To the OP your analysis is simplistic without any real research. The Tier 4 US score is not actually a reflection of the level of competitiion which has been very good. Its been one of the more enjoyable weeks of WvW for the severs involved.
Sorry, but this does nothing for the PvE players (of which there are more than pure WvW’ers) struggling to get by bugged content such as the Arah door, Balths temple and loads of other DE’s and Skill points across the land where changing servers is currently the only way to do that bugged content
So submit a bug report and do other stuff. Its what I’ve done.
Thanks to no guesting such people are now stranded, being unable to team with friends and guildies after being able to do what they wanted to.
They’ve been given time to transfer to the server of their choice, thats hardly being stranded.
I think it’s quite unnecessary and showing poor sportsmanship. Beating an enemy into the ground isn’t being competitive. It’s being a poor sport.
Exactly, then SOR try to portray themselves as honourable combatants. They can’t have it both ways.
@ those complaining about spawn camping the northern supply camp: It is a tactical location required for supplying keeps with upgrades.
So defend at the camp not the door. If you’re staying on the door you’re spawn camping.
The update should have been done at the reset.
Isn’t it correct that each server gets to have 1/3 (thats 33%) of the total possible map population? If we fill our population slots and still out number another server on the map, it is because that server has not shown up for battle. A common occurrence throughout the week regardless of server.
Each server has 166 spots per map.
Has there been an official response to this?
Yes the small update thread, 2nd page.
So did the BG guilds then transfer back? If thats whats happening then there’s more urgency for something to be done about free transfers.
Oh, F YOU!
Hacking, really? Your server started this “meany GoM hacking orbs, they’re all hackers, I have sand in my pants” nonsense just to hack those kitten orbs yourself during your next match.
There isn’t a single server I don’t like (god, I respect SoR even after last match), but you Yaks, you’re the only server I truly hate. Enjoy empty WvW, kittens.
Thats just silly.
1. 1 hacker was a transfer from a non Yaks guild who transferred in to cause trouble.
2. Both times Yaks let SOR take the Orb back.
Please don;t boast, stay classy Yaks
Thanks for the update Colin, its really all we needed to hear.
“I just talked with Mike Ferguson about the questions and concerns that you expressed in this ticket. He said that the dev team is aware that some players are rather worried about changing worlds and how those changes can have a significant negative impact on the overall game experience. The good news is that, from observation, even widespread “desertions” of a world do, over time, end up getting balanced out as the world improves, as others decline, and so forth.
I’ve got no doubt that this would happen but it will happen over a longer period which is problematic. They really really need to take account of population shifts in the scoring.
They’re going to end up with WvW servers and other PvE only servers unless they do something. Maybe thats their plan but I somehow doubt it.
So nothing on free transfers and if anything the culling is getting worse.
“…Alot of the bandwagon guilds aren’t really contributing to our WvW efforts. The reality is they are still a somewhat small drop in the bucket when compared to our larger, more active original guilds. There are a few exceptions, but the bandwagoners serve more to tie up queue times than anything else. I mean this strictly in terms of actual contribution, and not just populating a zerg…”
Never mind, Lord Lefteris. No matter what you say, people will simply not accept that they lost because they were outplayed. No, it was the fact that SoR had 900 people in every borderland to their 20 (even if WvW server cap mechanics make that completely impossible).
This is funny when there are posts from guilds that transferred stating what happened and mentioning the numbers that transferred.
Do anet have time? Not IMHO, the mmo audience move pretty quickly these days. I watched BW sit on issues for ages with SWTOR and it destroyed that game. Anet have to make quick decisions.
Plenty of questions being asked on the forum without a response.
I’ll tangent just a bit here, but stick with me. I’m fine with transfers staying free actually, but ONLY if you transfer to a server that’s in a lower bracket than your current server. Transfers should not be allowed to any server in your current pairing. Transferring should mean you give up the right to play WvW for the entirety of the current match and possibly the following match.
Good points all of them and anet should really look at these sort of changes if transfers are to remain free for the time being.
Tbh, while Yaks Bend was winning, most of the rallying calls in map chat were something like: “Yak’s Bend sounds stupid, you dont wanna be beaten by stupid right?” So YB, you got your world’s name to blame.
So much for the whole SOR is better than that.
Look at it from this standpoint, SoR is completely dominating the tier above us, virtually non-stop. We dominated them (complete and total domination) at night time.
SOR is a different server this week due to guild transfers.
Mara, no one with a brain is crediting your success to transfers. SoR won last week after all without them. They are crediting ‘ruining the match’ to transfers, making it no fun to play. Not like, “We would beat you without the transfers” (though it might be possible) but rather, “Hey this is no fun due to transfers.”
This, a thousand time this. SoR gained much respect last week after the way they came back to win last week but this week the sheer numbers that have been fielded have made it a non event. This of course is coupled with their superior strategy and discipline.
yeah i was thinking the same thing, unless maybe gom/yaks are jumping ship to us
Well its been mentioned that YB guilds have transferred to SOR. I’d like to know which guilds.
Look around, this imbalance is happening in every single tier, and Yak’s is actually putting forth the best 2nd place showing in the top 5 brackets.
Thats unbelievable yet not a word from anet. They either need to stop free transfers to high pop servers immediately or revert back to 24 hour or 48 hour matchups until they can get a handle on it.
Or just stop free transfers. The matchmaking will be useless until that happens.
So what YB guilds transferred to SOR?
Thieves not rendering from stealth properly, had this happen to me yesterday.
