Returning player needs some help!

Hey guys, I played GW2 during living world season one but I haven’t touched it sense then (about 2… 2 1/2 years). I randomly got the bug to come back and see what’s up so I started playing again last week, when I played before I had a lvl 80 engineer and and a lvl 80 necromancer. This time around I rolled an elementalist, but honestly 45 lvls in I think I chose the wrong class for me…

Ele is cool and all and I know they are good at a lot of stuff but their defense is just a little to “active” for my play style… My big question is in the current meta what classes have the best passive defense? I was considering warrior or guardian but thought I should reach out to the community first.

If it makes a big difference I just plan on playing the personal story then running through HoT and living world stuff. I’m not big into WvW or PvE and this game isn’t the main one I play so I don’t have a ton of time to raid.

Hey forum, just returning to gw2 after a loooong break and after doing the new content I’m going to level one of my alts (main is engi)

I here that elementalist is the top dps in the current meta… Is this true? Is it just because of FGS, or do we have the best overall dps?

Depends on what you really want to do, I know people always say that but with engi it’s so true. This professions strongest trait is that it can be customized for any occasion.

PVE zerker grenade build still probably.
PVP depends on if your a point holder, bunker, roamer, you get the idea.
WVW depends on if your a zerger, defender, roamer…

I do t like the way kits look ( lame reason I know) so I run a rifle SD build, 0/4/0/4/6 build editors aren’t updated so I can’t link the full build. I do well with roaming in WVW and ok in PVE.

I would grab the rifle traits from firearms, invigorating speed and protection injection for alchemy, and th normal SD & Speedy Kits from tools.

But really, turrets are not the defining trait of an engineer… at all. People are using them now with “hope” that there even close to viable.

Some people have had luck using them as utility in pvp builds (jebro)

As I was watching this I could not help but think OMG this would be sick with P/S you could really annoy any ranged and force them into your KB zone. Sure it would miss the KB from rifle (and i do love my rifle) but your surviveability would go up.

Also I would love to see the condition variant, post some vids bro!

Howdy all,

Im used to playing my Static Discharge zerker build but its been a few months seance I was active. Im wondering if there are any “meta” power build’s build for WvW small group & roaming.

Im really just looking to see if there are any new gimmicks i need to be aware of. A friend told me to look into gadgets and the new grand master tools trait. Any ideas forum?

Turrets are not pets… plain and simple. Rangers are the only true “pet” class, even Necromancer (my main btw) isn’t a true pet class. Necromancers have minions and its a bit more like mobile turrets.

My point in saying this is simply that the idea that turrets should be able to “handle” stuff on there own is simply not in the design of the game.

Turrets are simply putt a “utility” skill, in the truest meaning of the word. Turrets are actually very useful and now with some minor buffs (i wont call them fixes, cuz there not) they operate quite well in certain situations.

Rifle Turret is great for SD builds as it has a quick cd toolbelt skill.
Flame Turret is pretty kitten in condi builds focusing on burn.
Thumper Turret is great for stability and it provides 2x blast finishers, now its a good source of protection as well.
Net Turret constant imob, and now swiftness/vigor as well (this skill is actually quite good)
Rocket Turret has a nice knockdown element adding control and now that means quickness as well.

Now they can all do those things at the same time as most of the effects i mentioned are traited but there are maybe ways turrets can fit into your build. No you cant just drop them all with supply crate for crazy burst damage, but you were never ment too. Thats just not how Engi works… sorry.

I don’t know if another invulnerable on a class that already has so many blocks/heals/vigor ect ect ect is prudent. I could see a small AoE bubble that reflects projectiles instead of just the cone.

Ill agree with zerker in PvE but in PvP/WvW you should run something else. Unless your roaming then who cares about you lol.

Just to point this out… when you die in a zergball because your wearing zerker gear, the other team gets a Rally.

the new Amplified Wrath trait makes guardians kind of the king of burning, in a large group you will probably not be able to keep it up…. but welcome to GW2. This is not a Guardian problem alone.

