Are you kidding? There are players everywhere I go in this game.
Just this evening:
- WvW
- Shadow Behemoth
- Shatterer
Well, that’s the point isn’kitten All the players are funneled into a small parts of the world. This gives an ilusion of a big population in those places, but leaves other places empty. Try to visit Snowden Drifts someday, for example.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Yes, snowflakes, karka shells and charged crystals (that one is definitely the cheapest but longest) are an option, that’s true.
(and it took me a bit more than 10 weapons – not sure how much, but i do remember it was 9 weapons – each with discovery bonus – to get from 477 to 500)
Remember, remember, 15th of November
This is the best part: I main an elementalist so I need to max out weaponsmith and artificer.
Artificer will be cheaper, there are some relatively cheap potion recipes (powerful potion of nightmare slaying, for example) that can be used to get from 425 to 450 (to 425 you always get through refining ori and ancient wood, and by making dowels – you will need those later on anyway). The next several levels can be done through ascended mats refinement (though it does get slow soon, you will likely want to start crafting exotics long before you get to 475).
Unfortunately, levels 475-500 (and 425-450 on weaponsmith) can be done only through exotic weapon crafting. Try to craft different weapons (to get discovery bonus), and preferably do it in one go (with a craft booster, and a guild bonus if you can get it). Still going to cost a lot. At least you will be able to selll those weapons/salvage them for dark matter later on.
And ascended weapons are account bound, soulbound on equip.

Actually, they need not the recipe for inscription, but a recipe for the weapon/armor (since they seem to already posess inscriptions).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Do not count the straight damage difference. Count the percentage one. a 20 point difference on a 20k attack is insignificant, but on a 30 point attack would be massive, and you completely ignored that part.
Just to put it in relation: the base weapon difference already means a +5% damage increase. other stats can make it even better. Especially if you compare the whole exotic vs ascended sets, not only one piece of eq.

15 temple events and 25 dungeons is not hardcore if do it over time, like you said.
But then it goes extremely slow. We’re talking a few-months-per-piece slow. If ascended armor pieces will require similar amount of mats, that might be a year or two of casual gameplay. And in that time, unless some big design changes happen again, something better will be introduced.
If you hope to gain the gear in any reasonable time frame, it will require getting beyond casual gameplay.
ascended and legendary weapons dont have that much mats in common.
Raising the crafts to 500 is going to eat into your t6 mats reserves quite significantly.

The Cleric, as well as any other gear set with power as a seconday stat, CAN do more damage than a Berzerker IN SOME CASES (such as against bosses that cannot be Crit), BUT, NOT ALWAYS. Can it be any clearer to you?
Yes. As i said “unless the zerker is doing something wrong”. Using a useless buff certainly qualifies.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I hope it’s rare. We need items in game to be rare enough to entice people to do them.
Depends. If it’s too rare, it will just make people not care enough to try.
If it’s rare enough to cost, say, 300g on the TP, then yeah people will do it.
In order to it being worth anything, the drop chance needs to be reasonable. I fully expect that even if it will be sellable on TP (which i doubt, seeing as Anet likes to slap account-bound on everything lately), farming the gold for it will be much easier.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You don’t need full ascended to experience content in this game. Rares can work well for you and you can get a whole lvl 80 rare set in under 5g.
And since rares are not so much better than greens… in the end we can just go in whites, since the difference between tiers can be ignored.
Why we’re even wearing armor anyway?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Is there some limit to how fast you have to do this i’m not aware of? First off you can do 15 world events (not sure why you would only do temples when all world events give shards) in about 45 minutes, not really what I’d call even super casual, let alone hardcore.
Dungeons I agree are a little more work. If you do Cof 1/2 twice a day though it only takes 45 minutes for 6 days to get enough shards… not even a week of playing 45 minutes a day plus one day of an additional 45 minutes… Oh boy the shock and horror of the “hardcoreness” is overwhelming lol.
Well, yes, both doing 15 world events within 45 minutes and doing 4 dungeon paths daily is definitely a hardcore behaviour.
Basically, if you are actively farming the mats, then you have already moved past casual behaviour.

