Having cooldowns would completely ruin thieves and it would remove what makes them interesting.
When magg blows open the door, position yourself so that you hit both of the mobs at the start, and use your pistol whip, if possible position it so you hit the mobs and one of the turrets. When they’re dead move to the turrets if either is still up.
Then begin running to the slave driver. As you’re running, use your thieves guild ability. When the fight starts the mesmer should push him up against the wall. Then you should use your infiltrator’s strike and begin spamming pistol whip. Make sure you communicate beforehand as to when time warp will be used. If it’s being used at the beginning then go ahead and start spamming pistol whip. When it’s down then use your steal for some quick initiative, then activate haste and use a couple more pistol whips.
If you have 2 mesmers then set up ambush between the boss and the wall, so when the mesmer pushes the boss up against the wall it will trigger your ambush. Spam pistol whip, use steal for some quick initiative regen.
Afterwards switch to: Hide in shadows, Signet of shadows, shadow refuge, shadow step.
Start running as soon as the door is open. If it’s the event with Roshan then run past him, use infiltrator’s strike against the mobs guarding the door, and run past them. If it’s the other event then use infiltrator’s strike against one of the mobs, then use steal on the mobs guarding the door. Make sure you dodge any incoming attacks, because ifyou get caught at the door and fail to dodge then you could get downed instantly.
When you get into the room switch to dagger/dagger. When you’ve lost aggro, stand right behind where the mobs are going to spawn. When an alcoltye spawns then use a quick Cloak and dagger/backstab combo. This should kill it instantly, if not then use heartseeker. If any are left use steal and finish them off quickly and get the kitten out of dodge. Use shadow step to move to safe spot, either behind the cages in the back, or near where the flaming balls spawn after the alcolyte event.
When the next wave spawns, move in and quickly dispatch them. Again, CnD/backstab should drop them instantly. If a teammate goes down then drop shadow refuge on him and revive.
When the last alcolyte’s die off then loot the chest and move into position for the next part. Stand by the door, your mesmer should come up and drop a portal entrance, then blink through and drop a portal exit. As soon as the door opens run forward to grab a flame, then turn around and wait for the portal, go through the portal and open the door.
In the next part you may or may not have to destroy the controller.
If you don’t, then run into a brazier. When the mobs spawn use black powder as the mobs approach you, then use pistol whip to quickly drop them. You should end up not taking any damage from them.
If you do, then drop shadow refuge as people head out to their braziers. You can use thieves guild or you can save it. I personally choose to use it, as one of thieves will end up tanking the mob, and you’ll drop the controller in around 3 seconds.
Once that’s done, grab the chest and head through.
Make sure your utilities are: signet of malice, assassin’s signet, signet of agility, thieves guild.
It’s the same as the first boss, only a bit longer and a bit more avoiding needed. This is where pistol whip truly shines, as you don’t need to worry about dodging as much.
For example, when he uses his big aoe where he charges up for a bit and then lets out a large aoe that deals damage and burns, you can just use pistol whip a bit after he starts channeling and you’ll avoid the attack while doing damage, meanwhile the warrior is too busy dodging to do damage. Use haste after time warp has expired, use steal to gain some quick initiative when needed. Try to stay behind the boss since you’ll avoid the damage from his frontal AOE, and you’ll do more damage.
And remember, pistol whip > dodging. If you time it right then you should very rarely have to dodge his attacks with your dodge, you should evade them through pistol whip. It’s great when he uses his AOE knockdown attack and everyone but you is knocked down because you were channeling pistol whip when he uses it.
There seems to be an idea that a thief cannot match a warrior’s DPS. This idea is of course, completely wrong. Yet very few people seem to realize that a thief cannot only match a warrior’s damage, it can exceed it. I’m going to show you how, with the hopes that more people will realize the raw DPS of a thief.
This guide centers around one ability, and that’s pistol whip. Pistol whip is your 100 blades except it has a 0.75 s cooldown, and while you’re using it you avoid all incoming attacks.
Your gear should be full exotic or ascended, all berserkers. You should be using ruby orbs in your armor.
Traits:
Deadly arts: 25 points
*Sundering strikes. 40% chance on crit to apply vulnerability.
*Combined training. 5% more damage to dual weild abilities (pistol whip)
Critical strikes: 30 points
*Side strike. 7% more crit chance when hitting from behind or from the side.
*Combo critical chance. 5% more crit to dual wield abilities (pistol whip)
*Executioner. 20% more damage when the target is below 50% health.
