Lead by example/don’t trust any pug with home. How you get pugs to play is by taking home and properly rotating in order to force them to copy. Can’t control other players. So do the part you trust them least, yourself.

You had to earn starting in amber this season… it’s not to keep you down, it’s to tier you with/against equivalent skill players. If you scored into amber, and are continuing to struggle playing in amber, the clear message is operator error. Everyone who wins and ranks up went through a time when it was stomp after stomp after stomp. Then they learned from those mistakes and began turning the tide against mmr. Be patient, take your lumps, get better. Divisions not a persistent progression bar; pips are an account of your ability to achieve in current play conditions against others doing the same thing.

Hello friends!

Well I reinstalled the game a few days ago and imagine my surprise when I found out grenades aren’t meta anymore! After something like 3 years it finally happened! I was so happy! But then I discovered that the new Engi meta is some boring tanky build mashing 111211113111114111115111111 with the hammer. Screw that I say! I’d rather go back to grenades. So I messed around with a few builds and came up with this!

Playing the build is simple. You want to try to set up your burst combo every time it’s off cooldown. Load up a bunch of might stacks > Stun with Hammer 5 > Grenade Barrage > Either Rocket Charge for dazes or Electro Whirl for faster damage.

When Barrage is on cooldown, just mash grenades onto the point and/or at people. Grenades will do fair damage with might stacks. If it’s safe-ish in a large fight or if you’re in a small fight, leap in with hammer 3 and hammer 2 for a quick burst. If people focus you, disengage with blocks, invuln, and stealth.

Your goal is to run from point to point, +1 in fights and blow people up. Literally!

Tips:

  • Toss Elixir B in conjunction with the Mass Momentum trait in the Scrapper line will give you 8-9 might stacks. Crazy!
  • Tornado will give you 10 might stacks with Mass Momentum. If you pop Elixir X and don’t get Rampage, you can stay in Tornado for some extra might, wait until you knock someone back, then quickly exit Tornado form and start your burst attacks.
  • Rampage will also give you might. Stack some might before you use Elixir X. That way if you get Rampage, you’ll keep building might and once you go over 10 stacks of might, Applied Force will give you quickness. Quickness Rampage is hilarious.
  • 1v1 at your own risk. If someone is super tanky with sustain, don’t even bother unless you can lead with a successful stealth burst. They’re butts for playing that build anyway.
  • Hammer 5 and Grenade Barrage almost have the same cooldown. If one is up, the other probably will be too.
  • IDK if it’s just me, but they really reduced the visibility and the audio for Swirling Winds and added projectile hate to a lot of new and existing skills so pay attention and don’t waste your grenades.

Variants:

  • Some people in my stream chat said people don’t use Sigil of Fire anymore and opt for Sigil of Blood instead. If that tickles your fancy, go for it!
  • Adaptive Armor over Applied Force. If you’re having trouble surviving against Thieves, Revenants, and Necros (your counters) take this.
  • Before I started using this, I had Tool Kit instead of Elixir B and Traveler Runes for move speed. Your damage noticeably isn’t as high but you get two blocks. And fun times with Magnet.

Dude I love the schtick, but why would you do this to yourself? I’m sure it works against people playing alts for ascension achievements, but is this supposed to be power? Condi? Alot of wasted utility slots imo, and alot of foregone sustain in hopes that your rotation goes just so.

As is, this would give us viable builds using all available engi weapons. None of this holographic projector that can be carried or dropped or w/e

Let me sum up these rants: either combine turrets and gyros, or let gyro replace turrets. Neither can be realistically useful while the other exists. I know engi is supposed to be hodgepodge of all the other classes, but maybe rebrand scrapper ‘demolitionist’ combine pros and cons of turrets/gyros, and give a kitten nades/bombs trait synergizing with vulnerability, or even blindness. Blindness pushes that FT juggernaut agenda anet seems to want, but if you think hammer skills are boring… camping ft is exhausting. Only viable in new meta with p/p scrapper set up. <——still doesn’t apply enough ‘covering’ condi compared to other condi builds; say like a torment mes.

If they did this, it would be whilst stabbing the already not stellar gyro stats in the back with nerfnyfe. We aren’t getting fast-following turrets. The QQ would be too much

Irony would be ridiculous op with hgh. EG mortar builds would run rampant as engineers are able to apply almost constant retaliation/light aura while being healed by incoming dmg from these boons. I only play engi, and will be the first to say that seeing walls of flame thrower wielding, partially launching engineers smash into eachother sounds too legit to quit. A few times. Then it’s old news, except nothing else would be viable against such a beast except the already ridiculous 12 stacks of torment shatter mes.

