When people said they wanted an expansion, they meant they wanted something on the scale of Factions or Nightfall, complete with all the bells and whistles. As is, we’re not even getting a new playable race (a standard MMO expansion feature) and what we are getting seems to be kitten at best.
There were new playable races in Factions or Nightfall ?
No but they added 2 new professions in each … as well as 2 new pvp modes in factions and 1 more in nightfall
Revenant, Stronghold .. ok its just one more profession, but for that we get the
new mastery traitlines / weapons on all other classes.

I just can’t see how running from chest to chest mindlessly is any fun to anyone. I forgot to say that I only want the chest trains to be nerfed not the events in the SW, which could still be rewarding, and perhaps you could buy material bags with the SW crests as well, just not to the same extent.
People here post again and again that dungeon running is by far the best way
to make money .. some claim to make 20-30g per hour with that.So if people prefer running SW for maybe 10-12g per hour then maybe its simply
that dungeons are not more fun for them. For example there is no gearcheck and
nobody kicks rangers and necros out of SW.lol who claims to make 20-30g an hour on dungs?
You only get 1-2g per dung path (depending on the dung) and thats ONCE A DAY ONLY…Nothing comes CLOSE to the gold per hour and ease of play that SW is… thats a fact. Theres a reason why that map is ALWAYS filled… its the best way to buy whatever you want from TP….
The same people maybe that brag about numbers in SW that are so far from
reality that other people think it has to be nerfed.
And nope .. its not a fact . Its mostly bragging with inflated numbers. I would
say you make maybe 10-12 g per hour in SW since you also have to take the
time you need to unpack and salvage all your stuff and make events to get
crests for keys and shovels and so on.
And thats a number i can also earn doing dungeons or harvesting platin and wood.

People came on the forums everyday posting about how the game needs an expansion. Posting about how they are quiting because there is no expansion. How the game is horrible without an expansion. This is what happens when games get expansions, there is a large gap between releases. LS3 + two week updates will most likely pick up once the expansion is released, but there may even be a gap between those. If we would have went without an expansion they could have released all of “stuff” in an expansion just in two week intervals. Rather then developing and testing large additions to the game they moderately add in small new features. I do not understand why people could not see that you will get all of the same stuff as an expansion it just happens slowly rather than all at once.
This is why I was against the expansion method, but a large portion of the forum base was for it. So now we wait months for this to come out, we could have already been on LS3 with parts of VB and some specializations released. Just take a break from the game and come back when the expansion comes out.
I’m pretty sure they didn’t expect it would take that long to get an expansion and that Anet would allocate all their people to it (except for the gemstore team), bringing no further content for nearly one year.
They were warned repeatedly that there would be a large gap of up to two years for content. They didn’t care.
Yepp .. can’t remember how often i warned them .. oh and i also sayed already
long before, they shouldn’t be surprised if they consume the new content in
2-3 weeks and then have to wait again 2 years until anything new will be
released.
But nobody cared .. LS is boring .. giff “real expansion” .. i don’t care about LS ..
Oh and ofc they all said they happily pay for it .. and then we had the outcry
because of the price and that ANet gave free gifts for new players.

you’ll get 10% condition duration from sigil
you’ll get 10-15% condition duration from runes
(25% duration)
OR
you’ll get 40-45% specific condition duration from runes
you’ll get 20% specific condition duration from sigil

I would enjoy some reworks on the higher level bosses someday though. Much like what they did with Tequatal. Back in the day he was just another mindless 1 spam like shatterer. Hope HoT does indeed have more involved cooperation and effort in their events.
I still don’t want that you need to camp other bosses for half an hour because it
depends on having 100+ people to success. I remember in old times i did
Svanir Shaman with 3-4 people and Jormag with around 10 .. then they put in
the timers and it was suddenly impossible to do Jormag anymore with not
enough people late at night on other servers than Desolation.
Also .. Teq starts directly at his timer .. Megadestroyer is 15 minutes of Pre-Events.
If they change him they should also first shorten the whole pre event thing. The
same for Fire Elemental, pre is just annoying.
Svanir Shaman in my eyes has good pre events, that leed from start directly to
the boss.

