It is really sad to see. ANET should be ashamed at what they did to WvW. They took a great gamemode and instead of building it, focused on adding junk like mastery skills.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we will see any change in direction until there is new leadership on the WvW team.
At this point in time it just seems to make sense to cluster the remaining people into however many servers required. Perhaps there only needs to be 6-8 as opposed to 24 to have decent match-ups 24/7.
They don’t even need to do that. Just make the borderlands like eotm and start with one instance of it. As it fills up spawn a new instance to get more players into. All the green servers get paired together, all the red, all the blue.
No, not a perfect solution but it would keep the maps full, and the fights going. Since they’ve released the mega-server there’s not really any server pride to be worried about.
You really don’t get it. This is a horrible idea. People like seeing familiar faces in WvW. They like playing with the same people. The EotM structure is horrible for that.
They need a new map. We haven’t had a new WvW map since launch (EotM is a PvE karma train map and is way too unbalanced to ever be in WvW). People are bored with the same 2 maps every week.
Of all the things needed in PvP, this shouldn’t be at the top of the list. It is easy enough to see when someone is capturing a point or contesting a point. It won’t make yolo players any more likely to do something about it.
I’d be fine with just a nerf to turret engis right now. It just shouldn’t be that easy to do well. It is similar to a spirit ranger before that got nerfed.
Turret engi with a bird. Mind blown.

Bird is annoying, but I’d rather face the bird than a turret engi. Both require the same level of skill to play.

72 hours isn’t long enough. It doesn’t matter whether someone rage quits, get a DC, or their computer blows up. The end result is that it hurts the team. 3 DC in one day is A LOT
MM necro is not op. It’s far too easy to completely negate the minions if you aren’t really really dumb. Makes really kittenty players ok but almost nerfs better players.
Since they semi nerfed dhuum necro could use a little buff somewhere.
Ranger could use some sort of buff.

Turret engis a little nerf maybe just make the turrets less durable?
Hambows and d/d eles are actually fine its just the runes that need to be changed. Strength runes are way to strong.
I’d argue that hambow, d/d eles, and s/d thieves all benefit too much from runes of strength. I disagree with ANET’s decision to shave the rune. The rune should have been removed from PvP and left as-is in WvW and PvE.

Mostly because engi is so easy to play right now. It doesn’t take any skill to drop a turret with the shield and then just run around.
As others have said, only having one hard counter is not balance.
In regular ANET fashion, they messed this up. The runes should have been REMOVED from PvP, and left the way they were in PvE and WvW.
I don’t get why it takes the balance team so long to figure out what is wrong with this game.
At least do something small and fix the worst of the issues. Here is a hint: Adjust engi. It is brain dead easy to play and yet can bunker quite well.
DD is ok for WvW roaming and that is it. It is not viable in team PvP, and is one of the worst at PvE.

thief is the only class that can spam aoe blind fields, this makes them a nightmare for melee classes

i have beat plenty of warriors using black powder and autos/stolen cyclone.
if the warrior moves then either let them leave or go after them and put down another black powder, it has no cooldown and you only need your autos to kill them since thief autos hit like a truck, so you can spam blackpowder repeatedly.
The person above you probably meant “No one good stands in black powder”. That is true. It is also true that a lot of players are bad and will just stand in one spot.

I agree that conditions are too strong, but you go overboard. I also find it strange that the most OP condi, burning, you consider ok.
As long as the flag carrier has its own skill bar. Right now spirit watch is way too unbalanced since some classes are naturally better carriers.

Those forums are just wildly out of sink with the vast majority of GW2 players…no wonder Anet don’t take any notice of them.
Custom arenas and public servers are not the same thing. I’m surprised you do not know that. A public server will always draw more people.
Top rated GvG matchups also pull in 700+ viewers.
Unfortunately, PvP in this game is fun to play, but it is really boring to watch.
Be careful what you wish for. The last two maps were spirit watch and skyhammer. Does that give you any confidence they can design good maps?
ANET needs to stop counting EotM as WvW. It is not. It is just another PvE map. The different is that you can kill people there.

No you can’t have 8v8 back. It was considered too much fun and so it needed to be removed from the game.
Mesmers are weak. They were supposed to be the masters of 1v1 but the power creep destroyed that. Did you watch the mesmers in ToL? They avoided every single 1v1.

Sigh. You can’t judge a Mesmer based on ToL. The best mesmers there had a very specific job to do and were given a spec to play that role. a ToL spec was not a 1v1 spec.

I wouldn’t worry about it much. I’ve noticed that the person who complains the most is usually the worst player on the team. It’s like fat kid syndrome. They learn to attack first so that others don’t pick on them.
My guess is that there are more PvP players right now due to the lack of PvE content and from a recent WvW season ending. The PvE people will leave once the LS stuff begins again.
More troubling though, is that I think the OVERALL number of gw2 players has shrunk quite a bit recently.

