I believe all flying creature are simply elevated, you can see it from ranger’s pet when they use birds or even when you transform into a flying creature, they actually follow the ground’s pattern (lower when going down a hill, getting stuck from rocks and things like that.
So they’re not flying per se.

I find it sad that people claims that one should find enjoyment purely in the gameplay.
I am sorry, this is not how I work, I don’t want to enjoy a game, I want to beat the living crap out of a game and show others how good I beat the game. Yes I like feeling slightly better than your average players, I am competitive, but avoid toxicity.
Does this make me a bad player? Because I don’t find enjoyment purely out of playing? But out of rewards, progression and those “stickers” as others said?
No, it doesn’t. I enjoy the same game as you all, but differently, in another way that touch me and makes me want to play.
Each has their motivations to play and no one has the right to judge you on that.
On another note
Yes, I want a reward for “playing long enough” in PvP.

Well to me anyway, but I like that “do not disturb” thing, it’s even better than invisible. You just don’t want people to talk to you and you made it very clear.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

^THIS
Please, meta isn’t really what’s bothering than the lack of new content.
There will always be a point in the game where content will get boringly easy in pve because you’re up against predictables arguments, and humans, with all their intelligence and curiosity, will always manage to find a way to beat the machine and do things in such an efficient way that what was challenging becomes mind numbind.

I remember the first time we all did AC and the mobs wiped the floor with us, poor souls that we were. And the first solo dungeon run? It was an amazing event.
But community shared info, and mobs became predictable, shortcuts have been found and strategy too.
You’re not forced to abide by meta if you don’t want too, and you can still find groups who’ll run it as they want, without stacking.
Fact remains that the best time/efficiency you’ll have is a zerker gear coupled with a stacking strategy and that’s what humans seeks to do: The most things in less time possible.

I think gw2 is currently locked on a mind numbing routine that I hoped will be corrected by HoT release, because most of the content that has been found has been “broken” into shared info and strategies have already been made to make it as efficient and as quickly as possible. Is this ok?
Depends.
I don’t mind because I don’t do PvE unless I need gold, and then the current meta is perfect for my mindset: as much gold as fast as possible.
Yet it is not ok, because the lack of content force these QQ threads and you’re not wrong in doing them.
You want change, and nothing is happening. This is wrong.

Anyone have advice for elementalist?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

The main difference with ele, is their use of Attunments (air, water, fire and earth), where each has a specific purpose, fire provide you with heavy dps, water has some CC but mostly heals, air is CC and DPS while Earth provide conditions, some sustain skills and damage. (keep in mind it may vary depending on weapon)
Because ele has access to 20 skills per weapons, they have no weapon swap to change too, meaning their weapons skills are fairly linear (a dagger ele will only fight close range (one skill is mid range I think) scepter will fight mid range and staff has long range abilities)
Ele is a class that has a lot of Field and Blast (a few leap also), and auras.
I think (I am not sure) that ele is the only class that has skills that directly apply an aura and, with all of their weapons combined, as access to all of the elemental one (not chaos, light or anything)

As for the weapons
Staff gives you access to 1200 range on almost (if not all) of your skills, many aoe, Heavy-DPS, heal and CC.
The builds relying on staff will usually need you to go full burst, they are not as rewarding as Scepter-based or D/D, but can do terrible damage to the other team if you do it properly.

Scepter is mainly used because of the synergy of the air trait line and fresh air build.
It’s a burst either used with a dagger for more damage and access to an heal, or focus, for invulnerability, clear condition and, overall, a more defensive setup.
Make no mistake, Fresh Air is almost pure burst that needs very precise timing and a good control of your fingers. I am not familiar with scepter, so I may have left out a bit

Dagger can be used as a main-hand with focus or another dagger or off-hand with scepter.
A dagger based build is a close-ranged one, either combined with focus (as I did for a kittenized fresh air build that didn’t work SO well) or with a dagger, that provides you with a in-your-face sort of style. You have the mobility to chase, but also the type of skills that makes you jump everywhere.
A D/D triple cantrip gives you access to around 15 clear conditions on a 60 second cooldown (between 9 and 60sec, in fact), which helps a lot to mitigate the conditions damage.

