What is the game Devs plan Exactly ?? x.x

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

It’s easy to be confused by all this but it becomes a bit easier to see what the plan is/was when you step back and take in all parts as a whole:

  • Dungeon reward/gold nerfs announced 2 weeks prior to launch and well after pre-order.

What does the above accomplish? It keeps people who didn’t buy HoT from making to much gold and keeps people who did buy HoT in HoT maps.

  • Fractal Reward/Gold nerfs for people who don’t own HoT.

How? People that don’t own HoT don’t have access to masteries to get better rewards out of core game content. This flat out means less gold/rewards for those who don’t own HoT and gates core content behind the HoT paywall.

  • Guild Halls/Scribing Massive gold and material sinks. These were designed as massive sinks first and as social hubs second.
  • General lack of earnable armor/weapon/backpiece/glider skins like you would find in most premium-priced expansions.
  • HoT release Day gem shop purchases for gliders and outfits.

What does the above accomplish? It flushes more gold out of the economy and gets people to buy gems with real money on top of the premium expansion price you already paid. The classic double dip.

So when we look at the big picture we see that everything is designed around ArenaNet’s real world economy as opposed to them making the best product aimed at players having the most fun possible and then from that fun them wanting to spend money on the game because they got such an incredible gaming experience.

Does this mean there isn’t fun to be had in HoT? By all means, no! It just means it could have been more fun had that been the primary goal been to make the game for player’s enjoyment first and ArenaNet’s economic success come because of the fun factor.

Make elites specs buyable with gold

Iason Evan.3806

GW2 isn’t free to play. It’s more like free to try. You like it? Buy it. You don’t? Go away.

I like the idea of being able to buy elite specs a la carte. The x-pac seemed too high priced. I still hold that notion even after launch. This is coming from someone who owns multiple accounts for GW1 and GW2. There just isn’t enough meat on that bone.

I would however purchase the druid, the chronomancer and the scrapper off the gem shop. I’d love to be able to play those in WvW, PvE and PvP.

Options are good. Why anyone in this thread would want to limit the purchase options for players in this game is hilarious. What do you care if you bought the x-pac if they released elite specs for purchase on the gem shop? It has absolutely nothing to do with you.

Tribal armor set

Iason Evan.3806

I crafted the armor in PvP and wear it on all my light armor characters or at least pieces of it. I like the looks and PMs I get about it. It should be in the game though for everyone. Should it be as easy as walking up to a karma vendor in Sparkfly Fen? Nah. Give it its own PvP reward track. You get one piece per completion just like the other PvP sets.

IDK.

The way ArenaNet have been handling weapons, armor and backpieces and gliders, they will repurpose this set for the gem shop in an armor/glider combo pack for 2000 Gems and only people who own HoT will get it because players that think HoT was overpriced at $50(ME)won’t be able to get the armor set a la carte

It’s working as intended though. It’s not designed to be a fun and social place. It’s designed to bleed people of their gold. That way you are aggressively encouraged to buy gems with real money and convert those gems into gold to spend on scribing materials.

I agree with you OP. It’s awful the way it’s implemented. The gorgeous designs of the guild halls aren’t there to be a beautiful in game place to gatehr with friends. They are there to relieve you and your friends of your materials and gold in massive quantities.

This is almost as bad as the first person camera communication. What in the heck does the WvW team have to do with the team that would address legendary effects?

With that kind of blatant misdirection, I’m not so sure Colin shouldn’t be maining a Mesmer instead of an Engie.

Iason Evan.3806

The point at which I knew they were headed down a slippery slope was when they tried to make it so you could only buy gems with gold in certain increments. The community responded awesomely though by letting ArenaNet know in no uncertain terms that it was unacceptable.

I have issues with some of the blatantly terrible business practices that ArenaNet try to pull sometimes that some members of the community try to defend, but it was really reassuring to see when the community saw through that garbage and banded together to let ArenaNet know they wouldn’t tolerate that. They keep trying though.

The new glider/outfit bundle is the latest debacle. ArenaNet are outright telling people who don’t want HoT that they don’t want them using the gem shop. Why would I EVER buy a bundle that has a glider skin in it if I don’t own HoT? Sell that biz a la carte please.