I’ve posted this same thing before. Warriors should NOT be able to contest or capture points when under the effect of endure pain. It is broken.
@OP: You really must not play much WvW. In this game mode, balance is centered on group play. The most important classes are in this order:
1. Guardian
2. Ele
3. Warrior
4. Necro
5. Thief for tapping gates
6. Mesmers for veils and pulls
Engis and rangers aren’t needed.
This is easy.
Straight line: warrior. No question about that. a GS warrior is the fastest in the game at running away
Mobility up cliffs/terrain: thief
No one who is any good complains about most thief specs right now. The thief is no longer a required member of top tier teams at this point.
The one exception to the rule is a S/D thief. The amount of evades there is a bit over the top.
Play however you want. There is no right answer.
Personally, if I see a 1v1, I just watch. If my ally loses and the enemy tries to stomp, then I get involved.

ANET: cool, let’s tone that down a little bit and make the new condi turret engi even stronger than the original decap.

@OP: No new boon. Condi damage just needs a nerf.
Make symmetrical maps if balance is a problem.
EoTM is cluttered with way too much stuff. Most WvW players would be happy with blank terrain dotted with a few keeps.
If they would just do that, I imagine testing and balance would be significantly easier than creating dozens of new NPCs, mechanics, seige, consumables etc.
A new map doesn’t have to be a work of art.
This ^^. ANET tries to make things too gimmicky (and also why it takes them a year to implement a map). Just create a symmetrical 3 way map and launch it. It will make players happy and will be much less effort for ANET as well. Everyone wins.

well i heard too many horror stories of 4 v 5 in solo arena, and skyhammer horror stories, etc. so i would avoid solo arena.
team arena is fun with my friends, but nowadays i am the backup player, they only ask me if they do not have enough players.
so i still play hotjoin mostly.
but yeah team arena with 4 other friends is really good, even though we lost the match, it is still a better game.
Just do a solo queue into a team queue match. It is a much better experience than regular solo queue and you don’t need to play spirit watch or skyhammer. Both of those maps are horribly balanced.

I agree. Turrets, minions, and spirits should all see a nerf. All three of those are the lowest skill cap specs in the game. My comments apply to those adds that are created through utility skills, or are passive through a rune set.
I personally do NOT have a problem with any adds that come from an elite skill. The cooldown is much longer which means the player needs to think much more about the timing of using the skill.

There is nothing you can do with wvw…. you can’t control it. it’s not esport.
and tbh wvw is more like a place where pve er come to get some fight though like hot join in spvp.
This is the problem. ANET has implemented some new things. Unfortunately, they are not what the players want.
ANET realizes they went in the wrong direction. That’s why the WvW lead isn’t visible here anymore. He told forums users that they did not represent the interest of the players. When it was proved that the forum users knew more about WvW than ANET, the WvW lead disappeared.
The big question is whether the next WvW update brings something of value or if they just release some new mastery skills.
We need to see how FA does in T2. I’d like to see how they compete.

The mistake ANET made was even discussing EotM in the same sentence as WvW. They are completely different.
EotM
—This is a PvE map. You have a variety of more difficult NPCs to fight.
—Karma training. The rewards are much better here.
—Ganking. People use this map for farming or to level new characters. That makes roaming really easy since you can kill a lot of uplevels or PvE type people.
WvW
—Poor rewards
—More strategy
—More sense of community

Most people don’t roam around. They fight as part of a zerg. Try it sometime and watch how many condis get added to you. It doesn’t matter how much condi removal you have since they can automatically be reapplied. That causes most people to run food that will reduce condi duration.
Condi is OP at the moment. That is true even for roaming.
From my understanding they’ve decided to do balance patches much less frequently. Give the meta a chance to develope by itself and what not. As for other things I think they’re having the game in a brief intermission till season 2.
lolol. This definitely made me laugh. I agree with you that this is probably the opinion of the dev team. Unfortunately for the players, this is also the lazy approach. It is pretty obvious already how the meta has evolved.
What PvP needs:
1. A balance team that speaks less in cliche and focuses more on results
2. A map design team that understands that simple is better than more gimmicky.
3. A matchmaking team that understands how to better pair opponents
4. A PvP team that understands how to build long term incentives to get people to play.

Are you serious? They would have to release balance patches in order to nerf something to completely useless. At their current rate of 1 balance patch every 6 months, you have nothing to worry about.

Since Week 11, the server I am on has faced another server every week. Last time I checked, this is week 24. 13 WEEKS!! Needless to say, if you don’t think that the WvW matchups are broken, you have lost your mind.
Fix this before it ruins WvW. I’m sure that there are other match-ups that have gone about the same length of time and they would like to see some different opponents.

Hearing the words ‘’PvP is close to what we want it to be’’ feels extremely dissatisfying to me..

Seriously though, I don’t see how anyone can have confidence in the future of this game. The balance team doesn’t seem to know what to do (and it takes them 6 months to implement the wrong changes). The map designers are getting worse (Let’s be honest, the last two maps, Spirit Watch and Skyhammer are the two most unbalanced maps out there). The matchmaking is horrible.
ANET still has time to fix things, but they need to show some sense of urgency. Right now, that doesn’t exist. They are losing people to other NCsoft games.
