@HHR LostProphet,
I agree with most everything you wrote except for the “buy anything” comments. I actually think this is the best part of the game and aligns well with the original manifesto. It allows people to play the game the way they want. The worst MMO games are when you have to farm a dungeon 500x to hopefully get some gear you want. That is not fun. I prefer the gw2 approach.
You’ll need to use some basic strategies which everybody else has to use in order to ensure your big-hitting abilities land!
These include
Baiting dodges
Immobilising or stunning your enemy
Not being bad
Making sure you’re not blinded, or about to get blinded before using your abilitiesEnjoy dealing with the same mechanics as the rest of us peasants!
Doesn’t change the fact that Hammer and Long Bow will be even more favorable when the changes happen.
Nice try though, casual. Good chance that you’ve never played Axe or Mace mainhand and made it work to an extent
If you don’t understand that warrior has been easy mode in 2014, you are playing with blinders on.
That said, I don’t think warriors needed the adrenaline change. They just a small change. When under the effects of endure pain, it should be not possible to capture or contest a point.
Anet: We do not like no-skill (passive play)
Balance team: Ok, let’s buff turret engis, guardian spirit weapons, and clones
The balance team is completely out of touch at this point.
Turret Engi. Nobody can bunk a point like a turret engi.
This ^^. Turret engi all but prevents a quick 1v1 decap
I just can’t stand that guy Karl anymore .
I don’t think it is really him. He is the one speaking, but doesn’t make all the balance decisions.
The problem in this game is that it lacks a balance team. They are slow to make changes and when they do make changes, it doesn’t effect the items that are actually broken.
I would also love a new game mode, but make no mistake: standard game models is HUGE! Clearly this feature pack is gonna be smaller overall than last April’s, where we got the new rewards and they rebalanced every single rune and sigil, so I don’t think pvp is getting less than any other game mode. I mean, WvW is just getting purple commander tags! :p
True. WvW players got nothing of value during this patch, but that’s slightly more than the nothing from the April patch.
PvP needs enhancements that add to the game experience. Creating a new set of armor that no one will be able to see as a result of standard models isn’t a great idea.
Heck, if there is only one PvP developer, that at least do something small like put a bank in heart of the mists.
it’d be nice if dishonorable wasn’t a 1-3 day ban for the 1st offence, i got Dc’d from a match cause of router issues and not being able to play comp PvP for almost 3 days was really annoying not gonna lie.
You don’t get banned for the first offense. You get it after 3 offenses within 72 hours.
Not saying the players are at fault for the servers conking out yesterday, but why on earth did you keep playing when you saw there was network instability? I mean, ok, maybe the first disconnect was a fluke, so you queue up again when you log back in, but once you got 2 in a row why push your luck? I think it was pretty thoughtless and I personally wouldn’t like other pvp features to get pushed back to implement a pardon system for people who should’ve had more sense to begin with.
People like to play when they have time…………a person with common sense would at least know that.
No, a person with common sense would do hot join if they still wanted to PvP during network instability. If you got 3 dishonorable, you should think through your decision next time.
The reason before are confused is because of the original wording. Luckily ANET changed it to “claim”
Another way to look at this…. if few people transfer servers, ANET will increase the rewards for season 4. In case you didn’t know, the whole point of seasons is to drive gem sales from transfers.
7 months of development from the WvW team delivered a new mastery skill and a new trick.
Working for ANET would be my dream job! I wonder how they spend all day if it isn’t doing development.
Stacking doesn’t make sense. The rewards that you receive aren’t worth the transfer cost.
So after all this time, they still didn’t so anything about the 2v1 situation among servers and tiers.
I’m sure you’ve been planning this message for quite some time, but did you even read the blog post? If you did read it, let me ask you a question:
" Each matchup will be unique, and every win—or upset—will make a huge difference!"
If every matchup is unique, how exactly do you see a 2v1 working? Getting a 2v1 organized isn’t easy, and there is no way 2 random servers are going to be able to do that.
@OP:
What server are you on???? Other than reset night, I rarely see a queue in EB. That’s on a T1 NA server.
I am hoping the PvP announcements will be coming soon. There has been nothing related to the actual gameplay. The changes themselves are pretty blah.
1. New armor that no one will be able to see because of standard models
2. A tournament system that is great for top teams but meaningless for everyone else
Where are the actual PvP announcements????
Agreed. Our feedback will be (even more) meaningless for the last 2 professions at this rate.
I don’t think they are looking for feedback. If they did, they wouldn’t have buffed turret engi.
