Five races. Five dragons. But now there’s actually six to go by. Sylvaries murdered Zhaitan, by the proxy of Caladbolg’s and the Pale Tree’s seemingly top-notch capabilities to fight undead but somehow subpar capabilities of fighting, well, anything else.
Drastically over simplified. Zhaitan was killed by the Pack and Destiny’s Edge. Sylvari made up a part of the Pack forces but they were only a subset. Caladbolg didn’t actually kill Zhaitan either, in fact it was never used on him. Trahearne used Caladbolg to purify the heart of Orr, which helped to weaken Zhaitan enough for the direct confrontation but it’s only one of many things that were done (killing the mouth, killing the eye, cutting off Risen reinforcements etc.).
though it is assumed that Mordy is kittened off at the Sylvari for breaking away from his command, and thus why he is attacking the Pale Tree instead of the Asura who were definitely closer to him, and their city EXPLODING with magic.
Although it’s looking likely, it’s not yet a fact :P
The attack was also most likely the result of the fact that summit was being held (if it was being held in Rata Sum likely they would have attacked it).
Conversely, Mordy could have ignored it altogether and no one would have thought he was a big enough threat that needed dealing with at that time.
True, but no one ever said the EDs were master tacticians. It seems they’ve been succeeding so far with a rather brute force tactic (make a big army, swarm over everything).
We already know we wont kill Mordremoth in S2.
Do we?
No, ANet’s extremely tight lipped about future content. I think it’s more that we’re hoping so, because with 2 episodes left… well we can’t honestly do it justice. Think about the Battle for LA, it had a lot of lead up and was spread over a couple of patches.
The problem is that if there is more than 2 episodes left that would basically mean that we will have yet another break between episode 8 and episode 9 seeing as ArenaNet usually (and very likely also will this year) takes a holiday break during the Christmas and New Years holidays. Which would mean that a potential episode 9 would not come until middle/end of January at the earliest.
Well we’re definitely getting a break over Christmas, so that’s a month or so of no content. Understandable and all (it’s Christmas after all), still I think a month minimum likely closer to 2 months.
When will you people realize we’re not SUPPOSED to kill Mordremoth?
We’re already implied to have severely destabilized the world by killing Zhaitan, killing another dragon would be a disaster.
No we’ve only had hints that it might destabilize, we haven’t seen any of this destabilizing yet. So at this point it’s still a theory.
Not very interested in the dragon itself. I am just wondering if they are setting the game up to visit other parts of the world.
FWIW, I think LS2 is a set up for an expansion pack where your new PS is to kill Morty.
That would be nice, but doubtful. ANet (or any game company for that matter) would announce an expansion back months ahead of time (for marketing reasons and stuff). So if ANet plans to do that, we’ll basically be seeing little to no new content for a good part of a year until the xpac drops. Would be funny if ANet announces “we’ve got an expansion back, it’s coming out next week” but unlikely.
What do you mean the dragon will awaken at the season finale? Mordremoth is already awake hence why everything is going to kitten with his minions running about.
Unless you meant the egg.
When an ED awakes it usually involves cataclysmic disaster. With Mordy we’ve not yet seen much destruction (when compared to the other EDs). So the theory is that, it’s awakening more than awake, and once it awakes and rises we’d see massive destruction and chaos (which we’re trying to avoid).
I dind’t even know she had a disease until I read this. I missed out on the last part of season 1, and they never comunicated it again I guess. I thought she was just injured from her golem being destroyed.
No, she’s suffering from a type of degenerative disorder (very reminiscent of ALS). It’s hinted at that she might end up being completely crippled.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Taimi/dialogue/season_1
PC: Are you injured? What happened to your legs?
Taimi: I was born this way. My legs were never strong enough to carry me very far. Don’t pity me, though. I hate pity. And I don’t need it because I do just fine for myself.
PC: I can see that. Can your legs be cured?
Taimi: That remains to be seen. The degenerative effects of my condition may spread to other parts of my body as I get older, but for now it’s just the legs.
Ok so using the reference OP game here’s what misandry is:
Misandry can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, denigration of men, violence against men, and sexual objectification of men
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misandry
So lets continue the conversation from this. Don’t point out how many male and female characters there are because that not misogency or misandry. Its not, looking at the list, nowhere do we see anything about quantity. So if you’re on the misandry side (and thus burden of proof lies on you, given the nature of this thread), please point out the male characters who are being discriminated against because they are men, who are being denigrated because they are men, who suffer from violence because they are men, or who are sexually objectified. However if there are no such men, then I do strongly believe that this discussion has little foundation since by definition then there is no misandry. Alternatively, provide a different definition if you like, but still provide examples.
Well we don’t really know all to much about the reasons why they awaken. We see some of them just awakening on their own, and other’s needing a bit of a kick start. So it’s possible that they awaken because they’re hungry enough (and thus the order relates to how much they ate before going to sleep), or maybe the starts need to align just the right way.