I really wish they would take a page out of Gazillion or ZeniMax’s book and return to a cash shop that has more options. Sure, sell the bundles. It’s a good deal. But don’t cut off your nose to spite your face by alienating players from the gem shop who don’t want HoT. It’s not our fault we love the game but don’t see anything appealing about a fifty dollar x-pac that doesn’t seem worth the money you charged for it, ArenaNet.

[Spoilers] Choosing Allies to Murder

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I’m just wondering if the choice as to who to kill off during the Personal Stories is made based on who is the most endearing and personable character in the game?

First, the amazingly endearing Tybalt Leftpaw is taken from us. Why? Why him? Couldn’t you have taken the uber-annoying and shamefully defeatist vegetable (“This won’t end well…”) instead?

Now, for no apparent reason (it could’ve been anybody, after all) Eir Stegalkin, the epitome of a strong woman more than holding her own in a man’s world, is betrayed by someone she’s trying to help and brutally murdered. Why not take her son instead? You know, the dumb one with the idiot hairdo that we always want to send to a competent barber?

Just some random thoughts…

Tyria is a man’s world? I don’t see that at all. The first election results? Ellen Kiel won. Both Destiny’s Edge and 2.0 have more female members than male members. The leader of the humans is female. The best of the Norn until she died was Eir. The strongest that the Asura and Sylvari are female.

I could keep going but I guess what I am trying to say is that your argument holds no water.

@Iason Evan.3806 yup its only a bundle – they give you the following for 2000 gems
- Bandit sniper outfit
- Soul river glider
- Immortal weapon choice
- total makeover kit
- (5) shadow dye kit

i just dont get why its only in bundle form – i mean its clear they can release outfits and gliders on their own. This just feels a little greedy to only put the option of a bundle for 2000 gems (which is also 30% off..).

An option to buy parts would be soo nice to have. You cant even gift the bundle, which also kinda bums me out.

The frustrating part as a Ranger main is that this is exactly the type of armor that medium armor users have been asking for for ages. They totally ignore it and throw it in as an outfit that can’t be tooled around with.

The next QoL thing I want to see is them fixing their armor system so that it works better. That’s the only reason I can see that we aren’t getting new armor sets on at least a consistent basis.

If they aren’t going to include at least a fair amount of armor sets to earn in a boxed expansion, why should anyone buy the gem shop fodder that can’t be mixed and matched with pre-existing pieces? For $50 there should have been, at the very least half the amount of armor skins as in the base game included to earn. That’s not unreasonable when the asking price for the expansion was $10 less than the base game.

Heck, they should have put in 50 new dyes too and weapons and backpieces.

I haven’t logged into the game yet to see it, but is this a bundle only? If it is it’s a terrible idea.

1.) There are lots of people that don’t own or want HoT. Glider is useless.

2.) People that do own HoT may want either or but not both.

3.) This type of thing should have been in the game to earn for the price people paid for HoT. Is that just the bandit sniper outfit? It’s a pre-existing enemy outfit for players? You guys aren’t even trying anymore.

Where is the replayable content at?

Iason Evan.3806

So, umm I played HoT for a while, had a good time with the masteries and stuff in the jungle…. then it stopped being fun as expected.

Then raids came out (which they nerfed dungeons for, to switch the focus to raids) turns out bosses are easy but timed bullet sponges and our guild isn’t hardcore enough to take first boss down….

Fractals are the same boring thing they used to be and barely give any rewards after dailies….

PvP was balanced and now its just chaos with stupidly op stuff like trap dragonhunters and chill reapers….

So now here I sit with nothing to do in the game wondering, why did they nerf the rewards for daily dungeons? do they hate casual players with jobs now? and how am I supposed to make gold now? run around in Orr with a pick axe like during release of the kitten game?…

So yeah, suggestions are welcome… (I don’t hate on the game, I just think it’s stupid design to remove game features to promote other, especially since all players aren’t full ascended and got 12 hours a day to play the game).

Dungeons werent removed, you can still play, if they are fun gameplay to you.

If all the content isnt fun to you anyways, then you shouldnt play it.

Well theres barely any groups for dungeons anymore and no1 wants to do them beacuse they nerfed the rewards for them

Are you playing for rewards or for fun?

