-Mobs? Killable. Only champs pose any significant threat.
The Champs are actually fairly harmless …. IE: they’re usually just a Thrall that hits 3x harder and has 30x more hitpoints. …It’s actually the Hypnoss & Abom veterans that I’ve noticed are the biggest threat and the Hypnoss especially are always neglected the hardest when they should really be the primary target even before the Aboms.
Both Hypnoss and Abomination also can come in the Champion version, in addition to Champion Risen Grubs. Any of those three is really bad news (unlike brutes, which can simply be kited, as you have mentioned).
Tequatl himself isn’t that hard.
What makes it hard is getting everyone on the map coordinated.
And the fact that the game not only gives you no tools to help with that, it actually works against you here (as the overflow mechanic and unknown respawn timer promotes akitteng in the main server).
Edit: please, please, unfilter “afk” term. It’s getting really annoying to see kittens everywhere.

Just pulled off a jump over the tidal wave perfectly, got nothing.
Me too. Heard about a hidden achi, checked it out and realised I’d already done it and gotten nothing.
Do you have the title unlocked?
I got my title and then found the secret achievement by mistake and it awarded it to me (gives 0 points). Jumped from mega laser pad towards the turrets.
Got my title few days ago, and tried for the achi again yesterday when we accidentally failed defence due to too many afkers. First time was jump from northern battery towards laser, yesterday was from laser to eastern turrets. Both times didn’t get anything. Both times noone else in the zone got the achi either. I start to suspect a troll.

Got my ascended from daily as well (and at least, while i don’t need cleric weapon for any of my alts, white skin version is actually nice so i may consider reskinning when i craft something useful). From what i remember, at least two other people from the 5 total boxes mentioned earlier got theirs from the daily as well (i don’t know about the remaining 2).

just like how they nerfed karka queen after her stuff was done.
They nerfed her? How? Because it seems to me her mechanics are exactly the same as during the southsun event – only rewards were updated a bit.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If he appears every 2 hours or so, ironically despite the faster cadence, he would be deader than if he appeared less often, simply because there will be no pressure for everyone actually wanting to do him to show up on time, and is instead spread out inefficiently.
If they only make him appear like once every two days, introduce a ton of obvious pre-events so you know exactly when he’s about to show up and maybe let a NPC town crier in LA (of course, there’d also be an API integration) announce that Teq is landing, there will be enough of a critical mass to fill several servers and overflows, likely.
which will mean that most people wouldn’t get it because they couldn’t get into main? good idea, that.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
So far the drop rate seems consistent – one box per two Teq kills (for the whole zeg, not person). So far saw two Sunless stat sets (condi/prec/tough – thoe have unique teq skins), one settler, one cleric and one valkyrie (the last 3 had normal ascended skins). I am feeling very sorry for anyone that managed to get an ascended box with completely unneeded stats.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I just hope it will be much closer to the Molten facility than Aetherblade Retreat in it’s design. AR used too much of the “normal game mechanic bypassing” approaches for the sake of “arcade mode”, with too great insistence on cc/aoe spam, unblockables, oneshots etc. If i wanted to play bullet hells, i’d play Touhou, not GW2.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’d like a level cap increase now, with no ascended items at the new maximum cap, ever.
The only reason they might increase the level cap is to invalidate the current equipment and force regear grind. You will never get one without the other.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
While these weapons does cost a lot to make, it doesn’t change the fact that you don’t need crafting to be 500 to get these weapons.
So? You don’t need crafting 500 to get legendaries, and they are certainly ascended level. And the cost of lot of the exotic Mystic Forged weapons is ridiculously high.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Ok…my point was that this resources was NOT rare and easily farmed by all but the lowest level characters. Yes, the current refinement quantity requires more of it than any other wood material, but it is the most abundant wood nodes present in the game (which was the original reason they changed the refinement requirement).
Except it is not. The most abundant wood type would be elder wood, actually (the next being T1). It is possible that the world total of T2 is a bit higher than T3 and 4, but it is offset by the greater price per plank, and by the fact that T3 and T4 exists in greater density (t2 existing in more zones, but with a lower per-zone quantity).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The same, no achievement. And haven’t heard of anyone that got it this time, even if lot of people were going for it. Seems suspicious.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Again, inefficient, as guardians would be better used in the dps zerg, and there are some mobs that can bypass warding (which can appear due to someone running too close)
There are always some people that would not do very well in dps zerg (condi necros, i.e.). It is better to utilize them where the can do most good (turrets if possible, turret defence otherwise).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I know this probably requires too much coordination: but wouldn’t the best way to defend the turrets would be to send 7-8 guardians with hammers to each turret, stand as close as possible and cast ring of warding every time a ring of warding shield goes down.
Its alot better then having a ton of people group around the turrets and spawn champions. 7 guardians per turret (traited for cooldowns. 8 untraited), 1 turret operator, everyone else in the damage zerg.
It would take coordination between all of the guardians on the map—but a large enough guild might be able to get it done.
This is highly inefficient for several reasions:
1. the best use for guardians is in attack zergs, for stability/reflect and general zerg buffing.
2. You really need only one group per 3 turrets for succesful defence, as long as those people know what they are doing and can either put out a lot of damage, or kite really well.
3. 20+ people in each turret group defence practically guarantees champion spawns. You don’t want those. One champion grub or abomination will almost certainly mean a turret down and warding is not going to help.
4. For the sake of “efficiency” you have exchangd 5-7 people in defence for 21-24. This is a net loss of 14-19 players that could go to the damage zerg. Hardly efficient.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
New overflows are created when someone tries to enter an already full zone, and there are no already existing non-full overflows where that person could be moved into. However, once it has been created, it persists as long as there’s even one player in there – and since the players can log ou, move to another zone, or move (eventually, if they are lucky) to main, even originally full overflows will empty with time.

