said it above about heals, same about support in general for gw2. the games meta is basically zerk, zerk, zerk and whatever spread out boons u can to a group. thats why he put it in quotes. cause support in gw2 is basically moar dps

I agree somewhat, but the game’s meta is zerk exclusively in PvE. Using zerk with most builds in any other mode won’t get you anywhere. Supposedly, ANet is making the PvE content in the expansion a lot harder, but whether or not this increases build diversity past zerker is really up to how well of a job ANet does.

For me solution to zerker meta is simple – make certain dungeons 10 times harder than the hardest one we have now. Make such a hard dungeons that it would be impossible to speedrun this, so it won’t be about how fast can you do this but rather ‘if there is chance we will finish it’.

There is a difference between hard for hard’s sake & requiring some tactical thought though.

For instance lvl 40+ fractals have mobs that will often just 1 shot you unless your abusing mechanics. That is hard for hard’s sake.

If they made encounters require teamwork, thought and utility skills other then reflects however that could be intrusting.

Of course you are right. Making something hard doesn’t mean just to increase damage or hp pool of mobs. As you have said – give us something which requires teamwork and use of utilities. I wish one day we will get a really hardcore pve content which requires teamwork, takes long time and not every random pug will be able to finish it.

Guardian armor and colors?

I’m currently using: electro blue + celestial + sometimes abyss. Sometimes I enjoy electro pink. I was about to buy pyre but suddenly changed my mind. I used to love: black + white + gold, then changed gold for frost blue. It’s just cheaper option. But I’m still experimenting. I also hate mixes like green yellow purple. Black/abyss is a must have for me. Then white/cele as it adds some majestity. The last color depends on the situation and weapons/hair/my humor. But it’s never green.

Those skills seem to fit guardian – not shooting million arrows but one meaningful and powerful. I’m only worried about healing, because if one skill’s purpose is to heal allies then it has to be really powerful healing to be useful. Stances = more skills to use, so we might not be so dependent on utility skills’ CDs as it’s now. On the other hand if it’s bow coming then we won’t see new bunkering options, but I might be wrong. Seems to me that guardian is going to get some more active playstyle, which is good. Or eventually it’s going to be more challenging to master it.

But for me it’s not so much about skills we are getting, but rather meta, which I want to be changed. I wish for more balance. I do really hope not only will they add specialization system, but also some more serious changes to current classes will happen.

Sorry for my poor English.

Ac p1, p3 will give you 3g and they are easy, short paths doable within minutes. Add some silverwastes farming and in 3-4 days you will have full exotic set. Runes are more pricy but you can buy cheaper ones if it’s your first character.

Or run eotm all days and night and soon you will have enough karma for full set.
I bought some gems before I realized that 10€ = ~80g, which is a joke, because you can make that money in couple of days. You will also find T6 mats + ecto from salvaging and if only you don’t care about saving them you can make some more money.

I’m (guardian) playing with my friend, who is thief and we are doing great. Guardian fits pretty much everything. Before that I used to play necro with another friend playing thief and to be honest, that was an amazing experience. Another interesting duo I tried is mesmer+thief.

My vote goes for… guardian. But if you are not really into its playstyle then you might give mesmer a try. Really, thief + mesmer duo is awesome.

So now we should start discussion what kind of skills will we get. I think it’s going to be longbow with many condition options or very support boon weapon. I think it’s not going to be pure dps/very fast assassin-like weapon, it just doesnt fit guardian well for me.
Or maybe devs will surprise us this time and so they will give us something completely unpredictable.

Engineer or Guardian

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Hattoni.8597

Hattoni.8597

First of all, there is no ‘tank’ (or healer) here in GW2. You will be never standing in front of the boss and just facetank it→heal→facetank→heal.. It’s just not possible to do it. Also, healing is just an add, you will never build your class around ‘healing’.

Guardian has no range options (there is staff, but useless in pve and scepter, which is mostly used on large bosses; hope we get something like bow in hot). Engineer is medium range class with very high dmg (you will have to learn rotations of course). Engi is usefull everywhere, can stack vuln as you said, is mobile, very good all round class.

Guardian is my main, but not because it’s super op, but because it simply fits my playstyle. I leveled only one engineer to 80, played her for like a month or two and I have to tell you that it’s an amazing class. In my opinion it’s stronger than guardian.

Also, engi is about learning rotations/spamming keys (by saying ‘spamming’ I mean pressing many of them in a correct order). Guardian has little to no rotations (they’re easy to remember), but timing is a key here. You have to know when to put stability, aegis, you will learn how to keep your aegis as long as possible. You know, it’s not about learning certain rotations, but about adapting and learning bosses’ moves.

It’s hard to say what you will enjoy more, but I’d suggest you to pick engi, bacause of versitality it provides.

