If you keep this thread on top they’ll have to reply eventually. Basically it’s just the Guild Halls idea brought a step further, what some of us were expecting when we bought this game. Let’s hope they have a surprise for us eventually. LS is nice but a strong Guild-related mechanic is lacking.

I don’t think it will happen. It looks like Anet decided that the 2 most important things that defined GW1 (GvG and Guild Halls) will not be a part of GW2.

The interview where the Anet person just evade the question like GvG is nothing important kinda hint at this. Let’s just hope I’m wrong.

Much Like the Dailies that we complete, The WvW weeklies are similar to the Season achievements and monthlies, but designed to be completed over the course of a matchup!

Some ideas:

150-200 player kills /week
(Dont really know how many kills you see in tiers below 6 per week, this may be unfair to lower tiers)
kill 75 dolyaks
escort 25 dolyaks
capture 15 keeps
capture stonemist 5 times
capture 35 towers
capture 50 sentries
capture 25 camps
Defend 25 towers
Defend 10 keeps
Defend stonemist 5 times
Refresh 50 siege engines
Flip 25 mercenary camps
Big Spender (250 badges, x karma)

well those are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone else think this might help get some more people in?

How about:
kill 7500 dolyaks
escort 2500 dolyaks
capture 1500 keeps
capture stonemist 500 times
capture 3500 towers
capture 5000 sentries

You play on the most stacked, siege using, blobbing, ppt matters most server in guild wars 2. Did you honestly think moving there would help you find fights?

None the less the OP is right, WvW isn’t what it used to be. In our tier it is mostly a battleground for guilds battles, most don’t care about PPT anymore. People that aren’t members of a WvW guild often have no tag to follow even on reset night. Also I will support anyone that makes a request for a GvG gamemode, no matter what server they play on.

The irony is that simply adding EOTM to the PPT rotation would bring life back to the game.

They are aware it would help… it’s been posted in the community thread over 6 months ago, they even replied and said it was a good idea.

Who knows why everything is taking so long, it’s like this game mode is completely off the radar for the devs.

Personally, I think if they do away with server-based WvW it will be the last nail in the coffin and the remaining dedicated WvW guilds will end up jumping ship.

As tenuous as it is (especially with the damage done by the megaserver implementation) a server still gives people a sense of identity and community — something fight for and defend in other words.

If it all gets divided up into arbitrary colors or alliances then all you will have is an extended version of Edge of the Mists.

I’m not against having a ladder for guilds, in fact that would be a great thing . . . but that would be GvG really and not WvW.

I don’t think so, all the serious guilds are waiting for it. Everyone has transferred so many times that nobody cares about the servers, it’s all virtual anyway. Specially now with Megaservers for PvE it doesn’t mean anything. We’re not proposing arbitrary colours like EOTM, that was very badly implemented. What we are proposing instead is a guild-based system of alliances. It could originate from regions of the PvE World thus populating the empty cities and creating an even stronger sense of community.

There is much potential in that idea, much more than with the current broken server system.

If ESO’s combat system would have been as good as Guild War’s I would have left a long time ago; It has a better WvW engine, better server system, more siege variety, a much bigger and more varied WvW map with beautiful interiors, npcs and optional quests.

However since gameplay is the foremost important feature of a game, I find myself forced to wait until Anet fix and update their WvW. I’m still getting stuck everywhere in the landscape, I can’t believe they haven’t fixed that bug yet.

You would think Anet would offer a GvG game mode so that their WvW wouldn’t be compared side to side with other MMOs but is seems they wish to offer the exact same WvW mode as the other games and nothing more.

Xilllix, that’s a complicated and expensive procedure. We have to keep the solution within certain feasible expectations I think.

They could start by just scraping the current Server based WvW and replacing it with a Guild based WvW that has a ladder system…

The real solution is more drastic. They have to get rid of Server based WvW and make it Guild based.

Guilds join an alliances, you have several version of each maps (we could call them campains 1-2-3-4 etc…) to account for the global WvW population. Specific guilds could join a specific campaign, and eventually change campaign for an amount of guild points if they wish. Along with this you have a Guild ranking/ladder system, Guild Halls and GvG maps (along with alternating GvG and WvW tournaments).

Then you have Guild Wars 2 as it should always have been.

Reward everyone for doing anything!

We already have server wide rewards. Everyone on the server gets the benefit of the buffs

I was actually thinking that there should be server wide punishment for everyone when you are losing at wvw. The worse you are losing and the higher your server population the more of a penalty it incurs. If the pve crowd wants the benefit of the wvw buffs they should have to do something to earn and maintain it.

