I’ll try those suggestions when I get home. Cheers. It seems very unlikely my browser got hijacked by a rogue program. No new installations during the morning of that same day. No new downloads. Virus definitions are always the absolute latest (BitDefender btw). Literally just started seeing this odd behavior when I ran netsh winsock reset.

If those don’t work, i will uninstall both Chrome and Bitdefender, then reinstall.

For some odd reason, I could not access the GW2 website from my home PC. I can play GW2 without a hitch. The launcher starts normally and downloads patches if there are any. However, whenever I try to go to GW2 using any browser on my PC, it always comes up with a “connection was reset” error.

This actually started happening when I did the command “netsh winsock reset”
If I use my Chromebook, I can go to the site without any errors. I am guessing it had something to with the command I ran the night before. I can rule out problems with my router or my internet connection because if I use another device (Chromebook, phone, tablet), I can get in without a hitch.

Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Still confused as to why people are saying it’s easier to get this skin now. Pardon my ignorance, but why is it easier after the April 15 patch? I know it takes a ton of Charged Lodestones in PVE. It isn’t required in PVP? How do the recipes compare?

Stats and gear for dungeon?

in Ranger

Posted by: theeagleeye.7693

theeagleeye.7693

Just my 2 cents. I have a fair amount of experience doing dungeons. (I own both TA and CoE armor sets )

1. Glass Cannon builds suck at PVE. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Successful runs are not based on whether or not you finish it. Success is based on how well you coordinate and how few times you die. The Attack-die-Waypoint-run (repeat 30x) formula for a boss fight is not a good way to do dungeons. Having said that, 15k health won’t cut it. I strongly suggest you get it up to at least 16.5k health. Try taking on CoE’s Subject Alpha and you’ll quickly realize squishy builds are completely useless. No use having so much attack power if you die in like 2 hits.

2. Your crit chance is overkill. From my test runs, and target dummy sessions, anything above 47% crit chance (and I’d dare say even above 45%) will gimp your other stats. You’re better off increasing your power, and in turn, your attack power for higher damage. I sit at 3,350-ish attack power IIRC. My suggestion would be to give up about 100-200 precision and pour it on Power and/or Vitality. And nope, I don’t have ascended gear yet.

Of course, I don’t consider my build superior to other builds, but it works for me. Try it out, and learn from our input. Hope you are able to make the ranger that fits your playstyle. Best of luck

You’re applying the “Legendary” description incorrectly. The item is the one that is Legendary, not the means to acquire it. :P

Then they might as well call precursors ’’legendary’’ and current legendary weapons ‘’extra legendary’’.

Because, according to you people, getting the precursor is what makes you ’’worthy’’ of one, and the other components are something any average Joe can gather.

That’s actually a brilliant idea. From now on, I’m going to call precursors Legendary, and the final product Extra Legendary. I love it when people like you come up with great ideas, tbh.

People don’t seem to understand what the term “Legendary” means.

People will never stop complaining. Putting in a system that will guarantee a Legendary item (recipe, 1000 tokens of each dungeon, or whatever) will diminish the Legendary status. Sure, I’m just like most of you. I want a Legendary weapon, but for me to say that I am entitled to it because I exerted hard work and time is an idiotic justification. There has to be luck in it too. If hard work and time are all it takes to get a Legendary, everyone will flood these forums saying that I put in hard work and effort and time, hence this game owes me a Legendary weapon.

Get over yourselves, please! /rolleyes

There is nothing legendary about throwing garbage into a mystic pool all day hoping to get the weapon component you need.

Longbow - Max Stats? Anyone higher?

in Ranger

Posted by: theeagleeye.7693

theeagleeye.7693

the 1500 range is a little overrated. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s very useful, but it’s not as awesome as I thought it was. You can’t stay at max range all the time, because you are also required to rez people, and a lot of boss fights, specifically in CoE (Subject Alpha) and the Golem boss, as well as the first boss of TA and Mesmer boss, you can’t completely avoid everything, and they hit hard (again, Subject Alpha).

Plus, if we’re talking about WvW, our shots can easily be dodged at max range, assuming they know how to dodge well.

Not saying that 20K health is the minimum :P that’s rather silly for a ranger, because they will kitten their damage :P But I guess that’s just me. I don’t like being squishy. I sit at 3350 attack, 92% crit damage, 47% crit chance, and 17k health. That’s with my incomplete CoE set. With my complete TA set, my crit damage is only at 88% iirc, and 47% crit chance, but with 17.6k health. Attack rating is about the same.

Calculating for the cap is easy. Just go all Berserker gear, including jewelry. Pardon me for not having the exact number, but I’m guessing it should be around 3.4k-3.5k attack, 55%+ crit chance, and 100%+ crit damage (I recall seeing a post that 120% crit damage is the imposed cap, though I am not entirely sure.)