Focus is an off-hand weapon that provides nice CC and defense oriented skills (an aura, a reflect that removes 3 condi, a invulnerability skill, etc)

Right now ele is in a really good place overall,
In WvW they can provide nice addition to a zerg with staff which provides nice water fields, healing and CC
As a roamer you have enough mobility and damage potential to do fairly well.

Ele in PvP is in an excellent position with the D/D cele meta build.
Ele overall is a class that revolves around the word “versatility”.
It is a Jack-of-all-trade class where you need to rotate between elements, because your CDs are quite high and you will not be able to make the ele shine as well if you stay in one attunment.
An ele does not have a lot of health, nor a lot of armor, and in low levels it is a merciless class where you may die often.
It gets easier as you level up and unlock traits, however, especially the water and arcanae which are almost mandatory to survive in PvP/WvW

Elementalist is a profession where you absolutely need to move around while casting.
Kiting is essential for our survival, but it is a fun class to play and master.
There’s a few rotations you’ll need to learn and I’d suggest to watch good ele players (such as phantaram) to give yourself a look at what the class can look like.

Anyone have advice for elementalist?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

Depends on what kind of advice you want…
We could get into lengthy explanations about the importance of a proper rotation, the role of the ele in the current pvp/wvw/PvE meta, the different types of builds and their uses, the main differences between an ele and another profession, etc.
Asking for advice without any indication on your experience, game mechanics and game type you enjoy is like asking to explain physics without guidelines… Long and painful for everyone.
If personally be glad to help as much as I can but I’d like a bit more information about what sort of advice you want, is it your first gw2 character? Is it lvl 80 yet? Do you want to do pvp wvw dungeons fractal?

Weird Ele Nuke Move

in PvP

That’s, indeed, really weird.
I wasn’t there, so I can only throw suppositions.
The only leap we have is magnetic grasp, which has a range of 900, but it does hardly any damage at all.
If he was stealthed, what makes you say that he leapt? SR gives 14 sec of stealth and, with ele mobility, you can close quite a distance in such a time (RTL, etc).
For the 18k, there’s one S/D burst that can one shot pretty much anything quasi instantly, but it’s a weird, not really viable, build, beside a fresh air could do that amount of damage quite easily if properly buffed.
Do you remember the weapons he used?

When zerging mentality will ever changed?

in PvP

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

I am kinda sick and tired of zerging mentality in pvp since introduction of spectating mode.

Maybe it’s my own fault, personally I see little in the role of spectator mode over zerging, to me the fast pace where people can join and leave as they wish, or switch team is the real reason.
5v4 where half of the team switched in less than a minute will result in confusing events, such as snowball or zerging. Try to do an opening 1 3 1 or 1 2 2 when you start the game with 2 people. GG.

Even tho spectating was good however bringing spectating on hotjoin servers is just terrible. I feel like pvp of this game became worse after 2 years.

You want us to see hotjoin as a valuable pvp mode, however you fail to notice how different unranked/ranked match are compared to it and judge pvp on the sole base of a fast joining paced mode where the players will leave as soon as they can’t stand their own kitten on the losing side.
In fact the simple fact that you can’t switch team or leave conveniently the game (as in closing your game) without dishonor (in ranked mind you) contribute largely to a mindset where better strategy can be born (instead of the usual zerging (not that you won,t see it, but players will adjust quickly and still manage to win despite that))

I really don’t blame about players. This is the fault of ANET’s developer team.