I play the TP to be rewarded which I find fun. I can see where the OP would equate being rewarded to being fun. Can you?

Players: “So you added new dungeons?”

ArenaNet: “No! We buffed loot though!”

^ If that doesn’t bug you, you are part of the problem. That’s exactly what they did to Fractals and I could totally see them doing it to dungeons in the future.

Iason Evan.3806

With the way ArenaNet handled information for HoT? No way. That being said, it’s exactly why I didn’t buy HoT either. They wouldn’t talk about what exactly was in the x-pac. I’m not talking about story spoilers or anything like that, but they were real cagey about how many maps(they just wanted to talk about map layers, lol)we were getting. They put very few earnable armor, weapon or glider skins in the game. Can you even earn glider skins as rewards in HoT? So you want me to spend full-price AAA money on an expansion that doesn’t even put half of the amount of earnable items in it that the base game has and you want me to pay for it up front before you tell me you are nerfing dungeons?

No thanks

The only thing for me that is enticing is that they said when the next x-pac hits we get HoT added retroactively. I could see 2 x-pacs the for $50 being a good price. Do I think they should charge $50 for an x-pac the size of HoT? Emphatically, no. Especially when they try to put out day 1 gem shop stuff. At least give people some cosmetics in the price of the x-pac. ArenaNet used to not pull stuff like this. There was a ton of value for the consumer. That sadly isn’t the case anymore.

Raids-the final nail in the GW coffin for me

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Regardless of what raids could have been or should or whatever academic discussion … if you ignore they are there because you don’t like them, it won’t affect the things you like about the game.

True. All of this stuff works together though. Why the dungeon nerf? Because they wanted everyone doing the same content. They are creating the illusion of population by trying to put everyone in the same place. So if raids aren’t for someone it doesn’t matter, because ArenaNet took away the impetus to do dungeons. So raids affect that.

They want people in raids and not dungeons but they didn’t design a system that teaches people how to raid like they did with the brilliant fractal system. Their design is, “Bash your head against the raid til you understand it.”

The flaw in that design is people who are raiders and are skilled enough to do the raid on day 1 won’t put up with that. That’s part of the OP’s complaint. The community and ArenaNet are gating the experience. With raid tiers, like Fractal Tiers, they could have alleviated that issue and people could learn how to do it and then everyone is happy.

People who don’t like raids period but like dungeons are screwed because ArenaNet killed loot in dungeons. I liked dungeons because I found them fun. I like raids too, but I think it was a poor idea to kill dungeons for raids. They are wholly separate things. It was also poor execution to implement raids exactly like every other dev has implemented them. They had a chance to teach their lesser skilled players how to do them and dungeons got killed off in the process.

Raids-the final nail in the GW coffin for me

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Iason Evan.3806

You know you don’t have to raid right?

I’m not interested in raiding at all. The fact they’ve added a carrot of double gold and XP just to get people to play them is telling me that they know how bad/ill thought out they are.

Sure some people will love them, there will always be people happy with anything you do. Most of HoT has been a disappointment to me. At this point if ANet do another Xpac for GW2, I’ll probably not buy it unless it’s way more content at launch than HoT, and around half the price, but I’m getting off track here.

If you don’t like raids don’t do them. If you want to and don’t have the gear, welcome to raiding in every MMO ever.

Agreed. Raids are one of the areas they could have made ArenaNet flavor and decided to eschew the idea and make them like other games. It’s just hard content for hard content’s sake. I am cool with that as this game was really lacking difficult, instanced content. That being said, they should have utilized the same basic ideas they used with Fractals to teach people how to do it. More people would be inclined that way to do them.

If they were to look at their metrics later on and find that people weren’t doing the raids even after they introduced new ones, then they would realize that the content wasn’t all that compelling. Then they could relook at how they design them to make them more engaging. I’m trying to use keywords that only marketing types like to speak in so that they understand what I’m saying :P

Raids-the final nail in the GW coffin for me

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I find it interesting that they nerfed dungeon rewards to get people all playing the same content but didn’t introduce a system for raids that helped to teach the majority of players who aren’t skilled enough to do raids how to raid like the Fractals do by easing you into the content.

