How to motivate yourself to actually play?

Those are all really helpful, so I thank you all, but to be honest, it’s hard to really feel interested in any of that when the idea of just booting up the game is a stressor and something that seems more boring than exciting for me.

I really do appreciate the suggestions, and I will try world bosses, exploration, RP, and PvP especially, as soon as I can get myself to (which, honestly, could be today or in two months.)

Sounds like you need to give yourself permission to take a break from the game. Just make sure to pop in when each living story chapter goes live so you get it for free.

So I been reading this for awhile and I asked support and this is the response I got.

Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team!

We appreciate your report. Map hopping is something we’re aware of but since players are still required to put forth effort even when changing a map, it isn’t technically considered an exploit. Should you come across any players abusing any of the rules on the Terms and Conditions please let us know!

So with that being said as long they purposely exploit a map then it would be ,but its not in this case.

While I don’t do hardcore farm I rather people play the way they want within fair play and not have misinformation being spread around.

Personally, I still think it is technically an exploit and will not be swayed until I see a high up person at ANet say so. In the past there have been agents that say one thing and others who say the opposite, mostly due to how the player reported it.

Because it seems that dev thinks it is the how they are map hopping that is the issue and not the multiple chests being opened.

Trait System Rework?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

Neither system is all bad or all good.

The old, original system allowed for more flexibility among the available traits and which slot held them. You could have The Adept, Master, and Grandmaster spots hold Adept traits if you wanted to. However, there were a lot of useless traits.

The newest system pretty much has no useless traits. It’s harder to build yourself into a really bad build due to this. However, flexibility within the traits isn’t that high.

The newest system is easier to balance than the oldest system due to the lower number of maximum possible builds. The oldest system is easier for players who prefer to play a certain way to trait a certain way.

There will be no system that will please everyone. The more flexibility there is the harder it is to balance and players will always be on the extremes of wanting more balance OR wanting more flexibility.

And remember that when they mess with the trait acquisition system it makes it harder to do balancing since there will be players who forget to reapply their traits.

With that last paragraph in mind, I do not think the current system is “broken” enough to warrant changing at this time.

Here is the thing about NCSOFT games. Games managed by NCSOFT are only in English, German, Spanish and French for NA/EU. Games licensed from NCSOFT and day to day is run by 3rd parties who pay NCSOFT royalties for the privilege, can be localized by those 3rd parties.

So until NCSOFT or ANet licenses a 3rd party to run servers in Russia, don’t think you will be seeing it happen.

And then those servers tend to be completely separate from the NA/EU ones. So you’d have to buy the game again to be able to play in Russian and you’d not be able to play with anyone who decides to not get the game on the Russian servers.

After watching TP prices today for several resource’s what are not obtained in Tarir. Their prices droped under 40 silver what used to cost more then ectos. Very clear that TP is being manipulated thx to the system design. As for the ecto’s today checking TP ingame price of it was lowered at some point to 35s what was fast gone after an hour.

The TP is GLOBAL. EU + NA.

Short of items with VERY LIMITED supply that are not being generated anymore, there is no way ANYONE can manipulate the market.

People can place items up for sell way lower than for current asking price. They may be players looking to get money quick, but need more than the current buy orders give, but don’t need as much money as the current sell orders ask for.

Just because an item has a temporary price drop or price increase doesn’t mean that anyone is manipulating the market for that item. Especially not without THOUSANDS of players using it.

Unfortunetly extra localizations means delay in patches for everyone. Which isnt very good. Thats why many games with full Russian translation are a separate region with another publisher.

This is was not a problem in GW1 they translate main story, items, skills etc, and later patches releases on english so i don’t see so much problem. This is why Blizzard do better job and treat they costumers on all languages equally.

There’s a financial difference between the two companies. Blizzard makes billions and ANet makes millions. Blizzard can afford to do what ANet can not.

ANet might have translated a smaller game but this game has much more dialog and the costs to run this game are higher

Again, this is was not problem in GW1, just give on outsource text to good russian localization company like Softclub and problem is solved. I know many people who like games like GW2, Teso, FFXIV, Destiny but didn’t buy them until they get russian localization at least subtitles, so they keep playing WoW.

There’s more to localizations than just translating text and having new dialog done. They’d have to hire support staff that can read it to handle tickets submitted by Russian speaking players and to handle non-Russian players reporting text in Russian they feel may be violating the rules.

