Hello Rosebud! I would like to ask for clarification on a few points to figure out where the problem lies. Just a few questions:

  • When you changed character, did you activate the episode in your story journal? You can do so by opening your hero panel [H], navigating to the Story Journal and activating the episode.
  • Did you read the mail message that was sent to you before starting the first instance?
  • What does the current quest step text (in the upper-right hand corner of the screen) read?
  • If you could include a screenshot of your UI, please do so – it may be of help when figuring out how to address the issue!

Alright, everyone! First off, THANK YOU for all of the added information on this issue; these are exactly the kinds of details we need to easily narrow and identify the root of an issue when it is reported. I’m happy to say that we’ve identified the problem and have our top men working on a fix.

While we do have a build on the way with some of the other issues identified with today’s release, the fix to this issue WILL NOT be ready and tested for this next build. If you are running fractals with the daily chest in mind, please recognize that you will not receive a daily chest until the fix has been implemented. If you are not working to progress your fractal level, farm relics, or test your might against Mai Trin, I would recommend taking the night off to check out other areas of the game – such as Wintersday or WvW (heed the summons to the Mist War!).

Thank you all for your patience and help with us to get this issue handled! Be sure to keep your eyes on the ‘Game Release Notes’ for the latest updates on a fix to the issue!

  • The fractal level in question.
  • Was this was your first, second, or <insert number here> fractal for the day?
  • What other fractals (or fractal sets) have you run since the last daily turnover?
  • (If you ran a fractal before the fractal in question) did you receive a daily chest for that tier?
  • Did other players in your party receive the daily fractal chest?
  • Was it was their first, second, or <insert number here> fractal for the day?
  • Is there anything else you found odd or relevant to the issue?

Any information will help us as we narrow down the issue!

In the meantime, the crash can be avoided if you do not hover your mouse cursor over the item link that appears after selecting and accepting the rune (see screenshot). This will let you utilize your sigil bags while avoiding the crash – at least until a proper fix can be implemented!

Hey Ysabeau. This is most likely intentional, as explained in today’s patch notes:

12/16/14 – December 16 Release Notes

New Log-in Reward System

  • Players logged in after 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest after 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 16.
  • Players last logged out before 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest immediately after the update.
  • For more information, please see this blog post.

Anyone who logged in after 4:00 PM PDT before today’s patch will not receive the login screen until today’s daily rollover. This is most likely the case if you were online at any point last night!

Now, if you do not receive the opening dialogue after today’s daily rollover, then please let us know!

Hello everyone! Thank you all for taking the time to post on the issue and follow up with more information as new instances of the issue arise! Our QA team is continuing their diligent hunt for the root of the issue, and while the symptoms are clear, the exact causes of the problem(s) are not. We’ve also been tracking reports of the issue on external forums, though have not been able to reproduce the issue with information provided here or elsewhere.

We would like to invite anyone who experiences this issue to provide details here on the official forums which may help in the hunt. Please consider including the following when posting a response to the thread below:

HeaderThe fundamentals…

  • The Main Details: Try to include the following details at the top of your report. This helps us quickly identify the important details of the issue:
    • The IP Address of your map. You can get this by typing /ip in your chat window.
    • The Map / Location of the issue
    • The Event Name (when the event stuck)
    • Your character info (Character Name, Level, Race, Profession)
    • A screenshot clearly highlighting the issue (this is probably less useful here, but it’s good to get into the habit of good practices)

BodyThe details…

  • Be Specific: Try to cover the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the stuck event? Where did it get stuck? What were the conditions present leading up to it getting stuck? Which NPC’s are causing the trouble? What were players doing at the time (was someone spamming an NPC? Did another event kick off?)? Now is the time to go full-on Marjory Delaqua and start putting the puzzle together. Remember to only report facts and be descriptive.
  • Be Descriptive: The more information you provide about what was happening, the better! Did an NPC teleport from <point a> to <location 2>? How many players were present and scaling the event? Sometimes the simplest detail can be the key to the entire puzzle, so be descriptive! We aren’t always there when the event breaks, so we rely on you to explain what happened when it did break.

