so lets examine it

water trait line self explain with pretty much basic for condi cleanse regen and aura which heal
earth trait line can be replace according to enemy group comp. blind, toughness and protection combine with stone hearth when being burst. can be change to cantrip combined with water traited for more stability or DS if enemy condi focus
tempest the usual
so we didnt take much shouts for the heal and cleanse but still got some few with elite and earth warhorn and attunments.

why scepter/warhorn – no one use it. so why not. than the healing combine with scepter in water is very huge. and with arcane brilliance the blast finisher give another 1.4k heal
and you got 2 regen to cleanse more condi.
also scepter focus got nice soft cc and hard cc with air and water and earth. kd, pull and blind.

why not focus like everybody does – the main reason for focus its it immunity with earth and SW from air. with reflect we have we can handle the same and immunity replace by blind aoe. but we got more healing with water skills and shorter cc with swiftness but losing fire shield for might and fire field which can be blast 3 times
scepter also is range so its bit better but on point handle it right so more kite than standing on point

so far this build works great in wvw roaming and group fight as the burning stack is very high and in pvp had few matches so still too early but thief still give a pain unless you manage to SOF him with 6 burning and he is gone or disengage

also you can buff you team with 15 might stacks or more with combo
wildfire + phoenix + DT + AB + aftershock +heat sync
also healing buff with WT +TS + WG +AB + aftershock +sand squall

i hardly play ele as i dont like the support role it has. but condi ele was strong and now even stronger as the burst now compensate the lack of self sustain ele has.
still will have problem versus thief evade dodge

tempest is not that needed with condi any more but still good

6% to your auto(large chunk of your outgoing damage), the 10-40% buffs I see elsewhere are onto skills with cooldown(smaller pieces of damage). And don’t forget the 100% buff to blurred Frenzy damage…

Not saying it’s enough of a buff, just this post of yours isn’t very honest.

imo the changes to soi will focus the mesmer on more power gear as the durarion wont be effected. so this will be the changes anet state to to “more power”
for druid it will mean buff in pvp as the healing power gonna get buffed with mnder being used

so my support mesmer in pvp will be ruine completly – thanks anet (i was the first and gonna be the last who use it)

i guess you didnt see ROM playing LB ranger and staff. using stealth and BOOM kill a thief in SECONDS . OP not at all he is so squishy …

YES hes used stealth
yes hes used kite and placement
yes he used range
and he got good cleanse, mobility , most of the boons and might stacks buff high

why cant thief used those for his advantage

if a thief get rifle it should be unique and not like ranger as sniper ranger is better than thief atm.

with rifle and SB (mobility) we cannot stack stealth unless we have one skill which give stealth (doubt it)
thief dont have good condi cleanse at all. and he is account on it mobility and evade (DD) so rifle need good condi handle or still have good evade skills

sniper is not fast he is stealthy . so i vote for 1 skill or mechanism which put us in stealth
like f1 and f2
when pressing f1 you get in stealth and when pressing f2 you fire sniper shot
this mechanism will serve both as defense and offense
1500 is must to compete with ranger.
the rifle skills can be bit supportive and than he can be +1 support and dmg

like fire net which block attack for 2 sec in the area
fire smoke screen which blind foes in the area
1 evade skills
etc..

all i could saw is nice duels but really not effective in pvp

spending 2 min fighting versus DH and see block block, evade ,block and immunity pops up you called it balance???
if you had 2 dodge like most classes you wouldnt be able to do that at all as thief.

the DH cooldowns are more shorter than thief. his healing abilities is much greater combine with the blocks and immunity.

as p/p i can take down DH in open field till he burn his cds but it will take some time does it mean its good one? NO

DH strong now – yes i get it . and no they hardly used in team fight as in team fight you need combine forces which DH lacks (mostly speed and rotation)

what most ppl forget is we already have p/p set which is unused even with DD
so if some of you suggest to “cripple” the rifle you are crazy just because it might have 300 range more.

p/p is unused cause of the many blocks reflect and boons spamm which we having atm.

another range weapon for a thief wont solve it unless they give him the ability to counter it.

