Best build for new Guard?

For questing/levelling a good build can be a mix of damage and defence.
Something like that can be good:

For armor, use something like berserker mixed whit knight, to increase your damage. For levelling you don’t need high defence. Meditations can help you to survive, the same for GS trait.
If you want, you can reduce Zeal by 10 and put it on Honor, to obtain healing symbols, or make symbols last longer.

That’s not a final build, just a build good to reach the cap level. At 80 you can chose a build that you like.
(support or tank. just someone try berserker, but if you want to go berserker, a warrior is a better choice)

Spirit Weapons not transparent

Spirit weapons will be fixed in the next big patch, coming up in april, whit some other “big” changes on skills and traits.
one of the changes is probably the target of the bow, that become a Target AoE skill, and you can chose the position.
For the hammer, the skill knock down the enemy. If you’ve no enemy in target for the AI there’s no enemy. The hammer is not an auto seeking weapon and can’t find the enemy by itself.
I hope the shield will be ferixed to follow you while move, because actually is hard to use it well, expecially in wvsw. Abd the skill… I don’t know. We can hope it become a Target AoE, but all depends on ANet decisions.

And, more important, there’s the possibility that they chose to make Spirit Weapons Immune to Direct Damage (but not to CC and Conditions). That can make us, little poor guardians, able to use for a build.
An useless build, but a build.

And if we’re lucky wi can find a new Spirit Weapon Elite Skill. A Spirit Staff Weapon that heal and inflict damage.

But everything is in ANet hands… we can only wait and hope.

More DPS, or some survival?

I play in support Guardian whit armor Soldier and weapons and jewels Knight (better the stat Precision + power + toughness in the ascended jewels, but knight work well). Trait 0/0/30/30/10. In Valor increase by trait my critical damage by 30%, increase toughness of me and my ally by 150 and I obtain 7% of toughness as Precision (increasing my critical chance) and obtain at Master Trait Altruistic Healing, the better way to obtain heal whitout be a full cleric healer whit symbols.
Whit Honor I obtain shout recharge, shout that clean conditions and every critical hit I give Might.
AH+good critical rate+ might at critical rate = 450 heal every sec just hitting the enemy. And increase my damage and the damage of my ally.
(in the next update that trait will be fixed to give might every critical hit, whit not cooldown of 1 sec. Know by rumors).

That’s a support/defensive build that give you the ability to heal and defend and the power and critical rate/damage to fight and deal damage to the enemy.

A) Change the skill 3 of the sword and make me able to hit the enemy whit the right range and whit all the skills hit.

B) Increase the speed of the scepter skill 1 (the orb), making me able to hit the enemy when it move.

C) Give to the Guardian some mote Combo Finisher. If I don’t use GS or Hammer, I’ve not finisher skills. Sword, Mace, Scepter, Staff and Shield don’t give me Combo Finisher, and the Focus skill 5 give me the Blast Finisher, but only if it don’t break. That make hard the choice of create a 1h build, if you’re not a healer build guardian.

"Save Yourselves!" and "Signet of Spite"

Why in Spvp the duration of Save Yourselves (Guardian) buffs is 5 sec and the duration of the conditions of Spite (Necro) is of 10 seconds?
One is a single skill that give you a large amount of buffs (not all) and one give to your enemy a large amount of conditions (not all).
Save make you harder to kill, Spite make you harder to be killed by that enemy.
Save make you more good in fight, Spite make one enemy unable to fight.
Save is a single shot skill that need to be traited to clean a condition and that make you acquire all the party members conditions (that is a good and a bad thing at once), Spite give you 180 Power in Passive Ability.

Then why only one of that skills has been nerfed?

Condition facts

Condition damage:
1) You apply it and yor condition deal damage wituout your action. You can use a skill to cover your enemy whit conditions (necro and engi can full an enemy of conditions in less than 5 sec) and then you can run, dodge, be blinded, stunned, knocked, confused, etc, and you deal damage anyway.
2) Conditions gives very good damage because there’s a lot of different conditons you can use. You can give 400 damage of burn + 300 of poison + 500 of bleed (whit a lot of stack) at the same time, in one second, whitout attack. 1200 at second easy to give, and if you use the auto attack deal 500+ damage (depend on the weapon and on the enemy armor). 1400-1700 damage every sec, easy to give whit the right build.
3) The enemy can clean your conditions, but you can apply conditions easy whitout all that problems, if you know how to play, and there’s a large amount of AoE condition damage Fields to use, that deal conditions damage or convert enemy boons in condiitons.
4) Almost all the weapons that give conditions = ranged weapons!
5) To max the condition damage you need ONLY ONE STAT!
6) BEST CONDITION DAMAGE EQUIPMENT IS A DEFENSIVE BUILD EQUPMENT!!!

Direct Damage:
1) If the enemy stun, blind, knock, block, evade, you can’t do damage. There’s nothing you can do to damage an enemy that block you. If the enemy hp drop he flee and you can’t do nohing to continue to deal damage. That’s why to kill a thief you need conditions damage: they flee in stealth but they continue to lose hp whit conditions and they die.
2) There’s a lot of classes that can obtain Protection, that reduce your damage dealt by 33%.
3) The best direct damage weapons is a melee weapon. you need to stop the enemy if you want to deal damage. If the enemy use stability and ranged weapons you’re in trouble. You need to use your utility to obtain skills that block the enemy, give you the chance to reach the enemy or that clean conditions (es cripple and chill). Or if you want to use a melee weapon in situations like wvsw… a bad choice.
4) To max your damage you need Power, Critical Chance and Critical Damage. 3 Stats!!!
5) Best direct damage build is a Berserker Build, that make you a glass cannon easy to kill. Dangerous, but very easy to kill.

