Actually this game is like communism. Everyone have everything and everyone are equal
And mainly everyone are HAPPY!
I told someone in another thread that videogames are the only economies that can work under the Austrian model. Funny that I’m now saying videogames are the only economies that can flourish on communist ideas. Yet both theories are completely worthless in the real world.

Judging the last month’s worth of sour grapes, I’d say it’s been “that time of the month” around here since March 26th.
I see what you did there
always bring a towel.
(( did I go to far on that one? /snicker ))
I would suggest a dark towel.
As a PVE engineer:
- elixir toss radius increase by 10%
- elixir toss cooldowns reduced by 15%
- HGH reworked, now makes drinking an elixir affect the entire party (as if it were a shout)
- turrets scale with toughness/vitality of owner
I want Engineers to have the same party support potential as a Guardian.

First off, GW2 doesn’t install itself on subpar pcs. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up for debate.
Second, what GPU is your significant other using, since the type says more than the meaningless dedicated ram (which is often used to confuse customers)

Theres been a few topics on this but no response, and I felt the need to clarify the problem.
In certain cases in which the right mouse button is being held, GW2 will stop reading the RMB as held down and thus stop mouselooking. As you can imagine, this is basically gamebreaking for any content besides the easiest of PvE.
I know exactly what you’re talking about, I’ve had that problem too and it is extremely annoying up to the point where playing become nigh impossible.
This is NOT a hardware issue. Multiple people have shown this problem occuring on multiple mice. Switch logging on my mouse shows that the mouse isn’t actually losing button contact when the GW2 client stops reading it, and I never get this problem with any other software.
This is apparently occurring often with Logitech and Razer mice.
Its been over half a year with no response on this issue. Even just a heads up would be good at this point, if no actual hotfix is forthcoming.
I shouted that too, several times in several threads. Truth is, it IS a hardware issue. I rebound right mouse to a macro key on my Naga, and works pristine. Even in Google Maps my right mouse does weird things.

I read a nice article about how statistically, people who make this threat, usually are still in the game after months. People claiming “their entire guild left” are statistically in very active guilds. Some companies even make drinking games out of forum threads, where the devs browse 3 month old topics and drink for every “leaving player” who’s still active.

You should have known that. In GW2 you try to get the awesome looking weapon, not the mundane +1 weapon. Stats are a less important thing in this game.
The reasoning is pretty simple, because it puts of a lot of the paying customers. People with lots of disposable income tend to have far less time to play the game. Gear grind tends to put off people with less time, yet those same people would spend a lot of real cash on cool looking weapons. They would hate to pay for superior stats though.
It’s like spray-painting your car instead of buying a faster one, or buying an oldtimer. Given the pretty low speed limit of 120km/h, most people don’t care about fast cars, but do care about pretty/cool cars.

very bold claim – how can one determine what is the opinion of the majority without knowing the opinion nearly everyone
… the dropping sales of the game speaks for itself…
another bold claim – how can one know that, without being involved in those sales

I just get mad reading some of them, with threats like “If you don’t do as I will Anet, I will quit the game and take all my friends with me!”. Really guys, really?…
There’s no need to get mad. This is no different than what you see in RL. I have two friends who work in retail as managers. It usually turns out that every person who is demanding something is a lawyer who will sue if s/he doesn’t get what s/he wants! What are the odds?
Anyway, ANet knows that most of such threats are empty. People who are going to leave the game just leave the game. The forum-goers who threaten to leave are either not going to leave, or will come back soon enough.
I read a nice article about how statistically, people who make this threat, usually are still in the game after months. I don’t expect anything from anet, because of what olba said, it’s not an event that matters to americans or other countries. Maybe anet could make some stuff orange for a day, like orange flags and such.
Would love that, or an orange guild cape thing in the gem store.
I don’t care much about Thanksgiving either, I don’t think a.net should only focus on the american market. They’re not the only people in the world. Furhtermore, while I love the christian inspired events, I would love more cross-cultural things like passover and sugarparty. Anything to take away the american-christian bias that seems to permeate videogames. Canthan newyear and st. pats are good examples for that.