My whole argument before was in response to an uninformed post made earlier arguing over how much more useful Zerker’s are than Conditions, and I made the statement that Zerkers are actually worse than Soldier builds
Against uncrittable bosses that is true
and my Cleric can outdamage them in many cases, which the math just proved.
On the contrary, your math has shown that all other things being equal, Zerker build will outdamage the Cleric.
Which is, agains, besides the point. Against no-crit bosses Zerkers sacrifice their crit damage, but their base damage is still very high. This is not the case with CD builds.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Ah, but will it be the same after the patch?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The issue here is that Celestial gear already is over the “stat budget”. As it currently stands, the Celestial gear is worth more in raw stats than any other set ingame. Because these stat are widely spread, there are many cases where it will be weaker, but there are also many cases where it will be stronger.
Actually, no, there are practically no cases where it would be stronger. That’s the whole point.
So what people are arguing in this thread is that Celestial users were perfectly fine with gimping themselves and their team (even though plenty of people swore up and down Celestial was more than viable if you build right) because they personally benefited from the MF. But now that that benefit for themselves no longer exists, they refuse to use or feel weaker using Celestial and want compensation for the MF removal, even though the viability from a def/off combat stat point of view didn’t change at all…hmm, yeah.
Yes, exactly – the same as every other MF build there was.
And yet for some reason Celestials were treated differently.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
@Adine. Exactly. Thus, my question: What would be the purpose of being run to a high level?
Well, there was a case of low levels being planted at the rich ori location in Southsun when it still existed, that logged in just to harvest and logout. Maybe there are other such places still.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
yep, it’s RNG, and Anet is a pristine, pure, benevolent company that has never been proven to act questionably in their own favor. :roll eyes:
The previous time it was indeed a stealth nerf, but this time it really seems to be just a RNG case
(haven’t noticed any visible change to ecto salvage myself, though i do salvage mostly exotics lately, due to low supply of dark matter)
I’ve heard people talk in map chat where bosses don’t drop a single thing for them, champion bags don’t give them the new T7 resource at all when openned. It’s not just happening to me.
Well, only exotic boxes opened on a level 80 character give those, and when zergs are too big lot of people just don’t manage to get past the damage threshold, so both things are very possible, but are nothing that would suggest Anet messing with drop rates.

I have crafted 2 ascended weapons, and will soon have a third. I won’t be worried if armor crafting piece by piece requires a similar crafting process. You don’t have to be a hardcore player to get this stuff IMHO.
Let me now laugh at this sentence very long and hard. Just getting your craft (one, not all 3) up to level 500 requires some serious farming – even if you played from the very beginning, casual gameplay won’t get you enough mats for it. Then, you have to get lot of mats again for deldrimor/spiritwood (or blow a lot of cash on those), do over 20 temple/world boss events, and 25 dungeons. And kill over thirty champions. To craft one weapon.
Just how it is not hardcore?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Simple, your build is indeed a condition based DPS, but in that particular fight, because of the way the game handles conditions, you’ll be playing the role of support
Isn’t the bolded part exactly what the people are saying is the problem here?
Technically, all the Zerkers are useless too, since they do just as much damage to a mega boss as my Soldier build does because you can’t crit them, and depending on how my traits and sigils are set up, My Ranger’s Cleric build does alot more damage to world bosses than a Zerker does because of my pet.
First, if your ranger cleric build does more damage to the boss than a zerker warrior, then that zerker warrior is doing something very, very wrong (like, being dead – but then if you can’t stay alive, then you shouldn’t be bringing a zerker to the event). Second, Zerkers indeed do not use their crit damage in boss fights, but their base damage is still high – as high, or higher, as any other build’s. They may be less useful, but still their dps is at least as high as anyone else’s. Condi builds, on the other hand, lose their main damage source, just because someone else stacked some conditions before them.
What would happen if the boss could receive only 25 melee attacks within one second, and all additional ones just bounced off? Because for condition builds the situation is very similar.

Seriously though, how can you be broke when you’re literally running through goldmines at that level. Due to the ascended crafting, all mid level materials (ore, wood etc) are crazy expensive right now.
He’s talking about Karma – and it did got nerfed really hard lately.

Your achievement rating alone places you in a very tiny minority.

Harcored gamers are the ones who get the good stuff while the casuals pay the bills
Fixed that for you. In the old, old times of MUD games, they were really for hardcores. Nowadays, however, no AAA class big budget game can survive without casuals – because that’s where the big numbers come from. Casuals however are far less likely to frequent game sites, forum, or generally speak up, and thus they are often ignored in planning.

