Now that the story of Tyria in GW2 has advanced significantly especially in regards to Zhaitan – the Orr maps should now show less Dragon corruption seeing as Orr is now in the process of being cleansed as a direct result of the completion of the Personal Story? Orr should only be still complete corrupted in the Orr-Personal Story instances.

I think the reason Arenanet has not developed a true expansion is because NC Soft through its division NC Soft West has not been committed to growing the IP to truly compete with the MMORPG of its rivals. I think It’s too focused on Blade & Soul. The truth is a large fraction of the budget for the development of Blade & Soul should have gone to developing an expansion that would have allowed GW2 to compete in China in a wholistic and serious way.

I think optional paid content expansions is an important supplementary and experience enhancing move. Every six months have content expansions that goes indepth into the lore of a playable race which requires players to take a character of that race to complete a series of story quest that on completion gives new cultural armor and weapon skins and more importantly cultural based specialisations for each profession available only through buying this content. And do this with each of the five content expansions in their turn. Humans with get additional lore concerning the Ascalon Vanguard and on completion of the quests gain this armour/weapon set. The look of the skins will be better than the Ebon Vanguard set and different to the Catacombs set. The Norn set would to me be the Bear Clan set. But each race would have their turn. And depending on how long Arenanet/NC Soft want to extend the life of the game I hope we get more cultural skins and more profession specialisations via expansions like HoT and through content expansions I have thus described.

Who will be the villain in the 2nd expansion?

Why not a full expansion and the first “true” expansion this next time? Where Jormag is the main villain. The expansion would give us the Kodans a race of large bears (not just Polar bears). The lore would be expanded to include origin stories of the Norn and Kodan peoples. One of the key game mechanic changes would be for racial skills to become true elite skills available only in PvE and normal dungeons(not fractals or raids). Another would be a new specialisation set available only in aquatic and polar/alpine regions only. I see additional specialisations to be limited to groups of environments and not available in all. These and other additions would make a better expansion for GW2.

I predict that in a future expansion we will see that the Charr invade Kryta and take Divinity’s Reach and the humans will only have Lion’s Arch and Ebonhawke. I won’t be surprised at all.

Your prediction is wrong, unless the “Charr Invasion” are as either an emergency response in coordination with the citizens of Divinity’s Reach to thwart a mutual threat (Such as Bubbles or Primordus invading Kryta), or in a wave of immigration when racial relations between humans and Charr improve to the point where social intermingling becomes normal. Or as a wave of customers when Sausagefest comes to town. (Sausagefest is best party ever)

… wait. I remember you. You’re that godkitten Separatist Sympathizer who was always going on about how Kryta should pre-emptively invade Ascalon back when the Race Forums were a thing.

Well Arenanet has run out of ideas Living Story wise. The continued focus on using the Sylvari long after the Scarlett saga is proof of that. Rylock is now well placed to be the next Tribune of the Iron Legion – who seat is the Black Citadel. As Tribune he would no longer be just a mere warrior – politics will then be his main game. I am not interested in any Sausagefest. I prefer Dolyak flesh cooked medium-rare by the human chefs of Human Ascalon – who’s current seat is Rurikton with its main and only city being Ebonhawke. And my main warrior(male) from GW prefers the charms of Devona or Cynn. He eventually married a Tavern owner’s daughter – who’s beauty and strength of spirit became his world and had many children by her. And of course Dolyak steak was often a dinner feast…..

I’m questioning why I continue playing after Eir is killed off. She is a central character who would one day help the humans have allies among the Norn when the Charr re-start their invasion on the last human kingdom. All of Arenanet writers will deny this doom. But I predict it will come to past once the Elder Dragons threat is extinguished for the current cycle. Then we will see. We will see why it was wrong to kill off Eir.

