Why are so many people so soft? It was just a bunch of CC’s flying around. I did this on my glasscannon core-guard with only 2 deaths and 3 pieces broken. It felt harsh at first but as I see it now it was quite a challenge, I liked it.

“A bunch of CC flying around” is exactly why this fight is horrible. I didn’t find it difficult, just ANNOYING. CC is not a good spammable combat mechanic for bosses to have.

This is fine. GW2 is out for quite awhile now. It’s like anet saying " Time to grow up boysssss~". I’d rather have this fight than an easy one that i won’t even feel any sense of satisfaction beating. Like the old boss fights where you just stand there, dodge sometimes , whoops i got hit time to heal i guess kind of battles. This is way better. Keep it up anet.

Except after having just beat this boss, I don’t feel any sense of achievement at all. In fact, the feeling I get is anger and “Who the hell thought this was a good encounter”. There is a fine line between a good and hard encounter vs an annoying sponge fight. Caudecus is on the very extreme end of the annoying side. If they removed the chain CC and instead added an expanding AoE beacon you must kill, then the fight would a lot more fun and challenging than annoying and long.

I honestly have no interest in running this episode on my alts because that was incredibly annoying.

This is NOT A L2P issue. This is a POOR ENCOUNTER issue. Do you know what players hate the most in any game (for combat)? losing control of their character.

This is actually the first time I’ve enjoyed LS since its inception. Kudos ArenaNet! I hope to see more content like this in the future.

I’m excited that they are finally involving the major superpowers of the world unlike the main story where the battle was led by three (or two) random alliances with little to no armies.

Please consider linear story for Season 2...

in Living World

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

I may be the only one but the contents of Living World thus far has been random with explanation being inserted later on. Think personal story. Despite the many arcs, after the battle for Claw Island, you get a sense of what your ultimate goal was: to invade Orr and defeat Zhaitan. To me, this felt epic! (and I was later very dissapointed with the execution) We knew where we were going, we knew the challenges and dangers that lay ahead, and with a full army we were about to march into an untouched by life continent. This feeling parallels the feeling of marching into Mordor with the end in sight.

Why not have that quality of story opposed to a series of random events (that arguably may have some linearity) that happened because… well it happened. A massive long story split into chapters.

Example for what Season 2 looks like.

STORY: Invasion on Cantha
-Current Emperor of Cantha went full North Korea and heroes from Tyria must now invade Cantha before the emperor starts shooting magical nukes.

Part 1:
-Preparation for War.
-> Assist X in preparing the fleet for Cantha.
Part 2:
-Canthan Fleet
-> New Dungeon! Face the Emperor’s fleet on the borders of Cantha.
Part 3:
-Breaching Kaineng City
-> New Area: Kaineng City (southsun equal)
Part 4: (Finale)
-Emperor’s Downfall
-> Defeat the Emperor.
Part 5: (Transition to Season 3)
-Luxon and Kurzicks are at it again? Or Y dragon appeared.

As you can see, unlike season 1 that consist of southsun, molten alliance, toxic alliance (seriously, find better names for these factions), there was a clear focus and goal from the very start.

Thats my opinion. Feel free to agree or disagree or share your thoughts on the matter.

Star Wars: Vader

Arcturus.5846

Lets see if this is possible.

My summary of Living World…

Lion’s Arch, the city of the free has been besieged… BY CRABS. On the eastern front of Tyria, charr and dredge took on to the offensive leaving many to seek shelter. With the aid of the heroes, the molten alliance were pushed back… BUT CRABS attacked again, instigated by plant dude this time though because kitten those coporate kittens!

Holiday event. In the midst of the festivities, a noble council members met his tragic end. Oh then pirates.

Election seasons! The constituents of Tyria must make an important decisions: Cheaper waypoints or Abbadon. Did someone say dragons?

Queens day! The mighty heroes of Tyria who invaded Orr and brought an end to Zhaitan and his undead army must now face their greatest challenge yet! Take arms againt a Mary-Sue villain that is Scarlet, capable of accomplishing feats a mighty dragon cannot, whilst killing robots or something in a hole of Divinity’s Reach. But alas, the heroes confrontation was all for naught as Scarlet escaped. Weep not for she’ll get whats coming for her. All because of reasons….

Oh and we have some mad prince who is weak to candy.

Totally more epic than the flameseeker prophecies, the war between Luxon and Kurzicks along with cantha plague, the return of Abbadon, and the destroyer invasion of the north.

WvW Queues!

in WvW

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

Right now this is a big problem.
It’s not just the queue. When you do get in, the quality of team-play has gone through the floor.

Normally our pugs are reasonably tight disciplined, mostly on TS and nearly all aware of how to play the game. But right now, they are just running around hitting things, attacking the sentries, doors, wildlife, anything. When the enemy comes in sight they scatter and run. They clearly haven’t the faintest idea.

Out of a zerg of around 30, there were 5 of us on TS trying to direct the fight – total waste of time.
I can see the opposing servers are no better off, I’ve chased people through the middle of the enemy zerg and stomped them with enemy players just scattering out of my way – and I’m playing a mesmer.

