I just wanted to update everyone on where we stand with this. So far we have found a single bug with the system that is causing certain players to get stuck in a state of reduced rewards without actually exploiting. A fix for this has already been made and is being tested locally now. We are going to do more significant testing on this new version but we also believe it is more bulletproof to begin with. Please keep posting data as these cases are somewhat rare and are hard for us to find with internal testing but seem to be exposed quickly when thousands of people are playing the dungeons.

All rewards are susceptible to our code that is dealing with people who are speed clearing dungeons. This means that if you are speed clearing and then play some new chain for the first time it may not reward the full 60 tokens. If you find yourself getting less rewards consider whether or not your rate of dungeon completion is extremely high.

If you think you are running at a fairly reasonable pace post all of the chains you have run and the time of day they were completed and we will file it to try and figure out if it is a bug. Please post accurate times, otherwise we cannot determine if there are in fact bugs in the system. Please continue to use this thread as a place to post this data so that we have it all in one location.

Try sword + pistol. Let Shodd eat the opening fireball, and use pistol whip + black powder to keep the veterans blind and/or dazed. I was able to do the quest first try with no kiting or healing, though Shodd managed to grab aggro from the harpy early so it was pretty easy from there.

Hey everyone. We are currently investigating the issue with dungeon rewards not being awarded properly, and will be implementing a fix as soon as it is available. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to bring it to our attention, as well as those who have provided as much information as they can to help isolate the problem!

If you run into this issue in the meantime, please make note of the rewards you received in respect to others in your party and list that information here. Please be sure to include the name of the dungeon, as well as any insight into what other dungeons you have run with an approximate time that they were completed (i.e. 16 hours ago, 3 hours ago, etc.).

I know it’s frustrating, but it’s a bug at the end of the game for players on one of 3 different paths, so it really doesn’t affect enough players to be worth risking a hotfix. (And updating just one content file isn’t trivial, so essentially we’d be pushing a bunch of other stuff that hasn’t had time to be tested.)

No, that was clearly the first dungeon I ran that day, after dailies(the chest daily quest is the benchmark I go by to tell if a new day has passed) were clearly reset.

The dungeon was done in 45 minutes, this is more or less accurate as I always set down a Peach Pie Tray for a 1 hour buff the moment the group enters the dungeon and there were 14 minutes left after picking up end credit.

Something is not right here.

I’d agree with that information, something isn’t right about you getting hit by the DR system if it was your very first run of the day from any dungeon path. We’ve seen reports of this happening to some players, and we’ll continue working on the system to find and resolve problems. Posting your issue about it helps us narrow the search fields down on what might actually be causing problems. I’ll PM you here in a bit asking for some more information that I can pass along to our programmers.

I agree with you guys, I think we either need to be able to easily check if we’re going to be screwed out of dungeon rewards, or the DR system just needs to be removed completely.

We are working on a way to better communicate that you are being influenced by the DR system, so it doesn’t come as a surprise when you get it.

So, pray tell, how does a player get 45 tokens from a single dungeon clear?

Diminishing rewards on the first time of the day running that particular dungeon path?

You are being impacted by the DR system for your path as a result of having completed several other paths too quickly, before going to that specific path. Because you were being influenced by other the DR system, the 60 tokens you earned were diminished to 45.
Can I assume you did a few other paths and got 60 tokens for those?

In the event an exploit happens that allows players to clear different dungeon paths quicker than expected, the DR system also kicks in.

Commanders can get their own chat channel (/squad) and are able to use it as an effective way to coordinate groups. No large party UI is used for this system. You can also mark the map with special beacons by holding down the ALT key while clicking anywhere on the map. This will bring a box up that allows for different beacons to be placed.

We’ve seen a lot of feedback regarding the commander system and what to add to it next, so keep the constructive feedback coming!

Ticket submitted 25th August, still awaiting solution: 120825-035702

Received 2 responses from the Support Team, first on 25/08/2012 04:19 PM and the second on 29/08/2012 03:13 AM . Total silence since then, ticket was auto-closed on 10th Sept., followed by an email asking me to confirm if I still needed help. I clicked the link in the email and did indeed confirm I still needed help.

Still being deafened by the silence from the Guild Wars Support Team. After 21 days I’ve pretty much run out of patience!

I posted the above on the 15th Sept., now it’s the 17th Sept and still zero response! Without a doubt this is the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced!

Third time posting in this thread! I get a very strong feeling that I’m just being ignored! It’s now 24 days since I submitted my ticket and 20 days since my ticket received a response from anyone at ArenaNet!

I did receive the following reply from GaileGray 8 days ago in another thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/11-Day-Ticket-Closed-No-response-Reason/first#post98893):

I’ve had my email client open since I read your post in another thread about the email being sent out and it actually arrived about 5 minutes ago in my Inbox! I’ve clicked the link and clicked on the “Yes I still need help” button. Ticket number is 120825-035702.

Great — we’ll get to that asap.

That was because my ticket was auto-closed and I subsequently received an email asking if I still needed help with my issue! Despite clicking the link in the email and confirming that I still need help, my ticket hasn’t received any further response from the Support Team!

Grizzly, I totally understand your frustration, and again, I apologize. I added this to my review list on Sunday, and I believe that two or three agents are helping me with that list today, so I do expect to hear tonight (or tomorrow at the latest). Very sorry for the delay in answering this and a few others extremely old tickets I see in the recent posts from players who have been extremely patient (for which we are extremely grateful!)

