OP:
What everyone else said. Its not illegal, and is perfectly ok to do. However, some have moral reservations about such things. I personally don’t, I’m just too cheap to pay someone for something that I can do myself :P

In the end, just ignore the haters. Don’t respond, don’t do anything. Just block and move on. If they get nasty about it, report and forget. You’ll live longer.

F2P accounts abuse in PvP

so today I was faced against and teamed up with 3 burn guardians who queued together. Each had 100-200 AP so obviously they’re new accounts and they would be matched up against people who are new to pvp. well im pretty sure its fun to get bursted with 13 stacks of burn and have the new players get a laugh spam by them

anyways i think there should be a higher lvl requirement for these f2p accounts to enter pvp.

For a new F2P player, to come up with a OP burn guard build, unless they were looking at meta battle, is highly unlikely. Even a veteran MMO player would take more that 2 days to come up with a build like that, and know how to play it. Unless those players were copying straight out of meta battle, but even then it would take a little bit of time to learn how to play it effectively.

My guess is that a couple of vets got free accounts, rolled up burn guards just to troll people in PvP. I am sure you weren’t the only one who saw it was a low AP account, with a lower level player and thought “easy prey” and weren’t prepared for what they could do.

I think you misunderstand him.

He’s saying that veterans making new accounts will ruin the experience for people who are actually new to the game. New players will be matched up against veterans on new accounts, get destroyed and laughed at, and dislike the game. He’s offering the suggestion of increasing the level requirement to play PvP so that veterans are less likely to spend the time making new accounts to troll with.

My bad. Maybe it was the wording, but it sounded like he got rekt by some smurf accounts and was upset.

Although raising the lvl cap for PvP will lead to less vet trolling, it also restricts new players. Although we have no way of knowing, I am sure that at least some of the new F2P accounts were picked up by PvPers wanting to check out the game. I know I would have. I tend to do that when picking out/up a new game. I’ll check for a demo/free version and check out what interests me about it. If it’s something I enjoy, I’ll lay down the money for it.
I am sure I am not the only one who does that.
Restricting PvP for those interested in PvP would do more to discourage them from actually buying the full game then anything.

In any event, I don’t think that vet trolling will be a “thing”. Right now, it’s the novelty of it. And something different to pass the time. After awhile, vets will go back to their main accounts, and the noobs will be in peace once again.

Legendary...for the non-crafters..

I kind of have to agree with this.

A Legendary in GW2 is not a Legendary at all. There is nothing Legendary about grinding/farming/crafting a weapon. It should have some sort of story behind it or a huge quest line or something. Not just require you to play the RNG game and grind for it. There is nothing Legendary about them.

I would like to see an actual Legendary weapon in GW2. One that has a history and takes you on a journey throughout the game, find the pieces and facing challenging foes as you delve into the depths of some forgotten tomb to piece together a long forgotten Legendary relic of the past. Then have to face some epic boss to siphon their essence into the blade of old to awaken it’s true potential.

Not “hey let’s go gamble in the forge and then craft some pieces to make this epic weapon!”. There is nothing Legendary about that.

Which is part of the reason they are changing they way you get precursors in HoT. So the process of making a legendary has a story attached.

You do certain types of things to get the first part of the pre, then as you quest/explore/fight/etc. yout pre gets stronger, until eventually, it has become a legend, forged by the blood of your enemies and tested in the crucible of adventure!

"There is just one thing to buy"

pdavis.8031

Is false.
Sorry to call out on this. But Anet shouldn’t mis-represent things…

There is also Season 2 to buy, so you can buy. HOT, then, if you want, you can buy Season 2. 2 things to buy, not one.

Am I being unreasonable in saying that this statement is false?

Season 2 is option story content. Not having any part of Season 2 doesn’t prevent you from being able to play any of the content, old or new (up to HoT of course) As pointed out, to get the story you can party with someone who has it unlocked. The only thing you are missing is some skins, and an Ascended Amulet.

So yes, there is only 1 thing to buy. You buy HoT, and you get the whole game, without the free account restrictions.

Can using skill No. 2 “destroy” the shovel, like using skill No.1 does?

No.

Skill #2 can be used as many times as you like until the shovel itself despawns from not being used to dig something up for too long.

Skill #1 on the other hand will instantly break the shovel only if it manages to dig up a buried chest.

Not entirely true.

Skill 2 has a chance to break the shovel upon use. It’s a low chance to be sure, but I’ve broken more than a few shovels with that skill. I just manually find them now, and don’t use skill 2 any more anyway.

