Crashing in Bitter Harvest

Not sure if this will help anyone, but…

How many are doing this solo versus with a friend?

Last week a friend and I were doing this together, both had the quest active. Whomever started it always crashed at the helix, and only the person starting/activating it. She did it twice (crashed both times), I did it three times (crashed all three). We called it a night there and she was going out of town for the week. I still had 4 characters who hadn’t completed the quest yet however, so I decided to experiment and run them through it. Four out of four without issue, back to back (to back to back). I thought the bug was gone and so she and I tried it a few minutes ago (with her starting it since I no longer had any characters on the quest), and before we got through the first wall on the helix she crashed.

Not sure what, if anything, this all means but it definitely looked like an issue with running this quest with someone else in the group.

Deathly Chill Nerf

So for those that don’t know, Deathly Chill will be nerfed upon the release of PoF but Reaper will be buffed significantly. So we will basically be getting Scourge as our condi/support spec, and Reaper as our power spec.

So, as a condi Reaper who spent a lot of time/gold getting full ascended Viper stats it’s a big FU…got it.

So glad I didn’t preorder…

I would consider getting them if they were account wide rather than character specific. There is no way I am getting them for each character though, and that pretty much precludes my buying them at all.

Why have multiples of the same class? I get people who did it in the past to have multiple builds, but now switching builds is fairly trivial.

A couple of reasons. One is for different playstyles and for different looks (which is important in a cosmetic based game). I have a Norn necro and a sylvari necro. One is a reaper and the other is a minion master. They look completely different and I get to choose a different armor set for each. A second reason is animations. I have a Norn warrior and a Charr warrior. imo the Charr warrior’s animations are superior and the Norn is now parked at a flax farm.

Ok, so it’s basically all about the cosmetics? This isn’t a criticism, I just wanted to be sure I was clear on the motivations for doing it. I am, personally, more interested in the mechanics of a class than I am in the cosmetics so I can understand why this motivation for multiple characters of the same class escaped me. I just wasn’t sure if I was missing out on something I might have otherwise wished I had known about.

[Bug Fix] Hardened Leather Sections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Phaedryn.3698

I recently came back to the game and was shocked at the cost of leather. When I left (before LS Season 1) the cost of crafting was in the exotic/rare materials, not the base materials (cloth/leather/metal/wood).

Now, I did have maxed out stacks of all of the leathers in my bank, and yes I could make a nice chunk of gold selling them, but these prices are just absurd at this point.

Depends on your playstyle. I never liked playing casters, so I play a power Reaper with GS and Axe/Wh for a bit of range. Are you more interested in condis? power? reaper? non-reaper?

I….honestly don’t know, lol. Sorry, been a long time since I played and I am still trying to get a feel for the game again. Like you I also am not (usually) fond of caster playstyles. I do remember playing with axes and daggers, at least that’s what I had equipped when I logged back in for the first time. Also, I know next to nothing about Reapers (or any of the other stuff introduced in HoT) that’s all new to me.

Well, had ANet not been systematically nerfing any decent farming spot, thing like this wouldn’t happen. You can thank them for one more in a series of dumb kitten design choices. So glad I started playing RIFT.

it’s not arenanet fault 8it’s always easy to blame them for everybody, but the fault is ours, of the players), how else would you stop this from happening? they only changed it so you have an actual reward for completing the event.
can you imagine if people stopped farming having the loot plus the reward?
but since this is not going to happen we can’t have nice things.

How would I stop this from happening? Easy; remove DR, standardize loot table by zone and mob type, normalize drops by mob dificulty (normal/veteren/champion). Done and done, no more even farming issuses.

Beginning of the month and if I am not mistaken it was also part of the daily. That would be why suddenly there were a ton of people that showed up.

Normally this only happens on World events.

The fact that this happens almost exclusively on world events =chest events is my point. I’m of the opinion that chests are actually the problem here. (while I love them.) *People would be more focused on killing and doing the events if they weren’t so loot/chest driven. *

Actually, few people would even do them in that case. The only reason most people I know ever bothered to showed up to one of the world events was for the chest. We would WvW until the timers were up, pop over to get the chest, then return to WvW.

