The problem is this. Ranks were our reward for playing PvP almost exclusively for 2 years. Now they’ve devaluing that reward. Why is that so hard to understand?
Because they don’t want people having to spend almost 2 years exclusively to get rank 80?
They stated that when they were going to remove PvP ranks entirely.
The goal is to make rank 80 an reasonable goal for all PvP players, not just players who play a ridiculous amount of time per day for PvP. This is the key to increasing participation, to make it a possible goal for the average player.
It will still take hundreds of hours to get 80, as opposed to now where it would take 2 years or more. Thank rank 70 players now aren’t being rewarded, so whats the difference?
Instantly making thousand of players dragon? There will be more dragon finishers in the game than Phoenix.
And in contrast there will be far more bears, sharks and phoenixes as well. I fail to see the problem?
Good for you. Sounds like a lot of us do recognize a problem. If you don’t then that’s fine. I am not saying you have to see a problem. Do you have an issue with me seeing a problem?
Eloborate the problem here.
You want the 0.01% of the game to get Dragon and no one else can?
Sounds like a great way to convince people to do PvP
Actually in the blog they stated that the preview has been upgraded significantly and even had more support for dyes as well.
Also PvP reward tracks grant transmutation charges too

Name one MMO where PvP Players actually were cared about in regards to rewards vs PvE Players.
I would say Guild Wars 1, but apparently that is not an MMO (no clue why)
Things evolve, and in doing so PvP becomes less rewarding evidently.
It takes several hundred of hours to reach 50+, at least before they upped the rank points.
I think it’s a reasonable adjustment to make rank 80 hit mid 50’s
The big news came today with PvP, we basically found out that anyone rank 55 or higher becomes a dragon.
So do we get to do 2 monthlies in April with rewards for both?
When we reach 10k and 5k does that mean we never after do any daily and monthly achievements ever again?
If you don’t have map completetion, you still can’t get legendarys via PvP can you?
The caps are there so that way people new in the game cannot compete in the achievement leader boards because of the past players.
The way monthlies work is you can get rewards for both, but laurels will only be given to the first monthly you complete.
And that is correct, you cannot get a legendary by playing just PvP. I don’t mean to be pessimistic here but from my experience with other games in PvP patches like this, it’s probably going to be so grindy that its actually worse than simply doing PvE and grinding it; simply because they don’t want PvE players feeling like they are forced to do PvP to obtain a legendary faster.
Transmutation charges also achievable by playing PvP without needing to convert gold to gems?
According to the blog, you can obtain charges by completing PvP Feats, the question is how viable that would be, we’re not entirely sure.
So uh, can we get a bit more detail about how the rank changes will work? Is it based on total rank points, then recalculating your rank?
What would the current rank 40 change to? Rank 50? Rank 60?
Your total rank points are being rebalanced, we know this because they’ve already confirmed in the blog that coming April 15th there is a certain percentage of people who have hit dragon. We don’t know how much they are reducing it though.

I noticed this too on the livestream, but an educated guess would be that the PvP Build button just expands a window for you to place a sigil, a single rune and amulet. And if you needed to quickly change stats, all you would to do is modify those few slots.
They mentioned that you can’t mix runes anymore in the live stream, you just simply place one rune and it applies it to all 6 armors.
Called it!

