We’ve seen a few threads about display name changes, so I will add some information in the first post on this thread and in addition, want to post it here:
To those asking for changes to the Display Name: There are very good reasons why we do not offer the changes as a service at this time. It’s important in any game — and especially in an MMO with the high number and visibility of player interactions — to create a “personal history” for an account. I don’t mean your in-game “personal story” but a history of your account as viewed in the game.
If we allow changes of display names, a person who has been harassing another player will be hidden from that victim’s sight. A person who has built up a reputation for cheating, or botting, or doing other breaches of the UA, becomes invisible to those players who were aware of the issue and were awaiting action on the matter. Several other factors of “individual accountability” can be negated by simply hiding behind a new display name.
I take on board things like typos in making a name. But assessing the difference between a change and a correction can be difficult, and at this time, we’re holding firm on the “no changes” policy. There are two reasonable exceptions:
- An offensive name will be changed — once — and it will be changed by a GM using an anagram system, so the user does not get the privilege of choosing the second name.
- A display name will be changed to prevent the disclosure of personal information. For instance, the display name is the player’s real name or even email address. We have improved the account creation process to make it clear how display names function, and we even have expanded the User Agreement to accomplish the same objective. If players know that your display name is actually displayed in the game and on the forums, they’ll be less likely to use a name that poses a security risk. If they know that using an offensive name results in a randomly chosen name, they’ll be less likely — one hopes — to choose an unacceptable name.
Some of the same arguments about display name changes also applied to character names, but as you know, we made that option available when the feature could be properly developed. At some point we may make a feature available that allows a player to change his/her display name, but if we do, I am confident it will take into consideration all the risks of those changes, and address them effectively.
In the meantime, and with all due respect, we will decline to change display names unless they involve one of the two exceptions cited above.

I would love to make something like this for WvW so we can see where the different guilds are operating. Would this be ‘legal’ to make? Just positions for our allies.
Yes. I discussed this scenario with the WvW team, and they’re totally OK with this usage of our APIs.
Their only requirement is that player positions should not be posted publicly, since obviously it would then be used by opposing teams.
You made some really crude and racist comments. They were reported, confirmed, and a suspension was given. They would be considered offensive to any group of people, even if they included rude references to one specific race.
Suspension stands. Next time, think more clearly and use better judgment.

Great find and posts!
Thank you all!
No. That is NOT how this forum works. The team will answer you as quickly as possible, although the fact you made two tickets will slow the process (which is why we say, all over the forums: Do not created duplicate tickets.)
It’s not our intention to accept tickets and have someone immediately post in the forums to try to expedite their response. The response will come quite promptly, but no more rapidly for posting here.

Can you please attach a video link? We are not seeing an issue on Priestess or Champion Risen Wraith. The Wraith has that area attack that will damage over time, but player can stop damage by leaving effect area.
Thank you!

I do not see anything wrong with binding actions to more than one key or mouse button. As long as the process is not “auto-clicking” or giving multiple clicks per action (keyboard or mouse) then this reads as ok to me.

Without the 12-digit ticket number, I can’t look into this for you. Please provide that. If you have not submitted a ticket, please contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you. For tips on what information to provide in a ticket — mostly intended for security reasons to establish that you own the account — please read this post and provide as many suggested details as possible to expedite the ticket.

This is not an issue but rather a question, and since i couldnt find any releveant place to post this i decided to post it here. Forgive me if this is not where it is suppose to be, but i wanted to know is it possible to change your account name. I ask this because my account name is not relevant to my character that i own in game, hacked issues, and therefore would like to change it to a character that i do own.
An example would be in guild roster there is a name in grey next to the currently online player. I would like to change that grey name to a character that i do own.
Do you mean your display name or your account (log-in) name?

It seems that we get a few of these daily. Usually, “I meant it a different way,” or “I had no idea that [reallybadname] was really bad,” or “That’s not offensive at all!”
The name is not acceptable; it’s that simple. Looking at your account history, I simply offer that for names and in-game chat, please, choose wisely.

