I wouldn’t mind having new pets for my ranger. It’s just another little collection option, and there’s been a grand total of one pet added since launch: the reef drake, from Southsun Cove. I was kind of disappointed that out in Dry Top and the Silverwastes, we didn’t see any tamable animals (with the exception of a couple of moas near the centaur oasis, but we already had those).
I’ll be extremely disappointed if there aren’t new pets for the ranger in the Heart of the Maguuma. After all, if they are becoming druids, don’t we need new companions to join this raise in status? I hesitate to suggest this, but maybe we’ll even see specialization-locked pets? Maybe not, since druids can switch back to rangers freely…
Yo mama’s so fat, she makes the Pale Tree look small.
Yo mama’s so fat, the elder dragons look like drakes.
Yo mama’s so dumb, she makes the quaggan angry.
Yo mama’s so fat, the grawl started worshipping her.
You only get achievements every 5 HOM points. The HOM calculator page should update eventually, but I think the overall GW2 servers are being weird today.
The 5-step only happens after 30, where it is just titles. The first 30 ranks give you an unlockable. Have you been to the Hall of Monuments to see if the new unlock is there?
Personal thought:
1st: I have 11 level 20 scrolls and, 79 level up scrolls (I used 60 before that to try and earn some money at it, wasnt that good) so I do not really need it.
2nd: If Revenant starts at level 1 (Wich I hope and guess) I would level it from scratch so I can learn the class from A to O.
Lore-wise it could work with a level 80-class that Unlocks once you get an old class to level 80 but as level in this game (IMO) is meant to be as a tutorial I think it is a ver stupid move.
I’ll take over from O-Z
So does that make you a good wizard or a bad wizard?
I haven’t read a lot of this thread. It’s far too long, and I just don’t have time to read all of it, so I apologise if I’m retreading old ground.
Here’s what I would suggest. If there is a specific type of reward going to be added to the game, like the Carapace body armor chests, I would have little to no RNG. If specific content is being done for almost no other reason than a specific carrot, then there should be a reasonable expectation that it can be achieved.
As far as random gear drops from enemies, I’d just leave it as an RNG. A probability table for fine, masterwork, rare and exotic gear keeps the respective equipment at least close to their respective values. If we’re talking precursors specifically, let the probabilities fall as they will, and the new collection systems should help to mitigate this.
You may need skill points to unlock the new skills in specializations, or even part of unlocking the specialization. Also, anything that Miyani sells is bought with skill points, and not all of them are for crafting legendaries.
For the most part, the April Fools joke has always been some alteration of the normal to the game. While a news post on the site can be a joke, something different will change in-game.
Honestly, I don’t really want to guess at what they’re going to do, though, as any idea I suggest will almost definitely not happen then. I’m just ready to be surprised and ride the wave when it hits.
I’ve switched back and forth from the personal story to the Living World and back again. There should be a button that says to make this the active story. Have you looked at the top of that category for a button to make it the “active story” again? It’s been a while, so I’d have to boot up the game to review what I did before.
In reviewing my sylvari’s personal story, it mentions how “there is no coming back from the Nightmare”. Using the knowledge that sylvari are supposed to be dragon minions, I interpret that as the Nightmare succumbing to Mordremoth, while the Dream somehow protects them from being corrupted, controlled… whatever. What we haven’t learned, though, is why the Tree is somehow protecting the sylvari from instantly being minions.
I don’t think we can call it a success or a failure just yet. Season 1 style was a total failure, as people started complaining about missed content and the pressure put on the narrow timeline. Season 2 style, though, seemed to have been received positively and will probably continue. Which really is what will be the test. If there is a season 3, it’s a success; otherwise, it’s a failure.
Bring Back (a little) Race Specific Dialogue
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Rognik.2579
I know Chapter 1 and Chapter 8 both have unique dialogue for asura, although you might not always be on the direct path. Also, unless you’ve done the instance on an alt, or looked on the wiki page, you might not even know there is a change. Sylvari specific text seems to be much more obvious, though.
Well I, personally, have no problem with it. Plus, it was expected right from the beginning. It was made clear in their pre-launch build up that the level cap would be a one-time deal. After all, my character is probably level 200, based on the amount of skill points he’s got, minus those I picked up from maps. If the level cap was suddenly boosted, that’d cause problems as far as progress to level 81 is concerned. Mastery and specialization both seems like interesting ways to have lateral progression without increasing the cap and I look forward to seeing how these work, exactly.
