Why:
Even though OP perma-stealth exploit build has been nerfed… This is still happening:

Clearly, that nerf was not enough. He’s still perma-stealth exploiting left and right using CnD, blinding powder, hide in shadows and shadow refuge. More nerfs are necessary as the last one didn’t do any justice.

What: Devourer venom
Why:
I can put 9s of immob on a target with this skill… That is ridiculous… and no one can cleanse it since i stack it with other venoms and about 6 other condis pop up with immob. Then the best part is is that when 9s runs comes close to running out, ill just spam body shot. (lol)
Suggestion:
Remove immob completely and give it burning with cripple, or something like that. Maybe confusion, just hell, not immob. Its way too strong.

Why:
They’re all playing dagger/pistol and all they do through out all fights is push 5 and then spam 2 (smokefield ? heartseak spam). The combo is really a no skill, annoyance to other players and kinda OP towards most light classes (necro DS insta kill, ele insta kill).
Suggestion:
Making heartseeker require like 2 more initiative so that a thief would be unable to spam it like 4 times in a row.Switching dancing dagger (Skill n°4 on dagger) with heartseeker would not only make dancing dagger being used more (due to it being the second skill) but would also fix the perma-stealth issue that’s been bothering a lot of WvW players.

What: dagger pistol perma stealth
Why:
Don’t know about every other non thief out there, but these thieves that can solo a bunch of people and win, due to perma stealth is bull ****, so over fighting them, I just walk away now, as it takes to many resources to down just one of these pugs.
Perma stealth is extremely annoying, and needs to be stopped, there is serious balance issues when 1 toon cant take on 5 and win, class match ups should be even and balance better.

their direct damage is too high. We should make the auto attack cost one imitative per shot because it does so much damage so quickly. Also the 2 skill should just be removed because thieves shouldn’t be able to root people, or apply vulnerability, especially with the extreme direct damage of pistol AA. While were at it, pistol shouldn’t be available as an off hand. Blind on a THIEF?! Outrageous! Just make pistol unable to even have an off hand weapon because, I mean, that AA is just so O kittening P!

Why:
Since we’re free loot bags, this is a merge of all the requests, Not only should the class name change to “Free Loot Bag” and take away our limbs so we can’t run or do anything, instead a total remake should be made (I agree with Burnfall! He’s totally right when he said it.). Our character creation screen should show a 8 slotted bag that we can then customize (pick out ribbons and colors…), and as we level-up/gear-up as bags we progress into a 10 slotted loot bag then into a 15 and so on. Or we start off as “Tiny Loot Bag” and progress into a “Small Loot Bag” and so on.

Thief is too hard to catch, other players may get too frusthrated. Thief should only be a torso, flopping on the ground. This way other players can easily kill even an experienced thief!! IF the torsothief can, however, land some damage to attacking player, or even if he/she bleeds on the attacking player, thieves account should be automaticly permabanned. Oh, and the torsothief players PC should violently explode at that point. Preventing the player from living and thusly preventing him from buying another copy of GW 2 and rolling another op thief.

What: Shadow Arts V Trait, Infusion of Shadow.
Why:
Obviously increasing the initiative gain to 2 makes it way too OP compared to the pre Dec. 10 patch Infusion of Shadow which only gave a 2 initiative gain. This new 2 initiative gain that they gave us is way too powerful compared to the old 2 initiative gain and needs to be nerfed immediately.

What: Being able to see while stealthed.
Why:
Stealth is invisibility, which means the thief’s retinas should not be able to absorb light whilst stealthed. Therefore, thieves should be presented with a blank screen while stealth is active. Mesmers use magic blindfolds and Rangers can, I don’t know, probably smell the landscape really well or something and thus should not be impacted by this change.

They need to nerf our Armor from being so Trenchy. Trenchcoats are OP and restrict movement.

What: Heartseeker damage bonus
Why:
The bonus should not be compounded with other bonuses like Executioner, Flanking Strike (trait) and Vulnerability. It should be harder to finish off someone desperately fighting for their lives. Besides, blood-soaked daggers becomes dull over time so the heartseeker bonus doesn’t make any sense.

Why:
Initiatives allows a Thief to spam skills while other professions has to wait for cool downs. Initiatives should be a maximum of 8 initiatives and 9 max when traited. Whenever the Thief use an initiative skill, they get stun for 2s which will effectively stop the spamming and help them to conserve initiatives for other skills. We just care so much for the profession that we don’t want them to be a bad boy that needs spanking.

