for pve anything works (swiftness, leaps, teleports and hard hitting burst attacks make you go trough it much faster)

for dungeons full zerker gear, vulnerability ,plenty of might stacking, fury, things that improve your teammates dps as well as stealth and reflection in some places is prefered.

PvP varies, depending on your class and on the game mode, check metabattle for the “most popular and optimal” builds for your class

WvW, same thing with pvp. It also depends if youre a scout, roaming, in a zerg or leading the zerg

not all projectiles are considered projectile finishers.
With that logic a elementalists chain lightning and fireball should also be considered as projectiles with projectile combo finishers.

and some projectiles are considered 100% projectile finishers.
(stoning, thiefs stealth pistol 1)

Guards projectiles from gs seems like some sort of energy. Something that isnt physical that could set itself on fire as it flies trough a fire field

this reminds me of the ability of Sylvaris druid
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon_Druid_Spirit

They also cast a skill thats almost indentical to binding blades.

“It is possible that multiple projectiles from the Thump ability hit the same target (only happens if there are at least 2 targets within the Druid’s range and a single target stands in the way for the other targets). If the requirements are met, a single foe can be struck by 5 projectiles.”

Why does Kindled Zeal exists?

in Guardian

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

We used to have only 2 grandmaster traits, the 3rd one (X III) was added later.

Amplified wrath is the extra added X III grandmaster trait.

So before that, Kindled Zeal was a option for those who wanted to go hybrid power/condi.

Most guards if they ever wish to go condi, or even hybrid condi they will try and main burning. So Amplified Wrath is the primary option.

One should improve Kindled Zeal, or offer more different conditions to the guardians kitten nal.

PvE Solo Spec Build ?

note that i ignored sigils, food, traits since i thought you asked for a leveling build. And i consider most characters that arent lvl 80 yet dont have all major traits unlocked and work just fine with random gear they pick up.

In PvE any build works just fine. However having lots of power, critting often as well as having some sort of permanent movement boost will get you trough the content faster (im assuming thats what you want?)

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQJARWlsApUoVDxQI8DNBAAYNqDuA-TxBEgAGKB1V+xq+TnOgx9HAM/ZqJAA-e

for exploring and leveling i would go with something like this.

great sword allows you to burst all the trash mobs you encounter 99% of the time, staff offers lots of tagging , swiftness as well as some cc.

the minor traits you have with this build will help you become a bit defensive (heals on dodge, gain vigor when you crit, the ability to spam virtue of justice to blind people around you) as well as more offensive (applying constant vulnerability, extra dmg on foes with conditions, extra dmg when not full endurance, the ability to spam virtue of justice for extra burn dmg ect)

Runes of centaur are pretty cheep, and in my oppinion its one of the best leveling runes out there. Specially for classes that dont have some sort of permanent movement boost.

You get a nice chunk in power boost to kill things faster but also increase of your swiftness duration for your symbol of swiftness and retreat skill. This will get you to places fasters.

About the stats on the armor and trinkets. While im not saying you MUST go full glass cannon, i am saying that if youre looking for a faster way to lvl up and clear zones having mixed gear that offers power and precision is a good way to kill stuff, and swiftness is a great way to get to the next group of killing.

Incomplete stability change

Vukorep.3081

well…the way i see it general pve nobody rly cares if you have stability or not (at least not in most situations curently)

In pve people will still counter stability with boon strips rather than trying to perform numerous cc on the target so nothing seem to change there.

as for zerks in wvw, well, things might be more interesting seeing how random zerklings get to fly all around the field. Might change some builds with more defensive sort of skils/stats…and i see nothing wrong with that.

People will adapt, they need to adapt. whats wrong with that?

this is exactly what i was questioning my self yesturday

i was saving gold since last wintersday for a precursor to create sunrise for my guardian.
Then when hot was announced i decided that i would keep saving more and more money and wait to see what the new legendaries are all about.

I didnt want to make sunrise and find out that there is a “sunrise 2.0” in hot thats bettter.

but not i decided that im better off with spending all my money on perfecting (stats as well as skins) of all my armor and all my weapons.