Similar to the Mouths and Eyes of Zhaitan? But attached, and not as mobile?

But that still doesn’t explain the Husks….

Great Jungle Wurm and Mordy

pdavis.8031

So this was “kinda” brought up in another thread, and I’m sure it’s been discussed at length before, but what if the Great Jungle Wurm is actually one of Mordremoths champions?

According to the wiki, it’s believed that the GJW is part of “something darker” then the nightmare court. Which to me, says “Mordremoth”.

It’s also been suggested that the Husks are tied together with the GJW. And we’ve seen “normal” Husks, Nightmare Husks (Husks that have been taken and used by the Nightmare court), and Mordrem Husks (Which apparently are Husks that have been corrupted by Modremoth.)

What confuses me, is that IF the GJW is a champion/minion of Mordemoth, then by extension the Husks would also be minions. BUT we see Mordrem Husks. Which means that Mordremoths Husk minions have been corrupted by Mordremoth….Yeah doesn’t really fit.

So where does that leave the GJW? It doesn’t seem likely that it is a champion of Mordremoth. Is it tied to the Three Headed Jungle Wurm? Or something else?

So many questions!!!

"Bubbles" the hidden Elder Dragon

Mordy’s minions was not much of a mystery since get to see his first type being the Husks in Crucible of Eternity.

I think it’ll be quite awhile before we get to “Bubbles”. I mean it’s been 3 years and we haven’t even gotten to Mordremoth yet.

But as far was the Husks and Mordremoth. It seems that Husks may actually a plant creature all of their own. Although the Nightmare court did have them around, and the Inquest did experiment on them, it seems that they are tied to the Great Jungle Wurm.

Unless of course GJW is itself a minion/champion of Mordremoth then Husks would be also.

But there are hints and rumors about the GJW that suggest that it is part of “something darker” then the nightmare court…which could suggest it being tied to Mordy, but its not conclusive.

The restrictions noted on the first page make it sound like a demo (sort of like WoW free to play up to 60, which is a demo compared to max level). I would be fine with that.

However…

play all of World vs. World. Trial accounts may participate in World vs. World but cannot enter the Eternal Battlegrounds or Borderlands maps.

Does not compute! head explodes from the oxymoron

EotM is technically WvW so the trial accounts (if any) will be limited to EotM. :P

I think your reading too much into this.

No one is saying everything should be free forever.

However, when you say something will be free, with no strings, you should keep your word.

Ill say this again, I dont mind paying for fees, subs, box costs or even services, as long as its up front, and no strings. I feel the same way about my bank, they start adding crap on my statement when they did not explicitly list those charges up front, or they hide them in miles of tiny disclaimers, that I have a problem with. And I dont care if its 25 cents or 50 bucks, I have a problem with it either way.

Can you show where Anet said, or implied, that LS content would be free, with no strings?

Again, this wasn’t something they snuck up on us. They were very open and honest about it from the word go. The exact opposite of what you are saying.

As far as the TV show and DVD analogy.
There are often times certain extras, or even episodes that require a “subscription” to watch that were not a part of the DVD collection, nor were aired on TV.

Battlestar Galactica had several “webisodes” that only were available online for residents of the US. If you were outside of the US, you had to buy the special DVDs. Also, they were only available for a limited time. Thus, if you wanted to watch them, you had to either buy the DVDs, or watch them through a paid subscription service (i.e. hulu, netflix etc.)

I disagree that this is “seasonal content”, this is not time gated , side content, like the winter and halloween events. This is the main story of game, bridging the gap towards the next expansion. This is like if they time gated part of the Zaitan story if you didn’t buy Guild Wars 2 at launch. It’s money grabbing and I expect better from Areanet.

I already bought the dvd, this is hiding an epilogue if you didn’t watch it at a certain time.

And yes, I know Areanet is a business and they are free to make money however they want. But hiding story behind a paywall is not what I expected from them when I bought the game and I am disappointed in them.

Don’t forget you can always play the episodes for free. Just join a party with someone who has it unlocked.

This is in no way dishonest, nor shady, nor “money grabbing”.
They were upfront and honest about it from even before season 2 launched.

Besides, this has been discussed at length a multitude of times. There are several threads about it, where people are voicing their displeasure.

Please merge this with one of those. Thanks!

@Tega

First, Ascended stat change has been something asked for for a very long time. It doesn’t negate the time and effort spent on crafting the stats you wanted. What it does however, is provide those few lucky enough to get an Ascended drop to be able to get the stats they want. Before those who got drops were kittened over because of an ultra rare drop that was ultimately useless.