Sorry for my bad english.

guardian or elementalist.

in Guardian

Posted by: Hattoni.8597

Hattoni.8597

Guardian and ele both require different skill from player. Elementalist is about combo – you have to know rotations and you have to remember them.
Guardian – here you don’t have rotations (ok, there are rotations, but they are not as complex as ele’s). But there is thing called ‘timing’. You have to know and predict what will happen in next second or two. You have to learn bosses’ moves, you have to know other classes rotations to prevent getting knocked down for example.

It is not as easy as new players think.

Short Bow or Long Bow?

in Guardian

Posted by: Hattoni.8597

In my opinion shortbow would be better. I mean, it would fit better, not work better for me. But still, Zoltreez is right, bow in general doesnt really fit guardian profession.

Bow is quite a possible option, because the only thing guardian really lacks is range. We also need conditions, working bunker/very defensive build as well as some more swiftness, but range is the most needed thing now.

Dungeons and guardian's weapons/skills use

Hattoni.8597

Hey,

I would like to ask how do you use your skills/utilities in dungeons.

I’m running dungeon meta build from metabattle with small personal changes. The thing is every battle is different and it’s impossible to only have one set of weapons and traits/utility skills. Here is my question – do you often change traits and carry all the weapons ‘just in case’? Every fight which I know is going to be longer than few seconds I pick staff for #4, then change to whatever weapon will work in this situation.

I’m asking because I’d like to know if I’m trying simply too much when changing utilities and traits every more serious fight or it’s how it works.

Thanks for replies in advance.

I’d like to see more conditions rather than more support on longbow. I mean, depends on what kind of support it might be. If it’s offensive support with good mobility then ok, but I can’t imagine zero mobility (bunker???) healing build with longbow.

x-bow can be thematic, if it uses magic attacks.

Alternatively, main-focus can be a bit like the cross from dante’s inferno ( but with guardian ankh projectiles )

Focus as a main hand weapon perhaps?

Would make sense

This would be really cool

except that most focus— foci?— are just a form of semi-circle w/ a bar between to hold it… while some are nice looking, most of the new ones i’ve seen added in game are boring as all.

This. Foci are boring and as far as there are some interesting ones I still can’t imagine wielding focus as a mh.

For me there are two options – devs will make guardian more professional class (more complex, for tournaments) or casual (for pve, roaming, all round builds). I think bow would be great, but for roaming (wvw in general) mostly, while spear, redesigned shield, main and offhand pistol might make guardian harder class, more complex, more useful in highest tier play.

Spear as a very offensive weapon with shield might be an interesting weapon set, but only If they redesign shield. Spear + shield = holding a point for me. You know, like Spartans defending one place, not moving at all, but they were killing machines. You can run easily, but you can’t take point, when there’s guardian there. It won’t be op, because that kind of guardian would not have any ways to catch it’s opponent. This means it might be weak (useless) in roaming, but a must have for tournaments.

Having a single balance update every 4-6 months certainly isn’t helping. We need balance patches once a month at MOST.

Even one balance patch every half of year would be enough, but it should be patch that really balance things. You know, decreasing cd is not enough, but if they fix shield I’d be happy and don’t have a need for more patches.

I’d agree with a need for condition options. But don’t you think that ranged weapons don’t fit guardian? I mean, was there any ‘guardian’ with ranged weapons in a history (or movie, book)? No offense, I’m just curious if there was any. DW: sword, shield, axe, hammer, mace; 2H: sword, hammer, staff, spear – all of these weapons are close-medium range and all of those fits guardian. I don’t mean that guardian shouldn’t have range options, but CC+gap closers fits better than bow. Let me know what you think. I don’t want to offend anyone, these are only my thoughts.

Most often I’m in a team with condi/terrormancer (I think it’s standart 06404 with perlex runes, but I’m not 100% sure now), sometimes sb/d+p thief joins us (I’m really sorry, but I don’t know what traits he uses now, I’ll ask him tomorrow). I know it’s not very good comp, but we’re doing it just for fun, nothing really serious. But it’s something on which we spend much time now, so after few hours of roaming we decided to be a team, not just 3 guys standing next to each other. Also, they might change their build of course, but I’m the first who need change. Our main problem was that we were 3 guys fighting for ourselves only, now we are trying to think and play as a team.

Also, I can play any of guardian builds, I don’t care if it’s medi or ah or whatever, I like playing guardian with any build. I can use any gear, runes and sigils so full zerker isn’t a must-have for me.

I’m looking for offensive/defensive build with which I’ll be able to help my mate at least a little bit. I know that it depends on which class I stick with, so – I mostly stick with necro or thief. Would it be ah fronliner or there is something different that might work?

I’ll be happy to answer any question needed to suggest me correct build.

I’m really sorry for so many stupid questions, but: if I’m not a hardcore player, who want to participate in highest level tournaments, my preferences are: wvw roaming and many guild runs (casual guild), I mostly run full zerker or condi builds and I like being selfish (I mean, it’s not only about gw2, but pretty much every mmo game), and the most important – I like challenges, I like working on a class to understand it, I like classes which seem weak at first, but then if mastered it becomes hard to deal with them – then do you think I might find ranger (or any of rangers builds) interesting to play? I mean, not really interesting, but rather if ranger fits my preferences.