I like where you are going with this… but erm… megaserver.

I said on this forum almost 2 years ago that GvG was the only thing that could keep Guild Wars 2 competitive mode going strong… Every day that pass without that most needed update for a fully supported GvG mode makes me more right, sadly, , as servers become more and more empty.

80% of the threads on this board are about people asking Anet to just “do something for WvW”… We certainly need some hope because things won’t get better for WvW as PvE content keeps getting released and some servers lose the little players they had.

This blind spot is the explanation for the Ruins of Power design in the Borderlands. With no framework for actual player vs player competition in WvW, they imported the competitive PvP model wholesale from sPvP. The result there speaks for itself.

You got it right there, the ruins. I forgot about it because it’s so useless to the gameplay.
It’s only a place you walk through when you need to travel the map in diagonal. Huge failed potential right there.

It’s merely a graphic update and if we were being honest here we would admit that the lake with the quaggans and weather node were actually more interesting than the ruins capping.

Weather and retexture with environmental differences, for example:
one flooded, but with destroyed bridges and blocked paths (new water paths)
one in snow, with storms and ice walls-bridges (at different areas)
one in current weather, with more trees and normal bridges

No, GvG should be much more than a version of PvP with more players. It requires it’s own map size and unique objectives proper to the play style.

It needs to be a complete new game mode, and considering the speed at which competitive multiplayer evolves in GW2 I wouldn’t expect it before 2017.

Once I went to spectate a GvG match between 2 very popular guilds… Obsidian Sanctum was full and people had to queue to get in.

I think that illustrates the failed potential right there, when a massive amount of player is trying to participate or watch a game mode that is MISSING from the game. It is my opinion that Anet dropped the ball on GvG and made a huge mistake underestimating it’s importance and the expectations of Guild Wars players.

Looks like July is a PvE focused month… If WvW ever get’s new maps it will probably be announced in Fall 2014 and released in Spring 2015, like they did for EOTM. It’s just me speculating of course but companies tend to follow the same deadlines.

Would there eventually be a way to adapt new PvE areas to WvW? Or synchronize the LS releases with more frequent WvW content updates?

It’d be cool if people could submit keep designs. Like a contest or something.

Would also be cool if we had a map editor like how starcraft has map editors

kitten right. I proposed this like 6 months ago when there was a suggestion forum. People were saying it’s too complicated and people would cheat. Yet, Valve, Epic Megagames, Bethesda, Id Software, Infinity Ward, they can all do it properly…

All they have to do is remove PPT on those maps and have the maps go thought a beta selection process. At some point, once the maps have proven to be glitch-free they could be added to the rotation, with the permission of the map makers.

Seems like the best thing to do when you can’t deliver content fast enough by yourself but want people to keep playing the game.

I never got to play the orbs meta sadly. I do remember an old interview where an Anet dev said they would bring them back in a different way.

Nothing was done, obviously. They are just letting WvW die slowly with its flawed mechanics.

Where did you hear about GW3? Or are these just rumours with no basis?

No they really bought 2 license of the unreal 3 engine. Google it.

Best is the combat engine for WvW, even with all it’s flaws, overdone nerfs and useless or slow skills. The combo fields is a nice mechanic that could be pushed further if Anet wasn’t scared to change things.

Which brings us to the worse of GW2, Anet is scared to change it. WvW is the same old since release, which in turn makes it so that most servers have empty borderland maps except in Tier 1-2-3.

But the very worse in GW2 is that they dismissed the most important element of Guild Wars 1, proper GvG.

Using daily timers is the most predictable and boring thing you could have done to GW2 bosses along with the merging of PvE servers which basically makes it impossible to do temple runs.

I am a little confused.
Do you mean that the skills are actually unresponsive or that they are simply slow (in casting time, aftercast, profectile speed etc.)?

All of it with staff mostly:
Casting times are too long
Speed of projectiles is too slow

And everything feels unresponsive when you try to chain them up really fast:
For example: often I will cast Air 3 (gust) – 5 (static field) then attune to water to cast a water field
Even through I pressed F3 (air) – 3 – 5 (static field) – F2 – 5 (healing rain) the static field will fail to register , it will not cast if I go too quickly (it will be interrupted).

It also happens with different combo. It may be a lag issue in WvW, but still, other classes I play do not have this problem because their skills are much more responsive.

Lightning Flash is a broken skill. It used to work better than it works now.

Now it ruberband back, doesnt work at all (stairs and bridges) or gets you stuck in the ground.

