Sooooo

With all of the “convenience” passes going around ( Captain’s airship, Mistlock Sanctuary, the list goes on)…

Any chance of revamping the Eye of the North to sort of be a…fortress of solitude for the player character, with all the amenities that comes with the convenience passes?

C’mon…who wouldn’t want that!?

Kalla Scorchrazor? Really?

in Revenant

Brian.6435

There was lore about Kalla in the base game? I’m not trying to be a kitten here, but I played the first game and the expansions and don’t remember her at all.

Which brings me to the point I wanted to make. The Legendary’s we choose from now we have some connection with if we played the original series. Kalla on the other hand, unless you read about the lore after EotN, should leave you scratching your head saying…who?

Not saying I have anything against Kalla, but to me there’s a lot more choices out there that would have made sense at the moment. Like others have said MAYBE it’ll be explained in the story. The teaser did begin with Rytlock starting to explain what happened to him in the mysts.

Regardless, I was thinking about it again this morning and I would have really liked it if they chose Eir Stegalkin as the new Legendary. She has a direct connection with the player character, uses a bow, and would have been a nice homage to her death as a way to live on.

Brian.6435

No.
Also, the other Especs (Firebrand, Scourge) are supposedly themed over the idea of rebellion (against Joko/the current rule) and the likes of Kalla do fit in with that “renegade” theme. She did her part in the rebellion against the Flame Legion caste (the Charr rulers of the time), so it does make sense thematically that among others of a similar inclination, that she is included.

However, I would have preferred it to be Pyre seeing that he helped spark this rebellion and the “Charr need no gods” philosophy in the first place (and we ARE going after a God, which would be a perfect way to “exercise” that motto), while his Grandcub was a part of the crescendo of what he set in motion. Even his memorial says that the Charr owe everything they are to his actions…why his Granddaughter was chosen over him, I cant quite grasp.

Turai was known for defeating Joko, yes, but imo he was far better known for his hunt for (and failing) ascension during his pilgrimage, but staying behind to help others reach ascension as a ghost All while his line eventually fell into servitude with Joko after his passing and Joko's subsequent second takeover or doing other kitten able things like Varesh and Nightfall.

That’s all fine and dandy for Charr heroes. But what really makes them special? At the end of the day…they were still just Charr. The thing all the other Legendary aspects have in common is they’re beyond just regular people. Jalis became the great stone dwarf. Shiro was a general of abaddon and responsible for the jade wind cataclysm. Glint was a Dragon. Malyx a margonite Lord. Ventari….basically responsible for cultivating the Sylvari.

Kalla Scorchrazor…grandcub of Pyre…responsible for a charr rebellion … oh ok. I don’t know man, maybe for a regular stance for revenant, but for an ELITE spec? C’mon.

In reference to the legend chosen for the Renegade…it just makes no sense. What does Kala Scorchrazor have to do with Elona and why would she even be considered to be among the ranks of Jalis Iron hammer, Glint, Shiro Tagachi etc?

It would have made so much more sense to use someone like Varesh Ossa or Turai Ossa as the rev’s new legend.

The rewards from these story missions aren’t such that you could exploit it somehow. You could easily just run events and get as much loot if not more…but why get NOTHING if you WANTED to do it again or maybe with a friend who’s doing it for the first time? Do you get NOTHING for running a dungeon again? Do you get NOTHING for doing pretty much anything else in this game again? So why should the story missions be any different?

Inspiring Reinforcement 3 second cast time

in Revenant

Posted by: Brian.6435

Brian.6435

I was just thinking of this and came to make a topic on it and saw yours.

Now I come from strictly a PvE standpoint, but yeah Inspiring Reinforcement is a great field, but takes way to long to place down. Prior to getting Herald I used it with hammer and mace to give myself aoe swiftness, and it’s just a hassle to have to wait for it to be completely placed to get the full effect, and even in PvE it’s very easy to miss with this attack.