Rytlock will not meet up with Logan again as Logan died, along with Eir and Zojja.
flees from the fallout of that comment
It would depend a lot on what the specific Masteries are. I could see scope for some Masteries that tie in to older maps to be introduced at the same time. For example:
Risen Reaper: Obtained by completing the Risen Slayer achievement (kill 1000 Risen), completion of the Arah dungeon mastery, and unlock all the Orrian weapon skins. Grants a permanent +5% damage against Risen and -5% damage taken from Risen.
I doubt this would be the way to unlock a mastery, as achievements are skin unlocks are account-wide, which masteries are more likely character based. It’s possible that masteries could be account-based, but that doesn’t really play into the idea of character progression in my mind.
We know that story updates will not be happening, but other stuff will be happening to the game. I have no guesses as to what that might be, but something will probably be coming to keep us entertained as we chomp at the bit for HoT.
to unlock Point of No Return, you have to……. play it? i’m a few episodes behind and want to make sure that’s all i have to do…..
1) You don’t even have to play the current chapter to unlock it. Just log in before February 24th (2015) and done. I’m not even sure you need to click the little green star in the lower-right.
2) The OP was talking about past chapters that he had missed. To get back chapters, they cost 200 gems, but I’m pretty sure that’s not going away any time soon. Players speculated about a “season pass” or some discount on buying all of the Season 2 content in one bundle, but there’s been no word from up high, so I wouldn’t make plans based on that.
Also, I don’t know how long you’ve been playing your guardian for, but if you’re getting bored with him, try a new class. There’s 7 others out there for you to experiment with, and they all work a little differently. You could also try a different race to experience a new storyline, or stick with the asura and try a different combination.
And like Elegy said, use whatever traits and weapons you want in PvP. The only way the meta changes is if someone finds a new and creative way to use what is already in the game.
Also, if you want to do anything to take a closer look at your underwater pets, you must be underwater to do so. (changing pets can be done above water, but if you wanted to name them for whatever reason, you must do so underwater)
To my knowledge, the limit is only is getting the episodes free, not to purchase. The intention is that they are permanent content, so feel free to buy them whenever you want to.
This has been an issue for me since the patch. No biggie, but rather annoying.
Just this last patch, or longer than that? Now that I know it’s not just me, at least the devs can read about it here (if no one else has commented on it yet).
Why can Rytlock change classes? Because he’s a special hero. If new classes come out, I’m sure someone will come along having it, perhaps as a change.
Will a character ever change base classes? Unlikely. For one thing, the progression from 1-80 is all about learning how to use that class. If we’re allowed to change classes, not only is there a chance we’d be equipped with the wrong armor or weapons, we’d have to adapt to completely different mechanics. Specialization is different, as I don’t think everything will change, but add a bit more like new weapons and skills.
Even if all of Lion’s Arch doesn’t get fixed, can we at least get the lion statue in the center of town working again? Aside from 2 months at the beginning of the game, and maybe another one or two before Scarlet destroyed the town, it’s been in this half-broken state. I bet a lot of players have never seen it working.
Now, this is a minor nitpick certainly but I’m asking here for clarification.
Over the weekend, I was taking one of my lower alts around the world and leveling her up thanks to the double XP weekend. I found some new gear and equipped it to her. However, when I did so, all the colour disappeared from it. As I recalled, the dye system was supposed to make it so that every item I picked up would instantly match that colour scheme. Did this get removed, or is this a bug in the system?
Admittedly, we don’t know how the transition into HoT is going to work. Will there be an introductory cut scene when activating that story for the first time? Will we need to know anything besides Mordremoth is awake to enjoy it? How are we going to get to the new maps? It’s possible Marjory and company won’t have a big role to play (we really need an official name for this group…) or they may be part of the driving force. It’s still way too early to tell.
I agree that something should be done about Season 1, though. I don’t care so much about the open world content that was cut, but maybe all the instanced stuff could be gathered together. For instance, a note about how a norn from Cragstead came to Hoelbrak, demanding action transitions into meeting Braham. A mention about Dragon Bash can transition into Marjory’s quest. I’m certain something simple could be cobbled together to bridge the major events missed, like a modified Marionette fight, or a simplified Tower of Nightmare. Just… something to introduce the characters, some of their background, and other stuff that might be mentioned later.
