Not that I think this game needs something like this. You want a sub, jut buy gems every month. Job done.
Naw, that doesn’t address the issue.
Imo, the best implementation of a sub at this point in the game should be one that encourages players who’re willing to spend real money on conveniences to do so by offering better value for it.
Good topic, I had an idea for something like this for a while but never got around to posting it.
I’d pay $15 a month for permanent access to:
- Makeover kits and transmutation charges
- Personal banking, merchant and TP
I suppose it wouldn’t be fair to have completely unlimited access to these, so I’d propose a system where you can withdraw one of each item daily per account, except transmutation charges. Those should come in stacks of 10.
And of course, to stop people from ‘gaming’ the system by subbing for a month, collecting the goodies and then dropping, you’d have to pay for for at least one full year up front.
It’s funny that this topic has progressed so far down this path, I only recall two players with actual complaints, one sounded like they hadn’t started raids at all while the other was sort of trolling.
The posts that appear to ‘challenge’ this mastery requirement are simply suggesting that masteries aren’t as easy to get as some players claim. Somehow, it got entirely out of hand from there.
How about we switch this into something a little more positive. Some speculations perhaps? I’m imagining a ‘chase’ of sorts. The boss pursues us along a path (maybe islands or platforms) with some kind of DPS or mechanical requirement needing to be met in order to progress further. Failure to do so would result in a wipe. I’ve enjoyed encounters like this.
Oi, what’s your angle mate? Got a bunch of Balthazar skins on the market that you’re hoping some people will get impatient and pick up at your sell listing? Lol.
Well, the way the system works the exchange rate was only ever gonna go up. The increases we’ve been seeing are probably a result of more frequent gem store updates, and the practice of time-limiting cosmetic items.
In the good old days when they made armour sets every few months, cosmetic and novelty items were mostly permanent, rather than limited time offers, so there was less of the ‘omg I must have this NOW’ that causes the massive spikes.
The game has also matured quite a bit, lots of people who’ve achieved their in-game goals now have a decent bit of gold and nothing else to do with it.
Of course, I’d have liked if there was a cap on the exchange rate but it is not in the company’s interests to do so. The higher it goes the more likely players are to spend money on gems, both for gem store purchases and gold conversion.
it should be deldrimor instead whatever metal. 5 deldrimor filligrees or whatever.
If we ever get the ability to craft ascended jewelry, it will almost certainly require the Xunlai electrum ingot, as gold and silver are basically worthless right now. I’m surprised they don’t feature more prominently in scribing, to be honest.

Yeah, I definitely have a much better time pugging T4 than any other kind of content. The ascended gear and agony gates work surprisingly well as a noob filter.
Just sucks that I had to sink so much time and gold into gearing up for content that barely rewards me for my effort at all.
You lot would be surprised how many experienced and skilled players are at endgame and don’t have 100, let alone 166 mastery points. I’ve run T4 fractals with quite a few people in the 10K+ AP range who fit this description.
To be fair though, it really isn’t hard to max gliding, unless you’ve made the mistake of spending all your points on the other mastery lines. For months people have been advising others to make sure they max gliding first, both here and in-game, so I don’t think this will be much of an issue for the raiding community.
That said, earning masteries isn’t a simple matter of ‘playing the game’. Let’s be honest – many of them require completion of a number of unsatisfying and often frivolous achievements that under other circumstances, would be entirely ignored.
You know what I’d buy from the store? A permanent hair styling contract and infinite transmutation charges. But for some reason, a cosmetic-based game doesn’t sell them.
Preach!
This is one of my biggest peeves with this game, constant nickel and diming. It’s the one thing that’s stopped me from ever spending any real money in the gem store. Would love to have some cash only, VIP services offered – completely separate from the gold/gems bit of the economy – Would happily pay the price of a full expansion for each of those contracts you mentioned. .
There’s almost certainly considerable market research that supports this practice and shows it to be more profitable than the alternative. Frustrating as hell for us, but business is business.
Oh my, this thread certainly developed a lot. I’m yet to see a post showing me how this seriously affects us though.