But since ANet seems to be steering away from the abstract esoteric fantasy (that is to say we kill ghosts by hitting them with a hammer, not by jumping around on one leg counter-clock wise while chanting reverse latin and sprinkling blessed spring water), so I’d say your assessment is probably mostly accurate.
@cureforliving, any resemblance it has to existing creatures in game is purely because Anet reuses models whenever they can to save resources. So the model is likely based off the model of either destroyer crabs or karka.
My point exactly.
Only children think that dark and brooding is adult and mature…
Although consumables are not particularly important in any part of the game this is still a nice QoL. Granted you’d probably only have need for a handful of these slots.
Because you got what you paid for already. I don’t recall anything stating that you would receive all future upgrade items.
I don’t think that really get’s to the core of the purpose of this post. You’re perfectly correct, but looking at it from TheBlackLeech.9360 perspective asking this question can possible (but doubtfully) have two results: nothing, something (such as more free items). If nothing happens he’s still where he started, so no big deal. If he gets something out of it, great. This is a no-loose situation.
Don’t know if any of you have seen this on the twiterverse.
No because I don’t use twitter (except that one time for single sign on purposes, but I soon abandoned it to lul around), and of course GW2 doesn’t necessarily feel that it’s a good idea to share these sort of things on multiple channels (i.e. like the front page of their website, this website).
Does look interesting. Not sure about the Rytlock comparison. Definitely a Charr, but the shoulder armor seems different (of course its so small so who knows). As for the http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Aloe_Seed comparison there does seem to be a similarity. Of course it also looks like a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Destroyer_Crab so maybe it’s just a standing crab-shaped thing.
The primary characteristic for becoming a Elder Dragon seems to be the capacity to hold a massive amount of magic. Also probably the ability to consume magic, but lets just go with the battery analogy. This means that you could practically just use something like the blood stones (and have the added benefit of not having them try and eat you since the whole not being alive of conscious).
As for the Pale Tree… well she’s magically, but can she absorb magic? Can she hold a massive amount of magics?
Any thoughts on more candidates, or possibly theory for what it takes to become a candidate?
To absorb a dragon’s power? Be part of the Septim lineage or be blessed by Akatosh. Wait, wrong setting.
Well yes, but it also seems clear after Skyrim that you don’t really need to be part of the Septim line, or at least it would bring up some interesting (if scandalous) questions as the Dragonborne can be anything from a orc to a cat-person.
Both the Pale Tree/Sylvari and the Great Dwarf exhibit the sort of collective consciousness that Dragons and their minions do, so they seem like good candidates.
Yes, but from what we know the defining characteristic is not the hive mind but the ability to be a magic battery.
I’m not sure about the Bloodstones, since they’re merely artifacts with no consciousness.
But being conscious isn’t a needed quality of a magic battery.
If their minds are connected (as dragon minions’ seem to be to a limited extent), then it’s possible that, upon ascending to dragonhood, they would also gain the dragons’ ability to absorb magic through each member, which would have major bearing on their ability to regulate magic.
This feels a bit apples and oranges to me though. Hive mind doesn’t inherently relate to magic absorption or regulation.
First of all, we are slowly pushing further West, which is where his tree supposedly is planted. Secondly, considering this is the area where Mordremoth dwells, it could easily indicate the fan-favorite theory that Sylvari are actually dragonspawn. His tree could be a branch of the dragon itself.
Since there is also some indication that the other tree might not have a dream it’s possible that they would be minions, but not necessarily dragonspawn.
True, but I complain that the story is starting to ask more questions than its willing to answer, which is part of the reason I’m so fond of the idea of Malyck making a return to the story-if nothing else just to tie up that loose end.
I’m fine with the asking questions and I think they do answer a lot of questions (although the tend to introduce 2 for every 1 they answer). Whats starting to tire me is how we go from one mystery plot to the next. Why did the Zepherites crash? Why is Aerin crazy? What is going on with this magic symbol with the Pale Tree in it? What’s up with the Pale Tree vision? Oh so the Master has the egg and is protecting it, mystery solved, but now we have another mystery with Caithe. Somehow I see us resolving Caithe’s little sub plot only to get yet another mystery sub plot going XD
It’s not necessarily bad, but it’s starting to feel that whenever the story starts rolling and I really get into it we run into another mystery sub-plot that we have to wait 2 or more weeks to maybe answer it.

Well I like everything ANet’s done so far. I just wish there was even more! But that’s probably a minor complain since more content is just a matter of time (please no more 3-4 months breaks pls :P ).
