It took them 3 years to offer a free trial for Guild Wars 1. If they are already discussing free trails. They are about 2 years faster than the first time.

They have had a free weekend though. It was timed with the lost shores. Unfortunately it was not well executed as there was a massive amount of lag during the event. Including entire server crashes. So much so that they had to give people who were at the event free chests.

Guardians share the lowest health pool with elementalists. You gain survivability with gear. If a guardian can have enough health to survive a single hit from the warden then everyone else is quite capable of such a feat. Only elementalists will have a smidge of difficulty since they share the same health deficit that guardians do while being stuck with light armor.

Warden 3’s tell for his pounce is quite pronounced. He looks like he’s trying to do a standing long jump and his arms flail upwards just like yours would when you try.

As for Insta-downed when you zone in I restate. If you have a terrible load time, then gear yourself so that you can survive a mistake. That way when you zone in and get hit by something right away, you can react, stabilize yourself and contribute to the fight.

I agree that the load screen for that part was a horrible terrible idea. Should have been an instant teleport. However again, insta-downed is your own fault. If you have that issue, then again you need to address it. Either stop fighting the champs at front when the 30 second countdown starts and get to the portal in time so that you aren’t straggling in or gear up health/armor so that you can survive a hit in order to self-stabilize and contribute to the fight instead of being a detriment requiring others to rez you (Which usually just means that they die too when the warden attacks the group of 3 people trying to rez you…)

The major cause for a full platform wipe is trying to rez people.

Why does the GW2 Playerbase ignore orders?

If you’re told to stack on a tag you kittening stack. If you’re told to range a boss you kittening switch to your ranged weapon. If the leader tells you to run in a circle and sing a song you kittening run in a circle and sing a song. If people can’t do these simple things they should go back to the QD zerg where they belong.

If I was in a guild with a commander that told me to range warden 3, I would do what is asked without question. I would however speak to the commander at the end of the event and inform them of the mistake.

A commander in PvE? I don’t give them a second thought. They are a dime a dozen. They are untried, unmeasured and found wanting.

MMO’s with “Raid leaders” and such earn their position from the guild they are with. Their power is gained by the loyalty of those in his/her guild and their reputation. It also ends with those in the guild unless they have earned greater power through reputation.

GW2 goes a different route. These “leaders” do not earn their position. They purchase it. It comes with exactly as much power as you would expect. None. The only way for commanders to obtain actual power is to earn respect. Those that are successful, helpful, friendly, and visible may eventually gain enough power to actually assert influence. This is what happens to WvWvW commanders. They earn respect through their time, effort, and success in the battles.

O.K. I meant that it punishes full zerk builds that can’t dodge or position themselves. People who are constantly getting 1 shotted should fix that issue.

You get 1 shotted even in PTV gear. It punishes you for getting hit, as it should, but if anything it encourages people to zerk.

I can assure you that I do not get 1 shot by warden 3. I take ~50% damage if I should make an error.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fUUQNAR7dlUgiC33RLEfIFRugaBYPwYG741jESRGC-jADBIjERzUEQkFCZ0IwpmDZM7MqVWFRjVZDT9CWDbIq2bDRzmL1CBobMA-e

That’s my build (Sword instead of scepter for warden 3).

With so much active defense, you can facetank warden 3 for the entirety of the platform event. Blind from GS 3, Sword 2, Focus 4. Block from Virtue passive and active and recharge from elite, Retreat, Focus 5, Shelter. Invulnerability from Elite.

So if you are getting 1 shotted by warden 3 you need to adapt or you need to perfect your ability to dodge and position yourself since you have zero leeway.

Please range Warden 3. One platform always wipes because they melee.

Perhaps because this is a terrible command. You should ask your guardians to face tank the guy utilizing active defense.

Truthfully for me it’s the fact that I do not have instant respect for PvE commanders. That’s something that has to be earned by doing things like not issuing the above command.

It really doesn’t. Like you said, don’t stand near the helibombs and there is no way you’re going to die on that warden. You could do it completely naked with a permanently zero endurance bar (assuming you still had enough damage.)

O.K. I meant that it punishes full zerk builds that can’t dodge or position themselves. People who are constantly getting 1 shotted should fix that issue. My guess is a complete and utter lack of vitality to be the issue because my health pool starts at the very bottom of the spectrum and is only up to 20k due to gear. If you are getting 1 shotted then that means you have significantly less health than me since I only take about 50% damage from even the stomp attack if I should screw up a blind timing.

There is no AoE circle. You have to use your eyeballs to see the wasps. They don’t place AE because they just go boom after a bit of time.

And what is the radius of that boom? Going boom after a bit of time in a radius that can potentially instant down you is precisely what red circles are for.

The radius is “Don’t stand near the wasps.” And to remedy the instant down aspect you can put on your wvwvw gear.

Warden 3 punishes full zerk builds.

During one of the sword waves, you would probably have to stand in the black vortex for a bit of time.

The timing of the sword waves and the location of the wardens AE’s cause you to either get hit with the sword, or stand in the deadly black goo.

I have the achievement done, so it’s not bugged (2 days ago), unless it’s a recent issue.

Looting with “F” key is the cause of the skill lock bug.

Try rebinding your AoE Loot key to something other than the action key.

Kumu Honua.2751

Of course there are bad players in every class. I don’t deny it. However the amount of bad rangers far surpasses the bad players in other classes to such a degree that people dislike rangers on principle.

It’s sad but true, and it’s not limited to even just THIS game. Almost every game that has a ranger class suffers this issue.

Also don’t get me wrong. I personally don’t care if a ranger is in my dungeon group because I don’t do “Speed runs” and play for fun. So it isn’t me that is kicking you for playing a bad class. I do however understand the sentiment as I also cringe when I see a ranger based on the generalities and experience with ranger players.

