In 1v1, yes you are right. but with XvX fights, Kill shot is not that easily to avoid. You kneel down and everyone will have to start watch you or waste a dodge, that’s great for your team.

IMHO forcing the other team to watch you is probably less of a boon than just stunning them with an earthshaker

Here is the 2nd paragraph you conveniently missed:

Yes I would rather take F1 of other weapons, but just because it is not as good it does not mean it is useless. GS F1 however, is another story, it is complete crap, that in no situation would I ever find it useful.

Yes most of the time I would take earthshaker, but its not always better. Think about it. When you see a hammer warrior engage your teammate in mid range away, does earthshaker bothers you? Nope. Even if you get stunned, he might not focus you, you can break it out of it. If you see a rifle warrior kneel down at mid range aim at your direction, what do you do? You either dodge or get out of line of sight, even if he might not be aiming at you. This is also a form of CC.

Is mesmer worth deleting warrior?

bigmonto.4215

I have an 80 warrior and it has been alright as a class but not a very high skill cap and therefore is limited in its max potential. I have been beaten many times by Mesmer on almost every class so it seems like Mesmer is in a pretty good place. So my question is: should I delete my warrior and start over on a Mesmer?

Maybe if you increase your skill as a warrior, perhaps you won’t be beaten by a Mesmer.

Yes warrior has fewer button to press, but that doesn’t not make it less high of a skill cap. It just have a lower skill floor. And with certain build you can definitely kill most Mesmers easily.

Even if a Mesmer can kill a warrior easily (which is not the case) that doesn’t make it a good place. There is a reason why WvW and pve is full of warriors. They are actually great in all aspect of the game. Mesmer, other than that 1v1 PU, when are they really that good? Roaming? they have no mobility to speak of.

It is better to get another character slot than to delete a lvl 80 of any kind. It is $10? You get pay > $10 working with minimum wage job in less than 2 hours, do you lvl a 80 in 2 hours?

Kill shot arguably sucks because of how easy it is to avoid.

IMO I don’t think Power (main)/Precision/Toughness will give us much. It is probably better to mix knight with other set to achieve better result. Yes you will have less power compared with full power gear, but power is over rated.

I know these is math done to show that power weights more compare to precision and ferocity, but that doesn’t include the 20+ stacks of might that every warrior can self buff these days.

The one reason why I play GW2 and no other MMO is that with GW2 I can finally say I am done with the gear grind. This is different from other MMO where every month or 2 I’ll have to regrind the latest and greatest gear.

Of course I am not truly done because I might have alt build, or alt professions, but these are more or less optional.

So yeah please no more Vertical progression

1. GS for its 100b (skill 2) and AXE for auto attack.

2. Weapon smith and/or armor smith, but don’t bother until you want to craft ascended weapons. In general the cost of crafting is more than the cost of items on TP.

3. Nope, most people go for humans for the look. But go Asura if you don’t want to be targeted in pvp or wvw.

4. Nothing really all that important that you must do before lvl 80. At lvl 80, checkout temple events and world boss events.

5. Go through the personal story missions, these will guide you through various maps and then do the renown hearts around these maps, you will be set. Explore the entire map will get you extra stuff, but it is a long and tedious process that’s not really worth it unless your want legendary weapons. Even if you want it, I would say wait until 80.

Welcome to the game. Just enjoy the game, and try out different classes. It has been a great fun for me, and I hope you will enjoy it too.

Well, Hoelbrak is kinda like a cheap man’s option. The difference between Hoelbrak and Strength is roughly 5% to 6% damage depends on build. You won’t be that weak with it in PvE either. So potentially you can use the same set for both WvW and PvE provided you don’t have an a**** teammate.

Help: Mesmer can't kill Warrior

So I thought, well maybe they’re right, maybe there’s something I’m just not seeing, and I went out and bought zerker gear.

So now my crits hit harder, but there’s less of them, and I do have harder normal hits, but my bleeds do even less damage, so all-in-all switching to bezerker gear DID NOTHING!

…except cost me 40 gold.

