I’d rather have an pseudo invincibility considering I’m going to be full glass. No amount lifeforce is ever enough in ranked pvp as a necro.

Try using focus in ranked. I bet you manage to pull of 4 maybe 3 or 4 times per match and I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t land a single focus 5.

Depending on if they do any changes to weapons you can replace horn with focus for boon removal, more chill and the spike combo combining dagger #3 , focus #4 and RS#5. rip.

Unless they drastically reduce the cast times on focus it’s still poop for pvp as far as I’m concerned.

It’s actually kind of funny. If you are being targeted for kill shot, stealth, teleport in back of the warrior and run away, the warrior will turn around to shoot you!
This is where the game breaks down completely. Ranger LB obliterates mesmers and d/p thieves due to this. Anything except LOS will get you killed because so much damage comes from that 1 channeled skill. It’s completely nonsensical that a channel would follow you even AFTER teleporting 900-1200 range. On the other side some skills don’t work properly against stealth, shatters for instance. The clones will stop running and pop if someone stealths but pets don’t seem to suffer this issue(they continue with the attack even at short distances). This is one of the reasons rangers aren’t nullified by thieves while mesmers are hard-countered.
Or you can just do what every other professions do already: Dodge it.

No no no. If you open the ranger or 1v1 then fine, it’s not the same. But rangers join teamfights and just melt d/p thieves unless they can LOS. I’ve seen rangers come to a teamfight, knockback, followed by rapid fire(double sigil proc) and 1 auto to take out 15k health. The wolf AOE fearing you into a wall doesn’t help, and rangers opening fights like this isn’t rare either. Even d/d full burst thieves can’t put out so much damage without risk of getting drawn close or losing most utility.
Sounds like that’s working as intended. 1 full glass player killed another full glass player.
A glass longbow ranger is there to +1 fights and focus the squishy targets. This is also a thief’s job but thieves also get the best mobility in the game so they are better for decapping .

Disagree. Also isn’t this a terrormancer thread? Pretty sure you can still be triple ranged as condi. No one’s forcing you to use a gs. But even if you did you could still have one ranged weapon. And sk has a leap. As well as a decent amount of condi reduction.
Yet everytime I do ag whatever team I’m on always wants me to play terrormancer instead…. no matter how many times I’ve tried explaining everyone and their grandmother is running condi clear.
Yeah I’m not thinking for wvw, unless you were roaming.
More for spvp and we would still absolutely be able to use zerker and still have crazy condi immunity as well as a kitten load of damage reduction
Yeah I’m actually thinking celestial, I just made the build on dulfy, looks like you have a choice between minion and use death nova, or unholy sanctuary And probably spectral skills
So with all the new dmg reduction and the possibility of pseudo condition immunity… can you potentially have both?

I think you will find that the extra 400 toughness does almost nothing. Its your imagination. Plus necro doesnt have enough channel abilities to get good use out of it. Putrid defence is a way better trait. Provides more damage reduction and works a lot better.
Woah now, there are some people who would argue until they turned blue their toughness is what makes them last that whole 1 100th of a second longer……
Finishing off a downed player should not be effortless. If I’m ever downed, I want my foes to work for their kill. If people have the option to sink or swim, most people will choose to swim. Don’t assume that all downed players must automatically die; some players build their characters and sacrifice lots of beneficial traits and stats just to function well while downed.
If you recognize that the downed player is a high damage berserker player, then you should understand that his health pool and defense are extremely small, and it may be better to just cleave them down instead of stomping, or use a tactical approach to finishing off the downed player (strafe his projectiles, LoS behind terrain and chip him down, put a pet on him, safe stomp, etc).

Zerker can kill downed faster than most people can stomp opponents. While condition builds can just apply conditions on the downed and wait him out. Celestial and bunker builds have the hardest time downing opponents.

I’ll agree to support getting rid of chill of death since that’s what every complaint seems to be about these days if we do something about getting insta killed from stealth, unkillable condition clearing warriors, infinite block mediguards, 2100 range pew pew rangers, infinite dodge theives, celestial rifle engis, moa, celestial elementalists, fresh air eles.
Unless of course necro is just meant to be the one without that little something special because right now chill of death is pretty much all we got.
Here’s an idea, when you see yourself getting to 50% health agaisnt a necro apply weakness to the kittening necro. Or use a block or whatever it’s not kittening random so I wish people would stop trying to say it’s kittening random when theives are allowed to pop out of kittening nowhere hit for 11k and then teleport away to decap a point. But yeah the thing with no active defense, no scaling defense is totally broken.
As roe said it’s literally all we have right now. So stop complaining.