Learn to play? That’s what you have to say? No sympathy for the person who has no time to invest in learning how to tweak their build to squeeze every ounce of damage output balanced with damage mitigation.
I’d consider myself a pretty casual player myself, but I got through the boss battle without dying once (downed state doesn’t count if I get back up), and I’m positive my build isn’t optimized (whatever “build” means in this game). And I suppose I should premise this with the fact that I haven’t done any sPvP, WvW on and off (mostly for 100% map completion), and maybe some of the holiday PvP stuff.
Did I run around for a while, wondering what I’m supposed to do? Absolutely. I knew, though, that once the glowing fire in a white circle entered, I had to grab that. The prompt that I needed Divine Fire at the gears told me that I grab it, then run to the edges. The red circles told me that the dragon was coming and I need to get out of there.
The hardest part for me was the second stage when the shadow creatures started to extinguish the flames. At first, I thought I just had to rush through, and was cursing Rox for not tossing fire in more often. After about 20 minutes of that not working (not an exaggeration by much), I decided to try and kill the beast instead. Lo and behold, that worked. Didn’t even realize it was invulnerable unless I had the fire buff. Thankfully, much like the boss fight in chapter 4, the dragon seemed to be stuck there long enough that I could beat it down in 3 separate stages.
So is the fight difficult? Of course it is! But it’s also not so difficult that if you understand the mechanics of the game, and the special rules of this encounter, that you could beat it even with the worst build possible. (I’m almost, ALMOST tempted to try that out now.) “Learn to play” might be a bit harsh, but it’s kind of apt here, especially as you don’t even need to be outstanding.
Buying the episodes gives you free reign to access the episodes whenever you choose. There are items awarded at the end of each instances (4/chapter in the first half, 3 in the second), and additional achievements when you complete a chapter. About the only things that you cannot get without doing the stories are unlocking the Bioluminescent skins and the seed to create the back piece. So it’s totally up to you whether you want to buy the season or not.
My biggest advice in enjoying this game is when you find an NPC who starts an event (basically the various quests around the world), try sticking around for a few minutes after it ends. Sometimes, there’s a new vendor there with new items, sometimes he will run off to start a new event. Enjoy the exploration, and get used to being surprised by what’s around the corner. Even old-time players can find something they never knew existed in the game.
I remember someone made some proposal for a dragon minion race, but based out in the Crystal Desert and being Kralkatorrik based. Little did they know we already had a dragon minion race in our midst!
Well, if you’re using a ranged weapon and someone isn’t drawing fire, the enemies will generally charge you. Considering here melee weapons can hit in a small distance, there is some balance in that respect. In contrast, some of the ranged enemies when you get close with a melee weapon will switch to a melee weapon in turn. So I’m not sure there needs to be the same balance in damage vs range.
If you’re talking about the trinkets from Dry Top, you can also get those back by replaying the chapter and talking to the biconic (I hate that term) at the end will give you a new copy if you don’t have one. Spending laurels is just faster than doing the instance.
They actually said when you were talking to Ogden the first time. Wynne had a golden seal that allowed her to open the door. I don’t know how Caithe and Faolain could follow her in. Maybe they found a duplicate or jumped in before the passage sealed behind her.
Which living world trinkets are you talking about? The ones you unlock by completing all the bonus challenges in the chapters? I doubt there’s a way to get those back, sadly, aside from what Lethalvriend recommends. I suggest that next time, you be more careful when deleting something. I don’t know what else you might be meaning, of course.
Well, the ingredients automatically get a 250 slot storage area in the bank (multiplied if you got the item storage expansion), and it’s be too complicated to have to have them listed in the wallet as well. The tokens which are only used for vendors are much better candidates, since they aren’t useful for anything else.
The keys are an interesting idea. Much like the tokens, they are only really useful in the respective zones. On the other hand, using one will give you at least one item. I think if the zephyrite lockpicks and bandit keys are put in some sort of keyring, black lion keys would also need to be added. I’m not against the idea, but it would complicate things.
Well, shucks, you guys, why didn’t we just waypoint out of there? We got these wonderful waypoint things that are so great we don’t mounts — so why would we need choppers? Or ships at sea. Or anything else! It’s silly.