They’ll still have a use.
The update is just making repairs free, you’ll still have to go to an armor repair NPC to get it done. Which means canisters will still have the same function they always did of saving you having to stop what you’re doing to go and find an NPC.
I assume no one ever spent 70 gems (about 4g) buying a canister to avoid paying 12s for repairs, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
I have, when it comes to fractals if the party leader leaves the instance everyone gets kicked so the only option is to either fight naked or use a repair canister.
I think the better solution is to nerf decap engineer.
I posted a complaint on the bug forums.
I posted a complaint on the technical support forums.
I logged a complaint in game on a level 1 alt.
I asked a friend in game to log a complaint on my behalf.
I logged a ticket through the website.
And this is precisely why you get delayed support, you are flooding the ticket backlog with the same issue.
I work at a helpdesk and what we do in these situations is, we run your ID and close out all tickets that are duplicates with the same issue. So you’re only delaying yourself.
Also, they are already outsourced and contracted. Most help desks you are working for a staffing agency because the turnover rate is very high.
Especially when every customer you deal with is so upset that they would rather fire everyone so that way people from another country can just copy and paste scripts and NOT read your issue.
ye but asc gear will be accountbound
so when have culture skin on this gear and send to the norn than he have it
or not?
It can go in his inventory but he can’t wear it assuming it’s a different races culture gear.
Correct, until they transmute it into a different skin or use a transmutation splitter.
They were worried that rewarding PvP players for past tournament games would destroy the economy. Something like this is FAR worse so you can pretty much count that out.
Fractal skins will be in the wardrobe, so once you use them once you can just apply the skin to all characters if you want. Since they are just exotics and not ascended, there’s really no loss in just applying the skin except it will cost transmutation charges.
I think Anet is looking at this from the flip side. It will encourage people to experiment more. Say someone has never tried a zerk build before, but is afraid to do it because they know that at first they will die all of the time. As you mentioned, that can get expensive. So now someone who didn’t want to spend the money to see if they could run x or y build, can now try it out without any real harm.
But ultimately I don’t think this was done because of level 80 players. This was done for people who are brand new to the game. They would pay high costs because they are still learning, and are poor. Honestly this change doesn’t affect me much because even if I failed miserably on an Arah run, the 11s I pay is nothing compared to the reward I received. I don’t even pay attention to the cost.
Plus if you look at this from a WvW perspective, it will encourage people to roam around and split up more, because it isn’t going to start costing you quite a bit from accidentally getting rolled by a passing zerg as you wander.
Repairing was never a limiting factor in testing out builds, it only costed a few silver to repair.
The biggest limiting factor is the armor itself, even if you were to buy just rares you are still looking at about 6 gold for an entire set.
If they really wanted to remove restrictions, they could have added rare armors to the dungeon vendors at a much more reduced cost, such as like 20 marks per piece. That would definitely encourage trying new builds.
Account bound ascendent items are actually a huge feature for Fractal Players. It’s not feasibly possible to have 5 or 6 alts with more than 40 Agony resistance.
While you think it might not be as useful to yourself, it’s actually a godsend for fractals.
All I want is real anti-aliasing. FXAA is stupid and blurs textures.
They already have true anti aliasing
It has supersampling, but you cannot choose how much supersampling, currently it is doing very low supersampling. In GW1 I had better anti aliasing than in GW2 with Supersampling + 25% downsampling.
64bit would be good, it would prevent out of memory errors which crash the game frequently.
Just get a 2550×1440 resolution and jaggies become much less of a problem.
It’s a bit ironic how the blog is being restricted from us and the blog title is… removing restrictions.
You would just have to transmute it into a look that is supported by your race. The actual ascended item itself if soulbound, the skin is applied from the wardrome.

Just give it time, when people read it at their works lunch they’ll start complaining how they got the same legendary twice solely because it was bound to another character and they feel cheated out of having multiple legendaries.
As opposed to yesterday, the same thing happened but they couldn’t change stats on the fly….
You’ll probably get a response on something among the lines of it’s something they would like to do one day but its on a low priority compared to the future features of Guild Wars 2.
Gold spam in this game is significantly less compared to other games. There’s already internal filters that block gold spam.
Like Guild Wars 1, the filter doesn’t even let you know if its been blocked. To the user on the computer, it appears to be sent but it doesn’t go anywhere. It makes it much harder for bots to know if they are really spamming or not.
I also heard reporting spam makes the filter automatically adjust, whatever they use is a lot more sophisticated than other games.
Here’s the screenshot – no iddy biddy box to tick on mine:
You are not wearing a helm, it appears that your hair style is your headgear. If you want to change it, you can either delete you char or buy the total makeover kit which is less than 5 dollars.
A better system would be to have separate rankings per character on the leaderboard. But the odds of that ever happening is next to none, and so is an unranked queue unfortunately.
Since they’ve gone against just about everything in the manifesto, they could make HotJoins more punishing when you leave.
ON last weeks ready up they stated that they read several pages of the forum a day; not necessarily whatever is “popular”. They have people reading the forums and provide a summary of all the good ideas and feedback that was given to them on a weekly basis,
You really shouldn’t post this topic twice in two different sections….
The wardrobe is optional, you are only paying gold/money if you decide to change the skin on an item.
This is not possible due to the way race determines so much of your personal story.
The most simplest solution is to simply reset all personal story data when you change race, but people will complain that ArenaNet is too lazy to fix the real problem. So count it being never or until way later when they redesign the personal story
Based off the blog, it appears that all that is being changed is the skins. Actual armor with stats will remain in bank, but their skins will be saved in the wardrobe.
I was clearing up inventory space a few days ago and deleted like 30 transmutation stones, I don’t expect to get them back… so now I have lost out of potentially 90 charges.
I think their biggest issue is communication. It would be nice if they are going to drastically change a system like this they would at least mention something about it instead of waiting until 1 month before releasing it.
Like the blog posts for example, they gave you months in advance what was coming to GW2. Granted there are a few features that didn’t make the cut, but it was a lot less disappointing than finding out you wasted your money/gold because of lack of communication.
People have recently earned the same legendary twice, bought abyss dye for 10 characters, etc. all of which could have been prevented with a mention of a system overhaul.
I spent over a thousand hours in PvP being awarded 200 rank points a win, a patch comes out and I was awarded 1,000 rank points per win.
Did I get compensation for my previous wins? Nope. That’s about what you’re going to expect for this as well; I doubt they will refund anything.
Run Overpowered and Skillless builds, and then perform better than everyone who runs those builds in the top 1000.