WELL, yes and no.
It’s part of the players fault (mine too actually) I don’t go into hotjoin to bother playing properly.
I either want to grasp a class, test a kittenty build or have fun in farming people over and over again until they leave (or get farmed over and over again until I leave)
There,s this fun in bringing ten people to fight off point, and it’s only possible to do in hotjoin.
Par of ANET’s fault also, because they created that mode where anyone who wants to farm can come and go as they please, without waiting for a queue (1:00 – 3:00 never killed anybody, and if you can’t wait that long for a match, I consider you equally responsible to the state of hotjoin, because you can’t possibly have the time to conclude a match with so little at your hands) or wait for the whole match completion. They can just grasp the first game, get a win, rinse and repeat.
Creating the mode was their fault
What players made of it is entirely their responsibility. Hotjoin as it is is the players sole and only responsibility.

Current design forces people to zerg and pvp maps are way too small and easy to travel.

my mesmer and history of unranked/ranked playing disagree with that.
Zerging is usually the cause of team loss (my own observation). People will just out rotate them and back cap people (but then again, you don’t see that in hotjoin).
And it’s long enough to go from spawn to far when I have the pace of a snail, I’m pretty content with the map’s size as it is.

Don’t bring me dodge+invul etc. In this game, there is no profession to counter non stop crowd controls (both soft and hard) and immobolise stacking (where is diminishing return!?).

Actually, I’ll bring it.
dodge is a life saver when used properly, and so is invuln, or stability and even blind and chilled.
You cry about the lack of counter over CC, yet you tell us to not “bring you” the very counters existing?"
I’ll tell you that my lockdown mes is pretty much countered by any decent s/d thief, simply because of their amount of dodge and evade.
I’ll laugh in a necros face and cry in front of a thief, that’s how the game is.
And you need to admit that, sometimes, the best counter for a build is to not get ganked by said build, because 1v1 isn’t the point of pvp.
My job isn’t to 1v1 people, it’s to make sure that my team win, and people who whine about that are funny at best.
If I can +1 a fight, I’ll do it and trust me that he (or they) will properly get ganked, while making sure that I am never 1v1d if I can avoid it.
I’d rather be 2v1 or 3v1 then 1v1, because holding 2 or 3 people on you while your team can do something else actually provide more to the game than fighting against one other player.
I’d rather have 5 people at mid, than one guy sitting uselessly at home doing absolutely nothing than watching butterflies, that makes you either superior in numbers, where you have better chance at winning, or equally numbered, elevating same chances (while avoiding backcap)

Hotjoin is just a bunch of pve starting, farmers, trolls and pvp players learning another class’ basics, without bothering with proper strategy, don’t expect that mentality to change, because the mode itself encourage it. coming, going and switching team as you please will ruin whatever other strategy people wants to do.

Questions for a starting Elementalist

in Elementalist

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

Keep in mind that I do exclusively PvP
The good:
The versatility (which is a recurring point from everyone I think)
The fact that I can solo might stack to a solid 20 and keep it
I can 3v1 without dying and still have enough skill to flee if it gets too tight
I can fill a lot of role, from roamer to point keeper (versatility again)
Cele dish out fairly good damage while having incredible survivability
The fact that I need to do acrobatics with my fingers is really rewarding in itself

The bad
There’s no “burst” in itself, Ele is focused on sustain damage (D/D) and I find fresh air subpar compared to other burst build (but THAT is my opinion)
Relies way too heavily on arcane and water to be decent
Good at everything, great at nothing
It’s just not as satisfying to play as my memser or necro

The Build
If you want a good-at-everything build > celestial D/D is really great
A burst build that does really decent damage, but is highly predictable > Fresh air
I also like to run D/F fresh air when I feel witty
Staff/conjure is a sure token in dungeon.

no he’s talking about pvp…
pve is pretty much irrelevant since each class can do fairly well alone
But OP, I get what you mean, however I think knowing the other class is mandatory to consider yourself as a good player no matter the class you play. What makes ele easy, though, is the current cele meta, since all a player has to know is the rotations to do well and be quite hard to kill, but give a cele ele in the hand of a master and you’ve got a monster coming up. The stats the cele ele possess gives a lot of room for mistakes while dealing substantial amount of damage

