Zergs already move with about half a dozen people cast swiftness circles and shouts. this really isn`t going to make the difference you think it would since you can`t attack while mounted.

It would reinforce keep battles even quicker.

How annoying are those huge WvsW maps that you have to WALK through to get back to where you were. Atleast toss some mounts there.

Just what WvW needs, zerging that’s MORE efficient, and a few people gave you a thumbs up to your post too sigh

Get your broomstick from the gemstore, there’s your mount.

If there ever would be mounts in the game why couldn`t they just be normal mounts? Why couldn`t I ride whatever mount I had in whatever zone I liked? Why couldn`t my mount travel with me? Why would mounts have to be area specific? Why wouldn`t I be able to summon my mount? I can`t really think of any gamebreaking reasons to have those limitations in place.

You obviously put some thought into the activities you mentioned. But you put like zero thought into all the limitations and didn`t even bother listing why the limitation would need to be in place. Looks like you just want them for mini events and puzzles instead of actual functionality. I have nothing against mini events and puzzles but I`d take a functional mount over mini games and puzzles any day.

The OP had some ideas and then you offered this.

I’m not trying to pick on your post as such but just highlight the problem that will occur with a proper introduction of mounts.

The problem being the “CREEP” factor.

People won’t be happy with just A mount. It will turn into “OMGZ I paid 1 million gold for this mount and you won’t even give me (insert random bonus). ANET you don’t get it, why you always do things SO wrong!”

Or something to that effect.

The five stages of grief: WvW and sPvP

If sPvP was more about fighting and less about capping points, I would play it…

the best way to get points is capping, hence capping is a valuable commodity, and because of this, there are ALWAYS fights.

ALWAYS is a poor description. As you said it’s about capping, therefore your priority isn’t to engage, the priority is to cap first, fight second. In this context fighting is a bi-product of capping.

You can cap without fighting.

‘We want each character to have a unique experience in WvW’, this statement makes me laugh. You spec into the most useful lines first, like siege bunker, guard leech/fortitude lines etc. Then somewhere down the track you spec into oil mastery…. you focus on filling the same lines over and over on your different toons.

Unofficial Leveling Server

in Players Helping Players

I made a post similar to this about 2 months after release.

My idea was to have one server that PvE was done on, with perhaps your default server becoming the ‘overflow’ server if the map was full due to events etc. Given that most areas were sparsely populated even so soon after release, it seemed like a good way to populate the maps.

In any event it didn’t happen and I doubt now that it ever will. Perhaps you should elect an unofficial leveling server and see if it gets any momentum behind it.

Alternatively I would simply recommend TC, i guest there sometimes just because your more likely to have one of those ‘WTH’ moments while your questing.

WvW: how to make ruins-capping rewarding

in Suggestions

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

My only concern with rewards is if the incentive is great enough it would encourage zerging in the area. Any increase in reward would increase this possibility.

While an increase in numbers in the ruins is not unwelcome I wouldn’t like it if it suddenly became zerg territory. Ruins is a beautifully crafted area and potentially offers more in the way of interesting small group fights. To date the zerg usually runs past ruins and avoids it.

Having said that the ruins largely feels like a waste of time on ANet’s behalf at this stage. Even on tier 1 servers you don’t see many people in the ruins. Most comments in map chat are that ruins helped break down the efficiency of zergs on map, but you could have done that by sticking a big wall in the middle of it…

TP flipping is the best way to make money in game. Good TP flippers talk about having multiple legendaries and deciding if they can be bothered to make another.

I sit on 10K+ AP with about 3000hrs played and no legendary. That’s fine as it was a conscious choice given precursors are issued through blind luck, grinding or TP flipping, none of which seems particularly ‘legenadry’.

In any event I am awaiting on crafting a precursor. While that doesn’t seem particularly legendary either, at least it’s directly related to playing a direct aspect of the game. Not reduced to being an expert of niche elements like TP flipping.

WvW and PvP will net you nothing and PvE adventuring will fail you (grinding works though).

Players should be encouraged to go off and have adventures. Not have toons idle in LA while you shift through spreadsheets.

Is it bugged?

in Living World

SoPP.7034

Anyone else do this?

When you get to a piece of LS content that doesn’t seem to advance as you expected (if at all?) is one of your first thoughts, is it bugged? Recently I been doing this a lot with the 2 week LS roll out.