I would like to see the placement time cut to about how long it takes to use Coalescence of Ruin.

I personally would rather see this skill pulse Chill instead of weakness to enemies, OR add cripple to the weakness effect. Something to keep the enemy in place of the field.

So, just to be clear, I’m in a guild right now with a close knit group of people, but it’s small and we don’t run guild missions much, so i’m looking for an second guild that has access to guild weaponsmithing 2 and runs missions a lot so I can gather up more guild comms and craft shimmering weapons.

Hawk and Eagle F2 ability

in Ranger

Brian.6435

It’s called, “Quickening Screech.” Wouldn’t it be nice if it gave AOE Quickness? Just sayin’.

Quickening Screech is Aoe, it effects 5 nearby allies.

I’d love the change, but then Owl and Raven will still have the annoying swiftness in combat.

Yeah I think Owl and Raven should have swiftness removed completely and replaced with something else. I think Hawk and Eagle having swiftness as their signature moves makes sense because they’re supposed to be fastest birds of prey in the world.

The only reason to pick a bird pet is for the burst on demand. The F2 attack of the bird is the best way to activate traits like “wilting strike” and “beastly wardn”. Making the strange swiftness move an F2 will just make this pet usless. We have so many ways to get movment speed out of combat….

The problem is using f2 every 4 and quarter second isn’t something practical. 9/10 minutes I’m too busy looking at the battle and watching my utility skills, weapon swap c/d, and weapon c/d’s to even remember to hit my f2 skill. It should just be an auto attack for that kind of recharge OR change the effect to be more severe and increase the recharge time. But I personally think there’s already too many pets that apply bleed with an f2 skill, putting swiftness there and moving it’s current to one of it’s auto attacks would make it at least a little different.

Quickening Screech would be nice if the bird didn’t sit there for five seconds flying around doing figure-8’s while you try and convince the *&^%$ing to attack when you need it to.

That’s one of the biggest issues I have as well.

I would like to propose changing the Hawk and Eagle F2 ability to be it’s swiftness skill, and changing it’s 2 stack bleed to one of it’s normal attack’s.

I think it would be much more useful outside of combat, as well as being far less annoying to see my bird waste 3 seconds casting swiftness whilst in combat instead of attacking.

Spike trap 36 second recharge

Fire trap pulses 3 times for its duration.

You can use Fire trap 3 times to Spike traps one. I put one trap in my utilities, I have no reason to pick anything but fire trap, even if i have a bleeding build, because 3x use of fire trap is always going to be better than 1 spike trap.

What is the reasoning behind this 36 second recharge?

Some things I hope to see in 2016 pertaining to building on what’s already there. Probably never happen but here goes:

- Better graphics
deeper more epic looking skyboxes. Big rolling clouds and starry filled night sky’s. The sky’s for 90% of the maps in tyria are very dull and the clouds just DO NOT look right. I think Bloodtide coast and Diessa Plateau are the only 2 maps that have good looking sky’s to them.

Shader options
Contrast slider
Improved texture packs

The game is just starting to look dated to me. Well it’s been looking dated for a while now to be honest.

-Custom player homes
I want to be able to completely deck out my home instance to look and feel unique to me, I’m talkin street and environment decorations, npc’s and vendors that you can find in all the major cities, and my own personal house that I can fully customize with wings, furniture, npc’s, and decorations.

HoT = Burnout

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Brian.6435

I think progression is the big issue. People feel a need to complete things and it feels like masteries are levels they need to gain to make their characters complete. When you think about the main game, you were level 80 through the main story at least a few missions even before the final one. In HoT you gain maybe 1-2 levels of each tier by the time you reach the end of the expansion, leaving so much more crap to to gain, but what incentive is there to do this stuff really, except to show off your kitten? Leveling up masteries shouldn’t be the focus of the content, just like leveling to 80 wasn’t for the main story. But that’s how Arenanet has designed it this time around.

