Illconceived Was Na.9781

As ridiculous as this thread is it would be nice if guilds and servers did what they could to punish their players if they catch them cheating. I for one would instantly kick someone from my guild and see that they are banned from our servers TS, as well as reporting them. I hope others will do the same.

Guilds do. A lot of times, the guild isn’t aware if the person is cheating. If it’s a big guild, it should be easy enough to find contact info, even from those on an opposing server. If it’s a small guild, then you’d have to work harder to find the GLs, but it’s usually still possible.

Each guild I’ve been in, the leadership has been very quick to deal with people who spoil the enjoyment of others, whether it was botting or harassment — if they knew about it. The only times I saw inaction was when folks didn’t take the time to let the GLs know there was an issue.

It would be helpful if ANet let guilds know when one of their members is suspended (but not banned), although I can see plenty of reasons why the company wouldn’t want to do that.

too much dust, ore and fragments

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The alternatives are:

  1. ANet decreases the drop rate for these mats, so they fill up inventory more slowly.
  2. ANet increases the number of uses for these mats, so you need to collect more.
  3. ANet maintains the status quo, where the biggest problem is deciding how many fragments and ore to delete.

Personally, I prefer (3): I’d much rather it be easier to collect and end up with too much than having it be hard to collect (or needing a ton more) and never having enough.

In no particular order:

  • Champ farms, which is mostly Frostgorge these days.
  • Event chains, notably temple events in Orr but also things like the seraph clearing the centaurs out of northern Harathi or keeping the hylek safe in sparkfly. In these examples, you get a ton of mid-tier gear which is often more valuable than L80 equipment. In all cases, it is more lucrative with a small zerg.
  • Southsun Karka farming. There’s nearly always a train.
  • EotM is nothing but a farm these days. You get a bunch of champ bags and karma for completing events, not to mention miscellaneous loot.
  • Special events and maps, currently Silverwastes.
  • Farming for specific mats, such as T5-6 venom, blood, and scale on the beaches of southsun (i.e. not karka). You can google various routes, especially one that’s maintained by someone on the wiki in their personal user space.

Could BLTC skins be free to apply please?

There’s a huge difference between ANet adding elite weapons to the HoM in GW1 and reducing a potential profit source for them in GW2. In the first case, they made it possible for more people to progress their HoM score easily. The equivalent in GW2 would be making it easier to obtain achievement points, which ANet has already done in various ways.

The suggested change to GW2 is to remove a convenience fee that everyone pays for every other skin in the game. Cultural, Pact, Legendary, and other skins all cost a lot to obtain, but we only get one free skin of each — and in the case of Cultural & Pact weapons, we don’t even get to apply it to ascended stats. The GW1 equivalent would be … well, there is no GW1 equivalent because skin & stats were linked together.

I confess I’m not a fan of collecting transmutation charges, but it seems reasonable to me that we pay a small fee per use for skins generally and I don’t see BL skins as being more special than the others.

There’s a way to expectedly get a precursor, outside the TP?

My most unexpected was when Hunter dropped. I was in Mount Maelstrom doing a vanilla bean run. I was running past some undead and scale fighting each other when they slowed me down by tagging me and putting me into combat. I punished them with a fiery death.

Hunter popped as part of the loot from one of those foes that I normally wouldn’t bother with.

As others have noted, “best” depends on your needs. Some have offered suggestions based on assuming what those needs are.

I knew I was going to have four characters crafting and would max crafts early on, so I tried to match the disciplines together, even though that means my mesmer is the armorsmith and can’t use much from that discipline. That led me to make different choices than others have recommended above.

Some people like to figure out how to max their crafts on their own, so using a guide is out for them.

As far as I’ve been able to test, the only back item that works as a light source is Mad Memoires Complete.

Other light sources are listed on the wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Light_source

So, the OP is correct that there aren’t any currently-craftable back items. There are only a tiny number of non-torch weapons that act as light source and, also aside from torches, I don’t think there are any wielded light sources that work for anyone aside from the character equipping them.

I am sure it’s very annoying to suffer this on a daily basis, but I don’t see anything posted so far that suggests it affects more than a tiny fraction of players. Plenty of others deal in multiple transactions over short periods and don’t seem to be slowed down.

