Gold Transfer Changes - My story and impact

If you use the TP there is zero scamming. What you’re doing, with direct through-the-mail trades increases in game inflation, making everyone poorer, directly. It is unsupported because of that.

To get a direct trade system in place without the fees accomplishes nothing but increasing inflation, and due to it being player-to-player trading, allows for a myriad of scams.

Suck it up. Use the TP as intended. Really, there is no other answer for your problem.

That’ll be Anet’s response as well, guaranteed.

Wait. Someone who freely admits he’s in the upper .175% of income in the game is upset because the system isn’t tailored to his needs.

As a side effect, they want a system that’s guaranteed to increase in-game scamming, and be a RMT haven. Because it would be easier for him to avoid the TP tax.

No.

Freedom to reduce listing prices on TP

OP is looking to remove the risk from high end trading. Why humour him? He attempted to sell beyond what was reasonable (otherwise the item would have sold) and is now sitting on an item that won’t move until the supply side of the supply:demand is reduced to the point where his item is the least costly.

Also, I have zero sympathy for someone who isn’t going to make as much “projected” profit. That’s an accounting system that’s accepted for corporations but no private entity on the planet.

Though, as an aside, could you imagine filing your taxes the way that corporations deal with their earnings?

“I had hoped to make $900,000 this year. Unfortunately, my income only comes to $60,000. Therefore I have suffered a $840,000 loss.”

Don’t make changes to allow for stupid people to keep being stupid.

Hate speech (using the Canadian definitions, since those were the law classes I took) includes, but isn’t strictly limited to;

“Defamation based upon gender or sexuality. Speech or writings that single out ethnicities or religious groups with the goal of marginalizing them. Language that encourages acts of felony assault or murder.”

That ought to cover language that goes beyond good taste and civility. “You suck, newb” wouldn’t qualify. Using any racial/religious slurs would. Sexuality based abuse would also qualify.

If, you, Serophous, cannot distinguish between simple poor manners and attitude vs. language that is intended to dehumanize, that’s more your issue than mine.

Censorship – the principle that adults must live on pablum because baby can’t have steak.

That said, while I’m opposed to censorship of any sort, (with military disposition and technology being the sole exception), I have zero issue with people who comport themselves with such poor taste getting a permanent invitation to the world. (IE – hate speech = permaban, with no exceptions.)

I’d say get rid of the filters altogether; in-game and forum both. If someone behaves in a way that is deliberately hurtful to another, ban their account. If they love Tyria enough to buy a second account, they’ll likely think before acting from then on.

[Suggestion] Permanently Stow Pets

The ability to stow a pet permanently is the single most often requested thing on these forums.

The blanket response has been “the ranger is THE pet profession. we know it’s broken – live with it.”

While I would love to see it, I can’t honestly see Anet doing it.

While this won’t have any impact on me, I can see it really harming the larger guilds that do the precursor/legendary raffles and other gold intense passtimes.

Really disappointing. You just put out the best patch in the game’s history, and then you choose to follow up by flipping off the largest guilds. I don’t get the thought process behind this.

While we’re at it, lets mandate that all clothing come to the ankle, no higher. All tops must come all the way up to the throat – no low necklines.

Language is to be moderated so that no “off colour” language ever makes it’s way into the open where someone might be offended.

Servers will be down every Sunday, so that nobody need work toward anything on the sabbath. It would be Saturday for some sects though, so to be safe perhaps we ought to shut them down on weekends.

I’m sorry, OP, but one person’s “offensive comment” is the next person’s belly laugh.

Continued World Boss Issues

stale.9785

Suggestions based purely upon personal feelings.

1) Have him do an AoE knockback/launch skill that tosses people into the pit behind the Shaman.

2)Noob zone, first world boss. Leave as is for people to train on.

3)Yup – fire ele needs more HP. A LOT more HP.

4)Golem ought to do a long range AoE pull, followed up by the evil blue lightning. Remove the “stand on the box” box.