But yes, armor acquisition was better than relying on random drops or grinding tokens (well the gloves we had to go back to grinding bandit crests, but you get so many of them I’m somewhat hesitant to call it a grind). I prefer Silverwastes over Dry Top, mostly because Dry Top felt like a event grind. Do event X, Y, Z repeat. SIlverwastes is I guess technically similar but it’s less apparent. The goal is not to do events, it’s to defend bases (which are events but aren’t as explicit). I would love to see the Silverwaste be expanded into a new game mode (there’s a lot of potential there guys… although the logistics of it all is iffy since as new content comes along we automatically see people move away from old content to new content and so numbers become an issue). The pac-man was fun (if only because we already have tons of content that involve mindlessly killing things, so the more variety in gameplay is always good).
The only thing that I feel is lacking is new exploration map, and by that I mean more maps like the ones GW2 launched with. Although I do mostly understand why ANet’s not doing that, since it’s a lot of work with moderate engagement (how many map completions can you do before it gets boring). But still a feeling of exploration is somewhat missing in the new meta-focused maps. I’m not saying don’t do meta-maps, but in an ideal world I would have loved to see both.
Busy eating my morning cereal so kinda difficult to play, so I’m presently a reader. I’ll probably be a player afterwards. Tend to be more of a player than a reader, but it varies.
Isnt it kind of weird for an MMO Developer to stop working on dungeons?
I guess, if we were talking about a WoW style MMO, where the only new content (aside from expansions) tends to take the form of dungeons and raids. I guess it comes down to the type of MMO you’re making and the type of players you’re aiming for.
Still this does feel like on of those “if it’s not broken…” things. ANet’s trying to do something new, that’s fine. However it does feel like they should also be doing what works as well (that is things like dungeons which all other MMOs have because it works).
I don’t know, GW2 is a good game it has good mechanics and a lot of fun gameplay. But ignoring OPs attempt at extreme dramatization I do agree with him that all that GW2 needs is more content. Living World is fine, but it definitely isn’t producing as much content as some players would like.
First I believe the 5 stages is only meant for terminally ill patients, second at this point I only see depression and acceptance about poor updates (not to say they are all bad updates).
That is a misconception, the five stages apply to alot of things, not only to terminally ill patients. A good example would be pedagogy, this also applies there, and many other things. Its called the five stages of “Grief” for a reason, and you can grief over nearly everything
But isn’t most of the applications areas an informal application at best (much in the spirit of OPs post)? Pedantically speaking, I know for a fact it relates to death and was designed to describe the stages of grief on the part of those slowly dying. I always felt that it’s application outside of the palliative realm seemed more ill-fitting, or forced. It’s simplistic, and easy to understand, so everyone is trying to fit everything they can into it.
Guild Wars 1 the amazingly timeless title that it is
Really? Every time I try to play it, I can’t get over the bad UI, the boring combat mechanics, and the horribly tedious quest grind. Not timeless, so many parts of it are very much dated. Not a bad thing, since it is an old game so it’s only obvious that it would be dated. I hear a lot about how good the story is, so maybe that’s timeless. I don’t know, I don’t get that far.
There’s no better Free To Play MMO. Unless ya know of one. Suggestions welcome, natch.
True enough. I’ve tried others but I keep coming back.
Anyone else think that the Mordrem Menders look like corrupted gargoyles?
I doubt they are, since gargoyles are supposed to be extinct, but their animations really remind me of gargoyles from GW1.
Well gargoyles did mysteriously disappear, so for all we know you might just have figured out what happened to them :P
I think they’ll be leaving that for season 3. With what I imagine to be 2-3 episodes left there’s no way we’ll get to fight Mordy (or at least do so properly). Seems the egg is the big MacGaffin of season 2
Why does important stuff go years without patches and things like this get ruined?
I’d guess (and hope) that ANet has a bug list somewhere, and hopefully that bug lists contains at least two pieces of metadata: importance and difficulty (and description, and recreation and a bunch of other stuff not immediately important to this post). I’m guessing that it’s not too uncommon that the team might want to fix a couple of small simple bugs every now and then, before going back to bashing their heads against the proverbial wall that is a major bug. At the very least doing so does return a bit of self confidence (i.e. succeeding at something small after a long time of struggling with something big might make them feel better, and thus work harder on the big stuff).
Did we even play the same content Aden Celeste? Because Tangled Paths was rubbish.
Objective statements really have little value when they’re just subjective opinions in disguise. What I’m saying is: different strokes for different folks.
Not so sure about combining the two, I think the gameplay is too different between the base defenses and maze running that you might not have a lot of player overlap. Ideally you’d further improve on maze defense and keep it separate from the maze. Kinda like how GW2 has jumping puzzles but they mostly stand on their own. This type of selective participation in gameplay styles is ideal in my mind since we people like OP can do as they like and those who like the maze can do as they like. Still I wouldn’t say the maze ruined the zone.
No1 will be doing the maze after they finished the achv, especially for a lousy chest. Cost 1 silver+ to wp everytime you died. Hell no.
I like the maze, but hate the wp cost as well.