Raids should have difficulty levels. You don’t get the actual top shelf raid gear that the actual raid gives. For example Raid tier 1-4 could give access to a small chance at ascended gear and tier 5-9 could increase the chances for ascended gear a tad. Tier 10 could be the raid proper with access to materials for Legendary armor. The goal would be to teach unskilled players the mechanics so that they could do the Tier 10 raid proper.

That’s the whole reason for the dungeon nerf is that they wanted everyone in HoT, right? They wanted all the players in the same place doing the same instanced PvE content. So why not give players the tools to do so just like you did with Fractals?

It makes no sense. Everyone would be happy that way. Lesser skilled players could earn their Ascended gear as they play and also craft it, and in turn the raiding community would start seeing more and more people become “Raid Ready”.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The guild halls are gorgeous. The design of progression for guild halls and scribing is seriously in a weird place. What should be a social and fun place to hang out has been designed with the goal of it being a massive time and material sink over just being a cool place guildies can call their own. Whether or not you think the implementation is good or not is moot. ArenaNet designed Guild Halls to pull large quantities of materials and gold out of the economy as its first priority. Super gross.

It’s not just AP though. They introduce these awesome systems and then never develop them into something robust.

  • The old guild system was never iterated on past its initial design. Bosses in bounty missions are still bugged to this day.
  • AP rewards. Look at the laurels. The laurel rewards were great back in the day. Now they are a pittance compared to the login laurel rewards.
  • Fractal improvements that were supposed to come in the “Fractured” update took 2 more years before they came out and rewards and high-end Fractals are hidden behind HoT’s paywall. Fractals are NOT HoT content. Period.
  • SAB and the Infinite coin debacle.
  • Dungeons could have been improved, instead they were gutted and left by the side of the road to rot.
  • 2+ years after the blog post, we are still waiting on proper PvP ladders and leagues.
  • The Legendary system was supposed to be released almost 3 years ago. What we got seems like what they had intended to give us 3 years ago. I guess they just wanted to hide that behind the HoT paywall too and use it as a bullet point on the box of “features”.

I have always been impressed with ArenaNet’s QoL updates. They are great. The issue I have is they introduce systems and then leave them as is or overhaul them and remove some form of progress and make you do it over again.

I love how people are dismissing some of the OP’s valid reasons. Some are opinions, but those are also valid reasons for giving up the game. The other things the OP is saying though are completely reasonable. The dungeon nerf complaint is spot on. There is zero reason to have nerfed dungeons from a player’s perspective. ArenaNet killed rewards in dungeons to funnel all of us into what they want us doing. That’s terrible.

ArenaNet killed rewards for Fractals and gated rewards in Fractals behind the Mastery system. You have to own HoT to be properly rewarded in Fractals. On top of it, the quickest way to earn Fractal Masteries wasn’t by doing Fractals. It was by grinding mobs in dungeons. Did you have to do that? No. But if Fractals were the content youw anted to be playing, it was the quickest way. They never even thought it through and now Fractal players have to wait until two months after release because ArenaNet couldn’t implement a well-thought out system for Fractal Masteries. That’s awful.

A lot of the stuff you talked about here OP are things we discussed in the fractal cdi ages ago. I totally agree with what you are saying. I’d much rather stories and lore be fleshed out in Fractals which are permanent content rather than in LS or Living World content which is temporary. With the relative ease with which a Fractal level 1-30 can be accomplished I think it would really benefit the game and we’d actually be able to see stories be finished that ArenaNet never bothered with endings for.

What happened to Livia after she got the scepter of Orr? What about Evennia? I’d love to see a battle in a Fractal centered around the founding of Ebonhawke. Something that takes place in the Wizard’s Tower or centers around the personage of Isgarren. We’d be able to see future events as well. It’s a shame more time hasn’t been dedicated to this but we have had tons of great temporary events that we will never get to see or play again. This game lacks in permanent group content after the dungeon nerf.

Will opened fractal encryptions be wiped? Because a lot of people (+ me) are going to save their unlocked encryptions until the patch to get better rewards…

I disagree with having to buy an item to get a reward. That’s not a reward. It’s a thinly veiled gold sink. I also disagree with hiding core game content(high end fractals and their rewards) that was supposed to come out two years ago in the “Fractured Update” behind the HoT paywall. I shouldn’t need HoT masteries to do core GW2 content.