Well, we do need to get to the waypoint before they can be activated. That’s why we need to transport out to them. As for why the troops didn’t just waypoint out… Well, I think it’s the two Seraph in Fort Vandal that talk about how after the Mordremoth attack on the system made some of them wary of using it again. I’m not saying that it wouldn’t have been a viable option, but clearly the waypoints aren’t a perfect solution to getting a squad out.
It is marvelous to see so many mesmers together in one thread.
So you only have one place to wipe out? :P
Laughs omniously
Haha, by all means, continue your little gathering, darlings.
But how will you know what to hit when there are three conferences happening at once, each with exactly the same attendants?
The reason they introduce new tokens each place is because they want people to earn things from the related zone to purchase the new items, rather than just stockpile from the previous batch. I don’t so much have a problem with that so much as it keeps eating a hole in my inventory. I might be a pack rat and keeping too many thing, but I still feel my inventory is way too small for the stuff I keep getting inundated with.
(edited by Rognik.2579)
I didn’t see any dragons in the latest trailer. That was a teragriff, which is still scary, but not as powerful.
I didn’t enjoy the fight either, but part of that could be due to me doing it on my ranger and my pet was dead most of the time due to the AoE.
I think the wording and signaling on what to do could be a better. It took me a while to figure out to do for the facet of darkness boss fights as I ended up completing the 1st part before the boss pretty quickly and not knowing what happened.
Specifically, it’s especially confusing when you look at the boss abilities that says ~“Steals boons from the player”. I instantly thought it was talking about swiftness, retaliation, etc (i.e. what the rest of the game teaches you and call a boon) and not some instance specific ‘boon’. Perhaps boon can be replaced with ‘enchantment/buff’ or some other unofficial term that doesn’t conflict with the game’s established terminology. Secondly, the Fragility effect is not really a boon in the first place; becoming fragile and lowering your health sounds a lot more like a hex/debuff.
Finally, I’d suggest relooking at how the vortexes are presented. If the vortexes were presented as non-hostile until the ‘boon’ was brought to them (since they can’t be killed via damage before then anyways), I think that would go a long way to helping clear up the confusion. Or perhaps replace their white AoE rings with the standard orange?
First off, it does steal all the boons on a character near them. It just happened that a specific boon was introduced that was kind of negative. When I first encountered the fragility “boon”, I actually waiting behind all the crystal mine field until it wore off… until I discovered that I needed the boon to get past the wall.
As for the rings around the vortexes, it wouldn’t be appropriate for them to be orange because that would imply that they deal damage. They just steal boons, which generally don’t deal damage.
Soo- no, that’s not right.
When it’s read- probably not, I think there’s more to it than that.
When we need to? Getting across the ocean to get to Cantha is going to be near impossible, at least as long kitten -dragon is around. Even defeating it might not be enough to get us across the ocean. And the Ministry of Purity probably kept the asuras out, so no portals to get us across the sea… even if such things are possible.
The three heads of the snake look like they are pointing to letters, but not New Krytan. Could it be Asuran or another old script? Alternate option, it could be some sort of symbol for the Sinister Triad.
I’m going to put on my cynical cap here, and I don’t think Dragon Bash will ever come back. Either the last bash was tainted by the Aetherblade attacks and the death of the captain and they decided to abolish it, or it was always intended to be a one-time event, an excuse to have the election of either Evon or Ellen for the pirate council. If they didn’t do it this year, I doubt future years will hold it, either, especially now that Lion’s Arch is in such disrepair. (Maybe after the city is rebuilt.)
And no, it hasn’t. Because where you and others are seeing ‘omg new Lord’s and ‘omg gw1 lore’ I see ‘recap!’ And ‘gw1 references that make no logical sense and were added for the sake of calming the complaints!’
That’s a little cynical. Yes, much of it was recap, but when stuff is being recapped, it means it’s going to become relevant very soon. Some of the stuff was nods to forum lore debate, like the gods/dragon parallel (and all but confirms that there is no relation), and I believe a tiny bit actually did introduce new lore, such as the book on the centaurs.
Also, before someone brings it up against me, I’m pretty sure not ALL of the books in the library will become relevant soon, or this season, or possibly ever, but it does make callbacks to the original Guild Wars at the very least. The books that we had to read, though, I’m pretty sure bear at least some relevance to the next plot points.