I suspect that ANet is balancing the needs of the many vs the comforts of a few.

I wouldnt say impossible. I was on a T6 map a few hours ago. Organizing works well with TS.

Since TS doesn’t come with the game, I don’t think that counts as a fair work-around.

The game should make it easier on people coordinating events that require map-wide cooperation. At the very least, people with commander tags active should not get suppressed as quickly. Ideally, players without commander tags should also be able to call out events.

On occasion, I’ve been suppressed in Harathi Hinterlands announcing the progress of the chain where the Seraph push the centaurs out of the northern camps. And I typically just announce current event/WP and upcoming event/WP, so only a handful of messages total.

Quick question regarding Karma

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I loved the good-ol-days when you would save up 4 months’ worth of karma potions from daily, monthly, dungeons, etc., then activate every karma boost possible, get +95%, then drink them all. then you would go buy orrian boxes, open them, and drink all the karma that came out and repeat that like 30 times until you had 0 karma and 40 mini risen priest of balthazar.
but now that is no longer how it goes.

IMO, it’s far better now:

  • You don’t have to waste inventory space anymore.
  • You don’t have to beg/borrow/steal boosters, banners, etc
  • You get an automatic +50% boost without any extra effort.

Sure 95% is better, but that required a lot of micromanagement. I’ll take reduced tedium over that.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I think it’s a cool idea to introduce a few new profession-oriented skins. The game already includes skins that unlock during character creation that were originally specific to each profession. I think it might be a good idea to offer some new options and a wizard’kitten could be a good choice for elementalists.

The current skins are listed on the wiki’s Biography article, so I’ll just highlight the current options:

  • Elementalist: Glacial, Flame, Stone, and Storm “eyes” — these are definite prof-appropriate, but they are too specific to an attunement for my taste, plus they aren’t very noticeable.
  • Necromancer: I love the skull mask for necros. (The other two skins are meh for me.)
  • Thief: the anonymity hood is great; the two masks aren’t bad. These really suit the prof imo.
  • Engi: Universal multitool pack and Panoscopic monocle are stellar choices that fit this class well imo.
  • Warrior & Guardian: some helms or shoulder gear. I’m not a fan, but they do fit the professions and there are fans of each.
  • Mesmer: I don’t think any of these suit the GW2 mesmer. They fit the theatrical connections that are loosely associated with the GW1 mesmer (a different class imo, using the same name). Besides that, I don’t find any of them attractive. I’d rather see something that fits the ethereal nature of illusions, perhaps stylistically similar to the weapons wielded by phantasms.
  • Rangers: pets are their “skin” — seems like they should have some armor options, too.

tl;dr I agree it’s time for some new prof-oriented skins.

I sell numerous items every night at the end of my play session and I haven’t run into this because I don’t try to sell all of them in 20 SECONDS!!! It’s probably because I don’t sell to high bidder and I take a moment to set the price that will be more profitable than highest seller but will likely sell in 12-15 hours.

I’m betting you all think instant coffee and microwaved meals are too slow.

I have run into this less than 5 times since the TP went live in September 2012. I buy and sell tons of items. I’m reasonably sure that I am quicker at it than most of my guildies.

So, while I’m sure this is happening to some people, I’m not sure the problem is that widespread. Even if I’m wrong, and it affects more than 0.5% of legit traders, it might be a reasonable trade-off, assuming it succeeds in slowing down gold sellers, botters, and account thieves.

Gem Store Weapon Skins

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I far prefer skins being available on the TP than in the gem shop or as a one-time/character offer from the story or as account-bound drops. If it’s on the TP, I can do whatever content I like, save up gold, and buy it, assuming I want it enough to pay the price. Stuff that drops or is only offered once per character requires me to repeat content that I might not wish to repeat — that’s boring and tedious to me (which many refer to as “grinding”). In theory, gem shop skins can also be acquired via gold, but often, they are more than I’m willing to pay.