We’d like to get this fixed as much as you do, and we appreciate you working with us to make that future a reality! Whenever you run into the issue, be sure to check in here and post the above information. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the issue, and will be using your reports to establish a pattern that points at the source of the problem!

As mentioned by others in the thread, those overflowing with gold can repeat the early steps of the back item construction to continue through the process, though I would not recommend doing so at this time. Any time an item is unexpectedly altered or replaced by a different item altogether, I highly recommend that you start by searching for or starting a thread here in the official bug forum (while including as many details as possible about the issue…and pictures. We like pictures!).

Hey everyone! First off, thanks for following up on this issue and letting us know it’s still affecting your game experience. Unfortunately I’ve not been able to reproduce the issue internally, and it does not seem to be a problem which is affecting everyone equally across the entire game. In order to have a better chance of identifying the source of the problem, I need a little more information from those of you affected by the issue to begin our investigation:

  • What game client are you using? (Windows / Mac)
  • What are your current graphics settings?
  • Are you playing in full screen or windowed mode?
  • Is your inventory full or maxed out?
  • Do you play with bags displayed or hidden?

If you have any other information you’d like to provide that you feel could be helpful, please feel free to help me out and include that as well. Issues like this one are a perfect example of why it’s always a good idea to provide as much information as possible when reporting a bug, as it helps us narrow down the variables and identify the root of the issue!

Hey Txema. Make sure you check your audio settings and ensure that your ‘Dialog Volume’ slider is turned up to a level where you can hear NPC chatter and voice-over. If you need to, you can also hit the ‘Restore Defaults’ button to restore all your audio defaults.

If all else fails, try running a -repair command on your client shortcut.


For Windows Users:

  1. Make sure you create a shortcut to your Gw2.exe file. This can be placed anywhere on your computer.
  2. Right-click the shortcut, and type " -repair" (without the quotes at the end of the Target line. It should look something like: C:\Games\Gw2Dev\Gw2Dev.exe -repair
  3. Hit ‘OK’, and run the client. It should automatically check and repair any damaged files.
  4. Remove the -repair flag once it has finished, then try running the client normally. If this does not solve the problem, be sure to provide as much information as possible in the crash window.

Hey everyone. Thank you all for your reports on this issue! We’ve got a bug submitted which is under review by the programming team. That said, if you continue to run into this issue, please make sure that you continue to submit your crash logs, including any information you have which could help reproduce the crash. Some examples:

Did you click on a particular category which crashed you? Were there LFG listings in that category?
Did you type a certain character or word into the party window that may have caused it to crash?
Did Scarlet do it?

Additionally, it may be worth trying to add the -repair flag to your client shortcut and allowing it to check your .dat file for any errors. It may not address the problem, but only takes about 10 minutes to verify the integrity of your game data.


For Windows Users:

I would also like to thank everyone who volunteered their time to be a part of this experience: whether spending most of it on the battlefield or by contributing your feedback, thoughts, and the issues you discovered while playing to the forum. The response to our initial announcement was astounding – with thousands of guilds applying to be a part of our first undertaking into the public-testing setting – and the feedback we received was invaluable in creating the best experience possible for this new era of WvW.

Though we were unfortunately not able to invite everyone who applied, we’ve already begun working on ways to involve even more players in any future ventures into community testing. To everyone experiencing this issue, we would appreciate it if you also took the time to generate and provide us with the following information:

  • Network diagnostics, such as those provided from this site: http://measurementlab.net/run-ndt. Once you have obtained this information, please copy/paste this information into a Notepad document or directly into the body of your post. Please be sure to include all of the data, including the ‘details’ and ‘advanced’ output from the tool.
  • Your machine specifications. You can gather this information by running the ‘dxdiag’ command, or can append your client shortcut’s target line with the -diag flag (as you did with -log). The -diag command may take a few minutes to complete, but will generate a comprehensive file to send our way.
  • A screenshot of the download hang: we would like to see what you see when you get stuck.

These documents will help us immensely as we work towards a fix. Thank you, again, for your patience, and for helping provide this information.