What I’ll like to see is that the Krytan-Ebonhawke military forces gain Watchknight tanks, assault vehicles and artillery pieces. I would like weapon systems be developed in Divinity’s Reach and be station around the city as well as around Lion’s Arch – now under defacto-Human protection – since it is now unofficially part of Kryta again since the Pirate Council have been blasted/vaporised/sunk – all but wiped out- by Scarlet and company. And finally around Ebonhawke and maybe the site of Serenity Temple which should actually be in the process of being rebuilt…. as a colony of Ebonhawke.

Could u please upgrade "Racial Skill"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nicholas S Lin.6187

Nicholas S Lin.6187

Make them accessible to all races through a skill unlock on the hero panel, with the limitation that you can’t mix and match across races. So, for example, if you are using Asuran racial skills, you can’t also use Sylvari. Opening them up to all races means that ANet can bring them up to the level of real skills. Not flavor.

How would this be an improvement? My suggestion was to make the races matter, be different, unique. NO sharing of racial-skills. A human cannot use a Charr skill. An Asuran cannot use a Sylvari skill. To me a player character should be restricted to race/racial faction (for humans one Avatar-human racial skills set only)/profession.

I think racial skills should matter and there be multiple sets. The Humans get the Avatars of the Six. The Charr based of the Legion the character choose. The Asura based on the Academy they joined. The Sylvari split among the those that side with the Pale Tree. the Nightmare Court or the followers of the Dragon. Also the racial skills should also be affected by the profession chosen. With so much opportunity for being a unqiue character their will likely be more than a few real and effective"metas" for each profession.

How about the other half of the first expansion set? How about a new optional playable race – who’s intro story is attached as a tangent to the HoT story arc. As in not connected to the Personal Story so that the introduction is logical, seamless and relevant to the current story without getting in the way of it.

NCSoft should allow for and implement a once off payment model for major content up-grades and ignore players that say they want the game to be completely free after initial purchase. Such a move will allow TIMELY major content updates!

Logan and the Queen

The real reason Logan and Jennah’s story is poorly or extremely under developed. And the reason why BOTH are basically old furniture stored in a forgotten corner of as massive GW2 warehouse is because the GW2 Lore-mistress and her writing team are too focused on the Sylvari and have left them there too long. Its now extremely problematic to re-insert them into the story. Since had they been actually present in the current Living Story, the events would have occurred significantly differently. The reality is with the exception of Rylock most of the guild know as Destiny’s Edge have been essentially forgotten. What is clear is that Arenanet has forgotten that Destiny’s Edge was re-forged as a guild at the end of the Personal Story.

Are the humans too weak ?

in Human

Nicholas S Lin.6187

Also note that at this point we’re having a chest-beating competition between what are probably two of the superpowers of Tyria. Humans are in a much less precarious place than sylvari, particularly at this current point in the Living Story (with the Pale Tree critically injured while Kryta is apparently considering expansion) or the dispersed and individualistic norn. Even asura might arguably be worse off than humans in terms of population and military power – it’s just that they have gates, the waypoint network, and a flying citadel for their capital. However, an assault by air that knocked out Rata Sum would probably put asura in an even more precarious position than a similar attack on Divinity’s Reach would put humans in.

You are aware that signing a truce in a time of war is merely a short-to-medium-term stratagem? To buy time to build strength and stability? The Charr, since the time of GoA has achieved their real goals as a result of said treaties. The High Legions may not be united. But their only real threat is the Flame Legion. The ghosts of the Ascalon region are a minor distraction of little consequence. Each Legion based on available information have secure borders and sufficient control of their home regions. Note that the lands held by the FOUR Legions are ALL on the Tyrian continent, thus have THREE times the population and thus military might compared to Tyrian Humanity – whom are restricted to Kryta and a small portion of Ascalon. Thus I hold that my opinion is the most correct and relevant – in this regard.

Are the humans too weak ?

