As someone who doesn’t care about PvP, PvP ruins everything. Everyone had a different story. According to guardian players, True Shot had too obvious of a tell, seeing as it rooted you in place, and players easily dodged it. Other classes complained that there was no tell and they got hit for too much damage. I’m thinking they were just bad. Either way, it sucked to have a nice PvE skill nerfed into the ground because some people were bad at dodging.
They did state though that there have been a number of changes/bug fixes based on feedback, they just weren’t including those in the stress test.
I did have fun running around doing events and having Tome of Justice refresh thanks to Renewed Justice. If I could make one tweak though, I’d have Renewed Justice give you back a spent page if you were still in the tome on enemy death. That way you weren’t “wasting” it if you didn’t drop out prior to death.
I found it odd that guardian/firebrand didn’t end up with any barrier period. I kind of think barrier would be a good fit with Azure Sun (Resolve 3), the one that applies regeneration. It would be like a buffer to help allies end up with a net gain of health during combat without resorting to a longer regeneration or adding a direct heal element to it.

Bug: Unrelenting Criticism causes all attacks (including utilities like spirit weapons) to have a chance to cause bleeding, not just axe skills.
Unrelenting Criticism gives any attack a chance to bleed, not just axe skills.

Unrelenting criticism appears to be making every attack have a chance to cause bleed, not just axe skills. Weapon skills, utility skills, etc.
Permeating wrath seems to be working just fine for me. I pulled out a scepter and auto-attacked a single golem from range. After a few hits the burns started stacking on the surrounding golems.
Hammer of Wisdom does not act this way. It still connects if I don’t have line of sight because it was able to path to the enemy. The idea that a summon at the enemy’s location will hit or whiff depending on if I’m peeking out at them or not is silly. Do ranger pets or necro minions only hit if the player has line of sight?
The individual hits of Sword of Justice require line of sight as of the 8/17 patch. You can activate it while behind an obstacle, it will spawn the weapon which will start spinning, but a “No line of sight” message will appear. If you move out from the behind the obstacle before it stops attempting to hit, you can score hits.
The attached screenshot demonstrates this. I ran circles around the rock casting Sword of Justice a few times leading to all of the “No line of sight” messages. I stopped moving after the final cast, allowing Sword of Justice to land the final two strikes as the raptor came into line of sight.
They fixed the bug with Sword of Justice missing if you are attacking today. Sadly, they bugged out the applying of burning when Eternal Armory is traited. Posted it to the bugs forum.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/8-16-Sword-of-Justice-broken-again
Since today’s patch, Sword of Justice no longer applies burning when Eternal Armory is traited.
Also, hammer was updated to scale with power, but not Sword of Justice. What’s up with that? I’ve read from multiple sources that the API states Sword of Justice is also supposed to scale.
I didn’t see it mentioned here, but the tooltip for Symbol of Vengeance says it only affects three targets versus the usual five for a symbol. I’m hoping that’s just a tooltip error.
Raptor was amazing, but two changes I’d like to see.
- The ability to talk to at least some NPCs without dismounting
- Increase the amount of XP required to level the tiers.
I know people thought HoT required too much (and maybe it did), but these tiers were a fraction of HoT (like 180k for the first?) and filled up much too quickly. I can only imagine how trivial they would be with an XP booster.
The patch this afternoon fixed the Eternal Armory trait. Sword of Justice now applies four burn stacks if all swings hit. Running Radiance 1/2/1, I got up to 17 burn stacks for a split second between Spear of Justice, Zealot’s Flame/Fire, and Sword of Justice. I don’t have any condition damage or expertise, so if you have increased condition duration, you could probably get even more stacks.
I just came to report the Eternal Armory bug myself. I never saw it apply burning. I thought I did once, but it turned out I still had Radiant Fire selected as a trait. Ever since I disabled that and made sure to pop justice before testing, it never burned a thing.