pp afraid from high dmg burst from a thief. d/p thief can take 90% of your hp if he attack at the right moment after you used your stunbreak just with basilisk.

the only thing sniper should have is less swiftness and DD will solve it. as oyu cant use both trait line.

also some say to put a marker on your head if a thief targeting you. what is i choose the trait line and take d/p and why shouldnt other class with access to stealth will get the same like mesmer, engi and ranger…. also for above average player if he sees a thief around he should get ready. so for new player its will be l2p issue.

there is no doubt thief need range weapon.
there is no doubt d/p has been the meta too long
there is no doubt p/p even with might stack and huge dmg still crappy.

What if a Thief’s Sniper Shot had a nuclear “tell?” Like what if it did a lot of damage, but took a second or more to cast, and put one of those Mordrem Sniper crosshairs over the target’s head? That way, it’d make little difference in PvE, but in PvP, it would be reasonably easy for the target to dodge or throw up a Reflect/block/etc., even if he were distracted by other opponents.

Yes, but the whole “problem” with a highly bursty sniper in a PvP situation is, players don’t like fighting effective thieves. I mean, no matter how much work you may have to put in to line up a successful assassination, all the opposing player sees is that a Thief appeared out of nowhere, did massive DPS to them that they could do “nothing” about, and then they were downed. Totally “unfair.” But that’s an understandable reaction. Nobody likes to feel, accurately or not, that they were defeated in a way that is out of their hands.

you mean when i see that the enemy team has a thief and i ask the rev to spot him and pressure him.
any thief if left alone will decap or free +1 to kill fast
another example is when i play support and i see enemy thief i target him so my team will know where it is and they are ready for his burst
so with sniper the enemy team has to be more careful and to put out a counter class or build to it
this result in more rotation, more counterbuilds etc..

i dont see any wrong with that

its like you see mesmer in enemy team and you bring no condi cleanse. should we nerf mesmer build ?

and for the other things you wrote. p/p set already brings those this you mentions. it pressure the ele to use reflect and guard to use blocks. still you hardly see them in fight in pvp. why is that?
their effective dps is so low with no defense mechanism . so in 1v1 useless in most cases. in team fight they can +1 but not against reflects and blocks. so they lose again effective dps…

if sniper wont handle it. it wont be used in pvp even if the dmg is higher

i dont get the ppl saying rifle is gonna be op in thief hands
ranger has LB with good burst but you aint see them running around in pvp

also p/p is more close range and faster and yet you dont see it in pvp and even wvw

ppl forget about reflects and blocks

also Daredevil wont be use in sniper as both are elite trait line so we lose the dodges abilities and the dmg buff

sniper as i see it will become more stealth approach than speed approach with lots of evades
yes it could be deadly if no one will focus the thief (as for now)
yes it should have more stealth abilities (1 more to be exactly)
yes it should have teleport ability (ditch the sb already after 4 years)
yes it will be huge dmg BUT slower one. so dps should be the same (dmg per second)

also it can buff the p/p set just by using other long range weapon with teleportation like sb
P/P is faster but initiative demanding
rifle will be slower and precise . one shot one kill. if you miss you 80% dead

can be fun

either way i hope anet will challenge themself to try to change the d/p meta to rifle one….

i think ppl even me dont fully get the purpose of ranked and unranked map

atm seems that ranked area is for you to know how good you are and level up to legendary . if its so that solo-dou is good as most ppl if play with full group might be carry by the group (i have seen many ppl whom i have killed while i was ruby and they were legendery)

or

is ranked supposed to be the more high serious map than unranked where you test build and have casual fun ? if so we need to give premade groups to play in ranked also

it seems the more you go fo title and achievments solo is more appropriate

staff thief – take scepter over sword. the block and the 5 torment will hurt him
DH – dont fight on point – you cant. he has great condi cleanse so you just cant.
druid – scepter also good here but sword also useful. sometime i love to burst his pet so he switch them and focus on heal them than its more easy time for me. the main objective is to try to decap the point and leave portal so he have to stay for 2 min while my team does 5v4 elsewhere

Can’t dodge the torment application if I remember correctly, and the channel skill will make him blow dodges. This can open up the thief to a nice shatter.