And so i decided to go for some special rare very expensive skins for several weapons instead of going for a legendary.

Frustrated with inventory system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

i never really had any problems with my inventory.

while some of my characters do use extra 3 bag slots, i still manage just fine with the basic bag slots you are given.

I use 2 invisible bags on my bottom bag list that contain all the things i wish to keep with me at all times. Things like extra armor set, food, boosters, geodes, pristine fractal relics, fun items like that wintersday bell ect.

The other bags contain all the random loot im getting.
Whenever it fills up i salvage all the things, deposit all materials and compact the remaining items….it takes about 5 seconds to do all that.

Now, after playing for a long time your material bank will fill up, and your mats will stay inside your inventory even if you click “deposit all”.

I fixed this by creating my own guild and unlocking guild banks. When i notice my main bank is full of mats, i transfer those mats into my guild bank. From that moment on i can continue to use the “deposit all materials” feature.

When does the fun begin?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

you can start having fun right now since you will be exploring the world, doing hearts and dynamic events, finding hidden treasure and jumping puzles form lvl 1-80

At lvl 80 you will most likely have all skills and minor traits available. Youll be able to join dungeons ,earn moneyz and get lvl 80 exotic gear and hunt down major traits /or buy them off whatevers more fun for you.

pvp is pvp, wvw is better with all traits and some deacent gear , there are also activities that are fun …again… some people see different things as fun.

The more you explore the world the more places you will “unlock” to quickly waypoint to. Such as tripple trouble event, tequatl event, guild missions ,dungeons and other megaboss events.

As for story…personally the story is ok, but the gameplay might be less ok.
Once you decide to unlock living world season 2 stories it gets better both in stories as well as combat and gameplay.

If youre looking for more pve challenges try orr or drytop and silverwastes.

Hello!

Vukorep.3081

welcome.

The elementalists are the most versatile class in the game when it comes to things you can do with your skills.

necromancers can also be quite versatile but only if they focus their gear, weapons, traits and utilities in 1 specific “role”

Then you have the 4 major aspects of the game that are extremely different from eachother.

You have your general PvE world that you will use to lvl up, “quest” and explore. Any class and any build you could possibly imagine works just fine here.
-To be “more” optimal while exploring try using things that give you more swiftness boon (a buff that increases your running speed by 33%)
-Aoe skills work great here, and specially if they hit hard

-Most of the mobs in this game are a push over, atacking you every now and then, unless they are champions.. then they hit like a truck. Learn to dodge.

The next aspect are dungeons.

The first dungeon you will find is going to be at lvl 30
Dungeons have 2 modes, story and explorable.

The first dungeon will have story mode at lvl 30, and explorable at lvl 35.

The majority of players only accept lvl 80 players with full Berserker gear (power precision ferocity). Dungeons work how they work…and the most optimal and fastest way of finishing them is going all full glass cannon (no matter what class)

Necromancers can also go full glass cannon, however while they do and because they are kinda solo class, they dont offer much for players around them. Also when they go full glass cannon they mostly tend to hit only 1 enemy.

The next aspect of the game is Structured PvP. You go to the pvp lobby, pick your pvp gear and skills and play arena style pvp matches for rewards and pvp ranks.
This aspect has 0 things to do with your pvE stats and gear.

The last aspect would be World vs World.
This consist of 4 maps, with 3 servers on them defending and claiming towers, keeps, supply camps and other structures.

There are really about 4 ways to play this mode :
-Being a commander: You go for full tanky mode ,tag up and lead a army of players to cap enemy structures
-Folowing a commander: You build for tough dps. You need to be able to deal dmg, use utility skills to help out your army around you and be strong enough to survive a fight against 50+more players.
-Roamer: Various builds, but the idea is that you are running around alone, fighting other roamers as well as capturing minor enemy camps
-Scout: Thieves are probably the best class for this cause of their stealth and mobility. They scout various places and notify their commander of enemy armies. They can also capture small enemy supply camps, as well as visit friendly keeps and towers to “refresh” siedge (since they dissapear after a while)