Theres thousand posts of players that hate spvp because when they do tournaments they find n00bs that make them lose matches and matches.
Have you idea what would happen if we eliminate the tournaments?
All that “n00b” players whould come in tournaments.
And that’s not a good idea.

Hotjoin was been created for player that don’t know how to play in spvp.
They play hotjoin, learn how to play and then they go in tournaments.
It’s not the main rule of a large number of players that play tournaments at rank 3, but for a large amount of players that’s the reason why there’s the hotjoin.

Off-hand Sword Concept

I think that they must first fix the skill 3 of the sword XD
Off Hand sword like that is good but I think they don’t want to create skills like that.

1) your skill 4 grant movement. They DON’T WANT to make Guardian be good to move. A guardian (they think) must stay in a place and hold the area, and give buffs to ally to grant them the possibility to survive in that area. No more. That’s why there’s only 2 movement skills in all the skill list of the guardian.

2) guardian is a defensive healing mage-warrior. It’s been created to obtain healing by buffs and skills, and to obtain a large number of defensive buffs. They don’t want to make you obtain fury so easy, not on the guardian.

I hope that they listen to your idea, but they don’t. That’s a good idea for a warrior, but not for a guardian.

I think that they can like something like: (example)

skill 4: block one enemy attack (duration of possible block: 3 sec). If block an attack inflict damage and grant protection (or regen or blind the enemy) for 3 sec. Single target.
At last it can be an AoE skill, blast finisher, like the mace skill 3.

skill 5: grab an enemy to you and inflict low damage. range 900. (A single target skill similar to the GS skill 5)

That can become defensive like they want and you can obtain a skill to grab to you the enemy.

The Ultimate Pyroguard

The problem of the condition guardian is that you can only give Burn to the enemy.
Condition damagers class can use poison, bleeding and burning at the same time.
Ranger, engi and necro can give all that conditions at the same time (whit traits and skills). Burn can deal the same damage of Bleeding whit 5 stack. But the necro only whit the staff can mantain you always at 6-8 stack of bleeding, the thief at 8-10. The warrior can obtain a permanent 5-8 stack of bleeding whitout the elite skill.

But they use Poison, that is the really problem if you fight a condition dealer, because tour healing power is greatly reduced (33%) and the damage is almost 50% of burning.
Then they give you burning.

A guardian can be a CD+Sup class, but is better to use normal attacks than condition damage.

Your guardian deal 700 dmg at second (example).
A ranger/necro/engi can deal 700(burn)250(poison)800(bleeding) at second = 1750 at second.

You can Increase your condition power and your ability to give out burning, but you can’t reach the damage of a common condition damage class.

You can only help your dps a little by using condition damage, but no more.

Strongest 1v1 Class

All depend in what class you’re fighting. Thief can kill almost all classes, if the klayer know how to fight, but the guardian can resist longer.
If you use a warrior, I can kill you whit my guardian dps, why I know how to fight you.
A mesmer can kill well a single target enemy, but against a AoE class he lose all it’s clones and be easy to find and kill.
If you use a necro and find a warrior condi-remover (almost all the warriors actually in game), you have to be a good player to win.
If you find a class whit low capacity to remove conditions and you’re a condition damage class, you win. If not, you lose.

Actually the most valuate classes may have the necro mm, the warrior and the ranger spirit.

I play Guardian DPS whit meditations and win 50-70% of all 1vs1 that I do, because it’s a 1vs1 build.

At the end, the best 1vs1 class you can play is the class that you know better.

I catually use that build, for pve (dungeon and fractal).
I can defend well and heal whit shout, empower of the staff and every critical hit I give might and heal myself.

I’ve a lot of dps, just to help the party.

i like the sword+focus and be a support, but I hate when I don’t give damage. Whit that build I’ve a lot of damage and a good defence and support ability.

It’s a Hybrid, and there’s better build in game than mine, but I like this build.

Yes, passive skills can be a good chance to play whit only 6/7 button to push, but if you’re not a good player you can be a ranger or a necro, but the enemy kill you quickly.

There’s active and passive skills and builds, for every class.

Ranger spirit, Necro MM, Mesmer phantasm, Engi turret, Warrior banner, Thief signet/venom, Guardian Spirit Weapon, Ele signet+summon.

Every class has a build whit passive skills, but not all that builds work well in spvp, that’s right.

But the best necro isn’t the necro MM, the best ranger isn’t the spirit ranger, the best warrior isn’t the bunker.

Spirit Ranger and Necro MM can be defeated easy if you use AoE skills.

Minions hp si very low. If you destroy a ranger spirits you destroy all it’s strategy. The same for the necro.

Against a necro kill first the minion of the healing skill and then the elite minion, then kill the necro easy.

And a passive skill user is limited to weapon skills only. if you find the way to make he in danger he can’t do anithing to save himself because the lack of skills.

