How to show new players that I'm a veteran?

I don’t think you can call yourself a veteran simply by age of account alone. The fact that you aren’t lvl 80 means you haven’t experienced a whole bunch of content, whereas a guy with a 6 month old account might have a lot more tangible experience than you have.

Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about it. Like people said, doubt anyone really cares that much.

CttB vs Golem

Shifu.4321

Seriously, the only good elites are lich and plague. The golem is sometimes useful for being a meat shield. The shout seems awful in PVE and will never see its full potential in sPVP.

On the contrary – lich form can be a big hindrance in a few situations, particularly when enemies have reflects, and plague form is terrible if you aren’t a condi spec. the Golem may not always be the best choice, but it’s far from useless, and it has consistent, decent damage.

You don’t take plague form for the condi damage, you take it for the blinds and the chill if you traited for it. Very useful vs zergs.

For WvW at least, necros are probably the single most important class in the “Battleship” meta. They ARE the damage in group fighting due to their area denial and their massive AoE damage. Eles have fewer consistent AoE damage options and cannot be relied on to do bulk damage in WvW. They are also the most consistent source of stability stripping that prevents frontlines from going “balls-deep”. So they perform dual roles of area denial and aoe + stability and boon stripping via marks and wells.

With few necros, melee trains would just roll over any large sized group, and damage wouldn’t be enough to bring them down. I’d even say it’s because of necros that this new meta emerged. In GvG, they act as the main “snipers” of the pick team. They’re the ones who bring down important targets like enemy eles and the other pick team.

About “You are all weaklings”… I assume you can cast it even while stunned and the cast time will go through? Because it has no use as a stunbreak if you can’t.

I could see that shout being useful in some situations because it’s the shortest CD stunbreak we have (all the others are around 50sec+). Might be useful in melee.

“Nothing can save you” can also be useful, since its an AoE boon strip with a short CD.

Stunbreak =/= stability if your casted stunbreak gets interrupted it goes into full cooldown.

I know that. What I’m saying is that I’m assuming the stunbreak portion will either a) still go through the casting animation even while you’re stunned or b) activate instantly regardless of whether the shout itself pushes through or not similar to well of power (since you would likely use it while stunned).

Meet: The Reaper
- That was suppose to be for The Necromancer Profession
——————————————————————————————————————-

I Am Very Disappointed!!

Why? Is this what a reaper is? With a Great sword? and with chill Element?

Is not Chill Element belong to Elementalist Profession? What connection/relationship does communicating with the dead and raising the dead spirits have with an element?
Absolutely~ Nothing!!

So all of sudden: a necromancer profession become a element focus?

What connection/relationship does reaper have with great sword? Absolutely-Nothing?

Reaper: “A reaper is a farming tool or person that reaps (cuts and gathers) crops at harvest, when they are ripe. – Hand reaping is done by various means, including plucking the ears of grains directly by hand, cutting the grain stalks with a sickle, cutting them with a scythe, or with a later type of scythe called a cradle”

I do not see great sword as a reaper farming tool: where is it?

Last:

First it was Guardian Profession: Dragon Hunter which make Absolute No Sense! with its profession role, Now it is Necromancer Profession: Reaper which make same Absolute No Sense! with its profession role..

I feel Arena net is refusing to innovate the Guardian Profession and the Necromancer Profession into something more meaningful and wonderful.

The 3 things you primarily need to survive as a frontline fighter:

1) Energy sigil
2) Enough stability to get through the initial push
3) A commander smart enough to know when to push and when to pull back.

I’ve survived the frontlines as a half soldier/half zerker hammer/gs guard, a hammer warrior wearing full zerker with no endure pain and as a power wells necro, so it shouldn’t be THAT hard to live.

The main weakness is that you actually need to be whacking away at something in order to keep your sustain up, unlike warrior who has a perma regen with signet and guardian, who has multiple ways of healing up (dodge roll, staff 4, AH, etc.).

That makes you very susceptible to kiting, and with only 1 dash found in the shroud skill, you still need to pick your fights carefully.

I’ve been thinking about a Reaper in full Valkyrie gear for frontline zerging.

Reaper: Relentless Pursuit, Decimate Defenses and Blighter’s Boon.
Soul Reaping: Unyielding Blast, Vital Persistence and Death Perception.

You’ll be tanky and still get off really high damage because of Death Perception and Decimate Defenses boosting your crit chance.

The 3rd trait line really would be up to preference. I’ve not decided on utilities for this either.

I’ve also thought about condi build with Dhuumfire and Deathly Chill, but I’ve not developed that idea very far yet.