Check out Sanctum of Rall’s epic repel of Yak’s Bend this morning on Yak’s own borderland map at Dreaming Bay. We went from having 7 trebuchets hitting our inner walls from the outer ramparts to completely wiping Yak’s army. AWESOME fight guys!!
Nicely repelled, but YB was so disorganised during that siege it was ridiculous.
There definitely should be greater rewards for defending a keep.
Anyways, I dunno. I have perspective from a variety of other classes in and out of tourneys, and elementalists are fairly strong.
Balancing shouldn’t be done based on tournament players, it should be based on the average player because right now balance changes affect all aspects of the game not just tPvP. It occurs to me that maybe this is anet’s mistake with the Ele that they nerfed it based on a very narrow sample.
Of course if, as was implied before the game came out, sPvP could be balanced separately from PvE then it would mitigate some issues but they can’t or won’t do that at the moment.
What I think they should concentrate on is fixing bugs (as opposed to making stupid changes like the nerf to Glyph of Renewal) then look at maybe things like cool downs and casting times and see what happens then.
This is the only game that I know of that gives me exactly the amount of social interaction I want, with the option for more. The only one.
I agree, its the perfect game for what the current MMO market wants as far as socialising and grouping goes. You don’t have to group except for 1 specific aspect but you can socialise as much or as little as you want while playing with and against others.
I don’t like the way it is structured now for the reasons you stated.
My thoughts were along the lines of quests and secrets that you have to find in order to make/craft a precursor.
Well thats how I thought legendaries would be created when they were first mentioned. Instead we get dumb luck and grinding.
Just wait for the next updates. The ONLY changes in the works for eles that I’ve seen a comment on from Anet are upcoming nerfs to tanky ele builds. So the only viable build we currently have is next to go.
They haven’t said they will nerf it they’ve just said they are looking at the build. They’ve also made comments implying they are looking at improving dagger main hand abilities.
I’d hope addressing balance also means addressing the lack of a PvE/PvP split.
Mesmers are dying in PvE because of PvP nerfs. Apparently 3 years of constant pushing by the community + the death of the Paragon in PvE wasn’t enough to make it apparent that PvE/PvP splitting is absolutely essential to Guild Wars.
Equally with Ele if there are nerfs becuase of tPvP then its affecting everything else. I thought one of the ideas behind separating S and T PvP from the rest of the game was so that balance changes could be made in isolation.
rampager is condition based IIRC and so would be better with S/D than staff.
Yeah I think I just had a bad night.
Also ranger with the trait that allows them to place traps where they want.

NSP has a large oceanic guild – FOO – that night caps. This is not going to be an even match. SoR is very generic US guild based server without significant oceanic presence.
FOO were on Yaks Bend, did they move?
Thank you :-), transparency with the player base is vital.
How about anet actually explain what they are doing then there might not be as much raging.
When the class is generally seen as underpowered with bugs that require fixing and then anet go and nerf glyph of renewal and whirlpool without any explanation, well its easy to see why people get annoyed.
I know someone who got 2 in the 1 jormag event. Lucky bugger.
Yet we have just been nerfed further in the latest patch.
And this last patch dealt with skills that were never an issue in top tournament play, so Im thinking it was the knee jerk nerfs, that the mass audience wanted to hear. And this is getting frustrating, because I have such a high expectations for this game, to become a real name on the competitive scene and I have invested more than 200 hours of PvP now and countless hours of theory crafting and stream observation – just to become a better player and my team – a better team. I wish this game doesn’t get zerged over by the wow fanboys and my time wasted.
In future, I hope ANet picks quality over quantity when considering further balance changes.
This is why balance changes should be iterative not big bang.
Plus the lack of communication as to what anets thoughts are on class balance and why they buff or nerf various things eg. the 7/10 patch is lacking and should be improved. While its obvious why some changes are made eg. changes to thief other changes are not obvious eg. the changes to elementalist.

They do drop there’s a chance even without magic find.
After the patch loot drops appear to be nerfed even further. Anyone else notice this? I did the whole grenth chain and 2 of the town defence events for barely nothing, 2-3 blues with magic find booster..
You have got to be kitten me! What about fixing the poor downed state?
Yeah I noticed that I hadn’t received anything for a couple of days. Great stuff now to get rid of the bots.
Note to Jonathan Sharp as someone on the Elementalist forum stated before you nerf one of the only viable PvP builds for the class perhaps you should ask why players are using that build.
And please any balance changes should be iterative not big bang.
Signets/Auras build:
This is my signets aura’s build (adapted from someone elses build on gw2guru I think):
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=Vl34;2B2VY0A57N-Z0;9;4J9T-948-0;041B;14;0U;5sV2DsV2D8cd
Yours is more oriented to support. Shard of ice would be nice but I can get vulnerability in other ways and with my build the uptime on protection, fury and swiftness is high especially with dual daggers.
Well, it’s a matter of personal taste, but I don’t like that Shadow armour at all. It looks like something a shaman or a necromancer would wear.
That shadow armor is just a reskinned verison of the armor you can find in other similar areas like Gendarran Fields.
You guys are seriously still whining? The answer Jon Peters gave is a legitimate answer.
Its an answer, it demonstrates that their aims are legitimate. It doesn’t answer the issues that people have raised over the last couple of weeks however, namely:
1. the solution does nothing to stop botters despite it being their aim and does appear to affect legitimate farmers. It seems to be a brute force approach to an issue that actually requires more delicacy.
2. The complete lack of transparency from anet over this and other issues.
3. The lack of testing before releasing.
