You know this listing is out of date right? Like way outta date. It’s not even well maintained … look at that yak’s bend GvG guild that loves there 0v0 – troll was even accepted. Your data is not supporting GvG’s. And I’m a supporter of them, preferably in a 10v10 format which anet is slowly incorporating.

So out of date, that some of those guilds on the list are gone and some of the other guilds on that list are made of the older GvGs that are gone.

None of them have any roster list on that site that I see.

how about changing condition damage so that armor and protection can mitigate that…conditions is 90% of the game but there is no way to stop it. same thing.

Out of curiosity, what does condition damage have to do with stability? Want to explain that so that it makes sense, or perhaps stop going off topic and make a thread elsewhere on your condi issue.

Either way, these are all opinions and people play for various reasons, obviously. Some want to win at all costs, some would rather not be poor sports.

Seems to me that any negative connotations that are arbitrarily conjured towards open field siege would be the definition of being a poor sport. Looking down on the idea of using all of ones tools to get the job done efficiently seems very un sportsman like indeed, unless there is some previously agreement between all members of all parties evolved.

Yeah sure just like looking at the guy who brings a gun to a knife fight as kind of being a kitten is poor sportsmanship! This will conclude my replies to you good sir.

You seem to misunderstand that siege was part of WvW long before you were. What is happening here, is your bringing a knife to a gun fight, then crying fowl at those who brought the gun.

Iv’e said it before, and ill say it again.
GWEN is not the only solution, it is the EASIEST solution. You can make a zerg with Rangers, Engies, Thieves and Guardians alone if you want. It would require the players in question to absolutely intimate and deeply experienced with their assigned profession, but it can be done.
Granted, now that most people have set up a GWEN char for their WvW purposes, nobody is going to spend time gearing out a non meta char for the sole purpose of proving that a non meta setup can actually work just as well.

So there is that.

Also, please do try use any GWEN char for roaming, i do not care how good you THINK you are, any average ranger, thief, mesmer or engineer will tear you apart in that setting. So to be fair, sure the remaining 4 professions may not have a slot in WvW ZERGING at this point, but they play another role, which can be just as valuable if not even more valuable depending on how effective you are at roaming and slapping yaks.

In theory, crazy comps of skilled and precise players can work against a poorly coordinated group but what you’re suggesting would most likely get busted by a competent meta force. After two years you kinda have to wonder why no one does it. There is “easy” and there is optimal.

That argument only meant something before recent skill changes. Even before, I saw those with the capacity to think outside the meta and lead instead of follow, defeat good meta players, because they are only practiced against the meta. You throw something new at them and they are not experienced with how to react to it.

That said, your argument as a whole applied before because of the crutch that GWEN set ups had on stability being over powered. Now that stability is no where near as strong as it used to be, neither is that tired old argument for it.

This is the situation in which you miss the point. Intelligent leader see that they just controlled you with area denial and controlled the flow of your group. Something that is impossible for you when you limit yourself by refusing to use siege for no logical reason.

Do you have proof of that, or are you implying that your opinion is actually fact? If your going to make statements of fact, it is probably wise to add a supporting argument at the very least, facts are always better.

Either way, what does that have to do with the topic? We have plenty of threads to cry about the lose of the stability crutch. Lets have that discussion there. This one is for the “red circles” as the OP put it. I am not entirely sure what that is meant to mean. Ground targeting skills are generally AoE and AoE thrives in WvW. As I see it, the are uses generally in a reasonably strategic manner. I do not care for necro staff marks personally, but that is just my opinion.

However i’ll leave some food for thought you can think about. Why does none of the top guilds run an engineer in their GvG comp? I guess they all suck and you must know some stuff about the class they don’t.

Did someone claim they all suck or that they know something those guilds don’t? Or is that am implication you are making yourself?

Do you have a list of all of the top GvG guilds? Do you have a list of their roster and profession list for each guild? How did you determine them to be top in your claim?

Most importantly, what does GvG have to do with anything? This is a WvW subforum. Your arguments should likely be moved to the GvG section of the forums.