I usually give myself a couple days before I try the new content, so that other people get hit by the bugs first and it gets fixed, however I’ve still been hit with a few bugs in my time. More recently having to repeat TM W1Z2 again because AP didn’t update (I didn’t stand IN the chest?).

I guess buggy content wouldn’t be such a problem if it wasn’t TIME GATED. Because they insist on it being temporary I’m left having to repeat something again or walk away and perhaps lose the achievement despite my initial hard work. The fact I may have to do something again is irritating enough, without it having to be done again almost immediately.

It just seems silly that they insist on this temporary 2 week content, because it enhances the bugs and imo makes us focus on them more because we usually repeat the content almost immediately (within 2 weeks). Some of my biggest ‘challenges’ in this game is coming from glitchy content.

I know they’re looking to make things more permanent but still. I’m not sure if anyone else has been feeling this recently, but I’ve been increasingly reminded of ‘The Lost Shores’ event and what that was like.

In order to receive the zone completion achievement, you must meet the following prerequisites:

-In the Mode you want the achievement for
-Near the Zone chest (inside it is your safest bet)
-Present when the timer runs out in the top right of the screen
-Not in Moto Hell

So if you missed the achievement you have to do it again immediately (before the content is removed), HOPE it will recognise the achievement next time, rather than take a breather, take a moment to accept that developers have THEIR own way to get the achievements and come back when we feel like it?

As someone who has tried to invest in the constant updates it has gotten to stage, for me at least, where it’s become overwhelming and I’ve decided it’s time to put the brakes on a little.

Interestingly this is in part because the hurried 2 week releases are so BUGGY that I’ve had to replay content to get an achievement that didn’t update.

Literally when something doesn’t update, I’m left contemplating do I REALLY want to go back at do this again? ‘Portal closures’ comes to mind where they had you doing 13/13 closures ( Just checked to find they’d changed it to 5/5) I sat on 11/13 for AGES and resented having to play back through content KNOWING if I didn’t do it now I would miss out forever.

Maybe I could stomach it more if I could come back to it a month later. If it remained permanent at least they would be in a better position to remove the bugs. As of now it’s impossible and I for one have decided to let the LS go, because it’s not worth the aggravation.

Tribulation Mode + latency issues?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

My ping sits around 300ms as an Oceanic player.

As an oceanic player I’ve learnt to adjust to the latency. Taking ‘pauses’ to allow the server to catch up with me solves most the problems (don’t get me started on how stupid that is for Sanctum Sprint). In any event I can manage most of it.

However I have issues around objectives that are timed and are required to respond to immediately once they are triggered.

Thumping Rocks and Exploding lily’s are tied directly to latency and therefore are my biggest issue. Exploding lily’s require a jumping ‘tap’ to negotiation many of them successfully in succession. Unfortunately under latency a ‘tap’ takes much longer than is necessary and usually results in death. It’s almost impossible to complete during prime hours and I usually just throw lives at it until i can overcome it once the latency Gods favour me. Thumping rocks are similar but because they usually occur over solid land i can do a combination of jumps/dodge/dodge+jumps to negate the latency.

What concerns me is that once threat locations are memorised the real challenge then is over timed threats and it concerns me they will emphasise this more in future updates of SAB.

This was similar to the Liadri fights where I would get clipped by visions or still be inside AoE. Just like you mention for SAB, on my screen I would appear to be safe and out side of AoE range. Interestingly i saw many NA/EU players had complain about camera angles which to me was nothing compared to the latency.

I’ve already mentioned Sanctum Sprint. Trying to get first place was made insane by latency.

At the end of the day I don’t imagine there is much ANet can do, HOWEVER it is important for them to be sensitive to this issue, or they risk alienating anyone who doesn’t live on top of a server.

Either that or give us the Oceanic server we asked for.

LS system is "burning" even great players.

in Living World

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

I sit on 10k+ AP.

I can confirm however that it’s not an indicator of being a good player, at this high or higher players tend to be good at ‘farming’ AP and not necessarily good at the game, but I digress.

The content comes thick and fast now and I am now one of those ‘burnt out’ players. I know the exact moment it happened too.