Then everyone you know is part of the problem. I hope Anet is reading this and implements a fix for it. This is the type of stuff that has killed the PVE content of the game. Popping in and taking the loot without doing much of anything is exploiting the players who are actively involed.

Everyone I know is part of the problem? It isn’t the kitten poor design on ANets fault? Really now…

If PvE was worth a crap people would do it for it’s own sake. It isn’t, so people do it for what reward they can get. Deal with it. No reward would mean no people.

I started playing at launch and left after a about a month. I originally came to the game for the promise of WvW, but found it quite disappointing. I returned about two months ago, and for a while had fun. However, there were just too many basic choices made regarding the games design that left it feeling flat for me. I have since started playing another game that recently went F2P and have found it to be MUCH more to my liking. I haven’t felt a “need” to log in (or a desire) in a couple of weeks now and, frankly, do not see that changing without a fairly major shift in thinking/design in ANets part. As of now the game is un-installed, though I will continue to read the forums in the hope something changes (it is a beautiful game after all, just a shame the mechanics are so one dimensional).

How many people play Guild Wars 2?

Phaedryn.3698

I have no idea who many people are currently active players (and nobody outside of ANet does), but I would be surprised if a “full” server was more than a couple thousand people. Given that I find it hard to beleive there are much more than 100k playing (note: Im talking active, everyday players, not counting those who play a week or so then take a multi-month break). however, as the game is F2P one could make a strong argument that players=copies sold.

So what is the focus in this game?! I’m trying to find this game goal and as far as I know there is none!

The goal is the same goal as in any other good game: to have fun.

People are too used to mediocre games (aka MMORPGs) these days.

I would say that in the world of MMO’s GW2 is pretty mediocre. It’s combat is shallow and flawed, it’s reward system non-existent, it’s endgame…lol, I almost acted as if it HAD an endgame…

With the number of other MMOs that are F2P, GW2 will need to really step it up if it wants to continue to be successful. It got of to a nice start but much of that was from hype and it’s been going steadily down hill since.

Theory about Combat Roles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phaedryn.3698

Phaedryn.3698

Most forums talk about maximizing your DPS. It seems player consensus is that the optimal dungeon group uses overwhelming damage to muscle through. But is that necessary?

No.

Is that really the best way?

Yes. DPS is king because of some fundamental design choices. Survival has almost nothing to do with character, and everything to do with the player. As a result characters are built for maximum damage while the player keeps their character alive through good play. There really is no reason to chose a “survival” build at all.

I got bored with GW2 combat mechanics early on. Only played a month or so after launch. Came back about a month ago and already moving on to something else again (Rift in this case). Not sure if I will be back again or not, but if something doesn’t change in GW2 there really won’t be a reason to come back.

If you’re talking about PvP, it varies wildly and depends a lot on character and build.

If you’re talking about PvE: 0. Full berserkers. Always. PvE design flaw: The things you can tank you don’t need to, and the things you wanted to tank you can’t.

Cannot stress this enough. Biggest flaw in GW2 (aside from the poorly monetized F2P model).

in other games if you know how to play, you can progress through much, much faster. I’m sad this is not the case here.

Much faster? Than what? My last toon hit 80 in just under 8 hours (total) play time.

example: my first run in dark souls took 48 hours(I took it a bit slow) and I reckon I could do it in under 5 this time, maybe less. there are speedrunners getting 1hr with no exploiting. this is good. what did you do on that char may I ask?

Never played Dark Souls, but as I understand it that isn’t an MMO (which I wasn’t even considering when I addressed the question).

I crafted 99% of it, with boosters of course.

it isn’t. is that relevant? if at least the loot table was fixed then ppl who do hard content(if such thing exists in this game) aka ppl who do not need this slow leveling learning bs would be able to craft it easier. crafting takes a couple hours too afaik so that isn’t exactly the fastest either(with gold costs involved and all..).