The elementalist has a much better design in Guild Wars 1. The current design is the result of the choice of having no dedicated healer class.

Am I the only one that finds the elementalist skill response way to slow for the gameplay speed WvW requires?

It seems every key you press has an inherent 300ms lag (on top of the main game lag) and there is also a limit to the amount of keys you can press in a second, and then when you chain them up very quickly the game reacts like 2 seconds later. Some keys have to be pressed a few times just to respond. Staff first attacks are so slow to hit a target, it literally takes 2-3 seconds from the moment you pressed the key if you add the game lag on top of it.

Then when you play as fast as the class permits you find yourself skill locked, waiting for attunements to recharge. You are forced to place all your skills into Arcana else the class is basically unplayable otherwise if you’re a fast attunement-swapping player.

Because the elementalist class has to press a million keys just to get anything done and stay alive I think it needs a buff to the speed casting time to be enjoyable. Specially since the critical damage nerfed ruinned our best trait line. Now everything is slow AND does way less damage then before.

I understand that is how the elementalist class was first imagined, but things didn’t feel this laggy in GW1.

Also, please fix lightning flash and gust, those 2 skills are totally broken.

When I bought the game I was looking very much forward to doing some GvG.
Now 18 months later I think I have to accept that GW2 will never be the game I was looking for when I made the purchase.

They will not reply to your thread, every time someone mentions GvG in an interview the dev. seem surprised, as if after GW1 we shouldn’t expect that sort of balanced gameplay anymore.

This thread deserve a bump: every day it happens, it’s annoying as hell.
How can you acknowledge a bug like this and not fix it for 7 months?

Could you imagine a game like Call of duty where people would have to type /sit in the middle of a battle because they always get stuck? Even Guild Wars 1 didn’t have bugs like this.

It’s not only WvW that is stagnant but it,s more noticable in WvW because there are only 3 maps to play and 2 of them feel super old. When was the last significant content update? February 4th? They didn’t even bother to release a single trap or fix the getting stuck in landscape bug in almost 6 months.

The vast majority of players on my friends list only want new WvW content. A PvE boss or farming event will not help the long term longevity of this game. Only better WvW or a GvG game mode can save this game in 1 year.

I don’t understand how Anet can let WvW in the current situation; where most servers are empty and the same unbalanced matchups are played for months as old content only gets older.

The previous system was much better but the truth is that no computer algorithm will find magic matchups… Somewhere down the line someone at Anet is going to have to take the decision to fix WvW.

ANet doesn’t know how to handle this game-mode correctly so instead they choose to neglect it.

All that needs to be done to fix WvW has been explained in details on the forum suggestion threads. Progress is terribly slow on the WvW side of things.

Anyway, since this is a matchup thread it will probably be deleted.

Ah well, at least there is a new PvE boss out soon.

Well I have to say this is above all else what WvW needs. New maps!

Truly if it takes that long to make a map then they really need to develope their tools a little. In fact I can’t believe they don’t have map making tools, why not just develope this to be a wvw specific map maker. Then alot less testing will be needed, the developer should instantly be able to see all the areas siege can be built and what is within their range, any potential glitching spots through wireframes not meeting etc.

Just my 2 cents…

I have trouble believing it takes one year development time for professionals to make a single map. With proper tools look at the expansions people have been able to do with Bethesda or Unreal engine games.

Look at the size and content on the GW2 PvE maps: a PvE area is the same size as a WvW map. There is about 50 of them, they all have many quests, yet GW2 didn’t take 50 years to make… The competitive aspect of it can’t justify why it would take 10 times more time to make a WvW map.

After thinking a bit about this thread I had to come back and comment again.
Over a year for a map? Seriously?! Aren’t you guys making profits?

Hire 5 people for WvW and put them in a room for 6 weeks. Then spend 1 month open beta testing and another month to fix the issues. Repeat the process every 4 months.

It’s an investment not and expense, if you care a bit about the long term longevity of this game… Just my opinion.

From what I understand condition damage bypass the toughness stat.

If weakness could do the same for berserker build (example: elementalist air 5 trait): Instead of adding a small % increase to damage it could make attacks pierce through the armor rating.

It could balance things or at the very least create a new counter-meta.

It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.

I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.

Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.

I think most people love EOTM, the fun fights we can have there and the beautiful design. The only problem with it is that it doesn’t affect the WvW score therefore doesn’t encourage defence.

As for your previous post, if it is that long to develop a new map I hope you’ve been working on something for many months already, I can’t really see people playing the same 2 WvW maps for another year…