I was at 11/13 for Scarlett portal closures. No tracking system and a bugged reward system meant I had missed two. I was lucky to have narrowed it down to 5 missed, but still…… Many, many many, MANY hours later i achieved the last 2 (going idle in LA, hoping my zone would pop, missing the zone i needed by 2 mins), but at what cost?

Sure I could have walked away, but to get to 11/13 and walk away seemed like such a waste at the time. The result of that is I now consider the LS content ‘tiring’. My dailies are the carrot on the stick but that’s it at the moment. I’ve started to remove myself from a lot of the content I previously enjoyed because of this ‘tiredness’ I now have towards the game.

I will be away for a few weeks soon. In that time I am hoping for perspective. I don’t want to quit the game, but feeling tired playing the game is not what a game should be about either.

There is a feeling and I sense it too in this thread that the LS content is a treadmill/tick-list of items to be done, that as players we have to think differently about the game to avoid being burnt out. We need to follow the new content outside of the AP achievements. However ANet places a lot of emphasis on AP (recognition, rewards) so players, as you would expect, gravitate towards it.

ANet numbers may be great, because player hours and log on times are up. But what about the long term aspects?

However, that doesn’t mean they won’t push the boundaries of it. The infinite coin is seen by some as an example of such.

Our responsibility as consumers is to remind them of our concerns. ANet aren’t insensitive to that and they will see people have raised questions regarding this.

P2W doesn’t have to be breached per say, one is allowed to raise concerns before it becomes an irretrievable issue, and one simply quits, as you said yourself.

I liked SAB and I will play this one but my attitude has changed recently too. That particular MOMENT was when I got stuck on 11/13 for the portal closures for a few days last LS.

The non-user friendliness, the monotony (the silliness?), made me realise a few things about LS.

SAB now has gone a direction I’m not particularly happy with. They really clamped down on the farming, making the runs account bound and concurrently alleviated some of those concerns by pushing you towards an infinite coin in the gemstore, while ramping the difficulty up on normal mode x 2 in World 2……. (save it for TA).

I’m not even sure I have a point….. I honestly feel it’s simply perhaps time to take a break for awhile.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

Picking and choosing your arguments out of context is certainly one way to go.

This is a unique approach too:

I assume that those wanting to get the SAB achievements including TM actually play the SAB.

You know your probably right.

Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

Mere hours after the release you have videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKyKyJzfjXM which should give you a good impression of players’ annoyance.

LOL! I love this vid, it captures the moment perfectly.

i’ll collect continue coins slowly casually from some characters parked at jumping puzzle chests (trolls end and sharkmaw cavern)

I’ll be interested to see if you try and successfully complete TM 1&2 with that strategy.

it certainly has nothing to do with “P2W”, given the fact that it’s optional content and you can even purchase the coin using ingame gold…

How is SAB optional to other content? It’s all optional, you can choose to do none of it by that standard.
Correction, the infinite coin is purchased with gems. You can use gold to purchase gems (assuming you have enough), just as you can use baubles that you saved up previously, instead of using an infinite coin (assuming you farmed a lot, assuming you saved them).

Your perspective is based on a number of assumptions.

I’m assuming your placing infinite coins into the fancy category, or would that be convenience?

pay to win what? all these content are still optional though.

All the content in the game is optional. I don’t even have to level my character, I could just sit in Queensdale all day.

^^^^ Just in case you missed his point the first time.

1. want something fancy
2. does not want something fancy

It was clearer to me when we would think about using gems to buy stuff that was cosmetic. Recently I see people using words like ‘convenience’ and now ‘fancy’ too.

you don’t need the infinite coin, not even in TM…

I won’t comment directly on that at this time, and imo neither should you. Have you tried TM?

In any event, it’s a line in the sand how many continues does one require to finish both worlds in TM? I’m not sure, but I believe it to be a lot.

Pay to win? No, since anyone can still buy it with gold.

Semantically speaking our understanding of P2W differs. Anything external to the game (gemstore) that requires investment in some form of finance to achieve something in game that’s directly related to gaming content (not just cosmetic) would be perceived by some as P2W.

There’s no way to achieve the infinite coin unless you use gems.

It’s the principal, while you feel ’it’s a good deal’, the application of the ‘infinite coin’ to other areas of content in the future is my primary concern now that we’ve seen it here.