Talk about trolling, that’s the best troll on the forums: “just buy zerker gear, and everything will be better”

…but the reality is, a warrior 2-shotting clones as fast as you can make them, while regening 800-1000 health-per-second, doesn’t care if you’re using rampagers or zerker gear, he just knows you’re a free kill.

I am sorry to hear that. But this is the result of asking in the profession balance sections. This is a section of b****, moaning and trolling. There is a reason why devs separated them out from the class forums. If you want a more productive answer ask it in a Warrior or Mesmer forums.

As a warrior I have asked the same questions about Mesmer in the warrior forum and had very good response.

But generally power warrior are at a disadvantage against Mesmer. I personally find much more difficult to fight against a conditional Mesmer than a power one. As a conditional shout warrior, I have no problem against a Mesmer though.

By the way we don’t generate 800 to 1000 health per sec, around 400 for HS and 140 for Adrenal health (only with full adren). We do a good armor however.

But if Anet is making it account bound, its going to ruin a lot of Role Player’s experience. Of course there is also the practical reasons of a gold + mat sink and crafting to level, all for what? a little convenience? Yeah I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Warrior or Guardian?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: bigmonto.4215

bigmonto.4215

To make a fair comment, guardian sword is better from a pvp perspective. Though the only real reason is that it teleports instead of leaps and it can destroy projectiles.

But a warriors shield is superior than the guardians and the warriors shield can reflect projectiles if traited.

But to be even fairer, DPS guardians drop like a rock while warriors don’t.

I don’t think you can really compare sword for guardian with warrior. They work differently, and will be better or worst based on situation.

In fact sword is one of the best weapon for a warrior. You gain mobility with the leap, massive condition damage if you are going that route, an aoe immobilize through burst, and a good size burst damage either if you use power build or condition build.

Warrior can pair sword with shield if you go for the power build, or with another sword if you go condition.

Guardian’s sword is normally paired with focus in pvp. I won’t say shield is not good, just that focus has a big burst that guardian’s sword lacks. Guardian also does not die easily even for DPS ones.

So all the living story patches doesn’t count? I know the story is not top notch, but it is pretty involving. Many living stories in the past introduce new dungeons, and solo/group events. A lot of these content are very challenging that does require coordination of many to complete. The only real difference between Wow is that these boss encounters doesn’t guarantee epic loot, which shouldn’t matter if you are only looking for challenge. Or are you? To say Anet didn’t add anything for pve group and/or solo content. I think you are being too demanding.

As for ascended gear, its optional. Weapons and trinkets gives you more bang of your buck. So just get those. But its just gear, nothing to do with story. Personally I would rather the gear not tie with these raid content. If it is, then I would said it is gear treadmill. Why? guess what everytime they introduce a new challenge, people expect a new tier of gear….. If Anet go with this route, I would just quit like I did on Wow.

Thinking back on Wow updates, each time its just raid content, little to no single player content. So I would say GW2 is 10000 times better in turns of grinding or treadmill already.

Also just a shout out to the devs. I think you guys are doing great. Keep at it.

Apothecary condition build?

in Warrior

bigmonto.4215

Well actually I have test both extensively. I finally prefer fast hand better. Couple of reasons.

1. With Krait rune + food, your bleed lasts a long time already. For example pin down lasts 21 sec with these 2. In fact it last too long that it’s kind of pointless as it almost always gets cleansed before it last the full duration.

2. 3 in discipline, allows much better adrenaline generation. This is partly due to fast hand + versatile rage. I find that I can use full f1 burst a lot more often. Since sword f1 is our no 1 damage burst. I actually do a lot more damage this way. Of course fast hand also gives me more might, and other utilities for the on-swap sigils.

Apothecary condition build?

Posted by: bigmonto.4215

bigmonto.4215

Actually you don’t need 2 in arms. I personally go with 0/0/5/6/3 with fast hands with krait rune. I don’t even bother with any stands. Generally I use “for great justice” and “shake it off”, the 3rd utility I would slot whatever depends on what I am doing. I have found it impossible to die. It is great in roaming + zerg. Due to 30% boon duration in Tactics, I usually have at least 10 to 20 stack on might on myself. So burning itself ticks around 800. At my full burst rotation, my condition easily ticks for around 4k+ per sec.