If you fight an active skills user, he can fight you in different situations and save himself if he’s in danger because of the variety of skills he can active.

Passive skills can be the great weakness of a build.

Guardian, because is very good for be a bunker and a supporter and if you want you can be a good dps class.
I like to be a hybrid in support and damage, heal and critical rate at the same time is very good.

In TsPvP i play it like a dps and is beaoutifull when a enemy attack you and then flee because you’re not a bunker and your damage is bigger than what he think XD

If you play TsPvP in solo you just need to prey, but it’s because TsPvP has been created for Team and not for solo players.
If you go in SsPvP, you must hope to find players that know how to play, yes.
But I’m a Guardian DPS and all the team scream behind me “why you’re not a bunker? You’re useless” ‘till the see me play and win against almost all classes XD
If you find a player that know how to play it’s class and build, you don’t need a “OP” class user, because you can find a better team member than a useless n00b that try to win whit a “OP” class and don’t know how to play.

I’ve see ele in Foefire whit berserker build and staff that hold the mid by a safe place up the rocks just becaus whit powerfull AoE attacks, and you can’t stay in the mid because you die.

You can find strange builds for pvp that work and make you win if the player know how to play.

But yes, if you find a team of n00bs, you lose XD

But that’s a “true story” in every game, guys.

Healing Power

The Guardian has been designed as a mageknight whit defensive ability.
A large amount of it’s skills and it’s Trait give you defensive buffs and healing, expecially healing.
Guardian has been designed as a Healer/Supporter in heavy armor. Low hp (like ele and thief) but high healing ability.
At the top you can heal by 1500+hp at second whitout the main healing skill.
You heal whit passive Virtue (you can increase it’s healing power), you heal whit regen, rune of dolyak, by sigils and by giving buffs to ally. That’s the main bunker spec.

BUT no one want you in PvE or Dungeon if you’re a bunker. Exept for some dungeons or high levels of Fractal, the bunker build in PvE il useless.
Not enough support to compensate the lack of damage. Is good if you survive longer, and sometimes a good bunker can save the situation, but actually there’s not all that number of dungeons or situations where you need a bunker.

In PvE is better a dps, or a hybrid.

In PvP (sPvP or WvsWvsW) is different.
in PvP you fight to hold bases, to survive longer than your enemy and to keep your ally alive under an arrow rain.
Whit a bunker spec you can stand under the door of a fortress and use the ram whitout problem. When your heal drop, leave the ram, spam 2 shout, use the skill 2 of the mace to obtain regen and healing and you’re ready to use the ram again.
In TsPvP a bunker is very appreciate, expecially if you’re the only one in the team. You can hold the point and support your ally whit a large amount of useful skills.

At the end:
Healing power is very good for PvP and for some situations in PvE. But for normal PvE or common dungeons is better hit hard.

you can try the Meditation build, that grant you healing when you need and let you be a dps whitout problems in Trait and build.

Whit your build I see only 23% critical rate and you’re not able to obtain fury.

I agree whit Ludus.
There’s only 2 class that can’t obtain passive speed buff: Guardian and Engi. But engi can obtain permanente swiftness.

Whit more speed you can escape from your enemy or follow your group easy.

Yes, actually if you play guardian you Must play support bunker.
I play guardian berserker and I win some fight in 1vs1, but I can not say that the dps guardian is aviable, not like necro, engi, ranger or other classes that give very high damage, and whit semi bunker builds.

That nerf can damage the CD necros just a little, making them more viable to fight.

I use the example of SY because is a skill that is equivalent in power to SP

Save Yourselves give “all” the boons (stability excluse) for 10 seconds, but you carry on all the ally debuffs on yourself. It’s a powerfull skill, but whit high risk. You can use the build whit you clean 2 conditions but there’s a high risk to use that skill.

Signet of Spite give to the enemy “all” the conditions (whitout chill and burn) for 10 seconds, whitout risk. And is a signet that give you Power ‘till you active it.
The only risk appear if you don’t know when active it and the enemy dodge/block/miss your skill.

Why there’s 2 powerfull skills compared whit same value and one has a pvp duration of 10 seconds and the other has a pvp duration of 5 seconds?

There we need a balance.

10 seconds or 5 seconds. For both the skills.

I’ve try a berserker ele whit staff, 30/10/0/0/30, in TsPvP.
Foefire map.
Fire attunement, frostbow like utility.
Go up near the mid where no one can attack you in melee. Then spam AoE skills like a crazy rabbit into a cauldron!!!!
Swap in lightning attunement to AoE stun and in Water attunement for heal your team. Then bach in fire attunement to hit your enemy!
Whit fire AoE skills and frozen bow AoE skill, you can do more than 3.5k damage per second.

You’re in a place hard to find and you’re not killed by melee because they don’t hit you and you can attack them easy whit your AoE skills.

That build work well in Foefire an Temple map.

The only problem: you’re weak if the enemy find you and if the enemy do is better that you know how to run XD
But whit swiftness of the staff, AoE stun and mistform there’s not all that problems to run away.

What Ascended armor stats for guard?

Healing power is the base of the guardian main role. The guardian isn’t really a Bunker, it’s more like a Healer.
You survive more longer not because you’ve the highest hp of the game (why the guardian’s hp is the same amount of the ele… XD) or because your ability to reduce damage is highly than the other classes (you can see the warrior immunity to damage for 16 sec!!!).
You’re the best bunker because you’re a healer supporter!!!! :-D
Yes, that s***ks.