Second. Precursors won’t be “free”. They will require a large time investment. My guess is nearly the same amount of time to farm the gold needed, if not more. But this is a way for those who don’t want to farm gold, and grind endlessly for months in order to get a precursor. Again, it’s something that has been asked for for a very long time.

These changes don’t “cater to casuals”. They allow players to be able to focus on the things they find fun and enjoy, and not feel pressured to do certain things within the game in order to achieve anything.

As far as the dyes. Why not reward players with an ultra rare super expensive account bound dye of their choice for playing for 3 years? I don’t think it’ll effect the market all that much. Those 1-2 year veterens still won’t be able to get it for another year or two. And if they want it without having to wait a year, they can and will still buy it.

You also have to consider that with all the 3rd year players showing off their cool new dyes, it might inspire 1-2 year players to buy them. In effect increasing the demand, rather then suppressing it.

hopefully this leads finally to the point, that now where the event is finalyl fixed and ill run properly, that we will see soon also a significant increase in the supply of Sams, so that the ridiculous price of 300-400 Gold will finally fall down to a normal level due to the people that sit on some Sams sin years getting finally forced to go down with their prices, if they want to make still some profits with them.

haven#t bought it yet or done alot the event, because I always waited patiently for it, that anet wil lfinalyl fix this event, so that the game will finalyl see a more constant supply of new sams getting into the game, so that the supply can grow larger than the demand, so that prices will go down ….

Actually, I am not sure if it’ll drop that much.

I am sure it’ll it drop a bit. But being a collection item, and highly prized, even with the event fixed there will still be a large number of people who would rather just buy it.
Look at Pendant of Arah, Commissar’s Manifesto and All Seeing. Those events are working fine, but they are still pretty high priced. Plus, if the demand is a reflection of the number of players who need it for the collection, then all those that do drop won’t be sold on the TP. If it does drop in price, it won’t be for a long while, until the majority of players who are needing it get it as a drop, and continue farming the event (if at all) in order to increase the supply.

I suspect that after a month or two, with the event fixed, you’ll start to see lower numbers of people running the event. Partially due to the fact that they got their drop, and the event chain itself isn’t very profitable.

He knows about us because he is a spy, but he’s a minor NPC with no importance to the plot. It would be incredibly bad storytelling if it were him. Not to mention Marjory would have been aware of it were a Charr who had held her from behind…

Perhaps, but an unknown NPC as one who is behind everything, in my opinion, makes more sense then a well known NPC.

Perhaps, however, if he can change appearance, it is possible the said Charr is either a mesmer, or has some other abilities that are yet unknown.

What were the Mordrem pre-corruption?

in Lore

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

So officially, it’s not clear, whether it is animals and creatures turned into plant monsters, or if it’s plants turned into creatures.

My personal opinion on the matter is that it is plant matter turned into creatures. If it was the latter, then we would see those killed by Mordrem be converted into Mordrem themselves. Much like the Risen, or the Branded.

I think it’s some from column A, some from column B. Unless the plants grew fur and bones, the mordrem wolves were clearly animals at one point, and on the other end of the spectrum the husks seem to be altogether plant. It wouldn’t be unprecedented- we see it a bit with the icebrood, and per developer interviews Primordus could corrupt creatures as well as stone if he cared to.

True, the Mordrem wolves WERE animals at some point, but they were dead when they become corrupted.
“Mordrem Wolves are mordrem which are made from the corpse of a wolf with the roots of a flower burrowing into its body and wrapped around its spine and skull.”

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mordrem_Wolf

It seems that Elder dragon corruption in general works a bit differently per dragon.

Zhaitan seemed only able to corrupt the dead, thus creating the risen. One wouldn’t turn risen until they had been killed first.

Jormag can corrupt the living, but generally only does so to those who come to him.

Kralkatorrik seems to be able to corrupt anything physical with his breath. Which means that his energy isn’t doing the corruption.

Primordus seems to create his minions from stone and fire, rather than corrupting living beings. (Not sure about that interview though, I’ll have to look it up.)

And Mordremoth…well thats what we are trying to find out

It’d be cool if they revisited the old maps to change some the standard map events for newer ones to indicate the passage of the past 3 years while still maintaining play-ability for new players.

I kinda like the idea, but it wouldn’t work. I don’t know if you have noticed, but the maps are locked in time relevant to the Personal Story. In the starter zones, the time line of those maps, reflect whats happening in the Personal Story. As you progress the PS, and change maps, the time line adjusts to in those areas, leading up to Orr, and the Pact. If you never did any of the PS, and went into Orr, its a bit confusing when trying to follow the narrative. What is this “Pact”? What are the Orders? Whats a “Whispers agent”? or a “Vigil Crusader”? Etc.