But I would agree if you are not doing shout heal, there is zero point in apothecary.

bigmonto.4215

Personally I would say for pvp of any type definitely go with full dire (actually I would go with dire + apothecary with shout heal).

1. at 40% crit, your actual chance of procing bleed from precise strike is 13.2% that’s 1 our of every 8 hits. This is pretty pointless.

2. If you have fast hands (you should), most of sigil should be on-swap, so on-crit sigil is a non-issue for you.

3. In terms of hybrid build, I have been a lot of test of these for pvp, they don’t work nearly as well as pure condition or pure power. If you really think you would go with this, then use some rabid pieces.

4. Higher vitality actually increase your chances to win a lot more, because you can stay in the fight much longer. And for a conditional build this is what you need for your condition to tick.

Conditions do way too much damage.

Hybrid builds?

bigmonto.4215

I did some testing alternating between hybrid as you suggested and my old pure condition based build. I had mix feeling about the hybrid. First I didn’t notice much difference in survivability which is good. However, in turns of damage I do notice that the build take a while to ramp up, it is difficult to burst people down at the start (I know this is not the design of the build.) I did hit a few 3k+ sword 3 which is really cool.

However It is very dependent on might boon. I notice that the might count usually goes between 20 to 10 in a cycle, so the damage output is not consistent through the fight. It is as I suspected much harder to take down a warrior or most tanky builds. Must of these builds probably won’t kill you though, but longer the fight, means the longer you are not capping the point. I believe the hard counter for this build is boon stripping, its something to watch out for.

Personally I don’t like the idea of it being free CI proc. There is no risk in it. The idea of CI is that it has to hit to proc. If we move CI to a free proc then CI will be nerf to poop. We really don’t want that.

Axe f1 is so much easier to hit than GS f1. Sure a good player can dodge it, but it is much harder at a short distance. In addition it does a lot more damage. If you have to keep the restriction of it being this hard to hit + single target, then GS F1 need to do more damage than axe f1 to justify. Fury is not really useful here. (our only 2 useful elite all give fury, so choice is not really an argument)

With that said I would like GS F1 to be more like mesmer’s GS 5. It can be slow, but it needs a bit of AOE to hit. I much prefer knock back than fury. GS can use a little bit of control affects, don’t argue with me on the specifics though. I really don’t know if it would be considered OPed.

But seriously no one uses GS f1 in pve either. It is generally less effective than if you choose berserker’s power. 3/4 cast time is also a damage lost. And in a group setting, you have good fury up time already between group buff and your own elite.

For pvp I tried Celestial ammy on the shout heal build (0/0/5/6/3) In theory it should work as the 30% boon duration allow it to stack might very well. At 20 might stacks, it has 2200+ power and 1300+ conditional damage with respectable crit and crit dam. But it never work quite as well as the pure conditional shout heal build.

Pure Condition builds are often hard countered by people with a consistent removal, or have a lot -condition duration%. I’ve ran settlers before, it feels pretty underwealming since your direct damage hits like wet tissue paper. If you meet a necro who has any sort of idea what he/she is doing you’re going to lose. Hybrid builds are split so you aren’t being negated entirely.

Really I haven’t face such a Necro. The problem with power based attacks is that it is countered by many things: toughness, protection, and of course healing, and requires 3 stats type to be effective. If you run hybrid, it means both your power based damage and condition based damage are weak, and you are weak. You are unlikely to burst them down with power, and your conditional dam doesn’t do much most of the time. You are also more likely to die. This is exactly what I found in my play experience.

Sure there might be a pure conditional cleanse counters, but hybrids are probably even easier to counter. A warrior or a guardian is by default a counter to a hybrid. The default high armor will nullify most of your power attacks, since your condition damage is weaker, they can afford some mistake in cleanse your conditions. Where as in a conditional counter, they pretty much have to cleanse condition at the right time, and at the right order otherwise they will be in a serious trouble as I can dish out a lot more conditions than they can cleanse most of the time.