Gyro build not the most effective scrapper build for wvw. Case closed. Even if I bring sneak or bulwark into a roaming group, I still use them to track back and forth across enemy in a tight circuit. P/p condi scrapper using sustain traits is very strong atm. Spec/gear to negate dd, and focus defensive play around cleanses. Blow torch, rocket boots. Run circles – literally ‘rinse’ and repeat. Your primary dmg is on short kitten cooldown, so the timing comes down to cleanses and covering condi cooldowns. Sigil of torment works great in this build.

Idk. I like the gyros tracking mechanic. It feels like another ‘tick-mark’ on the list of things I know I need to pay attention to. Terrain has an effect on my flying drones that also basically have to get somewhere in the vicinity of my current node for me to make use of.

Imho: 1. If you are fighting in an area too large for your bulwark, sneak, or blast gyro to do their job i.e. anywhere that isn’t directly contesting/defending a node area. You are doing it wrong. 2. Can you even imagine instacast or even track able animations with increased speed? Gyro’s would be what we really want: orbiting arbiters of manipulable defense and offense.

I enjoyed last meta thoroughly. I do not find hammer playstyle bring or restrictive. I find it to be a game of risk vs reward on what to have on cooldown when. I might up blast gyro and final salvo damage by like 5-10%. Otherwise, I finally feel like I have to outplay maneuverable players instead of just plow through and spam finishers in water field. Engi 4 lyfe

It is only an issue for pvp, and it’s really not that bad. Of the two increased cast times, I think sneak gyro makes less sense. The other gyros insta activate, why does sneak have cast time?

I could definitely get on board with this. I understand the need to continue encouraging Hot sales, but sacrifice the other power weapon. Make pistols viable. I would vote a trait or two in scrapper that has pistol ammo piercing, or what not. P/p condi scrapper is so so close to being a thing. Give it the nudge anet.

P/p condi scrapper. Rabid stats, runes of undead. Blow torch. Rocket boots, EG, bulwark gyro, sneak gyro or elixir x. Scrapper is kitten viable in wvw. Just not with a hammer.

I solo towers with this and often win 1v2 while roaming.

Yeap, I have run 7 games with B. Against direct damage like warriors and thieves, it’s very effective. Also pretty handy when the insanity of shatter torment mes hits me like a truck. It is not the pick against necro right now though. And there are still a ton out there. They proc corruption on your elixir and you’re gonna have a bad time. I also find that while the reflection is very effective against wars and thieves, I can achieve 17/21 seconds uptime on retaliation and light aura + the straight dmg absorption of bulwark. This is the way to go against power rev.

So I have gotten kinda used to gyros and the related acoutrement. I like the ‘easy’ playstyle based on precise timing and familiarity with how my chosen utilities proc in certain terrains. I wanted to keep the ball rolling, so I tried this:

Demolisher’s amulet
Rune of the water

Hammer
Sigil of air
Sigil of blood

Inventions 2, 1, 2
Alchemy 2, 3, 3
Scrapper 2, 3, 2

EG, blast gyro, bulwark gyro, sneak gyro

Yes it is old meta build with 3 changes.
Yes it is essentially what I played into t2 legendary. YoloQ. With only amulet changed.

Try it, use properly and keep your light field on cooldown. Counter warriors like you would a decent power rev, or competent condi ranger, depending on yiur read of the warrior. Get used to being at 2/3 health instead of full health through prolonged fights, you’re still alive. Disengage, reset more often, and sooner in fights where you aren’t dominating outright. Blast gyro is your homeboy. Keep him on cooldown. Lost first 4 games after patch, and one bungled stronghold guild mission last night. Guild mission excluded, I would be on a 24 game win streak. So it’s working, at least for now. Enjoy

Gyros are nice and cover their function (they are minion type skill – like guard weapons or necro minions or ele elementals). You call them, they hang out a while and blow up.
I’d love to see the shredder have a rework, yes (maybe follow you around and/or reflect projectiles?) but don’t go well with signet type of skill…

Our gadgets don’t really fill the role either, they are (or should be) more like physical skills, short CD small effect skills (blocks, stun breaks, CC, etc).

For engi signets, would be nice to have “bionics”, inventions that you use to improve yourself with passive effects and can overcharge for a great result, loosing the passive bonus on CD, as signets do. Weapon of the Espec could be sword. We need another main hand weapon, power based.

So you want to be a cyborg looking guardian, but with kits too…… let’s give us a teleport, second health bar, and weapon swap too!

Scrapper is op. Every gyro, minus shredder, is situationally op and generally viable overall. The required skill cap of when and where to activate each gyro in different terrains is the ‘hard part’. Adapt and overcome, it’s not the class’ error. Anyone not able to carry more often than not using scrapper is experiencing operator error.

YoloQ’ed to legendary. Found season 2 far more accomodating for a filthy casual like myself. Dishonor doesn’t touch pips, don’t knock us 2 pips for kitten we can’t control, pick ruby or diamond as seperation division. Both are just painful and horribly discouraging. Make ruby more forgiving, and make diamond worse; my 2 cent vote.