Arenanet has not been very consistent with its lore. The Charr are not so held as some claim, they can actually spare a Legion for war/invasion if not for the treaties they have signed – both with HRH Jennah and with the Orders. And humanity is far from plentiful. Many here include Cantha and Elona(the continuent is a lot worst for Humanity than Tyria – and on par with Orr). Tyria is a separate region in its own right. So the population count for humanity must ONLY include those still living in Tyria, NOT anywhere else.

Thus in my opinion Tyrian humanity is actually at the edge of extinction.

Are the humans too weak ?

in Human

Posted by: Nicholas S Lin.6187

Nicholas S Lin.6187

The humans are not enslaved not because they are strong or have any strength. Its because the Charr cannot unite as one race and second because they are distracted by both the Flame Legion and the ghosts of human Ascalon. Thus the statement that humans are strong enough is actually false and a complete lie.

Of course Tyrian humanity is weak. Elona and Cantha are different continents to Tyria so must be considered separate. As in both cannot be associated in the terms of reference of this discussion. Also in case if any have missed this detail: both Krytan and Ebonhawke farmland are plagued by bandits and or beasts and renegade factions. This means that human supply lines are weak and unreliable.

Thus none can claim that humanity can hold their own in Tyria. They simply cannot. And this is truth undeniable.

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: Nicholas S Lin.6187

Nicholas S Lin.6187

May I say that there are many technical and Lore issue to overcome for even the best candidates. However a choice must be made.

That choice is part and parcel of a true “expansion” content package that will have a reasonable chance of at least satisfying a good portion of the then current player-base.

That said I see no reason why Arenanet cannot re-engineer the Kodan race to include all large bear species to join the current polar bear form – issue solved. The Kodan will be an excellent choice for a Far Shiverpeaks content package that includes the Elder Dragon – Jormag.

For a potential return to Elona I would saw few choice could realistically rival the Centaur. Like the Charr before them – they in Lore had always been a great rival for humanity. There again will be major technical issues to overcome – but their Lore connection to that continent make them the best choice. Thus is my choice for this expansion content release.

The Tengu may be said to be the most assured race to be released as a playable race as we have already been give the name of their city state – The Dominion of the Winds. Thus a perfect fit for a Cantha expansion content release.

Each continent(/or extention in the case of the Far Shiverpeaks) have become, I believe an essential part of the world of Guild Wars of which Tyria is but one part.

Each release will obviously need to mean a whole of game upgrade thus a vehicle such as the current “Living Story” mechanic can NEVER succeed to match.

First of all, humanity obviously roughly equals the charr in military strength, since there would otherwise be no reason for them to enter a treaty. there may be individuals on both sides who boast about how they beat the respective other into submission, but let’s face it – There has been a state of war for two and a half centuries without any side getting the advantage since the searing.

Are you serious??? Its clear you are not. Humanity has lost significant land and population in Tyria after the events of Guild Wars. At the end of those events we still held control of significant sections of Ascalon. Now humanity in Tyria only have Kryta. Not only that. Population lost of such massive scale – translates to extreme reduction in the knowledge base of humanity in Tyria – this will include significant lost of magic knowledge and ability – on top of the catastrophic lost of productive capacity and the overall size of its military forces.

And so, please explain you and many other claim that Humanity can ever be seen as comparable in military capability. You are obviously in serious error.

Are the humans too weak ?

We only have Kryta left. The Charr has Ascalon and Blood Legion homelands. I think things go on pretty well on blood legion homelands that they send reinforcements for Ascalon. The Charr are stronger than us, more intelligent than us ( I didn’t see a human making any kind of machine ) and probably more agile-ish than us ( Ash legion for the win ).
The Asura are obviously much more intelligent than us.
I think a group of Norn could destroy an entire Seraph squad.
The Sylvari are also weak-ish but they have very strong magic compared to humans.

Well, humans have nothing at all, not as strong as the norn or charr, not as intelligent as the asura, not magical as the sylvari.

I am not an expert on lore but this is 90% right I guess. we’re too weak

In a word. Yes.

