Parallel Universes. I’m not joking.

That would explain a lot of what was going on with Auris as well. What if the Rifts are not just moving someone through space but also (through the mists) to a alternate reality? And now let’s grab our tinfoil heads for a second, what if our REAL world is just another reality in the mists, that once upon a time, had magic in it but is was all consumed buy elder dragons. O.o

mindblown

Lascax’s long theorycrafting post above seems to suggest that different worlds (home servers) in the game could be lore-bound as parallel universes, so yeah, that’s sort of feasible. Would be a little more strength to the theory if Auris disappeared from one instance of Fields of Ruin and appeared in another, and kept cycling through them whilst only ever appearing in one at a time (but that’d be a pain, gameplay-wise, if you were trying to do the rift events near there).

Maybe ‘the first one’ is just a generic historian. I found this one in Sparkfly Fen, and he looks quite familiar..

Intriguing. I’ll confess I’ve not paid much attention to the consistency of NPC appearances unless they’re major characters, so I wonder how often this fluctuating face thing happens.

- Anomalies started to appear in the world after Mordy’s energy wave got through the Leylines. they mostly run away and they appear sad sometimes, even as a temporary mirage.

With those points, I think that Anomalies are just people stranded in the Mists that could not get back like Revenants. That’s why they’re mostly sad and rarely counter-attack. In fact when we transform as anomalies, we’re hostile to the others and we did cross some unstable rifts to cause that. Moreover, if we get back into the body we left in place, we’re back to normal.
But does it mean that all anomalies are people trying to get back in their bodies and that they could eventually do so? I THINK NOT. My speculation is that this explains WvWs maps in the Mists. Think about them: there’re armies that get arranged from time to time that battles each other in a plane that’s between the Mists. This means that parallel universes are real and that maybe those anomalies are people but NOT from our universe. Maybe even one universe where Tyria did fall into the Mists.

We’re killing people who got lost into the Mists from other universes.

I’m not entirely sold on this, though the rest is interesting theory to ponder; the fact that the sad anomalies are client-side was, I thought, something to do with the player character’s own mental instability (due to leyline fluctuations or whatever) and that happened before the Shadowstone was used.

The player anomalies are something new, though, and when referring exclusively to them you may be onto something.

Thanks for all the theorycrafting guys, really interesting!

We’d thought for a while that his appearance was due to whether or not you were carrying the Reforged Shadowstone in your inventory, but after further testing it looks like it’s randomised each time you go in — sometimes he’s Canthan, sometimes ginger, may have nothing at all to do with the story per se … or maybe the player character is just going crazy.

In “Burden of Choice”, you talk to Historian Tranton in the Durmand Priory at least twice. Once after talking to Ogden, and then again after you’ve been waylaid by the Consortium rep.

My guildie and I, who were partied up whilst doing these events, noticed something really weird. Talking to Tranton for the first time showed him as a youngish-looking Canthan man — black hair, Asian features, mask over the lower half of his face.

When we came back after talking to the Consortium rep, we honestly didn’t notice what sort of face he had, but in the same instance I chose to have him use the Shadowstone on me. Cue crazy light show. And after THAT: he appeared as a ginger-haired Caucasian in perhaps his forties or fifties. See screenshot attached!

My guildie, who was piggybacking on my instance, did not choose either of the final options, instead opting to hold off for a few days. And when we switched places and I piggybacked on his instance, Tranton appears consistently as the ginger guy.

Anyone else notice this? Is it just a bug, or is this part of the story somehow?

Karma diminishing returns (DR) in Wintersday

@Electro — Yeah, I haven’t managed to work out why sometimes you get a bulk lot of karma, and other times it shows up in multiple lots. But you may be right about the ‘reward for the first few times’ thing. Thanks for responding!

Karma diminishing returns (DR) in Wintersday

in Living World

Posted by: kaede.4751

kaede.4751

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this whilst doing Wintersday activities.

I just did a 16-min run of Winter Wonderland, and my first two or three runs gave me about 6800 karma (using snowglobe booster, candy cane, and karma banner). Then it dropped off sharply to around 1360 karma per run. The same happened in Bell Choir after a few songs.

Might be just me, but … if that’s diminishing returns in action, isn’t it kind of harsh? That’s a huge drop-off, especially if it occurs mid-instance instead of, say, after the first time you complete a full instance of an activity.

I’m not too bothered about it (1300+ karma per anything is still pretty decent, and I’m not actively farming it) but was just thinking about it, and wondering if this is par for the course as far as DR implementation goes.