I totally get where the feedback loop is probably designed to prevent staging self-res. This is just something I think about often in downed state. I would sacrifice an entire trait node to be able to function gyro myself.

[P/P with Gyros] is very effective if you know how to use your condi application to cover burning. Also the build allows you to take a punch. Or 3. Can always stack might, + toughness bonus proc. It works. Not meta, but can beat metabuild in right hands.

I use roughly this build for WvW roaming and it does work. I personally use Sinister w/ Berserker runes, trade E.Gun for FT+Kinetic Battery and run Last Salvo over AA to compensate for the stun break loss (you still have Reactive Lenses, stealth and 12s Stability).

Place your cover condis (Pistol 235), stack your burns quickly (Rocket Kick, Pistol 4, FT34) and then run or pressure with Pistol 1. If they cleanse it, try again in 15 seconds (Pistol 4/Rocket Kick cds) or 45 seconds (Gyros+Kinetic Battery+Incen. Ammo cds). Use your Function Gyro to stomp.

Hah, I use it in wvw too. My playstyle supports small groups at most. I enjoy roaming, I also don’t have the patience to grind sinister/viper recipes. It’s actually a build I played pre Hot in spvp with surprisingly effective results. Power builds are just not something I worry about, can stack even more sustain with rabid stats. Have definitely taken down 2v1 power rev in wvw, and if you are careful it’s capable of downing necro. Particularly effective against ele.

I like EG>all because of the low cooldown light field. 3 blast finishers and defensive field means dh kill them selves more often than not. Thieves, same deal. Bounce shot is also surprisingly OP.

I like your build for zerg, it’s got the deeps. I will eventually get around to grinding the recipes, and yours is probably what I would use for pve or raid. I use scrapper line purely for the sustain. Dont have to worry about aggro in wvw so undead to stack toughness which dumps a little more mmph into condi dmg. I have a variation I play with FT too, depends on what I’m doing and how stealthy I need to be. If I am soloing a tower, bulwark ftw. If I am running and gunning, FT. I usually keep bulwark slotted unless I’m grouped, just in case I cross path with necro.

Ugh, you say rarely. I say fixed. I have intentionally been trying to proc self res with gyro on enemies and allies alike, I cannot seem to get it to pick up that second task. It will sit there floating, almost seem to consider it, then gone. How do I prioritize my own downed state? Just be luckier?

The only 1v1 scenario where I have consistent problems is against a well handled condi/torment mesmer. 7+ stacks of torment on what feels like 0 cooldown. I can stand there and die, or run and die. It’s fun to have choices

I hear you. Thing is, it knocks them back anyways. Idk if bug or the coding definition of whatever action it is means it works. All I know is it consistently puts their kitten in the dirt, takes a chunk, and sets me up for a melt rotation. It’s cd is so fast, even if they evade or destroy it, I just kite and rely on bulwark, then try again

Unsung hero of scrapper pvp: blast gyro.

Switch slick shoes out for blast gyro. Run HT, bulwark, EG, sneak gyro. I know.

No, really, I know. Try it. Just give it a whirl. Test it out in a custom arena or unranked against your favorite OP reaper of any flavor. As soon as shroud pops, so do bulwark and blast gyro. Blast gyro aoe knock back through shroud, plus 2k dmg, to interrupt with thunder clap. At this point you can do one of two things; rocket charge and try to burst down shroud and apply daze, or drop super elixir right next to lightning field. Important you don’t do too close, acid bomb in light field (usually the reaper is desperately trying to burst you down and apply vulnerability at this point). Hammer 2, fumigate, bounce shot, then rocket charge inside light field for light aura and another big burst. If they aren’t running or dead, repeat dps rotation, fumigate, HT. You will also be able to proc another blast gyro somewhere in there for anothe 2k+ aoe knock back that goes THROUGH shroud.

A version of this carried me to diamond. This that I just broke down during smoke break carried me through.

PvP with that build? Are you crazy? You play with people, not solo. The scrapper is the best support class for a team. Look my build, dude. Ahm, yes, use hammer I remember you the nº5 is stun on area 1200 range.

I mean, I would play his jugg. mess before I try this spec. In your ‘team’ with specific 5/5 composition, sure this could work, sometimes. As displayed by your initial team fight loss at mid. After the fast forward on first 4 mins of match, it becomes apparent that the enemy team is awful. The dh you beat 1v1 wasn’t even using a trap build.. Any awake warrior could have aa him down. He is the only one consistently trying to contest mid, and has almost no clue how to do so to begin with.