A “free” player with Pact Mastery? Hilarious. Always blame the FTP, right?
It wasn’t my intention to apportion blame, my meaning was a lot closer to ‘how can anyone other than a free player (read: newbie) care about this’, because most players do their open world farming in AB or SW. I very, very rarely see anyone actively just farming mobs Its simply not profitable.
Beyond that, an AFK farmer can’t ‘steal’ kills from an active player, the latter would get way more hits in and still collect loot.
I…don’t understand why people care about this. Please, help me understand. You barely get anything worthwhile even when actively farming the core maps, can’t imagine it’s significantly better if you AFK farm for an entire day. There’s got to be better uses for your electricity and PC processing power than that.
This has got to be a free player issue. I feel like everyone else who owns the game is just…above all this.
Also, how would you word that mindset in an inspirational way to convince others to just have fun?
It’s not hard. You maintain a positive tone throughout by offering encouragement, helpful tips and suggestions and so on. People tend to respond poorly to negativity.
But that’s not how percentages work, is it? If you have a 10% chance of getting something from a chest, opening ten of that chest doesn’t mean you have a 100% chance.
There’s a reason [KING] presented their findings in a different format. Let’s say you’re grinding fractals hoping to gear up for raiding and you complete one T4 daily. You’ll receive four chests – The best one has a 3.4% chance for armour and 1.4% chance for weapon, and the worst will not drop anything at all. This is not the same as a 9.2% chance at getting an ascended box.
Clearly do. Very, very slowly.

There’s always been a school of thought that harsh criticism and shaming motivates people to do improve. Personally, I have always questioned the motives of people who try to do this to others. It’s also entirely out of line in this context.
This seems a bit misleading. The data in its original format more accurately represents their findings.
At T4 you do not have an almost 10% chance of getting an ascended box, you have four individual chances, with the greatest being 3.4% and the least being 0%.
The gist of this post is solid, having a positive attitude and a willingness to try definitely make for a better experience. I also think that it’s good for entertainment to challenge the consumer in some way.
However, it shouldn’t make us upset or uncomfortable. That’s the point where walking away and requesting changes are both valid.
It’s definitely more time for the average player. Swamp was easy, fast and virtually infallible.
Now, while the current system is definitely more fun and interesting, some fractals are a nightmare at T4. I’ve had a few parties fall apart for these dailies.
Of course, I don’t expect to just have ascended chests rain from the sky, but you should never open a T4 chest and think ‘what the kitten is this?’. All of the loot at that tier should be desirable, considering how much you need to invest in gear to even play at that level. Those manky little potions and lonely globs of ecto aren’t cutting it.
Yup, that’s pretty much in line with [KING]‘s research. This is typical though. Most of the major changes boil down to ’give with one hand but take with the other’. More chests might equal more chances, but the sharp decrease in the drop rates nullifies them.
None of ‘em hold any appeal to me. Too freakish (Hylek) or disproportionate (Ogres) or ridiculous (Quaggan). I prefer my fantasy humanoid races heavy on the ’human’, light on the ‘oid’.
Personally, I think ogres had the most potential of all – they are very nearly human in appearance with just enough to set them apart, and have an established culture and way of life. It’s a shame they’ve got such ungainly, apeish physiques. They would have been perfect for another ‘evil’ looking race.
What were your character levels and AP? More likely they quit because of that and decided to toss insults on the way out. In poor taste either way but, what can you do. Kids will be kids.
This isn’t a solution at all if you value your time. You’d be 80g poorer and still have to manually sort through essentially worthless items. Complaints about low level runes and sigils are all centred on one view: they aren’t worth the time it takes to get rid of them, no matter the method used.
The game has outgrown them (and they were never really particularly useful, imo). Time to phase these out or find a way to add value to them.
I could support this, but only for regular mobs in level 80 maps and vets and higher in the rest of Tyria. This might also require a reduction in mob HP, base damage and CC abilities as well – because no matter how well intentioned and fitting these changes might be, if they boil down to ‘longer fights for the same junk drops’ it will not go over well.
Chrono is one of the most versatile professions.