No lag Deso BL during reset, had alot of fun 60vs60 fights. Just a +1 something is working post

We had no lad on BGBL last night or today at all either. I heard several of the varies channels on our TS, last night in particular, speaking ecstatically about how lag less it was.

It is unfortunate to see some other still suggesting that they are having problems. Odd at times how it is worse for one map or server then it is on another.

Might also have something to do with where players are, who their ISP, whether they are playing at peak times in their region, and how good or otherwise the servers are for that region.

Just because one region is lag free doesn’t mean the other will be, due to various factors.

Didn’t run into any major three ways tonight so can’t say I hit any major lag issues (one fight lagged a bit but nor game breaking), last night the lag was so bad I logged off my caster and got out my guard (for some reason Guardian’s skills seem to work better, might be a priority thing), who can survive not being able to cast anything.

I’d suggest playing an ele, necro or mes and then seeing whether you’re hitting lag, it’s a lot less noticable on guard or warrior (for me, anyway).

I do not play guardian or warrior, but I had almost no lag last night at all.

I have made a similar statement as to ISP and location earlier in the thread, so I completely agree with you. Ironically, I received to harsh replies at times with folks who I gather know little of actual internet functionality and network structures to have an actual informed opinion, but one thing is for sure, they all want to demand it is 100% the server, all the fault of the server, and only the server.

Siege being unable to move in open field is a disadvantage because it also can’t avoid being killed. No group we ever lost to was using open field siege when they won. Even using siege to defend bases is questionable compared to direct combat. Taking a tower against VR was near impossible, taking a tower from siege spammers merely took longer.

Bases? I gather that you meant keeps?

Are you suggesting using siege to defend a keep is a questionable? What server are you on?

Couldn’t agree more. It amazes me how much posters simply regurgitate what they read from some other random poster. One week someone uses the term “cancer” and then you can see who all of the sheeple hipsters are, because they use that word in every other post from then on. The see a “GWEN” thread that I wager most do not even fully understand, and they hipster spam it in every other post as well. It is unfortunate to see such limited ability to think for ones self and work outside the box.

The fact that in a game (games are supposed to be fun right?), players would rather flock into the herd, rather then think outside the box and have some fun. Some folks should try getting 40 or so guild mates on. Have a little fun and all play on the same profession. Every time you do this, use a different profession.

I will post the video here later, but I have some great footage of our thief night and engineer night (T1 server), in which our thief or engineer force was so baffling to the GWEN group guild forces, that they had no clue how to deal with the different game play and were destroyed repeatedly. My weekly video evidence of this, suggest to me that GWEN is over hyped to an irrational extent.

You aren’t playing to win if you use open field siege. It’s such a laughably bad tactic. If you’ve read more of Sirlin’s articles you would also have seen where he defines optimal play as being playing in a way that is least exploitable. Open field siege is insanely exploitable. Open field fighting gives you tons of room to move. Throwing down siege just takes that away from you because siege can’t move at all. You’re getting all of the disadvantages of defending a fort without any of the advantages.

I’ve done plenty of guild vs zerg in my time. The only thing easier to beat than a massive zerg is a massive zerg that sits on arrow carts and waits for you to kill them.

I find it unlikely that your smaller guild group, against a much larger zerg, that also has siege such as arrow carts, is nearly as successful are your suggesting. It strikes me as a over exaggeration, created to help your argument, but that’s just my opinion.

That aside, I see several comments about having more range to move in an open field. That is true. It is also true that siege can be avoided by moving out of its area or range. Which is precisely why it is utilized to herd a large force as well.

It isn’t universally hated by any means in my opinion. Personally, I am all for it. In my opinion, the folks that dislike it, have created their own idea on how to do things, and chose to speak negatively about out of the personal bias of their subjective opinion.

Correct. Open field is not universally hated. There are plenty of people who have no fighting skills and siege is the best way for them to enjoy the game.

I do find it interesting that several posters take the approach of exclaiming that someone is “have no fighting skills” or any other negative connotations some of you are suggesting, simply because they do something you do not agree with.

