Temporary content. Your thoughts?

in Living World

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

I like it…….I find it fascinating hearing about peoples adventures in Frost and Flame which I missed…..I snapped up some of the dyes from the TP to make up for it. I am perfectly okay with the fact I missed some of the content…it feels like the world of Tyria is moving ever onwards, whether I am there or not, and I like that.

I am really disappointed by the complaining people are doing regarding this. And it’s saddening because no matter what ANet seems to do at the moment people kitten and whine like there’s no tomorrow.

Only thing regarding temporary content is that, I am reluctant to take any kind of break because I do like to do everything, and don’t want to risk missing something I might really want.

Aether dungeon needs radical nerfing

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

Honestly…..hard? It’s challenging, but the challenge feels about right.

I am not a hardcore dungeon-player, I generally avoid them, but as a very clever, patient in-game pal and guildie put a group together I went along and did it. Hey, I died a few times, but some of that was due to the crazy lag and DC’ing I was experiencing…..and I almost NEVER lag or DC in this game even at very busy events, so I couldn’t understand it happening in this dungeon.

I enjoyed it….every step, except the last boss. I died, and died and died, but I suck at the horrible-red circles of death part….that’s just me, the other players in the same group were doing just fine.

I think people complain too much. Let people who enjoy a challenge play in these dungeons, I am perfectly happy to enjoy the content beyond dungeons for the most part.

Aside from that, it makes me sad that the place is now pretty much abandoned. Re-introduce the 200% buff and people will soon return there in droves :-P

I’m sure some would return, but I don’t know if they would do so in droves. As long as the Living Story keeps introducing new content, new achievements, and new equipment – especially when they’re temporarily available – I don’t think Southsun’s will ever see the kind of traffic it did during the Canach’s chapter of the Living Story.

I think this is a good point, Living Story now seems to be creating FoTM content that will attract the hordes wherever it is staged leaving the reast of Tyria, if not deserted then severely depleted of players.

I agree…….but in some ways, at least those of us who want to enjoy the 200% buff can do so. And as someone else said, perhaps if they could introduce some events that don’t require groups to kill all the karka, or just decrease the intensity of the karka.

Why I've considered leaving GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

I was preparing myself to read this thread and not agree with anything said, but when I read the OP I found that I agree.

I loved the lore of GW1, but I have found that the stories in GW2 are what I would describe as happy-happy-joy-joy. The better descriptions I’ve seen in this thread are shallow and goofy.

I loved the Lord of the Rings books too, yet the ‘comedy’ in those are believeable in so many ways. And it’s not goofy or trying too hard, it’s natural and helps to offset what is actually a very dark, intense and emotional story. However I agree, it’s not fair to compare GW2 to that because frankly, not much can compare to the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien is a literary genius.

That said, I enjoyed the stories of GW1, and felt they had enough of a balance, a nice bit of dark and light. GW2 has lost it’s way……..and the world feels shallow because of it.

What a shame, seriously, what a shame.

I have much respect for ANet, and I enjoy GW2 for what it is, but I can finally appreciate what the GW1 vets have been saying.

My only complaint concerning the new armor skins, is that there is only one per armor-group. I would have liked to see more armor skins in the gem store……more variety. I would likely buy them all.

Come on ANet stop being stingy with new armor skins.

However had the store page said… only there’s a 10% chance of getting a jade ticket… I wouldn’t have purchased any. Instead they merely inform you of a greatly increased chance of getting one. These words are essentially meaningless unless you know the figures. I made my purchase decision based on previous weapons in the cash shop. The winter ones, which I think were 800 gems each. And thus i expected that the drop rate for a jade ticket would be sufficient to potentially get you a ticket one in every 800 gems.

All I can say really is that if should a similar event happen again with more boxes of some variety (which I doubt ANet will do considering the backlash from people) avoid buying gem store boxes as much as possible. I didn’t like them in the Wintersday festival and felt apprehensive about them this time round.

PolarisNova.3867

It’s really quite simple…

I am not asking for my money back or a jade ticket.
I am however saying that I do not expect to pay 4000 gems worth of real money and potentially get nothing of value. The rich coffers jade ticket rarity is clearly high enough that this has happened to quite a few people, implying this is the intention and not the exception. (Though more data would be nice). I do not intend to support this game again until this practice ceases because i do not believe this is the kind of practice I want to support.

Essentially, what you are saying is meaningless to me, the point of my post and needless derails the conversation to a blame game rather than whether such business practices are acceptable. Which is what the conversation should be about,

I posted in another thread that you would have been better off converting that 4000 gems into gold, buying a ton of normal coffers and going from there. Quite possibly would have had better luck as you would have had a lot more coffers to open.

I understand you feeling angry, however I personally only risk what I am willing to lose. If I am not willing to risk wasting 4000 gems on what I know is RNG….then I won’t buy those gems. There is an element of responsibility here too. That said, I do think ANet is capable of coming up with a system that guarantees a ticket….through individual effort, rather than RNG.

