+1 to more distinct nights/days and also for the weather. Shouldn’t be overdone either ofc. but just a little more would be nice.
Race change make no sense, and will likely never happen. Story reasons, and whatnot. Race and profession just shouldn’t be changeable.
You seem to be confusing albino with just being white. Albinos lack picment in the body, meaning lack of color. This causes animals (and people) to be white skinned/furred, but not just that. An albino also have red eyes, as for some reason said lack of picment causes eyes to be red (think white bunny with red eyes = albino). Since I doubt that everyone also went down the red eyes road on their white charr, albino seems like an incorrect term. Being white alone does not equal albino.
Now, I can see the appeal to white fur. It stands out. It can be very pretty. It goes with everything. Personally I considered the dark fur with white markings, which is actually also semi popular. Ended up making a plain darkgrey, nearly black charr… another not too unique cause who doesn’t like.
As far as I know… the HoM pets should have identical stats to other pets. Like Black Moa is identical is to the Pink Moa and the Rainbow Jelly is identical to the Blue Jelly.
Checking wiki I see that Black Widow have less vitality than the jungle spider that it is othewise identical to. Same with White Raven and the normal Raven.
Dunno why they did that. And yeah it is a bit disapointing that Rainbow Jelly and Blue Jelly is actually… too identical. Then I don’t like the jellies eitherway.
From Final Fantasy IV:
http://nintendookie.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/cecil-harvey.pngDoes this mean ArenaNet copied Square Enix?
I don’t think you get the point.
The point being that “light” and “dark” greatswords are extremely common throughout fantasy games?
Yeah, I got that.
I was providing a counter-point. I’m glad you got my point.
Thing is those you linked look nothing alike to the GW or these MS swords at all. They have the light/dark theme and that is about it. No on here is claiming that is all to it, which you would know if you read through the topic and didn’t just post. The thing here is that not only the theme but the design is very very very closely resembling eachother, way beyond just having similar theme. So your counter-point doesn’t show anything, sorry.
Now on topic. They do indeed look awfully similar, but I will not pretend I know all the rules and how much/little something must look like something else to be a problem. Maybe Anet already know about these swords and well… if they don’t mind…
Townsclothing has nothing to do with class. The default set however have everything to do with race, as each race have their own default set.
There have been other sets in the gemstore – witch and madking costume at halloween. The wintersday furry thing. Those are limited to the time of those specific events and thus you cannot get them now. So if you have seen townsclothing on other players that are not in gemstore and are not one of the racial default sets, chances are it is one of those. Keep your eyes open for future events and you might see new townsclothes/costumes come.
zip Next to that did we never ever seen a female dwarve in gw1. zip
Quote Ogden Stonehealer: “How do you know you haven’t already met a female dwarf? Eh? Eh?”
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ogden_Stonehealer
I don’t believe dwarves will become playable, I think that turning them to stone, would be Anets way of saying: not gonna happen.
The pirat outfit, the bunny ears and those ARE townsclothing. Aka costumes that you can only use outside of battle, such as in towns. Only 3 of those in style section are infact armor skins.
The selection you see there is the selection there is, atm, aside from the set you are given by default.
You choose glow color in creation, just gotta turn of the lights (lightbulb icon at top). It is also possible in the makeover kit (I believe) but with the problem that you cannot turn of the light, so you cannot really see how it works.
Simple, only parts of the sylvari glows and only in a certain pattern. The belly and chest are not meant to glow, thats really it. It is not really a problem per see. Because it is intended.
My only regret is that nearly no medium armor let the back show, cause that is where the glow is.
That is the regular townclothing. Hit H and you are on heropanel, on top of that window there is two icons. One is for armor the other for townclothing. Hit towncloth icon and you if you are sylvari it will look like that.
To get other sets of townclothing you have to buy them in gemstore.
I love the norn dance. It suits them imo. Norn are not all that kitten, they like to drink and party and drink and tell tall tales (pun not intended). A somewhat foolish letting go of it all dance suits them.
An allright combination of nordic names, although to me it looks like 2 firstnames put together. Still like it.
I have a norn elementalist named Alva Gunnarsdottir.