*Even tho WvW is considered pvp, it does count your pvE characters gear and stats. Tho you will be upscaled to lvl 80 automatically (but a lvl 80 with exotic gear will still have a advantage over your lvl 70 guy with exotic gear)

The most important thing to know is that each aspect of the game is different, and you will need to adapt your class to the aspect of the game you are playing (all classes can adapt one way or the other). If you dont..well..other “pro leet” players might not want you in their party (this mostly counts for dungeons and ranked pvp…like i said in general pve any build works)

yes its doable, most likely if you are in the front line groups rather than spaming/defending turrets

When i decided to get the achievement it took me 4 tequatls to get it(tho i was defending the turet twice)

just pay attention to the ground and what the asura announcer yells.

Another way to get it is if you join the 2nd or 3rd map with less people and less dps.
Normally ive seen tequatl cast his whirlpools after the burst phase (after we shoot it down with the megalaser and deal dmg to it) But the main maps usually have high dps and can make him instantly fly off to the next burn phase instead of fight us there with whirlpools

this is a nice web site that features all races, all gender wearing all armor sets.

it also includes stand alone armor such as starting lvl 1 head gear from specific professions and event armor.

On another note the best way to find your “perfect” armor set is to stand naked in front of a bank wardrobe and preview every single armor piece until you found your self a perfect combination.

When it comes to races humans, sylvari and norn use the same armor. the difference is that humans are “default”, sylvari can have a different skin color and they also glow in the dark (body and hair) and norn are a tall version of humans with some cool full body tattos and beards.

You might also check their 3 cultural armor sets (every race has access to all weapon skins) My human guardian uses hotw hat, pit fighter shoulders, t2 human cultural body armor, vigil pants and reinforced scale gloves/boots. If i was a sylvari or norn i would probably have a different body armor and perhaps depending on that piece i would change all others xD

Personal challenge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

I set upon some rules for my self that i will be spending my time with for a while seeing how i find my self in one of those more experienced players that already achieved almost all of their goals.

So heres the basics of the challenge.

1) New sylvari thief.

All of my characters are humans and i decided to try out something different and seeing how hyped everyone is with hot and some interesting things are going on with sylvari i decided to go with sylvari.

While i do have a lvl 80 thief i havent really played it that much (got it to lvl 80 and stoped).

Tho i did enjoy it very much as it was very refreshing to play a class that requires full attention from the player rather than what im used to (playing a almost invincible guardian spaming 1 on staff on everything)

Personally i think teef is a challenging class to play so i picked that one.

2) Limited WP usage

I will use WP only if these conditions are met:
-Any WP in the zone that is already 100% explored
-Any WP in my starting city (in my case the Grove)
-Use the asura gates to visit other cities and regions of the map
-Use any WP in other cities once fully explored

-If i die in a zone i either wait for someone to rez me or WP back to the first WP i unlocked in the zone until the zone has been 100% finished

3) Limited money
-Will hide my money in the guild bank and start off with 5 silver
-Will write down the amount of karma ,dungeon tokens and wvw badges.
(dont rly have fractal relics, and i dont think ill be using laurels on this character)

4) Equipment scavenger
-I wont be buying gear from the TP, no food and no sigils, runes ect
-I will be buying gear from the karma vendors such as the zones <3 events
-I will be buying gear from sylvari only cultural vendors
-Random gear will be sold on tp or salvaged. Will be used if rare or exotic

5) Leveling trough zones
I had a choice between going trough kryta-LA-mount maelstorm-orr , or trough the shiverpeak zones in order to have zones from lv 1-80 connected with eachother.

Since i like snow im going with the shiverpeak experience.

-When i start i will fully explore the grove
-Will travel to Hoelbrak and fully explore that city
-Will lvl from 1-80 in shiverpeaks only
-After exploring the zone 100%, before i move on to the next one i will do all JP, find all treasures and do all mini dungeons in the map

6) Things i will be doing when i hit lvl 80
-PvP (at least the daily stuff)
-WvW (at least the daily stuff)
-Hunting all my traits
-Exploring the other regions of the world based on their levels
(will finish all lvl 15 zones before ,moving on to lvl 25 zones)
-To prevent my self from simply blazing trough all the zones in full exotic zerker armor, i will equip my self with NPC gear which level is the highest of the zone.
(In lvl 1-15 queensdale i will be using lvl 15 gear)
-Gear can be upgraded from karma vendors

7) Personal and Living story
-I will be parts of personal stories after i finish completing exploring parts of the world
(I will explore all lvl 1-15 zones before i can do the 1-19 personal story line)

-I will be doing Living story after i finish my personal story line

Anyway if you have any suggestions leave a comment

PLEASE make condition builds USEFUL in PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

ive tested some professions (not all) with condition builds (in general pve) and ive come to several conslusions.