Good advice

Torment is easily dodgeable, just dodge after you see the block pop up. You can even block the torment application itself if you have one available.

I pretty sure you can’t block the torment only the ether bolt that is cast on counter. I thought the torment was applied on block not counter.

I could be wrong but I don’t remember ever having anyone block/dodge it on me.

The way the skill goes is you get hit, the block icon shows up, and then about .25s later a hit-scan attack with 900 range applies the 5 stacks of torment. That hit-scan attack is blockable and dodgeable like any normal attack.

A trick you can do as a mesmer is that you can purposefully proc the block of another mesmer, and then block their counter-attack with your block, applying torment that way and avoiding their counter.

in middle of fight especially team fight its very hard to dodge the torment block proc. too much going on to see the block icon and see your aoe did proc the mesmer block

in 1v1 its doable but also you need good reflex

i am guessing its not 1v1 or hold point build rather +1 or team fight
do you really need so much stealth in team or +1 scenarios ?

good mesmer players knows that the meta build only useful with good team especially when using portal but other than that more class or build are useful atm. especially as dh counter the mesmer on pvp on point.

so all the evade rotations are not that needed unless 4 enemies target you but if so you will be dead or out of the fight unless your team help you.

staff is better than torch with kite low cd PR skill. same as blink over decoy

yes it can win versus golem . seems it was the same reason ANET nerfed mtd cause they fight golems ….

On what trait configuration? Current meta in sPvP? Because arbitrary “feels good” damage numbers on the meta non-optimal-damage amulet mean absolutely nothing on the thief, where the current meta builds don’t even run close to optimal damage output, and long range makes such builds very easy and very safe.

Further, you can’t tie a rifle skill to the class mechanic. What if the thief decides not to use the rifle? He gets a snipe shot nuke coming from… Sword/Dagger?

Further, such damage in sPvP on the existing meta build is astronomical. I could make said spec hit for 30k+ per hit in WvW.

The imbalance on the mechanic itself is also far from the mark; to have any counterplay, it’d require being revealed before dealing the damage. Otherwise one could just stack stealth with D/P or use BP/SR and snipe someone down with an unblockable nuke via BV, all of which having no tell. Being in stealth and bursting from such substantial range with the ability to shadowstep is just too powerful.

you get sniper shot when holding a gun if not you get regular steal
you said it correctly . you need someone to reveal the thief as per today. if not you gonna get shot. also today you can stack stealth so nothing change. also today thief attacks from stealth so i dont get your point…
the dmg isnt so high compare to its dps. as the attack are 3/4 sec and from melee are much faster. so yes range is more safer
in pvp i dont think it change the meta d/p weapon set. maybe the sb if they give shadow step ability with the weapon set

They won’t nerf elites or their weapons. The entire concept of a sniper is so flawed it’d either be grossly OP or horrible. There’s no in-between. They’d more likely compensate by removing the damage and other such problematic elements from the core profession, instead.

Here’s the thing.

Slow damage sources are very difficult to give fair coefficients to. This is even moreso apparent on the thief, where we have so much scaling damage potential. Trait selection alone can cause Backstab values to differ by margins of over 10k damage. And that’s just the difference, on a skill that has lower coefficients than most signature moves that came with HoT. Who knows about next expansion.

Reaper GSAA3 and Gravedigger hit for huge damage, and are awful for PvP environments. The damage isn’t bursty enough for its slow speed to make it really worth trying to get those hits. If the same is true about how the rifle would be, either it’d just not do enough damage and not be usable, or it’d have substantial damage and would be absolutely broken. I can tell you now, if given Shadow Shot’s damage on a skill at 1200 range, I could beat literally any build in the game using rifle, even if it costed 6 initiative to use. There’s so much reset and mobility potential on the thief from stealth alone that any such intermittent burst would be crazy for the amount of sustain offered

Back when shortbow was 1200 range, it was insanely strong, despite having horrible damage. Very easy to win fights without ever taking a hit.

