The one sided matchups seem to happen way more frequently that I think they should. It gets old fast, so, at best, I play a few ranked matches a week now.
Lots of reason for them being lopsided; poor matchmaking, AFK players, toxic chat that makes some people just go through the motions (vs actually going afk), poor matchmaking (worth saying twice).
When I first started, I was told there is no Holy Trinity. Yet there are many areas of the game where a Druid is needed for healing, an Ele is needed for DPS and a Warrior (Guardian) is needed for Tanking. In this respect, it seems GW2 lost it’s original intent. Imagine a party composed of Mesmers and Thieves trying to do Pvp, WvW, Raids or Dungeon.
There are plenty of videos of people doing exactly that.
I found a few Dungeons but could not find Mesmers and Thieves winning PVP, WVW and Raids with none of the previously mentioned Holy Trinity classes. Could you provide some links please? Also Fractals if they are there.
Mesmers and Thieves paired up in the wvw roaming scene area a huge pain to deal with. Thieves do suffer (melt instantly) if they sit in the middle of a blob and run into the enemy, but that’s not the best way to play that class.
Mesmers and Thieves also do just fine in PvP. You’re not searching very hard if you’re not finding videos of them winning in pvp.
As I don’t like (so I don’t do) fractals or dungeons, I don’t know what they do in there.
I have no ‘main’ character. I have a bucket load of toons and pick one to do whatever I feel like at the time.
Maybe I’m an exception. I’m 50 and have been top tier every season.
I recently turned fifty and I’m playing pvp (and wvw roaming) better than when the game came out. Not top tier every season, but right next to it.
WvW should get a ascended armor/weapon’s vendor that can be used with wvw currencies (existing or new ones). Its all anecdotal, but I am closing in on 4K wvw levels and have not gotten more than a couple non ring ascended items. Go and pay a few hours of PvP over the course of the season and nearly get a full set.
Give the wvw focused players an easier path to get ascended gear in their favorite game mode. Let them match up (gear wise) with those of us who got our gear from playing the other game modes.
The game changed in one major way. I used to think the developers cared about WvW years ago. There might even be a few left who do, but either they aren’t given the time to do much with it or the higher ups said let it die. Otherwise, the game has had alterations of how the living story gets released, but it has had the living story releases on a semi regular basis for years. PVP gets some love with tournaments and trinkets. WvW gets the shaft.
That’s true. If ANet cared they would have made at least one new map after launch, put in reward tracks, added a separate section of WvW for overflow players, started balancing for WvW, held polls to ask for WvW players to vote on whether to try new things out and then added the items that were voter approved, and attempted to fix population problems by merging players from low population servers to higher population servers. Since they did none of this we can conclude that ANet is ignoring WvW and letting it die.
I didn’t say they haven’t done anything. You also mention everything they’ve done since launch. Your list is miniscule given the years the game has been out.
So, your white knighting has been noted. To bad the excuses won’t help them actually dedicate time and resources like they have to the PvP, PVE and Raid contents.

Killing off EOTM will not move people to the boarderlands. Quit thinking it will.
I would guess that the term ‘bash’ meant to kill them and take their bag. That is promoted by anet. Calling people names – not so much.
Sort of backassward of the real world, but how our digital game works out.
Don’t like em? Don’t join a group that demands it. Freedom of association works both ways.
Just as long as it’s not Scarlet coming back from the dead, I’m okay with it. lol
That Mary Jane weed should be burned from the history books.
There is way to much garbage drops in the game and no way to easily manage your limited inventory. Perhaps a ‘sell-junk’ option that’s always available from your inventory form instead of having to find a merchant.
^ And what will the Dev team do?
They will not do a thing of any value about the population imbalances because they can’t keep up with players moving in mass week to week. However, they do appreciate the gem purchases.
Its also incredibly effective, even in the hands of people who have never played thief before. I know some thief playes n the forums here will die before admitting that this build is broken,
It’s not just thief players! Judging by the recent “Balance” patch, it’s the clearly thief mainer, balance developer Karl McLain, who doesn’t think it’s broken either.
Nothing to see here, a developer favours the class. Don’t expect fixes to broken mechanics.
More than that, its that Anet doesn’t care what happens in wvw with their skill balancing. They’ve proven this time and time again.
Nope – you’re forced to team with a know-it-all and a thin skinned teenager no matter how annoying they are. Give me Rox, Canach, Ritlock and Marjorie and the others can go take a long walk off a short plank.