Trickery: 15 points.
*Thrill of the crime. Steal gives you and your allies swiftness, fury, and might when you use steal.
Now that you’ve got your character set up, you’re ready to begin.
For utility abilities, you’ll start with: signet of malice, assassin’s signet, signet of agility, thieves guild.
For your last utility it depends on if you have 1 or 2 mesmers. If you have 2 then you should start out with ambush. If just one then start with haste.
Cloak and dagger is an attack, attacks make you leave stealth.
If you could go into stealth, hit someone with CnD from stealth and still be in stealth, it would be completely broken.
I just did an entire CoE run and didn’t even get ONE precursor. Clearly anet flagged my account for bad drops and permanent DR.
There’s nothing wrong with it.
If people are willing to pay for it, let em.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupted_Core
" Heavy Bag of Skritt Shinies
Chests within Honor of the Waves (explorable mode)
Chests within Fractals of the Mists "
Similarly make story mode completion for dungeons account wide as well.
Did AC on my ele but can’t open explorable AC on my thief, same for CoF and the opposite for other dungeons.
When you stack and he uses the ice just wait about a second or two and then dodge. It might take a few attempts to get the timing down, but once you do then there’s not much he can do when you stack up.
I find that things people complain are extremely difficult are fairly easy. Before CoE all I heard about it was that Alpha was really difficult. Eventually I get into CoE and……. he’s a complete joke.
I think the issue if that there’s so many players who complain about easy stuff so that if they add anything that’s actually difficult then they’ll cry nonstop
CM is a joke. I did story mode as soon as I hit 40 and was incredibly disappointed. After getting my kitten kicked in AC story I expected it to be just as hard if not harder. The first boss was kind of annoying, after that it was a complete joke.
Honestly I can see why people would pay for it.
I pugged it the other day and it was a nightmare. We had to have 2 people drop party and bring in a couple friends for simin because they didn’t have the necessary DPS.
Took probably 3/4 hours to complete and honestly I could have just paid 20 gold for completion and then made it back spamming path 1 CoF over 2 hours and save 1 hour total.
I found it to be a fun dungeon except for the very last part where you spam 2 to win.
I still found it enjoyable though that’s probably because I Just wanted to get it over with since arah story was all I needed for dungeon master.
I had a blast this morning, wiping a zerg of [TSYM] as well as various pugs in SoS borderlands. It was fun watching a group twice our size run out, get wiped, then come back and do it again.
Especially fun when they attempt portal bombs as well as all running out of the keep, I enjoyed watching 50+ people run out and group up to get aoed down.
This dead horse has been mercilessly beaten into the ground. It’s dead, stop beating it.
There’s simply no reason not to skip mobs. They have too much health and give terrible drops.
That’s it. Killing them eats up a lot of time with little reward.
All I know is whoever finds the first Final Rest in the game will never have to worry about gold ever again.
Because a level 80 is more useful than someone under level 80. Plain and simple. No matter what a sub 80 can do, a level 80 can do it better.
If you don’t like it then stop complaining about what others are doing with their groups, and form your own.
That’s a horrible idea.
You can easily do a dungeon on someone levels 35 to 79.
I leveled my thief off of nothing but explorable mode dungeons.
ITT: People list what guild they’re in.
You:
Tell someone to switch characters because “necros are useless”
Proceed to act immature and feel like you have to tell everyone what to do.
Then when the rest of the group is trying to discuss how to proceed, you ignore everyone, run into the room and try to use an exploit, only to get downed.
I would have kicked you myself.
From what I saw in your video, you acted immaturely proceeded to disregard everyone else and get yourself killed doing so. The kick was 100% deserved.

I agree, people who are willing to put in the time and effort to do fractals should be able to buy amulets with pristine relics.
10 badge of honor/ring is fair
So you should get 2 rings just for doing the JP in EB and one of the borderlands?
The simple fact of the matter is, people expect everything now, but there’s no J.G Wentworth in Guildwars 2.
You will not get an exotic drop for everything you do, accept that.
I’ve only gotten 2 rare drops in the past few days and out of those 2, I got 0 ectos (and that’s with a black lion salvage kit) but it’s no big deal.