First step towards fixing a problem is admitting that there is one. You can close your eyes, block your eyes, and refuse to see the problem, but the dropping sales of the game speaks for itself. Any game company that aims for the top, like Arenanet, would take feedback, rather than thinking that ‘most do’ based on personal preference.
Let’s say I do not share your opinion.
The problem isn’t the lack of trinity system. Rather, what was done to replace it, and if it’s working or not. Right now most dungeon fights – especially in the lower level ones – are just zerg fests. It’s chaotic, unstructured, one guy falls, he’s just revived, or runs back after reviving himself.
5-man dungeons don’t even make a sixling let alone they could be zergfests.
What the game needs right now isn’t simply an improvement on its strong points. And you’re pathetically naive if you think that will lead this game to be the leading mmo on the rpg.
I’m very happy with a GW2 that improves on it’s strong points to become a very strong MMO on its own, instead of being a crown pretender like most other WoW-copies are. Becoming a WoW-clone would be disastrous.
GW1 was very strong because it was unique and always kept improving on the strong points. Sure it was a niche game, and probably GW2 will become a niche game (albeit larger than GW1). One doesn’t have to beat WoW to be a top game …

So in an attempt to bring this conversation back on track, the crux of my argument is that while the in-game ability to to earn gold in gw2 has remained flat, or slightly increased, the total gold supply in the game has drastically increased thanks mostly to gem->gold conversions. As a result, price is pressured upwards and scarce items become more difficult to attain by people not willing to make gem->gold conversions or spend their game time flipping items on the TP.
Gold isn’t put into the economy by gems> gold but rather sinked. Every gem/gold transaction destroys 30% of the gold involved!!! This a very important point you don’t seem to get. As long as you don’t acknowledge that, further discussion is moot.
You are so set on this Austrian idée-fixe of an increase money supply, that you’re clinging to the one thing that could potentially create loads of money, while disregarding all evidence to the contrary. To your defense though, videogames are probably the only economies where Austrian ideas hold merit.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
Thinly veiled attempt at a “bring back trinity” thread.
You may not like the lack of trinity, but most do. Furthermore, what you see as an undenyable problem, I see as an opinion on your end. The facts are that looking for group is easier in this game than any other game, teamwork matters and personal skill is what gets you through a dungeon.
Sure for unskilled players that leads to a chaotic unstructured environment. To skilled teams, that leads to a much higher skill cap, because we’re not limited by arbitrary concepts like “trinity”.
The strong points of this game will be improved upon, I’m fairly sure of that. Bringing back the trinity will destroy this game, I don’t think it’s even on the boards in Bellevue.

30th of April the queen of Holland is resigning in favour of her son. My partner is dutch and I’d love to show her a token of appreciation in game.
I think it’s a pretty major event, at the very least on par with St Patrick’s Day, International Pirates Day and Thanksgiving, which all have in game events in GW1.
Not asking for a full event chain, but a few lines by an NPC would be nice, if someone managed to squeeze it in on such short notice. Maybe a reboot of the Mad King dungeon but changed a little bit for Willem-Alexander.

This is what I would have suggested. It’s the most logical way.
Often, I give people the serial number on a postcard, and the “unpacking” is actually figuring out where it fits. Wii points? Steam game? Gametime? gems? For some dedicated gamers it takes a while before they find their new shiny.

I’d say that the best “bundle” of goods to compare inflation to is the cost of equipping a char with L80 exotics (or masterwork or rare or some mix in between).
Its a baseline that most characters go through in their development.
Its probably pretty involved getting to that number. Crafting vs price of drops being just at a point in time being just one complication.
Which type of gear? Heavy Zerker’s? I think gear would not be a good choice because the popularity of different builds and activities change the prices frequently.
How about a light, medium and heavy armor set, breaking down into components with equal parts for each t6 material. It wouldn’t be real, but it will cover most crafting materials.