Thoughts?

kaede.4751

Can’t really comment on #1 and #3, but as for #2, are these areas that you actually MUST stand on in order to proceed in the puzzle? Because if not, it’s probably working as intended. Not every visible thing in the game has a collision box, and if you’re not even meant to be there, chances are there won’t be anything to support you.

Highlighted screenshots of problematic areas would probably help the devs, as would info on whether or not those areas are ALWAYS missing collision, or only sometimes; what exactly you have to do to get there; which race/profession your character is and/or which armour they’re using (in case there’s a problem with the character’s collision rather than the puzzle’s); if you were using any skills or were just walking; etc.

Good luck.

Enchanted map 3rd piece

The other possibility is that the Map Pieces actually work like the Wintersday ornament scavenger hunt. The type of map that drops is determined by the TYPE of chest (i.e. Sylvari, Asuran, Charr etc.)

That’d make sense, actually, because you’d find the majority of e.g. Asuran chests in Asuran lands. But if so, it’s odd that nobody’s mentioned it before.

Serious Error when closing game/logging off

The only thing I thought might be causing it is I run the steam overlay

I don’t have any answers, but just wanted to mention that I use the overlay (as in, I actively use it to browse and chat during GW2 sessions, not just “I run GW2 through Steam”) and haven’t had this issue. I’ve had the odd crash since launch, yes, but not repeated crashes on exit.

Without knowing how to decode the crash dump, I will add that I use Windows 7 64-bit, not sure if that makes any difference whatsoever. If you have a different OS, there may be a conflict somewhere with the way Steam’s overlay is implemented.

Good luck.

The map pieces generally drop more often from chests in their respective zones, but players have reported “wanderer” map pieces dropping from chests outside their zones too. So it seems there’s a small chance of getting a completely random map piece from any chest.

That explains a lot. o_O I did one run of Drydock Scratch recently and got three different Enchanted Map scraps, which confused me quite a bit.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Outfits-randomly-revert-to-original-colors/first#post4526549

In short, no fix yet. Assuming your bug is the same as theirs — i.e. you’ve swapped outfits at least once without changing the dye, and at the next zone/relog the dyes revert to default — at least you know how to work around it (just change one of the dyes and then change it back before you exit that zone or logout, to make sure the dyes stick).

If it’s NOT the same bug, then please provide as much detail as possible, preferably with a step-by-step “this is exactly what I did and this is exactly what happened” procedure.

Ranger "Read the Wind" bugs autoattack

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: kaede.4751

kaede.4751

So far as I’m aware, there’s no different between a moving and stationary target for this attack unless they’re dodging … but the OP is right, your character will stop auto-attacking if the target is out of the usual range (1200 or whatever it is). It will only resume auto-attacking once the target moves within that range, or you move closer, etc. You can manually press 1 (or whatever your auto key is for the first skill) to keep using that skill on the target, and it will hit, but that kind of defeats the purpose of locking it on auto-attack.

I’ve kind of gotten used to just spamming 1 when that happens, but it can be irritating, so it’d be nice to see it fixed.

chest Chaos crystal cave

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

kaede.4751

Weyandt’s Revenge (Sharkmaw in LA) apparently has the same chest ID as Chaos Crystals. Only one of the two can be opened per day.

This has been reported before (although you can’t search back without external Google searches), and unfortunately is still not fixed.

Never mind forum search, it’s mentioned in the wiki (probably easier to keep tabs on it there ^^):

Bug: The Chaos Crystal Cavern Grand Chest is shared with the Weyandt’s Revenge Magnificent Chest. When one is opened, so is the other.

People were having similar issues with the Buried Archives jp in Cursed Shore, so presumably that’s part of a bugged pair as well.

Note that you don’t have to do specific jps to get these ornaments. Just make sure that you’re opening the right KIND of chest. For example, most people were doing Buried Archives to get the Orrian chest. I got my Gold Ball ornament (or whichever one it was) from an Orrian chest at the bottom of Hope Falls in Malchor’s Leap, which isn’t a jp at all. So have a look around, or rack your brains for any other chests that look like the one you’re trying to get, and try those other locations instead.

Good luck.

Were you just in the normal home instance, or a personal story instance within the home area? Were you lagging anywhere else in the game? Which character(s) were you using? What were you doing in the instance when you noticed the lag? Were you just moving, jumping, using skills, staring at dialogs … ? Does it happen every time you enter your home instance, or was it a one-off? Does it happen in any OTHER instance (inside a city OR out of it)?

More detail always helps get bugs fixed. Good luck.