000666 probably for frontline zerging. You need as much sustain as you can to survive the frontlines, and blood magic has the most sustain out of the trait lines. Valkyrie or Knights (or zerker/soldier mix) can probably be used. Hoelbrak or Trooper for condi clearing.

Chill is the Reaper’s thing. He isn’t the biggest damager, has slow attacks, gives little support, but he can chill out the kitten . Remove that part, and you’re basically neutering the Reaper.

Also, consider that you’ll probably spend 30-40% of the time in shroud, removing your main source of chill.

What is the mainhand Dagger's role now?

in Necromancer

Shifu.4321

For all intents and purposes we could assume that the autoattack is stronger. In this situation we’d mirror Guardians who use their leap->spin->symbol->AA->spin swap Sword autoattack and repeat.

In this situation we could just as easily use our gap closer, use our burst damage attacks and swap to Dagger + Horn/Focus instead of just camping Greatsword

I never understood the swap in the guardian here. The sword and the GS has the same casting time both takes 1 1/2 sec to complete the chain. But with GS you get an stack of might. Unless you have some sigil on weapon swap i fail to see the utility.

Right now the necro weapon sucks. If GS has a very long casting times will render that weapon useless because would depend to much in the target being immobilized.
the only way this could work if is chill applies Slow on enemies, so they casting times increase and by that they can’t dodge/interrupt our casting if they are on melee range.

So i could say the dagger will keep it’s rol just yet. Lets see what Anet bring us with the Reaper.

Well first, the autoattack damage of sword and gs are similar, but the third attack in the chain favors the sword, which has higher coefficients (1.5 vs 1.2 on the GS), thus the sword is marginally higher damage on AA.

sw/focus also gives defensive utility via blinds (2 vs 1 in GS), projectile blocking and a 3-hit block. Not to mention focus 5 is very good damage.

However, where the sword really shines is via traits. GS gets a trait that increases damage by 5%, compared to sword which gets a trait which increases damage by 10% AND gets a trait which increases critical chance by 15%.

Sure, when you look at both sword and GS AA in a vacuum, they might seem comparable, but when you include the traits and the offhand skills, switching to sword for AA is much preferable to camping GS.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

Shifu.4321

I really support OP in his opinion. I’m really getting tired of people constantly asking me to provide PS & banners as a warrior, might as an ele or reflects as a guardian.

The “Zerk Link Gear” and “meta” are completely cancerous to GW2 and I think ANet should work in a direction to close the equipment gap between Berserker stats and the rest of the available choices.

As every other player I want to enjoy the content of the game without constantly being pushed in a given direction by a bunch of self-confident kittens who believe they know a lot about the game, proper builds, “meta” and runs and whatnot and think they’re better than all of us because they “speedclear”. As an ele, I want to play a healer and I will play it this way, I don’t care if your LFG was “Zerk”, you don’t have the power to tell me how to play the game.

I’m also sick of “stack here, put reflects” and all that crap. Because all those “zerkers” can’t survive for 10 seconds straight without stacking and putting up reflects that make all bosses suicide pretty much. Real players who have a good tanking and healing capability know how to deal with any situation without exploiting the game via stacking, reflecting or blinding the enemy.

Is this some kind of satire?

Blinding and reflecting are exploits? Players with good tanking and healing capability can deal with any situation?

I… I don’t know what to say.

Personally, I’ll try Zeal, Honor and DH with Hammer/LB or GS (depending on which offers better damage). As for traits, I’ll definitely get the virtues one, especially the one that adds 15% damage with VoJ.

Main weapon will now be hammer for the 20% more damage while standing in symbols. So we’re looking at least 45% damage modifiers with hammer (honor is primarily for long lasting symbols.)

Conditions have always been largely ineffective against zergs due to the massive amounts of condition cleansing they possess. Combined with minus condi duration food, you’d be lucky to land 2 seconds of conditions on even a pug zerg.

This is of course assuming that condition damage and cleansing mechanics remain the same in HoT.

Chrono vs DHunter: Who gained the most?

in Guardian

Posted by: Shifu.4321

Shifu.4321

to be honest I think the traps will be game breaking/changing for t1 WvW and will most like see some kind of nerf before release. Zergs already have a large composition of Guardians and if they’re all dropping traps left-right-and-centre it’ll be pretty insane. ( a dozen 6-8k dmg spike traps parked behind a gate? – you have to run through both edges ).

If we’re lucky it’ll stop mindless zerging and promote more careful tactics – forcing smaller suicide squads – if we’re unlucky it’ll be unmitigated chaos.