Although they did kinda mess with the time line, with the Tower of Nightmares, and the destruction of Lions Arch and leaving the wreckage behind. New players were confused, and returning players only saw the destruction, but had no idea what happened. In short it was a mess, and frustrated and confused a lot of people, including vets who play on a regular basis.

From the wiki:

The appearance and shape of the Mordrem vary, but all of them have traits commonly associated with flora, being composed of corrupted plant matter. When they appear, a growth of small vines and other vegetation can be seen on the ground as they rise. They can take various shapes, such as the Mordrem Wolves appearing more animalistic and the Mordrem Husks as tall lumbering creatures. The process of Mordremoth’s corruption remains unclear, however, such as whether the creatures are formed into new shapes from vegetation or if Mordremoth takes animals and turns them into plant-like creations. However, there’s been no shown cases of the latter in the places attacked, and those the Mordrem kill are left displayed strangled by the vines.

At the very least, we would see human/charr/asura and others as Mordrem if it was creatures being turned into Mordrem, and not just plant matter in the shape of creatures.

Why does swiftness exist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pdavis.8031

Erasmus:
continued….

PvP:
“That’s actually the funniest one: “positioning” matters in the game-mode where “good positioning” is already defined for the players by little circle markers on the map. Even then, once a player takes up “good positioning,” it’s so easily compromised by damage spam and teleports that the game has become entirely choked with stability, invulnerability, vigor, CC and passive/rapid healing to the point at which “compromising someone’s good positioning” is merely just the beginning of the process of whittling through an enemy’s invuln periods while the two (or more) of you stand relatively close together and eat most every attack anyway. Another reminder to everyone that when words like “evade,” “block,” and “invulnerable” pop up on the screen, it doesn’t mean that you smartly evaded them with “good positioning;” it means that you ate them because avoiding damage with “good positioning” alone in GW2 is a moot discussion. It doesn’t happen, which is why everyone has crutches that prolong combat and help people pretend that they’re dragging out a skillful encounter.”

Although the points are clearly marked, it doesn’t do anyone any good to just bunch up in the middle of the circle the whole time. Even newbie PvP players can see this after their first game. There are many cases where is is far more beneficial to position ones self OUTSIDE the circle, and “bomb” it from afar. There are also places where a teleport won’t get to, nor is it easy to “damage spam”. Take the ledge in Temple of The Silent Storm for example. A ranger, or any long range player, up on the ledge can do some serious damage if left unchecked. Of course a person can just run up to the top of the ledge as well, and drive off the attacker, but in doing so, it takes one person out of the circle. With swiftness, they aren’t out of the circle for as long. In HoT, from what I understand there are going to be some maps with choke points, which further emphasize the importance of positioning.

Stacking:
“Actually, stacking is a thing precisely because positioning doesn’t matter. Remember, you’re technically getting hit when you dodge or when a single Guardian aegis tanks a hit for the whole party. It’s because of these mechanics that players are allowed to stand in asinine positions, face into a wall, nestle right inside of enemy attack hit-boxes and still melt targets down without taking any damage (or at least not dying).”

Even though you are technically getting hit, positioning is vital to stacking. If it wasn’t then a group could stack in the center of the room and be fine. But that simply isn’t the case. The reason for stacking is shared boons, and positioning. While stacking in a corner, tightly against a wall, it limits some of the abilities of what an enemy can do. Do you remember the Spider Queen pre-nerf? You could kite her into a corner, and stack and kill her with minimal effort. The reason was, that when she was attacking in the corner, there were some attacks that wouldn’t happen, or have dramatically lessened effect. The whole point of stacking is about positioning. Staying tightly together, to share benefits, and to limit enemy movement and options. It’s something that has been done historically by nearly every army in the world since the dawn of warfare.

Movement:
“The guy who is going to get there faster is the guy who has teleports or scripted movement abilities; not swiftness. If we’re talking about PvP roll-outs, the whole team is going to collectively stack some level of swiftness at the start of the game. Once those people with swiftness reach a designated combat zone, movement slows down into irrelevancy beyond twitchy teleports (which isn’t even really player movement since the server is the one moving the avatar at that point).”

What do you mean by “scripted movement abilities”?