Pretty sure OP said they couldn’t destroy the generators. ‘Why’ is another matter … more detail would have helped, e.g. could they not destroy the generators because they were untargetable?, etc.

Aodan, if you’re checking this thread, it’d be helpful if you described exactly what you encountered and where the problem was.

Warming Grawnk's Heart never get ornaments

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: kaede.4751

kaede.4751

To reiterate the information posted elsewhere, you need chests that have the:

  • Asura design, found in some Metrica JPs
  • Sylvari design, found in some Caledon JPs
  • Orrian design, found in Orr.
  • Human design, found in some Kryta JPs, including Sharkmaw (but not the other LA puzzles iirc).
  • Charr design, found in some Ascalon JPs.

For anyone else who’s still trying to get all their ornaments, Drydock Scratch is actually a good option. Pretty much every time I run that jp, I’ll get two Mysterious Grubby Packages. I did that a few days in a row, got six, opened them all after I unlocked the collection and it gave me four of the Wintersday ornaments. I didn’t pay attention to the types of chests I was opening but either there’s a greater variety of chest types there than I realised, or it’s actually not as cut-and-dried as “you must open this kind of chest to get this ornament”.

The only ones I got outside of Drydock were the Sylvari one (from Spelunker’s Delve in Caledon Forest) and the Orrian one (at the bottom of Hope Falls in Malchor’s Leap).

Hope that simplifies things a bit, you really DON’T need to go haring all over Tyria for this …

Bell Choir Bugging Out

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: kaede.4751

kaede.4751

Has been reported multiple times.

Different people have found different workarounds. amikara’s one (which I could swear was in his/her post before but is now … not — anyway, basically, kill yourself by hitting random notes until you lose all HP, then it should work the next time you re-enter the stage to play) has worked for me at least once. Others have found that they need to wait for that entire instance to reset before it will work (so you can either leave and take your chances re-entering a non-bugged instance, or just leave and wait it out, go do something else for a while, and try again significantly later).

It is frustrating but not impossible to get around. Good luck.

As a side note, SkyShroud … you were DEFINITELY in the jumping puzzle at the time, right? Because if you fall and die anywhere else in that underground area, OUTSIDE the jp, they may or may not revive you, it’s not a given. You were definitely in the area with the milestones and flags and whatnot?

Silverwaste Skirtt Not Ressing

have you payed the skritt before hand?

You don’t have to pay them beforehand; they should be reviving dead players anywhere in the jp for free. You only need to pay them if you want to be teleported back to a given milestone and that’s AFTER you’ve been revived and gone to a skritt tunnel to reset. OP seems to have a genuine bug.

OP — would help the devs if you specified exactly where in the jp you were dying, which character you were playing with (race/profession/level — any of those might be relevant, more info never hurt anyone), were you using any particular skills when you fell and died?, does it happen every time?, etc.

Good luck.

Bug: Arcana Obscura Issues [merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: kaede.4751

kaede.4751

The Echoes of the Past episode totally broke when Tangled Paths was released.

If that’s the issue, it’s not 100% replicable — I did it with 3 of my characters ages ago with no problems, then just 2 or 3 days ago with my 4th, again no problems.

So if you want to report this as bug there needs to be some other info about how you were doing it: with a party member or solo? With any achievements already unlocked or not, and if so, which ones had you done? If it was in a party, what was the story AND achievement progress on each party member at the time? etc.

There have been enough of these bugs to know that often those bits of information are relevant to ‘broken’ LS episodes, so the more information you can give the devs, the better.

Good luck.

This occurs with other Wintersday events as well. Are you entering these events initially through the portal, or by talking to the NPC? Was talking to a friend about this and we both noticed it happening if we walked through the portal (and then tried to leave the instance) BUT if we talked to the NPC to get into the activity, it never occurred.

Give that a go and see.

I was thinking about it earlier today and thought that might be the cause. I do enter through the portal, and I’m wondering if the first time it tries to load you back into DR it simply throws you back through the portal. Easily fixed by making us load near the WP like the Jumping Puzzle does when you leave it.

Yup, except, I’ve had that happen with the JP even though it loads you near the WP. I’m not really sure what’s going on there with spawn points and so on, but either way, talking to NPCs for all activities has been the safest way I’ve found to avoid that bug.

This has already been reported a few times, but if all you want it for is the ornament, you don’t even have to get it from that jumping puzzle.

Go to the chest at the bottom of the waterfall in Malchor’s Leap (POI — “Hope Falls”), the one guarded by a Veteran Risen guy. You don’t have to kill him (just distract or stealth), the chest is just behind him and you can get the ornament from there (verified: that’s where I got mine).