Sorry but in my opinion the SB upgrade is just a pain. There is nothing fun about going out and killing 13 portals every 15 secs to just be able and attack the boss.
Maybe we can give him some fear spam every 2 seconds .. now that would be “fun”,
also make it 26 portals each 8 seconds, and double his hitpoints, because that
would be “challenging”.

this should answer your question
That makes me sad but also was pretty much what i expected.
Non-descript under the hood ‘engine improvements’. I really wanted some beefy “This is what we are doing and this is why it will make the game run better.” “Largescale battles in WvW will improve roughly %5 because of x.” 5% would be huge!
Many times have patch notes included something along the lines of “optimization improvements in the client” and stuff like that. But its all so imperceptible. Just what is improving?
I think most people wouldn’t even understand it if they go into detail like maybe
they improved calculation algorithms for bleed damage or shifting functions in
another tread that has less CPU load than where it actual was .. or whatever.
And then a lot is maybe trial and error since what looks good on the paper
suddenly backfires on the live servers and leads to all kind of other problems.
Even if it is not a real problem .. just look at the bug with the candy corn nodes
that are sometimes visible for a short moment. That in my opinion is a result
from multi-threading when one tasks not waits until another is completed.

So I recently looted 1000 bandit chests (over a few days) and I got approximately 120 gold from just opening the “embroidered coin purse”. I pretty much threw all green and yellow items into the mystic toilet and came out with 13 exotics (highest value was 4 gold).
If you do a chest run, you’re looking at 10-15 gold per 100 chests. That’s my guess
10-15g (if its per hour) sounds reasonable. But that is in fact more or less what i can
also get with harvesting mats and there i don’t have to follow a train, can make my
break whenever i want and so on .. so thats why i prefer that

make open world pvp between races
each race starts from their homecity and fights for control over territories. races get bonuses for territories controlled.
introduce a criminal system. killing people who ain’t pvp-willing in open world gets you criminal points. to many of such points throws you in jail. you can break out of jail and there will be bountys placed on you which people can take up and get rewards.
in a nutshell, something like helbreath.
It is the best suggestion…..

I can make 240g+ a day with chopping wood .. IF i play 24 hours.
Always use gold per hour .. per day says nothing if you don’t also say how many
hours you play.
And yeah .. people often brag with big numbers that don’t really fit with the
reality .. like 30-50g per hour or whatever. That could happen because of a
lucky drop but is far from normal reality.
Are you counting your mats? If you hit a lot of events, chest trains, and such you will get a bunch of exotics.
Like that one .. from the last 300 bags i’ve open i have gotten ONE exotic.

But its fair that 95% of the players maybe pay all the money for the devs, but the
devs create content mainly for 5% of the players ?Nearly all armor pieces/skins/etc are available to 100% of all players. Is there more than one or two options (Liadri is all that comes to mind for me) in the entire game that fit the description of being mainly for the 5%?
One option (update to include others that dont come to mind immediately) out of hundreds or thousands.
You have noticed i was NOT talking about the current state of the game but
more about othher MMOs with RAIDS ? And maybe my fear that we can
go into that direction with whatever that obscure new “challenging

Yup. Open world rewards are still in-line with the state of the economy back at launch. Back then 1g was a small fortune. The actual events and so on are enjoyable enough, we just need some incentives to get out and do them.
They have even nerfed the rewards once and that at a time after the money we could
earn went x4 after implementing the champ bags and ascended crafting.
I think it went from 1,20s to 90c or something like that .. and that when i had
thought for a long time already that they should up the rewards.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I think they simply find no idea for a solution where people can not exploit by

not make the event base on damage done, since that will open up the next
wave of complaints.

Since we get bigger zones, or at least zones with different layers and so more stuff,
i would rather expect worse performance since there is more to be calculated and

At least that happend in EQ2 when they doubled the zone size in Rise of Kunark.

If I wanted a game that locks me out of everything decent just because I dislike raiding content (and spending my time with elitists that tend to feel attracted by that sort of content), I’d go play one of the twenty competing MMOs designed that way.
“…everything decent…” is completely subjective. In this game everyone has access to top tier stat gear. Now what we’re talking about are essentially skins. Now all of a sudden exclusive skins shouldn’t require completion of challenging content because some people don’t want to or simply can’t complete content that is above average difficulty?
That’s simply not fair to people who put the effort into completing that content.
But its fair that 95% of the players maybe pay all the money for the devs, but the
devs create content mainly for 5% of the players ?
http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/24/the-soapbox-six-reasons-mmos-should-abandon-raiding-part-1/
Since in the last 1,5 years the only new armor skins we got were Carapace, since
ANet don’t sells armor sets in the BLTC anymore, i really fear that they now go
again over the top and hide all the new skins behind an enormous grind and
then put that obscure “challenging group content” on top.