It’s all good dude, you have your opinion and I have mine. I’m not going to deny that I like a burst skill in it’s current form just because it’s a challenge to land. It takes practice and patience, at first I didn’t really like it either, and now I do. Any skill that can give a boon like that in PvP (especially for that duration) is strong and it shouldn’t be easy to land. That’s my opinion.

Yes you can have your opinion. But your opinion is based on your experience in pve, and clearly this thread is for pvp, things work differently there. Practice and patience to land it is unfortunately not up to you in most cases, but up to your target in pvp. So telling us to play better is not going to solve it.

However, even if we do land it the reward is also extremely lackluster. The reason for this is that power based warrior in pvp is all about control burst. It is not about the constant up-time of fury but it being up at the right time. Signet of Rage already gives us a lot of fury, and allow as to control when it should be up. As a result it is always better to save the adrenaline for the F1 of a different weapon, as either a combo starter (mace, hammer, sword) or a finisher (Axe, Rifle)

I am not necessarily saying it should be easier to land or it should have a better reward. I am saying the probability to land and reward should match.

Another thing in pve, if you use GS you should have Berseker’s power, in this case you don’t even want to use GS’s F1 ever.

A few suggestions for the Guardian

in Profession Balance

Posted by: bigmonto.4215

bigmonto.4215

This is a bad idea.

Notice for every other profession, the passive movement is max at 25%. They are either a utility (signet) you have to slot or a trait you have to select. It is always a trade off. Putting it a virtue will make it available always, there is no trade off to that.

Guardian also don’t really need the speed boost. When I was playing guardian, I never felt slow. There are a lot of gap closer, swiftness boons. And if you really want the passive 25%, you can always get traveler or speed rune.

Soft CC on the other hand should be made available to Guardian a bit more, but probably not another virtue. I would say on a weapon or trait.

The good players recognize the opponent’s build and devise counter. They “Spam” button at the right time, and uses position and environment to his/her advantage. This is all part of the game.

Except that part never happens.

You don’t “counter” a build, at least not in fight. Your chances of success are set before the encounter even begins.

I wouldn’t say never. Good players know how each profession mechanics work. Good players know what another profession is capable of doing and adjust accordingly. This is where things like dodging and positioning are way more important than anything else. Knowing a professions skill CD is also very important as you know what that player is capable of doing. For example If I seen a warrior already use his stances I pretty much know he has no immunity’s for at most 60 seconds. Etc.

If I see him using a stance berserkers stance or stability. I don’t want to blow all my big stuff I wan’t to wait untill it goes away… then I want to unload. things like that. Thats how you counter builds.

Well said. A while ago I come to the forum and ask for advise on conditional Mesmers. While there are still difficult if I use a power build, but I fair much better now knowing what to look for.

Also while there is only a handful of utility skills to use in combat, but you can swap them out of combat. I have done that countless time in pvp games. I see engineer knockdown a lot, I slot stability before engage him and so on.

In combat, timing and positioning is also hugely important regardless of the build.

Just to add for shout-heal conditional build in pvp I found that you don’t need 2 in arm, I much prefer fast hand so 0/0/5/6/3. Since bleed already lasts very long from food + rune of krait, most would have cleanse it before it last that long. I suppose you can do 0/1/4/6/3 too. But 33% bleed on 6% crit is completely pointless IMO.

Pve I personally won’t recommend it unless you are just doing world solo stuff. You should be able to solo champion with it though. Pvp you would be extremely strong.

Use BL salvage kit for the exotics, as the salvaging rate IS better than with mystic/master salvage kits.

This is never confirm for Dark Matter. It is confirm that kits has no affect on ecto drop rate. So I would assume it does not matter with Dark Matter.

It is however not always a good idea to use BL salvage kit for exotics. Keep in mind BL salvage kits are around 60s each. You should only use it on ones with expensive runes. On exotics that cost less than 1g, your cost would almost double by using a BL salvage kit.

With high price runes, you can always resell the rune with around 60s to 70s profit which is about break even if you count cost of BL salvage kit. And if you sell the ectos, you will make a some profit.