Like the poster before me mentioned, the rewards in the maze are also pretty awful. Even when you get a good streak and just completely avoid the wolves, the small pods give terrible loot — and the large pod is a pathetic three champion bags.
Or we could do things because we find it fun… and not because we’ve been placed in a skinner box.
20 mins getting 1-shotted by bosses until I’m naked. Getting thrown against bosses with ’secrets’ where I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, when I’m supposed to do it and how? It isn’t a challenge, it’s a frustrating waste of time. I’m out.
Out to what? Lunch?
Bah, see it as a challenge. Or google tactics, go look up a youtube lets play.
I love these kinds of threads...because, inevitably, someone comes on and says something like "This was too easy. I soloed it naked with only a broken bottle as my weapon."
I love these kinds of threads... because, inevitably, someone comes on and says something like *insert ad hominem*. And that’s why they’re wrong and I’m right.
I like them having more hp and hitting harder. What I hate is when you get like 7 menders standing together (and thus healing themselves up before I can kill them) and that the Terragriff lunge/charge aoe area is far larger than the mobs itself meaning I regularly dodge but still get hit. Otherwise I like the new mechanics.
When I saw this scene I really felt like this is how ANet should be doing there cutscenes. When I saw it again, I felt like ANet really should put in the ability to skip these well done cutscenes as well. Skill it’s nicer than the other cutscenes (the none puppet theater ones) that tend to be zoomed out and barely show any detail.
I seem to remember thinking: was this fine always there? Did I just not notice it?
But I do like this idea of the map slowly changing without the need for a patch first (or in Aerinndis.2730 words ‘fanfare’) makes it feel more alive.
Yeah, ANet did good by putting in the Challenge Motes to let us repeat the boss immediately if we fail the achievement.
Glad to see they took that feedback on board after the horror show of the Summit achievement.
Yeah loved those. Not sure if they retroactive added them as well to the other episodes. Which they should but I doubt it, ANet has a bad habit of not iterating on things that have been released (still waiting for that overhauled Zhaitain fight :P ).
Champion lootbags were nerfed because players were overfarming Champions… it was a really idiotic choice, instead of nerfing the ability to overfarm champs, they nerfed the bags themselves so in a sense they hurt players who are not overfarming Champions way more than champ farmers. Great Anet logic there
Also, 823 champion bags for 4 of the champ skins? Seriously?
Champ farming, judging from recent examples, seems to be an issue that needs individual fixes. There’s no universal fix that neatly fixes all champ events. So the champ bag nerf is probably the most wide reaching fix (although in some regards perhaps a bit extreme) that prevents players from simply finding another way around the small fix.
For example, in Silverwastes we had the farm near the amber base. ANet reduced the chest and respawn time, but now we have conga-lines running through the entire zone doing the same thing. Fixing the problem at amber just meant players found a way around it. So it’s a hard problem to address without over addressing it.
Is the RNG bugged in the Mystic Forge?
No that’s how randomness works.
I’ve done a bit of googling to find a nice example for you, although given my lack of personal investment I just took the first article I could find (http://www.sixthform.info/maths/?p=132&c=1). If you google “more random by making it less random” you’ll probably be able to find a few better articles.
Basically it relates to how the itunes playists had to be made less random in order to make it seem more random. What I’m getting at is that, randomness does actually produce seemingly unrandom patterns.
Yeah. He showed the recordings of his successes but not losses.
So would that be confirmation bias or texas sharpshooter? Probably texas sharpshooter.
Nope. It’s been stated by Anet that all accounts are equal.
Or more accurately all accounts have access to the same RNG sets/generators. Although technically it’s NRNG but that’s another discussion.
Hahahahahaha, oh my these forums never change. Prove something beyond any doubt, people still say its false.
What proof? You’ve certainly not given any proof.
Yes but you cannot just assume that you are correct based on the very unlikely chance that there’s a bug in the system and especially when there’s a very credible and tested mathematical theory as to how this can happen.
I go with my own misanthropic version of occam’s razor myself.
Even if it sounds ridiculous, I see no reason why he or his friend should be lying, unless you have ADHD.
Not seeing the connection between ADHD and lying… unless you have ADHD and thus you’re lying… but are you lying about lying… or telling the truth by lying… or lying by telling the truth… I’m confused.
This whole thread just makes me think that the one night I got The Lover out of the MF and then logged off and went to bed…. I should have stayed up and put more stuff in that thing!!!! AAAARRRRGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My one lucky shot is … gone… just .. gone.
That’s how the slot machines get you :P
at this point, i no longer have ANY faith that anything in this game is dropping at the rate they are suppose to.
Which is a silly statement, since we’ve never been told (officially) the drop rates of anything in game. So the idea that there’s a ‘suppose to’ drop rate which isn’t being met seems odd.
The main problem we will have in Crystal Desert is a massive amount of Undeads under Palawa Joko.
Honestly after Orr I’ve had my fill of Zombies. Even 2 years on.