So far I can’t even tell what I’m supposed to be doing for these events though, it’s like crates of supplies are scattered everywhere and you dump them off at supply depots? But the supply depot’s are like 20 miles away sometimes…and I keep getting killed by 20 mini raptors while I’m running around with these crates…I’m just confused as foo.

Faction Rep

What is a game without grind? A game you play through once. Seriously, think about it. Anyone that thinks adding more interaction with factions to the game would just create more droning gameplay are very narrow minded people. My idea is just a spark, I don’t know what Arenanet could ultimately do with the factions, but I believe SOMETHING should be done with them, ultimately it’s up Arenanet though.

But on the topic of grinding, c’mon people, you already do nothing but grind in the game one way or another. Dungeons, pvp tracks, events, whatever…it’s all a grind no matter how you look at it. Unless you play video games to play through the story once and never touch it again, then you must enjoy grind to some extent, that’s basically what mmo’s are.

Faction Rep

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brian.6435

Brian.6435

This is probably the only MMO that doesn’t utilize this in some way, I assume because there’s no real quests in the game, but I think it could still be viable.

The main story of the game features 3 factions, which you join one and then after Fort Trinity is established it’s sort of brushed aside, but why not make them have some more purpose? The way I look at it, the three factions are a greatly underused asset Arenanet has in their game. They could add cool new weapon skins, armors, and other kind of faction items to each one, and basically have a number of different ways of raising your reputation so that you can buy cooler rewards from these factions the higher rank you are. I’m not trying to instigate a grind, but hey I think it would be a nice passive reward for doing an event for example. If you joined the priory for instance, and you notice an event taking place…well now you have more of a reason to DO these random events instead of over look them just because you’re level 80, as completing them would raise your faction reputation. Other things like just doing sPVP could raise rep too.

Been playing a lot of Destiny lately, so that sort of sparked this idea, but show some support if you think this is a good idea.

Spirit Ranger

Brian.6435

So do you guys think it’s more viable now?

I know in the last Ready Up video i watched when they were demoing the new trait system they said they wanted Spirit’s to be better but not mobile. I think they’ve definitely stepped in the right direction, the buffs (especially with nature tree maxed out and traited properly) really offer nice boons, especially to your pet, but still the main problem I feel with Spirits is the amount of time it takes to lay them on the battle field.

The weird thing is, in under water combat they’re instant cast… so what’s the deal, why not make them instant cast on land or at the very least make the cool down time only 10 seconds instead of 20.

I love the idea of using Spirits, and for the most part I think they work decently, but I can’t really say I’ve tested it extensively in boss situations or dungeons.

My three main suggestions to making them seriously viable would be this:

Make the spirits immune to damage
Make the spirits instacast
Make the recharge time even less what it is now

Now suggesting that all three of those be implemented would probably be ridiculous, but hey, if any one of those three were taken into consideration I’d be happy.

What’s everyone else’s thoughts?

Dungeon Story's made soloable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brian.6435

Brian.6435

Arenanet please hear me out. I was thinking about this yesterday as I had nothing I really felt like doing in the game, so I just decided to go poke around in Caudecus Manor by myself in story mode. Now I’d just like to say I’ve been playing GW2 since it was released, I have 6 characters all level 80 and the Dungeon Master title, so I’ve played my fair share of the game, so don’t think I’m trying to make a complaint about dungeons being too hard or the fact that I don’t like social interaction. I’m simply asking for a second look at how the dungeons should work.

First off I love RPG’s, I’m a huge Elder Scrolls fan, and anyone that’s played them knows how detailed the environment is (picking up books, looting dressers that sort of the thing), and because of my experience in those types of games, I find myself craving a detailed level of interaction in my favorite MMO. So it’s not that there isn’t one there, but the way that the story mode in dungeons is set up right now can sort of limit you from that, unless you have a very specific group of friends who enjoy playing exactly like you, but not everyone has that luxury. So what will more than likely happen is you’ll get into a group, and then you feel this pressure to just get through it and not waste anyone else’s time, skip the cutscenes, skip the dialogue, not really know what’s going on, because let’s face it, 3/5 of those people probably just want to complete it so they can have explorable mode active on that character. If that’s all you want, then that’s fine, but I think a lot more people would be happy with the dungeon stories, if they felt a better connection to them, which I feel could be better achieved by making them soloable.