If you want to play it as a berserker you can obtain a very high damage, but if you want a very high damage you can play a warrior and deal the double of damage.
If you want a bunker class that resist and deal damage, play a warrior whit banners and axe+shield. Or a engi, or a necro.

The Idea of the Guardian is: a mageknight whit healing power and support ability.
Very low hp, very high healing ability and defensive support skills.

I play it in Soldier and I like it very much. But I’m not the guardian a party can desire. I’m only able to remove conditions and give some buffs, but I don’t use healing skills.

The perfect guardian is a bunker whit mace+focus/shield and staff, that heal itself whit simbols, virtues, regen, ally buffs and rune that give condi remove on shouts or regen.

You can play it like a mid-class, like a berserker, like a condition damager. But it’s best work is to keep allyes alive.

P.s. I’ve try a healing guardian in wvsw an I survive good in front of the doors and keeping my hp up whit a large amount of healing skills and ability.

If you like the guardian whit Soldier, make a guardian whit soldier equipment.
It’s your character. And everyone play different.

You’ve a large amount of possibility, but the guardian best is the healing spec whit cleric or similar equipment in a healer-bunker-supporter class.

If you focus a Warrior whit that signet and all the build up, you take the same or lesser time to kill it like if you try to kill a Guardian. No more.
If you don’t kill a warrior whit healing signet is because your dps is so low that you can’t kill anithing. Or because you’re not a dps, then you don’t need to kill it, youst survive, because you’re a bunker too.
If you play a condition class (like the 80% of the players) you can yust spam poison and kill it easy.
It take time aniway, because your enemy is a bunker!
If a warrior play that signet is because it’s a full defensive build, and half of it’s traits was spent on only one trait to increase the defence.
If you see a berserker or a hybrid warrior play it… you notice it because it’s death after… 3 seconds?

Whit that signet the warrior has low healt regen than a Guardian.

-Guardian regen:
Passive Virtue+Regen+heal at every buffs+healing Sigils+Rune. And if you active your healing skill you gain 4.5/8.5k of hp.
-Warrior rege:
Passive signet+Regen+Rune. And if you active your healing skill you gain 2k hp and lose a lot of your healing strategy.

That’s the 2 main bunker build of the game. If you pretend to kill them quickly… it’s better that your dps is very very high and full of poisoning skills.

Balance in a game that make you play a single class in every possible way (dps, condition, bunker, supporter, etc. in only one class at the same time) isn’t easy.
Yes, some skills make some classes to be “OP” but against some class build that “OP” skills or class don’t make a good work.
For example: a guardian bunker is the best class to hold a point against a dps enemy because the high number of skills that give block and protection. But isn’t the best bunker class against Condition enemy, because the guardian has low hp and depends on the healing, that is reduced by poison.
Another example: I’m a guardian berserker. I’m very good to hold base and fight 1vs1, but I’m bad in team fight like hold the mid, because I don’t give buffs or heal or combo fields to the team. Foe the mid play is better a support guardian, or a class that hit by AoE like Ele.
The Ele is a very good class. Try to use it in berserker whit staff, a build like 30/10/0/0/30 and whit the summoning skill of the frozen bow. Use lightning attunement skill 5 to stun the enemy in AoE and give combo field, then change in fire to hit whit a huge AoE of fire and a little AoE of lava, then summon the bow and hit whit 4, then change in water and heal your team. if you play in a safe spot you can do 3.5k dps, help the team whit heal, stun the enemy and give different combo fields. But if you pay it bad or whitout strategy or you fight in 1vs1… you die quickly and no more.

There’s a lot of spec and builds that give you the ability to fight in different situations and win against different kind of classes and builds.
That is a very hard situation to make a class/role balance.
In the other games there’s only one or two ways to play a class, or limitations in subclasses or other ways to reduce the number of possible builds. Then they need only to make some fix and the class is ok. There’s not that chance. You fix a OP thief class and make necro able to play in pvp. Then you fin that necros in party can make a teamwork that you can’t win against them because they play in combofields and combinations of different condition damage and builds. Then you make them a little less powerfull in damage, but if you don’t make them better in something else you’re again whit a unplayable class.
If you try to make dps classes lesser OP, reduce the speed of quickness to make warriors unable to oneshot the enemy in 2 sec. But the result is that a warrior is no more the best dps class in the game and no one play it. Then you make it more hard to kill, but now you’ve a unkillable warrior whit 12 sec of invulnerability to direct damage (shield skill, stance, stance at 20% hp and the new healing skill) and 8 sec of highly reduced condition duration.

That is a game very hard to balance.

Then, about the players that leave the game after 2 min… ANet can’t do anything. They can only make Dishonor to be applied more frequently, but no more.
If a player go afk, crush, log-out, or is a n00b… ANet can’t do anything about that.

Why the ele has no place in spvp

I’ve try to make an ele, make a casual dps build whit staff, go in tournament whit no more games like a ele, find a place where rangeds can’t hit me easy and melee can’t hit me (in Temple and Foefire is easy to find a place like that near the mid point).
Then AoE spam of skill 5 of staff+fire element, skill 5 of light element, healing AoE if needed, and frosen arrow skill 4.
I can do 3.5k damage at second in AoE whitout be attacked by the enemy.