Currently meta for sPvP, ciritical support for raids (requires moderate to high skill to play effectively though) and always welcomed in dungeon and fractal groups.
Population seems more or less the same as ever to me. There’s dungeon, raid and fractal groups going on round the clock. Multiple instances of the more popular map metas. WvW is the most active it’s been in months.
Do trans and gay people in Tyria even face any struggle? There’s been no signs of prejudice and everyone is just chill with it, magic even makes actually transitioning a non issue.
That’s the thing. Tyria is such a PG place that it’s basically inconsequential to the story anyway.
Some games have touched on real life issues (the Witcher comes to mind, with the Scoia’tael/racism subplot) and done a fantastic job with the material, but I think topics like this are far better suited to M-rated titles where the theme can realised in a meaningful way.
There’s been a definite decrease since the previous patch that added ascended chests to the 51+ fractal dailies.
So far [KING]’s data shows just under a 5% chance at ascended armor chests and around 1% for weapon chests from the T4 and T3 dailies. Previously it was around 11-12% for armor, and 5% for weapons.
While this is all anecdotal and user reported data, a lot of people (myself included) averaged one or two chests each week for just under two months, then noticed a decrease in ascended drops after the Mossman exploit fix.
If I had knew this I wouldn’t even bother with this kittenty legendary
Sort of off topic and I understand how the OP might be frustrated but…. Is that the GW2 forum censoring on Kittenty (if it is that’s just awesome considering which legendary it is xD)
I feel like we need ‘The Kittenizer’ as an in-game title.
I just like nice-looking skins. I don’t care who gets them or how, as long as there’s a wide variety to choose from.
A little exclusivity is alright. Some people need this, it’s not unreasonable for the game to offer a few hard to get items. I don’t care for it though, I want everyone to be able to look awesome and unique. The more options the better.
‘Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.’
I got four shards in a day just doing the tier 4 dailies, I suspect the drop rate has been increased a bit.
The fractal changes feel like one step forward, two steps back. I like that the high level fractal daily chests seem to have guaranteed drops. So far I’ve seen new ascended accessories, crafting mats and fractal potions in addition to the old rewards. So at very least, you can look forward to something at the end of it all.
Don’t like having such a small pool of dailies to choose from though. It would suck to have to slog through a fractal you absolutely hate, and get a… potion or something (especially today, with Mai Trin in the mix). Ideally, they’d have been set up a bit more like the PvP dailies. ‘Cliffside or underground Facility’ and so on, as your effort : reward ratio is entirely RNG. That, or have the chests of the mists give us a choice of one thing + one out of several others (as the new HoT meta event end chests do). Cut down on some of that RNG.
I’ve done 5 stage 4 fractal dailies so far and gotten mostly rubbish. Not a big deal, as I;‘m having fun…but I’m still quite curious to see the inevitable post attempting to work out drop rates based on user reported data. Those are always a hoot.
Nah there arent enough prestigious skins. I got over 3,5k skins unlocked and most of them I never touch because they are simply worthless. Plus this set is just a blueish recolors of the regular TA skins. No idea why they should be easier to get than the regular skins all out of a sudden.
Seriously? There’s dozens of BLTC skins, the heritage set, gold fractal weapons, raid weapons, gem store uniques, mystic forge weapons and precursors/legendaries. Most of these are well out of reach of the average player.
As the game matures…it’s good to allow players access to quality and affordable skins. There are more than enough rare, prestigious and expensive skins on the market.
Of course, I’d be furious if I’d invested in any of these skins, but such is the nature of the market.
Didn’t care for her character at all, but godkitten those Scarlet’s Invasion events were some of the most fun I’ve ever played in this game. Massive, map-wide zergs with tons of champ bags and boxes to open afterwards.
I’m for it. Don;t think there’s much of a chance we’d get this feature, but it would be cool.
I know it’s not the most important matter in this game, but still a good way to make the so-called new player experience even more pleasant and — more important — more uniform.
But why?
It would make more sense for each class to feel unique and distinct from the others at the start.
Doesn’t matter much either way, at this stage in the game completely new players are likely to be power levelling and veterans will jump straight to 80 via tomes.