Because outside of several counters to entering stealth (Ranger’s Sic ‘Em, pulling or knocking a thief out of Shadow Refuge while it’s going on), there is no actual counter to stealth while inside it. Give a counter such as blocking stealth = reveal to fix this.

a 900 range skill that immobilizes? Really? Too OP. I’ve caught too many people trying to run away. Stealth and shoot – you don’t even need to waste initiative. Thieves already have it too easy. Drop the range from 900 to 5, make them waste all their initiative if they immobilize a target, and give it a 99.99% of failure, that still drains initiative. That’s more fair.
Oh, and if the skill fails, it immobilizes the thief instead, and adds five stacks of bleeding, poison, and torment.

I spammed shortbow poison aoe, caltrops, etc to apply conditions on foes in area and noticed I can pretty much kill both players and monsters without becoming “revealed.” This is getting more and more popular in WvW and it is rather unfair… But this is enough, please make any damage the thieves do in stealth apply revealed. Spamming conditions from stealth should reveal them.

Greetings community,

Like many of you are aware the Nerf Wish List has been locked.
Not too sure why either, there was no message left or anything. I personally don’t see any harm from the thread, as it’s kind of a “jester” thread…

Either way, I wish to thank the mod, since it pushed me resurrect it in a more condense, clean, form. Plus it’s kind of fitting since there’s an upcoming HoT release that this thread gets “refreshed”.

I’ve scrapped togather a python script (found here http://pastebin.com/1YBHWL9E, yeah it’s pastebin), which goes over the old thread and parses it in it’s entirety… Essentially since HTML already has a structure, making finding posts easy, top it off with my own enforced structure of what/why/suggestion/thread makes it easier to parse/digest via a script…
Due to the character post limit being ~5000, it’s going to take me 44 posts to fully recreate all the requests from that thread. I will ofc go through those that look funny to make sure they’re correct.

:P Depending on how hard the raids are… and if people are dying a lot… Being a ninja-nurse might warrant you a spot.

Though, if your concern is getting in raids, roll something that’s more probable (war,ele,guard). Though, it might be flooded with war/ele/guards for the same reason (being the most probable to be needed) and finding X will take longer/have a higher need (specialized role, like that 1 tank or those 2 supports in other games vs the 8 dps that you can find in 3 seconds).

As far as I know there has been exactly one buff since December ‘13 (when I started playing thief) that was the increase of dagger mainhand to 2 targets.
I agree though, I’d like that too, I just don’t think it will happen.

There’s been a couple more, particularly to traps/venoms (I think CD was reduced on one of them)… Though, it’s just so we can’t say that we’re nerfed ALL the time.


The change from trait-lines to spec-lines, I have a feeling, was their way of looking at all the classes and what’s broken or not…

Either way, they’ve said that there’s 1 big balance patch before release of HoT, and I wager/hope one soon after.

I’m sure a lot of people across all classes would be happy if they said “These coming months we will be only looking at base profs and what’s wrong/broken in them”.

O well…

Why not D/P for stealth stacking/interrupt and P/D for bleed stacking, or is the point to literally never come out of stealth?

The point is to never come out of stealth AND kill someone. (One of the first things he says…)


Don’t think it has much of a place in sPvP…

As for WvW, well, since we thieves already roam… yeah it’s another roaming build…

So about the commonly seen argument or the notion of “hours of entertainment per dollar” metric. Like some people use it as argument that you paid $X (say $50) and played for thousands of hours (say 3000 hours), clearly you got your money’s worth.
Personally I think the original/vanilla was worth the price, but I’m not basing my judgement on how many hours I’ve played.
Similarly to how I wouldn’t judge a book to be good based on the number of pages I’ve read and the amount I paid for it.
Or going to a wonderland, getting a day ticket from the time they open and staying there till I’m kicked out – just to get the most hours per dollar of entertainment out of it.
Or I don’t count the number of chews/time I was chewing a bubble gum and the amount of I paid for it, to say if I liked it or justify buying and buying it again.
Or I wouldn’t choose not to go to a movie because it’s 2 hours long and costs $15 while another is 3 hours long and also costs $15. (Nevermind comparing the movies to games…)
This kind of “hours of entertainment per dollar” metric seems to fly way past my head.

On a deeper level… Fulfillment in life isn’t determined by the age of a person.

