Illusions refer to Phantasms and Clones.
Clones are the non-damage ones, like that iLeap makes.
So it could be either. Or even both, but I don’t know how much effort I expect Anet to put into Mesmer.
(edited by ToxicToothpick.4396)
In order for clones to actually do noticeable damage you have to stand in between all 3 and the mesmer and let them auto attack you down.
Even if you stand in a pile of Clones, you won’t take much damage. My Auto Attack does about 1500 a hit, my clones do 15 damage. They literally do 100x less than a single auto attack.
Phantasms, yes, but they have significant cooldowns and crumble to any AoE. Hit one once or twice and the Mesmer DPS will drop off the map. It’s also impossible to confuse them with the Mesmer due to them being pink and transparent.
They need to separate pvp and pve balance before they even touch Clones. In PvE Phantasms are 100% required for DPS and you need all three out to match the DPS of most other classes (aoe fights are sad times) while clones are just ‘filler’ for when you get another Phantasm. Making it any harder to get them out would make the class even worse at pve, something it does not need.
(This applies to all skills like Blink, I couldn’t fit more in the title, and Blink was the most recognizable name and often refers to the mechanic as a whole)
For a skill that instantly move a player to another location, there is a simple Quality of Life change that would make the abilities far easier and more fun to use, while avoiding unnecessary frustration.
There are two fairly simple solutions.
The first, which is less appealing, is to have the ability teleport the user as close as possible to where they click, within range. So clicking 1000m in front of you, would instead teleport you 900m in front of you.
The second, and far better idea, is to have the targeting circle simply unable to move out of the range. If the cursor is out of the abilities range, instead of turning red, it stops moving further away and instead simply stays and close as possible within the range circle. Secondarily, there could also be a thin white circle showing the range while aiming.
These would make such abilities faster, easier to use, and avoid the frustration of having an “OUT OF RANGE” prompt be the reason you wiped on a boss and need to run back for half an hour.

1. AoE Protection for Phantasms. There are certain bosses and encounters where out damage falls off into nothingness because the boss uses AoE attacks often, and kills all out Phantasms faster then we can summon them. Sometimes even before they can deal damage. FAR too much of our DPS is tied to them for this to happen as often as it does.
Makes Mesmer entirely useless in many fights. This would only apply to pve, having aoe as a weakness is fine in pvp.
2. Clone/Phantasms have separate maximums. Phantasms are, again, too important for damage to have them muddled up with Clones, which are spawned automaticly from various effects. Clones in PvE are functionally useless since monsters ignore them most of the time, so this wouldn’t be a major buff to strength, just a small buff to enjoyment. Might be a bit strong, but having all Clones dodge in a random direction when they player dodges would be very fun as well. Too strong in pvp though.
3. Just make Wardens remember to attack more often.
4. Clones have a chance to ‘Taunt’ an NPC with each attack, making them actually do something without stealth. As of now they are basically just there to look pretty. Granted they provide the same bonuses as Phantasms with certain skills/traits, but there is never a time you’re rather have Clones than Phantasms. MAYBE in pvp if your enemy is a moron, but never in pve.