Whit that build you can hold the mid in 2, bunker or thief + you, easy. You stay away hitting whit AoE and the bunker hold the point.
I win the match easy whit a casual team.

That’s a casual build, but don’t say the ele isn’t a good class.
I’ve try it 2-3 time, allways the same result. Very good dps, aoe for everyone and if you play whit strategy you can’t die so easy.
(at last, you’ve mist form, swiftness and auto activating barrier that block 3 attacks to run away and survive)

If a good ele play a build like that I need to kill he quickly because he’s dps is aoe and very very high.
(I’ve try a build 30/10/0/0/30 full berserker whit staff)

Ele isn't useless. It's powerfull.

To all the players that say “ele is useless” I say “you play it bad!!!”.
The dps power of the ele is very high and you can survive well.
Try that:
Staff and berserker build.
Foefire map (or Temple map).
Use teleport to go where the enemy can’t hit you melee and you’re hard to hit by ranged (isn’t alla that problem, if you know a little the map and use the teleport to go wherever you want).
Then shoot at the enemy by a safe place where you’re hard to hit.
You can do a very high damage, be unkillable and whit a bunker or a thief you can hold the mid easy just because the enemy don’t hit you.
If you kill ranger and necro first, your work is so easy that a noob can do it. Just kill everything by the distance.

If you don’t find a way to kill the enemy, find a way to make you unkillable!
It’s strategy, no more.

That strategy can’t win always and is weak against ranged, but whit only 2 utility skills (teleport and mistform) you become unkillable and can run away easy if the enemy is near to kill you.

I like guardian, I play it in offensive mode. For pve I play a hybrid, half Soldier, half Knight, whit runes that give me critical damage, build meditation, whit sword+focus and scepter+torch. Good to deal damage, good to survive. Not a support. If you’re in danger, you die, I survive XD
For spvp I play it in berserker build meditation, dps. It’s a very good build to kill the enemy. There’s a lot of player that think: a guardian? it’s a bunker! And they die quickly XD It’s funny.
Not the easy build to play, but a very good build if you know how use it. But if you use it wrong you die quickly.

There’s a lot of people that’s talking about a high % of lose ‘couse there’s a lot of new players in sPvP Tournaments.
I’ve try some tournaments today, after a lot of tine out of sPvP, to see that news about all that “n00b” players that make you lose all the tournaments.
My opinion:

1) There’s a lot of new players in sPvP that don’t know how to play, but a large amount of that players play GW2 in PvE and know the skills of the class they use and how to fight a common enemy player.
2) If you say them your rank (I’m 32) they listen to your indications and you can win.
3) If you’re not in a organized team and find a premade team, you can’t hope to win just because you’re a good player. They destroy you whit strategy. If you have low rank players in your team they can only do it more quickly.
4)There’s new players in every team. I’ve win a tournament whit 2 players 25+ and 2 players low rank (3 and 7), against a team of 4 player 20+ and a player 10-. The rank 3 was a PvE guardian that know how to play and survive. He play very good! And we win the match.
5) High rank don’t make you a perfect player. Sometimes is a proof that you’re a nerd, not a pro.
6) If you find a high rank player trying a new class/build, you can find a bad member, like if you find a low rank.
7) If you’re a good player in a team of 2/5 low rank players against a team of 2/5 low rank players (and in 10 match that’s one of the more frequently situation I’ve find), you Can make the Difference. I did win my team in one of that tournaments, giving indications and helping both attack and defence, holding base and giving support to my ally.
8) If you find a team of all low rank that don’t know what to do and die like flies… that’s the game. You can’t win every time and sometime you find a bad team, or you fight against good players, or a premade team, that kill you easy.

Yes, actually a premade group can win better because there’s a lot of newby spvp players and if you play as a casual tournament player you Must think that you can find some low rank players and lose.
You can’t pretend to find a perfect team everytime and win every match if you join solo in tournaments.

If you want to win every match, ask to your giuld if there’s someone that want to play some matches, or to your friends. You need only 2/3 other players to make a good team and win some matches whit casual players.

That’s my opinion.

It’s better than warrior’s skill, because if you add to that a good rune (es dolyak) and a good healing/bunker build you can heal for 2k+ every 3 sec.
If you play mantras you recharge for 3-4k+ every seconds.

Add it to mantra heal or bunker build and you find a new unkillable mesmer build!!!

Low Ranking shouldn't allow in Tourneys!

if you find a 20+ rank player trying a new class in your team party, you may desire to find a rank 8 player that know how to use it’s class.
The rank can be a good chance to know if a player know how to do a tournament, but there’s a large amount of bad players high ranked.
For example, I’m rank 32, but for work I’ve not play for mounths. If you find me in party, you may desire a low rank player more than me XD

You’re not in 5vs4, you’re in 5vs5. But your 5° player log out. Then you’re f*****d.
ANet can’t do anything if players log-out or crash.
ANet can only kick afk players during normal matches, but no more.
But if you join a tpvp match and log out or leave the match for X times, you receive a debuff that unable you to join pvp matches for 48+ hours. That’s all they can do.

Why does the game allow 4v5 matches?