Hey all, im just coming back after a few months and dang… a lot has changed. I dont really want to play any of my current 80s (Necro, Engi, & War) so im thinking of dusting off my Guardian!

Build Idea/Questions

The burning guardian.
The new trait Amplified Wrath looks like it has potential, Im thinking of combining it with 6x Superior Rune of Balthazar and Dire/Carrion gear for a condi build.

This would be the build:
6/6/0/0/2
Zeal: II Fiery Wrath, X Eternal Spirit, XIII Amplified Wrath.
Radiance: V Searing Flames, VII Radiant Fire, VIII A Fire Inside.
Virtues: V Improved Spirit-Weapon Duration.

Skills: Hammer of Wisdom, Sword of Justice, Judge’s Intervention, & Tome of Wrath.

I feel like this would allow me to keep burning up almost 100% on multiple targets, while still putting out good direct damage. I have no clue what weapons to use, also I feel like I might be too glassy.

I would like to use conditions and the new Amplified Wrath but im new to guardian so any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

I would love to see 20 turret engis in wvw, just of the fun of it. Can’t imagine what a Zerg would think if they all dropped supply crate at the same time. Don’t know that it would really be effective, but funny as hell lol.

Interesting theme, I beleave you can just buy beer and chug it while running arroind btw so you done have to use engi. Not saying you shouldn’t or anything engi is a fun class, the HGH Condition build is a staple of sorts in pvp\wvw. In pve conditions are lacking… So are elixers.

Also you can easily run SD rifle builds. Sure nades may slightly out dps SD but the rotation is easy and the burst is berry nice.

I run SD for roaming and pve world events, I’ll switch to nades in coordinated groups and fractals.

I’ll agree with this, although I did not use grenades while leveling (not that there had mind you I just didn’t lol) bomb kit is your bread and butter. You are a solo machine able to take on literally ANYTHING with the right tools and some patience. Also turrets have recently been buffed so… We will see if this is enough to add another layer to high end playstyle, time will tell.

I ran with an engineer last night that was almost full support with all turrets, this was in pve btw.

It was pretty awesome he could keep protection, fury, and vigor up about 90% on the group and shared about 9-12 stacks of might. Honestly I’m sure there’s a build here for support that has more potent than guardians is used right.

Right now I’m running with Parasitic Consumption, I know it’s not super godlike but I think it’s a well ballanced trait. I’m using 6/4/0/0/4 as a trait mix now (pretty much the old terrormancer build) with Nightmare runes (omgkitten!!?)

My other 2 ideas revolve around multiple life leech traits to help sustain. 6/4/0/4/0 but I’m not sure if bloodthirst will effect Parasitic Contagen, anyone test this?

Idea #3 is a play on my old condition/pet build 6/4/0/4/0 with vampiric master I would keep using CC because… Duh, and I would get rid of ol’ smoky for Eledimic.

These are just the builds I’m playing with, I am interested in the Parasitic Contagen trait obviously. I’m so interested in the new unholy sanctuary & unholy martyr combo for a bunker build.

WvW dueling/roaming I would probably run S/D fresh air, lots of guides out there. A close runner up is still D/D but it’s not quite as powerfull as it was (still a great spec though)

S/D is great 1v1 but plan on running from most 1vx fights, I run with a buddy or 2 so S/D works great. D/D bunkers are good in 1vx battles and for trolling groups, IMO easyer to play and more forgiving but slightly less rewarding. All just personal opinion though.

Can’t link a build because in on my phone but I run a glass cannon SD roaming build and if your good it works great!

Build is 0/30/0/10/30 or the more defensive 0/20/10/10/30

I do use Tool Kit but you “could” go without, it’s just nice with SD because of Throw Wrench and and extra block from Gear Shield.

if its pve bombs are most likely most effective however if you on a party and someone’s tanking and holding more than 5 monsters at a time go for nades as they can hit up to 15 targets theorically

Dire trinkets add precision btw, that paired with the 200-300 from traits will give you around 25% crit IMO that’s enough.