And it would be until they shut the game down as they can’t go back on it. The cost to implement it would outweigh the money brought in.

Not that I care either way if people farm it all day or not at all. We have people saying it’s not that big a deal since you first have to farm the keys. Then others say, well it really doesn’t generate gold.

imo these are only half truths. One is it’s extremely easy to get more than an ample supply of keys with minimal farming. Providing the player knows what/how.

The other is generating gold. Bottom line, it’s generating gold for someone that’s for sure. To say it doesn’t put any gold in the game is nonsense.
If it wasn’t so dang profitable then why are there 100’s and 100’s of people doing it every other hour. If it wasn’t making someone gold then that someone certainly wouldn’t be doing it. To say vendoring is minimal at best in adding gold into the economy is silly as well. When people are vendoring by the 10’s of thousands a day it all adds up.

But if they weren’t farming this map’s meta, they’d be farming other events generating items to vendor. The net gold generated likely isn’t statistically different than other events.

But players can’t have stacks upon stacks of keys and there are only so many maps open to use those keys. And the meta only happens on a set timer.

No one is saying that there is no impact on the game. Just that the impact isn’t that huge or worth banning people over.

AB chests do not drop any raw gold. The only way it introduces gold is if someone vendors stuff, which as you said does not happen often.

They are guilty by association. The myriad of bags you get out of the chests do often drop a couple silver each.

And, I vendor a ton of stuff when I loot after Octovine… most notably trophies (that come out of bags) and the many minor sigils/runes I get from salvage. Vendor trash contributes a lot more to new gold than many people seem to think.

~EW

Ah. Forgot about the bags, and I don’t get too many minors due to forging greens. I still believe that the amount of raw gold removed from TP tax more than makes up for the small amount of raw gold earned from the event.

That and if they weren’t getting loot to vendor or coins directly from this event, they’d be getting it from another event or for doing something else somewhere else.

None of us that are saying it is an exploit are saying that players should be banned for it. But you can’t deny it is an exploit based on the definition of an exploit.

That depends on whether this is in fact an unintended/unanticipated method of gaining loot, which until someone from behind the scenes comments on, we can only speculate about.

My own feeling is that if it introduces more money to the economy, it also introduces more sinks. I’m not convinced it introduces significantly more money. Do the AB chests even give any coin loot? If so, limiting or removing that might be the only change needed.

Otherwise, the only effect this can have is to increase the frequency of certain items (be they raw materials from salvaging or rare loot) which will drive the high-end prices down and in turn drive total number of purchases of those items up. Items can only increase the amount of total gold in the economy if they are sold to an npc, so the only way this can inject money into the economy is if it pushes prices of both items and materials so low that a significantly larger portion are sold to a vendor instead of being listed for trade. I doubt this is likely to cause that.

Given that anet has, to my knowledge, never removed a mechanic by which gold is siphoned out of the economy, i can’t see them doing anything about this one.

Based on similar things, it is unintended. World bosses in Tyria are limited to once per day for the guaranteed rare. Fractals, dungeons, and raids are limited.

This situation is very similar to the original World Boss farming that was happening close to launch. People were guesting on other servers so they could loot more per character/account or whatever. No one got banned for doing that. Anet simply changed the parameters, made it account bound + daily, and all was good in the world. I foresee a similar outcome to the current AB farm.

None of us that are saying it is an exploit are saying that players should be banned for it. But you can’t deny it is an exploit based on the definition of an exploit.

I personally don’t think anyone should be punished for multilooting. Players don’t go into each meta with stacks upon stacks of keys and there aren’t a huge number of maps for players to go into and there’s the timers to contend to. It’s self-limiting with a fairly low limit.

AB multi is not an eploit in any sense of the word. It was designed so that you can loot chests from each instance of a map your on. If there were controls set in place that prevented you from doing this, and you happened to find a way around those controls and you used that method to farm several map instances, then THAT would be considered an eploit. No one is getting banned from doing this as it currentyl stands.

The main issue is not really about the economy. It’s about the reward:time ratio. There is currently nothing better in the game than AB multi in terms of rewards:time spent. You can drop in, loot everything you can till the timer runs out, and you can walk away with 20-30g depending on how luck you get with eotics, jewels, and ectos.