Eternal Armory appears to be bugged in the fact that it does not cause burning. I made sure to pop my Virtue/Spear of Justice first with no target and switched away from Radiant Fire. No matter how many times I activated Hammer of Wisdom or Sword of Justice, no burning was ever applied.
Loving these changes though. I can’t think of the last time I played around with so many traits, skills, and even mixed up my weapons so much.
Dude, if you would have spent some time running around the LS3 zones instead of typing all of the essay replies in here, you’d have a few ascended trinkets by now.
There are maps out there with optimized paths for gathering on these zones. Hell, in Bloodstone Fen, you can knock out two dailies within like 30 seconds. Jump off the airship, spam the abilities (but yes, you’d have to earn them first), and collect the unbound magic laid out in the path before you. You’ll usually even find a node or two along the way.
But if scepter auto attack wasn’t a projectile, then I’d lose the new projectile effects I just got thanks to the recent Meteorlogicus update.
So, if they introduced dwarves, would they be limited to only day forward content? And how would that even work? Do they need a completely different set of dialog for dwarves because it’s not like Dragon’s Watch can pretend that a dwarf was around to kill Zhaitan, Scarlet, Mordremoth, etc. unless we just stick our fingers in our ears and just pretend the dwarves have been available since go live.
There is no way to fit a new playable race without throwing continuity of the window and recording a boatload of back dialog or giving them a very modified version of the story going forward and excluding them from participating in older content.
Edited as I figured out what’s going on!
The Lava Skull Backpack causes display issues when previewing, at least for my male Norn guardian. The first time I preview it, the backpack and also my weapons are smaller in size. If I preview it a second time, the backpack and my weapons become the proper size.

I enjoyed both the story and the map. But there are five simple words that are driving me nuts.
“No valid path to target.”
With the way the terrain is modeled, even if I am standing in melee range, whacking away at an enemy, I can’t activate Symbol of Blades because the enemy is on a rock a couple inches higher than my player. If some of the terrain could be smoothed out a little, that would go a long way.
The only time combat speed drives me nuts is when it makes me miss a jump on tiny platforms in fractals. But there’s no need for it to go away or be reduced. As has been stated, it’s there to try to dissuade you from just running past everything.
MMO players have it easy these days. Back in my day, enemies didn’t have tether ranges. They also moved as fast as you. If you aggroed a powerful mob and didn’t have enough endurance to sprint away from it, you were done for. Then you lost XP and had to walk fifteen miles in the snow to pray at your grave to get some of it back.
Don,t worry, if we can light up the megadestroyer like an australian forest, lesser destroyers are gonna be burnt to a crisp.
Kinda strage that destroyers in gw2 aren’t immune to burning
But most of them are. The Megadestroyer isn’t, but the regular destroyers you find around Mount Maelstrom are. It makes me sad as a dragonhunter seeing “Immune, Immune, Immune, Immune” popping up as I fight them.
If we do end up with a Primordus themed expansion, I hope they change this as it would be obnoxious to have so many enemies immune to a condition like that.
I ran the daily 21 with a PUG today. I foolishly assumed people would know what is up. Nope. I’m trying to run two wisps during the final phase because no one is going near the northeast. I’m yelling “someone go NE!” which was met with “can’t we just stand in one spot instead of moving around?” Thankfully at 21, the wipe move isn’t powerful enough to wipe you and after four wisp resets or so they manged to coordinate. Next time I will definitely ask people to call out wisps ahead of time.
They’re trying to reduce visual clutter. They figured everyone wanted to see everyone’s PvP rank all of the time (unlike world completion or mastery level), so something had to go.
Fun fact: Ley-line armor was originally called Stink-line armor.
Does this apply differently to ground targeted AoEs? On numerous occasions, I have dropped Symbol of Swiftness under my character (while stacked with many others, for example, in WvW) and not a single pulse of the symbol applied swiftness to me. I started with zero swiftness and ended with zero swiftness.