Fractals aren’t HoT content. If you added new HoT themed Fractals, that would be one thing. You didn’t. You took old content and put rewards behind HoT’s mastery system. That needs to change. Fractals and their rewards should all remain as core features seeing as they are core GW2 content.

It may seem scummy to not allow base game players to get Fractal masteries, but you have to keep in mind that they are not NECESSARY for doing fractals at all. Also, if you are an avid player interested in the game and all of its content, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be buying the expansion anyway.

I am an avid player with multiple paid acccounts that has no interest in HoT whatsoever. That being said I love Fractals. Fractal masteries are required for high level fractals. They also make loot better. There are HoT gates on Fractal content. That’s just a fact. I find it really lame to be honest. I am not buying HoT so I can be rewarded better and do high-end fractals which are base game content.

Why Would Anyone Buy Black Lion Keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iason Evan.3806

I’d spend money on the gem shop if they brought armor sets back. I bought a ton of armor sets. On both accounts actually. You know how many outfits I bought? One. After that, I never wanted another outfit again. Why? Because I can’t mix and match them to make a style that is my own like I can with armor sets. The other reason I won’t spend money on the gem shop is that ArenaNet has zero problems using gambling to get people to buy stuff. That in and of itself isn’t my beef. My beef is that they want to put very little in the game for us to earn by way of new armor sets and weapons and backpieces compared to what’s released on the gem shop.

Start putting armor sets back in the game to earn with good quality. New T1-3 cultural sets. Is it too much to ask for a new set of armor to earn in pvp every year? What about WvW?

Oh well. If they just want to put out outfits on the cash shop and leech money off of gamblers that’s their prerogative. I’ll spend money in WIldStar and Marvel Heroes.

if they don’t seem worth it to you don’t buy them. i agree. they are lackluster. i liked them back when i could get 5 keys for 30-40g(a long time ago). they just aren’t worth it now. i like marvel heroes boxes. they give you a random hero or costume and boosters and feel worth the money spent. i really wish arenanet would add incentive to these boxes. they feel really expensive for what is in them. they aren’t for me though. they are for gamblers. idk where the allure for gamblers comes from though in those boxes. the odds are terrible and the high-end rewards aren’t a great return on the gambling addiction endorphins.

Well its everyones right to voice their opinions, and if people feel passionate about the failures of HoT, then so be it. Not everyone is satisfied with their experience and some people are upset/disappointed so far. Now if you really like HoT or are just tired of reading it, then just take note of it and move on. Considering that right now, there are many game modes that are almost dead or completely dead (dungeons and wvw), its going to make more people outspoken.

Besides, if you don’t let Anet or moderators know you’re disappointed, changes will never be made to make it better and they’ll just assume they’re going in the right direction.

^ Can’t argue with that logic. Constructive too. People have issues with the content and they should keep voicing that. As long as it’s respectful, it’s good. ArenaNet should welcome constructive criticism from their players.

Here are some pretty good ideas on criticism by Raph Koster (long time game developer).
http://www.raphkoster.com/2013/10/14/on-getting-criticism/

most developers should think about this.

Nice. I especially liked this bit.

“People who tell you you’re awesome are useless. No, dangerous.

They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is."

Food for thought. I’d much rather that people like the OP detail what they like and why about the game than that they kitten about others’ feedback.

Raph Koster made the best sandbox MMO ever made. ArenaNet could learn a thing or five thousand things from him about how to design a guild hall. The guild hall should just be a huge sandbox for guildies to play in. Instead it’s a time-gated, money and material sink first with fun and fellowship placed near the low rung of the ladder in terms of priority.

Personality stats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iason Evan.3806

What ArenaNet wants to do with the game on a monthly basis is a really odd thing as a player. Heck, Silverwastes and Dry Top were just live environment beta tests for HoT content. There’s a place on the map for Polymock. The original guild missions systems was built to be iterated upon and they scrapped it along with all of our progress for this new system they say is also built to be improved and added to. Achievement panel? Same thing. Have they added to it? Nope.

The personality system will never see any changes.

