Best golem class?

in WvW

Posted by: Liewec.2896

Liewec.2896

ok, thanks for the reply!
i haven’t played WvW in years, and back then traits like endurance regeneration and runes like traveller all worked to give big boosts over different classes piloting a golem.

thanks for letting me know that it is all pretty much the same now
golemancer runes engineer it is!

edit: thanks for the hint dawdler, that makes me even more want to go engi, because now when i’m not piloting my own golem i will be able to help other golems!

Best golem class?

in WvW

Posted by: Liewec.2896

Liewec.2896

hey folks, sorry if this has been asked before,
i tried using the awful search function (with 0 results)

i’m looking to get into WvW with a quirky “Golemancer” character,
i plan on mostly playing as an Omega Golem pilot, i figure it could be fun.

so simple question, what is the best setup?

naturally i immediately think engineer with golemancer runes, for extra golemancer flavour,
but i’m not sure if runes work in golem form (iirc traveller runes used to be the way to go because they gave the golem a speed boost.)

also do traits work? if so, something like daredevil could be the ultimate for travelling,

TLDR
any advice on the optimal golem pilot class/trait/runes would be awesome

i play turret engi in unranked, they are very gimmicky, and nowhere near as good as they used to be,
but they are still surprisingly good for holding a point, place them where they won’t get cleaved down and they do pretty decent damage combined with buffs for allies and some added CC.

Outfits vs Armor sets

Liewec.2896

While people come on the forums to bash outfits, they ignore all the copy cat armors and full set wearers when they say how unoriginal the outfits are and how wearers of outfits look like each other.

there is no cure for a lack of imagination,
if people want to wear a whole set then that is an option,
however, atleast with those really awesome sets people who do have imagination can mix them with other really awesome armour sets and make a look that feels totally their own.

with outfits there is simply no option, you’re a clone,
if you have imagination you can colour yourself from a blue clone into a red clone.
you’re doomed to look like those folks you don’t like who unimaginatively wear a whole set, no matter how badly you want to flourish your creativity.

Outfits vs Armor sets

Liewec.2896

Don’t forget, the playerbase asked (for a long time) that Armor Sets be removed from the Gem Store. ArenaNet acquiesced.

actually if i remember correctly we all asked for some in-game acquirable armours, because back then the only armours getting added were all gemstore armours.

Anet took the kitten literal approach and utterly stopped making gemstore armour
since then the number of armour sets getting added took a massive dive.

21 gemstore sets of armour were released were before outfits were added.
(clearly debunking the old “it takes 9 months to make an armour set!” nonsense.)

since the introduction of outfits in 2014, Anet have churned out around 35 of them…

promising to sell outfits, and make armour only available as ingame rewards.
that decision was the death of character customisation.

i will say one thing, whoever designed the Bladed armour set,
than man or lady needs a raise! fantastic set
more like that pls anet! or more ANYTHING! if its armour, i’m happy!

Anything being done about Broken DH trapper?

i play both a druid trapper and a DH trapper (in unranked, i don’t feel either are wanted in ranked) and i have to say the ranger is sooo much deadlier than the DH,

i’ve actually had someone whisper me after a match to ask what build i was using to make their health melt from 100 to 0 in moments.

thats not to say DK traps are weak, if you spec full damage you can oneshot people without doing anything, but other than the traps the DH can’t really do much.
the ranger is still a druid (and we all know the amount of QQ surrounding druids :P)

I think anet once said they want outifts to be gemstore items and armor sets to be acquired in game.

yep, and that was when armours mostly stopped getting made :P
“we’ll sell you these, and give you this other thing for free!”
it was inevitable that they weren’t going to make many armours from that point on.

its a F2P game, on one hand they have things they say they will sell,
on the other they have things they say they will give you for free…
which do they make…

personally i think they need to go back on that “outfits gemstore, armours in-game” nonsense, i’ll throw money at my screen if it lets me get more armours!

If people quit buying outfits and only bought armor, we’d have more armor and less outfits. I have bought exactly one outfit, and I regretted it.

this^
if we want them to listen to us and stop churning out cashgrab one-piece sets,
and start focusing on making what we actually want then we need to talk in a language that they understand, money.
clearly some people are buying up all of the outfits, and aslong as those unimaginative folks are happy buying every clone suit Anet release we won’t get any effort put in to making armours instead.

I can understand just by looking at most outfits that the chest and leggings parts cannot be split, they are a full skin and it wouldn’t make sense to use parts from different armor/outfit skins on chests and leggings.

that is the same with quite a lot of ingame armour,
they envision the player using both the chest and legs to make it appear seamless,
but you CAN make it work with other armours.

here is a small example of a chest/leg set that is split at an odd spot,
and when used seperately it can look horrible if used badly,
but can be mixed with other armours to make it work.

we are also part of the reason armor takes so long to be released. Have you seen how many complaint threads pop up about clipping? You’d think the game was somehow released with zero clipping or bugs.

people shouldn’t complain about clipping, things clip, thats just a fact of MMOs
you want that 12 ft long kitten sword? its going to clip.
clipping is a non-issue and people shouldn’t complain about it.

thaere is a similar excuse i hear a lot for why outfits can’t be converted in to armours, people say “oh its because they’d need to be cut at odd points”.
which is a bad excuse because there are plenty of ingame armours which already does that, yet we still mix and match them to make them work

the vast majority of armour sets are still the ones from release, they have added very little since.