Can we really base such thing in a fantasy world on real world knowledge?
Suspension of disbelieve only goes so far (unless we invoke the Rule of Cool). Eventually if we keep going back to ‘a wizard did it’ the internal consistency of the universe starts to break down and the experience becomes un-immersive. Although my lack of geological knowledge makes it difficult for me to comment on the factual nature of anything.
But what do we get in Guild Wars 2? we get everything that is listed, Humans in general feel discontent being “friendly” with the Charr, Every faction is facing internal strife, and at least humans are facing a struggle for survival against everything already swarming in the world.
Actually humans have it pretty easy. They’re major threat is centaurs. The Norn are fighting Sons of Svanir (and in general Jormag), the Asura are fighting the Inquest (and their own mad rush to self destruction), the Sylvari have the Nightmare Court and to a lesser degree the Risen, while the Charr are fighting the Flame Legion, Branded, Foefire Ghosts and to a lesser degree the separatists.
So I’d say human it’ a bit hyperbolic to say they’re struggling against everything in the world.
For those of you who don’t want to spoil the story of GW1 from the spoilers, the main point is that the strife and conflicts we experience in GW2 is not explored well enough from beginning to end levels. Even past lvl 80 into the living story, it’s not enough, there isn’t that deep hatred that old players felt against the Charr, the vibrant urge for aggression over controlling NPC towns by player alliances.
So basically you want Alliance vs Horde. That’s fine I guess and I will admit that in-game racial dislike is kept to a minimum, although lore wise there’s still a lot of distrust between the Charr and the Humans particularly in regards to Ebonhawke. But ok yes, in game my Charr never get’s cursed at when walking down the streets of Divinity’s Reach (although he’s a pretty big scary charr so that seems understandable…). I think the primary problem is more related to the areas in game we get to play, in game we have a very clear distinction between ‘this is X land’ and ‘this is Y land’. So we rarely see the overlapping areas where one race gets to run into another race and thus interact in some fashion. In the higher level zones we also see a focus more on the multi-racial factions (the orders) so again we don’t have a lot of opportunity to see what happens when homogeneous groups run into each other and thus interact.
Morally gray scenarios positions are forced upon us, such as Ascalonian decedents are forced to become the enemy, Centaurs who largely want peace (but coerced by the Modniir Tribe) are forced to become the permanent enemy.
And already morally gray scenarios are left without progress, the centaurs are already a clear example, the inquest are still considered a vibrant part of asuran society given the atrocious and unforgivable acts commited for their twisted ideology, the nightmare court still remains at large but are left with no additional substantial developments, minister Caudecus is still left in complete haitus (even though he’s apparently one of the most powerful men in the world), and Ebonhawke is still the same.
Well some people (like me) prefer a world of grays (much like the world we live in today), because it very much adds depth and complexity. Having everything black and white doesn’t leave room for much else.
In terms of the examples of story threads, I’ll admit they’re there, but I’ll also like to point out that given the nature of a MMO world (and thus the diversity of possible stories) that a lot will not get touched on for a long long time. Vanilla WoW had story threads laying around for years (some of them were only ever gotten back to in Cataclysm). It’s simply unrealistic to expect ANet to continue every single story line in every single aspect of the game all at once.
So 2 things important to this discussion we don’t know: Do European-Style Dragons exists as a distinct race, and if so do what is the biology around their reproduction.
Wow I just realised you’re having an entire conversation all by yourself. 8 posts in a row. Which takes some of the joy out of responding point by point. So I’ll just leave what I have.
Having concisely extoled the necessary function that Elder Dragons perform (the balancing of magic), he then talks about eliminating them like it is a given.
We don’t really know that for certain. It’s like finger prints, there’s no real scientific reason why they’re unique, we’ve just never really found two pares that are the same. Number of theories why but not really the point, it’s an example of retroactive explanation. We see that the dragons consume magic and release it while they sleep, and we assume that this is an important and necessary function or that without it the world would fall in chaos. But its possible that the facts are correct but our explanation and assumptions are not.
Dragon is the lease of life. Just look at the extended map of the world that was revealed to us in this latest update (Echoes of the Past). Few if any other regions of the planet we call Tyria enjoy the biodiversity of our continent.
Well I haven’t played through GW yet, but from my understanding we’ve only seen Cantha, Far Shiverpeaks and Elona. Two of those are technically deserts (more or less), but to be less technical the one is a conventional desert and the other is a frozen tundra. So bio-diversity isn’t particularly synonymous with them (or is it…). Also, we’ve barely explored the world yet, oddly enough since technologically-speaking the races should be all over the place. But I guess if your proverbial house is on fire you don’t feel like knowing what’s over the next hill.
I guess becoming an Elder Dragon isn’t exactly every creature’s idea of a dream job then.