With that logic then the human city of, “Ebonhawke” should be “Ebon Hawk” because in Star Wars it’s a ship and it’s two words and it doesn’t have an “e” at the end and it’s a reference in game to that ship. Most of this stuff is reference or relating to certain things. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, OP.

Iason Evan.3806

I think you make some good points about things that should have been addressed already in terms of broken recipes and such. To me, it’s a shame they decided to use guild halls as a way to pull materials out of the economy instead of making activities for the guild to do together to level up the guild.

I think it would have been more fun for players if they had put in more content like the content for actually acquiring the hall itself. My guildies had an absolute blast getting the actual guild hall. After that, there isn’t any fresh content for players to do to level the guild together.

I think the guild halls also should have had activities inside of them such as adventures, races, and jumping puzzles that counted as guild missions. Lost Precipice seems ripe for gliding puzzles. All they would have to do is add floating rings to make a course. They could make several of these. You could activate them whenever and have races etc.

They seem very reluctant to add sand box style framework for halls to let guilds go wild with it. Everything is gated and measured and it seems to be designed more with the economy in mind than it does for guilds to just have fellowship and fun and that in my opinion is a huge shame and a waste because these are gorgeous spaces.

Karma the most useless currency?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Currency in general is bad in games. Why? Because it can be stockpiled. When developers release new content they can’t use the old currencies for new stuff so they have to implement new currency. I’ve seen very few MMOs that actually handle this in a good way. Turbine(LOTRO dev)used to consolidate it. That’s OK, but you get slighted because the conversions are bad.

I’d rather see developers keep implementing cool new stuff you can get from currency vendors. It’d be nice to look at the patch notes and see: _ 2 new karma armor sets added for light, heavy, and medium._ Who cares that we can stockpile it? *Give us cool ways to spend it! Players appreciate that.

plz nerf spider farm

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Having multiple ways to do things is good. If people want to farm a certain type of mob instead of doing events, let them. Heck, with the spiders they actually get to use their Magic Find. A fairly legitimate argument could be made for actually making magic find viable again instead of nerfing mobs. I don’t agree with the mentality of nerfing farming areas instead of increasing odds of getting sought after items by petitioning the developers to reinclude a stat many of the players worked hard to increase.

OP, you do get that the devs want us to spend money on the x-pac and then spend our gold or real money to get “rewarded” in the gem shop, do you not? There’s a pretty hefty conversion fee in that. You should be all about ArenaNet boosting the rewards in events to make the various farms in the open world less attractive because the events are so lucrative. Farms shouldn’t be nerfed. Events should have their loot tables bolstered. Too much loot is never a bad thing in my opinion.

This Guild Hall talk has to stop!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I really really really don’t understand where this “small guilds can not have Guild Halls/Favor” talk is comming from. I see a lot of topics on it and people are saying the biggest nonsense I’ve ever seen here on the forums.

My guild has 2 people. Me and my wife.
We have our guild hall. We have almost 2000 favor. And we even have upgrades in our guild hall. The coolest thing that I am very proud of is the fact that until now we did not even spend gold on the upgrades, (and believe when I say we have more then enough gold/materials) what means that with patience and farming you can have this upgrades for almost free until a certain point.

Before HOT we could not even start a mission. We could not even obtain merits!

I don’t know about all this people saying otherwise but they just talk nonsense. The one thing HOT really did for us is making guilds very small guild friendly. Please friends do some more effort when you want to achieve something. Don’t come here on the forums asking for everything to be thrown at you.

FOX…

It’s not that you don’t understand. It’s that you don’t agree. Which is totally fine. It’s also totally fine not to agree with the way it’s implemented. As long as people present their opinions in a way that isn’t hurtful to others it’s all copacetic. Don’t hate on others opinions.

[SPOILERS] Glint [SPOILERS]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

That is a cool idea but would be a seriously major retcon and a disappointment. In GW1we already saved a bunch of Glint’s eggs from a different dragon trying to destroy them. In HoT you do it again. Glint is a good dragon. We saved her in GW1. To then corrupt all that would be a letdown and an easy way out.