To be more accurate, the game was released with 34 armor sets and they added 14 more sets in the 4 years since release..

exactly, and half(?) of those were added within the first year.
ever since one-piece cashgrabs AHEM “outfits” were added,
armours have been extremely scarce,
even the $60 expansion had a measly 3 sets per weight.

as we can see from how many gemstore armours were released before outfits were added, it does NOT take 9 months to make a single armour.
so i don’t buy the excuses.
does it take more work? sure i’d imagine, but much more? no.

Liewec.2896

GW2 has immense variety, especially for a game that is “only” 4 years old, I can’t see how this is even an issue at all.

is this your first MMO?
the vast majority of armour sets are still the ones from release, they have added very little since.

games like WoW released with multitudes more armour than GW2 has right now, and each expansion adds dozens more per weight class.

whatever the look you want in WoW you’ll have plenty to choose from, it isn’t just
“i fancy making my thief look sexeh! time to use cultural T3 chest…” (as in GW2)

for an MMO this game is severely lacking in armours, and allowing players to customise their look so they feel unique is quite possibly the most important part of an MMO.

Ancient Seeds is overpowered.

i use ancient seeds with a fully condi orientated trapper and have to say that it does indeed give you a massive advantage, it triggers from the knockdown on spiketrap,
so not only does it apply decent stacks of bleed, but it keeps the enemy stuck inside your traps while they pile up monstrous stacks of poison, bleed and burning

that being said, please don’t nerf it!

agree completely, character customization is one of the most important aspects in an MMO, no excuses are acceptable.

well done to Tenrai for illuminating the nonsense of this “it takes so long to make armours!” argument, before outfits we had plenty of armours released,
since outfits however the number has dropped dramatically, it is clear that they are putting far more effort into monotonous cash-grab outfits than armour sets.

just refuse to buy outfits.
“oh its just easier to churn out outfits.” is not an acceptable answer imho.
this is an MMO, character customisation is one of the most important aspects.
a large portion of the playerbase is done seeing one-piece cashgrabs coming out every few weeks while the pool of new armour choices remains derelict and barren.

so yeah, just boycot outfits.
or if on the rare occasion, one comes out that you actually want, convert gold.
but above all else, make sure they don’t make money from outfits.

That’s why they are holding off full armor sets to paid expansions.

They can’t change the math.

we can’t change the math either, 3…that is how many armour sets you got for $60 per weight class from HoT.

saying “oh they’ll release them with the expansions” only works when they do what other MMOs do and release a plethora of them, not THREE.

Elite skills seem underwhelming.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Liewec.2896

Liewec.2896

in that genre elite skills tend to be game changers or really noticable spikes in your combos.

However, when I look at the elite skills of ranger, ele, engineer, warrior or guardian their elite skills are anything but game changing.

on ranger i love the AoE roots, its really strong and lasts a really long time if they don’t destroy it.

ele is notorious for lacking a useful elite so i’ll grant you that, (though i’ve accomplished some awesome things with Tornado)

engi dropping supply crate can be a huge game changer, an AoE stun couples with healing, rooting, a water field and bonus damage.
Elixir X also brings me to the next one, warrior’s rampage.

RAMPAGE, is a huge game changer, unless you polymorph someone with rampage they will wreak havoc, it doesn’t last very long, but while it is active they are a force to be reckoned with.
i prefer headbutt however, the damage is “ok” the stun is handy but the ability to gain a full bar of adrenaline on a short cooldown is amazing!
it means that if you choose, you can initiate every fight with a stun and a full bar of adrenaline.

as to Guard, Renewed Focus is handy as an invulnerability period, but the ability to refresh every Virtue is a cornerstone of some builds,
personally i always use the signet for the passive healing and if things get tough you can heal your entire team to full HP, not too underwhelming if you ask me!

tl;dr i disagree that elites are underwhelming, many are certainly a game changer.

we’ve heard that when dragons die their magic spread between the remaining dragons,
so currently Primordus, Jormag, Kralkatorrik and S________(sea dragon) all have a portion of Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s magic.

i hypothesis that when we have defeated all but the last dragon it will be super powerful after absorbing the magic from all of the rest, so powerful that it will use it’s reanimation magic to reanimate the fallen carcasses of the other dragons,
and the final battle will see us fighting the one super-dragon and the other 5 dragons reanimated corpses!

Been done, sort of. In GW’s Nightfall, you battle the big baddies from the previous two games, as they have become servants of Abaddon.

the whole thing the way it is now reminds me a lot of that closer to the stars mission,
you start with 4 bosses, and each time you kill one a portion of their power is spread to the others, by the time you fight the last one you’re fighting a much harder fight than the first.

I’m not seeing the point of making gem store Armor Skins class exclusive. Why can’t they be made available to all classes? When you have outfits that can be used by any class, why is the same not true of skins? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

Seems like they would sell a lot more skins if they eliminated the class restrictions.

the general excuses why armour skins can’t be made available to all classes
(and by extension why outfits can’t also be sold as armour skins for all classes)
are:

clipping, different cut off points, visual weight classes, time and effort.
all of these have been repeatedly debunked however,
so my only conclusion is that Anet don’t like money.