Here’s 2 reasons you need to stop crying:
1. Gold is SO EASY to make in this game. There’s plenty of dungeons that can be pugged and are enough to keep you interested while making great money. Most dungeons will give you at least ~70 s per path, and that’s not counting the possibility for rares/exotics and cores/lodestones. You can run 2 paths of AC in 40 minutes and make 1.5 gold if you’re unlucky with drops. Oh and I can hear you crying already “waaah, I don’t want to run dungeons” well then no problem! You can farm in cursed shore/other orr areas and get great drops. And forget the rares, ever since the last patch tier 6 mats have had great drop rates in Orr.
The fact of the matter is, as long as you’re playing the game, and I mean REALLY Playing the game, not sitting in LA debating politics with some troll or alt+tabbed to the forums to post in the latest whine thread, you’re making gold and a pretty decent rate.
2. Gold isn’t that necessary in this game. What do you REALLY need in this game? You can get a full set of exotics within a couple weeks of hitting level 80 with relatively little effort. I got mine in about 3 weeks when I hit 80 and back then it was MUCH harder to get geared in exotics. Dungeons gave 20 tokens per path, there were much fewer sources of karma, crafting was pretty much the only way to go.
This isn’t an MMO where you need to spend hours and hours and hours grinding to save up enough orbs to +10 your gear so you’ll be able to be competitive in player versus player. You can easily get a set of exotics and you’re good to go. You don’t need to refine, you don’t need to buy some cash shop item to put sockets in your gear, you are good to go.
And then what’s left? Nothing but armor and weapon skins. And I hate to break it to you, but these are 2 things.
1. They are NON-ESSENTIAL. They don’t have better stats, they just look prettier. So you don’t have to have it so stop acting like you do.
2. Many are meant as LONG-TERM goals. They are meant to be DIFFICULT to obtain. They are not meant to obtained within a matter of days.
So, my next question to those who want drop rates increased, are you using MF? MF is essentially a tax on farming, and not using it puts you at the lower end of the distribution.
The people making bank on drops in GW2 are stacking MF as high as they can and must know where to farm, and how to farm. Making money in GW2 is not just a matter of quality of drops, it’s a matter of volume. The drops that are really worth something are Rares/Exotics and T6 Mats, hence the stacking of MF to increase the likelihood of getting one, but all the other crap adds up over time.
This is not to say that chest loot is not pretty underwhelming, or that some people seem to still be experiencing lack of drops from vets and champs (though I am not in that group), or that the drop tables don’t need some work, if only to increase the variety of prefixes and sigils/runes on rare drops.
On the other hand, my bank account is only 12G below W. Kitty’s. I have done exactly 3 dungeon runs since mid-October (no FotM). I have only one character with MF gear (which I almost never use). I have 4 80’s in exotics (absent 1 earring). Oh, and I have not used gems to get gold, nor do I care if anyone believes me.
I salvaged my entire MF set and sold all the runes I got back.
I stopped using MF a long time ago, I still get great drops.
MF is only worth it if you do a lot of open world stuff (mostly in cursed shore)
I love how every1 in SoR Trash talk about JQ, but u will still lose at the end of the week. U are so pro for winning NA coverage, but while u are in JQ BL u lose everything in the others BLs. So I don’t get the logic in ur actions
At least we can spell your and you.
but do you know how to multiply 12 by 12, without using a ti-83?
But do you know why kids love cinnamon toast crunch?
this is the wuvwuv subforum bro, not fractals of thy mists, think ur in the wrong section brah
This is the WvW subform, not wherever the hell you should go to post your idiotic dribble.
P.S There’s a shift button on your keyboard, try it sometime.
P.P.S No matter how much you spam the word “bro” and it’s variants, it doesn’t make you cool.

What’s my prize?
Give him a break, it’s just cold out.
I think people are just upset because they bandwagoned to the wrong server.
All those people who were sad because they joined SoS cause SoS was winning at the time are now kitten that JQ is winning.
Did this the other day and it was pretty bad, ended up soloing the last 30% on my ele.
Gathering: 5 minutes
Events: about 3-4 minutes totali’d love to know your secret for completing 5 events in 3 minutes and harvesting 20 resources in 5.
oh wait, there isn’t one.
but OP, mmos have always been about who can play the most wins. you’ll still get your amulet, but it will take longer and i don’t know why that bothers you. there has to be a balance between the people that play 30 min a night and the people that play 8h a day.
i also think this is more casual friendly for slowing it down so much and not having it in fractals, which take longer than the daily most of the time.
You can easily get 20 gatherings in 5 minutes, especially in Cursed Shore where you’ll often find 6 or more trees/ores next to each other, consider that each one gives you 3 gatherings and there you go.