Anyway, that is why we have this thread, so please bear with us. (Get it, a little joke, with Grizzly and… ok, I’m outta here for now. runs)

Great, that’s my ticket, so the next question is, obviously, when will that distribution take place? This week, next week, next month? Please don’t give another “asap” reply either, at least give us somehing that narrows it down more than that!

Honestly? We’re still trying to figure that out. There are changes that may be made so that this doesn’t happen to people in the future. I believe there will be one distribution, but the question is whether to roll that out before the design change is in place, or wait and do the final distribution after the situation is fully resolved. I’m sorry I don’t know more, but it’s actively under discussion!

I’ve just found out that another batch of CE/DDE Item distributions took place on Friday 21st, yet I wasn’t included despite your post from last Tuesday (7 days ago) telling me that my ticket was “In queue, awaiting distribution”! Care to explain just what is going on here?

Dear heavens, I’m so sorry! I just sent an email and I believe this will be addressed today. Again, apologies for the delay!

Thank you! I finally received an email to notify me that the items were being re-distributed to my account! Logged in and found the in-game mail with the 3 items waiting for me. Collected the items and immediately placed all 3 items in my bank for safe keeping!

A tiny bit of faith in ArenaNet has been restored!

While I can agree with that sentiment in some ways, is it intended for the first run of any given explorable path on a day to yield anything other than 60 tokens? Because that was a bug many of my groups encountered with inconsistent rewards on completion.

What we’re seeing in a lot of these cases, is that players actually have beaten the path the day before, so they aren’t getting the first run bonus of the day, since it hasn’t rolled over yet to the next day (the rollover happens at 5pm pacific time).
For instance:

-It’s 10pm at night, you beat CoF Magg chain. You go to bed.
-Patch happens at Midnight.
-Wake up at 8am. Log in, get new patch.
-Run Magg’s chain, see diminished returns.

In that case, the new ‘day’ hasn’t rolled over yet because it’s not 5pm. So you get hit by the diminished returns.

Not saying this is the answer to ALL cases, but it has proven to be the answer of many of the cases. After 5pm today, when everything is rolled over, we’re hoping to see things settle out with the DR system.

My Opinion: the day should roll over at the same time we push patches. I’m going to talk to someone about this…

Hey folks, I’m sorry to hear about your problems. We haven’t seen this happen on a Mac, but we’ll do our best to help you figure it out.

First off, when you’re installing the game, are you letting it install to the Applications folder of your Mac’s system HD? (That’s where it is set to install by default.)

This issue has been known to occasionally occur on PCs, and it usually has to do with account permissions, so I’m wondering if you’re signed into the same administrator account when installing and running the application. Are you? (To be honest, this really shouldn’t matter, as we’ve tested to make sure the game works regardless of which user installs and which user plays the game.)

Also, have you recently tried to verify/repair disk permissions on your Mac? If not, you may want to try this. Here’s how:

  1. Quit all applications (including background applications).
  2. At the Finder, navigate to the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder (Command+Shift+U).
  3. Double-click Disk Utility.
  4. Click on Macintosh HD (or whatever you’ve named your system drive, on which Guild Wars 2 is installed).
  5. Click Repair Disk Permissions (this will take a few minutes).
  6. Close Disk Utility and run Guild Wars 2.

I can’t be sure that this will help your situation, but it’s worth a try. We’ll post here again if we come across any other possible fixes.

Hey, this forum design has been bothering me so much, I’m wondering if anyone feels the same way. As an artist, focusing on graphic design, I can’t help but wonder who designed this forum and why they choose to sacrifice standard features and functionality for this minimalistic approach. Why did they make it such a challenge to post and image in the body of your topic? It’s nearly impossible to have a cool signature because the signature form only allows 100 characters. I’ve spent some time trying to fit an image or signature into the forms to no avail. Maybe there’s a way, but I havn’t found it.

Forum designers, I know how you have your reasons for trying something different and being minimalistic, but you didn’t have to remove the most basic and essential features that most forums offer. The overall website design is great, but the forums should stick to the industry standard design, because it works. The forums were not ready when the game was released, and I think it was because they were still working on the design and layout. The outcome is overdesigned and lacking functionality. I have a feeling I’m not the only one who misses the standard forum layout that we all know and love.

Some of the “standard features” that you may have come to regard as “essential” for forums are intrusive and easily abused by players. We prefer to have our moderation team working on moderating discussion content. We would rather have our resources focused on keeping an eye on whether people are posting in a respectful tone, whether people are being constructive with their discussions/comments, etc. rather than on spending their time moderating forum signatures, images, or disruptive uses of text.

We have disabled image-based signatures on purpose. Only text is permitted for forum signatures.

We have removed most advanced font formatting features such as changing text colors or sizes on purpose, because those features are often abused in forums.

As for images, they can be attached to your post. I understand that this is not ideal for certain purposes/edge cases, however attaching images to a forum post will work for the vast majority of forum users.

The system is not intended to punish players who manage to beat a chain very quickly through their skill. But if that group then decided to start speed clearing that path, it’s supposed to diminish their returns.
It’s use is as more of an insurance policy against future exploits or bugs.

It is currently not our plan to outline how the DR system works, because doing as such provides those intending on exploiting the system with bits of information they could use to circumvent it.

Just run the game with the parameter “-log” (minus the quotes), observe the error occurring, then close the launcher. What this parameter does is create a file named Gw2.log in your “My Documents\Guild Wars 2” folder with details about what exactly went wrong. Either attach the file or paste its contents to a reply in this thread.

To be clear: I’m specifically gathering information about consistent encounters with “Download failed!” with only one or a few files remaining. Thanks!