Since when is Elementalist a faceroll class?

in PvP

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

Pepsi.8907

Happy New year!
I think that by Faceroll (and I kinda agree with that) is that a beginner can start an ele, learn the rotations through element (air, fire, water, earth) trait with the meta build with no idea how the class mechanic works or the small details that are supposed to make a difference and still have the ability to kill players.
They aren’t good as a player or team player but because the rotation itself is simple and the meta build is very forgiving to mistakes, it makes the whole class rather easy to get the grasp of and make yourself look good
They can’t adapt to different scenario, they can’t do a proper team play or support others they can’t decide when is the proper time to do the might rotation or which skills to use on different scenario, they probably still try to land churning earth… Yet the sustain given gives them room for such mistake while the easy might stack still provides them with decent damage.
In short gives them a Cele amu, the rotation to stack might and most players will be good to go and able to win fight. That’s what they means by a Faceroll class

“Game time is there, go into your system, figure out what bugged, and fix it”
This is where I stopped, because you clearly do not know what you are talking about.
It,s easy from your viewpoint to snarl and QQ all you want. To you it seems as easy as "Oh, they forgot to check the “make sure there is 10 players in game before it begins” button.
Let me tell you a small little truth:
That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works. Sometimes, even despite their tests and all their work, bugs still manages to slip in. So yes, you wait very patiently, because they are working very persistently on the issue.
I don,t know what you think Devs are doing, but you are ignorant and arrogant.
It’s not as abvious as an unchecked box, an infinite loop or or something that won’t even cause the code to work properly.
It,s just a little thing that changes another little thing that causes a problem as big as this.
And this small problem, while we, from the player perspective, can see it very clearly, the devs, in their thousands and thousands amounts of lines of code, may not. Because it’s so kitten small. Or they see it, they know exactly what it is, but it’s part of something so important that removing this bug would cause a part of the system to fall and crumble. They need to workaround all that.
It takes time, because if they do things wrong, they might mess the whole thing.
I see you coming with. “That’s why testing exists”
Testing can only bring you so far. The real test will be with the community and no it won’t always work.
Players will ALWAYS manage to kitten something because that’s how players are. They always manage to slip in the crack you think they won’t go in.
So yes they are aware of it, yes they are working on it, but guess what, programming do take time, suck it up. It happens.
So kitten up, deal with it or get out.
That’s how amazing it is. You have a choice!

Lowering mobility of elementalist class

in Elementalist

Posted by: Pepsi.8907

I completely agree… here what we should change:
each time they cast a fire spell they apply their own burn on themselves, fire dash will have a range of 150 on the dash and the aoe will be reduced to 90% of his previous area of course evade should be removed from the skill too much mobility…

water should chill them

stunned each time they use air, and to make sure they have no mobility whatsoever, RTL won’t move anymore. Ele will be immobilized for the whole duration of the spell .

Earth should, of course, apply immobilisation. and maybe some stack of bleed if they stay in it for more than 3 seconds
Get real people, ele has issue, mobility is not one of them.

I won’t get into the whole “is it worth it” argument.
To me it was, I wanted it, so I worked toward it and I am happy. Point made.

But just to mitigate a few things, I’ll show numbers (everyone like numbers right?)
Only for armor though, didn’t calculate the rest…

Basic stats are:
light: 920 (exotic) vs 967 (ascended) increase of 47 or a total of 5.11% for the full 6 piece
medium: 1064 (exotic) vs 1118 (ascended) increase of 54 or 5.08% for the full 6 pieces
heavy: 1211 (exotic) vs 1271 (ascended) increase of 60 or 4.95% for the full 6 pieces