Very much so. we are no match for the Charr. Who are btw too overpowered. They could send in just one of their legions and still maintain secure borders against both the Flame Legion and the Ghost of Human Ascalon.

Humanity do not have either the technology nor the numbers to even realistically challenge the Charr at this time.

'Content you normally see in an expansion'?

People pay $40 for a console game, then consider it descent if they get 40 hours of gameplay out of it.

People pay $40 for Guild Wars 2, and after spending thousands of hours in the game, they complain about lack of content.

I don’t even.

Yes, more content would be nice. Yes, not removing content would be nice. Yes, other MMOs love to recolor older content, change some numbers and pretend it’s new content. No, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t need any of that.

Players ask for a new continent, players get a new continent, players complain about having to explore a new continent. Let’s take this moderately, shall we?

Are you for real? seriously? We did NOT get a new continent. Dry Top as currently released is at best half a map – being extremely generous. I would suggest that its actual 25-30% of a map. Southsun is an island group and again is not a continent.

May I ask how old are you? Do you not know that an expansion requires the introduction of a playable race with a integrated back story that includes the existing playable races as significant actors in its plot line(s).

Additionally it must include but not limited to: A new fighting profession, a major additional game mechanic, a new dungeon in addition to what has been release in the Living Story process thus far. And it would of course include a few completely new maps and may also include access to previously locked maps as well as perhaps enhancements of some existing ones.

And who said that an expansion would be free content? I would expect to pay a reasonable one-off payment in exchange for this upgraded content.

Since that is what an expansion is.

Beware, expressing an opinion about the OP and his overwhelming love of the game will earn you an infraction. Not surprising really…

I’m amazed anyone can support the idea that only people currently active in the game should be ‘allowed’ to post in the forums. The level of censorship and the mindset behind it beggars belief.

It’s ‘bury your head in the sand and everything will be all right’ sort of attitude. Anet should be canvassing disaffected players and those who have left to find out what they did ‘wrong’ that made that huge number of players leave. Instead we have the OP suggesting and being backed up by an Anet employee the exact opposite, to try and create forums that just sing the praises of the game and don’t tolerate any expressions other than blind adoration and obedience.

I do not agree with silencing free speech. I am however against what I consider to be trolling. And that to me is define by those that make unrealistic demands of development team. And who do not appreciate that running a mmorpg is not a perfect science – such as people that complain about bugs. We all wish there were none but it is part of the reality of gaming.

There are many shades of grey and you sir only seem to see only in black and white. I would suggest you re-read what you written and realise maybe for the first time who is actually the blind one.

anet's lack of transparency

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nicholas S Lin.6187

Nicholas S Lin.6187

My biggest issue with the current communication policy is that it wastes Anet’s time. Since this police was implemented (and before, since Anet always played things close to the chest) Anet has either added in features that were undesired by players or left out features that were heavily desired by players. This causes Anet to waste time on the iteration of these features, and then waste time again to fix / remove / replace these features. All the while they are taking flak after release because of unhappy players.

For example, in the new Trading Post (which is quite an upgrade), the final value total is glaringly left out when a player sells and item. In the NPE, the personal story had a large restructuring that ruined continuity and altered the ending, much to the anger of players. Players have also disliked the new, higher unlock levels for everything in the NPE. Getting older, players severely dislike the new trait scavenger hunt. (This ranges from disliking the difficulty to outright disliking a scavenger hunt.) Finally, and oldest, players have asked for PvE content updates above and beyond what the LW / LS provides, but it has been made clear that LW / LS is the only vehicle for PvE content updates.

Each of these issues could have been identified in pre-release iterations if Anet had a more open policy. Instead, I feel the players are being punished because Anet release an update with unwanted, disliked features. And, when players angrily lash out about these problem features, Anet uses that as an excuse not to talk about future design. This is hurting all of us Anet.