In the case of dragons it seems as if it naturally occurs. Dragons don’ die of old age, and naturally absorb magic. Given enough time a Elder Dragons pops up.
All dragons enjoy the ability to communicate with their minds to some extent, especially Mordremoth.
We don’t necessarily know that for certain. We know that via corruption they gain access to the minds of the corrupted. Mordremoth seems to be a fairly unique case in that he corrupts via the mind. We don’t really see any Elder Dragons communicating via telepathy to those not corrupted, so to assume that all Elder Dragons can do so just because Glint could (communicate without a component of corruption) is perhaps not correct. Not sure about Jormag and the Sons though, but I think it also involved corruption and then communication.
I think some of the books were actually a wink wink towards the forums. Some of the topics in those books coincidentally (or not-so-coincidentally) corresponds to some of the more common topic of conversation on the forums (and other places I don’t go).
If you would rather you can recreate this in gw1.. It’s a pre searing quest line lol..
Yes but if memory serves the Moa is dead in game, in the story he survives. So story is nicer.
I’m guessing he can’t find his shattered dragon wings backpiece skin, even though he completed the achievements needed and doesn’t recall consuming the skin in the past. And thus wishes for Anet to recover the item for his account.
yuseok.2543, I suggest you send a ticket to support. I don’t know if they support Korean, but you can try to also add the original Korean text, because the google translate English doesn’t always make sense.
My understanding as well. I think the issues is as a result of skins being unlocked based on items (i.e. having the skins or piece of equipment available) and not based on the achievements. Meaning that if you’ve previously purchases a gem skins or achieved an ingame skin but threw it out for some reason or another (maybe not enough space) it’s practically gone forever.
Right now we’re sort of splitting out things you can “spend” between three different places: Your inventory, your bank, and your wallet.
At its core, we need to decide on one of these to compliment your inventory and call it good. As we’re continuing to introduce more items like the geodes and bandit “hello my name is” crests, this has obviously become even more of an issue
Ultimately, we either need to let you spend materials from your bank directly at vendors so you don’t need to keep them in your inventory (and then make geodes/crests materials) OR continue to make the wallet larger and larger. Or option #3 we haven’t considered yet you might think of in this suggestion forum!
Either way, we’re aware of the need and will address it “when it’s ready™”.
Wallet’s please. Bank material has a limit (depending on how much gem you spend up to about 1500 last I checked), and inventory also have a space limit (again depending on how much gems you spend to some limit). However wallet seems limitless (and given the rate at which I’m getting bandit crests…).
Or produce a new and innovative system, in which we no longer need to introduce new currencies because as I see it new currencies is just a way of getting everyone on the same starting points i.e. those with massive gold or karma don’t get any particular advantage.
I know that there was a guild vs guild in original gw but I don’t see any specific guild related pvp but just fighting against other servers (WvW). What’s the point of being this game called GuildWars 2? Just because it is the sequel?
Brand recognition. Yes.
Wooden Potato’s did a walk through where he pointed out some of the the easter eggs, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBOWdoyqJfU
Any thoughts ?
I think it’s a matter of what objectives the game gives to you. In a Raid-based MMO the goal is constantly shifting as new armour tiers are released along with new raid tiers. That is to say the primary objective is to get the new loot, so you can be ready to get the next set of new loot.
ANet doesn’t have armour tiers (beyond rare → exotic → ascended, the last of which was only included because of forumites complaining. It didn’t work out though but that’s another conversation). So the question then becomes, what is the carrot? We’re on the hamster wheel, sure but why continue running? At present the goals (as far as I can tell) are: make money (which can be done via farming), get mats for crafting (which can be done via farming) and get new skins (but with the slow introduction of skins a fare number of players have already done dungeons and stuff needed to get skins). So it’s really a matter of engagement, and given that we’re talking about MMOs here (which has for years now been training us all to be engaged not in the experience of play but in the rewards produced by play).
Biggest problem with open world event right now is that they don’t reward completion of said events, they reward during the event.
See exactly what I’m talking about. Players are engaged not because gameplay is engaging (something which makes or breaks most non-mmo games) but rather by the carrots we have dangling in front of us (which as I’ve previously noted is rather farming centrist at this point).
Cant see the point now in spending the amount of time necessary farming events and defending forts just for the pitiful Breach rewards and an inventory full of crests that serve no meaningful purpose anymore
If this was a single player RPG we were talking about the point would have been to have fun, or be engaged in the experience. A certain amount of rewarding would have been present but you don’t play through at least 10 hours (if we’re talking about a shooter) just for the reward. Not sure if this is good (for the MMO genre in general) but I guess that’s the situation we’re in.
To make players like these happy, we don’t need engaging mechanics or interesting and novel experience, or well done narratives. We need them to feel rewarded.
Do mobs drop loot in this other MMO? It’d be nice to have that for a change.
They do! And you do not have to merchant or salvage a bunch of garbage 24/7!