Same exact problem has Gabriel and Wreckreator, "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying” on the 8th remaining file.
Never had a “Connection Error” problem with the launcher before the April 30th update,during that patch i had many “Connection Error” messages appear but it always “reconnected” after a few minutes..this 8th file(of yesterdays patch) is somewhat more stubborn.
I let it sit over night “Reconnecting” and when i woke up it still had the "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying” message,so i restarted the client and its STILL on that 8th file!

Whatever you did to the launcher on the 30th please un-do it!

Hey MrFayth. Thank you for submitting a -log file for review! I’ve been asked to confirm that you did leave the client open for at least 10 minutes (uninterrupted) while trying to download the file. If you would be so kind, could you run the game with the -log flag for at least 10 minutes, then provide us with the new file so we can take another look at the information it provides?

Update, 4/6:

In order to address certain exploits, the following changes have been made to summoning Guild Vault Transports:

  • Guild Vault Transports are now unlocked with Economy level 5 instead of Economy level 2. The cost has been increased from 50 influence to 1 Guild Merit and 50 influence.
  • Guild Vault Transports can no longer be summoned in instances.

Hey everyone. We are currently investigating the issue with dungeon rewards not being awarded properly, and will be implementing a fix as soon as it is available. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to bring it to our attention, as well as those who have provided as much information as they can to help isolate the problem!

If you run into this issue in the meantime, please make note of the rewards you received in respect to others in your party and list that information here. Please be sure to include the name of the dungeon, as well as any insight into what other dungeons you have run with an approximate time that they were completed (i.e. 16 hours ago, 3 hours ago, etc.).

Thanks for the update Evan. I’m really glad that you are working on an update. Both my gf and I have however completely stopped playing, until the issue is resolved.

I really hope it doesn’t take “weeks” to resolve…

That is certainly not the goal.

As a recommendation, this may be a good time to try out another profession or race. My only warning is that once you reach the level 30-40 missions, you run through them individually until a permanent fix has been implemented. That, or you could avoid the story altogether while you tackle map-completion or dungeons (my style of exploration).

Is there any word on whether or not it will be possible to fix this issue in a manner that allows us to experience the content of the storyline properly at a later date?
I personally do not mind if I have to wait a few weeks to continue the storyline after a reset to make sure issues do not recur. I think most people just want to know that they will be able to experience that content on their characters EVENTUALLY.

Thank you again for your reply, and I am certain all people who are experiencing this problem look forward to further updates.

The designers are discussing a fix for people who have already been affected by the issue. It’s critical to ensure that a reset doesn’t lead to larger issues down the road: such as the ability to choose a second path along a storyline where you’ve already chosen one, leading to what could only be explained as a “timeline paradox” which would surely cause all sorts of unhappiness to the time-space continuum.

The short answer: a permanent fix for those who have been affected by the issue is being investigated, and we thank everyone for their patience in an obviously frustrating situation.

Hey everyone,

First off, I’d like to extend a personal thanks to everybody who has taken the time to post the details of your situation. These specifics have been extremely helpful in finding the root cause of the issue, and the design team has been hard at work on not only a fix, but a solution for those who have been affected by the bug. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate issue, and assure you that the designers are hard at work addressing all of the critical issues detracting from a positive game experience.

As mentioned by others already, the issue revolves around playing through the missions where you choose your order as a group. The design team is currently exploring solutions for the issue and is working towards implementing a fix as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I would encourage everyone to please keep the discussion civil and on-topic. We are actively working towards a fix and are constantly on watch for any new issues which may arise in the first few weeks of the game! =)

For those who have been affected by the issue, can I please get the following information:

  • Group composition:
    • Race, Profession, Level of Characters, etc.
    • Story choices for each character in the group (Blackout, Vigil, etc.)
  • Who owned the Kellach’s Attack instance (which character created the instance in which others joined)?
  • Which characters progressed on to the Level 48 quest?
  • For those who did not progress on to the Level 48 quest, what quest were they directed to instead?

This issue should be fixed as of the latest build of the game, and while we will unfortunately not be able to reset characters which have already skipped the level 30-48 story steps, any new characters should not run in to this issue.

If you DO run into this issue again, please let us know everything you can about the issue as soon as possible – what character you’re playing, what race they are, etc. – and we’ll take another look at it!