The only other factor here is that I was not in a party at the time. But it would be silly to expect that the caster him/herself would get zero priority just on the basis of not belonging to a party (well, to me, at least).
So, you’re saying that PvE players should be able to complete the same hero challenges over and over again on one character and tell it to unlock the elite specializations on their other characters? Because that’s the equivalent of allowing you to play one character in WvW and unlock all of the hero challenges/elite specs for all of your alts without actually earning them as that character.
Check the tooltips on them. It could be that the chests have different rewards in them.
I had two fractal chests that didn’t stack from today’s FoTM dailies. Why? They had different tooltip descriptions. One had a fractal research page and the other didn’t. According to the rewards listed when hovering on today’s achievements, both chests should have contained a fractal research page. I opened the one, and sure enough, no page.
Only feasible way to ascended = credit card?

If you have HoT, gold shouldn’t be an issue. When HoT dropped, I had 250G. I’m currently sitting at 520G. I was having fun in fractals, so I finally decided to start crafting ascended armor. I only have two pieces left to go. I collected all of the ore for the deldrimor myself, but buy all of the leather/cloth. I’ll drop a boatload on buy orders for the mats, but then by the end of my play session I’ll be right back where I started.
Just gather, gather, gather. Wood makes good money these days. Just from picking up and refining the soft wood I see when doing a rich iron run, I make a few gold in like twenty minutes. Even green wood is worth chopping these days if you see it. And as mentioned earlier, HoT = expensive mats. Also, just look through your material collection and see if you have things you don’t need. If you aren’t going to craft a particular stat combo, sell it. You might be amazed the number of expensive mats you have deposited that are just sitting around making you nothing.
If they removed all of these gold sources why do I have 250 more gold than I did when HoT launched? I’ve dropped a good 100+G on crafting materials for ascended gear as well in the last few days alone, but I keep going back to my previous levels from selling ectos and other materials from running HoT events, gathering, workd boss fights, etc. I’m not playing any differently than I did before.
+1… need a mini mini Taimi in gem store
Considering the trouble existing minis have with keeping up with your character, I’d imagine it would need to be Taimi riding on top of Scruffy.
As someone mentioned, definitely hit the guaranteed rich iron nodes. There are at least seven which are very quick and painless to get to (no jumping puzzles, running too far, etc.) which can net you about 3.5g a day at current prices, and even more when you run into nodes along the way to them.
Have you tried turned your graphics settings down? I used to run max settings all of the time without problems. Since HoT hit, I crashed every single time during Teq until I followed the recommendations from others of turning the settings down. I select best performance, turn the sampling back up to native, enable AA, and bump the model settings to medium.
The game is nowhere near as pretty, but I haven’t crashed during Teq or a large HoT map ever since. When I’m done with a crash prone event/map, I bump my settings back up and go about my day with a pretty looking game.
From what I’d gathered the Elite weren’t being billed as the progression. It was the masteries.
What? They named both masteries and elite specializations as their new progression systems since they first announced the expansion.
The official HoT web site says (emphasis theirs)
Specializations are our brand-new way for you to progress, unlock, and grow your character’s profession abilities, adding nine entirely new ways to play exclusive to Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Elite specializations allow you to evolve your existing level 80 characters by training the ability to use a new weapon, new traits, new skills, and a twist on your standard profession mechanic.
I’m also in the never-crashed-until-HoT-came-out crowd. Since I last upgraded my hardware last year, I’ve always run with all of the graphical settings maxed out. I ran Teq numerous times with these settings with no problems. Then HoT released and I crashed with an OOM error every time I ran Teq—every time that is, until I lowered my graphical settings to just slightly above the lowest settings possible. Once I did that, I haven’t crashed during Teq once.
Does this mean they need a 64-bit client? Not necessarily. There may just be something in the newer builds that needs corrected as the game didn’t see to have trouble managing its memory properly before that. But a 64-bit client couldn’t hurt.