Erasmus: Allow me to retort…

PvE:
“Modes in which the AI is easily read, possibly even stationary, attacks incredibly slowly, and can be baited into entirely too advantageous positions for the players with effectively no effort. Swiftness can be useful for moving from place to place, but it’s hardly necessary for combat (especially with movement skills and teleports around).”

Swiftness may not be “necessary” while IN combat, but as you said, it’s “useful for moving place to place.” Which is the entire point of swiftness. Being able to move from place to place quickly. It certainly is helpful when kiting enemies to certain locations, or moving out of ranger of a specific attack quicker. So it does have it’s IN combat uses, as well as outside of combat.

WvW:
“Actually, given that no one is necessarily tied to extremely small, glowing circles in order to get anything done, WvW has a pretty decent set-up for combat positioning. Again, however, swiftness never cuts it when competing against any normal ranged combat tool that any player uses. Whether it be teleporting, scripted movement abilities, the occasional super speed, or just regular ranged attacks (barring a very select few or the situation in which both players are just attacking from absolute maximum range and the projectiles in question actually have their own scripted flight path instead of just bee-lining and bending to a selected target), swiftness will never compete with the mundane tools of combat “movement” in GW2 and will never help a player to quickly regain “good positioning” once it is so casually compromised by someone pressing often just a single button.”

So your saying that essentially swiftness is negated by ranged attacks? Because one can’t “outrun” a ranged projectile? Just trying to be clear.

“This is another group-related thing. The blob will provide itself with swiftness rather than individuals necessarily constantly worrying about maintaining their own private stock.”

It doesn’t matter HOW the swiftness is supplied. The point is the blob that is the fastest to the target stands the best chance. In attacking, its more beneficial to have the blob move quickly, to take that tower. The quicker they get there the less chance the defenders can defend. When defending, the quicker the defense can mount, the better the chances of staving off the attack. However, unless individuals within the blob are speccing for swiftness application to a group (that is, having to give something else up) then the blob moves slower. Swiftness isn’t magically applied to a blob just because. There is a reason people spec for it, even in a blob. It helps the blob move faster, longer.

“Technically, yes, but ideal defensive locations are obvious enough, the range of arrow carts is long enough, and their AoEs are large enough that pushing a concept of “optimized arrow cart positioning” is a little bit of a stretch. It’s most effective when fired from locations at which the user can attack unhindered for an extended period of time. Locations like that in WvW are incredibly obvious. While a zerg might be able to speed build a load of carts in the field and use them as artillery (which in theory is an interesting play which might require a bit of forethought), again arrow cart range and AoE size will carry them to effectiveness rather than “positioning.” Besides, a bunch of field carts would probably be overrun by another blob bathed in the standard protection, stability and passively regenerating health ticks.”

True, arrow carts Do have a large AoE, but as you said the key is to find a place where “the user can attack unhindered for an extended amount of time”. Which would strongly suggest that there is an optimal, and conversly, a sub-optimal, place in which arrow carts can be placed. Which means that the positioning of an arrow cart does in fact matter. One also has to consider Line of Sight when placing arrow carts and the like. Even with a large AoE, there are some places it just can’t shoot, due to not being in line of sight.

New ranger spot for teq

Ok, so I was doing Tequatl last night, and I noticed that the zerg stands right near his right foot during the initial burn.
I was playing my ranger, and got back and to the left of the zerg a little bit, and suddenly was doing double damage with longbow.
Had “Lead the Wind” trait equipped, which causes arrows to pierce. So I was hitting both his foot, and his head.

During the second and third burns, I went back to the same spot for double damage, and was hitting a total of ~34k with rapid fire (~17k each spot), with no might.

I think this may be my new spot for teq.

Check it out yourselves at let me know what you think. I was certainly doing much more damage back there, then up with the zerg on melee.

It’s been stated multiple times by the devs that player to player trading is NOT supported, nor is it recommended or encouraged.

If you do so, you do it at your own risk, and the risk of your friend.

The best way to do it, would be to sell yours, and let them buy theirs from the TP. It’s far less risky, and the best way to go about it.

  1. I also find it

For the umpteeth time, do not begin an argument with “I think” or “I find it” or “I believe.” Start with a question or an actual declarative statement about the established reality of your topic instead of a clause that highlights how what’s coming up is mainly just your opinion on something.

a meaningful buff to be able to move noticeably faster than other players. Especially in sPvP and WvW. I couldn’t imagine someone in either setting disagreeing on this point when positioning is so important.