It’s not a poor metric to use. The argument is that what you spend your time doing is what you value more than that which you don’t spend your time doing.

For example, say you work a 40hr/week job that you don’t particularly like. The reason you continue to work for it is because you value what it gives you more than you value what you would have without it; money. If you could get by without having to work that job, you would likely fill your time with something more fulfilling or entertaining.

Similar thing with entertainment. You have a limited amount of time on this Earth and you allocate how you spend it to different things. A game that costs $50 and gives you 3000 hours of entertainment that you enjoy is extremely efficient at providing you that entertainment. A 2 hr movie for $15 is, relatively, extremely inefficient at delivering entertainment, but you may still enjoy it all the same. Perceived value and actual value may vary greatly as you may feel you loved the movie more than the game, but you have devoted 2998 more hours of your life playing the game than watching the movie, so you value that more, ultimately.

If only things were so mechanical, the world would be so simple – that and Hollywood would be so empty…

So about the commonly seen argument or the notion of “hours of entertainment per dollar” metric. Like some people use it as argument that you paid $X (say $50) and played for thousands of hours (say 3000 hours), clearly you got your money’s worth.
Personally I think the original/vanilla was worth the price, but I’m not basing my judgement on how many hours I’ve played.
Similarly to how I wouldn’t judge a book to be good based on the number of pages I’ve read and the amount I paid for it.
Or going to a wonderland, getting a day ticket from the time they open and staying there till I’m kicked out – just to get the most hours per dollar of entertainment out of it.
Or I don’t count the number of chews/time I was chewing a bubble gum and the amount of I paid for it, to say if I liked it or justify buying and buying it again.
Or I wouldn’t choose not to go to a movie because it’s 2 hours long and costs $15 while another is 3 hours long and also costs $15. (Nevermind comparing the movies to games…)
This kind of “hours of entertainment per dollar” metric seems to fly way past my head.

On a deeper level… Fulfillment in life isn’t determined by the age of a person.

Semantics. All that matter is the big picture.

The mecanic is that we replace our dodges with other skills. The traits are here to customise that.

That almost sounds like “stealth is a thief mechanic” to me, when in reality it’s steal…

I get what you’re trying to say though… that Double-D revolves around using dodges…

Ascended gear when it was implemented was used to solve two problems:

1. How fast people got exotics. There needed (well, they thought) to be a tier higher that requires more time.

2. The gap between acquiring exotics and legendaries.

And to a degree, it has solved both problems to some extent… It does take considerably longer than getting exotics. Though the gap between exotics and legendaries, well, honestly, it didn’t solve, since the gap was always the RNGensus of getting a precursor (not so much the mats and whatnot) or saving up for one… Now this gap has/is being resolved with the ability to craft precursors. Which means, one of the points for implementing ascended has been kind of nullified.

The remaining point is that it needs to take more time than the exotics…

Without a doubt ascended gear, due to the stats increase (small, I know, but it’s there) over exotics, will become required by the hardcore raiding crowd. Even the slightest stat increase will now have a more dramatic effect, since raids will (or at least should) take much longer than dungeons… And every little bit will help get through them faster and safer (less time spent in a fight with a boss, means chances to screw up the mechanic means less chances to wipe/restart)…

I personally think that it would be a good idea to have Ascended tokens drop/obtained from the raids, which can be exchanged for ascended gear just like our dungeon tokens…

It’s a bit backwards, as in, if ascended gear becomes a requirement for raiding (by the hardcore crowd) and is obtained from raids…. But hopefully that will mean that they will take someone under-geared to get geared…

It will also still satisfy the only remaining point of the Ascended gear being implemented and that is taking longer to get than the exotics – raids should be longer/harder to do than dungeons, right?

(No infusion slots for agony resist is not a point, exotic gear could have been modified to support that. And I have to dig it up, but if memory serves, the 2 points that I’ve mentioned were their 2 points for implementing it.)

Technically, Feline Grace was probably much much better than the basic +50 endurance. But DD mechanic is the new dodges, not that small bonus.

I hope Mr. McLain is consulting with some high level SPvP thieves, because he’s certainly not engaging in a dialogue with anyone on this subforum.

If that’s the case… It will stay in the hands of high level sPvP thieves (tournies and such)…

And honestly, who here is amongst them? Having a giant gap-of-void between terrible and godlike… is not so good for a class….