That said, I recognize that we all have different preferences about skin acquisition, so I’m glad that ANet caters to the different groups by making weapons available in a variety of different ways. Some skins I want are not available the way I would hope; sometimes the skins that are available via the TP are ugly to me — that is why there are so many skins and so many ways to acquire them.

To remove someone using hacks (teleports, speed, etc) we have to witness the act in game so you must use the in-game reporting tool. The only exception is if you can point us to chat where the player cheating has said they are using a 3rd party program.

The problem is: The in-game reporting tool doesn’t give an option to actually point the person is hacking. And a lot of people are afraid of reporting for somenthing else because we risk getting our accounts suspended for “false report”.

Can Anet at least add a “Hacking” option on the report list?

You are not going to get suspended for “false report” unless you do it to grief someone. ANet knows that players can’t tell for certain if someone is botting, hacking, or otherwise breaking the TOS; only ANet can do that. They understand that there will reports that turn out not to be validated; that will not get you suspended.

It is only those tiny number of players that abuse the reporting tool that will get suspended.

So report people if you suspect them. If you see a repeated pattern, create a ticket or send an email so you can include screenshots or video or other details. I know there’s a redpost saying ANet has “to spot them in action,” but they can backtrack and/or follow someone in game, if you provide enough details that shows there’s a systemic issue. ANet knows that sometimes, it’s hard to click on someone in the act of hacking.

At first glance, the idea doesn’t seem so outrageous: you spent a good deal of effort and/or funds to acquire the nodes and it’s tedious to remember to move a toon to the home instance each day & jump between the nodes. So why not make it automatic?

For the same reason that you can’t harvest nodes in any other zone without actually moving your character and interacting. Why should the home instance be treated any differently? If anything, it’s already more convenient because you get a guaranteed set of drops, without having to scavenge for them. IMO, that’s benefit enough.

The worry for me is that with only 550 on the TP the price can be artificially inflated by someone with only a few thousand gold.

Usually when people try to do that, folks who have been holding them in storage for no reason come out of the woodwork to sell. The price spikes briefly but then drops quickly too, sometimes below the old equilibrium. Some people make out like bandits when that happens, but often it’s not the would-be monopolist. Instead, it’s hoarders and a few very flippers (who are very clever or very lucky or both). Or put another way, if it was that easy to permanently corner the market in a commodity, it would already have happened.

What kind of RNG engine does the game use?

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Generally speaking, the level of non-randomness seen in pseudo-RNG is so small as to be unnoticeable by even the posters in this thread pooling all our data. Coincidences happen, so it’s not proof of anything that the OP has seen several of the same items popping up among their acquaintances and friends.

That said, OP is correct in suggesting that the choice of pRNG tool could matter, especially if seed selection isn’t properly managed. And OP is also correct in thinking that ANet chose one tool or another and someone could tell us. OP is also probably correct in thinking John Smith would be a good person to ask.

However, I can’t imagine why ANet would give us that sort of information. Those who don’t understand pRNG or probability can’t make use of the knowledge; those who are intimately familiar with the details might be able to take advantage of such data. But more importantly, the vast majority of us, who only think we know something about the topic, would draw incorrect conclusions based on insufficient information about how GW2 actually works. As Trahearne used to say, “this won’t end well.”

tl;dr it’s most likely that the question is moot and even if it weren’t, it’s not in ANet’s best interests to tell us.

  • Fused (Mar-2013): ~500g

  • Tempest (Sep-2014): ~60g

People seem to have misunderstood the OP’s point. OP starts from the following:

  • Precursors can drop from any mob or chest that can drop exotics. That is true everywhere for L80 characters.
  • Therefore, the drop rate must be super low so that precursors aren’t dropping “too often.”

OP proposes that:

  • Precursors no longer drop from non-boss mobs.
  • Precursors no longer drop from any of the world bosses, except those that have been revamped.

In exchange, OP asks that:

  • The drop rate for precursors be noticeably increased for the few places they continue to drop.
  • The remaining drop situations involve the most challenging content in the game, probably meaning some dungeons (but not all), a very few world bosses, and the latest map-wide challenges from the Living Story.

Personally, I prefer the status quo: I can do any content I want, save my coin, and buy the precursor on the TP.