The problem is that it’s not balanced. The rewards are hugely disproportionate to the amount of time you put into it. So little time invested for such huge rewards is not what the developers will be okay with in the long run. Because in the long run, yes, you need to worry about the economy. In the beginning, it wasn’t hurting the economy too much. As of today, Ecto prices are 40-45 silver now, down from 50-55 silver. You can bet the AB farm has had something to do with it.

Personally I don’t care what they do with it. I know it’s going to get nerfed somehow. The dev’s simply want a balanced game and this presents imbalance.

Sometimes an exploit involves no extra work. Back I think in late 2012 early 2013 they updated the game and a typo was made on some karma gear that made it really profitable to take it and salvage it or mystic forge it to something else. Those who had purchased a huge number of them were banned. So don’t think that just because the game allows it, that it’s not an exploit.

Granted, I don’t think the current situation is an exploit or one worth banning over if ANet thinks it is an exploit.

Your ezample does not prove what I said is untrue. The gear that had the typo on it was an anamoly. It was different than all the other gear. Players took advantage of something. They were able to get around “the control”, even though it required no effort on their part.

What i’m saying is that there is no obvious control right now for multi-map farming. Players are able to do this freely, and it just so happens that the rewards are so good for doing this, that players are organizing around it. No one is ezploiting anything. If they were ezploting, i’m certain Anet would inform the playerbase that they consider this an ezploit, in which case everyone would stop doing it. If Anet says nothing, then it’s fair game until they say otherwise. And it would be very very very bad PR for Anet to ban the people who are doing this without giving the community an official stance on the matter first.

AB farm is not a bannable offense. We’re just playing the game within the design paramters set by Anet. If they didn’t intend for us to play the game this way (which im sure they didnt) then they will change it.

They are exploiting though by definition. Just because ANet doesn’t do anything to them, doesn’t mean that they aren’t exploiting. They are abusing code in the game to do things not intended by ANet.

Now, just because it is an exploit, doesn’t mean ANet should or will punish them. I do think that this is an exploit that shouldn’t have any bans or warnings or suspensions handed out. Overall it’s not that bad for the game and does take actual work to achieve and isn’t as easy as the AFK farming or karma exploits were.

Are Builds Broken?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

So I’m just wondering are the build/skills broken?

No they aren’t.

When (and even before) GW2 came out, I remember the hype about how the skills are so varied, and traits are so different that you can play GW2 any way that you want.

And it turned out that wasn’t that great a thing. When evaluated, the 600 different permutations had 300 really bad one and several thousand people had rolled those, giving them not only just a sub-optimal experience but a really, really bad one.

However, you can’t play anyway that you want.
There are some builds that just don’t work. Some traits and skills that are, quite frankly pointless.

Under the new system there aren’t builds that “just don’t work”. If they didn’t work you wouldn’t be able to create them, log in as them and play the game on them. Have you got any examples of what you mean and in which game type?

There are even some players, where all I see is the metabuild running everywhere.

And? Not sure what your point is. Players using meta builds? Surely this is a good thing? Only some players but you see them everywhere? Are you talking about guildies?

unless you run the metabuild, you don’t seem to be able to keep up, to participate as much, and be as effective.

Keep up with whom? You may not do as much damage with a non-meta build or not heal as much but you should be able to keep up by pressing the forward button. Participation is on the 1 button and effectivenes.. well that’s the definition of the meta build. The most effective one. So this is a tautology.

That to me, sounds broken

Well no, to me you sound confused about what the meta is and why it is. I can log in with my meta build and play the game. It’s working.

@ General Health Sorry, but you have no idea what you’re talking about. Instead of answering this guy’s question, you just confused him by spitting random opinions at him and avoiding his actual questions. I’d rather you didn’t respond to any future questions in the manner that you answered this one.

1. Yes, a lot of builds are broken – and by broken, I mean they just don’t work well enough to be viable. Builds that, logically, should be viable are not. This is coming from an experienced GW1 player that made builds of his own for years.

2. Berserker is the only viable build (outside raids) and will always be the only viable build in PvE. That shows you right there how broken the mechanics are. There are tons of different armor types, yet choosing any armor aside from Berserker gear produces sub-par results.

3. I really don’t understand how someone can defend the mechanics and say, “Oh, it isn’t broken”, when players use berserker gear and only berserker gear. If it were meant to be so, there wouldn’t be other armor options. So, both the builds and the armor system are broken, yes.

My sinister and carrion warrior’s says “Hi”.