Of course, it’s kind of useless to max out on pure damage, because you end up being extremely squishy. Not that helpful to have all that attack power if you’re dead or die easily.

Considering to try Longbow

in Ranger

I am a LB ranger. Have been since day 1, and I pretty much knew what I wanted. You see a lot of people giving the LB flack for its “pathetic” attack speed. Yes, they are absolutely correct that the attack speed of the LB is slow, but it’s not really just about the attack speed. IMHO, using the LB takes more skill than using a SB. For shortbows, it’s always easy mode. You press 1 and just move around, which I find extremely boring. Attacks faster, sure. But that’s about it. It’s only interesting for a couple of minutes, and you only appreciate it when you get to compare yourself to a LB ranger. Range is also a lot shorter than the LB (with the Eagle Eye trait). 1500 max range is extremely valuable. Before they increased the range of the Nightmare Vines in TA, I was always a source of consistent dps as I never died, while the rest of the group had to move closer so they can hit the vines, but constantly died and was too far away from being revived by my Spirit of Nature. I stood comfortably at the back, because my attack range was farther than what the Nightmare Vine can hit.

I also have some condition damage, as I use Sharpening Stone whenever I can. You get to dish out significant damage when you use Hunter’s shot first, which causes vulnerability on the enemy, then use Sharpening stone, quickening zephyr, Rapid fire, then Barrage. I run on full TA gear (not the full condition damage set), and all exotic jewelry. Attack power is at 3,350-3,400 (iirc), with crit chance of 47% and 85% crit damage. I’d want to get crit damage up a little bit more, but it’s just too fun to have 47% crit chance. Using the Superior Sigil of Fire on my Destroyer Longbow assures me an extra 1300-ish damage every time the flame blast AoE triggers – which happens a lot, since I have pretty high crit chance. Normally, Rapid fire goes up to 10-11k, and that’s not even using Rampage As One. Yes, when I say 10-11k, I know that’s the overall damage dealt by Rapid fire. :P

The most ideal would be a high power, high crit build, but that often entails you being very squishy. I’ve done some research, and if I go all power and crit damage, I’ll only be sitting at around 16k health, which I refuse to accept. If I had it my way, I’d want armor pieces that had power, precision, crit damage, and vitality, but that would be asking too much.) Just experiment with armor combinations. Each dungeon set has 3 variations anyway.

Ultimately, it depends on your play style. Both SB and LB have their strengths and weaknesses. I just jumped on this opportunity to throw in my 2 cents, because the LB has gotten so much flack, and people just turned a blind eye when it was time to criticize the SB. I highly encourage you to dedicate some time to learn the Longbow, and not be bothered too much about the attack speed. What’s the use of attacking fast, if damage per hit is inferior to a LB? I also completely disagree that the LB is a utility weapon. :P It isn’t. It’s one of the hardest hitting weapons in the game, if used correctly.

Best of luck, man! I hope you will learn to love the Longbow.

Why do you care if some dude spends hundreds of dollars on GW2 pixels? You didn’t spend hundreds of dollars on GW2 pixels so I’m pretty sure you came out ahead in the deal.

What is the point of playing to get rare items if rich people can just buy them from the start? It’s stupid – it would be like going to an amusement park – everyone pays the same $60 to get in. But the people who have $1000 gets to pay their way to the front of the line to go ride the Legendary rollercoaster, while the other 95% have to wait in a 500 hour line. Would that fly a Disney World? Hell no, it wouldn’t.

Flawed logic is flawed. Sigh.

If a person wishes to spend more money than you do in this game, by no means is he deteriorating your experience. If we use your cutting-in-line example, it would be wrong for another person to get some sort of special treatment if both of you stay at a non-Disney hotel, yet the other person will get priority access because he can shell out more money.

But for this game, if a person decides to shell out more money, I see nothing wrong with it, because him/her shelling out more cash does not deteriorate your experience. You’re not required to get a legendary weapon anyway, unlike gaining entry to an amusement park, which requires you to fall in line. If anything, you just sound like you’re a kid getting jealous at some other kid because he gets to eat Chef Gordon Ramsey’s burger, while you eat a Big Mac.

And just in case you forgot, there are no subscription fees for this game. ArenaNet has to make money for future content, right? Yeah, though so. :P

The fun factor is diminished because you play to get the gear as fast as possible, instead of focusing on just playing the dungeon and coming up with strategies, without thinking of just give me my God kitten token while running it.

Speak for yourself. I find the “fun factor” being diminished because I’m running the same freaking dungeon over and over and over again, rather than getting some variety by running the others. THAT’S the contradiction in the red post’s reasoning above. For a development philosophy that hates farming and grinding so intensely, they seem awfully fond of requiring farming and grinding.