Why all the hate towards the ONLY villain with an actual personality and interesting background and story?? (not counting the Mad King here)
I guess we just have a very different definitions of what constitutes an interesting background and personality. And the fact that you compared her to Mad King Thorn, which is a joke char, is in itself telling.
No. I read it. She excelled, but always quit early before she truly learned everything. She never mastered blacksmithing. Never mastered potions. Never even mastered all the various asura colleges.
Ah, but why she didn’t master it? Because it was all beneath her – she didn’t need it. It’s clearly suggested that if she wanted, she would have been able to master that all, and cutting learning short was always only due to her choice, not any lack of abilities.

almost all with spawns in if i remember right
and whats wrong with F/U?
is it the fact that you need a few people knowing how to play there class with the need of kiteing and moveing?
It’s the fact that you need certain builds and classes, while other classes are right out (ranger, for example, as pets don’t dodge).
Also, the fact that the spawns at the end don’t reset which gives you exactly one chance to do it without any time to actually learn the final encounter.
(i also think that the number and strength of the spider swarm is really overdone, and could use some reduction).

Deimos is right, at the current moment, people are doing it because it’s new. What happens 1-2 months later is that getting 30 people to come to Teq is going to be a difficult task.
It’s also the best chance you have at getting a free ascended weapons. That may keep people coming back for just that alone.
I see more ascended drops in a hour of frostgorge champ train than on a whole tequatl day. The chance for ascended weapon from teq chest may be 10 times greater than from a champ bag (and i doubt it is that good), but if you consider how long do you need to wait in queue/on main before a kill, in that time you will get much more than 10 chests. With a far less effort.
For a source of ascended weapons, Teq is not a good choice.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’d imagine that the kill tequatl strategy will be refined to a point where pugs using random gear will be able to do it.
The teq strategy is easy and really, can’t be refined any more. The execution of this strategy however is beyond ability of any pug big enough to have any hope of killing the dragon.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
At the current perceived ascended drop rate, you’d get one per year on average, assuming you did Teq daily (succesfully). And it would have random stats, or worse, be a Teq weapon (nice if you go for skin, but very bad if you are interested in ascended tier stats).
The current rate is not good enough.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
yea… I keep getting ginto the “main” servers that only have about 30 people, whereas the overflow has maxed out space. wtf is up with that? Why can’t the overflow kick people back into the main when it’s empty?
Because overflows are cross-server and not server specific. So, you have EU overflows, and US overflows, but not, for example, a Blackgate overflow or Desolation one. If you have 30 people on main, and a full overflow, then likely people on that overflow come from other servers. Servers that are capped.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Dwayna and Lyssa usually are done in tandem – you can check up on them while doing node farming in Malchor’s (in addition to ori and ancient wood, there’s a nice elder wood cluster there that will help you immensely with daily crafting of Globs of Elder Essence – it’s 50 planks per one piece). Those temples will already give you 60 dragonites. The average dragonite gain per Claw, Shatterer/Golem is 20 (15-25) – it should give you a nice 120 dragonites daily. This all is likely going to take over an hour (close to two hours if you are unlucky) however. Consider jumping to Claw and temples when the events are already running (but beware the overflow at claw) to save time. Do not try Teq – as dragonite source it is extremely inefficient.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
In the 3 last days on my server, Teq has been killed 2-3 times each day. Every time after a kill the same question is asked – “has anyone received any ascended drop?”. So far, the number of answers received stands at 3 – two of those were Teq weapons, and one a settler stat normal ascended box. It is possible, of course, that some people got their drops and simply didn’t answer, but gamers in general are prone to showing off, so i consider this unlikely.
This is too low a droprate to be considered an enticement – especially since all 3 weapons had relatively unusable stat sets.
Mind you, number of exotics dropped (and minis) didn’t seem to be significantly higher.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Some people may not realize this, but not all content is meant for everyone.