I think there’s a misconception, or perhaps a precision of language that’s lacking. GW2 does drop loot, lot of loot. It’s simply a matter of useful loot. Given the lack of gear treadmill, once you’ve hit the ceiling there’s really little useful loot left.
At what will be purpose of this map, you finish hearts, sp, vista’s and then what? Dead zone?
Pretty much :P
Well personally I’d prefer some exploration again (events chains, story, hearts, jumping puzzles, secret locations etc.), currently with the meta-maps (like dry top and silverwastes) there’s no exploration or story, just the meta (they’re also kinda small). It’s not a bad thing of course, a lot of players seem to prefer these sorts of maps, while seeing the exploration maps as something to grind through once maybe twice (got the feeling met.9653 is one of those players). Unfortunately beyond the meta these maps offer little substance and someone like myself (I’m casual) who prefers novel experience over grind and repetition, it’s not really that engaging.
I think ANets goal is engagement, and having group (or zerg as OP calls it) meta-events allows for more engagement. The goal is to keep people playing and zerg is a way of doing that, in the same way that raiding is a way of doing that in other MMOs.
Do we know of any relation between the Krait and the Forgotten? Or is it simply a coincidental similarity.
Not sure what the problem here is. After we trigger the assault, and kill all the bosses, we zerg around hunting for chests for 5 minutes. We redo the event, complete, zerg, rinse and repeat. My only complaint is the lack of bank access.
That’s not what always happens though, commonly everyone is gathered around amber, so none of the other bases get taken and defended, and only one of the bosses gets done. Also the other legendaries don’t spawn (because the other bases aren’t being capped and defended), so achievement chasers are slightly out of luck.
However in this particular case I can’t complain, having farmed a bit myself…
I’m anticipating a change to chests only being available during the 5 minutes after the champion phase (similar to the sandstorm on Dry Top). Otherwise, everybody is going to want to be defending the Amber tower for obvious reasons.
Probably one of the better solutions. Will drastically reduce the profit, but people will be more likely to do the events.
There is easy fix for that just remove crest from chests so players cant endlessly rotate them for keys.
Still like the idea of limiting the farming period. But I must admit, you get crests way to easily.
Suggestion: scrap the perseverance buff. Instead, give a buff that stacks up to 12, based on how many forts are held and how upgraded they are. Chest loot would be tied closely to this buff, so you’d get very little at low levels, but a bit more than now at the highest levels. Then add an extra level if you win at the Breach. The level of stacks at the end of breach lasts through Time Out. That way, people have to do the events to get the best chest loot, and you get far and away the most per key if you kill all the Champs in the Breach.
Best suggestion I’ve read. The current farm should only be possible on fully controlled and fortified map.
But it’s not really a quick fix. So although it does a better job at making people do the events its not something that we’ll see any time soon and thus not something that’s likely to be implemented.
The usually bug fixing mindset is: go with what works and is quick and easy to implement.
It is good for those who need mats for legendary’s etc after months of farming in lvl 80 zones and getting squat its kind of refreshing to see loot via the chests, granted I don’t agree with people ignoring events etc or failing them as this will just lead to the ultra nerf which you are all crying out far, then no doubt you will be back crying the new zone is dead,
Yeah I’m a bit torn, since as a pretty casual player getting mats is hard.
Also all those shouting them make 300g a day from this farm I question your maths, I farmed 300 champ bags today, and after selling off everything including the 4 exotics I only made about 45g, given that it took me about 2 1/2 hours to farm them bags, that works out about 18g/hour which is easily on par with other parts of the game.
I think by day they mean literally 24 hours of farming
Yes, this is quickly becoming a serious issue and is essentially ruining an otherwise fantastic map.
Well it’s definitely not inline with how Anet envisioned the map working (I assume).
Really Anet?
Last time in Dry Top you had to sell Pot to make a good buck.
This time you extract organs and sell them to some shady asura.
What’s in the next LS, child slavery?!We already have it. Ask Taimi.
That’s not slavery, Taimi wants to do it! It’s not slavery if she choices to do it so that she can tag along on our adventures. It’s called indentured servitude.
I’d love to wield a greatsword on my necro. However if ANet is going to do this, they’re not going to do it for just one class which means more work and more time needed. Maybe in a future feature patch, but we’ll probably only see a new feature patch next year.
Here’s a question…
If the ‘human’ gods aren’t humans, why do they take human form?
Because appearing as a eldritch tentacle abominations might not be conducive with being worshiped by anyone but crazy cults.
The human gods can most certainly be humans that have grown into incredible strenghts, the same way Kormir became a goddess.