Alva means something along elf or such (she is a very small norn) and Gunnarsdottir…. well Gunnar is a very old nordic name and my dads name in real life. So if the old naming conventions from times gone by was still in effect my name would indeed have been Gunnarsdatter, Icelandic sound more like ancient norse languages (the least changed nordic language) thus dottir.
I find it kinda odd that the toes can just disappear on some sets. I love my cultural t1 (light) set on my asura, but I just find it odd…. I mean… where did those special toes go?
Seems like a good, decent asura name. Short and simple as they are best, with double letter and consonant sound at the end which endicates it is a male. I approve
I have one little diabolic, cute necromancer named Zeefa.
Over 800 hours here. I certain enjoy the game, I enjoy it very much. Let haters be haters. They can have their opinion of the game and I can have mine.
Here is a thing though… just because you think something is bad, does not mean it really is inherently bad, and others may, rightfully, disagree with you.
I don’t do jump puzzles for the reward at the end, I do them because I find them fun!
Wish more people did that.
I do that too. Which also means there is some I wont do as they are too much trouble for me.
It might be more work than you think, as those skins would have to be reworked to fit other races aswell, so it isn’t just copypaste.
That said, I would like elite druid or the nonelite luxon set for my sylvari. Or variation thereof.
250 years, may well have gone extinct in the few places they lived. Maybe the sudden changes of their homes brought them down because they could not adapt. Maybe norn went out and killed them all. You know… sort of the same reasons some real world creatures went extinct.
Can say they are at least extinct in the parts of the world we know about. There could still be some in other areas, getting by.
However when it comes to different species say cats and dogs, that have not been known to happen ever. At least I would be shocked to find out of such thing.
Here’s one good example of a bird attempting to mate with a human: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A7uFSbRJ5w
Now, you could argue that that incident was an anomaly because the kakapo in question (“Sirocco”) was originally raised in captivity before being released into the wild and may have imprinted onto humans, but there have also been recorded instances of wild dolphins trying to initiate sexual contact with humans (both males AND females). I’m sure that if I did enough research, I’d turn up examples of other species who initiated sexual play with humans on their own accord too.
Of course, none of these encounters would ever lead to viable offspring, but it just goes to show that there ARE unusual sexual tastes among creatures other than humans.
Ok there are exceptions, there always is, but it still stands that MOST (hence not all) species would not attempt such things. And granted dogs will pretty much hump anything. Guess I stand somewhat corrected lol.
I will still say it is more unusual than common though.
emikochan.8504: It was the same in GW1, Michael Jackson dances, triggin or whatever it called, cheerleading moves etc. no one complained that it is not cannon to game lore. I can sort of see where you are going, but dances are not that big part of it all, so it doesn’t really matter.
@Caedmon.6798: it’s funny because charr actually got a maori dance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-lrE2JcO44
Sylvari also got an old traditional dance, look up bhangra.
I like all the dances though and I think it makes perfect sense to have them be racial. I would like the addition of more dances to each race though.
I guess it may be connected to being on a more populated server, but I have not experienced such problems… maybe I just don’t care as much.
The idea of “under-flow” have been suggested before, might be a good idea really. Not sure how it would work or anything, but I am certainly not against the idea.
PvE is pretty boring, especially if you don’t plan on doing any sort of pvp.
PvP is what is boring and that is regardless of everything. PvE is entertaining however.
People enjoy different things and have different ways to get to what they want. Not everyone thinks the same and thank goodness for that.
There is plenty to do in PvE that is fun and not grindy, perhaps you don’t enjoy those things, but they are there and others do enjoy them. Just like you may enjoy PvP and others don’t
I think it is…. almost… safe to say that at some point in the future we will see those areas too. Game just gotta live long enough or something. :P
Pets are the core mechanic of rangers, fighting without a pet is very… unrangerish. Without the pet you will also lack that damage as the ranger damage is set with the pet in mind.
And honestly… I don’t seem to have problems with my pet agroing stuff it shouldn’t.
WP are convenient and nice to have AND they fit lore, mounts don’t.
There already is a topic like this.
Anyways tengu is a must as playable. Kodan and skritt aint gonna happen.