Might not be a bug, but…
Protip: If you get a message that new build is coming in ten minutes, don’t do your guild
hall claiming mission! It won’t count and you’ll have to do it all over again.
I’ve only attempted Teq twice since HoT hit. Every time it seems to crash when he takes off at 25% health. Tonight, I crashed, signed back in to find multiple guild mates saying they had just crashed (they were in a different map instance). Then everyone in the empty map I hopped into started saying “I just crashed”, “me too” in map chat. It seems lots of people are all crashing at the same time.
I have to agree about the rewards. Sometimes only a handful of people head to the canopy. You end up with a long boss fight that IIRC basically pays out the same as a champ. I don’t know if people get the achievements for killing the bosses and then don’t bother any more or what.
While I don’t mind this batch of changes, as someone who has no interest in PvP, I hope traps don’t get totally nerfed into the ground because “e-sports”. Still though, as everyone says, they sure want us to just stick with Renewed Focus, don’t they?
I’ve run into this a few times during the Pale Reaver event chain. It’s always the event for escorting Laranthir through the ruins. I do this from start to finish, but Skybreaker ends up getting delayed. So, there I am on the top of the cliff with Laranthir, killing boars to kill time, when I go inactive. Maybe next time I’ll run along with Skybreaker next time as it seems barely anyone does.
I encountered two issues with boss fights bugging out in Hearts and Minds.
The Eir fight (bugged out in my favor)
I defeated Gairm at the edge of the room. Eir kept trying to rez him, but she just kept going in and out of the crouch down pose. It took a while because this didn’t put her in a vulnerable state, but I was able to whittle down her health.
The Canach fight
During one of the phases where Canach was supposed to reflect grenades because the boss went invuln, he just stood there doing nothing. Since he won’t reflect, the boss stays invuln. After I died, he started running around again, but the boss still had the invulnerable buff, so I had no option but to log out.
Agate Orb does not have a spot in the collections tab, while the other new orbs do.
I don’t know if this is qualifies as a bug or not, but it seems impossible to complete the item “Escorted Laranthir through Ruins” under the Pale Reaver Believer achievement. I have done this event numerous times, however it also requires Skybreaker to make it to her destination.
The group that goes with Laranthir ends up at the top of the ruins, waiting for Skybreaker. Eventually the event grays out and if I mouseover it tells me that I am not longer participating in the event due to inactivity. It could not be due to not touching my keyboard as I was moving around, killing time by killing boards in the waiting area. Eventually Skybreaker makes it to her destination and the event completes, going on to the final event in the chain. Yet I do not receive any credit for the escort mission.
It’s pretty frustrating that I have participated in this event chain from start to finish numerous times, but get zero credit for this particular event because our NCP was playing the waiting game waiting for the other.

You could always go into Windows Task Scheduler and create a task to launch the game in the middle of the night so that it updates itself. Then when you have a chance to play, you can start it up and hopefully have only hotfixes to download.
Again, they always described it as a progression system. If you didn’t expect to have to unlock your skills and traits (like you had to for your core skills and traits), what method of progression did you expect to unlock the new skills and traits? And don’t tell me you envisioned paying $50 and talking to an NCP as a form of progression.
From the very announcement of the expansion they referred to the mastery and elite specializations as progression systems. If you are somehow surprised that you have to do things in game to progress your character, you should buy a dictionary as you don’t know what progression means.

So, to sum up this thread so far…
VerucaSalt.4753I want it now!
I like the idea of reducing cooldowns on some skills or making them more useful. There are a lot of utility skills I’ve never touched as I’ve never felt a use for them.
Also, comedy answer:
Symbolic Avenger renamed to Come on, Baby, Light my Fire. When traited, you deal 10% more damage to enemies in your symbols, and all symbols are considered fire fields. Now you can blast your hammer auto-attacks all day for might instead of getting yelled at for dropping light fields.