Anyone within earshot will hear you play the choir bell after the fix is patched in.
Thank you for posting this issue!
Correct, in chapter 3 you’re given several different story steps to try out different orders. You’ll be asked to make a final decision after the L26 story step.
The X/10 amount doesn’t include some system mails (event announcements, etc.) that will also prevent new messages from arriving. Clear out your mailbox completely, and give the mail system some time to deliver the new messages.
I just read a post on reddit where someone suggested a great idea that I had never thought of. I just wanted to post it here so that you guys can see it and get some more information about it.
The idea is to use the mumble link plugin protocol to get your character’s position from the game client, which could then be used to plot your character’s position on a map.
Guild Wars 2 supports mumble’s 3d-positional voice chat, which means that GW2 mumble users will hear other players relative to their positions in the game world.
The protocol is described here: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Link . An app would simply need to create or open the memory mapped file described in the protocol, and GW2 would automatically write the character’s position to that file.
Some implementation notes:
- The coordinate system used by mumble is slightly different than the game. GW2 uses inches (don’t ask), but mumble uses meters. So you’ll need to convert the coordinates back to inches for use with the map API.
- The game currently supplies the current map ID inside the ‘context’ binary blob. However, it doesn’t currently supply which floor the character is on or which interior the character has entered.
I’m not sure how the mumble server protocol works, but theoretically you could tap into the mumble client to get the positions of everyone else on your mumble server too.

Hi again everyone,
Not because there is Anet or a Dev/Staff member name in a post it has to be deleted, that is why it was stated that you should not try to grab the attention of the mentioned individuals. It is ok to post “Thanks, Anet” per instance or “Dev XXXX stream on SoTG”. Those are not trying to call the attention of the staff members. On the other hand, threads like this “To the forum Devs” “To Anet” To the Mods” are not allowed. Simply because while we understand that you want the attention your post deserves, it is unfair to other threads.
But these are the rules and the forums are not the place to contest them or discuss them. For any suggestions on the matter, please contact forums@arena.net.
Thanks for your understanding.

Hey guys,
we really understand that cheaters and exploiters are always frustrating to deal with and while do not have the feature to report said cheaters in game, it is much appreciated if you report possible cheaters or exploiters over at https://en.support.guildwars2.com/ providing screenshots, videos and any other evidence you can find. Please note that we are not able to confirm those cases to you, as it would violate our privacy policy, but rest assured that said reports will be dealt with.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
The repeated sectors are for personal story maps. Nemeton Grove, specifically, is also within “A Different Dream” and “Shadow of the Tree”, besides where it normally appears within Brisban Wildlands.
Right. The technical relationship between continents, floors, regions, maps, and sectors is a little bit complex. Each child object could technically be referenced by multiple parent objects. This gives map designers a lot of flexibility, especially when designing unusual maps.
We enforce some practical rules in our map content. For example, floors are only allowed to exist on one continent.
Hi everyone!
First, we would like to remind you all of the forum CoC – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/rules -. Please, whenever posting stick to what it says, as in this case, remember that it is not allowed to post trying to grab the attention of the Devs, Anet or any of its employees – as in, adding names or Anet to the thread title.
The moderation team is here for a reason, and if we see that some post does not comply with the forum CoC we have to remove it. It is not a matter of freedom of speech, you are free to say as you wish as long as it is done properly. It is a matter of politeness, of correction, of education if you wish. You can voice your concerns, your discontent or even your happiness here while adhering to the CoC.
The post you mention, if it was removed, I’m sure it was due to a reason. Also, please remember not to question the actions of the community team. If you think the actions taken by any mod were not right, please feel free to write to forums@arena.net and explain what happened, but never post about it or discuss about it, because it will most likely derail and turn the thread unusable.
For any other questions you might have, please feel free to write and contact us.
Thanks for your understanding.
Guess what? This is fixed. I’m not sure what release it’ll make it into since I just fixed it today. Its a pretty risky change, but I’ll do what I can to get it out asap.
A couple notes about the bug:
- It can affect ANY Necromancer (doesn’t matter when they were created)
- It can happen in ANY game type, PvE and WvW were just waaaaay more common because of certain circumstances
- This particular bug ONLY affects Necromancers. I noticed there was some speculation that it could affect a couple other professions
Thanks for all of the info and sorry that I didn’t look into this sooner. Also thanks for keeping on top of this issue in the forums, it keeps us in check
-Bill
It’s just for development purposes – having the tiles on localhost would keep me sane when i’m reloading my local dev page – i’m on a 384kbit connection, so it would take ages to reload and zoom etc… from a remote server.
I think you’d find it would take forever to download a zip file too — the total size of the maps is more than 5 GB, and it will likely grow in size over time.
The map tiles have cache headers, so you shouldn’t be having to download the tiles each time you reload the page.
Many of the events listed were added shortly before or after launch to make sure that low level zones could handle a large influx of players. They won’t become active if there aren’t enough players in the area. Over time we’ll look at lowering the scale requirements so they become more common, but GW2 is still in its infancy, so we haven’t adjusted them yet.
In Vivi’s case, watching the fireworks show was part of the requirement, but one needed to be present when the holo shatterer died. I can’t tell from the notes here whether that was the case, but one of the event designers let me know about that factor.
I’m sorry to say that we can’t send a helm or award missing achievements; at this point in time we simply don’t have the tools to do so. I am very sorry about that situation, and I hope we’ll be better able to help in the future.