If you tried to take ANet to court over your “rights”, you’d get absolutely shut down. Why? Because you don’t actually have any rights. You are given a few specific rights, generally allowing you access to the game and its various services as they are at the moment you sign the agreement. NCSOFT, however, has the right to change the service at any point, which means you must then agree again to the same thing again, and they also reserve the right to take away your few limited rights for nearly any reason they deem deserving.

BTW if we actually go by the digital sale of goods act, a-net is doing something illegal by not allowing client side modding (like riot, the guys with the most played game on the world, went so far to hide their client side data that people no longer use custom skins and didnt ban anyone for using them despite knowing what happens since the client does send data to the server of the opened files, *even if you can still use em if you open the directory, because they knew they would get their kitten whooped if anyone bothered to go to court with it), because in all rights we have a transaction of valuables and stuff like permabanning for anything that aint disrupting the server side data flow is called information fraud, you know the stuff that exists since virtual money so that noone may prevent you from using data you own except if you are like a prisoner or in a police investigation.

Also being forced to accept to patch terms is also a violation of the funny enough named unfair contract terms act which prevents companies to create illusions of choice but chosing the status quo option actually prevents you from doing anything with what is on your side of the contact anymore: e.g. If you say accept we take 50% of your earnings from shop x, if you decline all previous contracts are nulllified and you owe us everything you earned.

This is all true but they have a nifty TOS “Terms of Service” that no one bothers to read, in there it states that anyone breaking the outlined TOS foregoes the right to any digital property purchased. Riot didn’t think to add this in the beginning but Anet has it all there, they can ban you for whatever reason they deem fit and it’s 100% ok. Your not even entitled to a refund.

Conditions are already strong in PvP and for good reason, this upcoming balance patch will see an even stronger condition meta. Overall healing effectiveness of HS is honestly being improved, or should be lol, with the passive taking a small (8%) hit and the active getting buffed (% TBA) now you have burst healing for OH KITTEN moments.

There have been a few times on my warrior when HS just wasn’t enough and I knew I was going to die/lose long before I did… If I had some comeback healing then battles would be a lot more fun, I’m willing to take an 8% hit for that.

I wonder if the balance patch will be a buff to condi meta. I might be wrong but they are nerfing the stats gained from stacking different type of runes. I remember in my condi warrior days I was able to get a lot of duration from 2 runes of different type. I have the feeling that this rune/sigil change might hit the condi meta harder than we expect.

They are nerfing crits burst by 10%, poison duration(thief/engi) and immobilise on engi turret/warr pin down :.( . I have the feeling that signet will be just fine.

First off I’m just adding this is @ wolverine ( I saw you quite me and basiclh call me dumb… I’m ignoring your Ignorance bro)

And for the conditions “buff” what I meant to say was that a nerf to the way crit damage works (yet TBD how bad) will simply make conditions that much stronger. They are not getting buffed as far as I know, mostly indirect. Also the sigil stacking is going to be interesting, sure stat on kill sigil won’t stack but now all others do! IMO this is a win, running earth and torment, or energy ect. Good stuff for both power and condi specs

They may have fixed it but Sigil of Torment was bugged and did not share a CD with other on Crit Sigils. Also one of the changes they mentioned with the new update was separating Sigil CDs (from the notes i read it looks like they will only share a CD with the same sigil, i.e. 2x sigil of earth)

Anyhoo that’s why I had that in there, if I had to change it I would go with Energy.

THe max you can get with that fear is probably around 9 sec… still strong though.

Max condition duration cap is 100% 4.5 × 2 (or + 100%) = 9

Also when you epidemic your condition duration will effect the base spell not the buffed version so 2 × 4.5 not 2 × 9

Still a fun combo, and fear stacks so you can drop your fear chain before epidemic for a longer chain.