5)Jormag is boring. Need to make the second phase non-cheatable. Extend the range of the field of death so you can’t whittle him down – protect those golems of fail the event. rawr! (Maybe add a second reward if you do this.)

6)No opinions on Teq. I dislike that encounter, but I don’t begrudge it for those who enjoy it.

7)Taidha is boring. No clue how to improve her – I just skip it.

8)Agree with Stark. mega is alright.

9)Add some AoE swipe action. kitten is a DRAGON. He ought to be able to smash you with his paw, instead of getting ankle chopped to death. Where is the HORDE of Branded that are rightly his to control? HP is ok, but he needs some danger added. Not Teq level – but more danger than he has now.

10) I feel bad for that centaur. So sure of himself, then just stands there and gets rocked.

BSOD since Patch

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

Pope – sorry about the delay – just put in 18 hours at work.

That reads like your driver is corrupt. Were I you, I would:

Unplug your PC from the wall, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then double check that your graphic card is seated properly. (This shouldn’t be the case with that error, it’s just a default step, rather like making sure the system is turned on.)

Once everything is seated and dust free, plug your PC back into the wall, and turn it on.

Download the current drivers (I’m using an r290 myself – epic card.)

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download.

Once you’ve downloaded them, run the downloaded installer. It will give you an option to uninstall. Do that first – pick only the drivers (they will be labelled as such) and remove them all. (If for some reason you have RAPTR, go ahead and uninstall that too.)

The screen will flicker, and you may have to reboot, depending upon your mobo/cpu.

When that’s done, run the download again, this time choosing to install. You’ll install everything, except for RAPTR. That’s just bloatware, and you can ignore it.

Again, your screen will flicker, but this time you likely won’t have to reboot.

Once that is done, run Ccleaner (just the clean option). You should be doing this regularly anyway.

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download – get ccleaner here. Pick the leftmost download option. Only ever use the cleanup option. Do not mess with your registry, unless you’re 100% certain you know what you’re doing.

Those steps ought to resolve your issue. If, for some reason, it persists I’d actually suspect you have multiple bad sectors on your HDD, which should have been apparent long before your drivers became corrupt.

Sorry for the delay, and the great heaping wall of text.

BSOD since Patch

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

Reading through the bug forum, I’m honestly starting to wonder how many of you are playing with rigs that are at/below the minimum standard for the game.

The in-game bugs are all on A-net. Missing textures, broken voice prompts, and broken chat definitions are all behind the scenes things.

Having a less than 1GB download take 20 hours plus? That’s entirely on your internet package and ISP.

Having the game not start when the patch has been implemented? That screams bad file structure – which implies something changed your directory structure – ie: sweetfx of some such thing.

BSOD – that one is entirely on you. Generally (90% + of the time) it would be a hardware problem. Do you have a bad RAM module? Do you even know how to check? Is your videocard/CPU bleeding heat properly? Again, do you even know how to check? Have you overclocked beyond the hardware’s ability to cope? Is the inside of your PC clean enough to lose the excess heat?

Seriously – there are a slew of software bugs, but a large chunk of what is currently in the bug forum is nothing but PEBKAC.

My problem with the new camera

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

For those experiencing motion sickness. Turn off camera shake. BOOM – your problem is solved.

For most everyone else – if you set the FOV to roughly 3/4 of the slider, that gives what appears to be 90 degree FOV, which is what literally every other AAA game on the planet has as it’s default.

With those two done, camera and the vertical and horizontal sliders left alone, you have what is the default view for most games.

For those who want the “classic” camera back. Restore to default, then unclick the camera shake. That is exactly where the camera sat pre-update.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

An easy way to reduce the difficulty for condition users – make it so that you have to actively trait for condition application.

No more “My auto attack causes bleed/poison/weakness” unless you’ve actively traited.

At the very least, this would do away with berserker users overwriting actual powered conditions with their own minimum damage ones.