It happens because players join pvp tournament matches and then log out.
The match start when there’s all the players and don’t allow the change of group members.
If players log-out is not the fault of ANet, it is the fault of players. ANet can’t force the players to stay and fight if they log-out.
But if you leave more than X matches you receive a debuff that make you unable to join PvP matches for 48+ hours. ANet can’t do more than that.

At last, a guardian can be a good dps.
The Guardian is one of the best healing class of the game and can survive where other classes can’t.

Sword.
I love swords -
And swords skills need a little love fix, to improve the damage or the ability. Butit’s a very good weapon.
I mix it whit focus to obtain a blind effect that grant me what I need to dodge/block/miss 9 or more attacks.

I play as a DPS (whit my guardian) and I kill a lot of enemy. But play that kind of build is difficult, more than use a necro. AoE condition spam, fear, sigil and you’re death. Too easy to don’t play it as a meta class/build.
Ranger too is a very good condition dealer. I play ranger condition at the begin of the game, whit a very very bad build (the first pve I’ve done XD) and I was able to kill a melee enemy easy.
Then all the player follow the warrior in the burst way. Then all follow the ele in midbunker way, then all follow the necro in the condition build.
It’s just a phase.
If you see, there’s a large amount of condition class, but there’s a large amount of warrior, guardian, thief, mesmer, that don’t play as a condition dealer.
The condition damage can be the better way to win easy, today, but there’s a large number of class that don’t play that meta.

Guardian are bad at 1v1

I play GS and Sword+Focus. GS to high AoE damage (skill 2), CC and mobility. Sword for mobility (and, at last, the skill 2 to inflict damage and block ranged skills) and high damage and critical chance, whit focus to increase the blind ability, clean conditions and block attacks+inflict damage.
I don’t use ranged because I don’t like the scepter in pvp. Easy to evade, the auto attack and the skill 2 can be evaded easy and the range of the skills 2 is very small.

I’ve changed a little by my full berserker build to obtain a little more survavibility by the use of vigor to recharge my energy and the energy sigil. I’ve lose 10% of the damage to increase my survavibility. You can change the sigils and use the fire sigil, that deal damage on critical hit, and change the 10 points in Honor trait whit 10 points in Zeal trait.

I play the guardian in Berserker, for sPvP (expecially TsPvP).
My role: hold the base. I hold the base all the time. And I kill almost all the enemy that come to me.
They come frequently one by one, because they can’t spent two players to catch a point easy to re-obtain for the enemy.

In 1vs1 I can kill mesmer, warrior, thief, ele, guardian and some ranger, necro or engi that don’t play at the top.
Yes, I can kill 5 class on 8, in 1vs1.
The, if the enemy is a very good player, I can’t pretend to win all the time, but frequently in tournament I win against that 5 classes.

That’s why I’ve a good build and why the enemy don’t know how to fight a berserker guardian. now there’s a lot of berserker guardians in tournament, because is a very good class. But if you see a guardian holding a point you don’t think it’s a berserker. Then you attack me easy and I give you hit of 2000 and skills of 8000 XD

It’s a build hard to use, but if you know how to use it, you can fight very well in 1vs1.

A guardian isn’t only a bunker that can’t give damage. A guardian can kill a large number of enemy.
Today I’ve killed alone 2 thief at once XD

Change spec from a bunker to a dps isn’t easy, but try the berserker build, if you want to go in 1vs1. You can do it great.

Mesmer Moa skill

Moa form can be evaded, dodjed, can miss by Blind use or be blocked. But ues, is the powerfull skill in the game. Because make you unable to fight or broke it. You can only use the skill 5 to run away. The moa form can make you able to fight, but… you don’t know the skills, when you became a moa you need 2-3 seconds to think “kitten, I’m a F**** bird! Now what’s the skill to escape and what’s the skill to fight?” Then you’re dead.
And yes, the sword skill is the best 1h weapon skill ever. It make you able to hit the enemy, inflict a very high damage (more than 4k whit berserker equip, expecially in spvp), and the enemy can’t hit you for 2.5 sec and the execution time is of 0.5 sec!!!
Ok, you skill for the duration of 1/2 second and obtain 2 sec while you’re Immune to the enemy attacks. And whit a recharge of 12 (lesser whit the trait!). And it’s a buff, then if you’ve a equip that increase boon duration you can extend it (not shure about it)
Whit that 2 skills a mesmer that know how to use it’s pg can become very hard to kill. just whit 2 skills.

I think they must reduce the duration of the Moa form to 6 sec and the Blurry effect of the sword skill 2 can be reduced to 1.5 sec.

Then you can fight it.

Dps Guard > Bunker Guard

DPS Guardian isn’t the best for a team play situation.
The best for fight in team is the Bunker whit shouts.
But DPS Guardian can be useful to hold a point or to do isolated action like steal the enemy camp, all things that a bunker guardian can’t do very well.
The reason is one: a dps guardian can kill, a bunker guardian can’t.
To defend a point like the base you need only one player. When I play tounaments I play Guardian Berserker and I hold the base. That’s becouse you frequently fight in 1vs1. If you’re a dps you can kill the enemy. If you’re a bunker you only survive a little longer, but you die and give the point to the enemy. you’re already in 5, why spent 2 player to hold a point that a single dps guardian can hold?
Dps guardian isn’t the classic version of the guardian and your enemy when see you think that you’re a bunker and play like you’re a bunker. That make you in advantage because they don’t pay attention to defend and you can attack them whit your high damage easy. Before the enemy see that you’re a dps he’s at 50% hp. or, in case of class like mesmer or thief or ele, at 1/3 or downed.