My best friend worked on the development/testing team for Bethesda and the general MMO rule is: When you have a balance patch every class should be changed. The reason is simply so that everyone feels equal. The issue with this is that not all classes are created equal so sometimes a class is “fine” and receives “changes” that do nothing. (Like buffing life stealing by .025%)

When this happens too often it creates problems in the class, Necromancers may balance alright when compared with the overall game but they are a joke when compared to other classes.

The idea of uniting the community is just to say loudly “HEY!” the development team knows the issues with the current state of necromancer better than anyone, there not dumb. Necromancer is simply not a priority and we need to try and fix that.

With the new changes to Dhuumfire I am reworking my Terror build and i wanted to get some early feedback from the community

Taking 0/30/20/0/20 I lose burning and 30% condition duration for fear on disable extra condition removal (lol) and toughness. Also i pick up chill on blind (love this with plague)

Using Runes of the Necromancer + Koi Cakes and the Master of Terror trait I easily get the 100%+ to fear

I feel like this build has more surviveability and more passive defense (extra Fears) but there are a few things i could change. For instance picking up Lingering Curse Instead of Chilling Darkness or Picking up the staff traits in Death Magic instead of extra fear, what do you guys think?

P.S. I don’t think Dhuumfire is dead i just prefer to use DS more strategically, not just to proc burn. Also now that the overall effectiveness of burn has diminished I would like to see the nerfs to Terror be reverted (wont happen but still)

I use full Dire and i still have around 30% crit Traits + Dire trinkets (they have precision)

My build is the good ol’ 30/20/0/0/20 Terrormancer build. I find 30% crit more than enough to proc “Dumbfire” and Sigil of Earth. Honestly im not even sure Rabid would do more damage, a little maybe but not much.

P.S. with the upcoming changes to Dhuumfire Im thinking of changing to an even more defensive build 0/30/20/0/20 with givers weapons (gotta get that 100% fear duration)

On top of boss CC and condition spike, the honest truth is that an evenly matched Engineer stands no chance against a Condition Necromancer.

I had the same opinion up until 1-2 months ago. The engi I met played some weird power build with zero points in alchemy. He didn’t have a single boon.. ever, so there was hardly anything to exploit or counter as a necro. Plus, his controll and skill timing was just epic. Not only did I have a hard time against him, but he was almost undefeated the entire evening in the obsidian sanctum arena.

Mind you, this was in WvW, not sure if his build would’ve worked in sPvP as well.
Also, in tPvP you have a different approach to builds. Many engis run some bunker/decap-thingy-whatever-build. This makes total sense in tPvP because you can hold a point for a very long time. Even if you fight alone against 2-3 people initially, you’ll get team support at some point. In a WvW duel you don’t have to decap/contest a point or are under any time constraints. Those bunker engis would probably die to a necro eventually, even if it takes 2 min.

I play a SD burst build on my Engi and I don’t really have issues with Necromancers, what I should have said (meant too lol) was that a Condition Engineer would lose to a Condition Necromancer.

Im not sure why you would take this ability even if it was fixed, In PvE its fine, In WvW its useless even if it was instant cast, In sPvP im not sure… maybe

The reason its useless in WvW is that you get rezzed when an enemy is downed so going to downed state is the worst thing you could do in a zerg. Simply build tough and dont rez the nubs = winning

This is just asking for a ban.

Necros aren’t in bad shape atm, and if you look at every class subforum you’ll always find people who feel that their class is the one most neglected by Anet.

Also, once you have something more concrete than “lack of vision and effort”, just write it in the professions balance forum. That’s probably the best way to get your opinion heard.

Just to be clear, I am not pulling for any “Buffs” if you read other posts by me largely I defend the devs and agree that Necromancer is in an “ok” state strength wise. (ehh..)