Salvage exotics and sell everything. Sometimes you get 0 but sometimes you get 3 dark matters, on average I notice you get around a little less than 1 per exotic, but I always make a profit doing this.

I have read somewhere that black lion salvage kit is not going to get you more dark matter. It is just there to make sure you get the Rune so you can sell it for > cost.

Actually 1/4 of a sec is actually still hard to hit. If you don’t play pvp normally, then you should try it and see if how often your target stay at the same place for even 1/4 of a sec. Keep in mind this is a short range skill and your target could be dodging, blocking, leaping….. So instead of “very hard to dodge” I should have said “harder to dodge”.

I wasn’t even supporting the idea to have GS F1 move to a 1/4 sec, because at 1/4 it still SUCKS. I was just giving you an example how a small change that has no affect in pve will make it “better” in pvp.

Also we don’t have guaranteed condi cleanse from either Flurry and Combustive Shot. Combustive Shot fair better, but definitely not flurry. Either way it doesn’t justify GS F1 to be useless.

But what really gets me is that you are nitpicking on an issue that doesn’t even affect you and you don’t even seem to have the expertise or experience to see the issue. You are telling us to “just deal with it”. This thread is a suggestion on changes of GS f1 in sPvP. The whole purpose of the OP is to NOT “deal with it”. Can you deal with that?

We should do some duels.. Might change your mind on condi warrior viability XD

I am curious about that too. So far I haven’t find anything that really matches a shout -heal conditional build 1v1 in sPvP. If the other plays really well I only find that we can’t kill each other. There is a couple of instance where a conditional engineer got close due to the knock back, but after getting some stability, we are pretty evenly matched. I am curious what type of build you do? Or perhaps you might be a very good player.

It does get a bit boring after a while, so I change it to a power build from time to time.

Undervalued Runes for warriors

for my shout-heal conditional build I use Runes of Krait. I am not sure what else better? The 45% + bleed allow me to spec 0 in arms and get “fast hands”, the extra conditions on elite is great, especially for the poison. For 8 sec (longer with food) the enemy has to either blow a condition cleanse or suffer a 33% on healing, and with 1 sigil of doom, I have good coverage on poison. It actually save me from having to add 2nd sigil of doom, which I can use it for energy or leeching. I can’t think of other runes better for conditional builds.

I would like that.

Even in Street Fighter which the burst is loosely based on, you often can choose from 2 to 3 supers in fight.

The problem is internet these days you are being track no matter what you do. Even if you don’t share personal info you never know the amount of effort the person might go through to get you.

Personally I take these threats very seriously. A normal person don’t make these types of threats. At least I have never had these types of threats done to me anywhere online or off for years I have been online. I will take the proper action and follow through this issue to the end.

Even if he doesn’t take any violent actions. What if in the future, he make such threat to a kid who might be seriously frightened.

[sPvP]Arcing slice

It would be nice to have a burst skill that is incredibly difficult to dodge, but to me that isn’t balanced. It would basically be a guaranteed hit assuming that you aren’t blinded/blocked. In order to evade a 1/4 cast the other guy would need to be dodging before you even use AS. Pin Down was changed for this reason too. There has to be some counter play to the skill. You can move while using AS and a great deal of the AS’s that I land in PvP are on people that are kiting, sometimes even on players that move* behind me if I can line it back up quick enough.

Pin down is a long ranged skill that does long 3 sec of immobilize and 6 stacks of bleed. What does Arcing slice do? Its basically a self buff that does very little damage, heck even “for great justice” is better for that purpose. I mean Guardian can instant tele on you, where is the counter for that? To say that AS need a counter play is pretty ridicules. Even at 1/4 sec cast I would still prefer other weapon’s f1, but at least it is not totally useless.

Oh just so you know how powerful pin down is. My shout heal conditional warrior does 18k damage on pin down’s bleed alone. So yeah moving from 1/4 cast to 3/4 cast is reasonable. If AS does the same damage as eviscerate then sure I would agreed with you, but 2k?