I’m trying to figure out a reaper condition based build that takes advantage of the new damaging chill. The problem seems to be sources of chill. Currently condition necros get chill from staff 3, DS 2, and Chill of death trait. Unfortunately a reaper build will lose out on Chill of death and DS2 chill. However we do gain the new RS chill.
So my question is, what is the best way to maximize condition damage with a reaper build? The best possibility is to take chilling darkness and use our blind field and dagger 4 to help generate chill. This of course takes the place of corruption CD reduction and removes a spot for corrosive poison cloud on our utilities, meaning no group support via weakness. Is the blind field more useful than weakness? Doesn’t seem like it since it has less than half the uptime of the weakness.
There is also the possibility of Sigil of Ice to give us ~40% chill uptime. Does this stack with sigil of earth or do they share a CD? Depending on damage it may be better DPS to have Ice over Earth.
With lingering curses, and 20% chill duration, sigil of ice and RS 5 can maintain 100% chill uptime in PvE I believe. Strategic use of epidemic should allow AoE uptime of >100% as well.
Why would a reaper build lose Chill of death?

How did weapon swapping have anything to do with it?Players were able to weap swap/stow weapons to cancel the skill.
Since the damage on the skill was front-loaded they could rapid fire Axe 1 for a pretty op dps increase.
Swapping has nothing to do with it just stowing. Swapping wouldn’t work. I knew about the dps increase as I’ve stated in multiple posts. Swapping has nothing to do with it.
Also I’m pretty sure this isn’t a bandaid. They didn’t fix mesmer gs yet because it’s a different skill that channels.
This axe exploit was probably the reason axe never got any love, so they nerfed the exploit so they can buff axe when hot comes around. Mark my words.

I’m sure this has been said before but this nerf was necessary actually surprised no one was abusing this. If done properly I was autoattack ing with axe faster than any weapon I’ve seen in game while stacking vuln. I was getting 25 vuln stacks solo, and it was extremely hard to do it manually so I can only imagine anyone that was doing this probably had a macro to do it. I’m guessing they have known about this for a while and that’s probably why axe was never getting a buff.
In short I think they nerfed it to buff it.
Thats why i play ranger in pvp
I also love how players say haha noob ranger go play a meta build 1 minute later they are dead on the ground and say omfg your build is no skill.Still doesn’t change the fact its a no skill build LOL.

Life Blast requires DS, has much longer cast time and moves slowly, deals less damage overall, much shorter range.

Life blasts hit for about 4.5k “regardless the range”, pierces, with almost 100%crit rate.
Long range shot maximum damage at 1000+ range is like 3.3k (1500 if no crit), 2.5K crit at 500- range, with around 50% crit rate only.
Lich Form doubles that damage, dealing 8k damage per crit, firing at a faster rate than LB auto. Rapid fire hit like 8~9k on “zerker medium or light classes”, and only when all the channel lands. (only kitten will take full damage from RF, it’s a 2.5 seconds channel skills, if your reaction is this slow, you need to go see a doctor.) By the time Rapid Fire finishes, Lich Form already deals 17k damage, while most people dodged half of the damage of RF, making it hit like 4~5k only.
Your life blast numbers are very exaggerated. very rarely does lb hit for 4.5

The area with the sand is already set up with a confined area + a gate, and on the opposite side of the piazza is an area that could be turned into the exact same thing.

Duels end with player a because player b is done dueling, other player a is salty decides to spam challenge player b player b is now unable to toggle off accepting duels due to challenge spam. Could fix with hot key for toggling though. Yeah other games have the same system implemented pretty easily… DCUO has a system like that.

I actually love my fairy wand scepter.
I was using it, was pretty easy to know when it was gonna proc so it didn’t disrupt heals, kinda sad it’s gone, at least those engis will stop using it.
I was definitely using it. Nothing funnier than fighting a boon spammer losing mist form dsing cod air fire procs profit.
There is a bug with the attack hiding your weapon, which was unintended and will be fixed.