A user should be able to quickly switch to various appearances without having to pay Transmutation Charges.
This.
Waaay back when they announced the wardrobe system, this is what I was expecting. It’s still pretty amazing as is, but this one, feature man. Would have made a world of difference. Outfits barely scratch the surface.
I feel like at very least ascended gear should store every skin you’ve transmuted onto it. I like to switch things up now and again, and hate losing my previous look after experimenting. Or after you transmute an individual skin once, it remains free to use forever.
Oh, and count me among the few who ‘never have enough transmutation charges’.
Barring any drastic occurences, I suspect things will start to peter out in the next three years.
They’re far too too expensive and time consuming to craft. I could get full sets of BLTC skins for two or three characters (including alternate weapons) for about half the cost of most legendary weapons.
Also don’t like how many of them look. Too ridiculous or garish or whatnot. Even the ones that I do like, well….I’d rather not tie myself to a particular skin. I completely re-do my favourite characters every couple months. My wardrobe is full of moderately expensive skins that I’ll likely never use again.
So what about this, what if we did not get rid of all but most of the waypoints. Inside cities there are alternative travel methods like subways or taxis of some sort, that replace the current waypoints in cities. Between cities there are azura portals for instant travel or alternatives like boats or hot air balloons. The important waypoints, like dungeons and world bosses stays but the rest are removed and other intramap travel methods are introduced. For example glider cannons that aim you toward a particular part of the map or dredge subways between outposts.
This could only have worked if it was introduced at launch, or very shortly afterwards. We’re far too accustomed to the convenience. Being able to log-in and get right to the action is a major part of this game’s appeal. Take even a quarter of the waypoints out and you’d really be pushing a lot of people away from the game.
I also don’t see how this would add any value to the game. How could this benefit the player base?
ANet did this for Orr and I don’t think it worked out best for the game. It’s nice that it’s easier to navigate Orr, but it also means that there’s little interest in going there except for event (or tree) farms.
Is there really anything of note in any of the maps besides event and node farming?
Challenging map and enemy design is fine for occasional play, but in the long term I find farmable content more sustainable.
They really gutted this game for me when the dungeon reward was nerfed. That was the one thing I could always do, at any time of day, and feel like I was making at least a little progress. Right now Raids are too ‘hot’ and Fractals too ‘cold’. I miss having something I can just hop into whenever and get lost in the game for an hour or two.
I suppose we might as well just sit tight until the update later this month. Hopefully it adds something worth sticking around for.
You’d probably suck at engi’s difficult rotation like most players and end up pulling off a tiny fraction of the expected dps, so just go necro. It has a good build and nice tricks.
Yup, this. Condi builds are significantly more complex to play than berserker. Timing is everything – you’ve got to get the right skills in as soon as their cooldowns are off in order to maximize your DPS. Engineer’s rotation can be difficult to pull off even under the best circumstances. In a raid setting, you’ll probably struggle to keep your burning stacks up while still offering CC and a bit of support (many groups will expect you to do this, depending on the boss). Was 3/4 of the way through building a Viper set when I realised how much of a hassle this class could be, and will be swapping that armour onto my Druid instead.
Necro offers comparable DPS and support abilities with a much more user friendly skill rotation.
my motivation was doing it 5 times because you get ley armor piece.
If nothing else, the rewards are definitely worthwhile.
I’d take a highly skilled salt-lord over a bad carebear. Never won a match with the power of friendship.
I’d choose a staff. Swords are cheaper and easier to craft.
Almost 7000h into the game, and only 1 precursor drop (warhorn). But since i’m doing a lot of fractals, 10 characters full ascended, with almost 20 ascended armor chests and 10 weapon chests in bank.
rng is rng…maybe you should change game mode (which is sad…)
How are your drops in high level fractals these days? Immediately after the January patch I got loads of ascended armour chests and infused rings. Quite a few golden fractal skins too. Recently, I haven’t gotten much of anything at all. Not seeing any of my team mates ping any good drops either.
Not sure if RNG or stealth nerfs at work.