Why is your PvP legendary more deserving then mine? Just because you PvP all day doesn’t mean you’re better then me in any aspect. Just like you like to time grind your pvp, so do I like to time grind my pve experience.
You can spend 10,000 hours in PvP and still be a terrible player. If you play PvP for thousands of hours and do nothing to improve yourself or challenge your skill level then you’re never going to win a tournament.
It is FAR easier to earn a Legendary in PVE than it is to win one in PVP. There’s only ONE team who will win legendaries while there are THOUSANDS of PvE players who obtained a legendary by simply grinding content over and over mindlessly.
If a BOT can grind mobs and earn gold, then buy a legendary with that GOLD then obtaining a legendary in PvE is skilless. Period.
Looks like you’re going to hate the next ready up then, they’ve already confirmed the announcement of how PvP players can obtain legendaries next week.
My friend got one a year and a half ago inside a wintersday present. He sold it for 250g AT the time
This sounds even more ridiculous than adding a blast finisher to a warriors autoattack on hammer
Not being rewarded for losing is a bad idea, and a waste of time. It makes no sense to play for a team to get rewarded absolutely nothing for your effort when its significantly easier to just quit and use that effort on another game.
It’s already bad enough where everyone quits and it becomes 7v8 or 4v5 for the entire match because the other side is winning.
I’m am thankful that the developers are understanding of this issue and at least provide rewards.
If you want to get all super serious about it, then consider removing hotjoins.
All traits will be unlockable by purchasing them; you can pretty much call it confirmed because in the PvP forums people were complaining how they had to do PvE in order to unlock traits.
A dev came in and stated all traits are purchasable and in addition to that the vendor will also be in the Heart of the Mists.
Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Traits-only-unlocked-by-PvE
Crit damage has always been broken because it wasn’t properly weighted compared to other stats. Instead of giving accurate percentages, they rounded them. This caused inconsistencies between slots, making berserker gear over budgeted in some slots.
Crit damage was weighted differently per slot:
Helmet: 1% = 16 (attribute points)
Shoulders: 1% = 12
Chest: 1% = 14.4
Gloves: 1% = 12
Legs: 1% = 16
Boots: 1% = 12Now it’s all equal:
1% = 15
Thank you, this makes a lot more sense now.
In my opinion, the change with critical damage and it being replaced with ferocity only made things more confusing. I don’t recall anyone complaining that it was difficult to understand because it didn’t appear to be the same as the other stats.
People only complained that critical damage was too strong, all they needed to do was decrease the values on the gear, not implement a new stat to make it confusing.
To make matters worse, it won’t apply to structured PvP at all! You’ll have Crit Damage in PvP and Ferocity in PvE… doesn’t make much sense to me
I don’t think people understand how large 10% less crit damage makes an impact to World Bosses. If you ran full berserk group before, think that every single person is now doing 10% less damage and now you’ll understand where survivability may become an issue.
If it’s not added, people should invest in using word pad with trait information,
Nope, like the warning states before you use it; it cannot be done again and you have to choose which side.
There is a possibility that the feature patch of April will allow you to take PvE armor into PvP, thats about your only shot unless you want to buy it again.
And there were dozens of player who got NOTHING in PvP simply because they changed regions. This update fixed that problem, and being it took them that long to fix it count it being permanent.
Message Body length must at least be 15.
That’s a Team Arena. If you’re complaining about the rank of your team maybe you should select better friends?
We know its team arena because a loss = 15 silver
