Excessive Tome/scroll of knowledge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

I have two stacks of tomes of knowledge from pvp, and that’s after leveling two characters from 0 to 80. I have no plans to roll another character until the trait system changes.
Can these please be made tradeable or vendable to merchants at least? It’s such a waste them just sitting there uselessly. I have more than enough skillpoints and levels on my 80s from just playing the game. Every time I get a tome from pvp or black lion chest it’s a total waste.

If you want to convert Tomes to gold, you might try keyfarming.

That’s not what we’re discussing here, friend. The chest you get for Mad King Says is different to a chest you get at the end of Clocktower jumping puzzle. Now that you mention it, though, it’s a bit funny that you get a nice skin for doing something so simple, and you get a choice of useless items for finishing a challenging jumping puzzle.

a nice skin?
i have seen cheap crap being nicer than that crap, also, the thread title states mad king chest……nothing clock tower mentioned in the entire title…

It’s like a game of tag, where eventually everyone becomes “it.” The idea is to have fun lasting as long as possible. I don’t think it’s ever really expected that villagers should win.

Why the hell are so many people against having more options when it comes to modifying the ui?

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Please add end game raiding (10-20 mans)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

I am against raids because they will either be “easy” or “hard.” If they are “easy”, people will wonder what the whole point was. If they are “hard”, then everyone will expect truly phenomenal rewards in order for the raid to be “worth it.” That’s how raids work in most other games – all the best rewards are locked behind raid content. GW2 has pretty much never done this: you’ll probably get a single set of unique weapon skins, and a gold reward proportionate to difficulty, as in dungeons, but that doesn’t increase inflation too much. Overall, most people won’t be too excited.

If the rewards don’t work in GW2 like they do in other games, most of the raiders (who are constantly clamoring for this content), won’t even like it once it’s implemented. And those who aren’t in favour of raids won’t do them very much anyway. All in all, they’re probably a waste of dev time, since no one will be satisfied. Instead creating a fundamentally new game mode, spend the time making a dozen new dungeons instead.

If you’ve “quit” (i.e. no intention of returning), then guess what? Your opinions on the game direction are no longer relevant.

Isn’t the implication usually “I quit, but I hope some day the game changes enough to make me want to come back”?

In which case, the opinions are still relevant.

Not really

Why not? After all, people that really don’t intend to return, no matter what, are generally not posting. Those that still frequent forums, are people that still can be possibly brought back.

Or, more usually, trolls.

A tag would at least let us know whether someone who says they stopped playing has actually stopped playing. It’s funny to think a percentage of people simply lie about that.

Only if it told you average game time per week or something of that sort. With the way the LS is now working, if you have any interest in the game (which presumably critics have or they wouldn’t bother even posting any more) you should at least be logging in for every LS patch.

So people could honestly say they haven’t played the game for six months, but still have “Last logged in, 2 weeks ago” tagged under their forum name.

As far as Mark admitting they considered it, I see no reason to get on ArenaNet’s case. When you are developing/designing anything, you consider a lot of options. Even ideas that seem ridiculous at first are worth weighing to make sure they don’t have something useful hidden in them.

They considered it, found the negatives outweigh the positives, and decided against. It’s actions that matter, not whether someone thought about doing something.

Hell, I’ve been logging in daily – but that’s in an attempt to collect some form of contact info from my friends/guildies so that when DAI goes live we can play together. Can’t check in-game mail without logging in.

A last-logged-in would show that I’m a daily player. Something that gave average time per week would show about 1h, total.

What I wonder about more, is how either statistic validates (or not) my opinion and contribution to things?

Those particular statistics don’t, imo. They’re too amibguous. A statistic showing you last logged in 6 months ago, or a year ago, might mean something though.

It’s not a PvE Title just because you say it’s a PvE Title.

Check where that title falls in the achievements. This has always been under ‘Hero’ which is firmly ensconced under ‘pve’ achievements. Not competitive. This would generally imply that it is indeed a “pve” title.

Hero is not a specifically PvE title area. It is under “General”. Meaning general – not necessarily specific. Hero includes things like Emergency Response Hero (participate in events – can be done in WvW), Skillful (earn skill points – can be done in WvW, or with PvP title tracks), Lifetime Survivor (get 500k xp without dying – can be done in WvW), and Birthdays (doesn’t even matter how you play. Or if you play at all).

Like it or not, Been There Done That is not a pve achievement.

By that standard there are no ‘pve’ achievements, just because they ‘can’ be done elsewhere. Those wvwers, real big on events after all. Not.

“Hero is an achievement category for achievements earned advancing in your personal story, completing quests, learning skills, and gaining experience without dying.”

It really doesn’t get any more basic pve than that. Honestly. Take a look at the things contained under it. Personal story steps. Dungeons. Renown hearts… Not pvp things.
Yes, WvW contains events, but that is the ‘e’ aspect of the pvpve mode, and they still only pertain to the pvp function of the mode. If they disappeared tomorrow, the vast majority would likely neither notice, nor care.

Ignoring all the hyperbole…

I never said it didn’t include PvE. I said it was General. “With the potential to include multiple areas of the game.”