I think Sword/Focus is the best DPS.
I use Sword/Focus and Greatsword, but I just got back into the game recently as well, so my info might not be perfect.
I don’t want people to be able to see my email when they add me as an in-game friend.
Is this something they are able to see or not?
No, you don’t.
It’s entirely optional, and really in the long run only nets you 10 achievement points and shoes you can get elsewhere. (They don’t even have a unique model)
All you’re missing by not finishing it is the sense of self accomplishment from finishing a difficult jumping puzzle.
There are more then 4 Pages for the Act 2 book.
You need to get the 12th page.
The Clock Tower Achievement does NOT count for the title tally.
All you’re missing form not having it is 10 Achievement Points and a orange bag in the Achievement log.
It’s perfectly acceptable to have those not skilled enough at jumping to not EARN and ACHIEVEMENT, as it does not impact the rest of the holiday events at all.
Quite frankly, I’ve never seen anyone quitting a game because it didnt’ have hard puzzles.
That’s because they don’t go to the forum and complain “This games puzzles are too easy! I quit!” they instead silently lose interest and move onto other games.
The ones that think they are entitled to and achievement just because it exists are the vocal ones, and the ones that will threaten to quit. (They likely will not though)
We don’t need to upset the people that aren’t able to do it any more then they already are.
Go to Queensdale and enter a door, there is a bunch of Halloween stuff there.
Or talk to the Aura in Lion’s Arch with the pumpkin over her head.
Whatever your doing is probably just a minor event.
That’s no an Easter egg, it’s a bug where you got somewhere you shouldn’t
Easter eggs are intended hidden jokes and references placed by developers for players to find.
Also are those settings extremely low or are you caught in an area with a strange shader?
I got the bug on my Charr.
Asura finished it just fine.
The ACTUAL DEVELOPER of this puzzle, Josh Foreman, put a comment on youtube saying that he only expected 5% of the players to be able to make this. So this is your “friendly” approach to players without high-end computers, anet? To casual players?
No kidding. They deliberately and happily alienated 95% of their entire player base only 2 months after game launch, in a Holiday event which everyone always looks forward to no less! WTF? This certainly does NOT bode well concerning their attitude towards their players in the future.
Alienated? How the hell do you figure that? I finished it. My friend did not. Then afterwards we did other Halloween events and eventually ran Arah exp together. We were both just as strong as before hand, we both could access the same areas, and we both enjoyed the events. Only difference is that I had an orange bar in the Achievements log.
I’ve said this on another thread but I’ll say it here too. It is my opinion that they seem to have it in their minds to milk the players for a couple years for real life money while investing as little as possible themselves….just enough to keep us around a while but only until we start dwindling away after about two years. I do not seriously think they have a long term goal in mind for this game. This is a cash cow for quick and relatively easy income and profit. I am open to changing this view if given enough evidence to the contrary but things like the ever present and unfixed camera issues, the fast-food like holiday content with no real planning on their part for the issues which would be very easy to gauge simply based on a little homework in what works and doesn’t in every MMO out there for these types of Holiday events, the nerf it rather than fix it when it comes to clipping issues, etc. If this holiday event is going to be indicative of the future…yeeeaaah, I won’t be around long nor will I sink very much of my real life money into the game.
Hyperbole.
Predicting/Forecasting is another term for Guessing.
If by “another term for” you actually mean “the complete opposite of” then you are correct.

a. To predict (a result or an event) without sufficient information.Refer back to the predict/guess argument. You aren’t handed down a walk-through or layout of the puzzle in front of you. Instead you are manually doing it Indiana Jones style, and therefore without sufficient information you are left to memorize the route on your own while also having others block your view if your in a group of tall races and yours is at a disadvantage.
You know how far your character can jump.
You know how far a platform is.
That is sufficient information to predict a jump.

Mad King's Tower is Too Hard (edit: It is hard but i mostly posted this topic out of frustration)

If it’s not fun don’t do it.
Waah! This video game is difficult! Waah!
Grow up.
It’s not poorly designed puzzle, and it’s not impossible.
It’s also entirely optional, and you get very little for actually doing it so you’re not missing anything skipping it.
It’s for those of us that want to do a challenge that is difficult because it is difficult.
If you are fast enough to have to wait for the second explosion, you are rewarded with a chest. You should have time to open it if you’re that quick.
No and No.
/15char
Way I hear it: They all drop from the various chests in the Maze. You were lucky to get the Chest armor.
I only need the achievement.
Okay I see the problem here.
Achievements are not things you need, they are things you optionally earn.
If you can get all the achievements without being any good at the game, then they are just fluff pops up on the screen every now and again to give you exp.
If you can’t earn it, don’t get it. It’s as simple as that.
Not true… I failed to get through it thus far… failed miserably in fact and am continuing to do so! However, I am glad to see that ANet is adding things to the game that are challenging and that people have a hard time with. What kind of game is fun if nothing is hard? Not my type of game anyway. What are achievements worth if you can get them in your sleep? Very very little, imo.
I never said the reverse was true.
Anyone notice that the only ones saying that there are no issues with difficulty or body blocking issues are the ones that actually got through it?
Anyone notice that the only ones saying there are issues with difficulty are the ones that failed to get through it?
Because not everyone wants something handed to them for performing trivial tasks.
Some of us want to have to be good at something to earn a reward.
That’s why many people play video games.
Oh. Well to there then!
Human
Mesmer
No speed.
Countless times. About 30 minutes in total time.
I agree that blocking is a problem.
All players should probably be disguised as something.
A mouse/rat would be fitting.
Would I get boots every time or can I get the other Mad King gear?
No.
I finished it and I felt like I really achieved something because of how difficult it was.
The difficulty makes it rewarding, without it it’s just a farm.
And if so, how often?
Warden – 31 Seconds
Duelist – 39 Seconds
Swordsman – 34 Seconds
How long it took each Illusion to kill a stationary training Golem in the Mists with pvp weapons.
Considering the Warden is stationary this means Swordsman seems the best (also the sword 4 is very strong).
However the Warden can reflect projectiles. This comes at the high cost of a bunch of trait points that could go elsewhere. But where else?
Finally, Duelsts have the advantage of long range, and not having to keep up with the target as much if they move. They also tend to last longer.
I just can’t decide.
(edited by ToxicToothpick.4396)
3 Wardens inside a Time Warp is still one of the greatest things I have ever seen.
Sadly, with the nerf (though it was justified) it’s significantly less of a spectacle and I think I might call Duelist my favorite again.
Wardens animation is still pretty great though.
PS: Is Phantasmal Haste still worth using?
It seems to only knock a fraction of a second off now, and most Illusions don’t last for a second hit anyways.
Pistol or Sword offhand?
The Sigil is currently in my Focus, and it triggers off of my 1 and 2 quite frequently.
This seems to work quite well actually.
The heals are tiny and uncommon, but they are able to keep Phantasms and Clones alive through lesser AoE, sometimes through Poisions/Bleeds/Burning, and can even buy an extra hit or two.
What are your thoughts on this?
PS: This is for PvE.
PPS: Currently I only have the Rune in my offhand. If I stick one in both hands will it stack? It seems more useful the the elemental damage on hit.