And my mixture of beserker, assassain, and clerics elementalist also says “Hi”. She also states that she can run full clerics and be successful, she just prefers the mixture to kill things quicker.

Keep in mind that the Summer Quarterly update is dropping soon. If ANet considers it a problem, they will fix it then. But they won’t punish anyone for taking advantage of an opportunity that they themselves created.

That’s the thing, they have punished players for taking advantage of opportunities that they created themselves. That’s the definition of an exploit. Taking advantage of a glitch or loophole in a game’s code.

And they have punished players for using exploits. Whether or not the effects of this glitch/loophole/whatever outweighs the effects punishing hundreds of players (and deciding whose abusing it vs not) is the question and my guess is, the latter is worse.

Guild Wars 2 - What happened?

I think it’s fair to say, even according to Google, opinions vary on Guild Wars 2. A load of comments on one YouTube video (which I haven’t actually watched because I’m always wary of people linking stuff in forums) doesn’t mean majority.

Opinions wary, but when 90% (and its probably even higher) comments are negative on video that is the most known advertising for gw2 then it doesn’t matter if it wary because it hard influences a lot of potential players – it becomes problem, a problem that is not fixed.
If you didn’t read comments then I can’t really take your answer for real I am sorry.

The problem is your source material is 6 years old and released 2 years before the game came out. Which severely reduces the number of post-launch comments. A better video would be a post-launch review by a famous YouTuber just after launch of the base game or just after launch of HoT. Not only that, but your video is not from ANet or NCSoft’s account which reduces the number of comments as well. Feedback for videos like this are more often than not given on the company’s official channels.

For me it’s good enough to know that suggestions and concerns are being read. The only way the poster can know this is if they respond or tag them in a way that becomes apparent to the poster. As someone that does computer support for a living I know fully well that canned responses are needed as a time saver and understand if they had to use them. I have had to use them in a number of jobs. They are much better than silence.

You may understand that. But there are good number that do not understand that that would say that canned responses aren’t good enough and would demand that they post non-canned responses.

There will also be players that take the response as it’s going to happen and happen soon and then yell at ANet a few patches later when the idea doesn’t come into fruition.

A Lack of Solo Content

MMOs are not one-player games.

No, MMOs are games where you can choose to play with other players than just soloing.

And other than raids, dungeons and fractals, the entire game is soloable so … not really a lack of content.

And with enough skill many dungeons and fractals are soloable.

As far as I’m called. This isn’t OMMO [Optional massively multiplayer online] game. Every time you managed to solo an instance, fractal, or dungeon. Arenanet will move the goalpost, and increase the difficulty slightly, or give your class a nerf to make it impossible to re-use that same build. If anything, they want to encourage the players to be working together in community. Not against each other.

On a relevant note, what are you attempting to accomplish by solo’ing content that requires an effort of a group.

Do you have any proof that they’ve changed difficulty of content or nerfed classes based on solo dungeon runs? Considering that fractals were released after dungeons and they can be soloed, I doubt ANet has any issues with players soloing content.

And did I say I ran them solo? No. But I’ll answer why some do: personal bests, wanting their success or failure to be completely on them and not others, etc.

Agree with the OP on this. Raids are content. Tiers are not a problem; they are a mechanism to allow more people to experience content. This is actually the acknowledged purpose of tiers in other games I play and I don’t see a problem with this. And, rather than arguing about how to do this just benchmark how it’s been done successfully. The answer is out there.

What works for one game doesn’t necessarily work for another. And I’d rather wait awhile before even considering changing raid difficulty either by nerds or by tiers. Who knows how easy raids will be in several months once everyone has learned the mechanics extremely well.

No, personally, I paid for one infinite gathering tool WITH the chance of sprockets. I saved up and bought gems to buy that item specifically for what it was , and what it did
I don’t have an issue with tool skins being added to the wardrobe. I do have an issue with functionality I paid specifically for, being removed, or having to be re-earned through a mastery system.

I’d say the pick and the mastery %’s should be additive.

That way ANet doesn’t lose a money source, but all players can get access to sprockets or tiny snowflakes or whatever without having to pay for it or wait for Wintersday to roll around.

And players who have Endless Gathering Tools don’t lose what they paid for.

Why has XP got to keep rewarding people? I really dont get this obsession with ‘wasted XP’. It’s not wasted XP, its just not relevant to you right now. As soon as new mastery tracks are added, it’ll be relevant again. Deal with it. I’ve had maxed masteries for months now and I honestly can’t see what people are obsessing about.