That was fixed quite a while ago, you can still stow the weapon if you feel like it but it doesn’t give you the extra healing anymore and it definitely doesn’t add damage.
Should fix mesmers being able to do it to proc air fire more often.
I was referring to the visual bug of the weapon disappearing.
My apologies I look at everything from a more practical standpoint, don’t care too much about aesthetics.

I can kinda take blame for this one, it was most likely BoC that caused it, as Blackmoa has been quite vocal about the (truly) massive increase in DPS (100% increase) that proper animation canceling could cause on the old axe AA.
Well maybe it was necessary. I was able to do it manually but I couldn’t do it very well in the middle of a fight, but anyone could have made a macro to do it. I thought lightning whip was ok because you didn’t need a macro for it at all, with axe the only way to do it effectively in a fight would be a macro. I would have a hard time believing anyone could “really” do it manually as I tried for a long time and got pretty good at it but still not as good as I could just sMackin a golem with it.
I’m not able to play right now can anyone tell me if they nerfed mesmer gs autoattack stow as well or just us?

Equip air fire sigils, don’t engage with 0 lifeforce all you really need to do is stay on point. watch for two things. Cleansing fire. And water attunement. As long as you can survive long enough to get him to pop cleansing fire and a water attunement as SOON as you see him swap to water immobilize him burst him and wait for cod, air fire to insta kill him. If he does manage to down you first if he doesn’t have mist form or armor of earth or arcane Sheild off cooldown he might get insta killed if you had him at close to half life.
Probably nerfed it, I was able to manually hit 25 vuln stacks with it. By canceling. Yes it’s very very hard. Yes I think it would be next to impossible to do ALL the time on the middle of a fight. Yes a macro could be made to do it. No I’m not making a video to prove it.
I said I wanted an airplane wing. This will do.
I think the ability for all the siphons combined with all the ridiculous damage modifiers (reductions and increases) is going to make us a mediguard on every type of steroid all at once.
Nothing I love more than critting on the third hit of necro dagger attack while simultaneously proccing air, fire, chill of death with close to death.

So I’ll either have to sacrifice curse and lose WH (which is probably a really bad Idea), Death magic with extra armor in DS and condi removal (Not really happy to lose that), Blood magic who grant me extra damage from siphon and a bit of survivability outa DS (Not really happy either) or Soul reaping with last gasp which is a real life saver (Well… this line shall not be sacrificed).
So, most likely except if this elite traitline have better option, it will be the sacrified traitline. All depend of what ther will be in it.

It’s a given I play this build at the frontline in WvW where it’s not useless. But, if you like to go full damage frontline in WvW i’m sure you are some kind of god or whatever.
Beside, I think most of necromancer’s GM traits are indeed useless in most of the game area. Being able to use minor trait that give way more than taking 1 condition from 1 ally every 3 second IF I’m in DS is way more interesting don’t you think.
My days of wvw are over, but I was able to play a frontline wells necro zerk/soldiers mix with melandru runes. No need to trait for condi clear since your heavies and eles should take care of that for you.
Alot of people don’t really understand the true power of close to death, and alot of people seem to think toughness matters. It’s pretty much useless in a zerg fight.

I rock Necro Tank build in SPvP all the time, and it rocks. Necro Tank and War Tank my two fav classes in SPvP. dont know about PvE, dont play dungeons…
I don’t pve either. Rock is a good word to use for it. Because it just sits there and does nothing while getting killed. Tank warrior works, hambow even shoutbow. Necro Tank does not. Your defense doesn’t scale and you hit like a flacid….. well you get the idea.
He didn’t even say anything about wells…. no one is underating wells but traiting in bm for it is kittening stupid.
well as a Tank in PvP my job isnt all about killing. its about holding points of interest as long as possible to prevent enemies from taking those points. On my Necro I have stood alive while being doubled against up to 3v1,,,, and managed to buy enough time for my team to capture the other points before giving me a hand…
Necro Tanks rock… its fun to me.
I’m not debating what your job is. Necro tank can’t stay on point. = useless.
I’ll rephrase it. Tank necro is useless in any organized pvp, moderate to high tier. I’m sure it’s extremely effective in low tier hotjoin pvp.