It has nothing to do with wanting to be “handed” anything or “rushing to get the gear,” and if you stopped fanboying long enough to think for a second you’d recognize that. We’d still have to “work” for the armor, we could just spread out that work over a change of scenery rather than having to split up because Guildie A wants the CM armor, but Guildie B wants CoF and you want TA.

Apparently the highly-touted “social” aspect of the game needs to be sacrificed on the altar of the Holy Grind, instead.

LOL. Too bad you don’t think that way, and that’s probably the reason why you don’t have a full dungeon set. How is my post fanboying? Are we spitting out words that don’t make sense anymore, just to insult other people? I understand the point you are trying to make though, but tell me, how does that solve the problem of having people run the easiest, fastest instance for the tokens, just to buy an armor set from a different dungeon? You know very well this is going to be a problem, and don’t pretend that this isn’t going to happen.

Sigh. Another senseless thread asking for a having your cake, and eating it too solution.

So many players twisting the promise of ArenaNet. Stop complaining about dungeons being too difficult and monotonous. You’re rushing to get the armor, so naturally, you’ll have to deal with the consequences of doing it. Game is less than 2 months old, and people are already demanding something so unfair. One token to rule them all is the most self-destructive idea ever. As with MANY things in life, the good things often require patience and perseverance. YES, I agree that dungeons could use a little more work and fine tuning. But some of you need to get over yourselves and stop saying that it isn’t fun. The fun factor is diminished because you play to get the gear as fast as possible, instead of focusing on just playing the dungeon and coming up with strategies, without thinking of just give me my God kitten token while running it.

Stop acting as if your proposed solutions do not have the one fatal flaw that is so obvious, it’s literally staring at you. People generally want to get things done the fastest possible time, with the least amount of effort. You’d have to be an idiot to think that if there was just 1 dungeon currency, nobody would find the easiest and fastest dungeon to do.

One type of tokens for all dungeons

Posted by: theeagleeye.7693

What would feel unique is playing with your friends and feeling rewarded for helping your buddy get that unique armor or weapon while at the same time working towards your goal of a unique armor or weapon.

How is this any different from doing dungeons – at their current state – with your friends and guildsmen/women? How is this unique?

Did you even read my lengthy post? No I take it.
It allows us to run any dungeon anytime and allows us ALL to work towards the same goal which is unique armor and weapons, but with out having to grind out one dungeon for only one or 2 people at a time.

And you calling people stupid and morons really helps your closed minded cause a lot….

Yes I did, but some of the parts are useless because they’ve solved the problems of speed farming, etc. And yes, it has really degenerated to stupidity at this point, because there’s just no pleasing some people. They will keep complaining over and over and over again. This is a game for people who have at least some idea of what it is like to work for something. It can’t be all pure fun, because that type of fun only exists in games like Hello Kitty Online, or Second Life. :P You say that the unified token system will encourage players to seek out other dungeons and explore other paths, yet you don’t provide any evidence of such behavior. The moment people discovered the CoF speed run exploits, people started spamming CoF groups like there’s no tomorrow. Also, the moment people discovered the karma exploit before, they immediately took advantage of it, leading the ban hammer to come down on a rather sizable group of players. Let’s face it, people will always look for the easy way out. Your propositions and assumptions about player behavior are too Utopian and naive, sad to say. I wish you were right though. I really do, but that’s reality, and you know it.

Running around in Arah armor by constantly doing Ascalonian Catacombs is not something I will welcome. Ever.

My only concern is the sheer repetativeness of dungeon running.

I want:

x2 Swords
x1 Greatsword
x1 Staff

All from Twilight Arbor. The total token cost is: 1380.

A single run, yields 30 tokens with diminished returns if you complete all 3 to 20.

If I obtained the maximum tokens each time, I would need to undertake 46 runs.

Is that a lot? Probably, especially when there are only 3 routes. But, if you look at it from the perspective of doing all 3 paths once per day, taking 46 days isn’t a huge amount…

Still, it is agonisingly repetative.

This is more of a personal issue. Such things should be expected if you want too many things from one dungeon. The same way if a person wants to collect all the weapons and armor pieces from a single dungeon, he/she should be prepared for the long trek.

One type of tokens for all dungeons

Why are there so many stupid players asking for so many things? I actually feel bad for ArenaNet. It’s like no matter what they do, some of these players will never be happy.

If you don’t want to farm 2-3 dungeons, then don’t. You are in no way compelled to farm them. If you want something from those dungeons, then work for it. Game is barely a month old, and there are so many morons who want to have max level gear already.

Aba.6419

Why??
If one dungeon wiil be much more easier then rest a reward for such should be much smaller – simple.
ARENA.NET PLEASE DO NOT FORCE ME TO FARM 1 OR 2 DUNGEONS

Like this one.