“In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time”
Time for new textbooks; change in money supply is not a change in price level, they are not interchangeable.
It depends on your school of economic thought – you really should get to know me better before implying I don’t know what I’m talking about
. Keynesian economics has your definition as outlined above, although in general economist do agree that expansion of money supply in excess of output rate does result in inflation, so the 2 are inextricably linked. Austrian economics explicitly defines expansion of money supply as inflation, with inflation being the root cause of rising prices.
Sorry to burst your bubble but Austrian school isn’t considered a viable economic theory. It’s on the shelves with communism as something that doesn’t work.
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Austrian_school_of_economicsI think I’d rather stick to a less biased perspective, also from the same textbook
. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_economics
Relating Austrian economics to communism is just silly as it enshrines a free market based economy free of all intervention. It has received noticeable recognition including a Nobel prize and is used as a counter balance to mainstream economic theory by many successful fund managers around the world.
Out of the wikipedia textbook, I read the methodology and criticism sections thoroughly, for your convenience.
Methodology: The method at the basis for Austrian school is flimsy at best. Praxeology is not science but philosophy (hence shelving it next to duality and class struggle). Relying on the axiom of choice does not equate economics to me because there’s more at hand than merely that. This kicks the legs out of all that follows, regardless of whether it looks good (class struggle sounds good too in theory).
Second, some of the criticism parts are extremely harsh, some from established economists. I’m not going too deep right now, but I think it’s important to note the difference between philosophy and the work economists do. I appreciate both Austrian School and Communism for the social insights, but I don’t see them as valid economic frameworks.

I put them on the same shelve because both are philosophies neglecting basic principles to advance a political motive. Neither works because they aren’t an economic school but rather a philosophical construct.
The example John is hinting at is Japan. They’ve been printing money like crazy for 20 years, yet the only result is more deflation. It is the prime example that merely printing money doesn’t necessarily lead to inflation.
This is completely inaccurate. To quote recent news:
“The big surprise last week, though, was the action by the Japanese central bank, whose governor, Haruhiko Kuroda, announced a commitment to meet its 2 per cent inflation target in two years by at long last joining the quantitative easing party. It represents a U-turn from its stance over the last couple of decades, and is now about to follow the strategy of monetary loosening being followed in Washington and London. Lack of growth will do that. Better late to the game than never.”
For reference: quantitative easing = money printing
They’re going to print even more money than they did in the last 2 decades? Well if that’s going to help …
Important detail: hitting the 2% inflation mark over two years means getting 2.1% inflation instead of the regular 0.01% deflation. For the USA hitting 2% inflation means getting 1.9% instead of the usual 5%. Put everything in perspective again.

Although I’m kind of with you on that long term thing, simply playing the game, even over a long time, won’t give you enough gold to buy everything required for a legendary. It depends on what you do – and I don’t consider grinding dungeons or events as “playing a game” at all.
1/ yes it will be enough eventually. I don’t know why it wouldn’t. Gold trickles in by merely playing.
2/ I don’t grind dungeons nor events. I play the game as intended, which is to let the game distract me constantly.

- unplug router and leave it off for 5 minutes, so it can clear it’s ram. Yes, that’s necessary once in a while.
- optimize your routing to ports 80, 443, 6112 and 6600. Furthermore give gw2.exe full admin rights
- turn off torrentz or kick your sibling into turning them off
- check whether you’re over your bandwidth allowance in belgium (ugh)
- replace router
In almost all cases, these problems can be solved by the end user.

I was silently hoping for a good fix for precursor prices and/or scavenger hunt for this update. Who am I kidding though, 700g for a precursor is ofcourse completely how it was intended. I’ve been sitting on my 3 gifts since December, waiting for the scavenger hunt and throwing rares into the forge occasionally hoping for a lucky break wich I have never gotten, and never will most likely.
Is this precursor scavenger hunt even being worked on anymore though? All I remember hearing was “Don’t expect it before the March update” and it’s April now. An update on this matter would be appreciated.
I’m planning my third legendary now…I’m having trouble feeling too much sympathy over precursors anymore. Yes, they’re high, but it’s do-able.
As a casual who’s planning his first legendary in about a year from now, I share your viewpoint. The precursor hate is a bit irrational.
Not really. I’d be happy to do a long, drawn-out scavenger hunt (like the Black Moa Chick one from GW on steroids, for example) or some other interesting thing. Instead I can choose from:
And yet the Black Moa hunt was very easy, short and partly involved cash. If you want it, you could have it tomorrow. That’s the fate of all scavenger hunts. A scavenger hunt should start with a rare drop and/or cash. If precursor was the required first item of a legendary, instead of the last, the whole problem would not exist.
Take for example Quel’Serrar or Chromatic Breastplate in WoW. They started with the most expensive item in the game, and continued with an elaborate scavenger hunt.
a) Break out my credit card and buy enough gems to get a precursor (no doubt what ANEt is trying to get me to do)
b) Grind my kitten off to make hundreds of gold to buy one (boooooooring, sorry, I’m finding way better things to do in RL that that kind of crap)
or
c) Keep chucking the random golds/exotics that occasionally drop in to the MF and hope for good RNG (so it may happen, but most likely won’t).
You didn’t include option d).
d) play the game, enjoy it and save up the money over a longer period of time.
Legendaries were intended as a long term effort. Both grinding and buying gems invalidate the intended purpose. You know that, yet you fail to include the most obvious way to get a precursor.
My dislike for all those options is not remotely irrational. I’m willing to work for a legendary. I’m not willing to spend real money, grind the same crap over and over, or hope I win the Mystic Toilet lottery. All three of those options are beyond fail, and there’s nothing challenging or interesting about any of it.
I agree, your dislike for options a, b and c is entirely rational and I share your opinion.
Did you know option d) exists? If yes, neglecting to add it, would qualify as dishonesty. If no, I just showed you the path to your legendary.

