How are you acquiring giant eyes?
A few hours ago: the Pact Airship Wreckage Hero Challenge does not get changed on the map although when you try to commune again it says can’t get anything more from this place of power, or some such. On the map it did say that the character had the Coztic Itzel Belongings Hero Point but that particular character has not even traveled to that part of the map yet. It did increment the number of HP I had for that character on the map and gave him the 10 HP, but it was marked incorrectly on the map.
I don’t know about that one but the PactAirship Wreckage Hero Challenge does not get changed on the map although when you try to commune again it says can’t get anything more from this place of power, or some such. Thank you that’s what I needed.
I have several characters that have gotten their elite mastery but they can not use the new weapons they were given. Is there something else they need to do?
Each of them got the 100% completion of the Wvw maps back when that was a requirement for map completion. The only difference is in Dry Top and Silver Wastes. The mesmer has 6 more hero challenges done there than the other 2 but she has 10 more points. I was just trying to figure where the extra 4 came from so I could maybe repeat it.
Edit: I just realized there was a time when the Wvw maps changed. I don’t remember if that meant different skill challenges or not but if so she may have gotten the new ones on one one or more of the maps.

I thought so too but the reason I ask is 3 of my characters should have the same amount of hero points. They are all level 80 and all have 100% map completion. Yet my mesmer ( my main) had 10 more points to put into her elite specialization than the other 2. She does have 1 HP from Dry Top and 5 from Silver Wastes that the other 2 don’t have. She should have 6 more points than the other 2. So I’m wondering where she got the other 4 points?
The wiki lists 2 sources of hero points – leveling and hero challenges on maps. What are the other sources of hero points?
Any character at a lower level than 80 will not accumulate experience toward masteries but it will go toward leveling up. Any level 80 character will accumulate xp toward whatever mastery you have chosen. If they are running around in a HoM map then the xp will go to the HoM mastery you have chosen. If they are not in a HoM map the xp will go toward the Tyria mastery you have chosen.
Thanks. /
I just changed the dyes of my armor because the hand glow did not really go with red. I made a rainbow revenant. With blue gauntlets the blue, green or purple glow works OK. Probably won’t use the yellow much.
Some really fantastic looking revenants in this thread. Here is what mine looks like so far.
I’m not quite sure how working on masteries works with alts. If 2 or more characters are working on the same mastery do their xp combine to complete the mastery?
I have almost completed the second level of gliding with my mesmer. I took my new revenant into HoT and he can glide because my mesmer has mastered the first level. If I set him to working on the second level of the gliding mastery will his xp combine with hers (I really want to be able to use the updrafts) or is it better to have him work on the mushroom jumping? If his xp will not combine with hers then I will just put off playing him until she completes the second level gliding.

I didn’t know this. Where can I find the recipes using these?
No the latency affects that sort of dodge a lot worse, even with lowish ping of 80-150 I’ve seen it happen. I’ve never had that happen with gw2’s dodge.
Maybe I’m wrong on this point but how does the current dodge favor melee? It works the same for both.
It may be because some players think of their “dodge key” as their only dodge. I use double-tap dodge and often dodge forward right into the fight.
Oops, just realized my way does favor melee. I usually dodge forward or one side or the other. Using the dodge key and dodging backward would put more distance and favor ranged.

I’ve gotten at least 3 recently, maybe more, (after I bought a batch of 25 and had a surplus of a couple). I have been working toward map completion on my characters and got some there but I know the last one was from a drop.
I agree that it would be best for you both to have the same style of play – both ranged or both melee. Otherwise, if your brother (the ranger) goes longbow or shortbow, they are bound to kill the enemy with auto-attack before you could even get in close enough with your melee to inflict a single hit for credit.
As an alternative to both running LB or SB rangers, as your brother is going ranger, perhaps you can go Mesmer with a greatsword for a ranged weapon. Having clones could help your brother’s pet with the aggro from any enemies you may encounter that are too tough for the pair of you.
If you both decide you want to go melee, Mesmer with dual swords is fun if your ranger brother goes with axe/sword or greatsword.
I second this. Ranger was my first toon but mesmer is my favorite. I feel very comfortable with ranger using a longbow but I do love using my greatsword for melee. But for me mesmer is the most fun – greatsword for range and sword/? for melee (Edit: but make sure to learn how and when to shatter).

I’ve got characters for all professions, except revenant, although I’ve got 3 mesmers and 1 of each of the others. They are all at 80. From that you can gather I like mesmers. For me they’re fun but different professions click for different people. You really won’t know until you try them.
I thought I’d never like melee but actually like it on all my characters but especially on my mesmers, ranger, warrior and guardian. I love using my lightening hammer on my elementalist and bombs on my engineer. But I never would have known any of that if I hadn’t tried them.