Except positioning isn’t important in a game dominated by ranged attacks which don’t miss, instant teleport abilities, and the fact that instead of actually avoiding damage with WASD, players face-tank incoming damage, but pretend that they aren’t actually standing in a big red circle or someone’s cleave range only because the game is telling them that they are “evading,” or “blocking,” or “invulnerable.” While it is possible to attain “good positioning” in GW2, such positioning is so easily compromised by anyone merely pressing a button that the concept of “good positioning” is greatly contrived.

It seems that you are reducing the argument down to nit-picking. However, such statements of “I find” are valid arguments in a discussion. It implies that the one making the statement has actual, verifiable evidence that supports their statements. You could replace “I find” with “Evidence supports” or “Tests have shown” and achieve the exact same results. The ONLY difference is the formatting. One is first person, the latter is third. You are ignoring his point.

As far as positioning. Positioning IS important in GW2. It’s is used extensively in open world PvE, Dungeons, WvW, and PvP. If positioning didn’t matter then stacking wouldn’t be a thing. There wouldn’t be certain places on world bosses that take double damage if standing in the exact right spot. It wouldn’t matter where you place that arrow cart in WvW to get the most coverage. In PvP having the high ground on certain maps wouldn’t matter. Even with people ranging everything in open world PvE, positioning matters greatly. Longbow Ranger for example. The most effective use of the longbow is at 1500 range (Ranger longbow does the most damage the further back you are). That means, in order to be the most effective with a longbow, you need to “position” yourself as far back as possible and still hit your target. Also standing in certain spots to avoid attacks is key to certain fights.

So what does “Swiftness” mean for positioning?
Simply put, the faster one can get to the desirable position, the more effective they will be. If one can get to the double damage spot faster with swiftness and start doing damage before those without swiftness can, the boss fight becomes that much shorter. In WvW, those with swiftness can reach the keep quicker in order to mount a better defense and buy the keep more time, and allow for more reinforcements to arrive. In PvP, the faster one gets to a point, the sooner one can begin capping/de-capping, which leads to more points for your team faster, and less points for the other team.

True, if he got that one, he’d have to have someone in the US ship it to him. Bestbuy doesn’t ship international

However, he can search online for that spec and see whats available and the cost in his area.

Hello guys,

I’m using my laptop atm for Guild wars 1 and 2 and Dark Souls 2. The specs are:
- AMD/ATI 7970 2 GB
-Intel core i7-3740QM quad core processor(6 MB cache, 2.7 GHz, Turbo Mode 3,7 GHz)
-32 GB RAM

I have this laptop for more then 2 years already because of divorced parents… and the processors are getting louder and is heating itself up. The game still works fine at High-Specs, but sometimes i see the character, when its running, its running a bit slower and then back normal speed, but then a bit slower…

I’m planning to save money for to buy a new computer (no more laptops, i want a vast computer – desktop). My intention is to use this computer for Guild Wars 2 only (the only MMORPG i’m playing and i love it.

What are the best options about graphic cards and CPU?
I play quite a lot WvW, but also pve, with large scale group events, and pvp.

Is NVDIA better than AMD or it depends? I would like to play the game like Anet plays it haha with good graphs and no more laggfests.

About the budget i’m planning to save for the new computer, i was thinking about 1800 euro….

I’m curious about your reactions

Check this one out:

I just picked this up last week. It’s AWESOME AND AMAZING!!!
Been able to do everything on ultra graphics with no problems.
and at $1300 USD, it’s not a terrible deal.

You were probably looking at the temple armor from Grenth, which automatically includes Superior Runes of Grenth, which add to chill duration. You’ll see it, not only on heavy armor, but all armor classes and stats from that particular vendor. You can always replace the runes with the ones you want, but it’ll destroy the Grenth runes in the process. Which is fine, because warrior don’t really have access to chill anyway,

Keep in mind when buying karma gear, you can’t salvage it. But exotic level 80 gear all has the same stats as any other level 80 gear (depending on prefix of course) (i.e karma gear, crafted, dropped, etc.)

Getting karma gear is a great way to gear up your characters for cheap(ish). If you have the karma. Get the gear with the stats you want, and put in the runes you want. Depending on which runes you are gong for, it could be fairly cheap, to REALLY expensive.

If there is not a trade-off, then why to bother with this thread?

The point is exactly that: if there is no real trade-off when it’s justifiable to dip into permaswiftness, then it might as well be baseline. The fact that everyone gets it so easily when they want it anyway (even if it isn’t necessarily fully permanent) makes it nothing more than bloat for the sake of flavor.

But there IS a trade off. With my characters and their set ups I’d need to trade weapons/traits/utilities/runes in order to get the near permaswiftness thats apparently so easy to come by.