In other game modes they are fine however – and will probably see limited use.

That 6-8k damage will be reduced quite a significant amount when 3k+ armor frontline run over them. We already have a version of that with power necro wells, which can do comparable damage to low armor targets.

The advantage of necro wells is that they’re targetable when traited, which means you can drop them on the backline, where they’ll be most effective. You can also use them while kiting, or while fighting a running battle. They’re extremely versatile skills which can be used both offensively and defensively.

On the other hand, the main problem I see with traps is that they’re too situational. You need an obvious chokepoint and an enemy willing to go in guns blazing for them to be effective. In an open area where enemies can hit from multiple directions, you basically have to guess where they’re coming from. Setup time also means they’ll be ineffective during a running battle, which is probably 80% of WvW fights.

And with a loooong cooldown (almost 33% longer than your average well), this means that the enemy commander would just wait for the trap durations to end before pushing. Best case scenario, you get a chokepoint, an enemy who didn’t see the traps being planted, and a nice timely CC to get them right in the middle of the trap area. But I’d wager it won’t happen often.

The main use of staff is as a might stacker, a CC weapon via line of warding, and most importantly as a heal via empower. WvW guardians don’t take it because it has good damage, but they take it because it makes up a large part of the healing in zergs alongside water blasts and the added damage of might before a push.

Personally, I’d say that tanky frontline guards would still opt for the hammer or gs + staff over LB.

The problem with traps is that they’re highly situational. You either need an immobile fight or a chokepoint. If you remove the damage potential, you need shorter cooldowns (this is what I would have wanted). If you keep current CDs as is AND remove the damage, you’re looking at an objectively inferior version of necro wells with less (no?) range and longer cooldowns.

Traps are still going to be underwhelming.

in Guardian

Posted by: Shifu.4321

Shifu.4321

^ No different from wells then. You flank those traps, and they’re basically useless since they have a LOOONG cooldown. The traps’ biggest advantage is that they’re invisible, but in a highly mobile fight, you’d be playing a guessing game on where the enemy will come from, whereas wells are reactive skills that don’t require setup or windup.

They are inferior wells with less range, smaller AoE, longer cooldowns. Wells are true area denial, because they pulse and affect multiple enemies. These traps activate even on a single enemy, which means a single person walking on your trap disables one of your utilities for 45 seconds. Imagine a WvW groups situation. The frontline will eat up your traps, causing very little damage and even CC due to stability. A wells necro can just throw his wells onto the backline when they come within range.

And attaching 80% of a heal to the condition that an enemy would walk over it is just asking to be killed. And it even has a long cooldown.

I’m reserving judgement, for the most part.

There have been calls for new weapons, and for existing weapons to be ported to other professions, almost since launch. So, what is the point of adding a weapon (new, or just new to the prof.) if it does not add options to that profession? What would the point be of adding options that the profession already has? Should additions to a profession not play and feel differently than the existing options? What did people expect from a guardian elite spec?

+1 to xinskspillx. Paragon would certainly have made sense lore-wise.

Personally, I felt that the chronomancer was perfect. They expanded on the class, added new mechanics and skills that fit in with the theme, without fundamentally changing how the class is played (sneaky dueler who can melee or range).

I feel it should be a variation of a certain flavor (Cherry Coke to Regular Coke) more than playing differently. The DH feels more like Sprite to the Guardian’s Coke.

I’m still shocked at how upset people get over a name and appearances. It’s like being mad that you get a red car for a present and you wanted a blue car instead. Its a free car?!?! Who cares what color it is?

The name has no impact on how the class works and plays….form before function for some I guess?

Both yes and no. The game is not only about optimal mechanics but also about immersion, fancy graphics, magnificent music, roleplaying etc. Then you get such a silly spec as dragonhunter I am not surprised there’s a roar. This spec feels totally disconnected (with its theme) from original guardian as it can be. Again, warrior or ranger as dragon hunter feel okay, but guardian? seriously?

I feel this is at the crux of the problem. The chronomancer seems like a natural evolution (or sidevolution of you insist that elite specs should be alternatives rather than upgrades). The Dragonhunter is too disconnected from the base guardian, and from what’s been revealed so far, very little of the original class remains for people who love guardians.

Of course, I’m making quite a number of assumptions here, but where’s the fun in not assuming? What I’m hoping is that the traits for this spec focuses more on the “changed” virtues rather than the other stuff, so people can still keep a semblance of their base guardian when speccing into the DH line.