I just saw the gamescom video. In it, the WvW lead mentions that people are playing the gamemode at “very steady numbers”. I hate to say this, but that comment is completely out of touch.
A year ago, I used to see queues in T3 during the week during NA primetime. Now I do not even see queues in T1 during that time frame. The population is WAY down over the last year.
If you see “steady numbers”, it is because you are counting EotM. People do not go there to WvW. They go there because it is currently the best place to level or karma train in the game. If you nerf the rewards to make it comparable to other parts of the game, the PvE people would leave.
tldr; There are fewer players in actual WvW than at any point since the game launched.
I’ll say it again: There has to be more to the commander tags than just new colors. During the CDI last year, the leader of WvW asked if we just wanted new colors in the short term or if we wanted to wait longer term and get a more complete overhaul. Given that they didn’t release the new tags in the short term, he would seem quite silly if they only release new colors now. I like to think he is better than that.
You would think.
But the backlash has been pretty heavy. When people started questioning the new siege trick, a red tag popped in to clarify. If there was more to the commander changes, shouldn’t someone have stopped by to at least say “there’s more to come”?
I stand corrected. The design lead looks silly.
You probably aren’t getting many comments here because you have it posted in the wrong forum. Post this in WvW to get feedback there.
No one really cares about ranks anymore. All you really get is a cool title and a dragon finisher. Unfortunately the finisher isn’t even that great. ANET has purposely made the best finishers as gem store purchases.
Capture the flag actually would work. They just need to remove any class advantages from the flag carrier. Give the flag carrier their own set of skills.
@OP:
There will always be complaints about thiefs. That said, the two biggest PvP specs, S/D and D/P both took a big nerf. I think it is much more likely that you will see fewer teams running a thief in tournament play as time goes on.

As for the mastery skill, that is blah. I do like the new trick though. That should make things more exciting.
So much fail in this thread. Get out of hotjoin and you will see very little to no MM or Turret builds. lol
Actually, you do see the builds there. They are very effective against anything other than a coordinated team. You do not see coordinated in solo queue, and half the team queues are just pugs as well.
Turrets do need a nerf. It all goes back to the comments ANET has made about passive skillplay and how they want to minimize it.
Turrets are currently the easiest to play spec in the game and get they still do very well.
I can understand your point but I want you to think beyond your point in regards to the passive playstyle and about the class as a whole (if you actually play engineer). What are the alternatives??
Watch someone like an ostrich eggs play sometime. Highly ranked and doesn’t use turrets. He is on twitch.
Great! Why force karma blobs to clear cannons and oil? Obviously this slows down the karma train, and ArenaNet can’t have that happening can it?
I guess ArenaNet is really trying to kill WvW and turn it into a mindless quest for karma. Oh wait, they already did that. This update is just another nail in the coffin.
Actually it’s probably the last one.
I don’t think you have any clue what “siege” is.
The problem is us thieves are too good. We have been nerfed to the underworld, yet we still manage to win fights. That my friends is showing the mistaken Dev team that we need to be more equalized in their eyes, because they simply dont know like we do.
Solution: start losing. Then buffs will come.
apologies for the rant. At work using the phone. +1 for slacking off.
The problem is that the thief class pushes all other zerker spec out of the meta. Best mobility, best survivabilty and easy to apply burst. Either buff the zerker specs of other classes so they are equaly good or nerf one of those three things. I dont see any chance for a buff bevor one of those two things happen.
If you think thief has best survivability, you don’t play much PvP. If you are referring to other game modes, that might be different.
@OP:
Simple. People play turrets because it is the current easiest spec in the game to play. For a while, it was mm necro, then it was spirit ranger. Now it is turret engi.
Soon, turret engi will get nerfed and the bandwagon players will move onto a new spec.
@OP:
You are correct that balance is a big problem in this game. That said, PvP is not about 1v1, it is about team fights. That balance should be more around the team.
The issue is that there are too many builds that require no skill and still do really well (turret engi for example). Those are the items that need to be addressed.
Lich is definitely OP in its current format. It does too much damage.
Why does the balance team do the opposite of what is good for balance? Examples:
Players:
Warrior has too much sustain on point
ANET:
Ok, let’s nerf 100 blades damagePlayers:
Turret Engi is a no skill spec that does too well
ANET:
Ok, lets buff the rocket turrets.Players:
S/D thief has too many evades
ANET:
Cool, let’s make it harder to do damagePlayers:
We are in too much of a bunker meta
ANET:
Cool, let’s nerf thievesPlayers:
Eviscerate hits too hard
ANET:
Let’s pretend we didn’t hear thatA preview of future bad ideas (take note ANET. You can use these!)