Why do players always want to make GW2 like all the other games they have played?
…
Because they know that other game, feel comfortable with how it plays, like its features. It’s the same reason I want the trait system to revert to the original GW2 trait system (except for one detail) or the NPE to go away and the mobs in the lower areas to be tougher like they used to be. It’s just hard for people, me included, to accept things the way they are, the bad with the good, and just enjoy playing the game as it is. It’s the same reason we sabotage almost every experience we have by comparing it to some imaged best we’ve ever had, whether it’s some meal, sex, or whatever instead of just enjoying what’s happening at the moment.
Sorry about the rant. I’m stepping off my soapbox now. But I just realized I needed to hear that.
…
I don’t think that anybody don’t want them, …
I don’t want them. They are graphic clutter. One of the things I found frustrating about WoW was not being able to see the quest giver to click on them because of the fat kitten of someone’s mount.

balance pvp
…
They keep trying to balance pvp, at the expense of other aspects of the game. One profession gets nerfed then another. It’s never going to be balanced.
Maybe they should introduce a one-on-one between the same profession and make that the only one-on-one. Only thief on thief, warrior on warrior, mesmer on mesmer. Groups would still need several professions to balance but they can stop the nerfing to get each profession balanced against each of the others. It only screws up the rest of the game.
I miss the marionette fights.

Just as OP has the right to express dissatisfaction with the game as it currently is, other players has the right to agree or disagree without being called flamers.
Exactly.
Although I do not agree with a single suggestion given by the the OP, I do not think this game is 100% perfect. But then my perspective is different. GW2 was the first MMO I played. I tried WoW afterward (briefly) and I can not understand how anyone would prefer to be forced into a “trinity” role.
And please do not nerf mesmers any more. Learn to play a mesmer in order to understand how you can exploit their weaknesses, just as with any profession. Because it (the game and the memsmer profession) is different to what someone is used to and they haven’t bothered to learn about it doesn’t mean it should be changed to accommodate their limitations.
I would suggest guardian. They do well solo and are always welcome in dungeon and WvW groups.
Order of preference
1. mesmer
2. ranger and elementalist
3. guardian and engineer
4. warrior
5. necromancer and thief
From your requirements it sounds like warrior. All professions in GW2 can melee. Try melee with your ranger for some variety.
3 Humans (2 female, 1 male)
2 Norn (1 each gender)
2 Sylvari (1 each)
2 Asura (1 each)
1 Charr (female)
One way to get a Bipedal charr is to make them an engineer and always use kits. you can’t holster a kit so they always have their hands full.
And if you trait streamlined kits you’ve virtually got permanent swiftness.
EDIT: Also I like the look of the new outfit we got.
(edited by Lazuli.2098)
I changed the dye on my guardian’s armor. Although it is dark blue, in game it sometimes looks black.
Need some fashion advice. Which one of these gives more of a creepy/“I’m going to kill you in your sleep” vibe?
I think the first one although they both work.
I have 1 of every profession and although I prefer ranged in other games warrior is not my least favorite to play. I was surprised that I like it and actually have fun with melee on all the professions in GW2.
On my main mesmer I was changing the dyes on an outfit a friend gave me and taking some pictures when she got caught in an event.
Also learning when to place fields when in a group. Which ones are more important and should be done first. If a field is placed but another type of field is placed pretty much on top of it, the first goes away, right? So in general would it be best to let the elementalist lay down all their fields and finishers to build up might before anyone else places a field for something else? Seems like learning when to place fields when in a group will eventually come with experience but what is the etiquette for fields when in a zerg?
Doing the dynamic event is usually the fastest way to complete the heart quest in the area.
The scouts only show up on your map when you are missing part of that area, either a heart, way point, POI, skill point or vista. Once you have completed all of those for that area of the map that scout will disappear from your map. Looking for a scout on the map is a good way to find the lasting thing you are missing for that map’s completion.
Ranger for me is by far the easiest profession in the game. But it seems to have players develop some bad habits in both PvE and PvP in terms of gameplay.
What bad habits?
It prevents some players to get better at higher level gameplay.
How?
These are both very vague statements. Details please.
I have 2 human females. Although my mesmer is my “main” I think my elementalist is better looking.
There is a portal in a cave located in the west side of the map, near a poi called Transfer Gate (below the Thaumanova Reactor). Copy/paste this code in the say chat [&BD4AAAA=]

My main mesmer has a new look:
Radiant Warhelm
Student Mantle
Seer Coat
Conjurer Gloves
Student Leggings
Masquerade Boots
Play a ranger if that looks appealing to you. In the beginning you will not be playing dungeons anyway. And no need to avoid a longbow just because of skill #4. Just don’t get into the habit of using it. When mobs close in on you switch to a great sword or a sword, don’t knock them back with #4 on LB.
One of the most exasperated I got when in melee with a sword on my mesmer was when a warrior used knock back on a rifle. I couldn’t help thinking “if you’re that afraid of melee don’t play a warrior”.
The plural of focus is foci, close enough
oops.
And even if you have 2 foci equipped the CD will remain after you swap, so it is better to just have 1 since it will be half the price and even if you have an “on swap” sigil in the weapon, it will trigger.
Thanks.
I hadn’t thought about using the same OH weapon before on my mesmer, so here is a question. If I use two different fuci (is that the plural for focus?) and I swap after creating a phantasmal warden and that skill is still in cooldown on the first focus will the phantasmal warden be in cooldown on my second focus as well?

Always jump outside to inside, never directly from beam to beam.
It helps to jump on a diagonal instead of perpendicular to a beam, pipe or branch. The jump does not need to be so precise because there is more area along the line of the jump. It’s harder to over jump.
Why delete him? Are all your character slots filled? If not just make a new additional ranger.
Although mesmer is not for everyone, I like using GS for range.