Possible, but I’m not sure how. I can see how the Elder Dragons could have come about, given their apparent natural disposition towards absorbing magic and extremely long lives. But humans would firstly need to do something about that annoying mortality, and as far as I know Komir was only able to absorb Abby’s power because of some gift or something bestowed on her, which I interpret as meaning humans aren’t naturally disposed towards containing large amounts of magic. Still it could work, but it would have to require a slightly more complicated explanation than a couple of people getting really good at using magic. Also you’d have to ignore the concept of ‘divinity’ and assume the gods aren’t divine just magically powerful (thus assume the Asura / Charr perspective).
Consider timeline. If they have the same father, that would make Menzies at least over 1800 years old by the time of GW1, as Balthazar is said to have entered Tyria with the head of his father, and a beheaded father hardly makes more children
Well from my understanding of Greek mythology, standard biological rules don’t always need to apply. It all depends on how fantastic Anet feels like going.
So, does anyone have any evidence that the human gods aren’t humans?
Nothing other than the fact that they’re god-like entities. But to answer your question, since we know little of history of the human gods before they entered Tyria, we don’t know if they were human.
In the new living story, we are hinted to use Glint’s egg to fight Mord. Basically it’s Kralkatorrik’s power, maybe it explained why the Mordems didn’t invade the Dragonbrand.
So that blue orb might indeed be the Deep Sea Dragon’s fragment.
That requires a bit of assuming, firstly we need to assume that Glint’s baby would be corrupted by Kralky’s, which isn’t such a big leap since we have examples in Orr of corruption being passed on this way. Then we need to assume that one Elder Dragon’s corruption can harm another Elder Dragon in some way, which we don’t really have much evidence of.
For all we know they might just throw the egg at Mordy and have the egg siphon some of his magic.
[quote=4541343;Slowpokeking.8720:
She was created by Kralkatorrik, of course she was part of his power. [/quote]
Was she created or corrupted? I’m going with corrupted for the time being,
A dragon champion isn’t solely created, they could be corrupted.
The only commonality among champions are that they’re stronger than the average minion, in the case of Zhaitan they demonstrate a bit more free will, but I don’t seem to remember seeing any talkative destroyers.
Glint had free will from the beginning. As it was told by herself.
Then how did she regain her free will?
Dragon minions don’t have free will.
Some of them do demonstrate autonomy, again looking at Zhaitan. All Zhaitan’s champions demonstrated some amount of autonomy, particularly at several points in the personal story we see that they’re responsible for some of the more tactical maneuvers of the Risen (Risen usually just swarm and kill), but at the end of the day what little free (or appearance their of) will they have is in service to their master.
I think some tasks can’t easily be performed by mindless minions, so some minions are given more intelligence.
I’m talking about the branded devourer’s eggs. Even the destroyers could also lay “eggpods”. They were made of lava and rocks by the dragon’s power.
Yeah, true enough. Although it was kinda made clear that it was something that was rather unique.
So your whole point was based on some words that entirely was twisted.

Jormag has definite mind affecting powers-others may not
Does Kralkatorrik have such power? Of course it did, directly on living creatures so he could turn them into minions. So what’s wrong for its champion to have the ability to read others’ thoughts?
The Eye also proved to affect the Sylvari’s mind and read her thoughts. Even though Zhaitan didn’t show much of this kind of ability.
I think for the most part EDs can corrupt in a wide variety of ways, but demonstrate a clear preference. Jormag can also forcibly corrupt like Zhaitan, and he can also construct like Kralky. They’re evil magical dragons, I’m sure they can do a lot of stuff.
Because they Kraits were also effected by something and/or she promised them stuff that they really wanted/needed.
It is rather unlikely that she did tell them her endgame though.considering the krait were driven from their homes by a watery tentacled “something” id have thought they would think twice about aiding someone attacking someone elses home with a giant drill :P.
Your first mistake is attempting to apply logic/morality to a race made of nothing but xenophobic religious fanatics who practice slavery by shoving air breathing creatures into cramped cages below the seas.
Also they’re reptiles so they probably don’t have some of the higher brain functionality found in mammals. So they’re probably not driven by particularly complicated ideas.
We don’t really know though. There’s little outright comparisons. We do know from the movement of the world (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Movement_of_the_World) that the Charr as a whole is more powerful than the Norn, as a whole:
Although it is certain the Charr could have destroyed the Norn resistance if they but turned their entire army—or even one full legion—to the cause, warbands and smaller raiding parties could not overcome the individual strength of the Norn.
The Norn’s biggest problem thus is that they don’t have a standing army, or any sort of formal structure for large scale combat. Stereo-typically a Norn lives in a homestead somewhere far removed, and hunts and forages with the occasional trading. Which has always made me wonder how exactly Hoelbrak can even exist. Logically Hoelbrak wouldn’t be more than a large market or meeting place, no where near as large as the one in game. But that’s another discussion.
Everything else, is just speculation.
Yeah, Gadd’s an Asura and the Asura have always thought of the gods as simply being extremely powerful being (i.e. why they don’t worship them). Kinda like the Charr, although they seem to have a bit more dislike of the concept of a god.