If there’s sniping with stealth, then we just have ranged backstab/stealth gunflame. And honestly, that’s not fun for anybody to play against, and it takes elements away from the core thief. It also does the whole daredevil thing all over again of pointless powercreep and massively reducing the skill floor of the profession to a point where there becomes very little distinction in it of itself.

Without ensuring tradeoffs, the class and whole game just turns into a faceroll experience. I’d rather try and promote having that kind of stuff not happening.

sniper as a theme means every shot counts. if you miss you get spotted and 80% get killed… so after you take your 1 shot you have to reposition yourself. you have to be silent, sneaky lay in place for days for the perfect shot. do pee in you pants…. i stop here (i was in the military)

assuming marauder amulet:

blind spot AA – you blind shot the target for 1 sec 1.5k dmg 3/4
pin down – your shot cripple and slow your foe for 4 sec – 4 initiatives – 3k dmg
demoralize shot – evade backward 900 ft – 4 initiatives -1k dmg
smoke support – putting smoke field around the target area which block attacks for 2 sec – 5 initiatives
relocating bullet – shot and shadow step to that location. you are revealed for 1 second s – 6 initiatives
F1 – while not moving you get accuracy stealth and after few sec you can use F2 sniper kill shot . you are revealed after taking the shot
after 1 sec – range 900 2k dmg
after 2 sec – range 1200 4k dmg
after 3 sec – range 1500 8k dmg

Again so many wrong comments in here… Just like buffs and boons on phantasms…

Blur = evade

Distortion = invulnerability.

Difference between the 2, other than capture point?

When you blurred frenzy (blur) vs a target with retal, you will take retal dmg. With distortion you wont get retal dmg.
Same with shock aura. With blur you will get stunned, you wont with distortion.

Same will happen with many other un-evadable effects (electric fence, unstable ground, slick shoes, DH f1 pull, etc ) but with distortion they will never happen…

Blur = evade frames. Same evade frames as any other skill with evade or same as dodging. It just gives you a fancy buff icon in your bar.

the blur doest give retal dmg rather the sword attack
so yes if the blur will give dmg in some way you will take retal dmg
but if blur wont do any dmg it will be just an evade like dodge (without cancel action i think)

so blur alone is boring like another dodge on a thief

also do you think if anet gonna nerf SOI maybe they will give some back with the new trait line

Condi mesmer burst is still ridiculously OP and needs a nerf. The only counter is Diamond Skin from Ele.

DH wont feel the burst with all the blocks, and cleanse
DRUID – if play right wont feel the conditions
thief – evade all the time and stealth or disengage if needed
scrapper better dmg on point and cc with ok cleanse
ele – good reflect and heal skills even without diamond skin
warrior – resistance say no more
necro – backfire conditions on you but doable.

so what is so OP

i assume if they will give rifle with sniper trait line
1. we will see ricochet back
2. 1200 range or even 1500 like ranger if it will be slow (ie no swiftness)
3. blind
4. stealth ability with 1 skill or with new utilities
5. maybe when stealth for reposition we will get superspeed (like trapper rune)

dont forget DD trait gave many things like perma swiftness, dmg boost, endurance gain cure inhibiting condition and another dodge
SA trait line focus on 1 sec longer stealth and blind so the new trait line should give something else for the thieves.

DA will be must with immobilize and dmg boost
so we left with SA or TR
TR give basically 3 initiative and all the rest is not that important for a SNIPER

what sniper thief needs: initiative management, super speed , block abilities, vulnerability, cripple, poison, fury, might, smoke field to sit on, shadowstep skill

warrior and engi rifle dont have shadow step skill. so like SB skill IA a skill which teleport you away from your enemy while doing smoke field or dmg so you get stealth
if we have another teleport skill maybe SB wont be so needed any more.