One would believe that if you had an intelligent argument, that you would articulate that over devolving to name calling and insults. By all means, share your views and opinions, but it strikes me as very counterintuitive to see folks sling negative connotation at others, for playing well within in confines of the game mode designs. And some folks wonder why devs limit their posting here, as much as possible, sheeesh.

Open field arrow carts and ballista are totally legit, but definitely I give no respect to groups that use them. Playing in arrow cart fire is zero fun.

If your a red name to me, your respect means nothing. Your loot bag, on the other hand, gave me Spark a few weeks ago. Wanna guess which one means something to me?

Mentality is what its all about, we recently switched in an engi , they work extremely well in our comp, even [Re] Rerolled used an engineer, don’t even bother with the meta.

More often then not the commander has a vision and thats how its gonna be, if he doesnt see an engi in that vision ,it may not happen.

There are also some solid commanders that lead on engineers. As well as mesmers, rangers, as well.

We have a GS in WvW extremely regularly. He also posts here with information about how to deal with troll.

I have PM him personally and had a respose from him every time. Simply because you have not encountered him personally, doesn’t mean he is not around. He has arrived especiallyon our map in an iinvisible state and resolved the issue.

That’s vastly incorrect. There has been more support and encouragement for this Dev than I’ve ever seen on the WvW forums. The posts that I see that are overly negative have been met with swift defense from other WvWers.

That being said, I want to say thank you to Stephen. The amount of solid communication you’ve shown in just these past few days has been what I’ve been yearning to see on the WvW section for quite literally years. ^u^

I think you misunderstand. MANY post have been deleted. But in my opinion, quit likely, not before he saw them.

It is kind of like the old analogy. If you walk pas the same homeless man on your way to work every single day. And every single day, you give that man a dollar. It is likely he will always think positively of you. Then, one fine day you walk past the man, rear back, and kick him in the groin as hard as you can. Although you have been positive to this man for 1000 days, and only negative once, that single negative action will have a infinitely greater impact then all of the positive ones.

You seem to be overlooking a simple fact in your analogy. Arena Net is business. Their interactions with the public need to be handled in a business-like manner. Regardless if their clients are “positive” towards them or not.

It would be comparable to you always treating the cashier well then one day going in and after a bad day biting their head off for whatever reason. You think that from that point forward that employee or the entire store has any right to treat you any less well than they did in the past? Of course you don’t, nor would you accept them doing so.

Point of case:

Dev joins thread recently. Makes an effort to solve problems and share the process with us.

Posters make post negatively criticizing their level of professionalism, in a completely off topic manner, in a thread created to show appreciation.

I am so happy to see so much resistance to using Turret builds in the Engineer community. Decap engis are an abomination.

All in all it seems like a good build, but running a stun-break is absolutely essential in SPvP

As I understand it, the “community” has never been a strong proponent for turrets as the meta. That is a newbie driven issue.

I have been PINed up on various border lands for JQ for the past 6 hours, and I call shenanigans.

You could at least make the effort to show some evidence.

Hopefully OP hopped on JQ and saw we also had queues on all maps. This was a direct result of Anet tweaking the map cap down. It was rather annoying because we only had 2 active commanders working 2 maps, 1 had a map blob, the other had only 20’ish. This was around 6pm pst.

How many commanders did you have, how many map blobs were you running?

Between 2 guilds, we had exactly 55 TC on JQBL at 10PM EST lastnight. Can you confirm on the JQBL side, what your numbers were at that time?

I was seeing right around 70 of you in JQBL Garrison when we had attacked.

BG, can you also confirm your numbers at that time?

Can you prove that you had exactly 55? For that matter, can anyone?

I cannot speak for TCBL because I was PINed on BGBL at that time.

I Hopped over to JQBL to defend Garri. You sir, are being dishonest in your claims.

And? Since when did players try to use turrets in WvW?

What path of logic are you using here? Does this mean guardians are bad because someone doesn’t like signets? Your using a utility set that no one uses in WvW as a reason to define the profession as bad for WvW?

2)Gadgets: most of them are bad or selfish skills

Sword or Mace + Shield is selfish so don’t play guardians and warrior right?