1) Its best NOT to go full condi

Its actually pretty good to have a mix of 2 combo stats to make the “perfect” balance with your specific class.

On the classes ive played (warrior s/s Lb and ranger shortbow) ive noticed that the best damage stats would be rampager (Precision power condi)

Not only do you often crit this way and deal pure dmg your condi dmg will be pretty high up there as well. Combined crits + steady condi ticks = great dmg

+ Common crits can trigger “on crit” effects such as applying additional burst damage or a different kind of condition that your profession isnt able to apply by them self

2) Condi builds are best used on veterans, elites and champions

“trash” mobs die fairly quick in this game and you will most likely kill it faster with your crits than you could stack your bleeds high enough to make any difference.

however seeing 2000+ bleed ticks (and then theres 300-400 poison and 600-900 burning and torment) along with your frequent crits on a champion really does make a difference between a "hybrid " condi and pure zerker.

Having condi ticks on the mob also means you will still be doing damage even when you are dodging form hard attacks and backing off to heal up. With a pure zerker set up you will deal 0 damage in that period of time.

3) The major problem of condi builds- They are best used in small scale fights, up to 5 players party style.

Even tho having 1 rampager condi player in a 5 man party dungeon (or fighting a hard champion in the pve world) is pretty great, the reality kicks in.

The reality is that the rampager condi player wont be able to fully use his build cause :
- You have to stack in a corner in dungeons, rangers cant flank with a shortbow to apply bleeds
- A champion in pve world will most likely be attacked by 20 other players that will just apply their own weak conditions over your own.

And thats the major reason why condi builds arent viable. They are for solo/up to 5 man viable…but in a game where the WHOLE WORLD is one giant party….yeah

PVP and WVW are a whole different story.

Personally the way i look at the game is that every class has tools that they can apply in any situation.

There are different aspects of the game that require you to adapt and change your build to their specific situations:

-Pve world: Anything works here… tho having burst dmg vs trash mobs, perma swiftness and some sort of leaps and teleports is great since it lets you travel faster.

-Dungeons: They work how they work….while they can be finished even if everyone goes full clerics, they cant also be done in full zerker. And people just prefer to do them as fast as possible

-PvP: Each profession has several viable builds that lets them play in a specific position and fill up a specific role in their team. However how the player plays that build is what makes the difference (im looking at you courtyard map…and all of you players that go full pve in there and just mash buttons to aoe everything..)

-WvW: Its either command, follow commander, roam or scout. If you dont have the build that allows you to do those thing you will have a hard time running back when you get killed almost instantly

full zerker with bursty skills +lots of swiftness and leaps, teleports abilities to move around the map quickly and kill stuff quickly will get you the world completion faster (or you could go with whatever build you like and enjoy the scenery, anything works in pve)

As for getting gold i suggest 3 things:

1) Daily dungeon runs: Join a guild that has daily dungeon runs, or start them your self. You will get a nice chunk of gold if you do speed clears+you can sell the loot for extra gold

2) boss events: tequatl gives 2 gold+ a bunch of rares that sell for 25-35 s average(or you can salvage it for ecto). Other bosses also drop a couple of rares and its not that hard to “do them all” once per day

3) “play the tp”: if you know what you are doing you will get a steady income by doing nothing, day and night.

is ele better now?

id say in some ways yes.
But deffinently yes when it comes to players who learned all the nice tricks a ele can do

Why should I be Elementalist

in Elementalist

Posted by: Vukorep.3081

Vukorep.3081

ive played both guards and ele for a looong time. so heres my 2 cents on both of them.