The issue isn’t the visual models, but all the possible stat combinations that go on the armor. These stats in turn interact with everything else in the game: runes, builds, traits, weapon damage etc.
All the possible stat combinations already exist in exotic form. It’s only a decision on how great the persent increase on stats would be (in the case of weapons it’s a 5% increase).
Also, the stats for weapons were already decided on (and known to us) since november, even if they introduced those weapons only last patch – i am pretty sure that the stats for armor are already determined as well.
You seem to think that I have to completely remodel each armor set for each race, but once I’ve got it on Humans I can simply tweak the armor, make it larger or smaller and I’m done.
Huh, i guess that’s where all the charr armor problems come from, then.

yes, a group of elite pve enemies are a problem. And? I rarely play the elitist in here, but really: L2P.
I Have seen situations where no amount of L2P would help you – where you use stability/stun breaker to get out of trouble, and once its effect stops you get cc-chained for 5-10 seconds (and then you die, often without an ability to even escape). The worst offenders so far were of course chain knockbacks/pulls where a number of mobs play pong with you until they get bored.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
20 more power, 3% more crit damage and 2% more crit chance (estimating) doesn’t really help a lot
on top of a straight 5% damage increase. And that’s only one item. It is a significant change.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Underworld should still be around in Guild Wars 2 Tyria, unless a lore developer states otherwise.
It is around. Portals to the Underworld keep opening in the Godslost swamp in Queensdale (as well as in few other places), and shades, aataxes and Shadow Behemoth can occasionally come through. Theoretically, if the beings of the Underworld can come through portals to Tyria, travel in the opposite direction should also be possible.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Nope, ancient wood works the same way. You get a set amount per map, per character.
When i overfarm a map on ori, it stops showing for my other characters. Wood nodes however stay the same, so either it has no cap, or it is higher and i don’t run into it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
This is the only MMO I ever played where having alts is pointless.
Very narrow minded view of the game. If your purpose for having Alts is to just “gear them up”, why have them?
The “gearing up” is not a purpose, but merely a prerequisite. “Gearing up as a purpose” approach is something that Anet is trying to introduce.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I guess where I get confused is that you automatically earn 3 points to spend for linking the accounts, this is a known fact. Then I am told that I have earned rewards by linking the accounts. When I go to claim the rewards, there is nothing to claim.
Clearly I don’t want to play GW1. I want to use the 3 points for linking the accounts. I don’t want everything in HoM… I understand I need to ‘earn’ the rewards by playing GW1 but shouldn’t I have the 3 points to spend just by linking the accounts? This is where the misunderstanding comes in… I have to buy 2 different games and play GW1 to use the 3 points. This was not explained when I linked the accounts. When I linked the accounts it told me I earned rewards already…
To earn HoM rewards (even the base 3 points you get for linking accounts) you do need to have an unlocked Hall of Monuments in GW1. Which means, that you need Eye of the North as well.

This I can’t understand. Every single RPG has RNG-based rewards in dungeons since Dungeons and Dragons. It can not be the problem.
Ah yes, the “it has always been like that, so it cannot be a problem” approach. If it was true, then we’d have unchanging world with no problems at all. We don’t – that should tell you something.

Except ori (and bountiful passiflora), which are account-capped now.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Now, how does that factor in your charts and stats?
now, if that GS was the worst possible of all the available skins in the game, would you still use it, or would you go for something that looked cooler?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Contrary to original expectations, the time gate turned out to be the least of the problems tied to ascended weapons. Don’t concentrate on it – all the other ones are much, much bigger.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Greatswords are big and noticeable and so people want them to look good and have lots of options for them.
That is actually a circular logic – GS have good skins because people want them more, and people want them more, because GS have the best skins. You see GS-es all around not because everyone uses GS-es, but because they have been made to be the most noticeable weapon. This is however only a result of the weapon design – there’s nothing inherent in GS that should make it stand out so much among other weapons. It’s only due to the devs ignoring other big weapons like staves and hammers, and giving weapons that could have been popular as well (swords, axes) only mediocre skins.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You can also guest to other servers and harvest there.
Are they char bound or account bound though?
Ori has a hard account cap per map. Ancient wood seems to allow much more farming, though.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Some of the double-jp combos are also relatively nice (if you are good at jumping). Morgan’s spiral and Dark Reverie give 6-9 Empyreal fragments each, with an additional 2-4 fragments chest at the bottom of the Reverie. If you are doing the Dredge Commander event in Dredgehaunt, don’t forget to go Tribulations Rift/Caverns, as they are relatively easy and fast.
Open world chests in Queensdale and Harathi are a good option as well.