We lack exactly what i said we lack “Vision and Concept” for instance the last patch saw minor improvements to life steal and the next will see a nerf… do they want us to have life steal or not? Also the devs state that Necromancer is an attrition class and its clear that we are not, most effective builds revolve around burst. Then there is the whole condition’s in PvE balance that has never even been commented on as far as I know.

And as I stated, this is a Social Experiment I just want to see what the community does… if you dont want to take part, then dont.

Besides any engi playing condition… or any condition class in general will have a hard time with condition necros. We have 3 condition transfers a few great cleanses and even a condition converter.

On top of boss CC and condition spike, the honest truth is that an evenly matched Engineer stands no chance against a Condition Necromancer.

The idea is fairly simple, get a large group of Necromancer’s together and we all flood Anet with

-Social Media Post on there facebook and twitter feeds calling for change
-Forum Posts Create hundreds of posts calling for change
-In Game Protest Gather necros on your server and group up in city’s all over tyria to call for action
-YouTube Create a video and post it where the devs will see it

And any other ideas you come up with, it sounds kind of silly honestly but we could really make a change if its done right.

Here is what im asking of you… for now DO NOTHING! just send me a msg on the forum or post here with a simple “im in” if we get enough interest by the end of the month ill putt up a website where we can discuss what to do. If all of this could happen in one day all at once Anet would have no choice but to do SOMETHING.

I have been reading a lot of posts that are complaining about the upcoming changes to the Necromancer class or should I say lack of upcoming changes. Overall it does feel like there is a lack of vision and honestly a lack of effort put forth from the development team at Anet when it comes to Necromancers.

An idea was put forth to simply have a ton of people stop playing the class and role something else, forcing the development team to change necros (I assume in some minds that means give us buffs.)

I say no way, we love our class, KEEP PLAYING! My idea is more of a social experiment if you love your necromancer but your frustrated with the current state of the class then I challenge you to become apart of the Rise Up movement (lol) I feel silly saying this but honestly we could make an impact if we unite the community and cry out on every level possible.

You all know how to solve this problem.

This is the most unimaginative way to effect change, Think of Anet as the government and we the people need to rise up lol.

Im joking but in all seriousness a necro community I say KEEP PLAYING necro, but think about realistic changes (most ideas are just flat out unbalanced) then we as a comunity pull together and bomb anet with Videos, Forum Post, Social Media, Websites, In Game Protest rally (lol) you name it… all in one day so we are heard.

just a taught… might be fun, and i think necros have the kind of die hard community that could do it.

That depends largely on your team comp.

I do exactly the same thing and I usually run a power/crit SD burst build focus ting on mobility over survivability. I’m able to take out priority targets in team fights and tip the scale of the encounter. There may be better builds but I have predator so I like SD LOL.

We also run with a RL friend that plays necromancer, when doing this I like to run a condition build (perplexity) and our THF switches to torment venom share this allows us to obliterate teams with epidemic but it requires coordinated play.

There is a bug with the sigil of torment, it does NOT share a cool down with sigil of earth. It’s overall power is best used as a “cover” condition but the fact that it won’t mess with bleed procs from earth make it a powerful offhand sigil. As far as runes, torment runes are wack there are many better choices, like perplexity (for the right build)

I run SD with mod ammo and it usually counts for about 8-10% bonus damage but in certain situations it can count for 20%+ bonus damage and its freaking amazing.

Take Napalm if your build focuses on burn… simple nuff

Were talking about balance here, the content looks cool.

There seem to be a whole bunch of things that were discussed in the developer livestream that simply didn’t happen. Like for instance having 2 sigils on 2handed weapons, and the rune/sigil rework that was going to happen.

Did i miss something, because i was expecting that in the 1/21 patch.

Transmute + HT is enough for me, I miss my condition mini pupation from Necro but engi has sustainability. Also I usually play a power burst build so I can beat necros. As a condi engineer you should almost always elide to a Necro that’s even awake.