Giving more loot for doing PvE is just distasteful and causes even more imbalance between modes. The game mode which gets you the most gold/hr ratio out of all 3 game modes and you want more?

Because different people play games for different reasons. Maybe you find the game play fun and therefore the rewards are just icing on the cake and you don’t feel a need to progress in a game. But others find progression to be what makes the game fun and if they aren’t progressing towards anything, the game’s not fun anymore to them because it’s become pointless to kill enemies or craft items.

Like Group A says they want the Living World to have options like the original personal story does to aide with replayability. But Group B wants it like it is now for Living World so that they can get a much more rock solid story since ANet doesn’t have to come up with a wide number of slightly different stories.

Both can’t happen. How would your system account for that?

Most players can agree on what areas need more content. The problem is what content they want added and how they want it presented and in what order.

Technically, it’s not allowed, but really, nothing’s going to happen. Simply use a “do while pressed” macro with a ~50ms delay and tap the key.

Some use a mouse wheel to ‘double click’, as well as other methods.

The funny thing is, from ArenaNet’s perspective, there’s no way to tell the difference.

Depends on how the macro is set up. The macro would go every X seconds. Human scrolling would have different times between some of them due to how one operates a scroll wheel on a mouse, there would be a larger break between consumed drinks when the scrolling stopped due to repositioning of the finger.

Easy. Raids should have their own skin for the legendary armor earned there. Legendary armor earned through other means should have their own unique skins. That way you can tell who raids or who WvW’s or who open world PvE’s and potentially even who does a bit of everything.

ok guys, it’s just my own point of view you do’t have to agree with it.
It’s just that the attitude of wanting to stay exclusive bothers me in general. The same thing happened in the topic about the Tribal set and other things in the past too.
The attitude of “I don’t want people to get it, or get it with less effort than me, because then I’m less special”.

The tribal set isn’t exactly the same because it was impossible to get at all. In that case the people saying don’t bring it back were definitely being exclusive.

The people in this thread aren’t being exclusive. They’re saying it’s available and all you need to do to get it is to do the content that provides it.

Yea, as I recall, they just wanted the skin to return. Even if it was put on the PvP reward track since it was originally a PvP skin.

So I’m not really sure what your problem is as both of your stated issues aren’t problems that ANet can fix. Because I’d be furious if I changed my IP and did not have to jump through hoops.

I could “add” a lot of stuff, the idea is that is stupid.
Anet added auto loot and pet auto attack.
Being told you are doing something wrong when you are doing absolutely nothing the game itself does not allow, is STUPID.
If Anet thinks this is “bad behavior”, they should remove auto loot or pet auto attack.

You obviously do not know what the definition of exploit is as it pertains to MMO’s.

Exploit: using bugs or unintended side effects of a game to gain advantages that other players do not that the game developer did not intend to happen.

It should be expected to find out that AFK farming is an exploit.

I’m not too fond of WvW myself, so I’m arguing for a position that forces me to play a part of the game I’m not fond of myself.

Why?

The only reason I can understand that a person would do something that they don’t enjoy in a GAME is because they’re a masochist. Most people aren’t so Anet shouldn’t try to force people to do a type of content that they don’t enjoy.

Because I want the optional legendary weapon that comes from doing it. My desire for the legendary outweighs my dislike of WvW.

I have yet to find a game that I didn’t find something that I was not fond of that if I wanted to win the game or get some optional item I had to do it.

And legendary weapons are not required for any content in this game so ANet is not forcing you do to anything you do not want to do. You’re only forced to play WvW if you prefer one legendary skin over another. You can get a legendary weapon of your choice without playing WvW at all.

Ok, you’ve explained why you do things you don’t like but you haven’t explained why you are arguing that other people should also do things they don’t like.

And I’m aware that legendary weapons are not required, that’s why I said that Anet is “trying” to force people. They are holding up the best carrot and saying that you can’t get it unless you play the way we want you to play. Really sucks.

You asked me why I did it and that you could not understand how anyone who wasn’t a masochist could tolerate doing something in a game that they did not like.

I gave you a reason.

Here’s the reason why others should: Because ANet had decided that in order to get a legendary that you can show off in PvE and in WvW that you must play WvW in order to get it.