Or by the opposing definition, Healing turret cleanses conditions in an AoE and allow several water firld blast

3)Rifle: most skills are single target. Been a projectile makes it even worse

It would probably be best if you actually played or even understood the profession. Grenades say hi!

4) Pistol: same problem as the rifle. Been condi based makes it even worse on a zerg that runs -40% food and has some players with hoelbrak/melandru. Aoe cleansing is way too strong too.

How bad are you? That your first thought is that people use this? Do you use this?

5) Shield: Selfish weapon.

Right. 2 AoE interrupts, and might stacking or healing blast finishers are selfish.

6)Tool kit: great in spvp and small scale but for a zerg it is lackluster. The autoatk is bad, #2 is small and does low dmg, #3 is single target, #5 is single target. The only good thing left is the block, but in a zerg if you are just blocking you are not doing much.

Who suggested the tool kit was meta?
Your ability to pick random skills, that no one suggested were meta, and define a bad understanding of them, is magical

7)Elixirs: Elixir U is pure RNG. Elixir C not as good as purging flames or shouts. Elixir R revive is not as good as a war banner.

So because you feel the various elixirs are not what you feel as equals they are bad?

Elixir R doesn’t take up an elite slot, it has double the range, removes multiple conditions off of 5 players, places a light fields, as well as refilling endurance on ones self and cleanses immobilize.

8) Flame thrower: die for retal. Not great dmg.

Maybe you would die from retal. Skilled or intelligent players do not spam AoE AA.

9) Elixir gun: no offensive pressure. The healing field is a light field. #3 is harder to use than a shout or warhorn.

Odd. I have trouble grasping why you would take a support utility that can remove 25 conditions, 2500+ AoE heal, AoE damage and so on, as weak offensive pressure.

That makes about as much sense as ridiculing the moon for not emitting enough sunlight.

10) Elites: Mortar is useless. Elixir X ir full RNG. Supply crate is ok for the stun but the turrets die too fast in a zerg.

So a bad elite locks a profession out of the meta? Well Glyph of Elementals locks Elementalist out. Rampage is garbage, warriors are out………………………………

I’m not going to argue technical trade-offs in a thread like this. We fixed a bug in our game scheduler and as a result we’ve found another bug in WvW that was previously hidden. It’s as simple as that.

Ignore the trolls who are trying to tell you what’s wrong with out having ever seen the code or equipment. The rest of us appreciate your efforts, greatly

Our ISP’s are not to blame because the lag is experienced globally and is not localised. Everyone is experiencing the same lag / rubber band spikes regardless of their ISP.

I think you may have misunderstood.

Before the current situation started, they was more lag in EU then in china or NA. That was what he was referring to. Thus the current issue is compounded with the previous issue in the EU region.

I am just curious how our server can have a queue, yet be so grossly outnumbered at the same time on EBG. There are no guilds doing roams, no groups not accounted for, yet easily 2-1 outnumbered. How does population balancing work (or fail to)

Perhaps someone is off doing something your unaware of, or else it is a fake queue, which happens sometimes. Which means others can still get into the map, it simply says there is a queue when there isn’t.

Hey Stephen, given the issue, is there a reason one player may have significantly less lag over another? Or why a certain group of players would have less lag issues then others?

I have been seeing complaints for 2 weeks or so now, but it has not effected any of the 5 players in my home, even with all of us on at the same time. Any idea why some would be more effected then others?

We did start getting some with last nights reset, even then it seemed that we were getting less then others were complaining about?

Your thoughts?

My working hypothesis is that there is a bug in the “catch up” code.

Are you in Edge of the Mists? There’s no lag at all in there regardless of fight size. Lag seems to be a borderlands issue. Also what tier do you play in?

No, I have spent a chunk of my time either pinned as a commander or following one in my guild group on mainly one of the borderlands and occasionally EB on a T1 server.

I would see map chat complain, ask my TS channel and they would all say they are fine. Last night I would not have lag when other in my TS mentioned it and then they didn’t have it when I did. Those type of occurrences are why I posed the question.

Yup, it’s bad for EU tier 1 Eternal Battlegrounds right now. The cool thing I just discovered is another perf counter that correlates better with the lag than total CPU. Y’all in a big fight right now? I guess if you are you’re not posting to the forums.