Facts:
Warrior: Axe, Axe/Longbow Valkyrie gear, eagle runes. HS, BoS, Precision Signet, BoD, SoR.
Limited access to swiftness at the expense of Long cool downs on banners and signet.

Necro: Scepter, Dagger/Staff, Rabid gear, Krait runes. Consume Conditions, Blood is power, Well of suffering, Well of Darkness, Lich form.
Extremely limited/no access to swiftness.

Guardian: Mace, Shield/Staff. Cleric Gear, Dwayna runes?. Receive the light, Hold the line, retreat, stand your ground, feel my wrath
Decent amount of swiftness. Need to use the right skills at the right times to keep it near perma swiftness.

Ranger: GS/Longbow. Beserker gear, ranger runes. Healing Spring, Sic ’em, Frost Spirit, Quickening Zephyr, Entangle
Limited access to swiftness.

Elementalist: Staff. Soldier gear, (Can’t recall runes)
Good access to swiftness with skills, and combos.

So If I wanted to have near perma swiftness on any of these characters I would need to change quite a few things around. The point is, you need to build each class a certain way in order to gain so much swiftness that it becomes irrelevant. So again, yes there is a trade off, and not one that everyone is willing to make in order to have that much swiftness.

Of I just got a new computer:
Asus G20AJ
3.6 GHz i7
16GB DDR3
2TB HDD
Nvidia GTX 960
Windows 10

Every time I go into Field of Ruin, I am there for 5-10 minutes, and my computer crashes. Windows Error Reporting shows that is was a critical power failure. However I can play for hours in every other map I’ve been on. This ONLY happens in Fields of Ruin. I have submitted a request, but I can’t seem to find any other instances of this happening. I was wondering if any of you have seen or heard of something like this? I would normally suspect a faulty PSU, but a faulty PSU, OTB (just got this computer a few days ago) seems unlikely.

Any thoughts?

p.s. Nvidia drivers are up to date. The latest release was 355.60 on 8/13/15

Marjory and Kasmeer are getting married!!!!

Why do I have a feeling that one of them will be horribly murdered right before/after the wedding?

That would suck, but it’s not likely. If they are planning on releasing wedding garb for the players, then the event would have to play out, and the celebration would have to commence. It would be a really crappy move to release wedding garb, and then not have a wedding/mar the wedding with one of the happy duo to be killed.. I think we’ll get to see them as a married couple for quite awhile before one of them dies toward the end of season 3, or maybe the beginning of season 4.

Marjory and Kasmeer are getting married!!!!

It’s the only thing that makes sense.
Think about it. In the US, same sex marriage was just legalized. Marjory and Kasmeer are a same sex couple…

Plus with the way they have been acting, and with the upcoming fight with Mordremoth, it makes sense that they, or at least Marjory, would want to get married before it’s too late. Marjory is still burdened with the death of her sister. and would feel the need to get married in case the same thing happened to her or Kasmeer.

Also please don’t rip an argument apart to twist the intention.

What is the intention? That bosses are too easy, and that a stat increase won’t change that? That mistlock instabilities won’t change it? I countered with a very reasonable argument, and that argument happened to rip apart your first argument. I still contend, that adding increased stats, and new abilities with instabilities will make the fight harder, without having to re-code the boss for each level of fractal difficulty. That would be 100 versions of each boss.

In the end, a longer drawn out fight increases the likelihood of failure. Which is why beserker is the meta. The idea is to take down the boss before he can take down you. I believe that with the new instabilities, as well as the increased stats, these same fights will become more difficult. When they launch I guarantee that you’ll begin to see a bunch of QQ about how the bosses became too hard and need a nerf. Just like the Spider Queen in AC. The fight was fixed to not allow stacking on the stairs, and that same day the QQs starting rolling in.

While it is far easier and faster to buy the items you want, you have to remember that doing so drives the prices upward. More people buying equals less supply. Granted there are thousands of people at any given time selling a few mats at a time, and just as many buying them (velocity).
It can be beneficial to farm for the particular mats you want. By doing a bit of research on the mob drop rates, and high concentration of mobs that drop said mats, one can save a bunch of money. But it does take longer.
But it’s not impossible. I farmed most of my T6 mats for my legendary, upgraded T5s, and used obsidian shards.

Since you did that, where would you recommend getting Armored Scales? And also I’m not sure if it’s worth it to promote materials right now because Crystalline Dust has gotten pretty valuable.