First of all: maps API – pure awsomeness – thanks for that one!
Would it be possible to zip the map tiles and have them as a seperate download? This would make life easier for developers on a slow internet connection (like me… coughs)
What is your use-case for wanting to download all of the tiles vs. just referencing our servers directly?
Our servers will stay up to date with the latest map changes, etc.

We cannot “roll back” or restore accounts unless the account was compromised. That does not apply in this case — this issue is related to user error.
While I’m sympathetic about the issue, there is a process in place that requires confirmation of the character deletion. By the time one has typed in the name and indicated — for a second time — that the character should be deleted, we’re hopeful that the player has truly thought through the whole process , has done a “run through” of the character’s possessions, etc.
It might be nice to have additional “stop signs” on the deletion, but please note that some already are in place.

It’s hard-baked into the move function. Right now to two options are for the function to send a PM with the link, or not send a PM at all. We are looking into ways to improve the messaging functionality, but don’t have a set time frame for implementation.
Please update us on what you see. Can you please attach a screenshot?
Thank you!
The exploits reports archive is a hidden forum. We do not allow or encourage the posting of exploit details publicly on the forums. When somebody does post them, however, we move them into the hidden archive so members of the development team can have a look at the report after it’s been removed from the public space.
As always, we strongly encourage all exploit reports to be sent to exploits@arena.net. This keeps exploits details from being publicly available on the forums and reaches those who need to address the reports faster than posts on the forums would.
A new maps API was added, as well as a world map tile service.
These two services can be used together to create world maps outside of the game, and will serve as the basis for future map-based API content.
World Map Tile Service
The world map tile service provides game map tiles that can be used to present a world map outside of the game. The service is designed to provide tile data in a format compatible with Google Maps, Leaflet, and similar map libraries.
The basic tile format is described here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/overlays#Google_Maps_Coordinates
A tile can be accessed by constructing a URL in the following form:
https://tiles.guildwars2.com/{continent_id}/{floor}/{z}/{x}/{y}.jpg
A list of valid continents and floors can be downloaded using the continents.json API. The map_floor.json API contains useful information like the size of each floor, and bounding rects. The bounding rects define which tiles are available for download, as well as the area of the map that should presented to the user. Tiles outside of the bounding rect are not available for download.
The map tile service does not currently include map interiors, which are used to provide detailed overlays on some parts of the world map, such as when a character enters a cave.
Additionally, we’re providing the same fonts used for the in-game map for use on the web. These can be referenced through the following two URLs:
- https://d1h9a8s8eodvjz.cloudfront.net/fonts/menomonia/08-02-12/menomonia-italic.css
It’s allowed and encouraged to link directly to our servers so that you don’t have to download and host the map tiles and fonts.
A very rudimentary example of using this service is available here: http://jsfiddle.net/cliff/CRRGC/
(edited by Cliff Spradlin.3512)
Your ideas also would be a welcome addition to the Suggestions Forum, which is read daily by many members of the dev team.
I’m glad that the developers are reading our suggestions, but are the designers? Do the developers have the necessary sway to get our ideas implemented?
“Developers” includes designers. I use the terms broadly, so no worries. The answer is that yes, devs read the suggestions, be they designers, artists, programmers, or others.

Hi Nent – I’m going to go ahead and say that your video card is the cause of the issue here. If updating the video card drivers didn’t resolve the issue for you, the only other option would be to upgrade to a card that meets the minimum requirements. I can’t give any specific recommendations, though I will say an AMD or Nvidia card would be the better way to go for performance over Intel chipsets.
Hi Durneviir – Crash issues can occur for a number of different reasons so unless this were a widespread issue where a good majority of the players are crashing within the exact same circumstances this can be difficult to narrow down as something that requires a fix.
That being said, I’d start with sharing what troubleshooting steps you’ve tried in addition to perhaps a crash report (ArenaNet.log file, located in Documents\Guild Wars 2) in addition to your system specs.
Please use the Tech Support forum for this issue: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech
