Yeah I legit see no real reason why they can’t up the auto attack damage on the melee weapons.

Pretty bonkers they’ve left it for so long even after we’ve been able to work out how much dps we are really doing.

I’ve played sword for most my career as a ranger, I was pretty happy when they took away the animation lock that would some times get me killed.

If you’ve played sword as much as I have then you would have to agree sword 3 fails to connect way too often and sword 2 whilst it might be a good disengage really isn’t helpful for anything

I’ve played countless hours using sword and I so rarely end up pushing those buttons because using a dodge roll is more effective and you lose way too much damage.

Lets be real here, if you’ve used the sword a lot all you know its good for is doing raw damage and it even fails at that to a degree. 2 + 3 are really good for hardly anything.

If I want to evade the great sword really does outshine it due to the auto attack chain, even if you can’t fully control it the up time just beats out the sword.

Being nimble and quick might be fun but it really serves no purpose in a game with dodge rolls unless you need to evade 4 times in a row which seems a little over the top.

I’m not crying for a damage boost, I’m crying for sword 3 to do something more than be a glorified dodge roll charge and for sword 2 to be more than…..a glorified dodge roll

As long as I’ve been playing ranger I’ve always wanted sword to work, it does to some stretch but the sword skill 2 and 3 have always bugged me.

I’m going to start with skill 3 – This skill has never worked and never will work. If something moves a slight distance it doesn’t connect. If something doesnt move a slight distance it still might not connect. Aside from an extra dodge there is no reason to hit this button and half the time it just puts you some where you don’t want to be.
This skill has been useless for 5 years and is going to still be useless.

Can we please for the love of god just get it made the same as the last hit on the great sword chain? or something. Even if it became an aoe evade swipe that throws poison on I highly doubt that would break balance but it would make the button some what worth pressing.

Sword 2 almost works but it just seems a little whack to jump back then forwards – its worse that the forward jump suffers the same problems as sword 3 because it hardly ever connects.

Ive got 2 fixes to this, the first is reverse the skill so it’s a gap closer (you know like every other sword has) or reduce the dodge from the first part of the strike.
Pretty sure you could add some kind of pet buff with this skill too and not break a power budget.

Make the darn sword more usable and not just an auto chain spamming weak old power weapon!

Stealth should be our kitten f3 so we can access short bow, S/P and PP outside of having to drop a utility slot on it.

Thieves should be MVP stealth.

WoW and Old Replublic have armor sets for their DPS classes that increase their lifepools, their resistances to certain effects, and some of their attributes serve both offense and defense (e.g., agility increases a rogue’s attack damage and their ability to dodge).

That’s called power creep my friend and no rogue stacks agility because it was going to make their dodge chance go up, it was to make bigger yellow numbers splat on their screens.

You know what you put in blue gem sockets? Red gems, agility gems, for damage and ignore the crappy stats. Getting resistances for things died in BC after MS in black temple, you ain’t fooling me.

(Rogue was a main for years and years)

You know for a fact aside from resistance gating there was no encounter in the game where you’d throw on a HP set.

Got the first boss down today,

I was running full exotic clerics (ooh I’m a sinner), Staff and longbow. Had water runes on and some water sigil and another crappy one.

I used healing spring although now I regret not using the glyph, frost spirit, Glyph of empowerment and glyph of the tides for the knock back. Use the nature spirit too.

A few traits I found really super dope were Quick draw (Had to get spotter up for the group), quickdraw can really nuke out some healing when kitten hits the fan because you blow avatar, use one 4 or 3 or w/e then its cooldown is super small.
search and rescue was pretty handy in nature magic and invigorating bond had a nice dump heal too.
Celestial shadow was really strong, I had enough heals so this was good to provide some quickness uptime and we didnt have a chrono. Grace of the land is almost a must have, blow you avatar 4 and bam, 15% more damage for everyone around you.

Hope that helps a little, I’ll try and update after the next boss tomorrow.

and by the way team, I don’t know if you all have raided in other games but they usually might have 2 healers, 2 tanks and 6 dps.

In this we’ve got 1 tank, 1 healer, a class or maybe two dedicated to buffing, a kitten load of stuns, a chrono for buffs and a few other odd bits.

I raided in WoW for ages and when I would dps I don’t think I ever had anything that didnt give me max damage. You’d skip massive survival talents just to make kill happen faster, GW2 has followed the same formula.

Listen to this, because they’re facts:

For the way the Vale Guardian (that’s all I’ve fought as of yet) is setup, the enrage timer disallows for build diversity among players in the raid.

You cannot have more than 1 person running a fully defensive or defensive support build. You will run out of time and die. Furthermore, you can’t even have people who want to go hybrid. Everyone is either maximum DPS or it’s a failed run. There’s a long list of players who won’t be able to beat this raid boss simply because their build doomed them from the start.

A team of Berserker’s, Knight’s, Nomad’s, Sinister, Clerics, etc is diverse. It will also never beat the raid, which is sad.

ArenaNet said they were attempting to promote more build diversity but this enrage timer does the exact opposite.