It’s a mess.

Exactly this. It is literally ruining alot of servers PPT and score. They need to add priority que for dedicated WvWvWers like rank 50? and above for reset night.

What? WoW PvP never came close to the popularity that GW PvP reached. GW1 PvP was easily one if the first if not the pioneer in eSport gaming. (ignore FPS for a second).

At its peak in viewership, around 2009. WoW arenas used to get 80K+ concurrent viewers at MLG events. I don’t think GW1 was ever at MLG or came close to those type of numbers. Not because the game was bad or anything, but because WoW was way more popular.

What? WoW PvP never came close to the popularity that GW PvP reached. GW1 PvP was easily one if the first if not the pioneer in eSport gaming. (ignore FPS for a second).

Uhm….you should google starcraft…….

SC isn’t a MOBA.

When comparing, please stay in the same genre. It helps your argument make more sense.

What does MOBA have to do with anything? You said GW1 was “the first if not the pioneer” of eSports (save FPS). And the other guy said it was probably Starcraft. Which is true.

Why do you think I mentioned to exclude FPS? Because GW1 is not a FPS. Sue me for forgetting to mention RTS games on that list as well. GW1 was the pioneer for MOBAs in eSPorts.

Better? Now you can go back to losing the argument.

It is annoying how people will try to critique anything in a post just to feel like they are contributing once they’ve lost the argument.

Do you even know what Pioneer means? GW1 was far from being the pioneer of MOBA. In fact, the Starcraft mod Aeon of Strife, later popularized by Warcraft 3: Defense of the Ancients were the FIRST and only pioneers that exploded through e-sports. GW1 had nothing with being the first of e-sports MOBA or any other genre.

That said, im not saying GW1 PvP was bad. Just get your facts straight before you start chest-pumping the game you like or you’ll end up making a fool out of yourself.

Nope.

Consider MLG a trial run. If ArenaNet doesnt chnage GW2 SPvP then you can bet your buttons that it’ll get kicked out. As of now, its a “competitive” game without any dedicated proffesional gamers as GW2 does not have the popularity/money to make it a viable living. Dont be surprised to see GW2 section to be dead compared to SC2, LoL, CoD etc.

As others above have stated, ArenaNet is offering the prize and MLG simply “allowed” it in to see how successful it will be.

Arcturus.5846

Not sure about you guys but I find Scarlet to be a lackluster of a villain. I honestly couldn’t care less about her story. Why? Because to me shes just a random person ArenaNet pulled up just like Cannach.

My suggestion for Living World villains is instead of just throwing these characters out of the blue, develop them first IN THE GAME. Ellen Kiel for example was a decent “hero” as we knew her from Southsun and continued developing to elections. Do the same for your villains. Let us get to know them first and let them evolve for awhile before throwing them out. Look at Shiro Tagachi from GW1 as an example.

So thats my 2 cents. How do you guys feel about the recent major villains of Living World (Canach, Scarlet).

2) Damage is insignificant that players will just ignore it.

Getting sick of Lions Arch.

in Living World

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

Am I the only person getting seriously sick of Lions Arch being the focus of living story? So far the story development goes like this…

Southsun Cove (Crab attacks Lions Arch) ->
Flame and Frost (Regufees goes to Lions Arch) ->
Southsun Cove p2 (Lion Guard focus) ->
Dragon Bash (Main event in Lions Arch) ->
Sky Pirates ( What do you know! Story starts off with something that happened in Lions Arch)

To me, it seems as if Lions Arch and whoever rules it are the ONLY active and significant government (if it is one). Whats going on in Kryta for example? You’re telling me Jennah is just sitting on her throne doing absolutely nothing along with her entire army? What about Ebonhawke? You would expect something to eventually come out of that gate to crystal desert.

Maybe its to prepare us for Bubbles with next batch of story arc focusing on another location but its a shame to see cities that are far more impressive than Lions Arch left to rot.

2. Commanders actually do work together. Hop on your local vent/TS or whatever. Unless you’re in one of those horrible servers, you will find cooperation betweent teams. (note guild commanders often stays un-pinned to avoid confusion for pugs and pug commander)

3. Common sense> RL strategy in WvWvW. In reality, you get limited supply and men. In virtual life, you never run out of them thus why zerging is the meta build. Imagine invading Rome with respawing armies. As a zerg, you can steamroll anything even when outnumbered by suicide rushes.

Why there should be a dps meter

Thanks for proving why there shouldn’t be any meters in the game.

Because the way that it’s currently designed there isn’t a reason to go into support or tanking? I’m sorry if you feel otherwise, but it’s true. There isn’t a point. All the encounters have no mechanics where being a tank or a support actually help. It’s not my fault.

If that were true, Guardians wouldn’t be the most wanted class. Their DPS is mediocre at best compared to other classes.

Will Southsun end in a Group Dungeon?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

All I can say is that I am glad that the non-dungeon people seem to be a distinct minority. If you want a game that you play by yourself, then by definition an MMO is not for you. Play a single-player game like the Witcher or something. I hope they have a dungeon in this storyline and all of the others….the more the merrier.