The part about raids being designed so any profs can fill the needed roles, will probably be held true by their philosophy, however some classes can do certain things better than others.

Just like the current dungeons… it can be done with 5 rangers… it just won’t be as fast or worthwhile (due to time) as meta compositions…

So, since raids are coming, for those that will raid, it might be useful to make the appropriate characters as a prep. for the release. It’s inevitable that there will be raid compositions and talk of.

My guess would be that warriors, guardians, and eles will be need for the following reasons:

Guardian, for the buffs, and general tanky-ness.

Warrior, for buffs/banners – especially Battle Standard, to save from wipes.

Ele’s for DPS.

Just out of curiosity, did they nerf acro so hard because of this spec?

More than likely.

I’m still a bit bitter about it too, since they could have improved acro to the state of the elite and made a different elite spec (tons of ideas out there). They did do an impressive job making the elite trait line coherent though.


I get the feeling that old FG would have given us 4-5 dodges with the elite spec, so an addition 1-2 dodges over not using the spec (as the old FG technically gave us 3 dodges.), so yeah, they said it had to go, probably… That or, one dev QQ’ed about another dev dodging too much…. the 3rd dev that overheard, listened and nerfed FG… true story.

Only two things I kind of don’t like about the elite spec/staff:

- The heal skill: It will never be used, at the very least in combat, simply because it’s a channeling spell, which makes us stationary. Considering we really don’t have any passive defenses, when we’re not dodging or stealthing, we’re taking hits… Perhaps add a protection boon for the duration of the channel OR give aegis per pulse as well. Withdrawal, in my opinion, outclasses this heal and fits the theme more.

- Staff leap: The #5 leap on the staff looks a bit slow… Not sure what the intentions are for it, but it looks a bit lackluster as a movement/getting around the map skill. I’m not even sure if we can go up edges with it… Perhaps speed up the animation? Combat wise, it’s probably good as it is, but movement wise… doesn’t seem like from the stream.

Well, anxious to see the hard content PoI tomorrow! Only thing that’s holding me back from getting the game. I think I’m pretty sold on the thief prof, despite the acro gutting, which hopefully I will get over it just like I have(n’t) gotten over ascended.

There’s already been a couple of posts on reddit, people saying something along the lines of “didn’t they already have enough evasion?”. That will amplify once the game comes out, hype dies down, and people start looking again at what’s “OP”… QQ’s will return in the form of “they’re evading too much” – “QQ perma-evades”…. Right now it’s just novelty around hype built around the upcoming expansion, once that wears off, things will return to normal.

Yeah it does look good as a trait line, probably a must now, but, again, once things settle down – I want to say, stabilize – and the normal/real balancing starts, that’s when we will know for sure just how much the elite spec had and impact on the class.

Like, if you could skip time to 1 year from now for a brief second, and take a look at the elite specs again the judgment that you have then will be worth more than it is now.

Fun times right now. (See conditions, the bugged traits (guardian’s and engie’s) that made through for a brief time).

Not sure if that makes sense to you guys, but yeah.


Our class problems might be the least of our worries, god forbid that that IGN leak is true. At that point there will community wide problems. Hopefully it will be restricted though…

I’ll sign on to this with 1 caveat. I am still bummed out about the nerfs to FG….

That said, it seems like Karl has been lurking here in the background taking notes on feedback and has given us a spec that is more cohesive and interesting than 90% of what the old acrobatics had. I will continue to make suggestions on how I think some of the core issues with the thief could be fixed, but I think we’re at least getting visits from the devs even if they’re not leaving comments.

What we really need is for those platinum balls to resist the nerf bat.

I like the design of DD, but I’ll have to wait (and hold unto my money) and see what they’ll do after launch when the PvP season rolls in.

^ Basically what both of you said. A bit more on the conservative side in terms of handing out thanks and seeing a bright future – due to history.

The amount of cohesion in the trait line is unparalleled, which impresses me the most… It would be amazing if they did that to every trait line – not only for thieves either.

do you mean the other 8…90% thief players that are using D/P ? and, “new role” … like …?

The 90% can be split into can be split into two camps:

1st camp. Didn’t play S/D because they didn’t like it. Well, doubt they will like the new spec.

2nd camp. Played S/D till forced into or saw how better (or other reasons) D/P is. The new elite spec, doesn’t bring much, aside from an aesthetic makeover to a style they’ve once played.