Now, I’m a fantastic player. I’m super great. But, I’m very limited in the raid groups I can even attempt to join. I play a tanky healing druid in full ascended Nomad’s gear. I don’t DO DPS. I never die, ever. I picked a stat set that played to my personal strengths and I’m very successful with it. But, I can’t join ANY groups that already have anyone else who’s in even the slightest amount of defensive gear because the timer will go out and we’ll all die.

Me, with my 26k HP, 2700 toughness, near infinite heals and ridiculous hand eye coordination; destroyed because everyone else instantly died because an arbitrary timer reached 00:00.

Roll Berserker’s or Sinister or Viper’s, right? The problem I have with that is…that I don’t enjoy playing that type of character. If I were forced to pick between 1-3 preset builds that have a chance of completing content I’d just uninstall the game and start reading more books. I enjoy what I built and what I built, provided I’m really good at it, should have a decent shot at completing any form on content.

I’ve never complained about about something being too difficult in my life, because I know that if I can’t do it I’m just not good enough yet. The thing with this raid is, I’m more than good enough. I’m just not allowed.

In my opinion, the timer needs to be gotten rid of entirely. I should be able to put 10 people in Nomad’s gear in a raid and have a chance at winning. It’ll take all day but it should still be possible.

I see the raid as the great homogenizer. It’s the great machine that makes people give up every stat set except the few that stand a chance in the raid. That’s poor design. A homogenizer is the exact opposite of a diversifier.

Sure I could say, “what the heck, I’ll just go full glass and invite only full glass and play like that”. But, I don’t want to. So, if I have to, I won’t play anymore.

I’ll continue to attempt it with the groups I go with, but I don’t see any real hope for beating it until the timer is either increased or removed all together.

Maybe you’re results and experiences are different. But I’m talking about mine.

Full cleric druid reporting in to say we killed the boss with 36 seconds left on the enrage timer and had a couple of things that limited our DPS time.

We never had any problems with DPS the whole time and we just wiped to mistakes.

I’m not the best playing in the world and no doubt from that write up your skill goes beyond even mine, however I did notice I spent most my time healing and making sure everyone was topped up so nothing could go wrong (downed players do hella less damage) so I really don’t see why you think you can’t run some defensive stats. The only time I’d try to do DPS was on the split phase when we were burning it through anyways.

I’ll have to do second boss tomorrow and see whats different and report back.

I didn’t know dodges were suddenly disabled. God these wvw players think pressing 1 all day makes them immortal.

It’s mad easy to stun someone when you target switch or just anything. Maybe in a 1v1 but this isn’t a 1v1 game.

I’m a warrior and I know it’s stupid. You can cry “omfg just use stun breakers u nub” all you like but they really just delay a slaying. Miss one stun? wait it out with shield block and mace block, miss it again or get stun broken? great sword off into the distance for a few seconds.

No warriors stun bots, just no.

Condition builds would suffer and you wouldn’t enough healing. Bad idea bro.

Don’t believe me? How often do you land a 10k 100 blades. That’s 1k hp. You’ll never get enough unless you’ve got 100% up time on your target.

Passive healing is the best healing and its one of the things keeping warriors breathing.

Last time I saw a full zerker warrior against 5 people, he got cced and kited to death and could not do anything, he was down in 4-5 seconds because he couldn’t press his abilities fast enough.

I often wonder if the fault is with the player and not the class, from what I’ve seen from good warriors they’ve walked around the god almighty path of sustain and managed to be quite successful with out it.

I just don’t get how so many can turn what we have into something productive whilst a bunch of us sit down and scream one word at the computer screen hoping it will fix it. “SUSSSSSSSTAAAAAAAINNNNNNNNN” They weep as they get pounded on and killed knowing little that if they had that god almighty sustain they’d just die 10 seconds later.

Well if you’re a power build you should be to distracted by the big crits final thrust gives, if you’re condition damage your auto attack his likes a wet noodle and should be happy your bleeds get applied faster.

Do some math. The AA is still doing same dps in power build, and probably more in condition.
Final thrust should only be used on targets below 50%, even in power build.

Dude look up the old chain. It obvious you didn’t use sword before this patch. They actually lowered the dps of the chain. All the skills in the chain currently do the same damage. In the old chain final thrust did double the damage of the first 2 skills in the chain (actually a little more than double). The nerf to the sustained DPS can be felt in both condition builds and power builds due to the fact that direct damage is part of each build. The current final thrust is on a 15 second CD. It does not make up for the lost damage.

You do some math. Old chain took 1.75 seconds to execute. Where the third skill did double the damage of the 2 preceding skills. If you could consistently pull off the chain you have to figure out how much damage your losing compared to the old build over a 15 second period. I am not doing the math for you (your previous statement indicates your good at it). I will tell you this we lost sustained DPS in this change and quite a bit of it.

to add insult to injury the thief auto attack chain still does double the damage on the third hit (actually the power coefficient is higher on Crippling Strike than the rest of the chain so it more than double) Cripples for 2 seconds and weakness for 2 seconds. Mind Spike does not cripple or weaken and doesn’t do double the damage of the 2 preceding skills in the chain. However, it rips boons and does 50% more damage to targets without boons.

Does this all seem really balanced to you? Does it even make sense?

I am not interested in some frivolous argument. The math is there and anybody who understands what just happened would realize we just got a sustained damage nerf on sword. Truly hilarious.