Not a massively easy way….I don’t consider myself hardcore necessarily, but I wouldn’t want rare skins handed out like candy either.

Honestly I purchased some jade coffers because I expected better of Arenanet than literally receiving nothing of value or note out of 4000 gems.

If this is what I can expect of Arenanet in the future. Burning £42 worth of gems for literally nothing, I shant be spending money on gems until they drop the RNG focused cash shop system.

Pretty much burned away a lot of the good will Arenanet had earnt themselves with me.

Better way would have been converting those gems to gold and buying lots of the normal dragon coffers. I opened about 350 coffers and got a ticket…..this was after I opened about 5 of the rich coffers and got nothing, and decided I wasn’t going to risk trying any more.

"a single-player instance"

in Living World

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

Said it in another thread….but there is PLENTY of group content in the game. Why does the odd single-player instance….that isn’t even 10 minutes long and for a festival of all things, hurt people so much?

~Lady Amelia of the House of Rose~

Why are the new instances single player?

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

I think there is enough group dungeons/guild missions out there, that the odd single-player instance doesn’t hurt anyone. If anything, festival content is the sort of thing I like to do on my own mostly because it’s quick to do, I’m not hanging around waiting for anyone else, and it’s more personal to an extent.

Some people will disagree and say, but it’s not a single player game. No….and that is why it has multiple group dungeon, guild mission, wvw etc etc. Plenty for those who want to do social interactions, so the odd single-player instance isn’t a big deal in my view.

PolarisNova.3867

So ya, I’m going to be harsh. The effigy ‘content’ was idiotic. Not one single bit of it makes any freakin’ sense. And idiotic by any other name would still smell as stupid.

I think there is a lot of unnecessary disrespectful language used on these forums, but also across the board in gaming, and its really time people started communicating like adults with the ability to express their views in a way that is constructive and purposeful.

My opinion on the effigies is that they are part of a celebration in a land that has been torn to pieces in many ways by the onslaught of dragons. Now, I wouldn’t necessarily run across miles to dance to various effigies, though maybe after a few drinks I would. My attitude would be: “Kitten those dragons, lets burn these effigies to the ground because we mean business! The dragons are going to a piece of their own medicine!” Well…..that said, it’s a festival. I honestly do not know why people cannot simply RELAX enjoy the content for what it is. It is a game….it’s not the be all and end all of life. And it surely must be FUN otherwise people wouldn’t keep getting involved in these things when they arise.

I’m curious if OP would actually be brave enough to say directly to an ANet dev in person, that their content is “idiotic”. Is there not a less insulting way of expressing a dislike for content? Maybe it’s just me.

Daily Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

It really feels at times looking at this forum, that nothing ANet can do is going to please some people. I personally consider the dailies both optional and a side activity, not a MAIN activity, which is what the OP is claiming.

Look at the amount of things there are to do in this game! Is this the first MMO for some people no these forums? I can easily compare GW2 to other MMO’s and consider that there is MORE to do at any stage of the game, whether it be early levels or this elusive “end game”.

There are lots of dungeons with multiple paths, fractals, various achievements, weapons to work towards, guild missions, dynamic events from which you can keep earning karma, xp and money…….how many MMO’s allow you to keep going over the same in-world content like this? Not to mention the wvw and spvp areas of the game.

If I went back to Aion or Lotro…..I couldn’t go to any map previously completed and run around with total free will re-doing content, or experiencing dynamic events I never saw before.

Seriously…..dailies are not endgame, they are an optional side activity. If you don’t like it, because it feels unsatisfactory, then use your free will and don’t do it.

Another thing I am beginning to feel at times, is that people want something for nothing. To gain laurels you do the appropriate content, or you choose not to. This is what MMO games entail. You don’t get free stuff just for logging in and looking pretty.

So... how's that temporary content going?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PolarisNova.3867

PolarisNova.3867

I’ve noticed on these forums, some posters like to think they are posting on behalf of the masses, I like to speak for myself. I enjoy the temporary content….I actually really like that I have a certain amount of time to get involved with/obtain said content, before it is gone. It really does make that particular event ‘special’ in my mind.

I also really appreciate what ANet are doing with the living world stories….I got a bit lost in Southsun, but then that’s my fault for not taking the time to really read what NPC’s were saying, but I got the general gist of things.

The only thing that I consider a ‘downer’ is during festivals, my favourite (farming) places tend to become rather quiet, for example Southsun is my favourite place now, and I can’t get much done there because people are running around gathering zhaitaffy and smashing pinatas, but I know this is temporary also, and truth be told I have been running around enjoying the Dragon Bash too.

I honestly think there is far more complaining on these forums than is truly warranted….but then I’ve played a few MMO’s and the main forums are usually like this. Thumbs up from me ANet…there are things that need improvement, but really this is a class and quality MMO from my perspective based on how much enjoyment I get from this, and I don’t run out of things to do, and I barely ever touch dungeons.