I hate it. Every time I find something interesting it is weak or not really that good to be competitive. The thing is that current meta = hambow, 2 engis, cele ele, necro(?). It depress me that bunker guard is worse than turret engi in holding a point. ‘Play what you want’ is correct, but you will never be ‘the best’ or at least better than celestial meta. I only wait for new changes, every new patch there is a small chance for balance.

Anyway, thanks for help.

Why we rarely see Rangers in tournaments? Why ranger is useless in organized guild fights? What about meele ranger then?

In roaming it doesn’t really matter what class you pick, because most often you fight people who are under 80 or newcomers. I rarely meet experienced players. I’m doing great with gs/hammer medi guard in roaming, I kill every class, every build – even cele eles. It’s not because I have advantages over them, it’s because most people are pretty much new and they don’t really know how certain classes work. (And I’m not saying I’m pro, it’s just an example).

in Necromancer

Hattoni.8597

It’s only a matter of time for me when necro becomes nearly op. In pve it’s obvious that necro has no place there, but in coordinated fights it’s more than just ‘strong’. We melt engies and thieves easily, in wvw there is still GWEN, in pvp terrormancer is amazing. I don’t really find necro to be too weak. It’s not as easy to play condi necro as, in example, medi guard. Playing necro requires positioning and we can’t just spam 3 skills while cds are down. We can’t burn all of our fear at the beginning of fight, we have to look when enemy burst his boons to counter it with corruption. I enjoy necro, because it’s challanging to play it.

I’m sure there will be buff to necro one day, maybe in January, maybe in March, maybe in next year, but it’s worth waiting for me. There is this celestial thing now, which requires nerf and it will be nerfed one day.

Look at top pvp teams – only eles and engies are in a good spot now, bunker guards are now weaker and less useful than ever, necros are much more welcome.

I’m playing necro just because I found it rewarding and I truly enjoy it. It’s like when a certain class doesn’t fit you then no matter how op it is you won’t enjoy it. Play your necro if you like it, there will be time when we will read: ‘last spot, looking for xxx necro, no engie’.

Profession: Ranger, Thief, or Necromancer

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Hattoni.8597

Hattoni.8597

There are two options:

1. You don’t have guild nor friends:
1.1. Pve wise: thief – great choice, interesting and pretty complex class, pretty high skill required to master, very high dmg, very mobile class, which requires much timing and active defense, great choice for any pve content and always wanted. Ranger – easier to play than thief, but it’s still not faceroll kind of stuff, if you like pets you might pick ranger; less risky than thief but has lower dmg (ok, everything depends on build), I’d suggest ranger for newcomers. Necromancer – the worst class for pve, it’s damage isn’t bad, but the problem is that necro has no group support; you might get kicked from pugs just because you are necro.
1.2. Pvp wise: thief – hit and run class, you are not a part of group, but rather lone wolf supporting your team with highest burst dmg possible; not recommended for new players as it’s fast and very risky/fragile class. Ranger – more teams find place for rangers nowadays, which shows that ranger is in pretty good spot; not the hardest class to play ‘good’, again – if you like pets you might find ranger interesting. Necromancer: terrormancer is just awesome, very strong, requires much skill, unique playstyle class, necro is current meta for most pvp content.

2. If you have friends or guild:
2.1. Pve and pvp wise: pick whatever you want. Really, it doesn’t matter what you pick: necro will work in any dungeon as well as every class will work in pvp.

To sum up with, try to find casual – friendly guild, because you might lose much fun without any friends. Once you find one you shouldn’t care about what is ‘strong’ or ‘weak’. If you want me to you can join the guild I’m currently in – people are very helpful, they will teach you whatever you want and are really casual – friendly, while being very experienced in a game.

For any further questions or if you want to join guild mentioned above (you can leave it whenever you want) drop me a message.

Hattoni.8597

I’d suggest you to pick ranger or thief. They both work as a damage dealers and are wanted in most pve content. High dps, high risk classes (especially thief) so they might fit you. Mesmer would be another good choice as it’s a mix of thief (gw2) + force blader (cabal) and ranger (gw2) /and maybe shadow + rune officiator from ryl2/. Mesmer is a unique class, which makes it even more interesting. It’s wanted in both pve and pvp for its utilities. What is more, Mesmer is one of those high risk=high reward classes and it requires much skill to master it, so you won’t get bored fast.

You wrote you don’t like heavy classes, but guardian might also be interesting. It’s not about spamming keys like with engineer, but rather timing + meditation guardian is not faceroll, because it’s quite fragile, which makes it even more exciting.

So, pick Mesmer if you like it’s playstyle. Otherwise you might give thief or ranger a try (ranger is a nice class, but it’s might not fit everyone; in example I don’t like pets, so..). If you are completely bored try guardian with meditation build.

I don’t say that Asuras are designed wrong, just saying that some shoes look weird, because shoe skin only applies to the modele toe and others are outside the shoe.