The reason a lot of sites stopped working a year ago is that ANet replaced world-specific maps with the so-called “megaserver” and so it’s no longer practical for a single website to determine which events are going on in the instance you happen to be in. The OP seems to be playing a different game than I. From the beginning, I’ve seen map instances that appeared empty and disorganized and others that are crowded and coordinated. That includes pre-bandit-chest-drop-rate-nerf and post.

The thing that seems to have changed the most is that maps that are starting to succeed have people encouraging each other to use the LFG tool to taxi people into the same instance. This tends to empty out less successful maps, making them seem underpopulated. And, for a variety of reasons, if you just zone into the area, you’re more likely to end up in those seemingly-low-pop maps, reinforcing the impression that things are empty.

Further, it takes only a handful of people to change a low-pop map into a successful one (at least, as far as getting Breach to occur sooner): 1-2 people dedicated to each doly escort and 2-3 people at each fort (making sure that siege gets used, that rubble is collected quickly, and that the NPCs are protected). The speed at which supply reaches the forts seems to make a huge difference.

tl;dr use the in-game LFG tool to find a coordinated map or start organizing one yourself

Havoc's Heir Airship moved to Dry Top/SW ?

I’ve been hoping that the Airship would move around with each new chapter. Perhaps not to the current danger zone (e.g. Silverwastes right now, Dry Top earlier), but perhaps following one to two zones away or even moving between the different Pact HQs: Vigil Keep, the Priory, Whisper’s Lair, and Fort Trinity.

Commander Spoon Causing Game Crash

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The Siege Commander’s Spoon is account-bound on acquisition, meaning it should get automatically added to your collection when you find it — assuming you have the starter item, i.e. the Collectible Spoon Box Since that’s free, there seems little reason to wait to pick it up.

Once you own that, you can manually check that you have credit for the WvW spoon by going to the Hero panel (default key: [h]) → Collections → Basic Collections → Koutaphile. If for some reason you don’t have credit for the Siege spoon, sell the spoon to any vendor and buy it back (also from any vendor) before you exit the map. In the worst case, just sell it and wait until you get another (they seem to drop reasonably often).

If none of that works, fill out a support ticket so that they can follow up with you personally. (Reporting here works for getting the dev team to address the bug, but won’t necessarily result in individual attention for your account.)

Good luck and if you have time, please let us know how it turns out.

Halloween Skrit Wrapper Weapon Skins

I know from a few people who sniped several skins for cheap and hoarding them now
So the skins never reach the people who really want them only traders profiting for the most part.

The point is: there are a lot more people “who really wanted them” than any reasonable raffle could every provide. I’m not sure why folks thought the day after the raffle would mean huge price drops with so few becoming available.

What are your "Oh wow!" moments?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

  • First time seeing Tequatl and Clawr of Jormag appear. (Shatterererererer never impressed me until I fought her with siege and I could finally see her from afar.)
  • The vistas. (Someone said, “yeah, that’s boring now,” and it is, because I’ve done so many. But the first time: wow. and wow again. Every so often, I stop just to watch and remind myself.)
  • The first Tarnished Coast victory against the new Tequatl. People didn’t really know how things worked yet and Rekkt led us through it and it was amazing.
  • The first time we defeated Little Scarlet, aka Made Marion, aka the Marionette. The particular map I was in had no commanders, just a bunch of us scrubs added calm reminders about what to do, where to focus, etc. Organized raids are fun for the machine efficiency, but PUG raids are “wow” moments when they work, because they aren’t run perfectly.
  • The Branded part of Ascalon. Stunning.
  • The Colossus bowing in Cliffside (I didn’t know it was coming). The way he breaks away from the cliff and stops to turn.
  • The Karka Roll, during the first attempt at Living Story stuff. Tons of issues, but when it was working: wow.
  • Same with the destruction of LA both times. Amazing before & after.

Some will point out that many of these things happened before the 1 year anniversary. True enough. I’ve had plenty of “wow” moments since, but I didn’t want to create a 4,000 word post.

Useful Info: Cost of Storage

Thanks for posting this. I periodically do the same thing for guildies and it’s been interesting to watch how the most economical choice has changed over time.