Sure, the dungeons could use a little more work and fine tuning, but something as radical as 1 dungeon token to rule them all is absolute rubbish. Please, stop asking for a having your cake, and eating it to kind of solution. You’re clearly just twisting whatever ArenaNet promised you, just so you can cover up for your lack of patience and skill.

What would feel unique is playing with your friends and feeling rewarded for helping your buddy get that unique armor or weapon while at the same time working towards your goal of a unique armor or weapon.

How is this any different from doing dungeons – at their current state – with your friends and guildsmen/women? How is this unique?

I see one subtle problem here. The costume designers of this game are sokittengood, they’ve made everyone like the costume pieces. Almost all of them look stunning, and this is a bad thing because so many people are complaining how long it takes to acquire them, because they want to have them less than 2 months into the game. They are twisting what ArenaNet has promised about the game being less grindy. You are not compelled to grind anyway. A lot of rare drops and crafted gear look really awesome on their own, and they have formidable stats to boot. Even Order armor pieces and cultural armor pieces don’t cost a single token, and they’re even exotic (or rare?) gear.

I just really dislike some of these suggestions from other players. You’re asking for a having your cake, and eating it too type of solution.

I believe some people misinterpreted other people when they said “make tokens universal

- They probably actually meant universal for all their toons. i.e. the CM tokens acquired through my Elementalist can also be used by my new Warrior. – something I’m fine with. Other games had it, and it didn’t create a problem for the community, despite the initial opposition to the announcement.

OR

- 1 token currency to rule them all – completely idiotic. Get over yourselves, please! Stop suggesting something like this just to make up for your lack of skill.

I’m glad ArenaNet is actively thinking about making changes to their dungeons. I’m not the kind of person to complain about the length of time it takes to complete an armor set, but let’s face it, it certainly needs tweaks. I have no right to propose changes, because that’s not my job. I’ll leave it up to developers who have years and years of experience with game development.

I’m glad they’re thinking of increasing the token amount after dungeon completion. I think it’s one of the best solutions (but certainly not the only one) to remedy the problems that plague the dungeon system. HOWEVER, people should understand that casual players ARE NOT the same as players who are not skilled. I just don’t like the idea that some people are proposing that at the end of the dungeon run, you get a token to exchange for an armor piece. In effect, you just need to run a dungeon 7 times to complete the set, which is complete BS. There are casual players who are skilled, and casual players who go into dungeons not knowing what to do. I for one do not like the idea that players who lack skill will get the same rewards as someone who took time to study how to play his/her class, and play well with people. Get over yourselves, please! /rolleyes Not pointing fingers at anyone, but I’ve seen a fair amount of people discussing this idiotic proposition among themselves.

I guess people are twisting what ArenaNet has promised – that you can have awesome looking gear easier than other MMOs. There still has to be some effort, and awesome gear naturally requires awesome effort. Rewarding an armor piece per run is about as intelligent as eating donkey droppings. I’m so sick of seeing that kind of suggestion in these forums and other forums.

PS. I have no respect for anyone wearing CoF armor. You know why, nubs. :P

Long Bow or Short Bow

in Ranger

Posted by: theeagleeye.7693

theeagleeye.7693

It’s really a playstyle choice more than anything, I don’t think one is inherently better than the other.

This.

Short bow by far. The longbow dps is abysmal, the lowest of all the Ranger weapons. The Rapid Fire on the longbow does less damage than the auto attack of the short bow.

Not this.

It’s really up to you. Most people who dislike the Longbow never truly studied how to use it. Most people who dislike the Shortbow never truly studied to use it either. They just care about the very first number that pops up when you fire 1 shot of auto attack. Typical nub play, tbh.

Generally, I welcome these changes, BUT they still need some improvement. I like the level of difficulty, and I don’t really have any problems with working mykitten off to get those pieces of armor. I’m sick and tired of hearing people complaining like imbeciles about how ArenaNet took away their CoF speed runs. CoF is a fun instance, but it’s not the only instance I want to play. It was so hard to find a group for TA and CoE, because everyone was too busy cheating their way to get easy gold and easy tokens with very little effort. If you don’t call that cheating, then please get over yourselves. :P

It ruins it for other people who actually like to play, and not just make a dash to the finish line. It was never meant to be that way in the first place. I’ve never been kicked from a group because the idiot leader wanted someone who knew the speed run to begin with and didn’t even want to explain. That kind of immature, nub-level behavior isn’t cool at all.

I’m all for the recent changes, BUT PLEASE ArenaNetkitten if dungeons are going to be this hard, please make adjustments to the monetary rewards. I’m not asking for 1g each time I complete a dungeon, but I sure do hope it would be more than 20ish silver. -_-