Can we finally use Ortho on Caithe? That untrustworthy weed needs to go.
How about a setting where we can identify classes of items (like green sigils etc.) as junk items and let the sell junk do what it does now.
The short answer to the OP is simply ‘bad writing’.
Things have gotten a touch better the last year or so.
EOTM – the new Boogieman
EOTM being closed or used in place of EB will not add any value to the WvW game mode.
What is this? Its Anet not caring about what their ‘balance’ does to WvW.
If you can, just learn to live with WvW being treated as the unwanted step-child or you’ll forever be upset about what is happening with the game mode.
It is a bad idea with no redeeming qualities.
Anet puts a system in place, players gamethe system and then blame anet for allowing them to do it.
Its clear that more people want to ‘win’ than be competitive otherwise these massive imbalances wouldn’t exist.
So, I blame anet for being absent and unwilling to dedicate resources to building a better framework, but the real culprits are the players who use the tool to their advantage (and then come here to whine about it).
I Cant Find My [STUF]
at least that made me chuckle
The answer to your query probably revolves around those you hang out with. My wife, friends, and most guild mates are all max on crafting. So the same survey by me would put the number at 90%.
There’s nothing to fix beyond what you already identified. Just say ‘No’.
On an entertaining note, I don’t recall folks from TC bemoaning the population imbalance when they were on the plus side of the equation.
Most people like the patch of least resistance so they’re going to follow the mobs to whatever server looks like it has the best chance to overwhelm the others. Sure, they claim its for ‘fights’ and they don’t care about the score, but we all know that they do it for the easy win.
Yeah, it sucks getting stuck on that crappy bl for weeks at a time. So, I agree, spread the pain around.

I still want an anvil glider. Make it happen!
HA! You said logic!
Aside from that, they have limited resources and an unclear direction they want the game mode to go in (short of more bunkering down under piles of siege). Expect less and you won’t be disappointed.
Honorary Quaggan…. it means you are an appetizer.
Quaggan’s make for some good eating.
WvWvW development is little more than an afterthought to PVE, Raids and PvP. It appears no amount of complaining, cajoling, begging or threats will make Anet put enough resources on it to make any appreciable difference.
Enjoy it for what it is and hope the next realm vs realm game can put it all together.
Get the guild buff for the reward track in wvw
Do the dailies for the vials.
Set aside several hours and follow the zerg (EOTM if you must). It goes pretty quick and you might find some fun.
I do appreciate the delete option for stacks of things that don’t have any worth. My game time is to valuable to worry about hoarding or what ‘might be’ some day.
I don’t want them spending effort changing maps (cities) that we already have. I want new ones.
I WvW most of my time in the game now. Guild Wars pvp has gone from pure garbage to mostly garbage and it took years to get there. I have no hope that they’ll ever make it right.
Anet does not take balance seriously enough to dedicate adequate development resource time to it.
It is the worst mini game in GW – and that’s saying something.
Because an ele rotating through attunements on a second weapon set would be so balanced……..
I don’t want SBI to get overloaded during NA prime time. That time zone is full enough.
There may be dead times of the day on some servers, but its not dead all the time across the board.
I agree with an earlier poster that the megaserver disabling the ability of a world to call for help cut off a life line of introducing players to the game mode. Its to bad Anet (as usual) ignores its player base when it points out these issues.
To me, they were worth every gem.
I’d rather they spend their time and resouces adding content, not flipping to a new class or race that we can create via a new character slot.
Poor red team in the that tier 2 matchup.
Anet does not hate any server – they just don’t give two poops about them.
The unbalanced population, unbalanced classes as well as the perceived (and actual) avoidance of working on the game mode is continuing to erode wvw of players.
The roaming seen is littered with thieves. Occasionally you’ll find another class, but my observation has been 4/5 thief to everything else. Half the thieves run that ‘ghost’ gimmick. Its not that they don’t die like the squishy bugs they are, but it points out what a terrible balance the classes are in.
This thread will be closed because they dont want you to know anything.
Its the holidays (or whatever excuse they come up with next).
Yeah, the red BL is not one many people want to head to. Call outs for a defense of the Alpine BLs tends to get a quick response on our server. Not so much for desert.
Devs are on every server. They just rarely run under the ANet tag. Its like a beacon for all the rabid players out there. Every one on the map zeros in on them.
I voted to keep it in the poll that mattered. Though I think its a terrible map and rarely go there (only if there is a call out for a defense on a T3 keep) I am good with letting people play on it who like it.