Also, I don’t really care what effect on the economy my individual actions have. It would take a very deliberate waste of a tremendous amount of resources for one person to make any measurable difference.

For armored scales try skritt in the nw corner of your home bl in wvw or skritt in dry top. Great source of scales.

At the same time it’s not much use just sticking more stats on an enemy. Look at the Orr Aborminations: They have a decent amount of vit/toughness and pack quite a punch in the power department. At the same time they are super slow with highly telegraphed attacks. If they had no skills whatsoever and the only thing they could do is walk after you and try hitting you those would be the easiest mobs ever. You’d simply kite them to death. Now comes a buff to the challenge, namely adding more vit and toughness + precision. Throw in some healing power maybe – They usually don’t heal, but more stats make it harder, eh? In fact the whole encounter would stay exactly the same it would just take longer.

From what I understand is the fights are “easy” because you can burn down the enemy quickly, which prevents them using many of their really deadly skills. Which is why Beserker is meta. You can dodge powerful attacks and kill them before they can use the super strong ones. So if thats the case, making the fight longer would actually make the fight harder, as the enemies now have a greater chance of using skills that are rarely seen.

Now, let’s give them a skill, their iconic charge. Suddenly players have to watch out, use dodges or blocks. Up the challenge even more by making the charge more reliable with a shorter windup and let’s say an AoE explosion at the end. Push it even further and the charge pulls in enemies within a certain range. With every change you change the dynamic of the fight. It might not last 5 minutes but you’d have to plan ahead (Can I stack here or will it just annihilate our group with the AoE now? Do we need range to overcoe a new mechanic? Is a certain playstyle less effective now?). This is stuff you can never ever achieve with sticking stats on a mob.

How do we know that some of the new Mystlock instabilities don’t do that exact thing? They are reworking old ones, and adding in new ones. It seems very likely that some of these will do just that. Add new and harder abilities to enemies, effectively changing the dynamics of a fight without having to rewrite the entire boss to do so.

So what happens when a boss has dramatically increased toughness to render most physical damage useless, yet with stacking instabilities that reduce the damage of conditions or convert them to boons or send back to the player, and unblockable/unreflectable projectiles, as well as a much higher health pool, and a 100% crit rate, with say, crits cause stun for 2 secs?

How would you defeat it? Especially since the fight time has been increased by say 3 minutes due to the added stats? (Granted I am just throwing out random instability effects that may not even exist to illustrate a point. We don’t know what the instability effects are going to be yet.)

The major complaint is that if you want to move to a higher tier sever for WvW, you have to pay? Am I getting that right?
Is it too much to open your wallet and pay the $25 bucks? Or whatever it is?
You don’t need to farm for gold, you don’t need to stop what you enjoy doing to make it happen.

@disco

How are you not able to play a game mode you paid for? Are you not able to access WvW? Is it blocked for some reason? Or are you just unhappy with your servers population and lack of interest in WvW? If it’s the latter, why should Anet solve the problem? They can’t force people to play WvW. They gave you tools to be able to transfer, but it comes at a cost. It’s been that way for a very long time, and they’ve also had opportunities to transfer for free. Why didn’t you take advantage of those opportunities? Is that Anets fault?

You know, why put up patch notes? I mean, they are lying in patch notes anyway.

They’re lying?

Yes, it has happened repeatedly.

My question implied a call for an example…

Taken from the July 29, 2014 patch notes:
BLACK LION TRADING COMPANY GEM STORE
New Items and Promotions
The new Home Portal Stone is now available in the Services category for 900 gems. Players can instantly travel to their home city instance and return to their original location on demand.
Mini Scruffy is now available in the Toys category of the Gem Store for 500 gems.
The Permanent Hair Stylist Contract is now a very rare drop from Black Lion Chests for a limited time.
The new Endless Monkey King Tonic is now a very rare drop from Black Lion Chests.

Taken from the October 29, 2014 patch notes:
Bug Fixes
Player animation for the Frost Wasp Logging Tool and Tireless Logging Minion was fixed so that players are not locked in place for a few seconds after the third hit.
Clarification: An error in previous release notes regarding the Permanent Hair Stylist Contract has been amended. The Permanent Hair Stylist Contract continues to be a very rare drop from the Black Lion Chest.

A mistake doesn’t mean a lie.

If for example you were asked about your activities last Thursday, and you stated that you had drove down to the Texaco gas station and put in $30 worth of gas into your car. But it turned out that you had gone to the Exxon instead, and actually put $28 dollars worth of gas into your car. Are you a liar? Or did you mistake the gas station, and the amount of gas?