lets start with ele :

Yes they are squishy in most situations, however in those squishy situations they make up for it with their utility, mobility, and tons of aoe dmg(as mentioned before) If you spend some time with the class youll learn how to avoid and mitigate damage with your healing abilities (raw healing, passive regen, boon regen, condi clenses, blast finisher on water heals ect)

In most cases you will need to switch from attunement to attunement but there are some builds that could be extremely good by simply siting in 1 attunement all the time (along with using utilities)
Such as siting in fire attunement for permanent aoe fire fields, spamming fireballs and casting meteor shower when possible ,all of which hit like a train in a large aoe.
Or siting in earth attunement and spamming bleeding if going on condi ele.

In short, Eles are squishy, but they do have very high mobility, self heal, lots of condi clenses, protection and other bons and tons of dmg. If you learn all your traits and skills, and have some experiences with your enemies you will be a destructive weapon of destruction .

Guardians :

At start they do have the same health as a ele, but they get to have heavy armor which mitigates the dmg to some extent.

Guardians are mostly melee, they are able to pull off some burst dmg with great sword as well as some good sustained dps with hammer (that barely anyone uses cause they never actually tried a hammer at lvl 80… dusk, sunrise and eternity can be blamed for this…)

They have some nice utility skills such as wall of reflection, stand your ground, contenplation of purity, save your selfs, renewed focus (the last 3 can be used for mass party condition clense)

Guardians are also able to use shields and swords (some people think this is awesome regardless of the skills)

They have some nice cc and party wide buffs, regen, and healing

They can become extremely tough even with full zerker stats since most of their skills give some kind of self regen and protection, various boons, blocks, absorption, specially altruistic healing trati (heals when applying a boon to yourself or allies).

Guardians can be balanced pretty well regarding stats.
This is also the only class ive managed to get to all the “sweet spots” regarding stats.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQJARGlsApaIGChfoJiHEbH9pyANwdZUA-TxREABDt/AhKBTU9HO0BAlyPAeAAloJAA-e

2200 power, 3000 armor,60% precision ,+42% extra dmg from traits and runes(food ,3 sigils and 1 utility not included)

ofc, i could go “glass” zerker guardian…but honestly how much power do you need in this game for trash mobs?

In short: Guardians is a tough melee class that can be well balanced regarding stats and will always somehow support themselfs and people around while still managing to do some initial burst damage.

Sad Elementalist is sad. :(

dont be sad… its not like warriors are told to go phalanx strength all the time…

do whatever you wanna do. Or ask your party what they are running and with a few switches from you and s few other members youll have blast finishers, healing, mass aoe, might stacks, fury everything…

i was playing pve and some dungeons with guardian gs/staff for a looong time.

One day i switched to hammer /staff and with a few changes to some traits it was sooooooo refreshing and a complete diferent experience .

While you wont have the initial burst that you get from a great sword ( symbol, leap/aoeblind, whirwind wrath) you will however get a spamable mighty blow blast finisher that hits like a train, and a auto attack chain that, while a bit slow, does deal quite a lot of dps specially during the time you have the symbol of protection on the ground that also applies protection to you and others for almost 100% time.

you can support with any profession one way or the other. Some support with mass aoe, others with their utility skills, some with simple might stacking, and others such as ele and guardian can support with a lot of minor healing and long lasting regeneration.

depending on the situation and on players around you some support is more preferable than the other.

Lets take a warrior for example.

-He can “burst” heal and remove contitions with his shouts if he sees that his dungeon group cant take the dmg they are getting from conditions.

-He can stack a incredible amount of party wide might (up to 25 cap stacks) if he sees that there isnt enough might stacking in the group

-he can plant “permanent” banners creating a large area that grants everyone a nice base stat boost in atk, precision, permanent regeneration as well as stack swiftness and fury if there are more people holding their ground for a longer duration.

As you can see one class can support in many ways, but it all depends on the situation. Some situations dont even need support.

As for ele healer it is still viable, again, in some situations.
For example a event that requires you to keep some npcs alive (such as assoult on balthazar temple) Your heals are incredibly useful.
But dont forget to support other players around you with some utility such as Ice bow, or applying mass aoe blind with sandstormon the veterans that keep atacking the npcs.