It’s the same person that once claimed that he wants everyone to get their best stat gear by the time they get to level 80. Now he says they never intended that.
If a year from now they decide to add a new tier, he’ll likely be saying that “it was planned all along”.What happened was players chewed through content way too fast. Faster than they wanted.
less than 1% of players did that. In fact i believe there are more people that played from the beginning and still don’t have full exotic set than there were people posessing legendaries in November.
Besides, it doesn’t matter. The fact remains, that they went back on something they said once barely 3 months into the game (earlier, actually – it had to take them at least a month to prepare November patch) – and they did it easily, at the first opportunity.
Which basically means, that we cannot expect them to keep any solid promises they might have made to us now (even if they had made them, which they didn’t)Where do you get your percentages from? I’m interested.
Sorry, should have quoted a bit more of Namu’s post – especially the part:
Exotics in a day legendary in a month.
I’m pretty sure that even now, over nine months later, number of people with legendaries is still below 1%.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
As far as I have heard it will be one of every weapon including Greatsword.
You guys do realize there are 4 classes that use Greatsword, and it is the most used weapon in the game? That is the reason there are more GS skins.
Swords are used by 5 classes. Staves by 4. Daggers by 4. Spears by 6. Yet only GS-es get a special treatment.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Just because you have a bunch of characters, does not constitute an excuse to complain about drop rates.
You are right. The fact that unless i am going to farm hard i will be getting an ascended weapon once every 2-3 months however is.
The drop rate is horrible. Me having 8 level 80 characters that i actually play doesn’t make the problem any worse, but it does make it significantly more noticeable.
So, if ArenaNET made everything easy enough to get with a month of play.. what would you do after that? What motivation would you have to go further?
Well, the same as made me play this game in the first place? Fun? or is it now not enough for some?
Once you take away the unrealistic expectation of being given everything immediately, you will find more enjoyment in the adventure.
What adventure? Surely you don’t mean gear grind, do you?

I find that hard to believe, it took next to nothing to have full exo. I remember. And many people had already gotten sets from COF.
I know. I also know that there are still many people playing (actively playing) that have never put their foot in a dungeon.
Come to think, i don’t have enough tokens to buy a dungeon armor set, even though i play extensively and i wouldn’t call myself casual.

And there are no rich wood nodes (well, there’s no rich ori node anymore either, but for t1 – to t5 the inequality holds up as well)

The point is thakitten- is – a goal to make over time. To hear 5 pages of people fearing the challenge only makes me cringe to think that ArenaNET may backtrack on the ascended level or make it easier.
That’s exactly the point – it’s not a challenge. It’s just a tedious and boring grind that brings nothing to the game.
those who want to put in the insane efforts deserve to have something to show for it.
That “something” being a stat advantage goes against one of the core principles of this game – one they claim they still follow. It could have been something else. Legendaries being able to swap stats on the fly is a good “something”. They offer a valuable convenience, but not an advantage. Unique prestige skins and titles are also an option – again, because they offer no advantage.
New tier of gear, offering significant advantage that isn’t available to 99% of players (to use the value you yourself supplied) is something completely different, something at whose existence i will continue to protest as long as i still play this game.
And something that devs originally promised will never exist in GW2
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Why does everyone feel the need to categorize and judge people?
I’m a hardcore players, and I love this game to death. Eh…?
That’s because it is aimed at hardcores. Just there’s more than one group of hardcore players, and their goals not always overlap. Casuals get quaggan backpacks and… that’s pretty much it. Everything else is not for them.
A few months ago Colin Johansen said in a video GW2’s core audience is the guy who only has 1 hour to play a day. That’s why endgame gear is awarded through dailies, so that person can feel they’re progressing (that is what was said in the video).
Ascended weapon grind clearly shows it’s nothing like that. Most of the previous Living Story content is the same (1 hour to play a day… so we’ll make each invasion last almost that long? lol).
Appealing to casuals isn’t a bad thing
Then maybe they should start doing that.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

took me exactly 6 days to get all empyreal needed for ascended wep which is bad but not as bad as i thought.
It is bad. I have enough mats for 2 vision crystals already, but that is only because i’m farming them like crazy. It’s clear to me that i won’t be able to keep it up for all the weapons I need (the basic minimum is 25 weapons, and that’s only because i don’t count my engi, underwater weapons, and possible alternate weapons for my less used alts. The number i’d be aming for – those that i reasonably expect to use, is amost double that). After i drop down to my normal playing style, i’d be lucky to get 10 empyreal fragments daily on average – that’s close to two months per weapon.
TL/DR: yes, the farming speed is better than originally expected, but the nonfarming, casual gameplay speed is beyond horrible.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’m pretty sure they can (all other sources – the event chests and the champion boxes – definitely can). The rate would be much lower than the chance to get an exotic drop from those chests, though – and i have never got an exotic from a jumping puzzle.