23. i am, at best, agnostic. more accurately, i just don’t give a kitten. if there is a “god” either they aren’t interested in humanity, or they screwed up, big time.

24. censorship is wrong. it’s trying to feed a grown human pablum because baby can’t have steak.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

Easiest solution to the trait issue, and most of the NPE issues:

Reduce level cap to 20.

level 1-2: You have the base attack for your land and underwater weapon, and your heal unlocked. Weapon skills are unlocked as they were on game release – by actually using them.

level 3: Your first Utility Skill gets unlocked.

level 4: Your second Utility Skill gets unlocked.

Level 5: Your third Utility Skill gets unlocked.

Level 6: You gain access to the Elite Skill slot.

Levels 7-20: You get 1 trait point per level.

Unlocking traits is still done on a one by one basis, as it is now, with the cost of individual trait manuals reduced greatly. (1 silver + 1 SP for adept, 2 silver + 2 SP for master, 3 silver + 3 SP for Grandmaster ) and with the related objectives carefully gone over for level appropriateness, and to remove some that are just silly (Map completion, giant grub, any others that pull you out of PvE.)

1-15 zones get rebalanced for 1-5
15-25 zones rebalanced for 5-10
25-40 zones rebalanced for 10-15
Every zone currently 40+ gets rebalanced for level 20 gameplay.

End result, easier max character, plus more potential for end-game play, and a reduction in the illogic of the current setup.

Failing that, you’ll be stuck where I am, at 99% with one PoI and one vista remaining, knowing that it’s likely never going to be completed.

General Consensus on Condition Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

I’ll reflect on zerk should do greater dmg thn rabid.I disagree. With the rampup time in mind I could safely say condition characters should be able to dish out 20% more damage with conditions and then they still could be outdamaged by zerks by using a clean at certain moments, cleansing ire warriors can clean 2-3 conditions every 7-10s, without using additional cleans, Each clean resetting the damage output for a condi build to 0 , new stacks heve to be applied, a new rampup is started.

Saying DPS should outweigh DOT in max damage is saying i do not want any condi builds in game IMHO.

The problem is the condi tank gears like rabid and dire. Zerker you need 3 offensive stats, and condi you only need 1, so they can’t be more tanky and do more damage. And giving cleansing ire war as an example is not a good representation of all classes condi clearing capabilities.

You keep saying Condition users only need 1 stat. It keeps being wrong. They need condition damage, condition duration, most classes need precision to trigger conditions on crit, then, because it’s DoT instead of direct, they need toughness, so that the conditions have time to do damage.

stale.9785

Continued:

Now we have PvE – the bread and butter of, essentially, the entire gaming industry. The world is beautiful, the movement and skills are amazing. The enemy AI is, well, pathetic. Combat itself is little more than “bash 1 repeatedly”.

Horizontal progression – what ought to be the be-all and end-all of the game, is little more than gemstore exclusive skins. With the exception of Mawdrey, there has been almost nothing released that can be acquired in-game that rivals what you can buy from the gemshop. This is the downfall of the gemstore system as opposed to boxed expansions.

Then we have the world itself – as I’ve said, it’s beautiful – literally a work of art. Camera and UI issues prevent anyone from actually being able to admire it properly, which the dev team is aware of, yet refuse to touch, because it would be either too hard, or confusing for new players.

Trait fiasco. There’s an enormous thread on the first page detailing exactly why it’s broken, and offering literally hundreds of ways to improve it. Instead, we have silence while Anet apparently sits waiting for the problem to go away by itself.

NPE – A redesign which casually assumes that we all have IQ’s lower than our shoe sizes, and worse yet, doesn’t allow veteran users to opt out. Again, there is a mega-thread about that, so I shouldn’t have to add detail here.