I agree with John on this and from what I have seen online in the various forums here and elsewhere GW2 people for different reasons/wants/desires/likes all agree on one thing, among everything else. ALL believe that an expansion in the traditional sense of a content package is the only viable vehicle that can deliver what the majority of the veteran/regular player base wants and needs for the enjoyment of their gaming experience and online leisure time.

This has been communicated in many different ways and forms but we the player base have no real proof that this opinion has been heard and actioned by those that “green light” development proposals…….

One of Humanity’s best quality is the shared ability to seek and identify a mission that benefits the common good. That’s what we are known for. That’s why we are the Apex predator.

Unlike the apparently more obvious choices – in the real world. Tyria of course is not the real world but…… humans are humans.

The Krytans and the citizens of the Stronghold of Ebonhawke – the defenders of their glorious past would have closed ranks ever more closely after the battle against Zhaitan and the more recent battle against the forces lead by Scarlett.

I do not believe that Arenanet has fully acknowledged this racial trait.

This is yet another example of anti-human thrill-ride. I lore has been structured in such a way that HRH Jennah is the only human capable of holding the leadership of humanity in Tyria. Lord (Captain) Samuelsson the leader of the Stronghold of Ebonhawke could have been written to be a real leader – but is now written as someone who has had leadership forced on him and is trying to find the best way to give it away. Logan Thackeray – should have been the logical choice being the decendant of heros Gwen and Keiran Thackeray – two of the three along with Captain Langmar to found the last stronghold of free Ascalon – the real Ascalon. Human Ascalon.

And so yes HRH Jennah cannot be threaten in onlyway since humanity has no better option as who can rule and represent humanity’s best interest among the other races of Tyria.

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

Nicholas S Lin.6187

For me I believe that when taking into acknowledging the fact that many who have brought GW2 and are no longer playing is indicative of that state of the game. Would be a good first step. I believe that NC Soft is ignoring this since it makes enough monies with its other IPs and thus not giving Arenanet the funds it needs to develop an expansion to supplement the Living Story.

I believe Guild Wars 2 has been effectively pushed aside to focus on Aion and Wildstar. Many here have posted numerious ideas and suggestions for and against an expansion. GW2 was released after Aion and thus it needs to benchmark itself against both it and the original game and present a compelling product that would attract players who have played those two – but are now looking for something new.

Guild Wars 2 should have been that product. There should have been an acknowledge content release timeline that is reviewed by management every 6 months and then announced to the player base. This timeline should have included Cantha, Elona, the Far Shiverpeaks & a totally new region – based on the GW2 world.

A timeline would give the player-base a reason to stay since it gives us the confidence that NC Soft is committed to growing the GW2 IP. Clearly they have not come close to this or have quietly ignored the data that they are well aware of.

Arenanet owns the IP and if they wanted to make the Thackeray family and Logan relevant and still true to the Lore of GW2 these ‘upgrades’ to his and his family’s back-story would be helpful.

It would allow them put Logan into one of the leading roles in the current “Living Story” – story arcs. In so doing Logan will indeed be “cooler”.

Can you make Logan cooler

in Human

Posted by: Nicholas S Lin.6187

Nicholas S Lin.6187

Logan does actually need to be “cooler” if one takes the meaning that his role and ancestry should inform the way he should be portrayed. This would include but not limited to:

- the acknowledgement that being a Thackeray means that his true allegiance is to Human Ascalon , to Ebonhawke and the Ebon Vanguard.

-that he is NOT Krytan

-Arenanet should retrofit his back story to reveal that either through Gwen or Kieran or both – that he is in fact of noble birth and is in fact a Lord in Ascalon.

-This would also mean that he automatically sees himself as a leader of his people and a peer to Wade Samuelsson – who should actually see himself as a Lord also.

Indeed both men should see themselves as charged with protecting and promoting the cause of Humanity in Ascalon. These changes will finally give us two human men that are seen to be hold a high rank within the machinery of the government of humanity in Tyria.