all the other skill are the same as warrior or engi. immobilize, evade, vulnerability, and cc

think what sniper has as a theme. low armor, low ammunition, very high dmg which can even kill if you head shot, traps, and stealth as every shot counts and single target unless you use unique ammunition…

so low initiatives
high dmg with buff or vulnerability
unblockable shots with high cost of initiative
stealth ability
shadow step ability to get to higher ground

so maybe stance from warrior or gadgets from engi or survival from ranger
shout too noisy from sniper, turrets will reveal thief location…

the rumor posted on reddit. about future elite and weapons for each class

sniper is good but they sound like thief should stand in place and charge it shoot so not like unload spamming rather positioning , stealth and boom.
so if the dmg will be high ppl will qq and we get nerf to dmg than noone will use it.
if we get more sustain dmg thieves wont use it.
dont forget already many classes have block and reflect

i really love to see sinper with a thief but also who can handle the block/reflect

I feel like what mesmer really need is a decent dps melee weapon more than anything else though. While blur frenzy is good, sword delivers terrible dps due to how slow its auto chain is.

Condi melee? Maybe but given mesmer’s theme condi (confusion/torment) I doubt it’ll be a popular choice unless they somehow introduce a new useful condi for mesmer.

i think anet seeing we cant use shield so probably torch which is condi off hand
so axe with burning and poison can be an option (but wait revenant has it so no)
so no confusion no torment no burining no poison. we left with bleeding …
ppl gonna be so mad about it….

anet listen make it direct dmg maybe with a touch of hybrid with condition alongside

sustain dmg can work if we will have good defenses with the blur thing

the original leak source also claimed that mirage will get blur to replace dodge , i dont know how it will work . but hopeful nothing like tthat thief boring 3 dodges . thats surely lazy and add little to gameplay .also we dont need another support role

so instead of dodge we evade through blur. wth? same thing different name

we need blur to be unique not just evade.

like reflect all dmg not just projectiles
give retaliation
blind maybe
smoke field

etccc…

you may want to check reddit yourself .i feel its more like thief 3 dodges thing but i can do wronng .
also it seems you will share blur which we currently can do now often with inspiration line + signet trait in dom line .

there is blur from sword 2 and distortion from f4 signets and insp line

AA – vulnerability – like the necro??? weakness probably for self sustain. or maybe both
would we see retaliation reliable source? . necro got it so probably not . but necro axe hardly used so maybe yes? maybe give aoe retaliation by the number of illusion you have
or a skill which give blur for 2 sec with 15 sec cd…
the clone do what? will it be teleport like the sword or stealth or leap like the staff
my idea is like the sword. you teleport to your enemy (sword create a clone near the enemy) and you can switch places back. good for shatter burst and teleport option. with blur you can be safe for your burst
the dmg should be chill or cripple or blind

do we get superspeed when he blur? –
a stunbreak with blur
dmg buff for couple of sec when we blur
i read around here ppl said dodges will get replace by blur. its sound the same unless they give blur a unique effect
what about stability and might buff…do they have place in this trait line?
blind ability sound nice with the mirage concept
what will shatter do? are they gonna be the same? or give blur or refuel the endurance for blur abilities

New weapons/elite specs will not bring anything new to GW2.

Without a rework to classes and the way we build, it’ll be same old same old.

unless it design around build diversity. so both elite spec should be useful with each unique purpose
so far chrono build around condi so lets assume mirage will be direct dmg

so like thief when he dodges we get 3 unique GM trait. we will have blur which will buff our dmg by 10% for 4 sec. reduce dmg 10% for 4 sec.
when we stun we get blur and stunbreak.
blur reflect dmg to its source (like retaliation but much harder)
and many more ideas which can make this more entertaining

mirage for mesmer also sound cool but what can it brings that we dont have already….
mirage – meaning “to look at, to wonder at”. we already have clones which does nothing and easily notice and killed…so no really mirage here

so more clones….?
if mesmer could really hide around bunch of clones it could be cool and handful
if mesmer could easily switch places with its clones
or produce more faster clones which die after few seconds than it could be a mirage
if our blur mechanism would buff a little more so more blur abilities and dmg around them when you blur . like when you shatter you get blur for 2 sec which reflect any dmg source you took.

pls dont let it be condi rather strong direct dmg . it sound and feel range 900 weapon than melee. guard would be melee so mesmer would be range.
just pls dont like the necro.