I am not saying it isn’t relevant. I just wasn’t thinking “non-MMO” when I considered the question. Most of the games I play are MMO’s (GW2 is actualy the 4th MMO I am currently active in behind Eve, TSW, and DAoC).

The last go around it was just under 8 hours total, and less than 2 gold (granted I had TONS of mats in the bank so I didn’t need to buy much).

Well, I do it almost exclusively through crafting, however I have so many materials from playing through the game so far that I rarely spend a dime to level them. I avoid cooking because that is the one craft that I don’t have an over abundance of materials for, but if I need to make up some levels at the end I just go through enough of the personal story to hit 80 (usually no more than 4-5 quests/missions).

Cooking costs about 3g to fully level if you have most of the map unlocked and the right guide. Oh and a few hundred karma for the various sacks of stuff.

Yeah, I know…it’s usually a matter of not remembering to prep (hit the karma merchants) before I pop the crafting xp booster and then once I start I really don’t want to run all over…lol

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phaedryn.3698

Phaedryn.3698

I totally see what the Dev is saying that they are going to revamp ORR to make temple chains better rewards etc, and that’s great I guess if you are online in time for when a temple event is occurring, if you are at school/work to bad you miss out,

They have acknowledged the problem that ORR had but completely side stepped the situation about NO LOOT dropping at all, its all well and good to say that these changes are coming in the 2nd half of the year, but your players are leaving the game NOW because they cannot farm/get the mats/gear they want from your so called end game zones,

There is no point in trying to fix the rewards for events, if everywhere else is no drops at all, its beyond stupid,

I understand that you do not want it to go back to the old way but for the love of god, put the loot back into normal enemies in ORR,

Me and a guild mate cleared all of Straights, Mal’s Leap and Shore 2 days ago, ( on new toons ) we did events etc as we came across them, other than the zone completion rewards I got 1 RARE drop and 5 T6 mats out of the 3 zones, we also did frostgorge sound last night and I got 1 rare, 0 T6 mats, this was even with about 150% MF, its beyond a joke, where is my incentive to tell my friends etc to go pick this game up and play it.

Infact a few friends that I got into the game from the trails etc, have no left the game because they cannot farm the mats they need for there gear they want, friends take other friends with them, its not all about $$$ u know.

So much this. I had a friend/co-worker ask me about GW2 about 2 weeks ago (right after the introduction of the Karka Queen event). I told him not to bother at this point, and wait to see what happens in 6 months or so. There is just no good reason to invite friends to get the game at this point.

THIS game isn’t worth a sub though and danbuter is completely correct. Any subscription based MMO I have ever played has been completely gutted by going F2P with a cash shop. It has always been faster to craft to 80. This is what I do when I want to try a new class. Ive even deleted an 80 since making a new one was easy. I can do 1-80 in right around 9 hours. The mats aren’t an issue, and gearing once I hit 80 (at least in exotics) isn’t an issue, just buy them. Can do the entire thing without leaving LA.

The hardest part for me is usually choosing a spec.

This is what I was thinking also…

If everyone simply refused to buy them, they would be…literally…forced to change the policy. Remember, gem store is the only source of income for GW2. Boycott it and watch what happens. Happily go on buying gems however is only going to reinforce the concept for ANet.

They will keep doing this as long as players are buying.

As for why they don’t simply offer it strait up, they make more money this way. And until the push back is sufficient, they will keep doing so.

It appears the only thing they learned is to offer a Costo size bulk package so you wouldn’t have to click the 400 gem package 5 times.

Having been in Eve during the open revolt of the player base following the introduction of their cash shop, the difference in the two player bases is quite stark. In Eve they literally turned the largest trading hub in the game into a scrap yard.

Of course, Eve is a sandbox game and the players have the tools and freedom necessary to express their discontent in-game. Then again, here they have the option of “not playing” and refusing to buy gems at all. Thinking about it, I think GW2 players have an advantage. The can keep playing the game all the while starve it of funding. Eve could sort of do that for those, like me, who pay our subscription by buying PLEX with in game currency.