As for wvw. entering a zerg and using teamspeak to call waterfields on the commander may turn the tides in a tight zerk v zerk fight. As it can fill up the entires zerk hp within seconds.

However when a ally blasts your water fields the person that blasts the field will heal himself as well as people around him based on HIS healing power, not on yours.

so going full healing power in wvw zerk only helps when you are resing people or when you are directly healing them with your regen, healing skills and your own blast finishers.

im not sure what zones you were visiting… but normaly if you play in the morning in a region that is your time then you will see less people play.

Megaservers make it so you see people from other servers in pve (again from your region, meaning if you are playign at 6 am, then others from other servers will also play at 6 am…or sleep..)

Try a different hour, also try some “hotspots” like divintiys reach, lions arch, newbie zones are always populated, get a phone app with boss timers and check how many people show up to kill it.

Join a active guild , play dungeons, fractals or pvp with them. Its a mmo you are playing so dont be shy to take initiative and start something your self

i voted for no

1) Ive been in such a situation before and i haven’t bought anything that would leave me broke.

2) Id rather buy several expensive stuffs than 1 big super expensive stuff.

3) If i bought several different expensive things and still went broke, i have my methods of getting that money back (with lots of time and a little bit of effort)

anyone else noticed how people tend to think that taunt and resistance will become this spamable aoe buff/debuff that all professions can use against eachother?

seriously… why do some of youthink these things will be available to all professions, and on that note why do some of you think its going to be spamable and aoe?

The other guy started rantnig on another topic about resistance boon, and how condition build will be totaly worthless since resistance can be applied and stacked in duration…

yea it can…but i doubt that all classes will get 5 skills that grant aoe resistance to everyone for 20 seconds ….

eone of the condition is Taunt. They explained that this will make your target run towards you and all skills except the auto atacks and stun breakers will be locked.

So yes, Taunt in gw2 works pretty much like any other taunt in any other game. Forces the target to run to you and atack you with the most basic atacks.

That’s actually not true. The article didn’t say it will run to you

Taunt will be used to both reposition foes and change your foes’ targets. For example, when used on players, it will force the taunted player to run at their target with their skill bar locked—minus stun breakers—and only use their autoattack skill to attack. This gives us the opportunity to use taunt in multiple ways, not just as a player skill, but also as a tool to create interesting creature encounters that utilize this taunt effect against players.

While what they say here is a bit ambiguous, it doesn’t necessarily say that Taunt will force your opponent to attack you, but it will attack someone.

" when used on players, it will force the taunted player to run at their target with their skill bar locked—minus stun breakers—and only use their autoattack skill to attack."

…So you are saying that if i see a player attacking my ally, i can taunt him in order to make him keep running and attack him with only his auto atacks for a brief moment?…

That doesnt make sense for a skill called taunt. Im pretty sure your taunted target will be forced to run towards you,the player who taunted him/her. While it wont force him/her to attack you, he/she will only have auto atacks and stun breakers as skills to use.

If what you say is true, that the taunted player who is atacking someone will simply continue to run towards and attack the same target he was attacking before… then im sorry Anet..please change your taunt condition and call it mesmers power lock conditon or something like that…..

erm… doesnt anyone check the front page of gw2 anymore?
they released some info about the revenant as well as explained some new boons and conditions

one of the condition is Taunt. They explained that this will make your target run towards you and all skills except the auto atacks and stun breakers will be locked.

So yes, Taunt in gw2 works pretty much like any other taunt in any other game. Forces the target to run to you and atack you with the most basic atacks.

As for threat generation we have no idea about that, however this Taunt is a CONDITION and will act as such.

Another thing people seem to jump into conclusion about these new boons and conditions is that they would be as common as some regeneration boons…..

I seriously doubt you can stack a taunt duration for 30 secs+ on someone, just as well as you cant stack resistance to such ridiculous durations either…

Cant wait to use it in pvp right before a enemy stomps a friend

On another note this might be a big thing when it comes to the new “never seen before” group content.