To be quite honest, I haven’t found ArenaNet’s touch with story telling to be deft enough of late to pull this off. They have had flashes of brilliance, but I would much rather see us save the egg and have that dragon grow rapidly and be an ally. My faith in ArenaNet to pull off a cool dragon vs. dragon fight is there. They could pull that off beautifully. It would be amazing to see two dragons teeing off against each other while we fight minions of one of the dragons. I’d much rather see that come to pass as that has been the story all along. The twists should come in different forms. Saving Glint and then Glint dies and saving her children two times only to have one get corrupted is too soap-opera like.

Checking the website…finding out the new blogposts, read them, come to the forums baffled by the Economic one, see dozens of threads, read them all and conclude one thing: What the hell is wrong with you people? What were you thinking?

Since there are so many threads and official responses also, the impact this will have will range from loss of players (both active and possible customers) to the nuclear fallout of the economy. Yes, they will be monitoring, but to be honest, they didn’t do nothing with the current one for the past 3 years. I just do not have faith they will be able to contain, especially with these changes.

So let us see what is happening:

- Dungeons are officially (through response and blogpost) killed. Dungeons are a great and fast way to get solid gold for all these inflated mats and items on the TP. The motivation was the initiative to play fractals and raids. Yet fractals will not be getting any new content, and what it gets, more or less should have been here with Fractured patch back in ‘13 that they still haven’t apologize for.

How good can the rewards be in HoT that they need to decapitate the current dungeon gold system. If they were better, then the majority of players would play that content and not dungeons, and the dungeons would still be a good income for the new players and the ones that did not buy HoT. They are fast, easy, they are a farm. Why gut the reward system if you want to put a new, better one that will not overlap? Or will it really be this good?

- Scarcity in materials…in low level ones. Why? In what scenario can this resolve anything? It doesn’t make any sense. You are heavily gutting mats (cloth, silk etc) that are abundant at the moment. It jumps to extremes. What will become of the people that do not have a good amount of money when HoT launches?

Up until today, after the fiasco with “required, no, recommended” for ascended gear, anyone who would cry, I would instantly consider him a troll due to how easy is to craft ascended armor. But with these changes, they will have a gargantuan task on their hand. Since it’s recommended for raids, they will automatically assume it is required. Just think a second at this situation.

- The existing inflated mats/items. What now? Will you do something with them? What? Making mats that can be easily acquired and traded for gold scarce? Nerfing dungeon gold income? Or is it the new better HoT rewards? If they are better why bother destroying everything else? If they are the same, then the whole overhaul will be for nothing except to create unwanted scarcity and nerfs. If they are worse, we all know the outcome of that.

- If in 3 years, inflated mats and items could not be controlled what makes you think all this scenarios can be kept in line? I am assuming they did try to control and regain power over the market as opposed to just watching and slide it under the carpet.

- In what scenario, real life even, can a good outcome result from creating scarcity where there is abundance, gutting the way of earning fast income, everything in an over-inflated economic situations based on the premise of “We will give other, better ways” knowing that nothing could be controlled in the last 3 years.

- Dungeon nerf mean the farming persons will stop playing them and if they do not like the raids and fractals they are lost.
- Ascended just became a gargantuan task and thus casual players will whine which will result in nerfing of the raids. With them nerfed, for the 3rd time, hardcore crowd will be getting a middle finger. They will leave. Raids became a failed experiment yet again and all the people that would want a challenge will leave since a 4th time there won’t be a cater to them.
- Players that do not own HoT yet or just do not want to buy it will have no means of acquiring gold – SW will also be nerfed (forgot where I’ve read), again dungeons. The ones that would possibly buy HoT will see the above mentioned and again will leave.

These are some possible scenarios. I do not know who why or if they will leave the game, but in theory, there is a huge risk with all these changes.

I just cannot understand what is it to gain that is worth all these risks? It is for the first time that I truly believe the game will “Die” if this backfires. Where did I make the mistakes that will invalidate the post? Someone please correct me, I do not want to be correct!

I bolded the part of your quote where you answer your own question. They don’t want rewards to be good for people that didn’t buy HoT. That’s why Fractal rewards are garbage for people that didn’t buy HoT, and why players like me who have been doing Fractals for years have no access to high-level fractals.

You were right though. It all should have happened with “Fractured”. Instead they threw old content behind a paywall and didn’t bother adding any new content to it at all. Heck, they couldn’t even be bothered to make new skins for the fractals weapons. They just added gold to existing ones.