True. This content, however, clearly is meant for everyone, as long as they can get to sparkfly. In fact, this difference between designed difficulty and designed accessibility is the main reason why this event is flawed in it’s conception.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Think about the Jormag fight. There are two phases to Jormag, but does anyone need any reminder about where to stand and what to hit?
Yes. I still see lot of people dying in the second phase due to zerging Claw when he’s not stunned.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Is Tequatl an individual though or one of many and ‘Tequatl’ is just the Hylek word for what one of them is. But the trailer made out that it was a singular entity which had become stronger.
I still prefer the idea/timeline that:
We defeat Tequatl -> We kill Zaitan -> Tequatl returns as a more powerful creature. Thats where the intrigue and mystery lies.
Pretty sure I remember a ANet staff post elsewhere in the forums stating that this is the case. Tequatl is not the dragon’s name, it’s basically a word that means sunless, which the hylek call big enemies like that since they worship the sun. Basically, he’s ‘Sunless the Sunless’.
Except all the other Tequatl-lookalike Zhaitan dragon lieutenants have individual names. The one at Claw Island is Blightghast the Plaguebringer, the 3 ones in Arah story mode are named Ogravros the Moondeath, Fafnarin the Heartslayer and Horrogos the Soulbreaker. There’s no reason why Tequatl would be different in that regard.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I hope that is not the case.
You hope in vain. I have been in many defence groups so far, and the difference between spawns when you are in a small group, and in a big one (or when 20+ people that died in one wave comes running right through turrets from Broolonu wp, or when there are a lot of afkers at Eastern turret group)) is blatantly easy to see. With small groups you might get one-two champs per whole event. With big groups you get them every wave, with possible several at once, and Champion Risen Grubs and Champ Abominations will start to spawn, which usually means a destroyed turret.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You need more coordination to make KQ spawn, than to kill Tequatl.
That is actually completely untrue. The only “coordination” you need is to have a full 5-man goup for each camp. If i could coordinate a Teq kill as easily, it would be done with success rate close to 100% every time he appears.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I have my Sunslayer title. I am likely going to try few more times with my guildies, until they get the title as well – after that i simply don’t want to see Sparkfly ever again.
Lack of rewards is the least of the reasons why, though – the most important one is the need to sacrifice several hours just to get to the main server, and the inability to go elsewhere for dailies, etc.
I am simply unwilling to be chained to a single place for several hours just to have a chance to do one event – a chance that can still be ruined because someone at the turret fell asleep or just had to take a 5 mins break when Teq arrived.
And here I thought the ratio of bad players to good was the real problem.
Well, one is connected to the other. If the good players keep leaving after succeeding (or succeeding a few times and getting a full set of achivements), then it leaves only inexperienced/bad ones. So, not only the ratio of bad to good players is not good in the beginning, it’s getting worse, not better, as the time moves on.
I am seriously in awe of the number of experienced leaders/subleaders that stay at the event even though they personally don’t really wish to see Teq again, simply to help others get the title. I am aware, however, that such dedication will not last forever – sooner or later they will give up. Most likely there will be noone else to pick up their role then.
Look, people who were demanding ultra-hard content that requires meticulous organization and synchronization got exactly what they asked for. Bonus difficulty for having to overcome presence of casual players.
Just wait for the Boss Week to be over, most casual players will learn the lesson that encounter brings nothing but broken armor and lots of screaming in map chat and move on to something elseThose who remain will no longer trigger overflow and Teq will be “do it once a week” event for large guild/guild groups :P
Except the content seems to be finetuned for just enough people to trigger overflow. If you don’t, then likely you simply won’t have enough dps to kill him.

NEVAH! Many servers had proven you never fight alone!
Yes, instead you fight with a lot of afkers and trolls.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You still won’t be able to play on your own server. If you will be able to join your server map easily, without hitting overflow, it means that there’s not enough people on main to take Teq anyway.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Yes, don’t hold back, revamp all of the world bosses to the same format. Then, after they’ll stop being done, it will be all the more visible and perhaps we’ll be able to end this change before it creates even more problems.