This suggestion is even worse than the usual mount suggestions. You are suggesting the most lorebreaking mount possible for the game. Not only that, but all the problems with a flying mount… the jumping puzzles… just flying over the walls in WvW ruining the defending part of it all. I don’t even like WvW that much and I can see how bad an idea this is.
Ok maybe a bit harshly said. I don’t really mean to be rude, so sorry
The point is that it would be bad both lorewise and within certain mechanics. So although flying on a dragon seems very cool and all, this is not the game for it.
@Elspeth Tiriel: because Anet wants us to be the good guys, they want the good vs evil fight and they want US to be the good guys. It is a pretty basic choice of their game. If you want to be villain this is not the game.
@Onshidesigns: Gore has no place in this game, it just isn’t that kind of game. They should not change something so drastically after release when so many already have the game and enjoy it just the way it is. You might like gore, but others might hate it, as would I.
Maybe it could use more depth in the story and the characters, although imo there already is some depth, people just choose to not see it. Having depth is NOT the same as something dark though, things can get very dark and still lack depth and things can have loads of depth without getting dark.
@Amaethon: because sylvari are walking pieces of art with colorful skin, beautyful patterns and even bright glow at night. Why would you hide all that away? Personally I am sad that it is so difficult to find a good “skimpy” medium set for my sylvari.
With human I wouldn’t really care, they don’t have anything special to show off.
Norn got those awesome tatoos, which gives reason for some more revealing armor.
No. Class and race should stay and be unchangeable.
I have it. At least one… on my asura. Also got witch hat, wizard hat and devil horns.
No shirt… had no money at the time.
I agree. One thing that highlights how true this is sometimes is if you choose to side with the Durmand Priory and you get stuck under the leadership of that annoying woman. Seriously, she didn’t fit in with the game at all. I half expected her to be like “oh hi there risen corpse, how are you today?” during battle. I can't be the only one who was actually relieved when she died on claw island.
Absolutely and utterly disagree. I loved her, she is better than Tybalt imo.
There is no need to make things darker than they are. A little darkness here and there is fine and it is there. Just because war is around life does not stop. War does not change the weather. Horrible things can happen on sunny days.
I liked Kormir and I like Trahearne. I honestly do not see why so many hate either of them.
Maybe consider it this way. Most animals never mate with anything outside of their own species and in most cases not even within the different branches of the same species. It is not a choice or concious… they just… dont.
Actually they can and they do. Look at mules and ligers for two examples. Admittedly they’re usually found in captivity but it’s not some sort of forced breeding or artificial insemination – you pretty much put a male and a female of each species together and wait. (And in fact I think the first ligers in zoos were the result of keepers assuming that wouldn’t happen.) There’s also been sightings in the wild of a new species/sub-species which looks like it’s going to end up with the name golar bear – a cross between grizzlys and polar bears.
There are other examples too, but those are probably the best known.
I am well aware of ligers and mules. Lions and Tigers are however branches of the same species… the big cats. As are horses and donkeys (equine). If you look more carefully at what I said, I said that MOST animals don’t even breed withing BRANCHES of the same species. I indicated that it does happen. However when it comes to different species say cats and dogs, that have not been known to happen ever. At least I would be shocked to find out of such thing. Now norn and human could argueably be branches of the same kind of species… they look mostly the same. But as for charr, asura, sylvari those are as different as rodents, cats and… well… flowers.
Even though we call them races in game the more correct term would be species. Very different species, with the sylvari as different as flowers are to mammals. At least the other 4 “races” got mammal in common… but mammal is a pretty wide term too.
So anyways… these 5 “races” are all sentient and in that case it is highly possible that attraction goes away from what is the instinct and what is natural. So perhaps love is possible between the races. Actually I can’t see why not really… I was just making a suggestion on why it would not happen… or at least that it would be something quite rare.
And love or not… they cannot reproduce, as is stated by lore, so there wont be any half norn, half humans anywhere. Or half anything else.
To my understanding not every charr is sent to the fahrars. As any other culture they need farmers, workers etc. aswell as soldiers. And there can be ties to family. I believe there is a charrcub in the Citadel that is actually asking why he cannot just be a farmer or something like his mother (he is to train with the fahrar though.