But yes, if you want to fight in team you need to be a bunker, because the low hp and defence of the dps build can make you die fast in fight of 3vs3 or 4vs4 if the enemy focus on you thinking you’re the tank.

DPS anD BUNKER make 2 different role, expecially in TsPvP.

But if you see there’s even more new DPS Guardians. That’s because a good dps guardian can really kill a large number of different classes in 1vs1. And it’s GS AoE (skill 2) can be very good in fight of 4vs4 to decrease the hp of more than 1 enemy by 5-7k in lesser than one second.

Two build, two game play. That’s all.

The fuss about Condi > DD

One of the problems of the condition build is that to reach the top damage whit conditions you need only 1 stat = Condition Damage.
To reach the top DD power, you need 3 stat = power, precision, critical damage.

A Condition build obtain power, condition damage and vitality and it’s at it’s top damage. But whit higi hp! (or precision, condition, toughness, but it’s the same result)
A DD build need a berserker equip to reach the top damage. Very high damage, but zero defence. Low Hp, low Toughness, too easy to kill.
You can try to use a Knight, obtaining high vitality/toughness (sPvP and PvE/WvsW), but you lose a high amount of damage and don’t reach the damage of the conditions.

And a DD need to hit the enemy to deal damage, a CD can run away, use defensive skills, evade, while the enemy die.

And whit condition Fields you can make combos that increase your condition spam ability.

Conditions give some good bonus. Poison reduce the enemy healing ability, chill don’t deal damage but reduce movement and increase skill recharge, burn deal a very high damage (2k in 3 sec) etc.

You can apply different conditions at the enemy and it suffer for every of it at the same time. Whit Burning, Poison and 10 stack of Bleedins, a player can lose 5k hp in 3 sec, or more.

Conditions damage is not affected by defensive boons or ability. They can be cleaned, but at limited number and rate of time. And for a CD class isn’t difficult re-apply bleed, burn and poison.
Direct Damage suffer passive ability like signet, or boons like Protection, that reduce the damage of 33%. And a 33% of damage reduction is a very high .
A Guardian can reduce the direct damage of 43
just by signet and protection.

That make Conditions a more good choice for pvp than direct damage, if your class can do it well. Because not all the classes can do it well. Only Necro, Ranger, Engi, Thief and Mesmer can do it well. War, Guardian and ele can’t reach the CD power of the other classes. That’s the only reason they’ve the best DD of the game.

New Sword Idea for Condition Damage

Why don’t make the Sword the Condition Damage Weapon of the Guardian?
It’s already one of the condition build weapon because whit it’s quickly and kitten attack chain (1+1+3) can apply Burning faster than the other weapons.
ANet can add Bleeding to it!

1) Add it at Sword Wave (the 3° skill of the chain). Every hit make the enemy bleed for 5 seconds. Damage reduced (just a little) and Bleeding whit every hit. 3 hit in uno skill = 3 Stack of 5 sec. Bleeding.

2) Add 3 stack of Bleeding (5 sec. duration) at Flashing Blade, to increase the very low damage of the skill.
OR add a 1 sec Daze, to make it useful to stop the enemy while it’s running away

3) Add Bleeding to Zealot’s Defence. Increase it’s Cooldown to 18 sec. Every hit make the enemy Bleed for 5 seconds.

That, whit the Torch in off-hand, can make the Sword the new Condition Weapon of the Guardian!

Warrior’s Sword already make the enemy Bleed, why don’t add it to the Guardian’s Sword?

That can make the Guardian a Good Condition Damage Dealer, creating a New Condition Build.

Trait Idea: Burning Vengeance

A new condition to apply can be interesting, but torment isn’t in line whit the guardian style.
Bleed can be good.

Guardian can deal damage whit conditions whit burning, the powerfull damage condition of the game. But only one condition isn’t the right way to be a condition class.

Add bleeding can be a good idea, but not torment.
Or add bleed to a weapon skill. Different weapons in auto attack gives bleeding, why a guardian can’t obtain a skill like it?

For example, the Sword auto attack chain n°3 can deal a little lesser damage but give bleeding whit every shot. 3 shot at time, 3 bleeding of 5 sec duration each.
The same for the skill 3 of the Sword, that hit the enemy at distance (sometimes and only at very low range…) and block damage. They can give a little more Cooldown but add bleeding.
Bleeding + Burning can make the Sword of the Guardian a good weapon!
And a Guardian whit Sword+Torch cah be the new Condition Build!

A Guardian can use a condition damage build, but isn’t good.
You can use the Radiant line to increase conditio ndamage, obtain the torch trait that decrease torch recharge and increase burning duration of 20%.
30% condition duration by trait + 20% of the torch trait + 15-20% of rune + 10% of sigil. You can increase the burning duration of 80%.
Then in Virtues you can obtain to apply burning every 4 attack and make it an AoE burning skill.

Yes, if you do all that you lose all your defensive ability, but you obtain a good damage. And the burn is the powerfull damaging condition of the game.

But yes, it’s only one condition.