Snip
4. If you’re the type to say “this is a game, I shouldn’t have to do homework or try hard if I don’t want to”, then this content isn’t for you. Stop complaining and move on.
Again, not all content can cater to everyone. If it’s not for you, get over it and move on.
But for the love of god, don’t ruin it for the rest of us.
But this what the “I want more difficult content” has done from the start. This game is easymode GIEF MOAR CHALLANGE. The game wasn’t for them and yet the whining and ranting kept going. Yet the people who were fine with it should now stop? There is a word for that and that is hypocrite.
There are several differences here. The main one being that people who want more challenge don’t flood the forums with threads demanding that the current easier content should be drastically changed so that casual players can’t enjoy it.
Actually, this has happened on more than one occasion. The result of one such wave of posts is the ascended gear. Current teq (and hints that Claw and Shatterer will get their own revamps) is the result of another such case.

You need to participate in the (succesful) laser defence event to get hp threshold loot.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Why does this boss have to follow the pattern of all other open world bosses?
Because it still uses the basic design of all open world bosses (you have no control on who gets to participate – anyone can be present, including people that just are in the area, but did not come there for Teq at all).
The best example here would be Claw – if he were to be revamped the same way, his desing should better take into considration, that the main map (and lot of overflows) would be half-filled with champ farmers, leaving far less slots for killing him.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s the desync bug. Visible and damage parts of the wave do not match sometimes. Might be a latency based glitch, as it seems not everyone has it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I dont know why people hate ascended crafting. If you dont like it you can play with exotic, wait for a drop or build a legendary.
There are some people who don’t want to earn things with effort. They’d rather it just be given to them. We call this “Entitlement”. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it’s human nature to want stuff. But in religious circles, Greed is one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
And there are some people that do not understand that for lot of people game is not a sport competition, but a pasttime entertainment. And that most people do not expect to pay for the “privilege” to work. Which is what a tiny minority of players apparently expect from all others.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
One of the things that surprised me when I downed Tequatl was how basic the strategy is. I’m sure even PUGs will be farming him within two weeks. It’s really all about stacking.
It’s the execution of that strategy that separates good, organized groups from pug zergs. PUGs will never farm tequila as it is.

Then you must have failed (or not participaded in) the 25% laser event. Chests are only for participants of succesful laser defence.

I dont know why people hate ascended crafting. If you dont like it you can play with exotic, wait for a drop or build a legendary.
I don’t hate it. I just don’t see anything in it worth retaining. Well, except for the general idea (“ascended are craftable”). I certainly don’t see a reason why a bad design in one place should prevent us from having better designs in others.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’m doing map completion with every character anyways because it’s a lot of fun for me, even after the 100th time. But yeah, I’d welcome a bit more of a final reward than just a Gift of Exploration and a Title.
And what’s the average time to complete it knowing where to go?
Impossible to calculate, because it all hinges on WvW. You could get unlucky with your side not being able to take that one keep where the last poi is for months.

Can someone please tell me the requirements to get the chest at 75%, 2 times now Ive been in a overflow thats got him to below 75%, 2 times ive seen people get chests. The last time stayed close to commander, even got sent to a watery grave and no chest for me, so what do you have to do to get a chest, coz id hate to be in a server that actually kills him and get nothing.

Apparently you need to participate in a succesful laser defence.

Autotarget is okay (disabling it usually creates more problems that it solves), but there really should be an option to lock the target. Calling out the target, and switching to called out target should lock it until it’s dead or you switch it manually.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
No if youre a casual player then dont. Frankly even if you beat Tequatl the rewards are trash and not worth whatever you went through in those 15 minutes….
You’re right. Ascended weapons are garbage. I mean..why waste a whole 15 minutes on this boss fight for a chance at a drop that could be one of the best weapons in the game.
When you could be doing FG champ farming for better chances, yeah.
Overflows have no TS commander coordination, making them fail every single time. This content is beyond being able to pug.
…….
I guess all you negative nancies are correct then. We should all just uninstall the game seeing as how this is just way too hard. Don’t try the content. Don’t attempt to win. I mean as long as no servers have beaten this, why even try…. OH wait……… It’s been beaten a few times you say?
You haven’t read a word of the post you were replying to, right?

Gandara hasn’t beaten him yet I’ve never been able to get on its server for Tequatl.
It’s easy, just try like 10 mins before the event, and you will easily get in. The numbers are going down hard in our server, i’m afraid.