Considering that you can now use them in PvP, I would be fine with a Gift of Battle track being added to PvP so that players had a choice on which method to do.

I also would not have had any issue if they forced players to play PvP in order to get the new legendaries or to do precursor crafting for all of the existing legendaries as well as the new ones. And I hate PvP more than I hate WvW.

And players who do not wish to play WvW are still able to get a legendary. They just won’t be able to make one themselves. They can pay someone else via the Trading Post to get a legendary.

They handled the communication of this change poorly and therefore I feel that they should put the Gift of Battle back with the vendor for at least a couple patches if not longer. Because players had looked at the requirements to make it and how they could obtain the Gift of Battle and made a decision possibly months ago before the first communication on the issue happened on whether to buy or build and may now have tons of account bound items related to the legendary that they can’t do anything with because the legendary to them isn’t worth going into WvW for. That they may have been able to take care of had they had more notice via working more heavily on achievement points than farming T6 mats or working on map completion.

I don’t think they should add this back to a vendor, I think the reward track is fine. However, I do think the reward tracks in WvW need work, at least the one for the gift of battle shouldn’t require as much time in WvW.

However, I do think they need to add gift of battle back to a vendor for a temporary amount of time, like a week or two. It’s bs they came in and changed it without most of the community knowing they were going to change it. They should have sent players a mail announcing it was going to be changed a week or so before hand or added it to the loading screens like they add the PvP announcements. No, I’m not one of the players arguing this so I can buy a gift of battle with badges, I don’t have many badges right now nor do I need a gift of battle; but I do understand the complaint.

Since it wasn’t communicated very well that the option was being removed from the vendor, they should temporarily put them back on the vendor.

I don’t understand why a WvW item should be required for Legendary Weapons. That’s like requiring some PvP item to get Ascended items.

Legendary weapons are the top tier of all weapons, they’re not specifically WvW weapons.

When the game first came out you could only take legendary weapons into PvE and WvW. So ANet made it so you had to step foot into both areas to get a legendary. There is no buying your way out of map exploration and when the game first came out, you had to do the 4 WvW maps to get 100% map exploration for the Gift of Exploration. You also had to get 500 Badges of Honor to get the Gift of Battle. Which initially you had to actually play WvW to get as the Achievement Point chests weren’t in the game at launch.

The first change was allowing for Badges of Honor to drop from AP chests. This removed having actually play WvW from making a legendary. You could get exploration done without actually playing if you were patient.

Second change was to require you to get to Rank 14 in WvW to buy the Gift of Battle. This was again to try to get players to actually play WvW, but there are workarounds to buy your way through this (not as easily as before though).

Third change was, imo, an unintended side effect of a solution to a worse problem. When they added the new borderlands to WvW, they added way too much RNG to which maps players would get and so took the WvW maps off of map completion so that players wouldn’t be stuck at 99% through no fault of their own and no real way of predicting if next week would be any different. They did not do it to make it so you did not have to play WvW to get a legendary.

So in reality, they’re only changing it to be more like it was when the game launched: having to actually play WvW to make a legendary. And given most of the changes have been to increase player activity in WvW, I doubt they’ll reverse their decision any time soon.

You either have to grin and bear it if you want to make your legendary or if you want one of the HoT legendaries or you have to buy an original legendary off of the TP.

I’m not too fond of WvW myself, so I’m arguing for a position that forces me to play a part of the game I’m not fond of myself. As I’ll likely want to make another legendary at some point. I’ll actually probably have to play WvW more as I’ll find it easier to grind out WvW for dungeon tokens than trying to deal with a dungeon (dungeons aren’t my favorite part of the game either).

At the end of the day i and many others shouldnt have to play wvw this is my only thoughts on it i have played many MMOs over the years and i feel yes wvw does invite its own style and game play but its a side thing pvp in the same way there not the core game not saying there not part of it if even i would say there big enough that they should have there own weapons and armor myself i cant wvw and to do all my work for my legendary only to be forced to do wvw fishing against others i i feel its unfair.

You can get a legendary without playing any content you don’t want to. Save up gold and buy one off of the trading post.

And have you actually tried WvW?

If we earned enough badges in the past to buy multiple Badges of Honor, level 14 is not an issue.
The communication issue doesn’t affect the reason, but it does affect the statement.
For me and many others, the “Gift of Battle is to show that you have played WvW” but had to replay it again for the initial reward"

That’s your statement and it is correct. My statement is also still correct.