One thing I try to remember is that financial efficiency is only one important criterion for deciding how to expand storage. The other is convenience: buying a new account for US$20 is a great way to add a ton of inventory slots, especially using a shared “personal” bank, but it’s horribly inconvenient and tedious for me. I prefer having a maxed out account vault so that I can find stuff easily; I relegate to guild bank & mules only those things that are rarely used.

gem bought skins

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There’s a reasonable point of view in which gem store skins would be re-usable, just like e.g. HoM and Zenith skins, which are free to transmute. I suspect that would require ANet to increase the gem prices of such items. Since people already complain about the gem, I’m not sure I see the financially benefit to ANet to make the change.

There’s also a reasonable point of view to the existing system: every skin change costs transmute charges (with a few notable exceptions) and spending gems doesn’t change that. I’m also ok with this system, because I tend not to transmute that often (even when there’s no cost) and I like spending less on skins.

I can see why individuals might favor one system or the other.

You can keep trying to say that Anet doesn’t have a hand in setting prices,

No one is saying that ANet has no influence on prices; John Smith’s job includes recommending changes to mechanics and rates that are designed to influence prices.

Instead, people are saying that ANet doesn’t constitute a “monopoly.”

More to the point, it’s not a useful term to use, as it doesn’t help the community. At best, it’s misleading. At worst, it distracts discussion away from things that ANet could do to improve the game (controversial or otherwise) and from things that the average player can do to improve their income.

Actually it’s what was said

I am not missing the point, you are just trying to argue something different, while i just state that prices are entirely set by players, a statement you still have to prove false.

Right there^ “prices are ENTIRELY set by players”

I was only responding to that…not the whole monopoly deal.

Yes, Wanze is correct: prices are set by players. At best, ANet merely influences the conditions under which players make those decisions — that’s not the same as setting prices. That distinction is significant in the context of the OP: monopolies set prices, not just influence them. (They influence secondary and tertiary markets, but they aren’t a monopoly in those markets.)

(Minor point: ANet has set the floor pricing for items in two ways: through the vendor price and by preventing TP sales for less than vendor +~18%. But again, that only influences the prices; nothing stops players from offering more.)

I think we need Capes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

With all the other clipping and errors in this game (that will never get fixed I’m sure) I think that no one who still plays the game would care about this except some particularly anal designer. It CANNOT be the reason we do not have capes it is just so utterly stupid.

Please remember to speak for yourself.

There are already back items that conflict with certain weapons and it looks ugly enough that I tend to avoid displaying back items for that reason. As I see it, saying that there are “plenty of clipping errors already” is a great reason to be cautious adding more items that cause still more clipping issues and display errors.

Mind you, I would like to see Capes in the game. I just don’t think it’s as simple a situation as expressed above. If & when they get added, I want the community to echo with cheering, not see a mountain of complaints in /map & the forums about how ANet didn’t do a good job of implementing htem.

What collections are worth doing?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

None of the collections are financially “worth it” in my opinion — you can obtain equivalent rewards without investing that much time, effort, or gold. I’d only go after the ones that appeal to your inner Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or that are otherwise fun or interesting to you for other reasons.

Khisanth is correct that Uncanny Canner is probably the cheapest 20-slot bag in the game. But it requires a lot of scavenging to obtain all the jars and I’d rather spend that time doing fractals (or converting my excess candy corn into 20-slot candy pails).

Other collections offer less attractive options and some are incredibly expensive, e.g. most Black Lion’s Collections cost the equivalent of at least 16 Black Lion Tickets and reward you with seven BL Tickets as a reward. (In practice, the costs are usually much higher.)

Depends if you want to spend time or gold.

  • Cheaply: labyrinth → EotM → Map Completion → random exploration/playing.
  • Time efficiently: max cooking → max jeweler (or stop at 300) → artificing to 400 (or stop at 300) → leather to 300 → remaining crafts to 100.

Yeah, it seems that the recipes DO drop (although I’m not sure if they potentially only drop from Personalized ToT Bags; the loot tables for both seem to be different), but they’re extremely rare.

I got mine from a regular ToT.