Since at the moment there is not a leading male figure that can be respect and be seen to be putting the interest of the many ahead of their own personal gain.

There are at this stage too few details as to what the full effect of Rylock’s action might be. But it would pull the stories of Destiny’s Edge and the new group together. But taking in all the other scenes in that short clip on board it seems likely that the world of Tyria is now suddenly potentially more explosive than when Scarlet was around. Because at least then everyone was on the same page.

Now literally nothing of the fabric of Tyrian stability is assured. And it seems likely that Rylock’s action may have played an important part it helping start this coming “bomb- crater” of a geo-political situation.

What can be said will certainty is that the “Dragon’s Reach” clip promises much…..

But as far as we know Gwen have a grand total of zero connection with nobility of the human kingdom of Ascalon, while on the other hand it is fully possible that Rytlock could be related to the former leadership.

Adding Gwen into the equation for no reason other than her being a somewhat large (and annoying) part of GW1 would be silly.

The reason I believe that Logan should do it is because of this family connection with his great-grand mother, Gwen Thackeray. That to me is a strong enough bond between the present and the historical Human Ascalon.

The fact that it is Rylock and not Logan Thackeray the decendant of Gwen that we first met as a child in the fields of Ascalon is a traverse in itself for many GW(1) fans including myself. But what else can we expect from the Arenanet writers who believe that the community would accept a non-human Ascalonian to complete the needed ritual redemption of their long dead past.

We as a whole community include both the veterans and the newcomers are meant to accept that the Human Ascalonians of what is left of the real Ascalon, the land we met at the dawn of the first game – could be freed from its curse by a Charr.

What does the spirits of Gwen , Keiran and Langmar the people that they helped save think of such act of disrespect? Shouldn’t Logan have known by this point in history that of all the people that are now living the legacy of Ebonhawke that regardless of his present duties and obligations it must be he and only he that completes the absolution?

Please direct me to a link that proves that Rhytlock breaks the curse. I’ve seen the teaser, it doesn’t support your position.

The fact that he will be attempting to do as accused is in itself a serious enough offence. Beyond that none can say with full certainty what the full extent of his deed might do if anything.

I’ve recently completed Season Two: Gates of Maguuma (Ep.1) and Entanglement (Ep.2) as well as the Personal Story/Living Story content as many have. And it seems that Humanity relevance in the GW2 is primarily based on their historical importance.

Humanity are mostly passengers in the living lore. Any plot detail that is directly of human relevance is quickly discarded(Watchknights) and/or ignored(Logan Thackeray, HRH Jennah, Ellen Kiel). At best like Kiel has been mentioned and maybe Queen Jennah.

While its true that they have their own lives and duties to get on with – they have been absent from the plot too long now. The plot is too Sylvari /Asura centric and there is currently little to no reason to be interested in Humanity, The Norn or the Charr in terms of being plot drivers as a people – outside of the Personal Story.

I believe there needs to be a significant rebalancing of the direction of the Living Story of GW2 Lore.

Joining the fight for Ascalon to me can also be seen as the battle to re-igniting the human spirit of advancing the interest of humanity as a whole in Tyria. This duty can be actioned in more ways than on a battleground.

Research and Development (R&D) has always been key to success of any given civilisation. And a major part of R&D is the application of it. So one question could validly be what has been done with the human Watch-knight technology last seen in the passages of the “Living Story” at the (Krytan+ Human Ascalonian) Queen’s Jubilee?

Refinement of that technology would have almost limitless possibilities – both military and civilian. Also since the Dragonbrand and the left-over artifacts from the Searing remain in the environment has any new knowledge been gained by the human mages in their research? Are they even organised in a arcane/magicial/scientific association separate from the Priory? And if not why not?

The attaining of new knowledge could greatly aid humanity and Tyria as a whole – at least as much as on-battlefield fighting.