It was already a requirement to play WvW for the Gift of Battle. No change there.
The OP here suggests we only play PvE to get it, but leave the track in WvW.
So, no WvW required. I think we both disagree with that but I firmly believe part of what is driving this proposal is the effect of the poor communication.
Aside from the other tracks and rewards, the only significant change was the removal of the vendor that let ALL players spend their rewards earned in WvW, without actually ever saying when, in any patch notes ever.
For some of us, your last statement will be totally accurate when they replace the vendor temporarily, and not before. It’s not an attack on you or disagreement in what you are saying, it’s just more than that for some of us.

Actually you could bypass it.

With laurels and badges of honor you can buy WvW experience to get to Rank 14. With badges of honor coming via achievements and you can get laurels without playing WvW at all, it was entirely possible to bypass playing WvW and still get the Gift of Battle.

How does how well/badly they communicated the change affect the reason for the change? You have yet to give me any explanation of how that can occur. So until you do, I will repeat that my statement is currently accurate.

No thanks to putting the Gift of Battle behind a whole bunch of masteries that I do not want to complete and are not WvW related. It would be different if they were locked behind WvW related masteries. But Fractals aren’t WvW. Jumping Puzzles aren’t WvW. The open world bosses aren’t WvW.

If you don’t like WvW and can’t stomach it long enough to get the Gift of Battle, then you can still get a legendary. You just have to buy one off of the trading post.

Gift of Battle is to show that you have played WvW. Open World PvE is not WvW.

Your last sentence is not correct. The Gift of Battle is now to show that you have played WvW, earned the rewards you sought, lost those rewards when Anet hid the language on Legendary Weapon components in WvW patch notes, even though there was a Legendary section, and now you have to do it all again.
That is what it accurately shows.

What I said is correct.

Whether or not ANet handled the switch properly or not is entirely separate issue than one being discussed in this thread. FYI: I don’t think they handled it right and should have had the vendor still sell Gifts of Battle for BoH for at least 4 more weeks.

Yes, it may eventually be correct. The reason this thread is here though is to eliminate the need for playing WvW to get the Gift of Battle. That is partly desired because of how this was poorly communicated. I think we should be required to play some WvW for one Legendary component. If I want more, I will play WvW more.
They should temporarily replace the vendor and eliminate part of what is driving this threads discussion.

There is no eventually about it. It is currently correct. It was put in place to get players to play WvW to get the Gift of Battle if they want to make a legendary.

To me, the OP reads as if they just believe that WvW should be part of legendary creation since most of the creation of it is PvE related.

And no amount of better communication will change that. They could have put it in big flashing letters on top of loading screens starting one month prior to the change and made a forum thread to discuss it and it would not have changed the reason behind the change. They could have also not put it in the patch notes at all until the change went live and it would have still not changed the reason for the change.

The reason for the change and how well they communicated [or how badly in this case] the fact that it was changing are entirely separate.

This is plain dumb.
Sometimes I afk and my pet will protect my kitten in case some trash mob attacks me.
Because I have autoloot I might be tagged as a bot?
Just plain dumb and silly.

If you’re not in an area where mobs constantly spawn at, the chances are slim.

However, unless it’s an emergency that warrants you immediately leaving without doing anything, you can do things to ensure that you don’t get reported as potentially being a bot and then potentially banned for it:

1. Turn off autoloot in the options menu.
2. Waypointing to a city or other location that is widely known to not have enemies spawn (such as the waypoints near the map entrances/exits or dungeon entrances).
3. Exiting to the character select screen.
4. Shutting the game down.

3 & 4 are my favorite options as they are completely foolproof.

If it’s just a quick bathroom break, you’re likely not going to be found guilty of botting should anyone report you during your few minute break.

No, you can have more. You can tell yourself you aren’t going to play GW2 anymore and then not play it anymore. Even if GW2 is still installed on your computer and even if you aren’t banned.

You’re asking ANet to permaban you so that you do not have to control yourself.

I don’t think any of you even understand what VIP in an mmorpg even means, you don’t get a tag in your name people wont know unless you tell them and no if won’t divide the community because people do that anyways if they have legendaries, so it won’t nake a bit of difference if they get perks for being VIP, stop jumping to assumptions, sometines I think this is one if the nost emotionally unstable communities I’ve seen atleast lately.