Mesmer, necro and ranger win on conditions because they give to the enemy fire, bleed and poison at the same time.

That’s why the guardian can be a good Condition Damage Dealer, but not the best.

Dps Guard > Bunker Guard

I use a DPS guardian and I can kill half of the class of that game in 1vs1 (except for the very very very good players).
I play TsPvP and always protect the base, never go in middle or play in team (if there’s no need).
I play Berserker whit a build 10-30-30-0-0 (meditation build), weapon: GS and Sword+Focus.
Now I’ve chose to change in a build a lot lesser DPS, but still powerfull. 0-30-30-10-0, to obtain perma vigor and obtain 7 sec retalation when aegis fall off.

I’ve 2 condition remover, shelter to heal and block enemy attacks, 3 meditation to heal me, GS, sword and meditation skill to move to the enemy and deal damage, very high burst damage and 15k hp.

I can kill thief, mesmer, ele, guardian and war, then sometimes I can kill engi and necro. Ranger only if they use a dps build or I take them close to me. If the ranger play too much ranged I’ve difficult to hit XD

I lose against high condition damage dealer. That’s because they can mix up easy very high damage and high defence. An’d I’m a little weak to conditions (only 14-15k of hp).

I’ve 2 cleanse skills and don’t use boons. That’s a choice, because whit no boons mesmers and necros can’t change it into conditions or steal it from me.

It’s na very good DPS build. I’ve not a program to register videos, but I can try to download one and make a little video to put on youtube and post there.

Condition Damage > Direct Damage

Actually there’s, in sPvP, only class that use conditions. That’s why condition damage is better than direct damage.

__Condition damage:

-Condition’s not affected by defensive skills that reduces damage (trait, sigils and protection) but only afflicted by a low number of rune or a warrior utility.
-You don’t need to use a full offensive equipment. You’ve the Best condition damage and a very high defence (vitality or toughnes) and attack (power or precision)
-High perform of Fields and Combos
-You can spam conditions whit attacks, trait and sigil
-You can flee, use healing skills, defensive skills, dodge, while the enemy die slowly
-There’s a large numer of conditions whit ever better ability. (poison decrease enemy hp heal, cripple decrease speed and movement skill range, chill decrease movement and increase skil lrecharge rate, burning give very high damage, bleed can stack ‘till 25 and give very high damage, confusion make you hit yourself)
-If your stunned, dazed or feared you conditions give damage to the enemy
-You can apply conditions fast and deal high damage, even if the enemy clean it away
-Many skills grant you to convert enemy boons in conditions
-You can use a skill that don’t give condition on a field to give condition damage
-The most powerfull weapon to give condition damage is always a ranged weapon.

-But yes, conditions can be cleaned, sometimes

__Direct Damage:

-You can give high burst damage
-You can use direct damage whit every class
-You can focuse your ability to increase critical damage
-A large number of direct damage skills grant movement ability
-You can use a field to obtain a combo
-Some skills grant to convert conditions in boons

-You need a full offensive build to reach the top damage and drop your defensive stats to use berserker
-You need to hit the enemy to deal damage
-You can’t defend and give damage at the same time (some skills make you block and stryke back but isn’t the same thing)
-If you’re stunned, dazed or feared, you don’t deal damage to your enemy
-Trait, utility and boons can highly reduce your damage (till 45% in passive+boon like guardians or mesmer)
-The best weapon to give direct damage is always a melee weapon (except for Ranger)

Now… what do you chose to kill your enemy? Condition Damage or Direct Damage?

How do you deal with Mesmers and Thieves?

In sPvP I kill every thief I find (only a great thief can make me problems) and I kill almost all the mesmer I find on my way.
Build 10-30-30-0-0 Berserker whit Meditations.
GS and Sword+Focus.
You block the fisrts attacks whit skill 5 of the focus, switch in GS, skill 5, grab it to you, skill 2, skill 3 and it’s at 1/3 of hp. Then swap to sword, skill 2, skill 3 while they try to flee. Then it’s only your ability don’t make them flee.
The same for mesmers.
If they use a defensive build, it’s only a little longer, but the way is the same.

You can heal your hp whit meditations, use the shelter to heal and block enemy attacks, and clean conditions whit the meditations.
And you’ve a very high DPS.
What do you want more to kill a thief?

If you’re in spvp you can change your trait before go in match, in pve you need to find a master/trainer.
WoW and other games like Rift do it, but there’s not that option. if you want to change, you need to go to find a trainer. it’s a GW2 developers choice.

Build 10-30-30-0-0 vhit berserker and meditations. Good for sPvP and good for pve or dungeons like CoF. If you go in more difficult dungeon, mix it whit a knight or whit a soldier, to increase your defence.
Weapons for spvp: GS and Sword+Focus.
Weapon for pve: the same or GS and Scepter+Torch.

High damage, good healing skills.

If you go in CoF, you can go whit berserker and do great, if you go in fractal 40 you need to be the bunker/supporter for the healt of the party.
I’ve a build 10-30-30-0-0 whit armor Soldier and weapons and trinket knight. A build based on 1h weapons. And do great!
Isn’t a supporter, but if I need I can change in weapon and trinket cleric, mace+focus/shield and be the tank of the group, whitout problems.

There’s a lot of build that can be good in dungeon, you only need to try to make your own.