Evon Gnashblade:
Evon founded the BLTC back when Charr/Human hostilities were still brewing, as an agent for the Ash Legion.
It gave the charr an invaluable legitimate reason to be in Kryta, while he could use his thief abilities to move stealthily in human towns and even Divinity’s Reach.
When peace broke out he was mostly a free agent, but it’s almost impossible to believe that the Order of Whispers was ignorant of this, so he’s probably in an intelligence sharing operation with them. With Trading Posts everywhere, information throws freely into his office and if anyone ever questioned that he could explain it was all for smart investing. That would explain why Delaqua Investigations isn’t hurting for money and most importantly why he could not deal with the situation at the Dragon Bash himself.
The problem with this theory is where’s the profit? Evon Gnashblade only cares about the shiny coins, and I don’t see him making one copper over deaths in Divinity’s Reach when he’s based in Lion’s Arch. Even ignoring the charr/human politics, I just can’t see the things E has done leading to him becoming richer.
On the “Glimmer” theory, I’d only accept the theory if he somehow polymorphed himself into a humanoid form. I find this doubtful, since Glint spent her entire life as a dragon, and if she could’ve turned herself human, I bet she would’ve.
I’ll restate the Ela Makkay theory, now that I know she’s been around for all of the Living Story. The only problem with it is that most of the Living Story Season 1 was lost, and that is never a factor where the story is involved. Now, I suppose it might be strange, since Marjory seems to know her, and it makes us wonder why a pseudonym would even need to be used. In any case, it’s the most plausible candidate I’ve heard to date.
First off, we know from the “Lost Parents” human storyline that the White Mantle aren’t gone. Aside from that storyline, though, I think the only other reference to the White Mantle is an event in western edge of Brisbane, and that’s entirely ghosts. So I guess it’s not entirely a surprise that the White Mantle is acting out there…
I think we’re back to bi-weekly updates, at least until Wintersday. We’ll have chapters 6 and 7, then Wintersday, then either there will be a break or chapter 8, depending on what state the story is in. That’s how it worked over the summer, after all.
Could it be Ela Mackay? I know everyone’s assuming that E’s a male… but how hard can it be to change your voice slightly, especially if you have magic/a wealth of Priory magic artifacts at your disposal. I mean… Arrow and Batman do it and noone ever works out who they are
I’m actually betting on this, too. I don’t think we ever met her before, even if Priory members seemed to have (off camera, perhaps). She sends a message to us, out of the blue, similar to how E sends us a message back in Chapter 1. I can only presume such familiarity is her forgetting how she signed her letter before (although that’d be strange, too).
I just kind of wish I could go in there outside of the story instance, now that I have permission to go in there. I mean, the lower level of the Durmand Priory is already instanced, so it’d be easy enough to keep anyone who hasn’t played up to that point from just wandering in. Then we can just wander into the kitchen and then down into the gigantic library. I’d be happy even if the super-secret part was sealed off. I guess it’s a minor gripe, though, since it is a purple star instance.
It’d be fun if the Nightmare Court potions worked on them, since the mordrem appear to be related in some fashion. It has yet to be confirmed, though, and I wouldn’t know how to test it or if someone would want to.
Actually I think that I got a little confused with the “choose the episode you want to play” mechanics cause I juste realized it was a “soul bound” process and that it cannot be played with a character under 80. So I guess the current episode did not trigger as I may have clicked on the “green episode cross” with my sub 80 character.
Merci beaucoup à tous les participants et ravi d’avoir croisé la grenouille sur le forum.
Well, from your first screenshot, you were on the right character but just in the wrong tab. I suppose it can be quite confusing if you weren’t playing back in July when the Story Journal mechanic was introduced (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-story-journal/ FYI), and you probably won’t be the only one confused. Clicking the “view in journal” should have at least indicated the page needed to start the chapter.
Si vous voulez jouer les chapitres avantes, donnez-moi un message en jeu et je peux les jouer avec vous. (Je m’excuse mon français, je suis anglophone.) Etes-vous français(e), or québeçois(e)? C’est pas importante, mais je suis curieux.
Phew! Even that short little paragraph gave my brain a well-deserved workout. Even living in a place with many francophones around me, I don’t practice nearly often enough.