There’s also plenty of multi stage events that are only a few minutes long.
You can do plinx and get credit for:
Defend plinx as he repairs his suit.
Defend plinx as he heads to the drop zone.
Take control of the drop zone.
Defend plinx as he heads to the nearby outpost
And if broodmother or arena is up, which will be the case 90% of the time, you can tag something there and get credit.
Alternatively if your server is in a lower tier for WvW you can probably just
Post to other servers borderlands.
Head to the little island at the south.
Kill the sentry there to take that spot, and then intercept the 2 dolyaks from the nearby supply camp.
That’s 3 events in like 2 minutes.
I find pistol whip does even more. Especially since you don’t have to dodge with it, so while the warrior is dodging to avoid the knockdown from the effigy, you’re doing damage to the effigy and evade the attack since you evade all attacks during pistol whip’s animation.
I don’t, I have no real use for gold anymore unless it’s to save for a legendary. All my characters have the best gear with the weapon/armor skins that I want.
Little over an hour on average.
It’s mostly luck. I’ve had some runs where we’d start with swamp, then do underwater, then do ascalon, and finish the run in 40 minutes. I’ve had some runs where we’d start with dredge, then do volcano, then do cliffside.
Yes, it should be implemented.
But it should also be optional, players who desire to do so should have the option to prevent others from inspecting their gear.
To be a bit more specific, it was the garrison in blue borderlands.
Just ran P3 CoF a couple of nights ago.
So I was in SoR borderlands last night, defending the garrison. For over an hour SoR just constantly kept assaulting the keep and we had to stay on defense, so for the entire hour I was getting the achievement for defending the keep against the attackers.
I noticed something strange though, the defense event didn’t give any credit towards my daily or monthly achievements.
Now defending everything else seems to give credit, from stonemist to supply camps. But none of these keep defense events counted towards my monthly or daily
Pretty funny moment in SoS borderlands this morning.
Group of SoS jumped off of the cliff and lost ~50% of their health from fall damage where we just aoed them for some easy kills.
Funniest part was the one guy standing at the top that didn’t jump, I like to think he was standing there saying “see I told you it was a bad idea to jump”
Ignore the part of the guide states what class you should be and play it with whatever class you want. Running Path 1 with a mixture of classes will only add a minute or two onto your run which wont matter unless youre grinding the dungeon. In which case id suggest ANET buff the dungeon to stop people grinding it.
Ok, first of all it’ll add more than 1 or 2 minutes.
Second of all, you should try reading the thread title.
which wont matter unless youre grinding the dungeon
Thread title:
“CoF Path FARMING beginners guide”
See that? FARMING, as in grinding the dungeon.
Well it kind of sucks that one one will ever be able to dethrone JQ until people get bored and inevitable quit. Some of those guilds that transferred to JQ should have dispersed to SoR, SoS, and BG for much more even match ups. The way this is going we will just have servers fighting for second place like SOS is doing right now. Anyway the weekend match up was awesome and I am looking forward to more of those in the future.
Why are people calling JQ’s recuitment unfair? Every server had the chance and ample warning to recruit people and guilds before transfers became paid. In fact, I saw numerous server recruitment posts from almost every server days before the big patch. Each server was responsible for their own recruitment of transfers. There is no Hogwarts Sorting Hat in this game.
P.S. Go Gryffindor!
It’s funny because SoS was also recruiting. As was SoR, BG, pretty much every single server had a recruitment thread.
That keep defense was pretty intense in SoR borderlands.
Obsidian Sanctum, I love the added element of other players
Thief if built right can do just as much DPS as a warrior, if not more. Pistol whip spam allows you to match their DPS without having to worry about dodging. Not to mention you have a 4 second self time warp.
Not to mention the added DPS from thieves guild.
The main advantage warriors is have is their buffs, if you have a group that’s like, 1 mes, 2 war, 2 thieves and the thieves are built right, they’ll have the highest DPS in that group.
(edited by Wasabi Kitty.8247)
Then…. don’t buy them?
" but it ruins the whole dungeon experience for everyone else"
Why? What prevents you from doing it your way?
Stop worrying about what others do and focus on yourself.
Thief can match warrior DPS but few thieves actually do it. Most will just auto attack with daggers or backstab. If you want to compete with warriors, pistol whip spam is the way to go.
Just form your own groups, I do so all the time and it usually works out.