Lack of content. THIS is the killer. When they introduced the LS, the claim was that we would see an expansion’s worth of content, delivered via free updates, to keep players interested. Given that between the first two seasons, we received what is, being extremely generous, perhaps 10 hours of gameplay, it’s no wonder that many are upset. GW1 showed us exactly how much content Anet is capable of producing when they want to. Instead we’ve gotten, comparatively, nothing.

I can keep going on, but there’s really no point.

TL;DR It’s not that I dislike the game. You couldn’t be further from the truth. I like Guild Wars 2. I’m passionate about it. I want to love it. It’s very nearly painful to see something with this potential being wasted the way it is.

Rather like if Jimmy Hendrix was only ever permitted to play the triangle.

New year new content ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stale.9785

stale.9785

So much wishful thinking. At this point, I expect even less new content than we’ve gotten so far. 2014 gave us almost a whole 6 hours worth of new content. For 2015, I’m expecting maybe 3. Of that, 90% will be listening to unskippable dialogue from characters whom I dislike nearly as much as I do Trahearne.

Also expect more senseless redesigns! Then a six month long hiatus from any public forum from the devs while they pretend that everything is fine!

Why are you even playing this game? You obviously don’t like it. Or is that that you do like the game, and you just hate not having everything you want right when you want it?

Andred, read my post history; I do like this game – quite a lot, actually. However, I am not blind to the fact that the devs have repeatedly made claims and not followed through with them. The potential they have here is staggering – with better management, this could easily be one of the best games ever made. As it is, they’re squandering the potential while desperately attempting to attract people who aren’t yet invested in the game, hoping to earn more money.

I’ve been around since the GW1 beta weekends. Read every announcement I could find about what the devs were doing. I bought collector edition’s of all 3 of the original games – twice, since I got them for my wife as well.

When they announced GW2, I read everything available, took part in every AMA that I could, and followed the development closely.

On release, we all saw the potential for greatness. I brought an entire alliance with me – nearly 600 people. I personally paid for a number of their accounts, since they weren’t in a position financially to be able to play.

Then, two months in, they released ascended to appease the game locusts – people that will burn through any content quickly, then leave. To this day, it’s a touchy subject on the forums – especially since it constituted a giant middle finger to the entire GW1 playerbase that funded the game. BIS will be easily available to everyone upon reaching max level. Right up until they introduce a new, grindy, PITA BIS.

GW1 was, at it’s core, a PvP game. It has what is still an amazing PvP system – very much like Magic: The Gathering, but in a computer game. Compared, GW2 has sorely neglected PvP, which plays almost as though it were an afterthought. The only sop they’re given is that nearly every skill balance is aimed at PvP – and rightly so.

WvWvW is an amazing concept, that has received almost no love. It’s stagnant, and that’s a shame. Were some simple balance steps taken, it could become a strategic fantasy warfare with no parallel. Instead, it’s been reduced to little more than the EOTM karma train. When armies do clash, there’s little strategy beyond “The biggest blob wins”.

Does anyone have the i7-4790k?

Define “huge drops”? I’m not expecting a system upgrade to grant me 100FPS all the time – but I’d love to have something more consistent than 60 fps everywhere except wvw/maw/jormag – where it becomes 15.

I actually suspect it’s all the particle effects that are the major issue – rendering that many different sets of effects from a skrittload of users seems to be the major culprit when my FPS does a skydive.

i7 920 @ 3.2ghz
r280 @ 3 GB vram
12GB system ram

For me, ‘huge drops’ are going from a very consistent 60 (I lock my fps to 60 and use vsync) down into high teens, low 20’s during all-out giant zerg collisions in wvw, sometimes teq and usually karka queen.

Jormag usually crashes me if my audio settings aren’t cranked to minimum. Buggered if I know why that is, but that fight tends to chew the fps down to the high teens/low 20’s too.

Huh – maybe I will put off the upgrade then. (Other than kitten. I WANT a SSD!!!!) However, with that much more CPU power, and what appears to be zero improvement over my system, I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle.