The story modes for the dungeons are sort of like branched stories to the personal story, right? But what always irritated me about them is that, if you’re in a group of people and you’re not the instance owner, you have some random goober you don’t know playing the main protagonist and filling in the cutscenes. I want MY character to be the one who’s helping out in this particular scenario and not just some tag along nobody, hence…soloable dungeon story’s. Now I’m not saying do away with being able to create a party for dungeon story’s but the option should be there in my opinion.

So what would be so bad about this idea? I would like to see there still be challenge to the story dungeons, maybe a regular story mode and a hard mode (still soloable) but much like in GW1, have your npc allies be useful! Oh! what a concept! Who knows maybe even let us control them in the same fashion as GW1 Heroes? That would be amazing. There’s a lot more good that could come of this as well. For example new daily achievement: Complete Dungeon story mode, Complete Dungeon story mode in hard mode? You could even make leaderboards and a scoring system for the competitive types out there, see which players can finish a dungeon the fastest and let them record a run, much like how in pvp you can have a spectating room.

The main reason for me personally though to be able to have Dungeon Story soloable is just so I can play through it, get rewards, and enjoy it AT MY OWN PACE. Sometimes I like to roleplay a bit and put my character into /walk mode and talk to every npc, I should be allowed to do that without being pressured by my teammates to hurry it along. Look we’ve got 3 paths to every dungeon in explorable mode if you want to gather with a party and beat a dungeon, which, on a side note I’d like to add I’ve never watched ANY of the cutscenes to any dungeon explorable in fear of simply being kicked from the group…honestly. Is that really what Arenanet had in mind when they designed the dungeons? Let the story mode be something a little different I say, and let those who want to enjoy the work that was put into the dialogue and cutscenes be enjoyed.

So if anyone agrees or would like to add anything please show your support to this topic.

Thanks all.

Event incentives

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brian.6435

Brian.6435

The amount of money earned per event needs to increase. It’s as simple as that.

Let’s face it, the driving force for any reason of doing something in this game has become, how much money can I make from it and how quickly can it be done? Look at Silverwastes these days, it’s pretty much nothing but a chest farm train 24/7. Why? Because people can make a ton of money just running around opening chests, why do the VW when this is more lucrative. Not two months ago VW was popping off once like every hour or so.

My point is, I like doing events, but when you see the reward from them and the amount of time some of them can take for doing them it’s pathetic, you lost more money on a waypoint than you gain on doing a 5 minute escort or whatever.

I know it’s time consuming and Arenanet will much rather be focused on HoT than something like this, but not all events should yield the same money reward.

For example, if I like to run around Orr with my geared level 80 and happen to see an event nearby, what incentive do I have to do it? Honestly, if it’s a long escort, 90% of people will probably ignore it unless they’re trying to level up. Now if that event was 5 minutes long with a 10 or more silver reward with it at the end, I’m sure a lot more people would be inclined to run up do events as soon as they see them.

I’m not trying to say events are dead by any means, it’s just in a game where making money is all people really care about at the end of the day, I think it would help increase the chance for people to play the game it was meant to be played if the events carried more incentive for people to do them. Right now, unless it’s a champion or world boss with some kind of loot chest, it’s not worth the time.

Hopefully Arenanet will take this into consideration, but I feel like I may be beating a dead horse here, with HoT on the focus, and the fact that this has been requested since the beginning of game, I don’t see anything changing, but you know, it just irks me when I’m running around a level 80 area, do an event and see a whopping 1.4 silver as a reward.