The rest of enemy team is staggering 1 or 2 players far/home for easy kill farm. Obviously pug on enemy side, and zero pregame or communication. Gl with this oddbuild, I hope you find it a home in ruby. Fyi, blast gyro for legendary soloQ. Unsung hero.

Asleep is how I now counter reapers. Only dangerous in numbers or with proficient thief escort. I do it everyday in t5-6 of diamond, so no thanks to niche use elixir c.

Mesmer the real problem.

I use either paladin or marauder amulet + water or holebrak rune.

Insulting me doesn’t make my direct counter to reaper any less effective.

Very, very carefully…

If the reaper is as good as the scrapper, he’s probably going to win no matter what. As above said, reapers hardcounter scrappers. Condi pistol/pistol might deal a ton of damage fast but as soon as you get condi transfered you kill yourself. Power hammer will just be kited for a while and then mowed down if melee/ds happens.

I have had some intense reaper fights lasting a good while on my hybrid gyro pistol/pistol build but in the end my thought is always that I was simply the better player. He could have won. I have seen reapers roflstomp me by barely even doing anything.

Reaper kite a power hammer scrapper? Lel, I pray I run into reapers that dumb.

I am telling you, burst their health down until they pop shroud. Proc bukwark, and blast gyro, stack retaliation and light aura, block and heal. Their shroud will be gone, you will be full health, and their normal health bar melts fast. Control heals with poison from EG. Ttying to run a condi build against a reaper in spvp is slow suicide.

Engage close, get off dps skills (hammer 2, 3, aa1)

Switch EG hit with 3, 2, aa1. Drop light field on top of necro, acid bomb, then cancel leap. Hammer 3 should be off, or close to off CD, try to have all leap finishers within the light circle. This combo gives you 8s retaliation followed by 9s I think of light field. By now, you should have done enough dmg that necro pops corruption and reaper shroud. And this is where timing turns these into easy fights.

As soon as reaper pops, drop bulwark gyro, tag reaper with blast gyro. Blast gyro is the quiet hero these days. Close quarters it is a high dmg aoe knock back that people just aren’t looking to deflect. Plus side, if you miss the dart, gyro will hit closest enemy and prob hit target anyways. Amazing against reaper. High damage, puts their dps literally in the dirt, and you have solid 3’s to wreck their shroud, use blast gyro gratuitously as its cd is short. Final Salvo obviously. Makes the 3 gyro with eg build very viable. Use eg3 to stop druid heals, blast gyro can be used to take them down as well. Currently, only class that stands up consistently to scrapper is a well played torment mes.

My pve/open world set up;

Full zojja’s armor, flip flop toughness or vit for play style. I like to model my open world guy as marauder/scrapper.
-toughness for more dps, vit for more versatility

Mix of knight’s, berserker’s, 1 piece assassin’s for accessories. I carry one with condi dmg and one extra toughness so I can be lazy switching builds.

Key is build spec.
Dps rifle
Explosives 1, 3, 2
Tools 2, 3 , 2
Firearms 1, 3, 2 or 1 depending on how much you solo

Scrapper version
Dps hammer/rifle

Disclaimer: I think losing is no fun. That being said, I soloQ’d to diamond. I may have gotten better, but I could not broach t3 of ruby in s1, soloQ. This season is definitely easier. Ranked mmr just tipped 54.3% after a serious losing streak last week, and a minor win-streak today. There is some kind of leniency, imho, in this season compared to last.

Getting ‘stuck’ in ruby is a very important topic regarding how best league should operate. We changed matchmaking to make the ladder more prestigious and so far it has done that. Divisions are aligning with skill level much better than season 1. The product of this change is that the bulk of players who hover around the middle of the mmr curve should stay in sapphire and ruby. Win rate will level out at 50% because there are plentiful players of similar mmr in the same division.

Should average players be able to climb out of the middle divisions by grinding? This removes prestige and can make matchmaking worse within a division, but always allows a sense of progression.

Should average players stay in the middle divisions because that’s where they belong at their skill level? This retains prestige and only improving skill will allow climbing, but rewards and progression stop at some point through the season.

Is there an incentive that could be added to league games for players who have reached their appropriate division and can no longer climb?

What about those of us who don’t switch classes and fight the topple-of-balance with each patch? ATM, more than 1 class can carry, but noone doubts the supremacy of a well handled reaper. For that matter: DH, Scrapper, support Druid, healing ele. Stick a dps thief on the hip of any of these, OP.

Warriors, with very specific builds, are viable. Anyone not a sniping warrior, the struggle looks real from the outside.

I’m not screaming for balance amongst classes, or an MMR nerf. If you want to be lol, or dota, do it. Seperate spvp from the ‘normal’ game. More. Dictate boundaries, builds, compositions for competitive play. Let the outlier be that guy. Make ppl master the set of skills at hand, in their chosen class, instead of embracing the meta hopper build.