First of all, im a social player. I try to party up with people as much as I can. I do however FRAKING HATE DUNGEONS WITH A PASSION. If ArenaNet did a better job with dungeon design at release I might have enjoyed it but that is not the case in this universe. So before you BS about anti-dungeon people about only liking solo content, I suggest you consider ALL the options towards why people dislike dungeons.

Arcturus.5846

Numbers win WvWvW. Nothing I have seen during SoR’s rise from 17th to 1st place in North America has shown me otherwise. Bring far more people to a fight and more often than not, you will win. Bring far less, and you might win, but more often than not…no.

Right now, both Blackgate and Jade Quarry are losing because they’re slacking off. Your servers are both freaking full. Sanctum of Rall is not, not now and not even during our vaunted North-American prime time.

Please don’t insult the intelligence of the forum goers by pretending that you’re “undermanned” and the only way you can now right the ship is by sucking up even more guilds into your bloated ranks. Mobilize your PUGs and motivate what you have rather than…what am I saying.

They’re just gonna recruit more people… =\

SoR didn’t have much luck motivating their casual players when they were stuck at the bottom of T1 for so long, what makes you JQ/BG are any different? The casual players look at the score and if their server isn’t first they won’t play. No amount of effort from the community’s part will change that. Get off your high horse.

This. Plus JQ has a larger PvE players than WvWvW even since the war againts HoD (pre-bandwagon for those who remember).

Villains (spoiler)

in Lore

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

Heres my view on dragons being primary villain. Though yes dragons are large, cool, and drives fear to hearts of mortals, they are in sense “too powerful” to become an intereseting enemy. One of the things I loved about any story villain is the journey from discovering the villain is indeed a villain to ways to defeat him/her. Problem with dragons and any other godly being is everything becomes cliche and obvious. Looking at GW2: Dragons, Mass Effect: Reapers, WoW: Deathwing, they all used the same superweapon idea to defeat the villain. ArenaNet could have strayed from that idea by focusing on the starving Zhaitan and weeakening Zhaitan quest.

One that bothers me most however is the lack of backstory and uniqueness. Look at every beloved villain. Lich King/Arthas, Joker, Illidan, Vader, Khan, etc. Their backstory were plentiful. In the case of the Lich King (a character beloved from Warcraft 3), the downfall of Arthas from beloved prince to souless murdering maniac gave the character so much story that equalizes hate and pity to the villain. All we know of Zhaitan was he was a dragon who awokened hell bent on destroying the world.

Why Conquest is boring to watch/play

in PvP

Posted by: Arcturus.5846

Arcturus.5846

Lets look at other games.

StarCraft:
Winning condition: Destroy all enemy structures.
Dota/LoL:
Winning condition: Destroy main enemy structure
GW1 GvG:
Winning condition. Kill enemy Guild Lord
WoW Arena:
Winning condition. Kill all enemy players.

GW2:
Winning condition. First to accumulate 500 points win.

Notice the difference between them and GW2? None of them focused on points capture on nodes for points. They do however still have specific locations that contributes to victory. Most importantly, it provides very unique ways in which teams can make a comeback as theres no set victory condition that involves a time-race in which players can attempt to imitate. This is one of the reason why WoW Arena made it in before WoW BG (Arathi Basin: Conquest type for those who never played) and why the BG Alterac Valey was most beloved by community (a GvG almost type of map).

Only way Conquest is acceptable is through shooter. Why? Its much more fast paced (often you die from 1-2 hits). Even then, TF2 and CoD are actually very boring to watch as it is just people shooting at eachother for 10 minutes.

Just visualize how stupid GW2 would sound in MLG.

Shoutcaster: TEAM A IS ABOUT TO CAPTURE NORTHERN NODE. AHHHHH!

Shoutcaster: OHHHH TEAM B IS ABOUT TO STEAL THE WESTERN NODE. OH LOOK AT THAT THIEF BURST DAMAGE.

Shoutcaster: OHHHH TEAM A IS 100 POINTS FROM WINNING.

Will Southsun end in a Group Dungeon?

in Last Stand at Southsun

I think the problem is shift in requirements between audience. MMO doesnt mean you need to do dungeons. It just means there will be other players playing with you be it direct like grouping up or socializing. I know alot of people who plays MMO for one specific content (like PvP) and refuses to PvE. In my case, I refuse to to Dungeons but enjoy the story content of it. Why do I have dungeons? blame it on dull mechanics with little rewads. I still enjoy grouping up and in fact prefer it but I am not interested in dunegons period.

So what happens if you force people to do dungeons for story? Well you get GW1. The last few missions are ALWAYS empty with maybe 1-2 people. Only way you would even have any chance to finish it would be with heroes and hecnhies.

I don't like dungeons that force you to party

I love grouping up. I rather play with someone than alone. I do however HATE DUNGEONS WITH A PASSION. Since completion Arah, I lost all desires to enter another dungeon. The dull 2 minutes of auto-attacking just to kill one trash with no interesting mechanics is something I WILL NOT repeat ever again. Sure it may have gotten betetr but again, im not interested in them anymore.

Dungeons should always be optional for gear and never story.