1. Let’s buff spirit weapons for guardians. Players hate AI and this will really make them mad.
2. Let’s buff Lich form
3. Let’s buff PU on mesmers
4. Let’s buff meteor shower and make it unblockable and undodgeable.
5. Let’s remove all maps from PvP except for Skyhammer.
Yes! Looks like I was right about spirit weapons. ANET used my bad ideas list!
Turrets do need a nerf. It all goes back to the comments ANET has made about passive skillplay and how they want to minimize it.
Turrets are currently the easiest to play spec in the game and get they still do very well.
@OP:
I don’t think you understand that if ANET kills the zerg, they will also kill WvW. People zerg because that is what they enjoy. A lot of people go to WvW for the large scale fights. If I want smaller scale fights, I already have PvP.
There has to be more to the commander system than just color tags. DC asked during the CDI if people would rather see a quick fix (new colors) or a more in depth change. Given that ANET didn’t implement the quick fix, they must have spent the time with the longer term changes.
1. Balance – This is the biggest issue. It takes the balance team forever to make changes (seriously, what do they do all day that is takes 5-6 months to release balance updates). eSports have much more frequent changes. The issue with GW2 is that oftentimes something is broken and people get frustrated some stop playing PvP. The balance team is the weak point here.
2. Game modes – Conquest is fun to play, but boring to watch. They need a new game mode and put the focus on that.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
After so much hype for voting the all stars, Vee Wee did not see any information on the actual all star matches! Vee Wee did not know what time they were! Vee Wee does not know the results! Tho thilly!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
EU vs China: 3-0
NA vs CHina: 3-0
EU vs NA: 3-0EU won
No big surprise. I hope ANET learned their lesson here. Do not send a team vs PUGs. Otherwise it is just embarrassing for everyone.
Here’s a video of it in use: Guildmag Video
The projectile velocity seems pretty fast.
This looks perfectly fine to me. As I told the OP. this will benefit defenders way more than attackers.
The only way I’d be wrong is if there is no line of sight to the grenade, but I find that highly unlikely.
@OP:
Great idea. As xillllix says though, it is way easier to just change the color.
Let’s hope ANET has actually been spending time on some WvW enhancements. The new color commander tags probably took a good hour to implement. Golem mastery is just blah.
Nerf the rewards of EotM and no one would go there anymore. People don’t play the map because it is great. Most people go there to level alts, increase wxp, or gain karma.
The map itself it a failure.
Siege disabler actually looks cool. It’s freaking out people that just want to karma train through WvW instead of have a strategy, which is good.
Actually it makes defensive siege worthless….so it “fill_in_blanks” the defenders.
I don’t think you understand how siege or traps work. This will be a huge benefit to defenders, not to the offensive focused people.
Bunker anything is better than dps in solo queue.
The whole implementation is bad by ANET. It’s almost like a joke gone bad.
ANETperson #1: Let’s implement standard models that all look the same
ANET person #2: haha. Good idea. At the same time let’s introduce new PvP armor that no one can see! What motivation!Yeah cause the first thing i will look for is the armor of my enemy and then when im downed i try to defend myself and the point.
I wouldn’t know. I’m not downed as much as you apparently.
but L2R is a good thing. ANET is introducing new PvP armor. What’s the point if no one can see it? You must have missed that, so I explained a second time for you.
The whole implementation is bad by ANET. It’s almost like a joke gone bad.

A super easy fix to this. I don’t understand why ANET hasn’t implemented it. Here is what they need to do:
If the match has an even number of players (let’s say 3v3), the next player to join must join the losing team.
There. Implement it.
Well then, let us start betting.
Ill say EU ill win marginally over NA. It will be close.
Yeah right. This will be a blow out. Potentially the best team in the game vs random great US players. Team always wins.
oh man now a complain about mobility…whats next?
There will always be bad players who complain about anything.
Alt F4 as soon as it pops in queue.
(edited by style.6173)
Well, gw2 was launched this May in China. I don’t think 3 months of playing could make them competent for a tournament of this level. Also, no one even knows how those Chinese players are chosen cuz they can’t be found on pvp ranking, which probably means they suck anyway
It wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Team vs PUG. The team will win every time unless the team is really bad. The best team in the game vs PUG is even more embarrassing.
The matchups are a joke. ANET should just randonmly put the 15 players on the 3 teams. At least then we’d have a competition.
Wait, so everyone will look the same? I can’t see the outfit styles of the enemy? They release that at the same time as new PvP reward armor?
Hopefully I am wrong with what I said above. Otherwise, it is just another bad decision.