Giving us player update is not solution at all! Will Arena net fix the lag? Yes? or No?

Super laggy today. I also have noticed massive rubber-banding/lag spikes since the airplane update…

The lag has been a problem ever since the stability change.

yes ever since the stability patch… but that doesn’t mean stability is causing it but since that monday patch 2 weeks ago…

Actually the lag has been a problem for over a year (release?) with every patch, even the ones designed to fix it, making it progressively worse. Many members of my guild could “spidey sense” when another guild was around by the loss in frame rate and a slowing effect (lag) on their connection. Since the stability patch however it has gotten much much worse and now DC’d are becoming the norm and not the exception. Our entire guild of 20ish had at least one player DC every 10 minutes on reset, and one very unlucky fellow DC’d 4 times and rage quit.

I often leave the mini out and you get the “too many players in an area so we are putting your mini away” warning that allows one to know others are getting close.

Honestly, It seems to me the problem is that you arguing out of a complete lack of knowledge. You made it quite clear you have no experience playing one. Yet you actually believe you can argue against the virtues of it.

1. Engineer is far too slow. You need leaps to get into the enemy and leaps to get out, else bombing them will be far too obvious and will just result into the enemy melee leaping in your backline, killing 2 and getting out before you could even reach them.

Too slow? You mean with the 1500 range leap of Super Speed + Rocket Boots? Unlimited swiftness with speedy kits? Acid bomb leap?

I am not even sure you have even seen an engineer at this point.

2. You don’t have banners.

Neither does any other profession besides warrior. Guess in your argument it is go warrior or go home.

Yeah. Thanks for pointing that out. I do not think a single engineer like Boom stick, Coglin, or the other engineers commanding have ever thought of this in the entire history of the game.

5. If you get immobilized mid-slick shoes you’re wasting a 36 seconds cd since you have no condi removal.

6. If you get caught by immob you’re practically dead.

Any other class isn’t? You really think engineer is less equipped to get out then any other profession?

7. You have far lower armor than a warrior, so you gotta compensate for that defensive loss, meaning you will have to reduce your damage. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if your damage is kitten.

AH. Perfect. Glad you finally admit you haven’t a clue what our armor and damage is. I run a 2/0/6/4/2 build that has 3400 armore 26000 hp. 1400 AoE auto attack damage. on bomb kit, AoE blind (and smoke field) on bomb kit. 2 water fields. Fire fields. 5 blast finishers.

Overall the build is very selfish and has no team support. It might work vs blobs, but that’s possible on arguably any class.

I’m very aware of how slick shoes work and also very aware of how things in theory can sound amazing, but just don’t work because people aren’t that dumb to fall for it.

p.s. I’m not trying to get you off your idea. If you think it can work, go for it man. I actually would love to see the gameplay of it as it’s probably pretty fun to watch.

So 2 AoE water fields, and AoE condition removal Are selfish? AoE might stacking is selfish? AoE debuffs, such as invulnerability are selfish?

How many hours in WvW do you have on your engineer?

No, not really. What it strikes me as, is that every time someone strikes a reasonable counter argument, you change your requirements for the situation of the argument.

Are you assuming they’re running through all the little puddles or are you saying running over one puddle removes five stacks?

That is not how it works. you can use rocket boots or super speed + slick shoes and put the puddle at their feet. Slick shoes can optimally remove 3 stacks of stability per player, per seconds, for 3 seconds.

In that case it can be interesting to have one engi on the gank squad assuming they can get out without relying on the 25% health trait proc otherwise they will easily be picked off by the enemy gank squad. It won’t be useful to have 5, other guilds have tried engis in the past eager to make use of magnetic pull but no they wont have a place on the frontline if this is all the argument for them is. One slick shoes on top of the guard lines and statics is enough.

Why do you think they would need to be on the tank squad?

Do you seriously think no one has played rangers, mesmers, and engineers in WvW for the past 2-3 years?

There have been well known front line commanders of all of those professions in the past as well.

The inability to think outside the box, on these forums, is sometimes baffling to me.