And I didn’t say that you didn’t. I stated that by the standard you set forth, there was then no such thing as a “pve” achievement. Which is blatantly untrue.

My “standard” where if an achievement can be done in multiple areas of the game, it’s not specific to only one of them? In no way does that preclude pve-specific achievements. Please try and make some sense.

Scenario: Will I get into trouble?

Olvendred.3027

Its very heartening to hear all your comments (so far).

In reality, my brother was the victim and I really have no idea why he was kicked except it was sudden and without warning (the guy admitted as much).

I have no idea if its really because they have a guildie who has Nomads/Magi but when I thought about it, it was the only reason I could think of.

Great job souring an innocent players experience in the game while ignoring the fact that your guildie can easily switch his armor.

I fully agree with you and my thoughts exactly. My brother just joined the game 3 months ago but having played and done AC all paths everyday (literally Mon to Sun), has become very proficient at it. We’re all grown up so no crying about it but this is one of my major concern as well.

Yes. Reportable. And since there’s a pattern of you doing it, a bannable offence.

The pug will not get into trouble for abusing the report tool.

A report was made and we do not believe that we will get into any trouble either.

I agree that a pattern needed to be established so even if nothing happens this time, once there is a history, A-net would be more likely to take action.

The only way you could cover yourself in this situation is if you posted straight up in your LFG: “Looking for 5th to stack kill Spider Queen. Please leave afterwards or you will be kicked.”

And if somebody still joined your group after that, well, they deserve what they get for not reading properly.

EDIT: Also, if your guildie is too weak/unskilled to stack kill the Queen, why not just fight her in the open? It takes, what, an extra 20 – 30 seconds to kill her that way? Unless you’re trying to break a speed clear record, I highly doubt that short an amount of time matters to you and your friends.

Agree with you on pre-stated conditions in LFG. The LFG was “P1 80s only”.

As for killing the SQ, our preference is to fight her in the open. As a matter of fact, we have not found anyone (PUGs or guilds) wanting to stack for perhaps a month already. But yet, my brother was able to help kill it with Time Warp.

I apologize for presenting the scenario in this way but I felt from the victim’s perspective will make me look whiney… And, to increase awareness of establishing a pattern to combat such behavior.

So far, 8 replies and mostly that it is bannable. Good.

I really have no idea why you did this in this way… but sure, whatever. I’d strongly advise you to link to this post in your OP, if you don’t want to end up on a large number of block lists.

As others have already said, this would be a disaster for low population periods in the lower tiers where there might be only a couple of people on who can’t possibly scout everything. Elsewhere, I’ve recommended:

  • Defender Outnumbered = No Delay Before White Swords
  • Attacker Outnumbered = No White Swords.
  • No Outnumbered Buffs = White Swords with existing delay

This would allow ninja attacks against superior forces that have the numbers to scout but also help outnumbered servers defend their stuff from much larger forces.

The Outnumbered buff only applies to population on that map. The other three maps might be fully queued, for all the game knows. Certainly, it says nothing about overall server WvW population at any point in time.

Also, if you tie any substantive benefits to the Outnumbered buff, it just encourages elitist guild groups trying to harass all other players off the map, so they can get the benefits for themselves.

I disagree with any change to the white swords mechanic. Leave it as it is.

Are you implying there was a point where this was different?

They were originally account bound. Or possibly even soul bound. In any case, they weren’t tradable, so you personally had to get all the components and make it yourself.

This has become a serious stumbling block for several people. I don’t understand why Anet introduced so many changes to accomodate new players and yet introduce so many nuances that are downright confusing until you figure it out. This is just one, but you would think they could add a phrase like “Selectable stats on binding” or something.

I think that, by the time you’re going for a legendary, you should be sufficiently aware of where to find information if you don’t know something. Or know people you can ask.

Well, some have. But those are definitely not the worst aspects of the NPE.

Neither of us got to the point to earn trait points or skill points when we quit the first time. By the time I started playing again without my fiance, the trait revamp had already happened so it didn’t affect either one of us in the slightest luckily. I have heard that the trait system kinda put a lot of veterans in a weird position, and I would like to hear more about that.

If your character was created before the new trait system, it is “grandfathered in.” Meaning you don’t have to go around and individually unlock the traits by completing specific events or doing zones. All the original traits are unlocked on your character, available to be used as soon as you get to a high enough level to use them.

Giving more XP for map completion, when you consider every vista, POI and heart gives you XP already would make map completion over-rewarding.

There are people who really don’t like map completing who would feel pressured to if you made the rewards so vast.

If you don’t like it, don’t do it. If you do like it do it. That’s pretty much the way the whole game is set up.

That’s why the rewards are set the way they’re set.

If that was the case, judging by the amount of negative posts I see on these forums – no one would play the game. If I don’t like something, I will say that I don’t like it and I will ask anet to make some alternative for people like me. I think that’s fair.

If you really enjoy completing maps after you managed to complete 100% of world map, then either you’re one of those people who really enjoy repeating the same content/grinding, which I personally don’t; or you have some serious mental issues. And it would be nice to have something that would encourage me to finish these maps again. Those small rewards just don’t quite do this for me.

Apparently I have some serious mental issues. What a way to find out