Joining a Full mes/war group and getting surprised that you are kicked when you are an ele? That one is on you. Don’t join a group that doesn’t want you. That’s simple.

Edit: Don’t join a group that doesn’t want you and advertises that much.

Pay to win means that it’s the only option.

You can buy gems with in game gold spending not a single penny. I buy gems every day. Usually 1-10 gems simply by trading the remaining silver after a days play. If I make 1g and 50s, I buy 50s worth of gems. If there’s a big purchase that I want to make, I just put down the gold that I desire.

It makes the sting of buying the gems less when you already have a couple hundred.

But that’s a gameplay choice that you have to make. You aren’t requires to pay to play. You can instead play to pay.

Why can't we master the Wardens?

in The Origins of Madness

Kumu Honua.2751

For the inexperienced ranger it can be easier to just put the pet on passive, until they get to the point where they can bring out the pet as needed during the chain 2 boss fight.

Though its not rangers I have an issue with in that fight, its the people who dont bring the boss around back into his own mines. I then get downed or killed trying to tell them what to do in chat while trying to stay away from everything else. Personally when he does follow me I just run around in a circle and pass between two of his mines and make sure I lead him into one of the two I just passed.

I have seen some groups who can make him not move very much, Im not sure how they are doing that, it seems he drops a mine then immediately hit his own mine again, it make it great for burning him down fast.

You dodgeroll THROUGH the warden. He will drop a mine and immediately turn around to get the guy that it’s following and hit the mine it just placed.

Haha i maybe do, just 1 more question before i make one. Are Guardians good at roaming in WvW and 1v1 situations? and what roles can u play with it? Like Condi or zerker, dont say support then i might change my mind hate that word lol

Guardians CAN be decent roamers. They are not the best at it. The guardian class is geared towards group support. You can however go with a meditation build and be pretty bursty.

Guardians do not do Condi. They have one condition only. Burning. That’s it.

Guardians do tend towards the support side, but frontline support. More akin to the role that paladins play in other MMO’s if you are experienced.

I for example am a support guardian in the fact that I spec for shouts that remove conditions on my allies and provide buffs, yet I am also geared for damage dealing and can dish it out. I am usually the first one to crash headlong into a zerg to cut through and smash faces.

I would be okay with it if the general consensus was that guardians suck. Generalities exist for a reason. They aren’t pulled out of thin air. They have a modicum of truth behind them.

Rangers as a class have this modicum of truth because of the class and game mechanics providing a breeding ground for bad gameplay basics.

Please stop saying “I can do it!” or “I saw it happen once” and so on.

The point is that rangers in general are plagued by bad players. Players that learned bad habits due to the class mechanics and game mechanics teaching them things like use your pet to tank and stand in one spot and shoot from max range and if the enemy looks at you sideways run around like a chicken with your head cut off.

So yeah, you might be the best ranger in the world. You might have seen a platform of 5 rangers down the warden, but that’s the exceptions.

Same thing with guardians and tanking warden 3. It’s quite possible to do. I do it when I face that warden. But others just plain can’t do it because they never learned how to utilize active defense properly.

Kumu Honua.2751

The trouble isn’t on home servers. They are generally nice. It’s overflows where we are playing with people we really don’t give a rats kitten about. There is where the hatred at ineptitude shows itself. Especially from people who are on home servers that routinely defeat the marionette.

One crappy internet hiccup and BAM you are stuck with people you don’t know, nor care about and see nothing but failure around you.

Like this morning I was dumped into an overflow where there was a warrior a couple platforms over that had warden 1’s agro and was spinning around like a top.

People like that warrior ruin it for the rest simply because they can’t be kitten d to take 2 seconds to read the text under the target, or read a guide, or listen to people shouting at him to STOP MOVING!

So everyone in the overflow yell at him for being a kitten kitten kitten and tell him to uninstall. Why? Because they will never see them again and they don’t care.

Overflows are the issue here. Anet is to blame.

My statement about “first” wasn’t bragging. It is a function of being able to dps much faster because the ranged people aren’t missing with random shots as the boss is running around chasing someone and all the melee are able to damage the kitten. Especially thieves getting a chance to backstab the beast and such.

I just take umbrage with the statement that ranged is the best way to deal with this guy. It most certainly is not. It’s just a way that people have latched on to.

@aspirine – The platforms fill up “Poker Deal Style” each person gets plopped on a platform in the order that they zone in. So if your group is the only one at the portal and you all zone in at once, you will each be on a separate platform.

I completely disagree with Warden 3.

You should fill that lane with guardians. They can face tank the guy for the entire fight if they don’t suck. Leap of faith blind, retreat aegis, leap of faith blind, virtue of courage aegis, leap of faith blind, switch to sword/focus flashing blade blind, shield of wrath block, switch back to GS leap of faith blind, and your retreat should be back up by now. Throw in Shelter and Renewed focus for even more tanking ability.

You can tank the entire fight. I do every time. My platform is always first to kill it. This type of thing allows the warriors to melee it from behind and keeps the squishy rangers and such from having to spend most of their time running like freaking chickens with their heads cut off.

The problem is that the ranger game mechanics reward terrible play and people pick up bad habits that translate into doing bad things in events like this.

Ranger as a class learn very early on that they want their pet to tank. It ends up being where a ranger will send the pet, and plink away while standing in one spot till enemy is dead and if that enemy looks at them sideways they run around like a chicken with their head cut off at maximum range till pet gets agro.

They almost never take damage. So they are ingrained in those tactics.

The issue is that those tactics are TERRIBLE at that warden.

It’s not rangers themselves. It’s terrible rangers. Or at least players who have learned bad habits.

That is what is wrong with rangers. The class mechanics teach bad habits.