I do not believe BlackDevil. is actually aware of how SS functions. Thus, I do not believe he fully comprehends how much stability it can strip.

Considering that they have specified that on an individual level, since release, that WvW is not only impossible to balance (that’s just common sense in my opinion) and is never intended to be, this isn’t even a valid argument.

I think we can all agree that the devs dont even pay attention to this sub forum. Add in the fact that our wvw liason is MIA and doesnt even appear to play the game any more, a post here is probably a lost cause.

I do not agree with that. I believe they pay attention to it. I simply believe because of snide comments of this nature, they simply go out of their way to avoid posting in it.

I started a thread in the bug forum that we should do our best to bump and keep at the top until they at least admit that there is an issue and give us some feedback.

Admit there is an issue? Where have you been? Living under a rock? they have made multiple post on the matter in the recent weeks. They have posted detailed feed back, comments about the issue, as well as asking for some very specific feedback, based on a few questions the posed, to aid with resolving the issue.

Nice? No, not to me. That would seem counter intuitive. If folks on a server want damage done to the enemy, then as far as I am concerned, they should log in and engage them. Rather then try to lobby for generic and lazy artificial tactics of this nature, in my opinion.

Toss Elixir S adds 5s stealth.

Can 5 engineers stack 25s stealth?

At one point there was a cap on stealth duration stacks, I am not sure if they changes that or not. I want to say yes, you can stack it that high.

As to the poster trolling you. I recommend simply reporting there post. I have no idea why anyone would chose to pose implicative, spiteful questions and comments instead of answering your simple question.

I am not a programmer so I can’t offer a solution. I can let them know that we were experiencing the issue last night though. Sorry man, best you’re gonna get from a lot of people. You want server experts? Call Google.

What does anything you just said, have to do with what they are asking? Clearly you haven’t even bothered looking into it.

If you cannot even answer questions such as where you live, what time it occurred, and what map you were on, then that would explain a lot. I have no idea why you feel only a programmer can answer the basics.

The topic was, of course, communication. So, rest easy, folks. The communication issue has been cured.

Regularly aggressive or snide comments of this nature, are in my opinion, exactly why they avoid posting whenever possible. They are berated for not posting, then berated when they do.

What keeps me going are unoriginal players who use words like “cancer” when they lose a fight. Or turret engineer newbies (most of the engineers) who are cursing and baffled as I destroy them with ease. Such an overestimated build they are.

Actually I do not run a condition spec at all. As well I rarely duel. Generally I am PINed up or running with my guild group.

I would certainly be willing to duel you if that is what your getting at. I have a personal arena, and there is no food in PvP. If you feel a lack of food would assist you.

I did I vest my time to level chef in crafting to 400 though. I am unclear as to why you wish to devalue thay from the folks who invested the time.

If you like, hit me up in game saterday evening. I can give you some pointers on defeating the condition builds. I can show you it is no more difficult to deal with then power build. You simply have to play them differently. I am certain your capable of learning.

Oh an that skill you’re talking about makes them tiny. That wasn’t the case.

It often does not display the form change. I assume it is an occasional bug. Which is why I mentioned it. So you may not want to be to quick to dismiss it. Just a thought.

There is a trait that when you are hit under 25% health pops elixir s that makes engineers invulnerable. Either way, in my opinion, you shouldn’t claim hacking without certainty. As false positives makes dealing with those who are certainly hacking, to be dealt with.

Seems like a tough nut to crack. It seems there is an equally negative draw back to all of the suggestions. I thought I had some ideas myself. But every idea I can come up with, has its draw backs as well.

Both types of food need to go.
Stop arguing which side is broken, both are broken.
Also salad that gives 10% damage while movement need to be removed too.

Make food like a bonus thing, not a must have thing that hugely affect the outcome.
It’s like w/o the food, the chance of dueling and losing to dire perplex thief, condition engi, terromancer is increased by 70% or something because ALL of them are using 40% condition duration food.

You are confusing your subjective opinion with that of objective fact my friend. It may be your opinion that you do not like them, but they do not need to do anything. In my opinion, they are fine, and i see no real argument that causes me to feel a change is needed.