Burning is the only really strong condition now, bleed was even nerfed to hell
since it makes half the damage than before the condition changes so that i
equipped my sword warrior now again with berserker gearEngi so far is the only class i found to make good use of it and its fun to play now
for me without much switching kits.
Also i found a decent build for my ranger with torch and traps.Bleeding wasn’t really nerf’d the SCALING with Condi Damage was changed, with 700+ Condi Damage you’ll find it does more than it used to with the same previous Condi Damage.
Incorrect, you need 2200 CD to achieve the same damage as before the patch.
The bleed they previewed in the POI stream was not what was added in the patch. Bleed got a significant nerf between the POI and patch and the scaling went from 700 to 2200.
I’ve also tested again today a little bit against the train golems and when going from
zerker amulett to rampager i loose more damage on auto-attacks than what i win
from the higher bleed. And that without counting the time it needs to ramp up
the bleed stacks.

I have in the past already often suggested to get rid of the breathers and use
the normal headgear instead.
Most of my chars with 80 had still the level 1 breather, until i’m in the mood

them. Its however annyoing to loose the speedboost under water on chars
that use traveller runes.

Gosh, I hope it’s not raids. I am not aware of any game where raiding hasn’t caused endless drama in its community. To be honest, the “challenging group content” announcement is scaring the hell out of me that GW2 might become just yet another endgame focused MMO after all. Dungeons
Same here .. after RIFT i bought a livetime abo from Champions Online since i
never again wanted to play any other progression oriented dungeon grinder.
Loved the open world events there, but at max level they didn’t even gave
you items of that level .. all good gear again just from instances.
And GW2 was the only game so far where i wasn’t forced to grind dungeons
after CO.

Haha .. so classic. Not much more to say.
Yes, ‘classic’ carrot-on-stick tactics are a primary means of getting people into content in MMOs.
If you’re invoking the word “classic” to imply anything else, you’re off-base.
Rewards are obviously a prime motivator to get people into content, but that is in no way mutually exclusive to a desire for challenging content.
The classic means just that first some people say : Nooo i don’t want rewards
the challenge is all i really want.
But as soon as they get challenge without rewards everybody says : i don’t
care for the challenge .. all i want is the reward.
So in the end the whole challenge thing for most people is only that they want
rewards that others are not able to get.
And for raids :

The timing of the animation is off with my Charr as well (doesn’t sync with when resource is actually collected). Unsure if that is related or not.
Is it a warrior or ranger with the trait that gives you 10% faster attackspeed ?
With those traits you always made 3 swings and after that start to make a 4th

Also my Asura (female) always make 4 swings.

You forgot #5: the content is challenging… for a few weeks/months before people figure out how best to farm it and they start crying for more.
“challenge” is nothing more than a stalking horse for “I want better rewards than the unwashed masses”.
No it’s not.
“Challenge” is wanting content that will engage you and take full advantage of the mechanics the game holds.
Which is why Aetherpath is the most popular dungeon path in the game, right?
It would be more popular, if it was actually rewarding.
Haha .. so classic. Not much more to say.

As for the “large majority” of people, I have my doubts. I think that us forum goers are the minority. So a large majority of a small minority, is still a small minority.
Our german CM postet a while ago that only 7-8% read the forums and only 1%
post at the forums. So yeah .. that “large majority” here is in the end less than
1% of the total players.

An interesting experiment. Say ANet leaves the difficulty substantially as is. Will those claiming they want such difficulty still want it six months after launch? In other words, will the harder mobs provide longevity in and of themselves, meaning (some) players will repeat the fights over and over and over just because it’s fun? Or, will there have to be reward incentives that keep the content vital until such time as it’s been farmed out? So far, the latter is the state of the game, but the former represents ANet’s vision.
We already had that experiment .. it was calles Southsun Cove .. and its filled by
masses of player every single minute of the day .. lolIt’s not that simple. SSC was a hastily-thrown-together map with few events and mobs that were a reaction to comments about the lack of threat posed by the Risen. Its reward systems were pretty well non-existent except for temp LS S1 events, mob drops, and Karka Queen. LS S1 and Queen were added later. HoT is going to be the result of everything ANet has learned in the three years since launch. They will use reward systems to keep HoT zones hot (pun intended) that never made their way into SSC.
Your question was :
“will the harder mobs provide longevity in and of themselves, meaning (some) players will repeat the fights over and over and over just because it’s fun”
And exactly that was made in SSC .. harder mobs for people that have fun just
to fight harder mobs over and over.
And the result was : no .. thats not enough. In the first weeks we were farming
Karkas with groups of people, that was OK .. but trying to explore that area alone
or farming alone was just simply annoying.