It seems I am not allowed to scrap vender whites anymore, so where the heck am I supposed to obtain vast amounts of wool while level 80?
Gear drops scale up, past wool levels, due to my level and without vendor scrapping I don’t see any way to get it in bulk beyond the TP.
(I’d rather scrap for monthly anyways)
Phantasms being untargetable, not using up slots, not shattering, and only lasting a short duration would be preferable.
Clones need to stay targetable for them to have any reason to exist.
2 Second cast.
180 Second Cooldown.
Only shares particles with Mass Invisibility, so if you see a Mesmer casting it, just dodge right before it finishes and now it’s on a CD for the rest of the match.
Seems like a good idea to me.
Where do you get the set?
If I could check the stats I could give a more decisive answer.
Mass Invisibility might work better if it were exempt from the 5 target maximum limit.
Even then it would be rather weak.
What Trait makes it reflect?
Just gave Warden a shot.
Going to use Focus now.
I thought they did LESS damage then Duelist, as would make sense, because they are trading DPS for the utility of projectile protection.
But nope, they do more.
And with Phantasmal Haste they seem to do it more often.
The difference between other Leaps and Illusionary Leap is that other leaps still propell you forward even if out of range. If out of range for IL, it goes on CD and does nothing at all.
That and other leaps don’t have a cast time.
I use Sword/Pistol and Staff.
It’s not an easy set up, because for maximum damage you need to use both during each fight. The general idea is to use Sword/Pistol whenever possible, while having Warlock and Chaos Storm on CD as much as possible (even if it makes some staff autoattacks). Use Duelists to fill up slots till Warlock is ready, but keep one Duelist around for semi-reliable bleeds.
As for gear, I use Perception and Power stuff, Condition damage is nice but the Warlock will crit for upwards for 4700 so Power/Crit seems to work better.
Pistol can be replaced with Focus if you want to trade damage for utility.
Mesmer damage is good once the ball is rolling and they have all their Phantasms out.
Fights with frequent and constant AoE they tend to under perform due to Phantasms dying too fast.
Also with Blink and Portal they can assist players with dungeon traps if the player is having trouble. Blink makes some things quite easy too (disarming traps in AC for example, and avoiding crushers in SE)
Feedback is invaluable in some fights. The fire golem boss in SE will occasionally fire missles out in all directions, and with a feedback on him they ALL reflect back for 4000 or so damage 16 times, while also saving your friends who can have respite from a barrage.
They could use some more front-loaded damage (nerf Phantasms, buff Mesmer abilities) but they’re fine.
Also Time Warp is very helpful.
- Illusions that die as a result of thier target no longer being alive should use /bow before they die (their death coming near the end of the animation)
Amusing and clever. I like it.
For Illusionary Leap, what if it used the Flash mechanic instead of leaping, and used positioning to deceive the opponent? For example, “Flash to the side of your opponent, creating a clone on the opposite side. 50/50 chance of flashing to the left or right.” The randomness may not be the best way to go about it, but that would create a moment of hesitation in your opponent each time, plus it would allow you to use the ability at point blank range without your clone getting immediately attacked adjacent to you.
That would work as well, but the actual leap animation in GW2 is so badarse that it would be prefered. If you and the clone do it? Twice the badarse.