AA 3 attacks and the final attack blind for 1 sec
second attack create a clone at your location and teleport you to the enemy . second mechanism you can switch places with your clone ( the opposite of sword). leap finisher
third attack you spin around hitting foes getting blur for 2 sec and creating smoke field . whirl finisher.

concept : control enemies actions, skills, movement and endurance. also gain retaliation to give back some dmg.
as we have already power block the idea is not only to cc rather give the enemies harder time to burst or use skills with more skill denial options
this is no burst build concept rather control concept which dmg comes through retaliation, and cc dmg buff

utilities : deception
arcane thievery – enemies utilities are disable for 5 seconds and yours recharge faster 33%. 40 sec cd.
blackout – disable enemies skills for 6 sec . your skills disable for 5 sec. 40 sec cd
overload – create an shocking aura for 5 sec. enemies hit you taking dmg and lose 10% endurance. break stun. 35 sec cd.
energy burn – creating a lighting field which reduce 10% endurance and dmg enemies for each second inside of it . 35 sec cd
elite – tease – taunt and slow enemies around you for 3 sec . 60 sec cd
healing skill – mind shock – heal yourself and get shocking aura for 2 sec and cleanse 2 conditions . 30 sec cd

skills:
weapon: dagger
AA – cause weakness for 2 sec , next attack steal enemies endurance 5%, last attack slow enemies for 1 sec
mindseeker – teleport to your foe and slow them for 3 sec and creating a clone at your location . 8 sec cd
twisted mind – leap forward chill and cripple nearby foes . 15 sec cd

trait line

deceptive mind – gain access to mind shock (F5) which allows you to gain shocking aura to nearby allies for 2 seconds for each illusion you shatter. your shatter skills give retaliation for 3 sec

corruptive mind – your illusions take 1 condition off you every second
deceptive reaction – your deception skills recharge faster 20%. every time you use deception skills you disable 1 random skill from nearby enemies for 5 sec.
panic – if you manage to disable enemy skills you have 10% dmg buff for 10 sec

slow mind – critical hits by enemies slow them for 3 sec (5 sec cd)

dont mind me – create a clone when ever you daze a foe
guilty retaliation- taunt enemies for 3 sec you manage to interrupt. you gain retaliation for 3 sec . 10 sec cd.
delusion mind – you gain 500 hp per second for each condition on you

blur Images – your shattering skills give you superspeed for 3 sec

dead body slow mind – taking fatal dmg heal you instead. your skills are disable for 3 sec. 40 sec cd.
retaliation burden – retaliation is 100% stronger and 50% longer
power lock – do 20% more dmg for 10 sec anytime you interrupt a foe

Hi,

I have one question, if i have master of fragmentation , it allow me to interrupt 5 people .

Mistrust inflict 4 stack of confusion on 5 people around the target if i interrupt.

So…. if i interupt 5 people at the same time, do they have 20 stack of confusion ?

yes works usually with AI around like necro minions…
on players usually not everyone is attacking at the same time to interrupt them all

the problem is not DH. you aint see it in top esl cause no stacking role
the problem is when you have 3 dh 1 ranger in a same team
the will win the point and manage to res the down

being patient isnt the solution as his team mate will come after the guard burns all his cd

Condi Shatter Mesmer, Why Inspiration?

in 1v1 situation you can take dueling or domination
inspiration is for beginners or if you play versus really good player

yes insp got sustain, mainly with condi cleanse. the heal part is about 1k per shatter and if you use 4 shatter to get 4 heal than you doing something wrong

in 1v1 dueling give blind which can give you a way to deal versus melee class like thief and warrior

so dueling is all about to use the shatter at the right time. offense when you need to strike and defense when you need to blind

through in mod and you have yourself another cc to control your enemy

the meta use insp cause it suite in every situation and also our only sustain trait line.

but its just a handicap so drop it and become better

I still wonder if this is intended or a bug, because to me it’s more like a bug that the shield #4 is the only phantasm that can be dodged. I hope they “fix” this eventually

bit its also the only phantasm which can proc twice