Personally I don’t care if they do VIP or not but don’t spread mis information of things you don’t understand.

The thing is, we were advertised that this game would have no subscription.

Between the benefits listed in the first thread and the fact that those players would likely include several who play for hours on end it will quickly become financially different between the VIP players and the non-VIP players. The magic find boost would have to be on top of the max MF boost as a LOT of players have maxed that out. That means higher chances at great drops including precursors.

Waypoint fees are a gold sink, which means that if enough players become subscribers, ANet has to put more gold sinks into the game that all players would get hit by in order to keep inflation from happening too quickly. This means that VIP players remain at current gold sink levels while players who do not become VIP get hurt because they experience more gold sinks.

Increased gathering rate means they make more per hour and the ones who gather a lot will then sell their mats and potentially tank the markets and then cause ANet to put in place corrective actions that penalize the non-VIP players because ANet has to balance on the VIP players being able to gather mats quicker.

THAT’s one of the major problems players have with a VIP system. In order to make them worth it for players to get, you have to give them an advantage and the ones posted have a great potential of actually hurting the players who do not become a VIP in the long run.

The scecret worlds vip isnt that much better then the base, it doesnt mean they have to do it here, and they still get plenty of vips, my point is people still wouldnt know unless you play them allot and notice how they are getting drops better then you. And it wasnt my idea to increase mf anyways.

The difference becomes when they sell those drops or salvage them as better drops means less junk. And more rares and more exotics which puts more ectos on the market.

The long term effects of the advantages posted by the OP and for any VIP program that would actually be worth it for an MMORPG are negative for the players who do not become a VIP member.

The Secret World is not an MMORPG, the effects of a VIP program are different in other genres.

Again your not making sense considering you can already pay to do most of this anyways, its only negative If you look at it that way and the secret world is an mmorpg, I doubt you have played much of it.

That’s because you’re continuing to ignore the long term consequences of players constantly getting better drops, not participating in a major gold sink for the game, among other things.

There’s already an optional subscription available. It’s called make a reminder on your phone for the first of the month to pay ANet $10 or $15 for gems. Then hold onto them or convert them to gold. To buy whatever you want. Not get a list of things that ANet chooses for you.

Playing heal support not enjoyable

The problem is to make heal support more viable in open world PvE you have to reduce the survivability of solo players who prefer other play styles. Because this game is designed around avoiding damage and not healing damage taken. Dodges, blocks, evades, blinds, reflects, aegis, etc.

Personally, I like being able to play by myself without having to worry as much about my health than I already do. Because I prefer to play primarily DPS.

First I will say that I have a tendency to die because I ran off a cliff that was a bit too high. Gliders will definitely help with that.

I also only have 1 of each class. I’ve got a Revenant, but I used tomes of knowledge to level her and she’s only done city mapping so far so she hasn’t gone into battle.

Mesmer: 53 hours 16 minutes / 22 deaths = 0.41 deaths/hour
Guardian: 70 hours 2 minutes / 61 deaths = 0.87 deaths/hour
Ranger: 79 hours 40 minutes / 70 deaths = 0.88 deaths/hour
Warrior: 189 hours 18 minutes / 252 deaths = 1.3312 deaths/hour
Elementalist: 806 hours 26 minutes / 1,074 deaths = 1.3317 deaths/hour (highest deaths/hour but only slightly.

Total I’ve been playing for 1198 hours 42 minutes, died 1479 times, for a deaths/hour of 1.23 deaths/hour.

I should note that Guild Wars 2 is my very first MMO and I have a tendency to run off cliffs that are just too high just to see if I can make it. Which I mostly did on my Elementalist. My Elementalist also got to continuously die in Personal Story instances as I slowly killed off enemies that I had when I aggroed too many of them… there were a couple of them where I ended up with completely destroyed armor… And that was before repairing was made free.

And of the 5 characters, the Mesmer is the only one that hasn’t finished her personal story. The Elementalist and Warrior have done 100% map completion when it included WvW (I didn’t die more than a handful of times while running toward objectives).

Deaths/hour is likely higher since that time includes time spent idling not doing anything, which I have a tendency to do. Especially on my Elementalist.

The time out is a technical limitation.

Remember: the trading post we see covers all players on EU and on NA servers.

Imagine what would happen if too many players batch sold things on the trading post at roughly the same time. We may end up with a non-working or very very laggy trading post like we had when the game first launched.