Change it so it doesn’t look like a slow moving energy ball of electricity. Does this bother anyone else or is it just me? I mean, it’s lightning, it should be instantly zapping the target and then bouncing within a fraction of a second to the next 2.

Obviously some adjustments would have to me made so that it’s power remains the same as it is now, because it would make for faster attacks, which I think would also make for more interesting gameplay, but the main thing is the current graphics for the skill just don’t sit right with me anymore.

It’s not like I’m going to quit the game if it doesn’t get changed, but I mean…didn’t anyone think of this when the game was in development?

Yes pulling a horse out of your pocket wouldn’t make a lot of sense, but this is a fantasy realm, things like that could be explained. What if there’s a pocket horse manufacturer in Rata sum, there’s “magic” in the world after all, right?

That’s the main point I’m trying to reach in this topic. It’s not a matter of questioning things that are ridiculous, it’s a matter of them being explained in someway to give the player a sense of believability.

@lason

The fast traveling in Skyrim is meant to be a skipping of the passing of time it would take had you walked on foot, that’s why if you do fast travel in the game at say, 6 a.m., it’s now all the sudden 12 p.m. when you get there. When you fast travel in this game, it’s assumed to be instant.

Please put a trading post, banker, repair smith, and common merchant in every home instance and I’ll be happy.

If you want to go one step further and make RPers like myself ecstatic, please make each home instance have a customizable HOME (i.e. Hearthfires from skyrim) that you can invite friends over to and have get-togethers and relax in. It would also make each players home unique.

Why is there No Dueling and no Trading

I fail to see how dueling would be a problem at all in the game. Why can you have costume battles or whatever they’re called, but two people having a quick match in town square is against the ideals of the game? Makes no sense. It’s way more of a hassle to make people go into a whole other realm just have to a duel.

As far as trading goes however, I don’t see much point to it. If you wanted to trade something with someone use the mail system. If you’re trying to trade something with someone you don’t know, then why are you trading with someone you don’t know? Put it on the TP.

Healing Others in Battle

Some people have such narrow minded points of view, they’re never able to look past anything BUT dps as winning, and if you’re not clearing a dungeon in 5 seconds it’s an automatic fail. I personally don’t understand why these people play MMORPGS, they should be playing racing games or something, but I guess it’s more a flaw in the game design more so then the person who’s been led into believing in this being the correct way to play the game.

Regardless,

the way the game is setup is that you can’t JUST be a healer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t specialize in healing. I personally play a cleric ele, and have been playing an elementalist since the beginning, but in order for your team to be successful you have to have knowledge of what’s going on and or deal damage to enemies, you can’t just expect to get in a group and use healing skills. That being said if you like healing and want to use a cleric build, there still should be enough damage being brought to the table as long as you’re whole group isn’t comprised of healing focused builds. The problem of course is you get people like oxtred, who think zerker is the only viable build in the game, and then start complaining because the dungeon isn’t being cleared quick enough.

Back on topic however I would love to see “healers” being rewarded more with achievements and titles. I think what Arenanet should do though is update the LFG system to include a “role” feature when searching, so it gives more of an idea as to what type of build people are playing. Say for example after the person’s name it could say “Cleric” or “berserker”.

Waypoints

That’s sort of a simple, but good point Paradox, but again if the LS is directly effecting the Waypoints, I think more should be explained about them, maybe from Taimi, she doesn’t seem to be too snobbish on explaining how her devices work at least. I guess we can establish at least the fact that they work through “magic” and they are setup on the leylines. Do warriors use magic though? I can’t really think of any magic skills they have, and rangers use more of a spirital energy as their form of “magic”.

All that aside it still doesn’t really explain the cost of waypoint travel either. Where is this money going and how does it get taken? I understand it’s mechanics but I also think it’s important to make a world that is believable.

If I may quote Todd Howard ""tying all those things together to create a more believable world." The point of Skyrim was not dragons – “that was just a very specific feature” – the point was compelling, believable escapism.