Anyways majority of charr are raised mostly in the fahrars and have little connection to their parents after that. So that Rytlocks parents are fairly unknown is pretty standard anyway.
In true sylvari, do-not-discriminate fashion, I’m going to say Trehearne. He’s handsome and inspiring; everything about his story is attractive.
I will actually +1 on this.
Problem is that certain european countries have too small a playerbase to justify giving them a server of their own. Not to mention that some of us that are not in UK or Ireland prefer english speaking servers.
I would personally hate being in a Danish server. And it would be a shame if British, Scots and Irish people were out of the mix of people I could potentially meet.
There is nothing cheap or easy way out about the sylvari design. They didn’t design them just once, they did it twice because the first design was not satisfactory.
Sylvari imo is amaizing with their looks and many options.
I find their design just perfect and I adore them.
The only problem with this monthly is that the JP did not replace WvW. WvW need to go. Everything else have been changed in the monthly, some of them changed every month. It is time WvW gets out too.
If monthly is to make us try out various things why make us try this one thing every month when it only takes one monthly to find out if you care about WvW or not.
I honestly love all the other monthly bits. I loved all the changes.
Funny… I love the light sylvari armor options. I actually love all the sylvari armor.
They should not change something that is purely about taste.
Main reason I want TA armor on my sylvari ranger is infact that the headpiece is just that small thing on the face. I love that. Don’t want to cover my branches afterall so never get to show headgear otherwise, which is kind of a shame.
Mesmer to me is most connected to humans. The human queen is mesmer and because there is a kinda nobility feel about the mesmer and humans really are the only ones with a nobility mesmer is a human profession for me. That said mesmer would also be awesome for sylvari, less for asura imo, but still fits.
Guardian is also a humanesque profession mostly… being knightly and all.
Ranger works for all, although perhaps a bit less for asura who are more magically inclined.
Necromancer works beautyfully with asura and sylvari. Sylvari because rather than fear of death, it intriques them, they are curious and want to know how everything works. Asura have that Oola quote and somehow it just goes quite well with mad genious for me.
Elementalist is a kinda fits all. Charr is the only one where elementalist can be less looked well upon, what with the flame legion and all. Elementalist works beautyfully for everyone else though.
Warrior is another kinda fits all. Again with asura being the least likely warrior.
Thief is also a kinda fits all, cannot see it not fitting any of them although they may use it differently.
Engineer is a charr mostly profession. Simply because lorewise they invented the profession. It is based on charr tech more than asura tech and those 2 are vastly different. However it takes well to any other race too.
As RainbowSyrup asked… you have to state if it is light, medium or heavy. There are not only 3 tiers of cultural armor, it is also different armor classes.
I don’t have midnight ice or abyss either way though, I have midnight blue and midnight sky however.
There are no mounts in this game and that is a good thing. Mounts will not, should not happen in this game. They don’t belong here.
Easy to answer.
PvP is boring and unappealing to me and no matter how much WvW try to be for PvE’ers too and go under the PvE section of the game and in the PvE monthly it is NOT PvE and it is a pain in the kitten for some people.
You don’t have to enjoy every aspect of the game to log in. I enjoy PvE I enjoy playing all the racial stories, all the orders etc. I enjoy jumping puzzles and dynamic events and exploration.
I think everyone with a ranger agrees with this, cannot see why they wouldn’t.
Have to say in GW1 it didn’t matter as you had only one pet and had re-tame it all over if you wanted to change it.
I don’t change around my pets that much, but I still like to name them, and would very much appreciate the naming stuck to them.
You should define if you mean light, medium or heavy. They are very much not the same. Although I like my branches/hair better I find the medium ones nice. Also this might be heavily influenced by taste, and some might actually like what you don’t and vice versa.
But I fed my charr chokolate cakes. She is fine.
Gets tiresome to see these topics appear. Mounts have no place in GW2. It is not that I don’t understand the facination at all, but there are other games better suited to have mounts. I would play another if I got desperat for some mounting.
So yeah… once again. No.