Now let’s take a look at the stats
for gear like rampager, berserker, etc that modifies three stats we have roughly:
Main stat: 315 (exotic) vs 329 (ascended) increase of 14 or exactly 4.44%
Secondary stat: 224 (exotic) vs 235 (ascended) increase of 11 or exactly 4.91%
Secondary stat (crit dmg): 16% (exotic) vs 17% (ascended) increase of 1% or exactly 6.25%

For celestial
140 (exotic) vs 147 (ascended) increase of 7 or 5%
19% (exotic) vs 19% (ascended) increase of exactly 0

so give or take you have roughly an increase of 5% stat increase from exotics to ascended armor…

I only did the maths for armor, since this is what we are discussing here, yet I think trinkets give a significantly more increase, but I would like a confirmation on this, same with weapons damage output (not the flat 5% increase).
However, this is what crafting ascended armor vs keeping your exotic will give you, without trinkets, without weapons. 5%.
If you are the sort of person that thinks “every bit will help” go get it, however the armor alone won’t make much of a difference and if your time is too precious for that grind, I’d suggest to not bother with it.
Again, as I said, this is for the 6 armor pieces alone, I do not count the trinkets nor the weapons, which will add to those stats, but they cost significantly less to do than the armor.

Since you’re using the auramancer you must have quit around a year ago?
as others suggested level your ele to 80.
What changed > the whole leveling system, you now receive “gifts” until lvl 80 and the system of traits points have been remade
Many more things, but that’s what I can think of (except the new dry top and silverwaste maps)…

As an 80 what would you wish to do?
WvW, PvE, PvP?
It is important to know this, since it will influence your builds.
Don’t craft ascended armor and weapons if you focus solely on PvP for example or don’t plan on doing fractals.
While ele is in a good place right now, auramencer is more a thing of the past. Some builds I can think of:
Fresh air build
Celestial D/D
Staff conjure
S/F LH

Do a quick sift of the ele forums, lots of topics on builds and such.

Maybe find a guild? Tons of them out there that will welcome a returning player, and they will help you in game where we cannot.

Wow thanks everyone for the responses! Looks like I have a lot of layouts to try.

with a utechsmart venus mouse (lovely thing really)

Movement: wasd (with strafe)
Dodge: e
Heal: r
turn about : q
air attunment: c
earth attunment: v
water attunment: shift
fire attunment: middle mouse click
Utility skills : maj, mouse button 1 & 2 (next to thumb)
look behind : g
Select enemy: mouse button 3
Draw/stow weapons: mouse button 10
elite: mouse button 4
swap weapons: mouse button 11

I’m just using a regular 5-button mouse now, but I was looking into the Venus. Looks to have nice functionality for the price.

I had the G700 you mentionned before switching for venus
I don’t regret it the slightest. I will miss the click that made me able to just swing my middle scroll almost as long as I wished it to XP and the buttons are a bit hard to push compared to my previous mouse
But once I’ve adjusted I don’t think I’ll go back, it truly is an awesome mouse if you use a palm grip, though it is not for small hands, but neither is the g700 so you should be safe.
Do the move, you’ll be glad. I know I am.

the class isn’t the problem per say
celestial is…
if you nerf the class itself you nerf perfectly balanced or at least not OP builds into oblivion.
wouldn’t want that…

My mmr is probably on the lowest end of the board, but I still think I would like it to be shown with the other players, simply because I want to compare myself to others.
People can say “play for fun” all they like, my fun is to win, or lose grandiously at the very least. I am competitive, I like competition and I want to know where I am situated compared to others.
I know, instinctively, if I have been good or not in a game, if I helped my team or hindered it, showing mmr won’t change a thing. And if it happens that I am blasted because I have the lowest of the whole team and we lost? then so be it, what’s the worst they can do? Caps lock me to death?
At worst I report them… and block them.
But yes, show us people’s rank or mmr, I don’t care. Show something. Pve levels doesn,t mean anything…

To make queue shorter for once….
As many stated the first days/week is going to be the worst, but as soon as people get separated on the ladders (with premade team going up probably) you’ll find much more pugs as a Solo and much less AFKers…