For solo PvE definitely Ranger and Engineer, at least that is what I found
To expand:
Ranger for permanent pet and superior ranged. This profession shines in the open world.
Engineer for utility. Between kits, turrets and elixirs, you’ve got an answer to everything.
Necromancer is awesome too because of minions and durability.
Which is funny, since those three professions are most complained about in dungeons.

On the other hand, a gold standard means inflation and deflation, irrelevant to the actual state of the economy, which is eventually devastating once the value of the economy becomes more than the gold reserves. Runaway inflation can and will happen without printing a single banknote.
Third, changing fractional reserve requirements is like taking a sledgehammer to the exchange market without even involving the central bank.

snip! I did read it but I can’t quote it as well! Too long!
Kaaboose brought up an interesting list of things he thinks should be changed/fixed to help GW2, and nearly everyone here missed the point that most likely these are not the features that ANet are planning to use to beat other current games. I also think that most of the arguments in this last page become manageable if you look at them from my point of view: if you take this list a bit more lightly, as discussion for the sake of discussion, it still remains important, but maybe the chance of finding an actual agreement on some aspects might be easier.I may have mis-inturpeted this but I also feel that fixing these things, especially the Personal Story, Realms and Events are things that would set anet apart from Last gen and help it find it’s palce in this Gen.
It’s why they’re high on the list, however I’m also a firm belive on building on a solid foundation – not quicksand – and that’s why user freindlynes and Polish/Optimization are listed higher.
The whole reason I made the video was of the hopes that most of the community would agree with me, help it get noticed, and then MAYBE Anet would see it and give the things I brought up a thought when compared to their long time goals.
The community won’t agree if you put lesser important points on #1 while important things aren’t even on the list. And those people will especially not agree if you’re too stubborn to admit you were completely in the wrong with #1, as has been pointed out not only by me but several others.
I would suggest remaking the video and taking the suggestions in this thread into consideration, if you’re really concerned about voicing the opinion of the community. If you’re in the ivory WoW tower though, feel free to ignore this entire thread.

Legally, you’re not actually playing the game. You are automating an ingame function from a third party action, hence botting.
But then again a cheap Chinese person sitting in your closet farming on your account is a greyzone to begin with. After all, he’s playing.
Illegal because you’re only allowed to play on your own account. It would technically be legal if he had his own account. Say I give my son the game, and strongly “encourage” him to “give” me gold or he won’t get his weekly allowance.

- tribulation scaffolding and cavern (2 in 1)
- under new management (super easy)
- dark reverie (easy once you get it)
- king jalis refugee (super easy)
- vizier’s tower
- buried archives (extremely easy)
- antre of adjournment (relatively easy)
- spelunker’s delve (super easy)
Good luck

Take a break, take some time. Everything’s gonna be all right. Don’t you lose it, remember to take … time out for fun.

1/ 1700 hours over 7 months is 8 hours a day. That’s quite a lot and physically impossible for most people. Either you don’t sleep, don’t work or have an awesome job that involves GW2. That, or you invented a time machine? Can I has it?
2/ That looks more like over 2000g in your bank if I can guesstimate right.
